Closing Businesses

Truth in The Morning · Mon Aug 31, 2026

If you were supposed to be at work at 8

a.m.

You're late!

And I'm co-signed by nurse Arya Kawanda whether she's in the home room or not.

Yeah, we already know you're late.

So welcome, Black.

The truth of the morning.

I'm the legendary Homer Blow along with my girl

Bailey Coleman

talking about these businesses that have been closing on Water Street and, you know,

other areas downtown.

And why is that?

Why do you think that is?

And what were the options, Bailey?

On the poll, the options are violence, poor economy, or both.

And what are we looking at?

What are people right now?

Violence is coming in second place.

at 33%.

0% for poor economy.

And both is at 67%.

All right.

So yeah, I'm with the both.

I said both for me.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But poor economy solo ain't nobody really.

So people haven't had money.

They just ain't going.

But they saying it's both.

So that's why they taking the money because they got it.

Right.

They ain't going because of that.

And unfortunately, I get it and understand.

I get it and I understand.

But, you know, when I was speaking about gas stations and we got a lot of action here.

I think it's

violence.

I think it's violence.

Oh, you think it's just violence?

I

think it's just violence.

OK, because we done been through a recession and all kinds of stuff.

Yeah.

Well,

and.

They ain't closed down.

Well,

the pandemic.

Yeah.

Well, I would think, yeah, pandemic definitely hurt a lot of businesses.

Yeah.

But here's, here's where I'm going, where I'm saying, in my opinion, both.

Because if you know about anywhere you go, whatever state you go to, city you go to, if you're going downtown, it's going to cause you extra.

Usually.

And when, so when we're talking about people who are counting the chips and the kibbles and bits, it's like, you know what?

as much as I love this restaurant or as much as I love going to this place.

Yeah.

Right about now I got to make some decisions and my decision is I need to use this money to take care of some other things and I can't go down here or afford to enjoy myself right now.

Right.

Not there.

You

know what I'm saying?

And then when you got those people who like to end up treating everybody.

You know, when they go, be like, come on, yo, I got the tab.

Yeah, that tab looks like a serious mountain.

In this economy, in this economy.

So that's why I put it as both for me.

OK, on the two talk, text on Laurent Taylor.

I'm

sorry, on the truth

on the YouTube.

I'm used to saying that my back, but you can't call it eight, three, three, two or two, ten, seventy on the YouTube chat.

The Laurent Taylor says that the demographic that goes to Water Street and Brady Street are not affected by this economy.

I you know what?

Here's why I don't agree with that because I think the demographic has changed of people that have been coming or that come to downtown.

I think it's been a recent change because I think the people.

that used to come down here three or four years ago and kick it on water street and do all the things.

I believe that that's all changed.

OK.

And I don't I just to be honest with you with the information of the different things violence that has occurred down here.

Now it used to be just in the.

sort of eastern sector, right?

It used to be just down there.

Right.

But with it flowing all the way down the street and people because we used to run, be all intoxicated, Caucasian folk down here hanging out and all that kind of stuff.

I feel like a lot of them don't feel like it's safe anymore to do that.

And and with that, I feel like

You know, it's just change.

I mean used to have a lot of really swank restaurants down here, right on Water Street doing their thing and I just feel like they just you know

Yeah, well, you know and and it again downtown wherever you go.

It's going to cost you more.

You know what I'm saying?

So you can go on the outskirts and all of that be like, okay, I can

go here with that same amount of money.

Right.

And leave with some money.

Right.

You know what I'm

saying?

Very

true.

So but when you're down there, it costs because it's actually costing those businesses that are downtown in whatever major city to be down there.

It's a cost.

Yeah.

And so that's why in my opinion, where you're saying we're talking about the blue building across the street, it's like.

No, I

mean I

was

really just talking about that cuz you know really if it's housing down here Especially in this area.

I just don't think that I just don't I think don't think that Housing is you know, I don't think it's the best thing whether it's

Upscale housing or not.

I just in this area you would think that there would be just more business business, right?

But with regard to the changes of the clientele downtown I think you know when you think about that you have to think about some of the other things like the takeovers and things that were happening

downtown

Last year and then finding out that okay.

We don't have enough police,

right?

you know, to cover the entire city and so downtown, you know, so with that having been less prior, I'm not saying it's less prior, but you understand what I'm saying, you know, that it becomes, you know, more people go, wait, man, there ain't nobody down there.

So I can't go down there and just do what I want to do and be intoxicated and walk up and down the streets of the different bars and

stuff.

And when that happens, then people just gravitate towards areas they could do that in and feel okay.

Yeah.

You know, and, uh, one of the things that I was going to bring up about, like me saying how I feel about gas stations, uh, in certain areas, uh, that are within my community, right?

Right.

Right.

Gotcha.

Here's, here's, uh, here's the thing.

And I want anybody else from troop nation.

to tell me if they can attest to this as well.

Since most of the gas stations predominantly all of the gas stations except a few, when they were black owned and operated, I didn't have that same fear.

Really?

No, because

then, but now, like I say, it's dominated.

So you got, you know, it's dominated by foreigners that own these gas stations,

right?

They the only one want to deal with your people.

Well, no, listen, listen, you know, seeing how many people they don't beat the hell down to some of these gas stations.

I'm talking about overkill for real.

I get it.

You know, they may have tried to steal something, but that's what we have law enforcement for.

Call the police, keep your damn hands off of people.

because then when them people put their hands black on you, then it's a problem.

So I'm just saying, uh, I understand, you know, the, the challenges, let me call it that the challenges that, but if you cannot, uh, stand the heat and you say, get your ass out of the kitchen.

So don't come in our community in my opinion and treat us like.

dogs, sugar, honey, ice, tea.

But if we did it to yo people and the other people that are doing that, then we would be considered wrong and we would be charged with hate crimes and things of that nature.

You got to do unto others as you want others to be able to do unto you.

Like I say, in this climate, do we have some challenges going on?

Yes.

Have we showed the videos of how some of these youth and toys or us adults are terrorizing these people?

Yes.

But if you can no longer handle that, do just like a low country, do like whatever the KC is and move around because there are other people that, in my opinion, get attacked because the stigma that has been put out there.

Now that's

true.

So, you know, they, they weren't coming in there on that.

But now you've gotten used to talking to everybody a certain way and disrespectful and act like it's not disrespectful.

It is.

And some people such as myself would not come in and tolerate that kind of disrespect.

Not at all.

Not at all.

But like I say, I noticed that we don't have the people owning these gas stations that the communities respect in that way.

You

know

what I'm saying?

That's why I say when they were black on, in my opinion, and operated, the community knew.

It was the neighborhood, it was the neighborhood grocery store.

So we knew who owned that.

If you lived on and grew up on 27th Street or anywhere near it, I was on 27th, the locus,

a

part of my upbringing.

Ellis Grocery.

We knew it was Ellis Grocery, black owned and operated.

When I was on 14th of Keith, the malt shop.

wait to prep.

You feel what I'm saying?

Yeah.

Ballots, you know, we, we, we knew the families and we knew that there would be a phone call made if you walked your ass in that store and start acting up.

Yeah.

Before you got black home, the call was going to be made to your mother or your father or your grandparents or whoever your guardian may have been saying they came in here trying to steal something.

They came in here talking loud or doing whatever and you got checked.

You were able to get checked at the, at the store, at the gas station, or, and when you got home, you damn sure no one was going to get checked.

Right.

You feel what I'm saying?

So, but we don't have those things like that anymore.

And we have so many people that don't even appear like they want to go black to having it that way.

Because when you do have black on and operated businesses that open up in some of these situations, they get treated with so much disrespect.

Uh, and, and I'm saying from some of the customers as well as their employees, you don't get to bring your problem to work with you.

You don't, you call in and say, I can't come in today because I'm ticked off at the damn world.

Uh, somebody made me mad.

Uh, the baby said, you know, that should not be the job that hires you's fault.

that you're dealing with these situations.

That's true.

But you owe them the respect as your employer to say, hey, look, and you knew you didn't have a babysitter before you were supposed to come in for your damn shift, but you're going to wait until, you know, well, because my cousin was supposed to, and then they didn't.

