After falling short in the 2024 election, Democrat Rebecca Cook has emerged victorious in the rematch for Wisconsin's third congressional district.

Cook defeated incumbent Republican Congressman Derek Van Orden in Tuesday's election, flipping the seat back to Democratic control after two terms under Republican control.

Speaking to an excited crowd of supporters after Congressman Van Orden called to concede the race, Cook promised Western Wisconsin residents that help was on the way.

This is a victory for all of us, for anyone who is struggling to pay your rent or your mortgage, drowning in medical debt, worrying if you have to sell the farm.

Help is coming.

While the result was different this time around, Cook's campaign strategy remained largely the same as 2024.

Speaking at her campaign headquarters in Eau Claire on Tuesday morning, she highlighted her increased capacity to connect with Western Wisconsin residents on the persistent issues like health care accessibility they've struggled with over the past few years, as well as new issues like tariffs and gas prices as the difference

maker.

the impact that healthcare cuts have had to people in this district, hospital closures, you know, you also look at this more in Iran, which nobody voted for, jacked up diesel prices, fertilizer prices, and that increases the cost for everybody because it just takes more to ship goods to the grocery store, right?

And so I think people are hurting more than ever and need people that are rooted in reality that are going to deliver results and actually really work across the aisle.

So I think a lot of the things that we've been talking about are similar, but also we have just grown our capacity to be

able to communicate and talk to people around this district about those issues.

And I think that that's been one of the difference makers for

sure.

The Associated Press officially called the race just before midnight.

Cook's lead stood at around 12,000 votes with 99% counted.

Wisconsin voters made history yesterday by electing our state's first black governor.

Democrat David Crowley defeated Republican Tom Tiffany in Wisconsin's gubernatorial race.

Crowley's victory also marks the first time in our state's 178-year history that Democrats will hold the governor's office for more than eight consecutive years.

Tiffany conceded the race by 9.30 last night.

He congratulated Crowley on his victory, saying,

While we have our differences, we both love this great state, and I wish him and his family the very best as he prepares to serve as Wisconsin's next governor.

Shortly afterward, David Crowley thanked Wisconsin voters on social media, saying in part, thank you for believing in me, serving as your governor will be the honor of a lifetime.

Wisconsin voters also secured the trifecta Democrats were hoping for, gaining the majority in both chambers of the state legislature.

Analysts say Wisconsin's results are part of a blue wave that swept the nation in the midterm elections, a sign that voters are tired of a broken political system, rising costs, and healthcare that's becoming out of reach.

In other news, the former city manager of two rivers has now been arrested for a third time in three days.

Police arrested Kyle Cordell on Sunday for domestic abuse charges.

He was arrested again the following day for violating the domestic abuse 72-hour no-contact rule and arrested again yesterday after violating the same rule for a second time since it was issued.

Cordell faces two additional counts of bail jumping and was taken to the Manitowoc County Jail.

A driver is dead after crashing their car into a house in Oshkosh early this week.

The car left the road and went into a home around 2 a.m.

Firefighters attempted life-saving efforts, but the person died due to their injuries.

No one in the house was injured, and the driver was alone in their vehicle.

After a roller coaster of a campaign that included dropping out of the race for Wisconsin governor, then getting back in again, Democrat David Crowley defeated Republican Tom Tiffany to become Wisconsin's next governor.

It was a history-making victory with Crowley becoming Wisconsin's first black governor in what became the most expensive governor's race in state history, according to analysis from Wispolitics.

At age 40, Crowley will also be the youngest governor of our state in nearly a century.

Democrats swept every statewide race on the ballot, flipped two congressional seats, and took control of both sides of the state legislature for the first time in 16 years.

Governor Tony Evers called Crowley a comeback kid,

applauding the candidates rise from the poorest zip code in Wisconsin to be elected to the state's top leader.

Congressman Tom Tiffany congratulated Crowley in his concession speech less than two hours after the polls closed.

Tiffany said, quote, while we have our differences, we both love this great state.

And I wish him and his family the very best as he prepares to serve as Wisconsin's next governor.

Analysts tied Tiffany's defeat as well as other Republican losses to the record low approval rating of President Donald Trump who endorsed Tiffany.

Wisconsin voters followed a similar wave seen across the country as Democrats unseated long-term Republican candidates.

For the first time in 16 years, Democrats will have the majority in both chambers of the state legislature, winning the trifecta Democrats were after.

In other closely watched races around the state, Rebecca Cook defeated Derek Van Orden in a rematch for the District 3 seat.

Democrat Mitchell Berman claimed victory over Republican U.S.

Representative Ryan Stiles for Wisconsin's first congressional district.

race.

But incumbent Tony Weed defeated his Democratic challenger, Rick Crossen, in Wisconsin's 8th congressional district.

And that's your state news update.

Braden Burry is expected to start again at Point Guard and in the days ahead, head coach Taylor Jenkins.

You know, aside for the opportunities that he's going to have ahead, just to understand the matchups he's going to have, the disciplines going to take, and how it can be an engine for us in offense, ability to get downhill, and when the ball is moving, he's going to get those open shots and just keep letting them fly.

Now, the Bucks

leading scorer, Wisconsin native Tyler Hero, says he wants to stay in Milwaukee and not be traded.

We got a lot to work on which is pretty normal this part of November and I know this is a group of young ladies that really wants it they want to they want to win at a high level and you know they're just kind of learning what that needs to look like in the consistency of it so I'm sure we're all excited to get back to it tomorrow and learn and grow and get better from it.
