literally army crawled, having to try to save her own life.
An attorney representing the 99 year old woman who was beaten inside of a Milwaukee home provided the first update on her condition since that attack.
It is brutal.
It's the same case that led to an investigation at the city's Department of Emergency Communications over the handling of the 911 calls in this case.
Sam Cramer is here with what we learned today, Sam, and what we still don't
know.
Hello, Ben and Mary.
Attorney Chris McGillis identified the woman only by her first name, which is Shirley.
He provided photos showing the extent of her injuries and we want to
warn you they are graphic.
Some of you may find them disturbing.
We're going to show them to you in about 30 seconds so you can understand the severity of what happened.
But first, here's Miguel is talking about the life she lived beforehand.
99 but vibrant love life was living independently was fiercely independent was still living at home and enjoyed her freedom.
enjoyed her mobility, enjoyed her ability to live.
And now we're left dealing with the tragedy that we find ourselves in.
This is what Shirley looks like before that attack.
McGillis says,
These photos were taken shortly after Shirley was beaten by a drunk man on July 27th.
He says she suffered facial fractures, blunt force trauma, and cuts so severe she needed more than 100 stitches and underwent several surgeries.
She spent about nine days in the hospital.
Meghila says Shirley is now limited to a wheelchair and receiving treatment.
at an acute rehab center.
The family does believe she may need long-term care as well.
Now, as for the investigation, the law firm says it too is waiting for information from the city's Department of Emergency Communications.
The department planned to release details at a press conference it called a week ago, but didn't because of open records laws that give the employees involved the right to respond.
We know two call takers that took the first two 911 calls resigned in lieu of termination.
Right now, McGillis isn't saying what legal action Shirley's family will take, but he does say
believe there's enough for a federal claim here.
We want to get access to information, so we want transparency.
We want to see the investigative file from the city.
We want to have a conversation with the city, but we want to make sure that the city is accepting responsibility and acknowledging what has happened here.
They reached out to the mayor's office city attorney the DEC and Alders for reaction tonight a mayor spokesman sent us this statement calling the attack horrific and said our thoughts go out to the victim now with a lawsuit likely coming and the city attorney also being involved now city officials they aren't saying much else we do know the police and fire the fire and police commission will hear an update from the DEC on its investigation tomorrow but that update will come in executive session which is closed to the public

This is a situation when you get with older people like that.
their whole personality change she'll never be probably and she's 99 right so she's never going to be I mean she was doing well enough at 99 to be in her house by herself
very few people once people hit the age of 70 75 in there in that range you know they pretty much they start that's when they usually slow down with the driving thing you know all all of that kind of stuff
But to be at home by yourself and be able to live in your own place at 99, she was doing a lot and very well.
And so this may totally change her personality.

They never do nothing your toys are us adult.

of those people for the rest of their life, they're going to have issues that they never had before because of where they got shot because of the fact that it might still be led in their body.

Or, of course, they do well.
But some of those schools that you would think would be on this list are not on the list.
First of all, I want to let you know that Wisconsin has long taken pride in its public schools, except for Milwaukee.
Oh, anyway.
And the latest numbers give the state something to celebrate.
Wisconsin's high school graduation rate has climbed to a record 91.1%, which is very good.
It's best mark since the state began tracking the four year figure since 2009 and comfortably above the national average.
Now these schools were judged on several different things.
Okay.
College readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, college curriculum breadth, and underserved student performance and graduation rate.
Okay.
And so, without further ado, coming in at number 10.
Milwaukee's Reagan Preparatory High School.
That's good.
At number nine, from Brookfield, Brookfield East High School.
At number, oh, where's number eight?
Number eight, Middleton High School in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Where is Middleton?
Number six, Eisenhower Middle Slash High School in New Berlin.
Number five, Homestead High School in Mequon.
Number four Cedarburg High School in Cedarburg ranked it number two High School of Health and Sciences in Wales, Wisconsin And coming in at number one Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay.

The Mechwan Thamesville District's Lone High School ranked number 353 nationally with a 98.03 score, blacking a 98% graduation rate with 70% AP participation and steady proficiency across all three tested subjects.
Number four, Cedarburg High School in Cedarburg ranked number 236 nationally with a 98.69 score.
Cedarburg sent 79% of seniors into AP exams, graduated 97% and posted strong core numbers, including 81% in math and 84% in reading proficiency.

