A lot of times, you know, when you just think about how powerful you can be in this situation, you know, and you can create something, you know, way bigger, way better than, you know, than being there.

So he has, you know, the right to select whatever goes on, but to then have a random person or whatever, I don't know who it was that posted that, you know, that's not the way to go about it.

So what he should have done was have a meeting with everybody and say, okay, this is the direction we're going.

And if that's the case, fine.

Which was WLUM at the time and they hosted they hosted that area, but your people Our people our culture came out.

That's what they saw and You know, it was kind of like, you know, what is going on and then they blamed it on the music and Then tried to blame it on the station.

It wasn't even there, which is my station

But yeah, so I mean, I get it.

so you know, so my my thing is there are a lot of clubs.

Yes, that may be black owned and operated or managed by.

And when you have to go sit in front of that license committee and you hear about different things going on.

They want to know what is your business plan next?

What is your move to?

We won't have to have these type of issues and we should vote for you to keep your liquor license, which is a privilege

and They talk about and they have the police reports, you know police department reads off all of their interaction with that establishment calls that they've had, you know the reports they have to get

And you hear all of that and

now

you're looking at people that are on the other side that are saying well, what's your plan of action?

With everything that we've heard here We I would vote no that like whoever the all the person is

on that

committee that may be speaking about what he or she

has read in these reports, right?

And say that right now, I don't think that you should have, you know, a license with all of the things that are going

on.

So I'm going to let you know now, I need to hear what is your plan of action to where as you won't have to be sitting in front of us next year.

And a lot of times you hear some people get up there and lie.

Are we going to be 39 and up?

They think I'm lying if you want to.

Now we're going to do this and we're going to just go with this and we're going to do this and we're going to change this.

Whatever it takes for them to get their life since renewed or, you know, they're going to say that they're going to do that.

And then oftentimes they go right black to like that.

That works for about.

three weeks license are renewed and Then they write black at it again, and then they write black in front of the common the license committee again and You know what happened?

You know you said that you were gonna do this you said you were gonna install security cameras You said you were gonna hire more security staff because of all of the different issues

that

you know you're talking about people in their livelihood and their businesses

And, and I get it.

You give them sand.

I, um, there's so many other examples in my opinion where people have made, uh, drastic changes and it's like, this is what they feel that they need to do.

If they feel the punch or the crunch from loss of business, that's what it is.

Cause like right now he's trying to black track.

Because

of all of the, the scrutiny that's going on him.

And and his establishment, but my thing is like what you said and I've said it when I was a voice in my opinion on it If you don't want to go there no more what like why go somewhere if you're not wanting just

They want the lemon drops and they wanted they damn wings.

But then at the same time, we'll get mad if we stereotype as black people for eating chicken.

So soon as they took the chicken off the menu and it may be black now, but I get it.

If it is black, easy black in there.

So your other customers that were not on that,

of people that looked like me and his wife or girlfriend, whatever the hell she was.

I remember Sherwin was one of the ones that went down there with the protests.

And this is before the damn chicken wings got taken off.

are many times I went in there and ordered just broccoli.

I also ordered like they had a wonderful grilled cheese.

I also said they should have taken lemon drops off to black folks acting up on Brady.

I call a business protection.

Most owners, black or white, don't care what color their customers are.

They don't like fights.

They don't like nuisance calls from neighbors.

They don't like people who don't tip.

So act right and there's nothing to complain about.

Folks will have your club or bar shut down and move on to the next

and act the same way.

if you just lost your life savings.

They don't want, they just want to be down there, get their money, let everybody have a good time within, you know, the confines of the situation.

They don't want all the, the shootings and all the things that people are doing down there right now.

And I mean, who just sold some one, some big restaurant down there just closed his doors or said they was selling or whatever.

Know like what was it Dukes and all and yeah other establishment, and I'm sure they probably had like bar food or whatever

Now you

remember it was homicide there and other people shot right in front of Dukes, so

So yeah, you

think he want that?

no, he don't want that because one of the things that happens is people don't want to come back

People don't want to come customers don't want to come back And you know one of the things about here in Milwaukee that I've noticed is one minute you have the grand opening the next minute It's closing.

You know why it's closing because it's stuff like that

Because stuff like that always happens and who's usually Associated with that

And that's just real.

I mean with the the bucks spot that just opened up downtown and all the things you would think that we would all be proud of that and we all want to be a part of that and just you know have great times down on Water Street and all the but that's not what's happening y'all.

That's the few that want to come down and cut up.

In an area, you know, that should be, I mean, that should be a great spot for everybody to come and party and not have to worry about all that.

You have to look at it in the community and be like, what the hell is going on?

That's why when I remember we were talking about No Mo May, when they say like, you know, soda bees and all of that insects can end up, you know, doing what they do, make everything balance out.

And I did it for about two weeks and I just couldn't take it no more.

County or a suburb and I saw the people out there cutting the grass.

He can do what he want to do with it.

If I had a club, it would be 45 and up.

And I'd play nothing but hip hop from the 80s when there wasn't no custom in it where you could listen to it with your kids in the car.

