There's a death investigation underway in the town of Belmont. The Portage County Sheriff's Office received a call of a suspicious vehicle at Fountain Lake Boat Landing a little after 11 a.m. on Friday.
Sheriff's deputies found the vehicle which had an alert from another county to do a welfare check on the driver. The deputies found two other people in the park area who reported there was a man on the trail not far from the boat landing who was deceased.
The name and age of the deceased man is not being released at this time and the circumstances surrounding their death is under investigation.
The Portage County Sheriff's Department urges that if you or someone you know is having a mental health concern or are in crisis to reach out to law enforcement or a mental health professional immediately.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has reported another significant increase in the number of calls for falls in 2024.
According to a recent report, emergency crews responded to over 140,000 calls for residents who were hurt in a fall. The total is nearly 10,000 higher than 2023 and over 35,000 higher than 2019.
DHS officials say the state's aging population is a contributing factor in the increased number of falls. Wisconsin also has the highest fall death rate among older adults in the country.
Wisconsin state lawmakers have introduced legislation to ban hemp derived THC products in Wisconsin. Lisa Hill reports.
The proposed bill would close a loophole in the 2018 federal farm bill allowing certain kinds of items like beverages and vapes that contain THC to be sold legally.
The bill would change the technical definition of hemp and ban the sale of items that contain synthetic cannabinoids.
Republican state representative Scott Krueh has introduced a proposal to allow clerks to begin counting absentee ballots a day earlier.
The current election process requires clerks to wait until election day to count absentee ballots causing delays in larger areas of the state like Madison and Milwaukee.
The proposal would also require absentee ballot drop boxes to have 24-hour video surveillance live streamed on the local municipality's website and require that ballots be transferred from the drop boxes to a storage facility under law enforcement supervision.
Krueh said his goals for Wisconsin elections include three things. That the person voting is who they say they are, that the person is eligible to vote, and that we know who won the election before we go to bed on election night.

On Thursday at the Library, the McMillan Concert Series continues with Medusa. This free concert is on Thursday, October 2nd at 7pm in the Library Fine Arts Center.
Medusa is described as a cross-pollination of the sounds of Middle Eastern Scandinavian, Celtic, Appalachian, and Eastern European music as well as original tunes.
These four folk musicians say they're a reimagined western string quartet that are connecting audiences across dividing lines of culture and identity to reveal the common threads beneath. That's this Thursday at 7pm.

Disappointment in OT. Hi, I'm Mike Clevans with Sports from Dallas, where the Packers kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired in overtime to end with a 40-to-40 tie with the Dallas Cowboys.

It's disappointing just too many critical mistakes that led to that tie and that really bit us in the butt.

Not sure if you guys remember, I broke that whole Tom Holland getting a mild concussion story last week.
Even though it might not seem all that important given what's happening in the world, in the spirit of real journalism,
here's a follow-up on his condition. The 29-year-old is just fine and has been released from the hospital.
Sony and Marvel are taking precautions and keeping Holland away from the set for a week to fully recuperate.

Here's a drama thriller to put on your radar. A house of dynamite is still two weeks away from theaters, but generating a lot of buzz.
The plot, a missile is launched at the United States, and there is a race to find out who is behind it and what the response should be.
The film is directed by Catherine Bigelow, who oversees a hot shot cast, including Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba.
The film will be available to stream October 24 after a brief limited theatrical run.
The president has tons of critics in or out of the entertainment business, but none have been as harsh as Bruce Springsteen.
The boss has written about Blue Collar America for most of his career and professed his love for his country in a recent interview with Time Magazine.
Springsteen hit the president pretty hard during his tour last spring. The boss does not seem intimidated, even though the president has him by three years, about 150 pounds,
and is beating him in bankruptcy's six-zip. Not to mention, he is also leading when it comes to telling someone not to certify election results.
Be that as it may, the boss has a lot more kick butt tunes. All the president could come up with in response to Springsteen's harsh criticism was he's dumb as a rock.
This from the guy who can't pronounce acetaminophen. In the interview with Time, Springsteen probably realized he couldn't match Whits and just said he couldn't care less what the president thinks.
There's just a bunch of fun-loving girl pop stars who happen to kill demons as a side hustle under secret identities.
Pop Demon Hunters has gained momentum all summer as the streaming juggernaut, but at the end of August, it was finally number one in Nielsen ratings for overall streaming, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
When it comes to streamers, Nielsen measures minutes watched as opposed to households when it comes to ratings.
Kpop Demon Hunters had over a billion minutes viewed. That's impressive, especially when you take into account that none of those minutes came from my house. Check it out.
Dulu has carved out a pretty cool career for herself. Her credits include Charlie's Angels, Kill Bill, and Chicago.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, she is about to play a small town Chinatown luxury art dealer in the new crime drama Superfix.
The two-time Emmy nominee will also executive produce the series, which will drop at some point on peacock.