A small charter of fewer than 100 students and number one in the Appleton Metro little shoot ranked number 166 nationally with 99.08 score.
It earned the state's top graduation ranking with a perfect 100% rate.

This Kettleman rain charter ranked number 129 nationally with a 99.28 score and led all of Wisconsin and college curriculum, uh, breaded.
It hit 92% reading and 84% science proficiency and graduated 98% of its students.
Number one school, Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin's best high school ranked number 103 in the entire country with a 99.43 score and graduated 100% of its students.
It topped the state in assessment proficiency.
It sent 85% of seniors into AP exams and cleared 82% or better proficiency in math, reading, and science, the most complete report card in the state.

I just wanted to throw a little knowledge out there, because remember I told you, my kids that grew up in Burlington, Wisconsin, Tony Romo Town on the other side of the way soon.
And don't believe the hype when it comes to going to five of schools because
They was able to eat whatever they want from a 30 to 40 minute menu anytime they want.
And they run it was a soft football player.
So he can go to the gym anytime he want.
So there's a lot of advantages that private schools have.
I know a lot of people can afford to send their kids.
I played my kids mom to stay at home to raise my kids until they were scrubbed.
It was allowed to go to private school.
And it's a big advantage because she can sit in the classroom every single day and make sure that her kids are learning what they need to learn.
So it's a big advantage.
I understand that they said the climate's rising in their schools.
But what they schools call a client, may you align with that.

Laurent Taylor said guess what there are so many black families in the Nicolet school district There is no 220 program anymore Nicolet 86 so many parents won't let their children but fail so they move those Move to those districts.
their own parents are not able to tutor them at home.
And these parents rely on score itself, but learning takes place at home too.

story at nine chaos and a request for backup new video shows the mayhem that unfolded on the last day of the Wisconsin State Fair
one officer was injured seven people were arrested Christina van Zals is here in the studio because I know you got your hands on this new video Christina
yeah then we filed an open records request with the West Alice Police Department after multiple fights broke out on the last day of the Wisconsin State Fair this is body camera footage from some of the West Alice police officers who responded
People running, tasers deployed and punches flying.
It
was a violent closing night at the Wisconsin State Fair.
Cell phone video showed the chaos.
Now we're seeing West Alice police body cam.
State Fair police said one officer was injured and seven people were arrested.
State Fair officials say unauthorized people were trying to get into the fair and there was enhanced security and law enforcement resources in place throughout the fair.
Video shows an officer carrying a child away from the fights.
State Fair police say it was a member of their security team who was injured during one of those incidents, but they did not release the extent of their injuries.

And it was some out there younger than that.
That when we showed the clips initially from people's social media pages, like they were younger than that.

And at this point, you should know what to put on or what not to put on.
You should also know that, listen, people have their own cameras.
So watch, always watch what you do.

Get your kids.

We're trying to explain to them.
Organizations are trying to say, look, bro, you're going to get yourself locked up.

First of all, I want to let you know that Wisconsin has long taken pride in its public schools, except for Milwaukee.
Oh, anyway.
And the latest numbers give the state something to celebrate.
Wisconsin's high school graduation rate has climbed to a record 91.1%, which is very good.
It's best mark since the state began tracking the four year figure since 2009 and comfortably above the national average.
Now these schools were judged on several different things.
Okay.
College readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, college curriculum breadth, and underserved student performance and graduation rate.
Okay.
And so, without further ado, coming in at number 10.
Milwaukee's Reagan Preparatory High School.
That's good.
At number nine, from Brookfield, Brookfield East High School.
At number, oh, where's number eight?
Number eight, Middleton High School in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Where is Middleton?
Number six, Eisenhower Middle Slash High School in New Berlin.
Number five, Homestead High School in Mequon.
Number four Cedarburg High School in Cedarburg ranked it number two High School of Health and Sciences in Wales, Wisconsin And coming in at number one Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay.

number six Eisenhower middle slash high school in New Berlin serving grades 7th through 12th Eisenhower ranked number 357 nationally with a 98 point
Zero one score combining a 75% AP participation rate with a 98% graduation rate number five homestead high school in Mequon
The Mechwan Thamesville District's Lone High School ranked number 353 nationally with a 98.03 score, blacking a 98% graduation rate with 70% AP participation and steady proficiency across all three tested subjects.
Number four, Cedarburg High School in Cedarburg ranked number 236 nationally with a 98.69 score.
Cedarburg sent 79% of seniors into AP exams, graduated 97% and posted strong core numbers, including 81% in math and 84% in reading proficiency.

