Somebody will help me out.
Somebody help me out.
Kenny.
Uh, Kenny.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah.
That's how Xavier looks.
I guess the chilly temperatures this morning made him change his, you know, because I'm sure he didn't go to that wedding and shoot the wedding like that.
Oh no.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They can see who you are clearly.
Right.
They don't need facial recognition.
Let's ride.
Had to get down to the War Memorial to set up, uh, to be able to start playing, uh, music for the guests arriving.
And it's a great thing that I'm.
Always early like that go to set up because some of the guests start arriving arriving at right 12 30 so but I was ready to roll and already had music The

But sure I had got some.
Someone's
Yeah, you know, I don't know everybody that you know, especially they look like us it's saying I'm going to Poland to get married.
So that you know, their spouses from Poland.
Oh, okay.
That's what it was.
Okay.
Her fiance.
Right.
So there you go.
You come where I am.
I am the husband.
You do.
I'm just looking at Bailey's eyes.

I need to know, you know what I'm saying?

you.
Yes, you're right.
But, you know, you got to love people.
You got to love people.
Yeah.
You know, I had to do a wedding and wedding reception on Saturday after I left and.
The guests were scheduled to arrive at one PM.
The wedding was scheduled to start at one 30.
And so again, getting there, probably about maybe 1205, 1206.
I was able to set up.
I was in the sun, but it was a nice breeze.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, uh, but at the wedding reception, a brother, he's from Milwaukee, but he's no longer resides here.
So, you know, a lot of people flew in town, right?
Wedding, uh, Kiwan and Rochelle, uh, Patterson, Mr. And Mrs. Patterson.
But he said.
In my presence, we were talking because he was reminiscing a lot of a few of us are reminiscing.
You know, I live in Atlanta now, man, but man, I remember this.
I remember that.
Right.
And, uh, but Nitro, he said, and I told him I was going to say it.
He said, man, I'll be listening to y'all.
Even then, I'm out of town.
Most people are about time, about time it comes to their time.
They're pretty tired.
Coming from I can understand what he's saying coming from the bridesmaid standpoint.
Mm hmm.
That made me quit a wedding.
I mean I didn't quit the wedding, but I was like after that way I was like I didn't nobody else's wedding What am I sisters gets married to remarried?
Okay, that's it.
Hmm.
No one else And I got friends from here to y'all to go keep it.
No, no
I did not listen.
I did not want to be a bridesmaid.
I was, it was like, I was, it's not like I was tricked into it.
I did ask her because she has some, did she have any other friends that she might want to ask?
And she was like, Oh, but no, it's you.
I want you to be my maid of honor.
And I was like,
Wait a minute, they gotta pay for stuff So I did it, but I was like that's it I ain't doing no more cuz you know what you gotta take pictures everywhere you go.
Hey Dr. Biko Baker said Homer I had lactose-free rocky road See now that's that's you know, that's my kind of try ice cream because you know if it's made with that red
You know, the red top, you know what I'm saying?
Like, it's just regular whole milk.
Yeah, it's gonna be a problem.
The remote would have ended early.
I'm just saying.
Well, for me, they had to evacuate the Riverside University high
Well, I wouldn't if I didn't because I
I would have had to see the sign and say we do have lactose.
Oh, lactose free.
Oh, yeah.
Then I'd be like, okay.
Oh, yeah.
Give me that one.
Yeah.
I don't want shopping.
Oh, okay.
I don't want shopping.
It would have been fair to true nation though, because you know, they were only giving out so many free ones and I probably would have commandeered a lot of them.
So that kind of like, okay, I know where I'll be all day and all evening.
Yeah.
So that happened.
Again, shout out to Sir Chansey.
He said, morning fam, great seeing you both doing your thing this past Saturday.
Of course, it was great seeing you and seeing all the true nation come out to nurse Ariane Kawanda.
Great morning.
Love you.
Appreciate you.
Still praying.
Say good morning.
Home room.
Keep us in prayers.
Thanks.
One week ago, shoot my soul.
Please keep us lifted.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Uh, and to Dr. Clarissa Lawrence, uh, Jeff, uh, sister, Marina star, Marie, shining star, Lori Patterson, uh, everybody that is checking in, Jasmine Gooden, um,
on the YouTube page.
We just want to let y'all know that we love you.
We appreciate you needing a cold, Dale Mack, Ebony Allen, just everybody.
Dr. Clarissa Lawrence said, I need a videographer for my upcoming event.
Well, he said, you know, it's not going to be in the hood as you may think of it Xavier.
I didn't even say anything.
I know you didn't, but the look on your face.
That is funny.
Right now you fit the part, though.
You can go in the hood and do all kind of video stuff.
Yes, you can.
Don't you see all the videos we send you?
Clients will be looking at me like I'm crazy.
Oh, yeah.
I got a couple of them.
Yeah, send me this morning.
Oh.
I was going to go there.
But
I'm not I'm not going to stereotype what I want to say.
But before we play it before we play it, there's going to be a song that I'm going to request of our producer to play.
And then I'm not going to say anything else.
We're just going to go into the clip and then we'll we'll talk about it.
But we also got to talk about the traumatic fire that took place.
on Capitol 25th and Capitol 25th, 26th and Capitol over 50 people were displaced.
But in my opinion, that building has kind of been a troubled building.
And it wasn't in the greatest shape, in my opinion.
You know, yeah.
be black.
Truth in the Morning returns after this on 1017 The Truth, the Truth app, and streaming live on 1017 The Truth on YouTube.
You are listening to Truth in the Morning on 1017 The Truth, the Truth app, and streaming live on 1017 The Truth on
We're inside the American Family Insurance Studio in the heart of downtown at the Avenue.
There was a lot going on through the weekend.
And I just want to say, before even seeing that in the chat, it was already on our list of things to talk about with the amount of people displaced.
Because I was seeing what I was seeing in that.
Yeah.
I saw that part.
But yeah.