Now they got to deal with, no, that ain't how it worked.

So because of those different parameters that have changed, in my opinion, is created a distrust in us supporting us.

Because sometimes you go in there and people that may own the business feel entitled and instead of giving you the respect of a patron, a customer.

Well, you know, when you go back to employees, that's on the business owner to find the right employees.

They try.

And I know, and you never know who you're going to get when you get them.

But you also have to not be afraid to move forward.

Yeah.

If they're not working out, they got to go.

And but then the thing happens and this is where I'm saying the problem is and we got to get ready to take care of some bills.

But here's where the problem continues.

Now you got that business and you hired employees so you wouldn't have to be there all damn day.

You may have other businesses that you need to tend to or whatever it is.

But now you got to be the one near.

if you want your store to open up on time, if you want your business to open up on time, if you want the cooks to be there on time, you got to go do it.

So now that puts a strain on you.

And then you have to start making some real life decisions.

How much longer can I afford to try to do this?

And then it's going to take away from this.

And my sole reason for doing it was because I wanted to employ some people that I thought would understand the policies and the level.

of what we feel our patrons and supporters deserve.

We gotta get ready, take care of some bills, we'll come back and talk more about it.

Yeah,

we'll talk more about it, I got some comments

on that.

833-212-1017 will be

black.

We're broadcasting live from the American Family Insurance Studio in the heart of downtown at the Avenue.

And we have been talking about some of the businesses closing and also before we went to break.

I was talking about the fact that, unfortunately, some of the black-owned businesses that

try to open up and hope to get the support of the community.

Yes.

May not get it.

And it's not all because that everybody is doing bad business.

Right.

So we know that some it

is.

It's

bad business.

It's like, okay, you expect me to come and shop with you and support you and all of that, but you don't have any professional etiquette about yourself.

And I'm not going to spend my dollar with you just because you black.

And that's what some people, in my opinion, have an ego that they believe that regardless of how they end up treating you, that you're going to just go and, you're supposed to just go and steal support.

I'm not doing that.

That's even with elected officials.

I'm not just doing it just because they're black.

I'm looking at everything that comes along with that.

What is your stance?

What is your platform?

What are the things that you're talking about doing?

If they align with what I'm thinking about and how I feel, then that's where I'm going to end up putting my support.

So,

you know, some people get caught up and I know that there are some people that they don't care as long as they black.

I'm voting for them or whatever.

No, no, no,

no,

no, no.

Just because because everybody think about some of the black Republicans that are cool with all of the stuff that the orange man is doing and they stand in 10 toes down.

You know so but Bailey as I was Giving my truth Before we went to break you were you had some things that you wanted to Say as it relates to your truth in your opinion on some of those things

Yeah, you know what I just feel like when you're you're going into business These are all things that you have to take into account and unfortunately with regard to employees and unfortunately

Because I'm one of those people for the last however many years I've been in the workforce.

I've been in the position of hiring people.

And I go through quite a bit before I'm gonna hire somebody.

And some people make it through and some people don't.

I want the ones that are down for me and really want to be on my team and really want to work hard because that's how I get

down.

You

know, and if they're not, then they're going to weed themselves out.

You ain't even got to do anything.

But the thing is, as a business owner or manager, you have to be prepared for that too.

Right?

So those are all things that you have to prepare for when you go into business or when you become a member of management and someone that hires people because you want people.

That want to be on your team.

And if you don't want to be on my team and do roll how I roll because every manager is different.

That's right.

Then, you know, that's it.

That's it.

This ain't the

spot.

The Joe spot is down there.

The spot may be down the street.

Yep.

You know, no harm, no foul.

But, you know, it's called business for a reason.

Yeah, absolutely.

And some people just try to keep the friendship in there and act like they're supposed to circumvent the business.

You get what I'm saying?

Like, no, this is business.

So yes, I'm going to have to make some choices and some decisions that you may not be comfortable

with.

Now, it doesn't mean that when we're not on the clock that we can't end up going out and enjoying a meal somewhere or just go to hang out to watch a game or something like that.

But that's the friendship side.

Too many people, in my opinion, don't like

to separate the two.

Right.

And you have to, in my opinion, you got to respect both.

You got to respect just because your cousin is the manager here, this and the other.

And so many people, I know that abuse that the cousin may say, well, you know, if you, you know, I got you and come with three other goddamn people.

And it's like, yeah, see this one could be like, okay, you know, I got you, right?

Yeah, but but they with me Well, they gonna patronize the business or whatever it is, right?

You thought I was gonna sit here and feed now.

Yeah, that's not what I'm doing I said I got you right you is singular.

Yeah,

I say you and your people,

right?

I say you right

So, uh, but yeah, it's those type of things that then make people try to go and man, yeah, you, you, you cousin, man, they end up getting a little, uh, position and now all of a sudden they act like they don't know a person.

Yeah.

Stop lying.

Yeah.

You know why it went the way that went.

Stop it.

Stop it.

Yeah,

but they want to make you the villain and the bad guy.

But when you're a real business person and you really business minded, you give a damn if they want to call it so making you the bad guy because you know, you standing on business and you know that you've been blessed to be in business for a long time because you know how to separate the two.

Yeah, you got it.

Yeah.

Mm hmm.

They're like, yep.

You still my person.

You don't understand.

But now if you don't want to be.

Because of business.

Okay.

I get that.

Yeah.

And we can make it what it is.

Yeah.

So either you're gonna just you'll just have a business relationship with me.

That's

it.

That's

all.

That's it.

You know, and I tell people all the time, the most important thing in a relationship, business, friends or whatever, it's communication.

Yeah.

Because if you don't know how to communicate, you're gonna have some misunderstandings.

I didn't know this.

I know.

Yeah.

Well, did you

Communicate right with the person right?

No, but they have said stop even though where you talk they have said stop Stop and you want me to elevate you up into a higher position right and you gonna say they have said stop That is not my representation That is not the representation I want for my business or my company that part but they had said Can I help you the hell is help you?

What the hell has helped you?

Why are you patting your head like this?

Uh-uh.

May I help you?

What the hell?

Like, stop.

Stop.

We ain't doing that.

We not doing that.

Yeah, yeah.

You're in the wrong job field.

You're gonna be doing this.

You should be downtown.

downtown doing what?

I ain't gonna say it.

You ain't not, you not gonna get me in

trouble.

Okay,

okay,

but you want to do this is remember what I'm doing Some of y'all get it.

I'm just saying

But I'm keeping it real to the next level.

Let's get it.

Let's get it update.

Update on the poll.

Why?

Why do you think businesses are closing on Water Street?

Right now, 41% of violence, poor economy, 0% and 59% with both.

There

you

go.

Mm hmm.

So Bailey, in in where we are now, would you open up a business on Water Street?

Well, it's probably a good time to do that.

Order in the studio.

I'm just saying.

No, OK, this is a good time.

Hey, listen, opportunities is really like, you know what?

Let us go slide some oil to me because you might get a good deal too.

You might.

Because we need more people.

Exactly.

Yeah.

Exactly.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Damn.

Bailey said it might be.

Bailey Coleman

yep you know after

You know, I had all kind of corn stuff and then I had the foodie MK foodie fest right now because of so will be just perfect now.

You know what I'm

saying?

Because

I didn't have, you know, all of the foods that I could have from the vending trucks and I'm a corn, you know, I'm a cornologist.

So I haven't had any

corn this summer.

Yeah, you've been missing out.

You got to come to these community events.

Well, you

know what?

It's free.

I usually will go.

get some corn either it's one or the other usually either summer fest or um bestial days

they have

people

That's

why you gotta come to the school festival.

That's why you gotta come to the MPD National Night Outs.

That's why you gotta come to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office National Night Out.

I mean they done for the year though.

No, I'm good.

I'm

going.

No, I'm I'm going and hopefully Miss Farina.

who

I love.

Yes, we'll have some corn.

That you can make yourself.

At Rock the Block.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Because I had none.

And you know, I'm going to Rock the Block.

Yeah.

I try to show up and represent, you know.

What hold on

I'm trying to figure out where you're going.

Okay, but The reality is pretty much all of the events that I've been to to support or may have been involved in had free Free corn.

Yeah, roasted corn.