Because they talked about everything that we're doing now, but they just worded it different and wasn't too much profanity in it.

And it had good beats to it.

Eric being Rock Him, Big Daddy Kane, all of those Coogee Rabbit Poll, all of these guys who, dang, we have so many artists that could still be played in these clubs that won't bring that type of violence to the club.

For all you club owners out here, if you listening, don't be listening to what people say.

They ain't paying your bills, they ain't doing none of that.

They not paying for your kids' college and none of that.

And for the people that's got a problem with it, go somewhere

else.

We don't want you.

What's your truth about limiting certain music being played in your establishment?

Okay, so it's kind of like you look at this like two sides.

So me as a person, I listen to a variety of music.

So when I see that it's like, oh, so I guess you don't want me there because I'm not, you know, I don't really want to hear Ed sharing, you know, playing on and on and on or people I don't listen to a genre of music that I don't listen to, never listen to, don't even want to dance to.

So it makes me feel like I'm not welcome there.

So I wouldn't go there.

I would go somewhere else, but I do feel some kind of way.

But then if you look at it from a business owner, which I have a friend, friends that have a place where people go out and party and dance and whatever.

And I hear the story.

Oh my gosh, something happened last night.

Now I got to go up to the commission.

Now they're talking about what are you going to do?

You have

to come up with all these suggestions

and it's

stressful.

and they not playing with you.

They mean it.

Like if you don't get it together, guess what?

We will shut you down.

This will affect your pocket.

You will be closed.

Somebody else will get your money.

So that's a reality.

That's not a joke.

It's not it's like people lifeline their bread and butter is put on everything to have you have a good time.

And now you're trying to mess it up.

So I do get both sides.

But I

think it's a way of

It's a way of doing things.

That's right.

Where, where you don't have to like offend people because guess what?

When I leave from summer fest, there's a whole bunch of intoxicated people that don't look like me.

But guess what?

They're giving a pass.

People

know

they are drinking.

They accommodate.

They make sure they got 20 summer fest buses down there.

Everybody want to drive them to it.

They're accommodated because this is a known factor.

You

go to

summer fest, they're drunk.

They get a pass.

Madison wins.

You know, they're football game badgers.

They are tearing downtown up.

They are doing all kinds of I've seen

it on

the news.

They're giving a pass.

Oh, you know, a couple unruly people.

But when it comes to us.

I don't know why the teens went to Bayshore and did that.

I don't know why it was acting up at State Fair.

But guess what?

You know teens are doing this.

We have to figure out a way with not penalizing every kid that's coming or every brown kid that's coming to Summerfest or

coming

to it.

We have to figure, and I think it is, when you don't want to discriminate, when you don't want to make the parent that does everything right and their kid is a 4-point-old student who wants to go to Summerfest to be feel like.

Wow, it's rough being black.

I get treated like I'm a criminal and I just showed up.

So

it's a way of doing things without just just attacking a whole race of people.

Hang on right there because I am a solution orientated person.

So what could state fair or any other public situation do that would not be.

looked at as, oh, they don't want black people out here.

What could they do with seeing the unfortunate things that have been taking place at State Fair for a few years or more now?

What would you suggest?

And that's why I tell people go to these town hall meetings, go to the police if they're having a community meeting saying, you know, what, what can we do?

So what would your solution be?

So your son or your daughter wouldn't have to feel that way because something has to change.

We agree on that.

Some got to change, but what would your plan be that would make sure that you don't have to worry about those situations?

Something's going to happen, but it ain't got to be in a large, you know, it's like, oh, that was a isolated incident.

What's your plan?

I do.

I do like the fact that at certain times you need to come in with a parent.

I do like that.

Yeah.

But I was at summer fest and I watched it.

I watched the ratio of white and whites and like teenagers go from like.

it was one to ten far as like blacks and whites then it went to like five to five and then the teenagers was like there and i'm just like oh my gosh um it's time for me to go because i don't know what's going down but i hear you know

you don't know me like that

when i

hear people shaking heads so

do like the point with parents but how did all these kids get in because i know it ain't that many parents

I see teens, I don't see any parents.

So

I don't know if it's like, hey, um, I ain't here with my mom.

Can I walk in with you?

I don't know exactly what happened with that, but.

I know a lot of teens got in and it was after that time at Summerfest

and

they had a whole lot of problems.

So I was thinking like they did at Mayfair Mall.

Guess what?

You got to be with your mom and you got to be with your mom all the

time.

Your mom can't be in a

bathroom, can't be over there and getting donuts and you right here.

Nope.

I'm not babysitting you.

Your mom is.

So

they were strict in Mayfair and you know what?

Mayfair don't have all the problems that they used to and they didn't get closed down like some of the other malls.

So I

think you have to make parents.

accountable, but when you have thousands and thousands and thousands of people,

how

do you hold those parents accountable?

When they come in because you can't just walk in.

We're going to go to Charles, but hang on, Bailey, you got some Charles.

When they walk in,

can't just get into safe air.