But yeah, that that was a tragedy in itself.
Uh, about 50 people are displaced after an apartment fire Saturday night in Milwaukee.
Uh, Milwaukee fire officials confirmed to 12 news.
They responded to the building near 26th street in Capitol drive and found fire in the first floor apartment.
Officials said the fire was extinguished and there were no injuries, but dozens of people living in the building have been displaced.
A 12 news, uh, photo journalists on scene overnight captured at least one first floor window.
at the building boarded up the cause of the fire and cost of damage is under investigation.
But yeah, they was like the first floor, though.
I mean, it was the flames were shooting.
Out of those out of the windows, like it looked like a whole fireball like this.
And, you know, we we talk about, you know, fire safety and awareness.
Right.
One of the reasons why I say that.
I always try to have the MFD Mobile Survivor Live House at the Children's Party, a fire engine.
So, you know what I mean?
They see them and hear them going through the community all the time, but a chance to kind of like get up close and personal and be able to ask some questions and let the firefighters be able to give them tips and make them definitely
But because people are not sure if their children are out, their pets.
They're seasoned citizens of mother or fathers.
I know I got to go black in there.
Yeah.
And but again, that that's that's the biggest rule that you are not supposed to go black.
You don't have any flame retarded, you know, clothing.
Yeah,
And
Yeah.
The hallway is on fire.
Yeah.
That leads you to downstairs to try to get out.
Right.
What's your action plan?
What do you do?
Exactly.
What's your plan now?
How do you get out?
Because.
fires are you know, usually unsuspecting and It can just catch you and sometimes so much smoke and and a lot of people like when you hear about house fires and I've learned this over the decades because of knowing a lot of firefighters and It's smoke inhalation like when a lot of people hear that somebody died in a fire.
Yeah, they you know, it's not that they were burnt
You know what I'm saying?
It's that smoke.
It's so many chemicals inside of that thick plume of smoke that you just can't breathe.
And if you're inhaling it, it's like as if you worked at a factory all your life and got what they call black lung because it, you know, you can't.
And so for that, you know,
That's how most people, even when some of the firefighters, because some of these flames and fires, you know, it's so much that even with their protective gear on, it can still overwhelm them to where they're brought out and taken to be treated because they've got smoke inhalation.
So now you talking about people that got all the gear,
you
And sometimes the smoke in some of these fires can still be overwhelming.
to even the firefighters where you may see a fall black, pull out, pull out structural damage.
Nope.
The floor looked like it's going to cave the ceiling about the cave.
So even they have to be, they know that we don't, we don't know what the floor is about to fall out from up under us.
We don't
People are not checking the door to see about the heat and all of that.
They're not doing it.
They not doing it and a lot of people are dying because of it.
But then you got to always think about those that are displaced.
Like we're talking about with this situation, right?
Close to 50 people have not more have been displaced now.
Where did they go?
You know, and Red Cross does an amazing job with trying to help those who are in situations like that.
But you're talking about temporary things.
What happens next?
Well, you know, maybe some of these organizations that we have out here can help them Get find housing and other places to live at least while they're re Doing whatever they're doing.
I mean Because you know, sometimes it can be a total loss to the families as well So talking about having to start over from scratch that can be very difficult as well
But in the immediate time, I mean make the plan wherever you live right now Make the plan and just talk about it with your family.
Hey if something like this happens Climb out the window if something like this happens Let's all meet at the tree over here or at our neighbor's house or something come up with a plan something simple
for you and your family.
And, uh, and even when speaking about climbing out the window, uh, what do you have in your home that is in case of, right?
So if a window has to be broken to get out, you, you ain't, you know, you panic in so much, you ain't got time, you know, do you have something to make sure that you can get the biggest shards of the glass?
after you break the window, because you don't want to kill yourself by hitting a jugular vein.
You get what I'm saying, a main artery trying to climb out the window because it's all of these jagged edges and shards of glass.
So it's like you, you really have to think about this.
And I'm telling you, Billy,
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because again, because what it does and I and I say this because I've heard a lot of parents speak.
to me about it, and even some PWKs, be like, my son or my daughter learned so much going through the mobile survivor live house stuff that I forgot.
And it's like, good, good, because that's what I needed to do.
I needed to nudge you.
I need you to be able to say, how was it?
You know, because some people may have went to the the actual, you know, Survival Live House, but hell, it's been so long.
Right.
Do you even remember all of the things that you learned then?
Right.
You feel what I'm saying?
So it's a good thing to be able to go over there to the when you when you see the MFD Mobile Survival Live House, go over there, talk to the firefighters.
When you see a fire engine, you know, they got pamphlets, they got all kind of stuff that kind of lets you know.
Things that you need to know and do in case of yeah, we don't want to have to have a fire But in case of
It's in case Something and you don't look at it as a total loss.
Yeah, do some of the things that I've suggested before That some people again don't think about Do you have your own in case of
Fire care kit I call it and what that means is like oftentimes like I guarantee you unfortunately those 50 people or close to 50 people that were displaced They came out with just whatever they had on a black.
