Civic Media News, I'm Savannah Tomey Olsson, here's what Wisconsin needs to know.
A new poll shows former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are neck
and neck among Wisconsin seniors.
An AARP poll shows that 47% of likely voters over age 50 in Wisconsin said they'd vote for
Trump compared to 45% for Harris.
This is actually an improvement for the Democratic ticket back in July before President Joe
Biden left the race in this same poll Trump was leading Biden by seven points.
And Governor Tony Evers wants Republicans to work with him to pass budget increases
for the universities of Wisconsin.
His plan includes the biggest ever increase for the system to the tune of over $800 million
total.
We have an obligation to make sure this system itself isn't in good place and it can't
be done.
That proposal will go into Evers budget next year.
The second district court of appeals has accepted Robert Kennedy's appeal to get his name off
the ballots here in Wisconsin, but here's the thing clerks have already started mailing
out absentee ballots to voters all over the state.
The second district appellate court will get briefs from the Wisconsin Elections Commission
and Kennedy's lawyers by the end of the day tomorrow.
In a new study shows raising the minimum wage does not lead to widespread job cuts.
The Economic Policy Institute says states with $15 an hour, minimums outpace the national
average for job growth.
Economist Ben Zipperer minimum wage is very consistently have ended up raising the incomes
of low wage workers and they have done so in a way that doesn't cause any big negative
employment shocks or big disruptions in the local economy.
The state minimum wage is 725 an hour and Republican lawmakers have stalled efforts
to raise it.
More than two dozen people are hurt after a hay wagon accident.
It happened in Chippewa Falls yesterday and an apple orchard.
The sheriff said two tractors carrying people in wagons crashed into each other.
More than 25 people were rushed to local hospitals there.
People of all ages were hurt including kids.
Their injuries ranged from minor to life threatening.
And Governor Tony Evers will push for a record increase for the UW system when the next
state budget rolls around to the tune of over $800 million.
It would be the largest increase ever for UW's budget.
Utah shows Wisconsin ranks 43rd in the nation when it comes to state funding to the university
system.
The $800 million request will go into Evers by any budget next year, then the legislature
will dig in.
With elections this fall, the legislature may look different than two.
Now here's what you need to know closer to home.

A student made a threat directed at Wisconsin Rapids Middle School during their bus ride
home yesterday.
Don't worry, they found no credible threat to the safety of students or staff.
However, there will be increased law enforcement at Rams today.
Here's what happened.
The threat was reported to the bus driver who took it up the chain to school administration.
The Wisconsin Rapids PD and Admin launched an investigation and also brought in the
Grand Rapids Police.
The student admitted to making the threat, but law enforcement found they did not have
the means to carry it out.
The student will face serious school consequences and referrals are being made to Wood County
human services.
The school district reinforces that threats of any kind, whether real or made in just,
are absolutely unacceptable and will be met with strong consequences.
Please continue to encourage your children if you see or hear something, say something.
Lincoln High School went into lockdown at 10.45 Wednesday morning after students reported
a threatening message to administration.
They immediately called in the Wisconsin Rapids PD to investigate.
Superintendent Ron Rasmussen said the students did exactly what they're supposed to do in
this type of situation.
Interviewing those students, WRPD did.
They determined that the messages are related to a Snapchat message that was from James
Thou New York, about five days ago.
That was posted and that's when they determined within 35 minutes that the threat was not towards
Lincoln or anybody at Lincoln.
Staff members are trained in Alice protocols and are empowered to make some decisions on
their own for the safety of students in their care.
Some staff did move students away from doorways and moved them into bigger areas.
Scammers are relentless and they're still trying to impersonate our sheriff's office staff.
The caller states they're with the Wood County Sheriff's Office saying they need to discuss
an urgent legal matter.
Never give out financial or detailed personal information over the phone.
If you feel something is off, hang up.
You can call the sheriff's office directly at their non-emergency number 715-421-8701.
Remember the sheriff's office will never ask for payment, gift cards, or cryptocurrency
to resolve a matter.
Reading is the building block for learning and you can help kids with their reading skills.
The United Way of Southwood and Adams counties is looking for reading mentors for this school
year.
You'll help students in kindergarten through third grade build their reading skills.
The commitment is one hour per week for volunteers.