A small charter of fewer than 100 students and number one in the Appleton Metro little shoot ranked number 166 nationally with 99.08 score.
It earned the state's top graduation ranking with a perfect 100% rate.

This Kettleman rain charter ranked number 129 nationally with a 99.28 score and led all of Wisconsin and college curriculum, uh, breaded.
It hit 92% reading and 84% science proficiency and graduated 98% of its students.
Number one school, Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin's best high school ranked number 103 in the entire country with a 99.43 score and graduated 100% of its students.
It topped the state in assessment proficiency.
It sent 85% of seniors into AP exams and cleared 82% or better proficiency in math, reading, and science, the most complete report card in the state.

I just wanted to throw a little knowledge out there, because remember I told you, my kids that grew up in Burlington, Wisconsin, Tony Romo Town on the other side of the way soon.
And don't believe the hype when it comes to going to five of schools because
They was able to eat whatever they want from a 30 to 40 minute menu anytime they want.
And they run it was a soft football player.
So he can go to the gym anytime he want.
So there's a lot of advantages that private schools have.
I know a lot of people can afford to send their kids.
I played my kids mom to stay at home to raise my kids until they were scrubbed.
It was allowed to go to private school.
And it's a big advantage because she can sit in the classroom every single day and make sure that her kids are learning what they need to learn.
So it's a big advantage.
I understand that they said the climate's rising in their schools.
But what they schools call a client, may you align with that.
I want to thank you guys for the great work you guys are doing.

You know, there's a lot more things that kids that have more money have at their fingertips.

I had to take my child out of Keith Avenue School.
There are so many and bus her and put miles on my vehicle to drive them to school.
But Homer and Miss Bailey Coleman, there are so many advantages
for
our for children period because you know, they're not going to let their kids not succeed.

But I'm going to tell you a lot of them one went to homestead.
One went to Bayside School District and Nicolette.
The racism is real.

They didn't want to see my babies out there, but it was too bad.
excellent education.
So maybe some of us need to move up to, what did you say, Fish Creek?

Laurent Taylor said guess what there are so many black families in the Nicolet school district There is no 220 program anymore Nicolet 86 so many parents won't let their children but fail so they move those Move to those districts.
their own parents are not able to tutor them at home.
And these parents rely on score itself, but learning takes place at home too.

story at nine chaos and a request for backup new video shows the mayhem that unfolded on the last day of the Wisconsin State Fair
one officer was injured seven people were arrested Christina van Zals is here in the studio because I know you got your hands on this new video Christina
yeah then we filed an open records request with the West Alice Police Department after multiple fights broke out on the last day of the Wisconsin State Fair this is body camera footage from some of the West Alice police officers who responded
People running, tasers deployed and punches flying.
It
was a violent closing night at the Wisconsin State Fair.
Cell phone video showed the chaos.
Now we're seeing West Alice police body cam.
State Fair police said one officer was injured and seven people were arrested.
State Fair officials say unauthorized people were trying to get into the fair and there was enhanced security and law enforcement resources in place throughout the fair.
Video shows an officer carrying a child away from the fights.
State Fair police say it was a member of their security team who was injured during one of those incidents, but they did not release the extent of their injuries.

But we don't we also don't have to put our stuff out there like on social media like we do, right?
Because a lot of these things would never be known if we didn't go ahead and put our stuff out there ourselves,

Y'all should at this point, it's been around a long time.
And at this point, you should know what to put on or what not to put on.
You should also know that, listen, people have their own cameras.
So watch, always watch what you do.

Get your kids.

We're trying to explain to them.
Organizations are trying to say, look, bro, you're going to get yourself locked up.

We're hoping that he's not one of the ones that succumbed to their injuries at that particular accident.
But two people did die from that accident.
