Most of us have gotten the message by now about unsafe ice conditions with the spring
thaw, but not so much for our four-legged friends.
Ashwaban on public safety and appear fire and rescue helped save a dog that had fallen
through the ice Friday afternoon.
Authorities say the dog chased a squirrel out onto the ice when it broke through and wasn't
able to get back out of the icy water.
Another dog was rescued on the same day from the ice on the Bay of Green Bay in Swamico.
Some dogs that will be celebrating at the National Railroad Museum aren't in need of rescue.
In fact, these dogs take on the opposite role in keeping their humans safe, and you can
meet these incredible canines at the upcoming Literacy and Leader Dogs for the Blind event
coming up on National Pet Day, April 11th.
El Trusa International of Green Bay is celebrating their 92nd year serving our community by focusing
on literacy and the good work being done by volunteers who raise leader dogs for the
blind.
Visitors will have a chance to meet the POPs learning how to be service dogs, take in
a leader dog story time, pick up a dog safety coloring book, and learn more about how you
can make a difference in your community.
The interactive event runs from 10 to 2 on Saturday, April 11th.
Some kids at Green Bay's King Elementary are learning about literacy too, with a new
way to access books at their school.
King Elementary is unveiling its new book Vending Machine this afternoon.
The machine was purchased with grant funding from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation,
along with support from the Parent Teacher Organization.
Educators say the machine will be used as a way to reward students in a variety of ways,
including academic achievement and to recognize positive behavior.
33 people were injured in Green Bay yesterday when a tour bus crashed near I-43 in Webster
Avenue.
Green Bay police say the bus was heading to a casino in Michigan from Chicago.
54 people were reported to be on the bus when it exited I-43 Northbound onto Webster
Avenue.
Authorities say the bus went through an intersection down and in bankmen and ended
up between some warehouses.
33 people were taken to a local hospital, most with minor injuries, though police say
two people were possibly in critical condition.

Warmer temps over the weekend got rid of a lot of snow, but we're still feeling the effects
of last week's blizzard.
The City of Green Bay has rescheduled the March bulk item collection to next week, March
30th through April 3rd.
The workers say people should put bulk items on the curb by 6am on their scheduled collection
day.
As a reminder, the limit is two cubic yards of things like mattresses, old furniture, or
grills.
Go to the City of Green Bay's website if you have questions about what you can put on
the curb.
New moms on Medicaid in Wisconsin will soon have coverage for a full year after giving
birth instead of just two months.
Governor Tony Evers recently signed a bill in Milwaukee, then traveled to Oshkosh in
Wassau to promote it.
The change takes effect July 1st and will help low-income families keep their health coverage
longer after childbirth.
Evers says the law will lead to better health outcomes for moms and babies.

Wisconsin is back on top in Women's College Hockey.
They beat top-seated Ohio State 3-2 yesterday to win another national title.
It's Wisconsin's 9th Championship, the most in NCAA history.
A man is facing multiple firearm drug and other related charges after being arrested
on property owned by Girl Scouts in West Bend.
A spokesperson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office says that Paul David ran a drug
operation in a home on Camp Silver like with his wife and two kids.
Girl Scouts CEO Anna Simpson says an employee is now on leave for their alleged involvement
and they're denying any knowledge of prior connections.
David is out after posting a $75,000 bail and his next appearance in court is due in May.
The idea of government run grocery stores is getting talked about by a candidate who's
running for governor.
A new proposal would let Wisconsin open government run grocery stores.
That idea comes from members of the legislative socialist caucus, including Francesca Hong,
who says too many communities don't have access to affordable food.
Their plan would be to spend about $100 million to launch and support a public option,
which would focus on neighborhoods that need them the most.
Some grocery stores that have closed recently say theft is one of the reasons that they
have to seize operations.
The bill doesn't have a path forward this session since lawmakers have already adjourned.
And a resolution is aiming to remove funding towards the flock automatic license plate
reader for the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
Its sights concerned raised by people who live in the area, state policy makers, and
privacy experts about data sharing and use beyond the system's original purpose.
The resolution was introduced at a Dane County Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday
of last week.
If adopted, it would remove the funding and prohibit further money from being used on
that system.

The Badgers women win again.
Hi, I'm Mike Clemens with sports, women's college hockey, the Wisconsin Badgers, win the
national title by beating Ohio State in the finals of the Frozen 4, 3 to 2, the Badgers
Claire and Wright with the winning goal in the third period, the game played on the Penn
State campus.
And here comes Ed Wright to the net, Washington, I'm just so proud of everyone who came
together as a team and we just believed in each other.
The Badgers winning the national championship for a second year in a row.
NBA bucks on the road tonight on the West Coast.
They faced the Los Angeles Clippers.
The bucks coming off a win Saturday night in Phoenix, they beat the Sun's 108-105 baseball.
We're as got clobbered by the Cubs, 12 to nothing to finish out their cactus league
schedule.
They'll open a two game exhibition series tonight in Milwaukee against the Reds before the season
opener this Thursday with sports on Mike Clemens.