Yep So, yeah yesterday it was over 600 years of corn it was out there that Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr.

Had

Uh-huh.

Second district.

Oh, the person.

Yeah.

And it was all free.

Free?

Wow.

The MPD ice cream truck was out there free ice cream.

Free ice cream.

Yeah, all the stuff they do is free.

You know, they make sure that the community is the winner in it all, you know, so from national nightouts with MPD districts, you know, 75 that I was a part of.

And then of course,

the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office with Sheriff Dr. Danita R. Ball.

Yeah, like, yeah, the corn is free, like at all of these different events, some of the block events, some of the black to school giveaways.

Yeah, corn was usually

free.

And I indulged in it very well.

And I got to get my clubs up.

I got to get my clubs up now.

Light onions.

Yeah, zero.

There are onions.

Broccoli and cheese.

Ain't nobody doing

it.

Soup.

Oh, I love soup.

Ain't nobody doing it on yourself.

Strawberry.

Shake.

Mmm.

Yeah.

Mmm.

All right.

So we're going black to talking about these businesses, right?

And they're shutting down.

And.

When you when we talk about the violence, Bailey, who do you think is attributing?

to the violence.

Is that a trick question?

Okay, what's the final numbers on that?

You gave the final numbers on that poll, right?

Okay, wait

a minute.

Okay.

Yeah.

Okay.

Look, we got an entry.

Okay.

For poor economy.

Oh, yeah.

3%.

All right.

All right.

Violence.

Oh, by the way, the question.

Why do you think the businesses are closing on Water Street?

41% violence, 3% poor economy and 56% both.

All right.

So there it

is.

So Bailey, if you could come up with, uh, the way that this next poll would be worded, uh, what would you say?

Um, my thing is in your opinion, true patient, who do you think is creating the violence?

Can you?

I don't even need to look at Bailey.

I'm looking at my camera because I look at Bailey.

I will not be able to contain myself because the truth.

The truth will show on my face like it's showing on your face.

What is the truth?

I'm going to ask you to ask the true

nation.

Who do you can?

Should we ask a poll like that?

Who do you think is contributing?

Well, let's

do it by age.

You don't want to do it by age.

Well, I mean if you choose to I just say who do you think in your opinion?

Well, who you gonna put down there?

And that's what I'm asking you.

I told you please create the poll.

Let's do it by age.

Let's do it by age.

Cause you got.

Get the side eye, but you asked me

and I'm gonna let you do it, but really

What do you wanna put

down

Homer I just want you

to call

me

and give their truth 833 to 1 to 17

Xavier you're gonna do the poll

You're gonna put you're gonna cancel from our producer.

I'm asking him this your poll

No, I said you can end

up really

give me all the looks Listen, are you afraid to say the pole?

I'm not I'm just saying

listen what a two-nation A folk starting to ask which which is their favorite restaurant

It's such a touch closing around and such that are you kidding me?

Wait a minute.

Let's see.

We'll denies that the people who don't have money and shouldn't be shouldn't be are the ones are causing these businesses to close down shop.

The people who don't have money.

Let's be realistic.

I mean, you know, here's a here's an analogy.

One of the reasons that I try to avoid driving on the north side is that usually the people that are riding down the street with their cars all jacked up are the ones that don't have any insurance.

They don't have any insurance and their cars are jacked up because they don't care.

They be bumping into people in all kinds of stuff.

Did you?

Am I lying?

Am I lying?

No.

It's

not everybody.

That's

why I try to avoid.

I mean, I ain't go a lot.

Listen, I do, I do that on the south side too, though.

If you don't look like you've got no car insurance, I try to get on the far side of the south side.

I'm just real.

I'm just real.

Hey, no, Mr. I can't stop at no gas stations on the north side.

I didn't say none on the north side.

I'm selective

selective,

which I started some and there are more to go on

that.

Yes.

There are more on the list.

Yeah.

Uh, 27th and right.

Uh, Lisbon for damn show.

Uh, 27.

I

don't think I know none on Lisbon that I was shot

back.

Yeah, I wouldn't.

No, I wouldn't shop at the one on twenty-seven.

I'll

stop it.

I'll stop on capital.

Twenty-seven capital and

twenty-four.

I wouldn't stop on twenty-seven.

I wouldn't stop on any of the ones all the way up to

what

it would be.

40th anything there and then.

Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

I forgot, you know, you turn down and see it on.

Yeah, you leave it all straight.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

No, I'm thinking going up because the one that even I won't even go to the one and this always amazed me and it it baffled me.

I'm shocked.

OK.

that I won't go to the one right across the street from the third district on Lisbon.

I stopped in no place over there.

If I roll through that.

I have to.

I'm just sitting around.

It's, you know, I ain't stopping over there.

Man, come on out.

Really?

Okay.

But yeah

Listen Aaron Aaron is him said man.

I've been trying to disagree with Bailey, but I can't find the line There it is No lies detected I ain't stopping my doors is locked on cur Don't come up to me with your cup trying to get you know Don't ask me if I want to buy no water.

I love all the children

But I ain't finna roll down the window and then it just you know, it's a whole situation Being a single female is hard out here.

It's hard out here for a pimp, you know

That

you can't be out here just doing whatever you got to you know You got to watch

I know Bailey

and if you go in them areas before you get there lock your doors You can't do it.

You ever I remember one time

My car stopped over there.

My car stopped over there.

It's off of Lisbon.

You sound terrified.

I

was.

I locked my doors.

I called my, I called like five people on my team.

I like, somebody got to come get me.

They all pulled up on me.

Okay.

Okay.

Wait, hold on.

Did you call?

You know, so yeah.

20th and center.

Yeah.

No, you will be over.

Yo, I'll be over

to Tonya.

Hey You don't want

to

be

over

Felix said there is one gas station is black owned on the north side BP gas station.

I go there.

Yeah, I go there.

I'll go

there.

If

I'm in if I'm in that area,

yeah,

I will go there.

Yeah, I

have I have patronized that business.

Mm hmm.

Yeah, but that yeah.

So I can't can't even do it.

Can't even do it.

We got to listen.

True days.

We got to take you to be

quick when you pull up.

Take care of some bills.

You're listening to the truth in the morning show.

I am the legendary Homer blow along with my girl

Bailey.

I get gas in the hood.

Kobe

Bailey.

I won't get gas in the hood.

Come on.

No, I will just

on.

Okay.

Let me look at that for you from inside the gas station.

It's all good.

You just pull up, get your wave, get your gas and keep it pushing.

Okay.

We'll come back to finish up the show.

We'll be black.

Truth in the Morning returns after this on 1017 The Truth.

They

tired of you.

They tired of you and yours.

They tired of you and yours.

No, no, the majority said both.

Listen,

the majority said both.

But nobody just said it was just for economy.

They said it's both.

Let me tell you

something.

And then we both

know you and I both know what the deal is.

Yeah,

it might be a little bit of the poor economy.

But like I think it was Aaron.

It said that, uh, you know, a lot of these people, it ain't the economy situation, but some people, yes, but for the most part it's, it's really about them having control or what they feel is enough control in downtown Milwaukee.

And I think one of the things you're going to start seeing is, you know how they did it during the Republican convention.

We talked about this.

They don't have to do something down here.

And this I know I just read abstract newer for one for its comment.

What do you say?

You guys like the poll that we would have, okay?

He dares.

I dare you all.

Black people.

Order on the YouTube.

It would

have

probably been close to a hundred

percent

We're doing truth in the morning.

We're doing truth in the morning.

They tired of y'all.

Hell, some of us are tired of

me.

No, we tired

of us.

Y'all be like, grand open.

We celebrating and then grand closing because y'all don't shut it down.

Literally.

Headlines be, they just shot already down there.

You know what I'm saying?

It's like, and

you know.

And you know, all of this is really sad.

You know what?

I got a feeling it's gonna get a little bit worse downtown.

You know why?

Why?

Because the bucks I got, who on the bucks?

Y'all listen to him go.

So who on the bucks?

Who?

There ain't one person.

No,

no, don't even know him.

Bailey.

Y'all listen.

Yanis and all of them gone.

Ain't even one left.

The people we knew, the people we knew was gone.