That's it Mm-hmm, you know if they came out with no shoes they didn't have no shoes Yeah, and they don't have whatever they probably had is still inside the building.
Mm-hmm.
So my thing is
You can either have a friend or if you have to get a storage bin then do that.
But create some of those big old plastic bins that we got.
Do one for the adults in the house, one for the children or a child that's in the house with some shoes, some underclothes, some...
pants, some just so you have some other clothing, you know, just all of the little things and especially for your children, things that you know that are precious to them.
Right.
Make sure you have that and just store it somewhere other than inside your house.
Right.
Because you just don't know.
You hope you don't have to use it.
Right.
And during the seasons, change the clothes out.
Be like, OK, it's fall now.
So ain't nothing to happen.
But in case OK, it's winter.
OK, let's make it winter clothes.
Let's make it coats and hats and gloves.
You know what I mean?
Just just so you have the things to where as you don't have to say, I don't have anything.
I don't have anything.
Fire safe should be safe.
I saw somebody on our YouTube page talking about they have, you know, and I do the same thing as it relates to that level as well.
But we just got to think about some of these things because there's so many people, unfortunately, that can tell you how devastated they've been because they've lost everything, everything in a
Yeah.
So it's smart to do.
You felt I'm saying it's a good thing to do.
So yeah, you lose most of your prize possession, but even some of your momentos that you know, you just don't want to see anything happen to, you know, some people that have stuff stored in the basement when the floods came, they lost it all because they didn't have it in plastic bins.
You know, so just a word of home blow advice to just try to, you know, really think about that.
Do you have all the information?
Do you have their bank account information?
Do you have their passwords to all of the things so you want you already dealing with the fact that you lost your loved one?
But now you don't know what to do.
You don't know where they're.
I know they got insurance.
You don't know where a policy is.
You don't you get what I'm saying?
You just don't know the thing.
You don't know if they got a wheel.
If they got, you know, you don't know it's you need to know these things.
And I know it's time to take care of some bills, but I've always just been passionate about, you know, trying to make people aware of some things that they should be thinking about if you not and not only think about them, put them in the motion.
like there's some
You're listening to Truth in the Morning.
We'll be black.
Yeah.
But yeah, no.
Listen, we had they they should have banned David Caradine and all of that.
You go to sand.
when you can snatch the pebble from my hand, it'll be time for you to go.
I'm just saying, there's a lot of things that would need to be banned.
They did they did pick on Pepe Le Pew, though, the cartoon.
But yeah, this was the age.
Pepe Le Pew.
Yeah, Le Pew.
You got to put the French to it.
Le.
You know, like Le Miserable.
Yeah, you got to put the lay in front of it.
You're gonna put the lay in front of it
I'm
just saying when they said it when they were at the Markets Performing Arts Center, saying this is what's coming up.
So I'm following that.
I was following that.
But yeah, no, with this situation, it was the Asian street food night market or, you know, that was going on down at the lakefront.
And there was a squirmish, a fight.
I guess one of the different things about it is everybody there didn't necessarily jump in.
It appeared to be focused on those three to four individuals.
They were like, what's going on?
But again, so I get it.
A lot of us are like, see?
See, we don't get to say see yet until we see a bunch.
of that happening just all the time, every time something is going on.
They also weren't mobbing.
Yeah.
Four to five.
Yeah.
You know, four to five.
Yeah, four to five individuals that appeared to be.
into it, and a woman was trying to seem like she was trying to pull her man or at least break it up to one degree, but everybody else was still walking around.
Everybody else was still walking around, looking at things
some that
You know, Heal the Hood this Saturday, you know, going book bag giveaway.
There I'll be, you know, playing the music on Burl Eye by the COA Center.
But there, I've seen some things happening at some of the book bag event giveaways.
that has now made me want to rethink doing my pop-up because I was gonna you know I usually do a pop-up one right right and you know probably you know a couple hundred book bags you know maybe 300 but you know at least a couple of hundred book bags but I'm now trying to rethink because of what I saw at a what was a beautiful event but again the PWK's
The people with kids biological mothers and fathers, but they are not parenting They bring the kids out looking like you know what they used to say who done it what did it and all of that all the things and just You know they they got they sells kept but they kids are looking like who's caring for these children
Have they had a bath?
Have they, you know, did you wash their face?
Did you, you know, did you make them presentable to come out?
Some of these PWKs will make sure that they're presentable and in what can still be considered a raunchy or a ratchet way, in my opinion.
But the children like, no, it's like, come on.
And then hearing how they cuss at them and yank them by the arms and all of this.
And then they fussing at the people who are out here giving you all this stuff free.
You know, free.
They were given away at this one event.
It's.
It pains me to, you know, even I'm contemplating now, even though I sent the video to Xavier, our producer to play it.
If I want to play it, you know, well, you put it on.
Let's see it.
Let's go.
No, we we we display.
We ain't put it in.
I mean, they probably seen it on social media because it's major trending on social media.
But there was a book bag giveaway that happened on Fond du Lac.
We have we we it would be better to wait until after eight.
You know, once we come back at eight o'clock to do it because we need to talk about it and we need a true nation to give us their truth on it.
OK.
Eight three three two one two ten seventeen is the call in.
and we'll be black
Don't touch that dial.

