A 43-year-old man was killed and a 36-year-old man seriously injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision on State Highway 73 in Green Lake County Friday morning.
Sheriff's officials say the collision north of County Highway X was reported via a 911 call at 5.10 a.m.
The driver of a northbound minivan was pulseless and not breathing when EMS and deputies arrived.
Bystanders and emergency personnel provided life-saving efforts, but they were unsuccessful and the man died at the scene.
The other man was driving a pickup truck.
He was taken to Waupon Memorial Hospital with severe injuries.
There were no passengers in the two vehicles.
The Green Lake County Sheriff's Office is being assisted in the investigation by the State Patrol and Marquette County Sheriff's Office.
Early Friday morning, Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Detectives made an arrest for the 1995 disappearance of James Jim Ruland.
The arrest of 73-year-old Jerome Byer was at Byer's home near Spencer, Wisconsin in Marathon County on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.
Ruland was last seen on October 24th of 1995, and a witness reported they may have seen him hitchhiking in North Fond du Lac on October 26th of 1995.
He has not been seen since.
He was 40 years old at the time and was living in the town of Ripon.
His vehicle was later located at the stretch truck stop in North Fond du Lac.
Over the past 31 years, law enforcement has conducted extensive efforts to locate Ruland.
Evidence uncovered during the investigation shifted the case from a missing person inquiry to a homicide investigation.
Eventually, advances in forensic technology and tests of previous evidence helped cooperate information gathered through interviews and other evidence analysis.
Roland's remains still haven't been found, but sufficient probable cause led to Jerome Byer's arrest.
Byer was Roland's roommate at the time of his disappearance.
Byer is expected to make his initial court appearance this morning.
A 45-year-old Oshkosh man surrendered peacefully following a standoff in the 1800 block of North Main Street late Friday night.
Shortly before 10.30 p.m.
officers were dispatched for a weapons call, the victim told officers the suspect had pointed a weapon at the victim and threatened to kill the victim.
The victim escaped from the residence.
Officers learned three juveniles were still inside the residence and the suspect had threatened to kill them and any responding police officers.
Oshkosh police's SWAT team negotiated
team, drone team, the state patrol and Winnebago County Sheriff's deputies responded to the location.
Negotiators were able to contact the man and convinced him to surrender.
He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail and has been charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct and strangulation.
A search warrant was used to search the home which turned up four firearms and ammunition.
An investigation sparked by a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children left to the arrest of a 30-year-old Ripon resident this past Tuesday.
Ripon police officers, assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, executed a search warrant at the residence of pirate L. Blades Purcell in the area of South Union and Church Streets.
During the search, officers seized electronic devices and storage media which are being reviewed.
Blades per cell was booked into the county jail, charged with possession of child pornography and child sexual exploitation, produce, perform, et cetera.
Both are felony charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
He made his initial court appearance on Friday and is being held in the county jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 30th.
Berlin School Superintendent Emmett Durchy says they got off to a good start with the new school year.

Enrollment was up for the first time in years and they welcomed 14 new teachers.
Durchy says this year they begin focusing on portrait of a graduate.
It's a state mandate focusing on eight soft skills traits.
They would like to see students develop before they graduate
from high school.
And some of those include things like being responsible, being cynically minded, involved in your community, having communicative or communication skills, leadership skills, being curious, lifelong learner, those sort of things.
D'Arcy says they began working toward those goals in the district several years ago, and most educators had already begun developing those skills in their classrooms.

The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is asking Governor Tony Evers to declare a state disaster following last month's natural gas liquid spill in Iron County.
Line 5 was shut down on August 25th after an unoccupied subcontractor truck rolled into an open excavation site near Saxon and struck the pipeline, releasing about 1.3 million gallons of natural gas liquids.
Enbridge returned the pipeline to service last weekend using a temporary bypass.
However, the Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources had asked the company to halt construction of the bypass in a letter on September 9th, saying it did not have the required permits.
This bill happened about three miles from the Bad River Reservation.
Chairwoman Liz Arbuckle says the tribe plans to declare it as a disaster and wants the state to do the same.

Enbridge says its bypass work was consistent with existing permit conditions or its application to amend a stormwater permit.
The company says it remains in contact with the DNR and that soil and water monitoring continues at the spill site.

Wisconsin food banks could get a big financial boost next year.
Civic Media's James Kelly tells us how nonprofits can apply for a piece of the $5 million pie.
A number of food banks across the state will receive state grant funding to support their operations for 2027.
According to a press release, $5 million in funding is available through the Food Security and Wisconsin Products grant program.
It's the second year of funding through the grant program, which seeks to support nonprofits as the demand for food assistance services increases, as well as the state's agricultural industry by using that funding to purchase food from Wisconsin producers.

Medicine police are a step closer to equipping officers with body cameras after years of delay.
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway's proposed 2027 capital budget includes more than $400,000 to fund the initial purchase of equipment for the force.
Chief John Patterson told Channel 3000 News the technology will boost transparency, noting that Madison has been one of the few departments nationwide without body cams.