The incident that happened at Lincoln High School on Wednesday caused concern within the
community.
In an interview, one parent said it's difficult to sit in wait, but they knew that was the
best way to allow school officials and police to do their job and keep everyone safe.
Superintendent Ron Rasfason said the LHS building was in a code yellow.
Because of Alice protocols, staff members can choose to further secure their classrooms
if they hear or see something happening.
Some classrooms turned off their lights and implemented further security.
The parent interviewed said their student was confused by the second announcement, saying
that if the fire alarm went off, to not exit the building, they didn't know what that
meant and it confused students.

The Brewers are playoff bound.

Milwaukee clinched the N L Central and a playoff spot when the Chicago Cubs lost one
day afternoon.
Then the Brewers went ahead and beat the Phillies on a walkoff hit by Jake Bowers to
cap off a huge day in Milwaukee.
And delivers swing in a rocket to ride base hit they win.
Manager Pat Murphy said after the game that the team had to overcome adversity to win
a championship.
No one in spring training would have said that Brewers will win the N L Central except
maybe a few guys in that room and it just talks to one thing.
This is a game about people.
There's more to play for now for the Brewers who will take on Arizona for four games
beginning tonight to wrap up a seven game home stand.
The Packers have quarterback Jordan love back at practice but head coach Matt LaFleur
said that love is limited in his work this week.
Love said that he's taking everything a day at a time as he works back from an NCL
spring he suffered at the season opener.
Yeah, I mean, that's one of those things.
I'm going to take the week.
Just take it day by day and see how it feels but I'm not going to make any decision
about now.
I'm hopeful that I'll get to that point where I can get in there but we're just going
to take it day by day and see.
Malik Willis who started last week in place of love said he's preparing as though he'll
play this week but said love might also be available.
I just have to continue to try to absorb and learn this offense best as I can and be
able to execute on those things that we missed out on this weekend and learn from the
film and continue to just grow.
And that's if given the opportunity.
Like you say, Jordan's feeling a lot better so we can't say that he won't go this week
and he's going to be on hit how he feels and how comfortable he is, you know.

It was just announced this week that there will be a third season of monsters on Netflix
and the season will have a morbid Wisconsin connection show creator Ryan Murphy addressed
the crowd at the premiere of monsters, the Lyle and Eric Menendez story by saying there
will be a season two, but also a season three details are sketchy, but Charlie Hunam is
expected to play Ed Geen.
Hunam played Jacks Teller on FX's Sons of Anarchy from 2008 to 2014.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is proving to be a friend of the biz.
Newsom just signed a bill that gives performers more protections and more control over their
likeness when it comes to AI.
The governor signed two bills into law on Tuesday at SAG headquarters in Los Angeles.
The union has been a big proponent of the bills and Newsom has proven to be a big proponent
of the union.
There might be people who don't like Dolly Parton, but you'll probably never meet one.
The legendary singer recently created family meal kits where people can eat Dolly's cooking
in their home and they really are her own recipes.
Parton also weighed in on Beyoncé's country album saying she really liked it and is open
to doing a duet with her at some point.
She called Taylor Swift a great inspiration and said we need uplifting people these days.
Kind of like Dolly Parton.
Wouldn't it be insulting to find out that your friends are swingers and you've never
been invited to one of their parties?
Host of the Armchair Expert Podcast, Dex Shepherd says those are the kind of texts he got
when tabloids reported that he and his wife Kristen Bell were Hollywood swingers.
Shepherd told Drew Baramore on her talk show that his friends were hurt that they were
not invited to the parties.
The joke is sort of on them though because now Shepherd knows who all of his swinger
friends are.
Bong Junho is directing Mickey 17, his first film since his Oscar winning a parasite.
Warner Brothers released a trailer of the film that stars Robert Pattinson, Tony Collette,
and Mark Ruffalo.
Pattinson plays a man whose boss imposes the task of dying for a living on him.
Bong Junho's parasite won six Oscars in 2020, Pattinson will also appear in the Batman
Part 2 which is scheduled for an October 2026 release.
Mickey 17 is currently in post-production and scheduled for a July 31, 2025 release.