Hey, you know what?

Oh, yeah.
Hurry up and go to the car.
Yeah.
They, some of those people, they, hey, they still got some, they just gave me one.

No, we don't.

We just, you know, this ain't, you are not at your favorite grocery store or box store where you be like, which one, which book bag?
No, this is free.
Yeah.
and with your hairstyle, you could have bought your damn son and daughter some book bags.
You don't even need to be here at this book bag giveaway.
Look at the way that your nails is done.
You dance show nurse shouldn't be out here taking advantage of something that some other people in the community really could use.
You look like you could afford to buy some book bags.
For all your kids and your nieces and nephews.
So what the hell are you doing out here taking away from some other people that really need it?
Oh, I'm just saying I'm just saying
Parents would parents.
That's where I'm going.
I ain't saying it's nothing wrong with getting it, but if you ain't handled your business, and that's why I brought that up, they gonna make sure that they got they all white, all red, all purple, all yellow.
They gonna make sure that they good.
They gonna order their shoes, and they gonna do this, and they gonna do that.
Get their face beat with the makeup artists and all of that kind of stuff.
Yeah.
But your kid walking around here with sleep in the eye, uh, got all kind of stuff.
But now you want to come to where it's, you know, and, and listen, Paley, I've seen these people.
I still got some more book bag giveaways that I'll be at.
I guarantee you they're going to be at each one because they've been.
It's been a role of watching them at the others.
Like, why are you here to get book bags again?
Again.
Yeah.
With your kids again.
It's, it's, you know, the lack of respect for people who are just giving and caring people is just to a ridiculous high.
And, you know, there are people who are now looking for a place to stay.
and you just being vain about everything else.
These people don't know what's next with their life.
And you out here taking advantage of other people, they may have children that need some of them book
just saying
about some people that you know you trying your best to serve your community but you want to serve as many as you can but we have some people who are just so selfish
and feeling so entitled that they just come and take away from, like, it's 70 to 100 other families that could have gotten book bags, but you had every damn book bag giveaway.
And that's the truth.
I'm just saying, you know...
Yeah, you can create database that they they that was my sister.
I got a twin and not now you arguing with if they got a twin and all of this kind of stuff.
Oh, I what I didn't go to.
I was not.
We find ways around them near everything that comes up.
So I know we have to take care of some bill.
But
They got dirty clothes and school supplies in the same damn bag.
Oh, man.
Really?
Yeah.
But yet they talking about they got the go yard bag and all of that.
You get what I'm saying?
Like, come on.
Get the hell out of here.
Yeah, so.
Do you know some people that take advantage or give us a call?
We got to take care of some bills.
I am past time.
They're having some issues trying to play the video.
I definitely want to play it.
OK, so I've been informed
Don't touch that dial.

