Civic Media News. I'm Terry Bell. Here's what Wisconsin needs to know. The Democratic nominee for president visits the birthplace of the Republican Party today. Vice President Kamala Harris campaigns in Ripon. It's Harris 5th visit to Wisconsin since her campaign began in July.
Donald Trump won Fondle Act County by more than 15,000 votes four years ago. Trump campaigns in Juneau on Sunday.
Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump by four points in Wisconsin in the latest market poll. Pull director Charles Franklin says independence have been trending for Harris since Joe Biden left the race.
Independence have bumped up to 60 or a little above 60% for Harris. Saying it twice in a row, I think is worth noting.
A new report finds Wisconsin is heading toward a potential senior care crisis. Forward analytics says the number of people in Wisconsin age 75 and older is expected to go up by about 75% in the next 20 years. That means a need for almost 60,000 new nursing home beds and 99,000 nurses and other staff by 2040.
45 pets displaced by Hurricane Helene are now in animal shelters around Wisconsin. The Humane Society's Lisa Bernard says the ideas to open up space and affected areas to handle local pets lost and reunite them with their owners. The Humane Society will make an announcement when the animals here are up for adoption.
As many as 82 Wisconsin projects tied to clean energy could qualify for tax incentives under the inflation reduction act. Emily Pritzko, the Wisconsin Building Trades Council says they'll offer good jobs.

The Milwaukee Brewers may be looking for a new home on cable TV. The operator of Bally Sports was in bankruptcy court yesterday. Its reorganization plan includes cutting ties with seven teams under contract for next year, including the Brewers.

For WFHR and WIRI News, I'm Melissa K. Public Health vending machines are now available across wood county communities. These vending machines provide free high quality health and safety supplies to anyone in need.
The Wood County Health Department announced the placement of the machines in strategic locations across the county. In Wisconsin Rapids, vending machines are placed near aftermath tattoo, mid-state technical college, and the Wood County Riverblock Building.
In Marshfield, they're at mid-state, the Family Health Center, and St. Vincent de Paul. The machines are stocked with a wide range of health-related items such as CPR kits, Narcan, fentanyl, and xyluzine test kits for state kits and more. These items are free and available to those who need them.
There's electronic recycling tomorrow at the Adams Columbia Electric Cooperative Friendship Office from 10 to 2. Members may bring up to 5 electronics per membership.
You may notice discolored water for a short time this week. Fall hydrant flushing is taking place in many locations around our listening area.
The Wisconsin Rapids Water Works and Lighting Commission will be conducting hydrant flow tests today beginning at 9.30 this morning. They're focusing on an area around family natural foods and also plover street near the Catholic Church.
Police departments around the area are reminding everyone to lock your car doors. Studies have shown that the most burglarized or stolen vehicles have been left unlocked.
Officials say you should always lock your vehicle, even if it's parked in your driveway or garage, never hide a spare key anywhere in or on your vehicle. Most thefts happen when valuables are left unattended, and most property stolen is left unattended or unlocked.
Remember, responsible citizens don't attempt to enter unlocked vehicles that are not their own, but criminals will.
Roadwork will begin in the town of Rome next week. Beginning on October 7th, crews will begin working on Archer Avenue. A section will be closed completely beginning at 15th Avenue.
Archer Avenue will be under construction from 15th Avenue to County Trunk Highway Z, but local access will be maintained. The project is expected to take approximately 4 weeks.
If you need to take a snowmobile safety class this year, the Portage County Sheriff's Office is offering classes in December.
This is an official DNR training program taught by certified sheriff's deputies and other highly skilled volunteers. It gives the fundamentals on safe and legal operations of snowmobiles.
Classes are scheduled for December 9th, 10th, and 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. Space is limited and you'll need to register at gowild.wi.gov.
Are you a BMX fan? Well then you'll be glad to hear that the Badger State Nationals are coming back to Wisconsin Rapids in 2025.
BMX or Bicycle Motorcross is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. Our Central Wisconsin BMX will host one of only 30 BMX national races next year.
The three-day event will happen August 1st through the 3rd in 2025. CW BMX has hosted the event five times since 2010.
In 2022, the event brought over 8,000 visitors from 34 states to the Wisconsin Rapids area.
Science by the river happens this Saturday in downtown Wisconsin Rapids. This free event is fun for the whole family.
There will be a series of educational hands-on learning stations along the Wisconsin River from Ben Hansen Park to Veterans Memorial Park from 11 to 2.

