It's a distinction years in the making and an honor city leaders say had some stiff competition,
but Green Bay now has its first poet laureate. First, what? You may be asking? A poet laureate is a
person charged with elevating the community's appreciation of poetry through publication,
performance, education, and workshops. Miriam Brabham is Green Bay's inaugural
poet laureate. She'll serve a two-year term marking a major milestone in Green Bay's
commitment to arts, culture, and community engagement. In a statement sent by the city,
Brabham says she believes that, quote, now more than ever, we need to be connected.
She goes on to say that poetry can be a bridge across age, gender, religion, ethnicity,
and identity itself. Another effort to elevate Green Bay has gotten yet another extension.
The long awaited public market originally announced four years ago has already been extended three
times. This week, the city council approved extending the deadline for completion to the end of
2027. Toweded as an epicenter of a vibrant downtown and top tourist destination,
Green Bay's public market has run into roadblocks with both funding and delays of materials.
The market broke ground back in the fall of 2024, with hopes of having it open in time for
last year's NFL draft. The project is still more than $5 million short if funds needed to bring
it to fruition. Developers now have, until May 1st, to prove they have the financing for the
public market, the goal is to resume construction this summer with a completion date again set for
the end of 2027. A non-profit in Appleton is reaching out to help those who don't have a place
to go warm up in these dangerously cold temps. Jenny Moore with Pillars Inc says when the temperature
hits 10 degrees or below, Pillars goes into their cold weather response plan to try to save as many
lives as possible. We're extending our shelter, so we're providing extra shelter for individuals,
we're extending the number of buzz that we have available to try to keep people inside and safe,
knowing that when the temperature dips to that level, it's dangerous. Pillars operates two
shelters and adult facility in a family shelter. Moore says both shelters use a waiting list and are
always at capacity. The organization also has a day resource center where people can come in from
the cold, use the computers, charge their phones, even just sit and enjoy some fellowship over a
puzzle. Case managers are available to help connect people with resources. If you're someone

help you look forward to our steamy summer days in Green Bay, a popular downtown art fairs on
the move this summer. Organizers of Art Fest recently announced they'll be moving the two-day
festival from July to August. They'll still be in the same downtown location, but on the weekend
of August 22nd and 23rd. Organizers say with so many events filling up the calendar in late July,
they're hoping the new date has fewer conflicts for people wanting to attend the unique
celebration of art in downtown Green Bay. With news at the top and bottom of the hour,

trying to make it five wins in a row. When they face Penn State on the road tonight,
the Badgers women's team with a huge upset beating number 24th ranked Nebraska. 63 to 60 in Madison
last night. NBA, the bucks losing to the thunder. 122 to 102 miles Turner, Kevin Porter,
Jr. Out with injuries. How can the bucks get to 500 docked rivers? You know, listen, it's been
that way all year for us. When I crying about it, we got to keep trying to win games.
Baseball fans reactor Freddie Peralta being traded to the Metz, who was manager Pat Murphy,
telling an audience in Green Bay, trading Peralta would be one of his saddest days.
Peralta, after their crew had set a new franchise record of 97 wins for the season.
I think probably that's the best team that we had on. Nobody were spending this.
And all name is going to be somewhere after this season.