Xavier, if you can play that clip and we'll just have to kind of narrate through it because there is, we won't be able to play the audio of it, right?
But here you see a woman being subdued.
This woman was a part of the event.
organizers okay that that was taken down by law enforcement
Okay.
And what made her get involved?
I wasn't there, so I can't say.
Okay.
But if you would be able to hear the narration, you could hear people saying.
Uh, that they was fighting and then this one guy may have allegedly had a gun in his book bag or something like that.
Okay.
And she ended up allegedly snatching it and started running.
The law enforcement saw her with this gun and ended up, you know, subduing her.
And she, she was not going, uh, she wasn't going willingly at all.
She was.
For anybody that says that she wasn't resisting, she was absolutely resisting, even when they were trying to get her inside of the vehicle.
Okay.
It was, are you playing it again Xavier?
Because I see that it looks like it stopped.
Just continue to play it and then we'll end up showing a picture.
Just stop.
We gonna take care to stop.
So they were trying to get her to calm down.
It wasn't no calm and down happening though.
She wasn't interested in calming down.
Not from that and then other video because there's about this there's several videos out baby
and somebody was saying and this is why you gotta make sure you get all of the receipts right somebody was saying oh in another video was saying no
she got the gun from the police.
She took the police gun.
If you look at that, if you look at that gun with the extended clip and rubber bands around it, yeah, there's no law enforcement officers.
You should, you could, if you look closely
Yeah.
Thanks.
When they say no or they say stick, that's what that's what it is.
Okay.
When you heard me talk about they had a stick, they had an extendo or whatever.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
So a switch with an extended clip.
Okay.
So you imagine how many bullets may fit in that clip and you got a gun that soon as you hold the trigger down, it can release all of those guns in a matter of seconds to milliseconds, which is.
you know, which reminds me about, unfortunately, there was a road rage shootout on Capitol Drive, Sherman and Capitol on Saturday morning, around 10 something in the morning.
And a one year old baby got grazed and another person was injured from this shooting.
And just looking at the yellow casings, there were over 19 bullet casing markers that were out there.
Yeah.
So, but yeah, but they were, this was their, this was their fourth annual, you know what I'm saying?
They had been doing this for three other years.
So what, how intricate of a person she is to this event, because there's another clip where it shows her by the door and, you know, trying to tell people, like, you know, get away from the door or this and the other.
So.
But it is it's sad though, you know
Hmm But you you can tell that that's a lie
But my whole thing was just watching all of that play out and I'm I'm gonna still just say on Fonda like and you know for reasons because you don't You don't want places that are trying to do good to have to be marred by that situation
that part
who made a post on social media that that really you know really gave her explanation because she's been DJing this event, you know what I'm saying?
For some of the years of not all of the years that they've been doing this and it's you know, it's a great event and she was so frustrated because of
What these people did it was like
yeah
for
out of control
I wanted to just be able to say how great of an event that this was and that that event was and that that event But instead of being able to say that you have to say did you see the gun?
They had a gun and there's a video Bailey that will make you emotional because you see
all
The kids not knowing because they up there trying to play the different games and activities.
They don't know and then they start running and they're like which way do I run and it's just sad because to me it creates more traumatic moments for people in our community.
And and unfortunately some of them probably live in areas where they experience the gunshots the get on the floor and crawl or you know get away from the windows and all of that kind of stuff
So they
are and now you're going to event you get your face painted you you're getting to play in the bounce house You're getting to play giant tic-tac-toe games and just all of the things they had there to the MPD free ice cream truck.
Yeah, all these things and and
Not to mention that they're giving away hundreds of book bags and laptops and you got people acting like they bought the laptops and they bought the
So
Yeah,
that are doing things and now they went from an inaugural event to here they are in their fourth year.
You know what I'm saying?
And this is what you want them to be left with because now that's all that they're gonna have to keep trying to explain the incident instead of being able to just take care of business.
And again, it was a sister that.
Decided to do this event four years ago.
here we go.
Yeah, you go to saying going through the same thing.
Yes, the morning.
I love you and appreciate you too.
I didn't think that was here.
When I heard that that event was here, it just really hurt my heart because people are in need, Homer, and you do amazingly wonderful things for the community all the time.
You always have.
And I just had a thought, maybe the book bags and laptops could be on the children's desk the first day of school.
Let them have the events, bound houses and everything.
but just have the, whatever you're going to give the children, just have it on the best first day of school because that's ridiculous.
And then the kids see that
just hurts my heart.
And when I go to events, no matter where it is, as you know, Homer, I get there really, really early.
Because I don't want to deal with what may be coming down the line
in the event.
It could happen in the beginning.
But I like going in the beginning, see everybody and be on my way.
just hurts my heart to hear that.
But don't stop.
Whoever is having these events, keep doing it because people are in need.
Yes.
And I appreciate you as good seeing you as always.
And.
Thank you.
Have a wonderful day.
You and Miss
And you know, thank you again.
And I look at that the same way as Denise was saying, like, you know, because I've done that before and just watching some of the.
Term oil that has happened at some of the events, not all, a lot of them went off without a hitch.
They still had to deal with that attitude.
Yeah, they still had to deal with people that was at three other book bag giveaways before they came to this one.
Yeah.
But let's just take them to the schools.
Yeah.
Let's just donate a thousand book bags amongst X amount of schools because those teachers Mm-hmm and the principal they'll know
yeah who needs
Yes,
we got a stash of book bags with supplies and they can truly give because another unfortunate thing and I know we got to get ready to take care of some bills is some of those kids are in those numbers where they can't read.
Yeah, they don't know how to write.
They don't know math.
They don't know.
Some of the simple things right and some of them are gonna be one of the some of the ones that drop out.
I don't even graduate Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm So you're listening to truth in the morning on the award-winning one oh one seven FM the truth We got to take care of some bills and be black and along with my girl Bailey Coleman.