Middleton even gone.

We don't even know nobody over.

It's because you're not a sports enthusiast.

So you said, even though you not, you knew Yanis, you knew.

I knew I

knew they family I

had to stand where you come around

I knew

some of the

other players But they systematically got rid of everybody they

was dame time.

Yeah, you know,

yeah And he wasn't there that long But listen They got rid of everybody so who's on the team now?

Ain't

there ain't even nobody on the mural no more all the people down do they paint over the mural yet?

I

Can't with you this

We just have fun y'all hey, we just have a little fun Cuz the business is closing down here.

We can cry we can laugh.

Yeah.

Yeah

And that's that's a sad truth.

Yes.

That is a sad truth.

The reality of it all.

You know what's crazy?

I remember this Third Street Market Hall used to be the Grand Avenue Mall.

You remember

that?

Correct.

And it was going down hill and people didn't know and it's bad and what we're going to do and all that.

And these folks here, I don't know who did it.

But they were smart enough to come down here with a plan that worked to revitalize this area.

And you know what?

It helped revitalize a lot of different, you know, spaces down here, downtown.

So with these restaurants and stuff leaving, the only one I'm not out really about is silk.

I mean, that's just my opinion.

But I know some other people.

Yeah, Sherwin, he was probably going to disagree with you on that.

Are you saddened that they're temporarily closed and what would you how would you feel?

You'd be like I got to go all the way around the corner now.

Yes.

Oh another silks literally two minute walk, right?

But so what are you saddened that you have to take that extra two minutes

walk?

Well, I never been to a strip club before but if I was

a patron, okay?

What was that?

Oh,

I just I support the strippers.

Yes.

Okay.

So but you never went to on the board.

Oh, no, no, I support the strippers.

Okay.

Okay.

Okay.

Okay.

Okay.

Because I thought for sure.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Pretty much you fought.

Yeah, you really

did.

Yeah, you fought.

You fought hard.

Yeah.

Yeah.

No pun intended.

That's you mentioned something on the radio.

I don't know how much hard I fought.

Well, now you kept saying like no, they should be open.

Yeah, they

should be

open.

That's fighting hard for a place that had prostitution sex trafficking the whole night.

And it was started from the manager.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So yeah, you fought pretty hard.

Pretty hard

for somebody.

So so you like you support the strippers, but you wouldn't go to the place of business to support them.

You'll support them on a more personal level.

Correct.

Yeah, I

support

them

financially though, right?

Well, I don't financially support them,

but so you don't tip the strippers that you like.

I don't go to the strip club.

So I could.

Okay.

That ain't the only place is strippers.

We're we're we're also

there.

Okay, you are all this photography that you do.

You ain't never had bachelor parties or anything like that.

Well,

why would

I?

I'll be there working.

No, I'm just saying so you never just went.

to a bachelor party without working?

You sound like you're lying.

You sound like you're lying.

You know I sometimes even hear some people that sound like they're about to lie and be like, you can stop right now.

You're about to lie.

Go on and give me

this.

I want to say what he

said.

What happened was

because I've actually never been to a strip club before.

But the crazy thing is I have hosted a party.

A strippers party?

Male strippers.

Yes.

I hosted it.

Yeah.

Yeah.

One time.

And never again.

Why not?

Because I had this thing and I have always had the I don't need nobody touch me.

Do not touch me.

Don't pick me up.

Don't nothing.

Nothing.

They picked you up.

Do pick me up.

I'm I'm getting picked up

and he's trying to put

his whole routine You know going on and I'm looking

at the

salesperson I'm blessing out the salesperson while he's doing this because I see her at the back and I see her talking to the promoter and she had her finger in his face and I had mine and I was just like yeah, uh-huh I Got one rule

I had one rule at the time.

Do not touch.

Don't

touch me.

Don't touch the host.

I got nothing to do with what y'all got going on.

All right.

Speaking of that, we got to get ready to roll the body here, baby.

Yeah, we do.

So yeah, that was a good

time in my life

are leaving downtown in from those who have participated in our true nation poll.

Yes.

Overwhelming percent say that it's violence.

and poor economy.

Yeah.

You know what?

It's just, you know, I think that there needs to be a plan for downtown.

Oh, it's going to be one.

Don't worry

about it.

Yeah.

It's coming.

I'm sure it is because people need to feel safe.

It's going to become a literal gated community.

Probably.

And if that's what it has to be.

Then that's what it has to be.

That's what it has to be.

Yeah.

Exactly.

They have it in other major cities.

Yeah.

Gated.

And that's what they go.

That's probably what they're gonna do.

All right, Bailey.

Trust God, do good, great things are gonna happen for you today.

All right.

And I'll

see you tomorrow.

Up next, the award-winning troupe with Sherwin Hughes from 9 a.m.

to noon, followed up by the lunch break with Ray Nitty and maybe Shannon with New Hours, noon to two.

He should be black.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Maybe Shannon held it down for

you.

And then of course, followed up to the Ford, a great vine with Ray Nitty doing extended time.

And then four to seven, we tapped in with my girl, Jazz Tyler.

Love you, babe.

Talk to my agent.

We have out of here.

Peace.

Thank you, Xavier.

Thanks, Xavier.

All right, we are black and that was just so perfect because you know, we're black.

I like how that goes.

We can keep there like, well, that was good.

I like

that.

I watch Welcome Black Carter.

Did you?

You ever see Welcome Black Carter?

I watched Welcome Back Carter.

Yes.

I watch Welcome Black.

Yeah, because I

like the black person.

Yeah, exactly.

Yeah.

It's

one.

I watch.

Yeah.

That's why I say I was Welcome Black.

You know, we got to stand together.

Who did John Travolta?

I think probably the only two left.

Yeah.

Yeah, because horse shack is going.

Yeah.

Yeah.

A couple of years, a few years ago, I think.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But we are black and we are talking about before we went to break.

We were talking about the closures of some Water Street staples that have

been.

You know what?

I think we're.

failing to realize that there's been a lot of.

Water Street businesses that have closed.

Yep.

Over the last.

A. J. A. J. Bombers.

A. J. Bombers gone.

Yep.

Can't sit in that chair and

and I mean you could argue that that was one of the places that made Milwaukee famous.

Yeah.

A. J. Bombers because they were on diners, whatever and whatever.

Mm hmm.

That food show.

A. J. Bombers was a fun spot too.

Yeah.

You know, the whole peanut thing and all that.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Y'all mess that up.

Well, they have one.

It's just not on water.

It's just not on water anymore.

Yeah.

Yeah.

You got to go up burly.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I'd be up that way sometime.

Yeah.

I mean, it's up

far enough.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I'm sure.

I'm sure.

Yeah.

But what?

What if it was all 60th?

No.

What it was on 35th

listen don't mess with me this morning.

I already told you we gonna have to move they put

See this is what I'm saying all my life I had to fight but so So with all of the the

putting housing in next

door Yeah, cross the street.

Yeah, literally like I can see it from here.

Yeah

You're

serious too, ain't you

what?

It's

bad for business

Okay, so okay,

let me really put you on the spot then okay, so oh Now you don't want it.

No.

Oh,

yeah, you kind of caught where I'm about to go Yeah, you don't want to step out there on that ledge

Uh, producer Xavier.

Oh,

do say Gabe Kaplan and Gabe Kaplan and his wife are still alive.

Okay.

Um,

Epstein down.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Which never mind.

I'm not even going to

talk about welcome back.

Okay.

Anyway, go ahead.

Xavier, you had a comment.

Oh, no, I was gonna say, I believe they already have public housing downtown anyway.

Mm-hmm, but

right

right across the street in the blue building.

Oh, that's

it.

Yeah,

see the other house

Already over there.

Oh, no, but why not people down here call the cops.

So So listen,

it's not that type of housing,

right?

So would you think that it would be a problem if some black

people laughing at me?

Okay, I believe it

was some black people moved in there.

Do you think it would

If it ended up being predominantly black people there,

okay, just say it.

Subsidized.

Oh, they already have subsidized housing.

Right.

I

know, I know, but I'm saying right across the street, because I think Bailey is alluding to if some of my cousins, because I can't deny any of the black people, whether I don't

approve of their

ignorance.

