Did the Brewers do enough?

Hi, I'm Mike Clemens with our Wisconsin Sports Week in review.

Baseball?

The deadline for trading players was this past week, Monday at 5 p.m.

Most baseball analysts expected the Brewers to make a run after veteran pitcher Tarek Scubble of the Detroit Tigers.

But in the end, Scubble went to the defending champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team that outspends Milwaukee, 3-1 in payroll.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy addressed the media after the trade deal was done.

Yeah, the initial reaction that it was kind of like us against the Dodgers for scuba.

I don't believe that for one minute.

I know we went after trying to get that player.

I don't know exactly the details of it all, but I know this.

It isn't as simple as that's a better package.

It's not as simple as that.

There's a lot more, a lot more layers to it.

And to say that the Brewers didn't try is simply incorrect.

The Brewers' president of baseball operations and general manager, Matt Arnold, met with us up in the press box on Monday night.

We were in on a lot of things.

I think we did what we can to help the team.

And when you're in on a lot of stuff, there's certainly some things where you come up short and you just got to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and try to do what you can to get the next thing.

And ultimately, I think we were able to accomplish a lot over the last 48 hours to get some stuff done to really help the team.

And they did.

They traded two prospects to St.

Louis to acquire right-handed starting pitch.

veteran Dustin May was asked how did he react when he found out he was being traded from the Cardinals to the first place Brewers.

I was stoked.

I mean being able to come to a team that's leading the division by a lot.

Very good ball club and got a really good chance to go to the playoffs and make a run.

I'm very, very thrilled to be a part of it.

And the Brewers also picked up a pair of relief pitchers, including Jojo Romero, still recovering from an emergency appendectomy in late July.

He should be back in the bullpen later this month.

Now one of the pitchers

that the Tigers wanted for Terrick Scoobel from the Brewers was Logan Henderson, but man Arnold said no.

Henderson has now won six games in a row and pitched a complete six innings in a win over the Pirates.

Yeah, I mean I've said this last last few interviews that I want to get as deep into the game as possible and it was really good to finish six today so.

Yeah, I mean being efficient is the name of the game and like you have to be if you're going to get that deep into the game and you know, I don't I don't want to just stop at six.

I want to keep

going.

So beating Pittsburgh, three out of four games this week, the Brewers headed into this weekend at home against the Twins with 72 wins, the most in the major leagues and the best performance so far in Brewers franchise history.

On Friday night, they lost to the Minnesota Twins 8-6, that series continuing this weekend.

On Monday, the Brewers head back with a three game set in San Diego against the Padres, then up to L.A.

to face the Dodgers in a long four game series.

Meanwhile in Madison, college football is underway as the Wisconsin Badgers get ready for their first game of the season against Notre Dame to be held at Lambeau Field.

On Sunday night, September 6th, the Badgers have had horrible luck at quarterback under head coach Luke Thickel.

Each of their starters has gone down with a season-ending injury.

Colton Joseph is their new quarterback who explained why he decided Wisconsin was a better fit for him than an old Dominion.

Really, I just, from everything I was looking at, just really the coaches were the main thing that I really loved.

Coach Guyton had a big influence on that.

Coach Grimes, Coach Fickle.

But really, I just saw it as the biggest opportunity for me to come out and show what I can do and try to make a name for myself.

And since I've been here, make a name for the Badgers.

The

Badgers finished a disappointing four and eight last year, but offensive lineman Kevin Haywood says that the mindset has changed in Madison.

We're going to bring it every day.

You think in the past that's not been the same.

I think we're nasty as this year.

And that's about it.

We're just going to punch people in the mouth, hit people in the face.

That's what it's going to

be.

In Green Bay, training camp practices continue this week, the team putting on the pads at the start of this past week, and getting physical, quarterback Jordan Love was on the NFL Network with Stacey Dale, live from the Ray Nitschke practice field.

So much talent.
