One of the fundamental tenets of democracy is the ability of ordinary folks to petition their government without fear of retribution—unless you signed a petition a dozen years ago to recall Scott Walker for stripping away workers’ rights. Ever since then, conservative politicians have put those petition signers in a database in order to seek retribution at the right time.
