In the first few years of Corky and I, when we got married, our marriage, I was a fourth grade school teacher up in Green Bay, North of Green Bay, actually in Swamico, fourth grade.
We lived in a tiny one bedroom apartment upstairs in a four apartment unit, not far from school, cost us $75 a month for rent.
Across the hall from upstairs was an elderly couple.
They never had any children.
And one year I asked them, because we tried to always have them included with Jennifer, our baby daughter at that time, and Cork and I, we'd always try to have them included in some of the events that we celebrated.
One year I got the nerve to ask them, do you ever miss not ever having children?
And they both agreed they did.
I said, why was that?
Is it because you couldn't have children?
She said, no, we were just too selfish.
We just didn't want to take the time to raise another person.
But boy, we sure miss having grandkids now.
I says, guess what?
You can adopt us.
But I tell you, to all you parents and grandparents that have given sacrifices to your family and your kids, you know, like, allowing your son to use a family car for his very first date or take to pick up in the town to go to a dance at school.
You know, this show is dedicated to all you folks, your parents, all you dads and grandparents that have given up something.