If I don't approve of that and all of those who are just being, you know, citizens and you know what I mean?

So.

Do you think it would be a problem?

Do you think we would see fights and something happening on the higher floor?

I mean, they wouldn't have to go anywhere.

Then it just be here.

I don't think

it'd be a problem like I'm listening to Black Fox News right now.

So.

Yeah,

well, I'm saying I'm saying that I don't have a problem Bailey's saying she is so that's black fox news to you Well, not you because I'm saying Bailey has an issue She said your cousin's gonna get in there and it's gonna be a problem.

No, no, it's gonna be my cousin.

It depends on how they set up things, you know

So if it's low income

You know what?

Y'all don't call in and speak

your truth.

I'm just kidding, everybody.

8-3-2-1-2-10-17.

Somebody has to be the, uh, what's the name up in here?

Okay, so, uh, let's see.

Erin

is

him on our,

baby!

What?

I ain't doing nothing.

I'm trying to go to our

YouTube page.

Are you?

Yeah, I didn't say.

Erin is going to say Bailey cracking herself up and put her laughing

emoji.

Absolutely.

Great morning.

I love and appreciate you.

That's China Star.

Tamisha Gilbert.

Great morning.

Love you.

Appreciate you.

Let's see.

Marty Slager.

Slagle?

Is that it?

20, 25 years ago, you could safely binge drink on Water Street.

It sure isn't food trucks.

Okay,

right.

I mean, I understand what he said

has three floors only operates one because business is so bad.

That's from Laurent Taylor.

You know, I was wondering if McGillicuddy's was still there.

To be honest with you, I've been down on water in a whole minute.

Yeah.

So I was wondering if McGillicuddy's, you know, was still around because they used to have the best wings.

I'm not saying well, for me, it wasn't the best wings, but I get it.

Let's see.

AJ closed due to finances according to them.

So yeah.

So my thing is this low country is now another business that just abruptly closes doors

and

say it closed permanently.

Really?

Yeah.

And there were some people like in the story for the low country.

which can be found on 56 low country a seafood restaurant announced on Sunday.

It is saying goodbye now.

Silk.

Yes.

Low country.

Aren't they all kind of in the same area?

I'm getting

ready to just read the rest of the story.

I'm about to read the rest of the story.

That's all.

Now this is Fox News.

Pay attention Xavier.

Hello country.

Yeah this is on Fox 6

News site.

No, no, no, this is Fox.

This is conservative Fox.

Go ahead Homer.

A look

online shows the business has positive reviews and a glance at the restaurant's window shows a sticker with an A health rating.

Imagine the confusion when customers looked at the door and saw a sign saying, thank you, clothes for good.

Apparently, lately, the lights have just been off.

Milwaukee resident Robin Lamont said Lamont found out the news while heading there for dinner with friends.

We were happy.

We were ready to go get a boil in or something Lamont said.

Fox six news on scene updated the group while they were waiting outside.

The sudden closure is kind of wild Lamont said.

Low country announced the closure on social media, but gave no explanation as to why.

Fox six went there in person and the general manager said business is not what it used to be.

Last week, the gentleman's club silk exotic announced its temporary closing its doors.

The business said it's not abandoning abandoning the downtown area and would reassess in November.

Black and May Dukes on water shut down for good while low country did not go into specific details.

Silk and Duke cited violence and safety concerns in the area as reasons for closing.

Neighbor Nehemiah Brown said he thinks the increased underage crowd in the area causes problems.

They do a lot of stupid stuff like fighting and all of that.

Brown said as multiple businesses close either permanently or temporarily in just over three months, people downtown say they hope more will not follow.

I just hope it doesn't affect the development or the further development of this area, Lamont said.

A lot of people come here to have a good time, and a lot of people come here to eat.

There are a lot of good restaurants.

The district's Alderman, Robert Bauman, told Fox Six he did not know why the business closed and has not received any communication from them.

That's the Fox Six news report.

We got to get ready to take care of some bills.

Troop Nation.

Why do you think they're closing 8

3 3 2 1 2 10 17?

Head us up on the truth.

Call a line.

Yeah.

And we can put up a poll for when we return.

Do you believe they're closing due to violence?

Yes or no?

I just want to know why they're calling the crab spot low country.

The same

reason silk is around the corner.

We got to get ready.

Take care of some bills.

You're listening to truth in the morning.

Okay, I'll do myself this one.

Order in the studio.

All right, we got to take

care of these bills and we'll be black.

Truth in the morning returns after this on 1017 the truth the truth app and streaming live on 1017 the truth on YouTube You are listening to truth in the morning on 1017 the truth the truth app and streaming live on 1017 the truth on YouTube

Down low.

Low country.

Silk.

Dukes on water.

A.J.

Baum.

The garage saying, look, we're changing things on Brady

Street.

Only problem I have is the low country one.

Welcome, Black.

I

like crab legs.

We don't want to

have stick to my spot though.

I

will go down there every once in a while

to G Fama.

We're not trying to mix them in because they just open.

So yeah, we we talked about it when it did open.

What?

Yeah, we don't want to mention it like it's closing to and

they just got

there up a yard.

Because

some people when you start mentioning it when you're talking about places

that

clothes

Exactly because we got some favorite spots down there.

Mm-hmm.

That's one of

that part.

We got

the other spot too.

Yes Now low country

That one really bothers you, Bailey?

Well, not a lot.

I generally, I would go down every once in a while with the homegirls, you know?

But that ain't really, you know.

That ain't really the spot.

I can't say the spot.

I'm like, sure.

And I can't say the spot on the air where I'd be going for my crab legs, because I don't need everybody.

It's enough of us out there.

Our population is good.

We don't need everybody.

Y'all selfish.

Y'all keeping business away from.

Some places

everybody don't need to know where you go Homer.

I get

it.

That's like the beach little beach area.

You don't want to tell nobody about.

Oh, now you know.

Now you see y'all.

I said that's Homer got a little spot by the beach.

I've said the name.

Yeah, but you ain't trying to tell nobody where it's at.

Well, you said and you have to

find it.

You

have to

walk.

See, that's what I'm

saying.

It's not like.

We

all have little spots Everybody don't need to know right Everybody you can't invite everybody to the cookout Okay,

we're

not invite every relative to the cookout there's always gonna be at least one person that you go.

Yeah, see

We we're gonna we're gonna fix him a plate.

You're gonna take a plate with you.

You got have somebody fix him a plate and take it to them.

They can't go.

Okay,

we got we

got our poll up.

Now, why do you think businesses are closing on Water Street?

Do you think it's that you can choose violence?

Yeah, poor economy or both.

So that's the poll up.

Make sure you participate in that poll.

What do you think it is?

I think

that it is both.

I think it's both.

Yeah.

And I think that one can lead to the other in certain situations.

So I think that violence, in my opinion, can end up making people like you were just talking about about how we don't want to share this and share that.

It's like, damn, not everybody coming.

Right.

And we know

sometimes that you gotta find another spot.

Right.

So this is where I'm going with saying that if you are used to going down to a place and enjoying whatever the specials are, or if there are no specials, you just like the service, whether it's just the bar, whether it's the bar food, whether it's the restaurant, and you just love their service.

But then you start hearing about, well, somebody was murdered.

you know, steps away from your favorite spot on that street or you hear about there were gunshots or you hear about and not only here, you see the videos on the news and social media where there's fights.

Of course, that can make some people say, you know what, I'm not going near no more.

And

to say it for me and, you know, I can stand on business saying it.

It's the same way when I say that there are certain gas stations in our community

that I'll

never go to.

I don't give a damn if I'm running on fuel.

You talk about me.

Listen.

Listen, I got a list.

I'm not stopping.

Now, you know what I'm saying?

Not to get gas.

Really?

Because

it's like they they standing there with the push I see mask on.

And

it's

90 today supposed to be 90 degrees tomorrow as well.

Uh-huh.

And they out there with push ice team mask on and hoodies I'm not saying that everybody that wears a push ice team mask or hoodie

It's on something negative, but it damn shut up.

Don't make me feel comfortable

that part

and I'm trying

to

go in there and then especially if I didn't heard that yet.

They be robbing people all the time over there on 76 of silver spring at that gas station.

