For 97.9 WGBW News, I'm Lisa Hale. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced Thursday that he will not seek a third term.

Wisconsin, I'm announcing that I will not be running for a third term.

Already candidates are throwing their hats into the ring. Savannah Tomay Olsen reports.

The question was who would enter the Democratic primary is lieutenant governor Sarah Rodriguez posted this video this morning.

I've been an ER nurse, public health expert and a small business owner and used to being on my feet and getting right to the point. So let's go.

First, I have an announcement. I'm running for governor. Milwaukee County executive David Crowley said in a statement he'll enter the race in the weeks ahead.

This will be Wisconsin's first gubernatorial election without an incumbent in 16 years.

The list of potential contenders include some of the state's highest ranking Democrats, attorney general Josh call and secretary of state Sarah Galusky, Madison state senator Keldor Royes may be on the short list.

Here's what she told Civic Media's Shally Pittman, you know, very flattered and appreciate all the folks who are reaching out to me and urging me to run for governor.

It's certainly something that I'm seriously considering. But what I can say for sure is that I am going to continue spending the next year and a half.

Traveling around the state talking with voters and doing everything in my power to make sure that we have a Democratic governor and a Democratic legislature in 2026.

In the state's highest office politicians on both sides are wondering who will run in the first gubernatorial race without an incumbent in 16 years to Republicans have already declared their candidacy.

Josh Schoeman the Washington County executive and Bill Barry and the Trump aligned businessman interestingly enough former Republican governor Scott Walker teased a run on the social media platform X by posting photos of a red hat with make Wisconsin great again on the front and 45 47 on the side.

Now while 45 47 references president Donald Trump as the 45th and 47th president coincidentally if he ran and if he won Walker would be Wisconsin's 45th and 47th governor preliminary surveys by the National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes in Northeast Wisconsin Wednesday evening.

EF one tornadoes hit Kassina and Gillette while an EF zero was marked in Okonto damage from the three twisters is primarily uprooted trees down branches and some damage to do you know what to do if severe weather strikes when you're camping the Wisconsin Department of natural resources is sharing some safe camping tips with residents in case of severe weather.

The in our officials say the state parks and wildlife areas do not have the staff necessary to communicate critical weather information with thousands of campers so residents should take some precautions themselves campers enjoying the outdoors should always remember to bring a weather radio with them in case they visit an area with poor cell phone service they should also inform people where they plan to go and when they expect to return.

State lawmakers have proposed new legislation adding regulations to protect residents from scams involving cryptocurrency payments the proposed bill would restrict the operations of Bitcoin Treasury machines and require cryptocurrency companies to refund people if they lose money in the scam after being enticed to send the funds through one of the machines representative Ryan spouty of ash waban on is one of the authors of the bill there are many cases both here in Wisconsin and across the country.

Of folks frequently their seniors who are being defrauded they are losing just an incredible amount of money we need to have some good government some very basic regulations in place to make sure that people are not cheated and scammed out their livelihoods and that is what this bill aims to accomplish.

Spotty made his comments on mornings with Pat Crite Low the bill will allow a maximum of one thousand dollars to be transferred at one time and limit fees that cryptocurrency companies can charge the proposed bill could be considered by the legislature this fall.

The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services has announced the distribution of over thirty six million dollars to fire departments across the state.

The funding comes from the two percent fire dues program which requires insurers to pay two percent of the premiums they collect to the state for distribution to professional, volunteer and hybrid fire departments.

This year's funding through the program increased by nearly twelve percent fire departments use the money they receive for things like equipment fire prevention programming and crew training.

It changes for Wisconsin and changes for the Green Bay Packers today Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy hands the management of the pack to current COO and policy today's shareholder meeting marks the transition Murphy has been the team's president since 2007.

Native Wisconsinite Carrie Coon is getting some career props and it's about time.

Coon was nominated for an Emmy for her role as Laurie Duffy on season 3 of White Lotus.

Coon plays a woman on vacation with her two oldest friends played by Leslie Bibb and Michelle Monahan as they build each other up and backstab each other all at the same time.

This is Coon's third Emmy nomination. She also received one for the Gilded Age in 2024 and Fargo in 2017.

But this time she is the odds on favor to actually win the award.

Gold Derby dot com gives Coon a 65% chance of winning the award this time around.
