Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walls campaign in Wisconsin today, the Democratic
ticket made its debut last night in Philadelphia.
Many in today's audience in O'Clair are already familiar with Democratic Vice presidential
running mate Tim Walls, he's the governor of Minnesota after all.
Walls told the Philadelphia crowd last night his former high school students inspired
him.
They saw in me what I was hoping to instill in them, a commitment of common good, a belief
that one person can make a difference.
Republican running mate JD Vance will also speak in O'Clair, stay with Civic media for
live coverage.
The former warden at the Wapun state prison is pleading not guilty to charges at an inmate's
death.
Randall Hep is charged with felony misconduct in office, the inmate died in his cell of dehydration.
It was one of five deaths of Wapun in the last 13 months.
Former hotel security guards are now charged with felony murder in the death of a Milwaukee
man in June.
The medical examiner says to Vante Mitchell died of what's called restraint asphyxia.
Mitchell's family's been calling for charges for more than a month.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland says the Justice Department is fighting violent
crime in Wisconsin, arresting felons and preventing violent drug trafficking.
In Milwaukee yesterday, Garland pointed out the nation's violent crime rate is one of
the lowest in 50 years.
The bipartisan group is trying to bust stubborn myths eroding public trust in elections.
Former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes is one of the members of the Democracy Defense
Project.
He says social media is exacerbating the problem.
It's so easy for bad information to flow and I think that 2020, there was everything
that helped that, that helped that wildfire just spread.
The group pulled voters on policies to help improve people's confidence in elections,
although many of them are already being used.
Wisconsin has its first LGBTQ historical landmark.
It honors Josie Carter, a black transgender woman who defended the Black Knight Tavern in
Milwaukee during an outbreak of violence in 1961.
The Wisconsin Historical Society plans up to 30 new markers telling the stories of underrepresented
communities across the state.

The engineering manager Steve told me about some of the safety equipment they make.

We're talking prisoner cages and window protection and console boxes where the police officers
can mount their equipment for lights and radios.
We also make rugged computer mounts so that they can mount their laptops in a safe manner
inside the vehicle so that when they get an accident or when they need to move quickly
the laptops are secure.
The rafters beat the Minnesota mud puppies 10 to 4.
The first confirmed case of West Nile virus has bitten Wisconsin.

The DHS urges everyone to protect themselves against mosquito bites.
The virus was found in a blood donor from Washington County and also in a dead bird in Chippewa
County.
People who have weakened immune systems are at a higher risk for significant illness.
West Nile virus is spread to humans, birds, and other animals through the bite of an infected
mosquito which they acquire by feeding uninfected birds.
The virus is not spread directly from person to person, animal to animal, or animal to person.
The Wisconsin fall primary is less than a week away on Tuesday, August 13.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Thursday, August 8.
The deadline to register at your municipal clerk's office is 5 p.m. Friday, August 9.

The Winterfield parking lot was jam-packed with excited children and parents and lots of
fire trucks and police vehicles last night in Wisconsin Rapids.
Kids were trying on equipment, climbing into trucks and cars, and petting police dogs.
Lieutenant Dean is with the Wood County Sheriff's Department.
It gives us as first responders the opportunity to just hang out, talk to people in a normal
setting, outside of an emergency situation, give them high fives, shake hands, and explain
why we do what we do, why we have the equipment we have, and really just hang out in just such
a fun, friendly environment.
Among other community groups, the Girl Scouts were there with their new adventure RV.
We just officially wrapped adventures on the go, which are our mobile outdoor program
unit, and we came here to show it off and toast marshmallows and have some fun.
The start of the school year is right around the corner, helping your child fit their backpack
correctly is important to avoid neck pain, headaches, and other injuries.
Megan Stankowski is a physical therapist and athletic trainer with a spirus health.
A backpack should be positioned on a child's back with both straps used around the shoulders.
The backpack should be at the hips or no lower, and it should be as shoulder should be
stung tight so the backpack is not swaying side to side.
Megan said parents need to check in with their child to make sure they're not experiencing
any issues with their backpack.
Asking their child first, hey, how do you like your backpack?
How does it feel?
How's not going to relate any pain or anything like that to the backpack?
Children shouldn't carry more than 15% of their body weight in a backpack, and it's important
to load the heaviest items low and near the center of the back.

Mike Tressel admits they need more depth on the Badgers defensive line.

TMZ has reported a chair of celebrity lovers quarrels.
The latest is between MMA fighter Conor McGregor and former President Donald Trump.
The former president said in a recent interview, his favorite MMA fighter was Habib, thankfully,
pronounced just how it sounds, Nirmagomedov, which hurt McGregor's feelings.
McGregor lashed out and said he no longer supports Trump, and that he's only worth
a couple hundred million and not even a billionaire.
Dana White has not weighed in yet on the controversy, which is most likely confusing, many monosexuals,
also known as MMA fans.
Both Timothy Shalame and Bob Dylan have their share of fans, but if the fan bases cross paths,
then the following news is a really big win.
Variety reports that the Bob Dylan biopic, a complete unknown in which Shalame stars
has just been given a release date.
The film is set in New York City where a 19-year-old Dylan arrives in Greenwich Village
before taking the folk world by storm.
A complete unknown will hit theaters December 25th.
Yep, that's Christmas Day, and it will have to compete for box office dollars with Nosferatu,
went to one of the thousands of Skarguards.
Kevin Costner's Horizon and American Saga Part 2 will premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival,
just a few weeks after it was announced that the film's theatrical release was pulled.
Usually studios and filmmakers use festivals to build momentum toward a theatrical release,
but this project is going in reverse.
Horizon Part 2 comes in just under three hours.
Hopefully there will be time left over at the Venice Film Festival to screen other films.
Ben Affleck cannot seem to get disimpressed lately.
TV host Sarah Ferguson recently slammed the actor as one of her worst interviews ever after
discussing the film air in which Affleck plays film night.
Ferguson told the city Morning Herald that Affleck appeared disinterested and rude
throughout their chat, which took place last year.
Affleck defended himself a few weeks later on Jimmy Kimmel live, saying that is just what
his face looks like, and that is how God made him.
Yeah, but you're an actor.
Paul Matt Damon doesn't seem to care that Affleck doesn't smile much because making movies
with Ben and brother Casey is a breeze.
Damon says they are like his brothers and egos are put aside when they collaborate,
which Damon and Casey did on the new film The Instigators, a crime thriller available
to stream August 9th on Apple TV.