They it's a known fact that, you know, a

lot of

women would post that they got robbed and all of that.

So some of a lot of these businesses do get that.

negative stereotype.

But is it a stereotype when you've got people who are actually saying they were victims?

Wow.

To

this.

So it's the same way a certain Walmart.

I wouldn't go to.

What is what I

say reason.

So

so.

Yes.

Really?

I've talked about

this.

Really?

I've talked about this.

Have you heard?

Have you heard this?

Have you heard this?

Has he has there's some Walmart you won't go to.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I

told you.

I told you East Capital

East Capital

not going I go to that one all the

time

and because of you their economy is still but But for me that that's like I wouldn't go to the Midtown Walmart anymore.

I

went initially

Closed a long time

and I understand why So I don't know how the hell we act now I'm surprised

You know, okay, hold on.

If anybody understands what I'm saying, give us a call.

833-212-1017.

It's certain gas, say I'm not going to a gas station on 27th and Capital Drive.

Can't believe it.

I'm not.

I'm not going to the gas station.

I'm not.

Really?

I'm not.

No.

No.

Nope.

Nope.

I'm not.

Won't even take a

chance.

Listen.

Really?

Green Bay and Hampton.

I'm not going.

Really?

Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

Wow.

When you get right off on the freeway headed to Capital Drive, I'm not going to that gas station.

No?

35th and what is Garfield or something like that?

I'm

not going to that gas station.

No?

I'm just, I'm not.

I will get out and push my damn car or truck before I stop there for gas.

You feel what I'm saying?

I will, I will push it.

I'll be here.

Push, push, push.

I would call.

A homer.

I would

call.

If you keep a homer.

I would call

my roadside assistants and say, bring me some gas.

So I can make it to a gas station to get you know, so I'd be in my vehicle as if I'm parked

doors locked,

of course

Home or wait

833

I think this is putting you in the arena of Shay Shay food for I'm just saying

I'm calling safety

Here's the

difference.

Wait a minute.

Alfonso Dupree said Walmart.

Alfonso.

Listen, I go to Walmart.

I shop Walmart.

Even when they say don't

go.

Yes, we have met up at a Walmart.

Yeah, absolutely.

I want y'all to know where this Walmart was.

This was not.

Baby, you giving up secrets?

Okay, I'm not going to tell him, but it was way out somewhere, y'all.

It was way out there.

I just want y'all to know this Walmart was no place near the neighborhood.

It was way out somewhere.

But here, here.

Okay, so

here's, and we was like, you come on here too.

Make sure y'all take the poll.

Why?

Faley just really did the.

Why do you think businesses are closing on Water Street?

Do you think it's because

of

violence, uh, poor economy, or do you think it's a mixture of both?

So we'll get an update on the poll when we come back.

Yeah, we will.

And, uh, but the thing with me with where I'm talking about those gas stations and so call it, uh, uh, what, what you want, but I will go and give away food and book bags and other things for the community.

In those same areas,

I just I will

go on 27th of Berlai.

Yeah.

Yeah.

You don't

understand

the

giveaway things for

the community.

I've done it on

27th of the capital, but I'm not going to get the gas.

I'm not doing it in the gas station.

Homer.

I'm not doing it in the gas station.

I'd be the rent out of supplies as soon as I got there.

Listen, you like what happened blow?

I thought you just

If you were supposed to be at work at

8 a.m.

What are people

right now?

Violence is coming in second place.

at 33%.

0% for poor economy.

And both is at 67%.

All

right.

So yeah, I'm with the both.

I

said both for me.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But poor economy solo ain't nobody really.

So people haven't had money.

They just ain't going.

But they saying it's both.

So that's why they

taking the money because they got it.

Right.

They ain't going because of that.

And unfortunately, I get it and understand.

I get it and I understand.

But, you know, when I was speaking about gas stations and we got a lot of action here.

I think it's violence.

I think it's violence.

Oh, you think it's just violence?

I think it's just violence.

Usually.

And

when, so when we're talking about people who are counting the chips and the kibbles and bits, it's like, you know what?

as much as I love this restaurant or as much as I love going to this place.

I'm sorry, on the truth on the YouTube.

I'm used to saying that my back, but you can't call it eight, three, three, two or two, ten, seventeen on the YouTube chat.

Right.

You know what I'm saying?

Very true.

So but when you're down there, it costs because it's actually costing those businesses that are downtown in whatever major

city to be

down there.

It's a cost.

Yeah.

And so that's why in my opinion, where you're saying we're talking about the blue building across the street, it's like.

No, I

mean I was really just talking about that cuz you know really if it's housing down here Especially in this area.

I

just don't think that I just don't I think don't think that Housing is you know, I don't think it's the best thing whether it's

Upscale housing or not.

I just in this area you would think that there would be just more business business, right?

But with regard to the changes of the clientele downtown I think you know when you think about that you have to think about some of the other things like the takeovers and things that were happening downtown Last year and then finding out that okay.

We don't have enough police, right?

you know, to cover the entire city and so downtown, you know, so with that having been less prior, I'm not saying it's less prior, but you understand what

I'm saying,

you know, that it becomes, you know, more people go, wait, man, there ain't nobody down there.

So I can't go down there and just do what I want to do and be intoxicated

and walk up and down the streets of the different

bars and stuff.

Well, no, listen, listen.

You know, seeing how many people they don't beat the hell down to some of these gas stations.

I'm talking about overkill for real.

I get it.

You know, they may have tried to steal something, but that's what we have law enforcement for.

Call the police.

Keep your damn hands off of people.

because then when them people put their hands black on you, then it's a problem.

So I'm just saying, uh, I understand, you know, the, the challenges, let me call it that the challenges that, but if you cannot, uh, stand the heat and you say, get your ass out of the kitchen.

So don't come in our community in my opinion and treat us like.

dogs, sugar, honey, iced tea.

But now you've gotten used to talking to everybody a

certain way and

disrespectful and act like it's not disrespectful.

It

is.

And some people such as myself would not come in and tolerate

that kind of disrespect.

Not at all.

Yeah.

Ballots.

You know, we, we, we knew the families and we knew that there would be a phone call made if you walked your ass in that store and start acting up.

Right.

You feel what

I'm saying?

We gotta get ready, take care of some bills, we'll come back and talk

more about it.

Yeah, we'll talk more about it, I got some comments on

that.

833-212-1017 will be

We're broadcasting live from the American Family Insurance Studio in the heart of downtown at the Avenue.

And we have been talking about some of the businesses closing and also before we went to break.

I was talking about the fact that, unfortunately, some of the black-owned businesses that

try to open up and hope to get the support of the community.

Yes.

May not get it.

And it's not all because that everybody is doing bad business.

Right.

So we know that some it is.

It's bad business.

It's like, okay, you expect me to come and shop with you and support you and all of that, but you don't have any professional etiquette about yourself.

And I'm not going to just spend my dollar with you just because you black.

And that's what some people, in my opinion, have an ego that they believe that regardless of how they end up treating you, that you're going to just go and, you're supposed to just go and steal support.

I'm not doing that.

Right.

That's even with elected officials.

I'm not just doing it just because they're black.

I'm looking at everything that comes along with that.

What is your stance?

What is your platform?

What are the things that you are talking about doing?

If they align with what I'm thinking about and how I feel, then that's where I'm going to end up putting my support.

So, you know, some people get caught up and I know that there are some people that they don't care as long as they're black.

I'm voting for them or whatever.

No.

No, no, no, no, no, no.

Just because because everybody think about some of the black Republicans that are cool with all of the stuff that the Orange Man is doing and they stand in 10 toes down.

So yeah.

Yeah.

You know, so but Bailey, as I was giving my truth before we went to break, you were you had some things that you wanted to.

Say as it relates to your truth in your opinion on some of those things.

Yeah, you know what?

I just feel like when you're you're going into business These are all things that you have to take into account and unfortunately with regard to employees and unfortunately Because I'm one of those people I For the last however many years I've been in the workforce.

I've been in the position of hiring people And I go through quite a bit

Before

I'm

gonna hire somebody and some people make it through and some people don't I want the ones that are down for me and really want to be on my team and really want to work hard because that's what that's how I get down,

right?

