This week is the 7th annual National Clean Energy Week in Wisconsin. In 2019 Governor Tony Evers penned a proclamation outlining a clean energy goal for Wisconsin.
It aims to make statewide energy consumption 100% carbon free by 2050. Isabella Nieto reports.
Evers kicked off National Clean Energy Week on Monday at a downtown wasaw restaurant. Evers toured the basement and brewing area at the Red Eye Brewing Company. The restaurant features a wood burning oven and is the first brewery in the state to use a solar thermal hot water system.
Owners Brett Danki and Kevin Eichelberger showed Evers how solar panels heat the water used to make their small batch beer. The governor said his visit was to thank the owners for being sustainably conscious.
They're doing everything they can to keep costs down and also be good to the environment.
And added he's pleased to see their success. The interesting thing for me is that they've been doing it for a long time.
When they first from the day they open the door here they've been doing things around making sure that their energy is cheaper and more appropriately solar.
The visit comes as two Republican state legislators announced a proposal this week that would allow community solar programs in Wisconsin.
State Senator Patrick Teston of Stevens Point and Representative Scott Krueger of Rome introduced the bill to tackle rising utility bills.
Under the legislation electric customers could subscribe to a community solar facility and receive credits on their electricity bill for using renewable energy.
Evers says increasing access to solar power options could be beneficial for Wisconsin but he doesn't know if he'll sign the bill until it reaches his desk.
New technology released for rising rivers and floods meteorologist Brittany Merlot tells us more.
Noah's new river flooding maps are out in western parts of Wisconsin mainly focused on the Mississippi River Valley.
This is a new tool that visually shows in high resolution street level views of where flood waters may rise onto land.
It basically puts water on a map for forecasters to see precisely what streets and homes are at risk.
It calculates the current flow of rivers and gives a new forecast update every hour for the national weather service to use.
This will help with both flood forecasting and warnings.
The flood inundation mapping called VIP can also forecast up to five days out.
The program started just two years ago but only covered Louisiana, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Now 60% of the country has this new information to work with.
By next year Noah says the entire country will be covered including eastern areas of Wisconsin near Lake Michigan and up north.
The national water prediction forecast models will be used for more than 3.6 million river miles.

The Wisconsin State Assembly has passed a proposed bill that would effectively require state employees to return to in person work full time.
The bill requires 80% of state employee work time in office.
It passed 51-44 along party lines in the Republican controlled state assembly.
Democratic lawmakers argued the bill would not help the state government operate more effectively.
Saying remote work options helps state agencies recruit and retain good workers from across Wisconsin and consolidate remaining physical workspaces.
With a packers back in action and the brewers heading to the postseason, the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is reminding sports fans to look out for fake memorabilia scams.
Agency officials say scammers have been posting advertisements on social media for fake sports memorabilia with high quality pictures and cheap prices to lure potential victims.
The BBB is reminding residents to research the company before making a purchase, check for certificates of authenticity and be wary of deals that seem too good to be true.
The City of Wisconsin Rapids has a new website. The design has changed in an effort to make it easy to stay informed and in touch with city officials.
The new website is wirapids.gov.
Once there, you'll see quick links to report an issue, sign up for city meeting notifications, find info on garbage and recycling pickup, learn about current and upcoming street closures, pay bills, find election info, and explore area parks.
When you click on city meetings, you can see what is coming up and find past agendas and minutes. You can also subscribe for notifications.
You will need to sign into the website before you can subscribe and verify your email address.
After that, you'll be able to choose which notifications you'd like to receive and if you want them by email or text or both.
If you want only email, once you've checked the email box you're done.
If you want notifications by text, check the little phone icon, enter your phone number, and click on save.
Back on the homepage, there are tabs at the top that are easy to navigate. They include city government, city departments, business, residents, and community.

I asked Packers quarterback Jordan Love why the Browns Miles Garrett is so highly regarded.
You know, he's one of those guys that can wreck a game for an offense, so definitely always got to know where he's at.
After Miles, what stands out on how the Browns defense performed against the Bengals in the ring?
Man, I think they're just a really sound defense. You know, I think watch a film.
You know, they don't do a whole lot of crazy coverages. You know, they're pretty set in what they want to run.
From those defenses where it's like, hey, we're going to run this and you guys got to come out and find ways to stop it.

to check one out with a full crowd, especially if you stick around for insightful conversations during Q&As.
The festival starts September 18th and the venues are the historic Oriental Theater and Downer theaters.

The Emmy Awards were a lot of fun for actress Kristen Miliati, who won an Emmy for her role on the Penguin.
Once the actual award show ended though, the night went south, literally when Miliati took a tumble and dropped her Emmy
while arriving at an after party.
The actress plays Sophia Falcone in the Batman spin-off and beat out some pretty stiff competition in Michelle Williams,
Rashida Jones and Kate Blanchett. To the best of my knowledge, the Emmy was not hurt.
More news from the Emmys and more specifically, the show White Lotus.
The previous three years saw White Lotus as an Emmy darling, but this year the cast was completely shut out,
despite all seven supporting actors drawing nominations.
White Lotus Season 3 won one Emmy this year for original main title music.
If the show could win an Emmy award for beautiful settings, White Lotus would probably be four for four.
While on the red carpet, Season 3 stars Parker Posey and Jason Isaacs let it slip that Season 4 will take place in the South of France.
A nice assortment of films are opening this week in theaters.
Afterburn, stars David Batista and Samuel Jackson.
The story takes place after fire destroys Earth's eastern hemisphere and a treasure hunter sets out to find the Mona Lisa,
but realizes that he needs to be a hero and save much more than just a painting.
I have to say I'm intrigued, but there are no reviews in yet.
Two films open wide that involves sports, him is a horror film produced by Jordan Peel about a young athlete manipulated by an old pro.
And the senior stars Michael Chicklis as a 59-year-old former high school football player who returns to the gridiron to rectify history.
It's rated PG and there are only seven reviews in, but they are all positive so far.
Sounds like a feel good.
And if none of those titles grab you, you might want to check your local listings as Apollo 13 is being re-released in a limited run.
If nothing else I mentioned is to your liking, 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and Tom Hanks as an astronaut might be just what you need.