That's what it sounded like on ESPN Radio as the Brewers beat the Mets 5-3 last night. Hi, I'm Jimmy Cusco with sports, filling it from Mike Clemens.
Today will be Game 3 of the Wildcard series between the Brewers and the Mets. Jackson Turio hit two home runs and Garrett Mitchell hit a go-ahead two-round blast to move the Brewers in front in the win.
Mitchell said he was excited for the opportunity to come up big.
Obviously, there's a lot of pressure there, but at the same time, it's just enjoying the game and having fun.
It's a kids game, you know. Play it. Like I said, those are the types of things you look at it like when you're in the backyard.
It was awesome. It was exciting. Still trying to come down from it, but just most importantly, I'm excited to have play another game or another day of baseball and come back out here tomorrow and do it again.
Manager Pat Murphy said Turio had a great night. Yeah, that's pretty special. Yeah, pretty special. A lot of guys contributed tonight.
It was, you know, again, you saw what our team's about, what they've been about all year. They didn't quit. They'd kept every pitch. Yeah, a lot of guys contributions, but Turio.
Willie Adamis was impressed by Turio's performance. I mean, insane, insane. I mean, he's, I feel like he's done some, you know, he hit some clutch hits throughout the year.
But I know for him that felt amazing. And for the team felt positive change the whole game right there. He gave us an opportunity to play in three tomorrow.

And the backers will try to bounce back this week as they take on the Rams on Sunday after losing last weekend to the Vikings kickoff on Sunday is after 3 p.m.

The show ran for eight seasons on Cartoon Network and is being brought back by Warner Brothers. Hamill played a Yeti named Skips and will return to the role.
If you haven't checked out the animated show, I recommend it, or maybe you're not interested in the high jinks of Slacker's Mordecai, a Blue J, and Rigby, a Raccoon, who try to avoid doing any kind of actual work and spend the day playing video games.
It's like a lot to get Daniel Day Lewis to come out of retirement. Specifically, the movie his son is making that Lewis helped him co-write.
Lewis has not been seen on the silver screen in seven years, but is warming up his acting chops to star in an enemy.
Ronan is directing the film for Focus Features. According to Yahoo Entertainment, the story centers on the relationships between fathers and sons and brothers.
Daniel Day Lewis is considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest actor of his generation. He's the only male actor to have won three Oscars for best actor.
Lots of really respected actors have passed away the last several days, including Maggie Smith, Chris Christofferson, John Ashton, and now John Amos.
Amos starred in Roots, the TV miniseries from the late 1970s, and Norman Lear's hit show Good Times. His other credits included Coming to America, Uncut Gems, and Die Hard 2. Amos was 84 years old.
It seems no one has told Haley Welch, also known as the Hock Tua girl, that her 15 minutes of fame are up.
First, she was an internet sensation, then she threw out a few first pitches, and appeared on popular podcasts, and sold some serious merch. But she's not stopping there.
Now she has her own podcast on Spotify, and it's the third most popular. The podcast is called Talk Tua. Those who tune in to Talk Tua can expect to hear Haley chatting with celebrities, exuding Southern hospitality, and giving her relationship advice.
I thought Hock Tua was relationship advice. The show Reacher has never been devoid of girl power, but a new spin-off will take it to the next level. Prime videos developing a new series.
It will star Maria Sten, who plays Francis Negley, opposite Reacher. In a recent interview, Sten said the show will still be very Reacher with snappy dialogue and lots of action, but it will be its own show.
Reacher, based on the books by Lee Child, is one of Amazon's most popular shows domestically and worldwide. A release date has not been set.
Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump will not be invited onto Saturday Night Live before the November 5th presidential election.
SNL creator Lauren Michaels told the Hollywood reporter that due to equal time provisions, it gets too complicated, and he would have to invite every candidate on.
Even minor candidates who are only on the ballot in two or three states. I guess for the time being, we are stuck with impersonators James Austin Johnson as Trump and Maya Rudolph playing Harris.
