From the 97.9 WGBW Newsroom, I'm Sholly Pittman, filling in for Lisa Hale with this local news update.
The city of Green Bay will close portions of Cherry Street starting next Monday, and the closure will last for about three weeks.
It's for a big plan called the Downtown Interceptors Renewal Project, which aims to replace pipes that date back to the 1930s deep underground.
In total, the project will rehabilitate about 13,000 feet of sewer, and it'll cost around $29 million to do it. The project is expected to wrap up in late 2026.
More and more sheriffs' offices across Wisconsin are making deals with ICE. Under some of these programs, local law enforcement can essentially operate as immigration authorities.
Savannah Tome Olsen has more. The ACLU says three years ago eight Wisconsin counties were signed on to this program.
Well, seven more have joined just since President Donald Trump took office. Now, 13 counties across Wisconsin have formaled 287G agreements with ICE.
Last week, we reported that at least three sheriff's departments across the state have signed agreements with ICE to house people before deportation.
Before that, the only ICE detention facility in Wisconsin was dodged detention in Juneau.
The ACLU report shows the ICE has requested more than 3,000 detainers in Wisconsin over the last four years.
When honored, those detainers allow someone to be transferred directly to ICE from local sheriff's departments without a warrant signed by a judge.
It's optional, but most Wisconsin sheriffs choose to honor them. Almost all of the 13 sheriffs are in northeastern or central Wisconsin.
The Brown County Sheriff has had an agreement since 2020, but Kiwani County signed its agreement in June.
The Voting Rights Act is 60 years old today, and the Wisconsin League of Women Voters is marking the anniversary with an education event at the state Capitol.
Terry Barr has more.
The League is highlighting why the Voting Rights Act is a promise and needs to be protected, especially right now.
The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to hear cases which could change parts of the Voting Rights Act, including fair maps.

Our mission is to defend a vaccine and power voters to elect your representatives.
Those elected representatives are supposed to carry your voice to the Madison Capitol, to DC, to your municipal leader boards.
And when they fail to, that's the crisis that is the breach of our Constitution.
The Voting Rights Act is a federal statute which prohibits racial discrimination.
It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on August 6, 1965.
There are some big changes for high school sports this season.
Sports Director Jimmy Cusca has more.
High school sports are back and there are plenty of changes for the upcoming school year in Wisconsin.
A new policy allows for name, image, and likeness deals, meaning that high school student athletes can receive compensation for NIL.
However, the new policy is extremely restrictive on who can pay a student and what products, services, or materials a student can endorse.
Another new rule this year will require any spectator remove from an event to take an online sportsmanship course before being allowed back.
And after serving a one game suspension.
Ball sports will begin competition this month and run through state championship events in October and November.
For more than 50 years, it's been a Sentinel along the shore.
The USS Cobia is a living reminder of Manitouac's submarine legacy.
Here between 1941 and 1945, 28 submarines were born in the heart of the war effort.
While the Cobia itself was built in Connecticut, it shares its design with those crafted in Manitouac.
It's been a national historic landmark since 1986.
The USS Cobia is a living monument, opened at tours and even to sleepovers.
But every day wear and tear has taken its toll.
A torpedo tube is missing its door.
Zebra and Quaga muscles, invasive species, have built up on the bottom.
The whole vessel needs a fresh coat of paint.
So next month, the USS Cobia will head to Sturgeon Bay, where it'll get its first restoration in nearly three decades.
Alexandria Bowley grew up with the sub on the shoreline.
She's now a spokesperson for the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, the sub's permanent home.
She says this restoration is like regular car maintenance.
So the boat will be on stealth and they will be able to get completely underneath.
So that way they're able to get, for example, all of the muscles off of the bottom.
About a third of the cost of the dry dock is covered by Wisconsin taxpayers.
The new state budget signed into law last month allocates half a million dollars for it.
Bowley says the news came just in time for the 4th of July sub-vest.
Thankfully, the Cobia kind of speaks for itself in terms of importance.
It's a World War II submarine, so just that alone and just showing the ingenuity of this area,
because Manitouac beforehand was not making submarines.
When they started making the submarines at the start of the war, they were asked to do it because of the location.
So just such an extraordinary circumstances that happened here in Wisconsin that thankfully for us,
it's not a hard pitch to get people to understand why the Cobia is so important to preserve.
The USS Cobia will leave home next month.
A departure date's been set for September 4th.
It'll take 11 hours to tug it to Sturgeon Bay, and there it'll be put on stilts and dry docked by professionals
at Fin Cantieri Bay shipbuilding.
The restoration could take up to six weeks, in that time, Manitouac will be missing a part of its history along the coast.

Sci-fi fans, in particular, those who are fans of the show Invasion, will be happy to know that Apple TV just dropped a trailer for season three.
The show follows five people who deal with an alien invasion from around the world.
According to Deadline, season three drops Friday, August 22nd, on Apple TV, with new episodes dropping Friday nights through October 24th.
So that's just alone.

In the neighborhood of 30 to 50 million according to Warner Brothers and Michael Mann.
Mann has a finished script for Heat 2, his follow-up to his 1995 film Heat,
attached so far are actors Austin Butler and Adam Driver.
Mann's ideal budget is 200 million, which Warner Brothers blocked at.
Mann did a revised budget for 170 million, and Warner's told him they would like it to be even less expensive.
Mann's solution, according to Hollywood Insider, is to sign Leonardo de Caprio in hopes that it will get Warner's to sign off on a higher budget.
The original film was a hit and starred Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, and Ashley Judd.
The sequel will focus on tracking down Val Kilmer's character who escaped in the first heat.
The film is not quite a lot to get made, and is currently in the very early stages of pre-production.
Actor Jonathan Joss was fatally shot outside his home after a fight with a neighbor in early June.
Joss had played John Redcorn on King of the Hill since 1996, after the original voice actor who played Redcorn passed away.
Redcorn was honored during the season 14 finale of the show Monday Night.
Ziegfredo Alvarez was charged with first-degree murder after the shooting, but was later released on a $200,000 bond.
San Antonio Police initially said the murder of Joss, who was gay, had nothing to do with his sexuality,
but have since walked that back, saying that they spoke too soon, and the investigation is ongoing.
San Antonio Police Chief William McMahon has recently expressed sympathy to the San Antonio LGBTQ plus community over the loss of Joss,
and says the department is committed to pursuing every lead in the tragic case.
