It's Wayne Mauser, local news.

Good morning.

I'm Wayne Mauser for Civic Media News.

One person is dead and another is injured after a two vehicle crash in Wapaka County Sunday morning.

The crash happened just after 10 a.m.

at the intersection of State Highway 22 and Old Highway 22 in the town of Dayton.

Investigators say a minivan was heading north on Old Highway 22 and failed to yield the right of way, hitting a pickup truck traveling east on Highway 22.

A 70-year-old man from Grand Chute driving the minivan died at the scene.

His passenger, a 65-year-old woman also from Grand Chute, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The pickup truck driver, a 45 year old woman from Allmond, along with five juvenile passengers, were not hurt.

The State Patrol Saturday morning announced the line of duty death of Trooper Bradley Rittger at the age of 29.

On September 21st, he was responding to a traffic pursuit when he deployed a tire deflation device on a bridge deck west of the Dunn County, Eau Claire County line.

As he moved to a position of cover, he fell from the bridge onto the roadway before.

Despite life-saving efforts and critical medical care, Trooper Rittger succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

State Patrol Superintendent Tim Carnahan said

says, his service will never be forgotten.

Trooper Rittger served in the Northwest region for nearly five years, primarily in the Dunn County area.

Governor Tony Evers says, quote, our hearts break for Trooper Rittger and his family.

He was already leading a life of public service and dedication to our state, and our state workers joined his co-workers and colleagues, friends and loved ones in mourning his passing.

A woman who fled from a traffic stop in Fond du Laie County early Friday morning was captured after

a five-mile vehicle pursuit and short foot chase.

The stop shortly after 1 a.m.

was for an equipment violation on Interstate 41 northbound near County Highway F. The woman driving provided the deputy with a false name but was recognized by the deputy.

She was wanted on a warrant from the county for failing to pay a fine on a cocaine possession charge.

The driver was also asked to exit the vehicle but refused and fled from the stop.

State troopers put down tire deflation devices.

The fleeing vehicle

became disabled near Highway 151 in the northbound lanes of I-41.

The driver fled on foot but was taken into custody in the Highway 151 overpass over I-41.

She was booked into the county jail on fleeing an officer, second degree recklessly endangering safety, resisting an officer, misdemeanor bail jumping, and two counts of felony bail jumping.

She also has open drug cases in Winnebago and Wapaka counties.

No government or private property was damaged during the pursuit.

Fonda Line County District Attorney Eric Tony is hoping to unseat incumbent Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Call in next month's election.

Bob Nelson has the story for Civic Media News.

The two had a tight race four years ago.

Tony is a Republican.

He says that people want an attorney general who focuses on fighting crime, not politics.

He says despite more resources and better technology, forensic testing at the state crime lab is still too slow.

And that consequence means that we have victims that are having justice denied with these delays.

Criminals are on our streets longer than they should be.

Some defendants continue to commit new crimes with new victims.

Tony says a hiring freeze instituted by call at the State Department of Justice was costly in the war against fentanyl, which is responsible for more deaths than any other drug overdose.

Our Attorney General has ignored that crisis at the border with illegal drugs pouring into the country and here into Wisconsin.

Tony would also like to see the legislature enact more penalties for the misuse of data from automated license plate readers and flock cameras.

He says used properly, the system can get dangerous criminals off the streets.

New education data shows Wisconsin students are showing minor progress, but a significant disparity still remains between black and white students.

Statewide, nearly half of public school students met or exceeded proficiency standards in English language arts and math on the latest state assessments.

Reading proficiency increased across all tested grades compared to last year in the proficiency gap between black and white students also narrowed slightly, but is still one of the largest education gaps in the country.

State Superintendent Dr. Jill Ireland praised the steady progress, while noting, more work remains to support students and educators statewide.

The service costs just under $20 a month or about $100 for the full season and is available through the NBA app and the Bucks website.

It'll show locally televised games, although national exclusive games will not be included.

Bucks Plus starts tonight with Milwaukee's preseason game against Minnesota.