Just talking about, like,
But you know people that are really like trying to we see the need in our communities and so we Do our best to try to see how can we help?
address those needs and make it a little easier
for some parents, uh, and, you know, people that may be struggling, you know,
so it's
yeah,
Don't do that.
There are some people in our community that really need something and here you are just.
wasting it or whatever the case may be.
And that really irks me because again, uh, there are people who really need it.
That's why we did it.
You know, that's why we continue to do what we do.
Yeah.
And just, I want to give a salute to people like myself and everybody else that even through having people that are taking advantage and not even respecting or appreciating or saying thank you that we still haven't given up.
Because we still know that there's a need in our community.
We still know that there are people who need What we are trying to do our best to help with so Salute to us for not giving up and and just saying you know what yeah, I hate being taken advantage of or I dislike it a lot I hate but some people may I just I dislike it a lot whatever it is for you and but we still
try to do it.
You know, we try to come up with ways to where people can't try to scam.
And that's why some of the people with the scamming is scamming that.
That's why it bothers some of us when we hear it because we know so many people that that song fits them to the tee.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
But we have somebody on the truth call in line and that number is and we're going to play that video clip.
We're going to play it.
I think it's sort of crazy that we give out so many book bags and kids still come to school without any supplies.
I think I thought alternative to giving up book bags.
Why don't we adopt schools and give them the supplies to support their children?
and know that they're going to get them and use them as they should be.
I mean, teachers are asking for paper towels, wipes, and all this other stuff, pencils, crayons.
And that means kids ain't bringing them to school.
So it's ridiculous that we continue to do something that isn't working.
we give out thousands of book bags and kids come to school with no supplies.
It's crazy.
bags can
Hey Denise, the dope thing about what you said is I've done that before too.
I've donated some book bags to schools just like during the Thanksgiving season.
I went and donated some gift baskets that included the turkey and all of the trimmings and whatnot.
My non-profit Humber Blow Foundation ain't non-profit 501c3 and I took them to the schools.
I took them to a few different schools
because
I'm like, you know what?
Here's my donation of book bags.
You as teachers.
principles, those in authority, y'all will know who really needs these booklets.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it.
And I may end up having to do that again this year because I just don't want to see the ungratefulness.
I mean, it hurts.
Right.
It hurts,
and it
It almost takes you out of character.
And it's like, I don't want to come out of character because it's not about this.
But when I tell you, those people know how to push all the right buttons to try to make you come out of character.
Disrespect.
Disrespect.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So yeah, I may end up doing that with my book bag stash that I'm doing this year again, because I've done it before.
But yeah, because I was thinking about never calling it off.
Because I'm like, after seeing this video clip that y'all are going to see shortly,
Uh, I was like, yeah, I done seen it too many times already at some of the boot bag giveaways.
Yeah.
I want to go through that.
So yeah, they definitely have them and, um, have even donated some for the birthday party for the kids before.
Yeah.
So yeah.
But again, yes, so that's that's damn near the better thing to do.
Yeah, because you get to see in people out there ready to try to fight.
And it's like, we ain't trying to have no fight out here for no book bags.
Right.
I guess, well, because I have to narrate it because there is some colorful language in parts of this clip.
So audio.
Yeah.
So you just go, you know, so but now.
We're, we're, we're leading right up to the next break.
So, so listen, I ain't going to say it the way I was going to say it.
I'm going to be like, you know, because, you know, when I give people my solid word, right?
But when we come back, oh my God, you're going to hear us because it's 825 and 47 seconds.
So we got to go to break it 26.
So it wouldn't, you know,
be black.