You

know and if they're not then they're gonna weed themselves out you ain't even got to do anything

But the thing is

as a business owner or manager you have to be prepared for that too,

right?

so

Those are all things that you have to prepare for when you go into business or when you become a member of management and someone that hires people.

Right.

Because you want people that want to be on your team.

And if you don't want to be on my team and do roll how I roll, because every manager is different.

That's right.

Then, you know, that's you.

That's it.

This ain't the

spot.

The Joe spot is down there.

The

spot may be down the street.

Yep.

You know, no harm, no foul, but you know.

It's called business for a reason.

Yeah, absolutely.

And some people just try to keep the friendship in there and act like they're supposed to circumvent the business.

You get what I'm saying?

Like, no, this is business.

So yes, I'm going to have to make some choices and some decisions that you may not be comfortable

with.

Now,

it doesn't mean that when we're not on the clock that we can't end up going out and enjoying a meal somewhere or just go to hang out to watch a game or something like that.

Right.

But that's that that's the friendship side.

Yeah.

Too many people, in my opinion, don't like.

to separate the two.

Right.

And you have to, in my opinion, you got to respect both.

You got to respect just because your cousin is the manager here, this and the other.

And so many people, I know that abuse that the cousin may say, well, you know, if you doubt it out, you know, I got you and come with three other goddamn people.

And it's like, yeah, see this one could.

Yeah.

be like, okay, you know, I got you, right?

Yeah.

But, but they with me.

Well, I hope they go on and patronize the business or whatever it is.

Right.

You thought I was going to sit here and feed.

No.

Yeah.

That's not what I'm doing.

I said, I got you.

Right.

You is singular.

Yeah.

I say you and your people.

Right.

I say you.

Right.

So, uh, but yeah, it's those type of things that then make people try to go and man, yeah, you, you, you, you cousin, man, they end up getting a little, uh, position and now all of a sudden they act like they don't know a person.

Yeah.

Stop lying.

Yeah.

You know why it went the way that it went.

Stop it.

Stop it.

Yeah,

but they want to make you the villain and the bad guy.

That's

it.

That's all.

That's it.

You know, and I tell people all the time, the most important thing in a relationship, business, friends or whatever, it's communication.

Yeah.

Because if you don't know how to communicate, you're gonna have some misunderstandings.

I know this.

I know.

Yeah.

Well, did you

communicate with the person.

No, but they have said, let's stop.

Even the way you talk, they have said,

stop.

Stop.

And you want me to elevate you up into a higher position.

And you're going to say, they have said, stop.

That is not my representation.

That is not the representation I want from my business or my company.

That

part.

But they have said, may I help you?

The hell is help you?

What the hell has helped you?

Why are you patting your head like this?

Uh-uh.

May I help you?

What the hell?

Like, stop.

Stop.

We ain't doing that.

We not doing that.

Yeah, yeah.

You're in the wrong job field.

You're gonna be doing this.

You should be downtown.

Downtown doing what?

I ain't gonna say it.

You ain't not, you're not gonna get me in trouble.

I'll tell you off the air

though.

Okay, okay,

but you want to do this is remember what I'm doing Some of y'all get it I'm just saying learn the day Let's

get let's get it update update on the pole why Why do you think businesses are closing on water street?

Right now, 41% of violence, poor economy, 0% and 59% with both.

There

you

go.

So, Bailey, in where we are now, would you open up a business on Water Street?

Well, it's probably a good time to do that.

Bailey,

let's see.

Bailey!

What?

Order in the studio.

I'm just saying.

No, okay.

It's a good time.

That's that's.

Hey, listen, opportunities is really like, you know what?

Let us go slide some oil to me because you might get a good deal, too.

You might

because we need more people.

Exactly.

Yeah.

Exactly.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Damn.

Bailey said it might be.

You know what?

We gotta get ready to take care of some bills.

Yep.

You know, after, uh, you know, I had all kind of corn stuff and then I had the foodie MK foodie fest right now.

Cause of so will be just perfect now.

You know what I'm saying?

Cause

I didn't have, you know, all of the foods that I could have from the vending trucks.

and I'm a corn you know what I'm a cornologist so I haven't had any

corn this summer

yeah you've been missing out you gotta come to these community events

well you

know what it's free

I usually will go get some corn either it's one or the other usually either summer fest or best steel days

they have your

people

your people was.

See, Bailey, that's why you gotta come to the school festival.

That's why you gotta come to the MPD National Night Outs.

That's why you gotta come to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

I mean, they've done for the year.

No, I'm going.

No, I'm going and hopefully Miss Farina.

who

I love.

Yes, we'll have some corn.

That you can make yourself.

At Rock the Block.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Because I had none.

And you

know, I'm going to Rock the

Block.

Yeah.

I try to show up and represent, you know.

What hold on

I'm trying to figure out where you're going.

Okay, but the reality is pretty much all of the events that I've been to to support or may have been involved in had free Free corn.

Yeah, roasted corn.

Yep So, yeah yesterday it was over 600 years of corn it was out there that Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr.

had

Uh-huh.

Second district, all the person.

Yeah, and it was all free.

Free?

Wow.

The MPD ice cream truck was out there, free ice cream.

Free ice cream?

Yeah, all the stuff they do, it's free.

You know, they make sure that the community is the winner in it all, you know?

So from national nightouts with MPD districts, you know, 75 that I was a part of,

and then

of course,

the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office with Sheriff Dr. Denita R. Ball.

Yeah, like, yeah, the corn is free.

Like, at all of these different events, some of the block events, some of the black to school giveaways that they had.

Yeah, the corn was usually free.

And I indulged in it very well.

And I got to get my clubs up.

I got to get my clubs up now.

Light onions.

Yeah, zero.

There are onions.

Broccoli and cheese.

Ain't nobody doing

it.

Soup.

Oh, I love soup.

Ain't nobody doing it on yourself.

Strawberry.

Shake.

Mmm.

Yeah.

Mmm.

All right.

So we're going black to talking about these businesses, right?

And they're shutting down.

And.

When you when we talk about the violence, Bailey, who do you think is attributing?

to the violence.

Is that a trick question?

Okay, what's the final numbers on that?

You gave the final numbers on that poll, right?

Okay, wait

a minute.

Okay.

Yeah.

Okay.

Look, we got an entry.

Okay.

For poor economy.

Oh, yeah.

3%.

All right.

All right.

Violence.

Oh, by the way, the question.

Why do you think the businesses are closing on Water Street?

41% violence, 3% poor economy and 56% both.

All right.

So

there it is.

I told you please create the phone.

Let's do it by age.

Let's do it by age.

Cause you got what?

I get the side-eye, but you asked me

and I'm gonna let you do it, but really

What do you wanna put down Homer I just want you

And give their truth 833 to 1 you don't want to put

17 Xavier you're gonna do the poll

You're gonna put down there.

I'm

asking him this your poll

No, I said you can end

up Yeah, baby

give me all the looks Listen, are you afraid to?

Say the poll I'm not I'm just saying

listen what?

Attudation The folks starting to ask which which is their favorite restaurant

Are you kidding me?

Wait a

minute.

Let's see.

Will denies that the people who don't have money and shouldn't be shouldn't be are the ones are causing these businesses to close down shop.

They be bumping into people in all kinds of stuff, didn't you?

Am I lying?

Am I lying?

It's

not

everybody.

That's why

I try to avoid.

I mean, I ain't go a lot.

Listen, I do, I do that on the south side too, though.

If you don't look like you've got no car insurance, I try to get on the far

side of

the

south side.

I'm just real.

I'm just real.

Hey, no, Mr. I can't stop at no gas stations on the north side.

I didn't say none on the north side.

I'm selective

selective,

which I started some and there are more to go on

that.

Yes.

There are more on the list.

Yeah.

Uh, 27th and right.

Uh, Lisbon for damn show.

Uh, 27.

I

don't think I know none on Lisbon that I was shot

back.

Yeah, I wouldn't.

No, uh, I wouldn't shop at the one on 27.

I'll

stop it.

I'll stop on capital.

Oh, 27 capital and

24.

I wouldn't stop on 27 Lisbon.