Bailey, Bailey, Bailey, Bailey, Bailey.
Um the the guns and the gun violence just it's like it don't stop won't stop, you know.
There were several shootings over the weekend.
Yeah.
And again, when we think about the numbers of what they cost us.
So there were six people hurt in four different shootings, and that's just from Saturday.
The first shooting happened at the intersection of Sherman and Capital just before 10 a.m.
Milwaukee police said two drivers exchanged gunfire at the intersection during a road rage incident.
We've been talking about road rage lately
The two drivers were injured and taken to a hospital.
Milwaukee police also said a one-year-old baby was hurt but did not specify how.
Both drivers were arrested.
The second shooting happened near 20th in Melvina around 3.15 p.m.
Milwaukee police said a 32-year-old was shot but was expected to survive.
The third shooting happened just four hours later at 24th in Burlai.
Milwaukee police said a 20-year-old was shot and taken to the hospital.
Milwaukee police are also trying to identify a person who was shot near 41st and Garfield just before 545 p.m.
And then, you know, you had a, um, a 15 year old girl that was shot over the weekend.
Uh, you had someone that was murdered, I believe in the early hours of yesterday, like that, um, uh, people were saying that they call them Chucky.
Uh, so RIP.
to check his family and saying that it may have been him trying to intervene and, you know, wow, for his girlfriend or something.
So I'll wait till receipts come out before speculating anymore.
But that's crazy.
But another thing.
And again, this is why these things are so important.
That took place on Saturday, August 22nd.
Milwaukee Gun Safety Summit.
A lot of people want to retaliate when they take an L. If you lose something in life, if you take a loss, somebody got the best of you.
You want to retaliate, organizer said.
They stress that retaliation should never lead to actions that could cost lives.
You get a gun thinking, this is how I'm going to retaliate.
That's not going to be helpful.
You're going to take another L, whatever you took and whatever the law is going to give you on the second L. So that is not a solution to your problems, organizer said.
The summit focused on prevention before a gun is fired with leaders from victims of Milwaukee violence emphasizing the importance of teaching children about gun safety.
We are dealing with a lot of gun violence with little children and that is huge for us.
We're trying to be a preventative measure in the schools for little children to learn about guns and gun safety, they said.
The event also highlighted the importance of securely storing firearms for Kevin Simmons.
Kevin said the message of prevention is deeply personal.
He was shot while working as an Uber driver.
One of
the
wow.
We need to protect our firearms, get a gun lock, get a gun safe, keep it in a place where no one can have access to it.
And that will solve a lot of problems, he said.
While organizers acknowledge that the issue of gun violence cannot be resolved immediately, they believe this initiative is a step in the right direction.
If we can shift the culture around retaliation, then eventually things will change, but we have to start somewhere, they said, which is true.
I also want to give a shout out to Pat Robinson, you know, worked with the Milwaukee Police Department as a crime scene photographer, you know, and his sister, Yvonne.
And

Truth in the Morning will be right back on 1017 The Truth, the Truth app, and streaming live on 1017 The Truth on YouTube.
Okay.
But he said.
In my presence, we were talking because he was reminiscing a lot of a few of us are reminiscing.
You know, I live in Atlanta now, man, but man, I remember this.
I remember that.
Right.
And, uh, but Nitro, he said, and I told him I was going to say it.
He said, man, I'll be listening to y'all, even then I'm out of town.