I wouldn't stop on any of the ones all the way up to

what

it would be.

40th anything there and then Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

I forgot, you know, you turn down and see it on.

Yeah, you leave it out street.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

No, I'm thinking going up because the one that even I won't even go to the one and this always amazed me and it it baffled me.

I'm shocked.

Okay.

that I won't go to the one right across the street from the third district on Lisbon.

I stopped in no place over there.

If I roll through that.

I have to.

I'm just sitting around.

It's, you know, I ain't stopping over there.

Man, come on out.

Really?

Okay.

But, yeah.

Listen, Aaron, as him said, man, I've been trying to disagree with Bailey, but I can't find a lie.

There it is!

No lies detected.

I ain't stopping.

My doors is locked.

I don't care.

Don't come up to me with your cup trying to get, you know.

Don't ask me if I want to buy no water.

I love all the children.

But I ain't finna roll down the window and then it just you know, it's a whole situation Being a single female is hard out here.

It's hard out here for a pimp, you know Because you can't be out here just doing whatever you got to you know You got to watch

And

if you go in them areas before you get there lock your doors, you can't do it you ever remember one time

My car stopped over there.

My car stopped over there.

It's off of Lisbon.

You sound terrified.

I

was.

I locked my doors.

I call my people.

I call like five people on my team.

I like somebody got to come get me.

They all pulled up on me.

OK.

OK.

Wait.

Hold on.

Did you call?

You know.

So

yeah.

20th and center.

Yeah.

No.

You will be over.

Yo, I'll be over.

Tonya.

Hey, hey.

Can you make it sound again?

That sounded hilarious.

You don't want to be over.

So now,

uh, now, uh, uh, Felix said there is one.

Gas station is black owned on the north side BP gas station.

I go

there.

Yeah, I go

there I'll go

there

if

I'm in if I'm in that area Yep, I will go there.

Yeah, I

have I have patronized that business

Mm-hmm.

Yeah, but that yeah,

so I can't

can't

even do it

Can't even do it.

We gotta listen true days.

We gotta be

quick when you pull up

to get ready.

Take care of some bills.

You listen to the truth in the morning show.

I am the legendary Homer blow along with my girl.

Bailey, I get gas in the hood.

Kobe.

Bailey, I won't get gas in the hood.

Come on.

No, I will.

Just on

that one.

Okay.

Okay.

Let me look at that for you.

inside the gas station it's all good you just pull up get your wave get your gas and keep it pushing

okay we'll come back to finish up the show yeah we'll be

black truth in the morning returns after this on one oh one seven the truth the truth

Welcome Black!

Alright.

You don't know how the business is closing.

So

crazy.

You are so crazy.

The violence.

Poor economy.

No, it ain't the poor economy.

Only 3%.

They tired of you and yours.

They tired of you and yours.

Well, no, no, the majority said both.

Listen.

The majority said both.

That's true.

But nobody just said it was just for economy.

They said it's both.

Let me tell you

something.

You and I both

know.

You and I both know what the deal is.

Yeah.

It might be a little bit of the poor economy, but like, I think it was Aaron that said that, you know, a lot of these people, it ain't the economy situation, but some people, yes, but for the most part, it's really about them having control or what they feel is enough control in downtown Milwaukee.

And I think one of the things you're going to start seeing is, you know how they did it during the Republican convention?

We talked about this.

They don't have to do something down here.

I know.

I'm just reading abstract number 414's comment.

What did he say?

He was like the poll that we would have put up.

OK.

He dares.

I dare you all to put a fourth option for black people.

It would

have

probably been close to a hundred

percent

So we're doing truth in the morning.

We're doing truth in the morning.

They're

tired of y'all.

Hell, some of us are tired of

me.

No, we tired

of us.

Y'all be like grand open.

We celebrating and then grand closing because y'all don't shut it down.

Literally.

Headlines be, they just shot already down

there.

You

know what I'm saying?

It's like, and

you know.

And you know, all of this is really sad.

You know what?

I've got a feeling it's gonna get a little bit worse downtown.

You know why?

Why?

Because the Bucks ain't got who on the Bucks.

Y'all didn't send them down.

So who on the Bucks?

Who?

There ain't one person.

No,

no, don't even know him.

Yannis and all of them gone ain't even one left the people we

knew

The people we knew was gone Middleton even gone we don't even know nobody over

It's because you're not sports enthusiasts So so you said even though you not you knew Yannis said you knew

I knew I

knew they family I

had to stand where you come around

I knew

some of the

other players But they systematically got rid of everybody

that was dame time.

Yeah, you know,

yeah, and he wasn't there that long But listen They got rid of everybody so who's on the team now?

Ain't

even nobody on the mural no more all the people down do they paint over the mural yet?

I Can't with you this

We just have fun y'all hey, we just have a little fun Cuz the business is closing down here.

We can cry we can laugh.

Yeah.

Yeah

And that's that's a sad truth.

Yes.

That that is a sad truth.

The reality of it all.

You know what's crazy?

I remember this Third Street Market Hall used to be the Grand Avenue Mall.

You remember that?

Yeah, Sherwin, he was probably going to discipline you on that.

Are you saddened that they're temporarily closed and what would you how would you feel?

You'd be like I got to go all the way around the corner now.

Yes.

Oh another silks literally two minute walk, right?

So

are you saddened that you have to take that extra two minute

walk?

Well, I never been to a strip club before but if I was a patron,

okay?

Oh,

I just I support the strippers.

Yes.

Okay.

So but you

never went to on the

board.

Oh, no, no, I support the strippers.

Okay.

Okay.

Okay.

Okay.

Okay.

I thought for sure.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

You fought hard.

Yeah.

Yeah.

No pun intended.

That's you mentioned something on the radio.

I don't know how much hard I thought.

Well, now you kept saying like no, they should be open.

Yeah, they should be

open.

That's fighting hard for

a place

that had

prostitution sex

trafficking the whole night.

And

it

was started from

the

manager.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So yeah, you fought pretty hard.

Pretty hard

for somebody.

So so you like you support the strippers, but you wouldn't go to the place of business to support them.

You'll support them on a more personal level.

Correct.

Yeah, I support them.

Okay, financially though, right?

Well, I don't financially support them.

But so

you don't tip the strippers that you

I don't go to the strip club.

So I could.

Okay,

that ain't the only place is strippers.

We're we're we're also there.

Okay, you are all this photography that you do.

You ain't never had bachelor parties or anything like that.

Well, why would I?

I'll be there working.

No, I'm just saying so

you never just went.

to a bachelor party without working?

You sound like you're lying.

You sound like I'm lying.

You

know I sound like you can hear some people that sound like they're about to lie and be like, you can stop right now.

You're about to lie.

Go on and give me

this.

I want to say what he

said.

What happened was

because I've actually never been to a strip club before.

But the crazy thing is I have hosted a party.

A

strippers

party?

Male strippers.

Yes.

I hosted it.

Yeah.

Yeah.

One time.

And never again.

Why not?

Because I had this thing and I have always had I don't need nobody to touch me.

Do not touch me.

Don't pick me up.

Don't nothing.

Nothing.

They picked you up.

Do pick me up.

I'm getting picked up

and he's trying to put

his whole routine you know going on and I'm looking

at the

salesperson I'm blessing out the salesperson while he's doing this because I see her at the back and I see her talking to the promoter and she had her finger in his face and I had mine and I was just like yeah I got one rule

I had one rule at the time.

Do not touch me.

Don't touch the host.

I ain't got nothing to do with what y'all got going on.

All right.

Speaking of that, we got to get ready to roll the body here, baby.

Yeah, we do.

Uh, so, yeah, uh,

businesses

are leaving downtown in from those who have participated in our troop nation poll.

Yes.

Uh, overwhelming percent say that it's violence and poor economy.

Yeah.

You know what?

It's just, you know, I think that there needs to be a plan for downtown.

Oh,

it's going to be

one.

Don't worry

about

it.

It's coming.

I'm sure it is because people need to feel safe.

It's going to become a literal gated community.

Probably.

And that's what it has to be.

And that's what it has to be.

That's what it has to be.

Yeah, exactly.

They have it in other major cities.

Yeah.

And

gated.

And that's what they go.

That's probably.