I do
Most people are about time, about time it comes to their time.
And
she was like, Oh, but no, it's you.
I want you to be my maid of honor.
And I was like,
Well, for me, they had to evacuate the Riverside University

You got to put the fringe to it.
Le.
You know, like Le Miserable.
Yeah, you got to put the Le in front of it.
You're gonna put the lay in front of it
just saying when they said it when the markets performing arts center said this was coming up So I'm following that I was following that but yeah, no with this situation.
It was the Asian Street food night market or you know, that was going on down at the lakefront and there was a squirmish a fight and
I guess one of the different things about it is everybody there didn't necessarily jump in.
It appeared to be focused on those three to four individuals.
They were like, what's going on?
But again, so I get it.
A lot of us are like, see?
See, we don't get to say see yet until we see a bunch.
of that happening just all the time.
Oh yeah.
Every time something is going on.
Everybody else was still walking around, looking at things
some that
this
I'll be, you know, playing the music on Burlai by the COA Center.
The people with kids biological mothers and fathers, but they are not parenting They bringing the kids out looking like you know what they used to say who done it What did it and all of that all the things and just you know They they got they sells kept but they kids are looking like who's caring for these children
You know, you're free.
They were given away at this one event.
It's.
It pains me to, you know, even I'm contemplating now, even though I sent the video to Xavier, our producer to play if I want to play it, you know.
Well, you put it on.
Let's see it.
Let's go.
No, we we we.
We put it in.
I mean, they probably seen it on social media because it's.
major trending on social media.
But there was a big bag giveaway that happened on Fond du Lac.
Mm hmm.
to everyone who came out and supported Truth Family Fest 2026.
Special thanks to Educators Credit Union, American Family Insurance, Milwaukee Public Schools, Artists Working in Education, City of Milwaukee, DCWS, AV Core Core, Ascension, and Tap-In MKE for helping make this event possible.
And...
to our vendors, volunteers, listeners, and families for showing up and supporting our community.
From all of us at one-on-one seven, the truth.
Thank you, Milltown.
Thank you, Milwaukee.
We love y'all.
You gonna learn today?
So shout out to that.
I'm trying to send this screenshot of this video clip that you are about to see after the clip plays.
So Xavier, I'm going to text you the photo that I screenshot it.
So that way you can play it.
You can show it as I'm talking about because once you hear it and I'm near a
And
But
Like, for example, if you're coming to the end of the line and the child in front of you, in front of your child, got the last computer, if you're nice, sometimes, the lady that's standing there or whoever's passing them out might go,
Hey, you know what?
Hold on one second.
Right.
We got one more in the back.
for a second.
you.
Right.
there.
right?
Okay.
Yeah, because
You know, from what I'm hearing, it was happening, you know, up there.
Okay.
All right.
So you do that hookup for them.
Right.
Oh, yeah.
Hurry up and go to the car.
Yeah.
They, some of those people, they, hey, they still got some, they just gave me one.
Be like, if you don't, if you don't go have several damn seats, if you don't go have several damn seats, that lady right there said, y'all still got some.
No, we don't.
We out.
Nah, she showed us hers.
I'd be like, you know what?
You know what?
And so sometimes, you know, you just have to let it be gone and they gone.
Like, will you stop?
We just trying to service our people in our community.
Truth in the Morning will be right back on 1017 The Truth, the Truth app and streaming live on 1017 The Truth on YouTube.

We're Black and we're
Welcome Black to Truth in the Morning on the award-winning 1017 FM The Truth, broadcasting live from the American Family Insurance Studio in the heart of downtown at the Avenue.

And

If you just heard over blows rant And you know what I'm talking about I'm just saying about some people that you know you trying your best to serve your community But you want to serve as many as you can but we have some people who are just so selfish
and feeling so entitled that they just come and take away from, like, it's 70 to 100 other families that could have gotten book bags, but you had every damn book bag giveaway.
But
Get the
care of some bills.
I'm frustrated.
We'll be black.
