It was a big moment in the night for sure and today we have videos showing exactly what happened.
AJ Byapour takes us through that video and has the latest response from election officials and those now calling for a state investigation.
This was the matter of pressing the wrong button.

And Jacobs from the Wisconsin Elections Commission echoes Milwaukee officials who say Tuesday's delay in election results was a simple human mistake.
Wednesday, the Milwaukee Election Commission said in a statement, quote, the error could not be caught sooner by staff because to maintain security, all material downloaded from the tabulators are encrypted and can only be opened at the county courthouse.

Milwaukee's election mistakes are adding up.
In November of 2024, the city had to redo its count of absentee ballots because someone failed to seal the door on a vote counting machine.
In the spring of 2025, 69 different polling sites had ballot issues.
Nine sites ran out of ballots.
Is there a call for the Elections Commission for the City of Milwaukee to frankly tighten things up?
I don't know the answer to that in the sense that I don't know the limitations that the Milwaukee Elections Commission staff are working under.
I have reached out to Milwaukee Elections Director Paulina Gutierrez.
I sent her those images asking if that is indeed where the wrong info was downloaded.
She has yet to respond.
I sourced the mayor's office within the last half hour or so.
Did say that there will be processes and training that is going to be reviewed between now and November.
I also shared these images with the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
Their tech staff says that is what it would look like when someone downloads the audit log instead of the election results.

Milwaukee Common Council will hear from election officials following the primary night flood.
So a human error during Milwaukee's election night caused a delay in reporting results for the governor's primary prompting city officials to request answers from the election commission.
The mistake occurred Tuesday night at Milwaukee Central Count where staff mistakenly downloaded audit logs instead of absentee ballots results onto the flash drives.
The error unfolded live also on 12 news.
What we uncovered was that five of the sticks had the audit log downloaded and not the results.
Polina said Tuesday night 12 news cameras also captured the moment the error occurred at Central Count.
Staff thinking they're downloading thousands of absentee ballots results onto flash drives instead They were exporting audit logs, and it was clearly visible on the screen So the Milwaukee Election Commission declined to appear on camera in the days following the era but did issue a statement saying the era could not have been caught sooner by mech
staff because to maintain security all material downloaded from the tabulators are encrypted and can only be opened by the Milwaukee County Election Commission at the county courthouse Alderman Peter Burgilis commended the commission for addressing the issue saying the checks and balances worked they caught the error they were transparent about it and fixed the error and it was a longer night but we got the results that everyone was waiting for
the Alderman Express continued faith and the Election Commission staff as he reveals that he awaits hearing from the executive director next month because you know they're in the dark, you know, right all their persons there and they don't meet in August.
So that's why he said we'll hear in September.
exactly from the Election Commission and the Executive Director of the Election Commission on exactly what happened and what can be done to prevent things like that from happening again, he said.
The Milwaukee Election Commission emphasized, which they commonly call MECH, M-E-C, emphasize that the error did not affect the results.
It only caused a delay.
The Commission is now reviewing whether any procedures, staffing, or practices need adjusting ahead of November's election.
For the first time Thursday, the mayor's office responded to the error.
The Milwaukee Election Commission has Mayor Johnson's full support as it continues to focusing on administering safe, secure and accurate elections.
The mayor once again calls upon state legislators to revisit early processing laws for absentee ballots in order to improve the election process statewide.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson's office said.
The Alderman agrees with the mayor's call for allowing the early processing laws to avoid election workers feeling rushed.
When you rush things like this, inevitably mistakes will happen.

Now we were going to go to a clip and give the update of the Milwaukee warehouse fire and the woman that was charged and she pled guilty and she avoided jail time.
Yeah, I'm kind of really upset about this.

A woman avoids jail time in connection to a massive five alarm fire in an abandoned north side building earlier this year.
It happened in May near 32nd in Hampton.
Bill missed and just got out of court and joins us to break down what happened in this case.

Yeah, hey there guys.
23 year old Ellen Stevens pleaded guilty today to misdemeanor negligent handling of burning materials.
Now that charge was related to this fire at 32nd and Hampton in May.
Stevens and three friends were trespassing in the former green bomb tannery complex, which is now owned by a subsidiary of the nearby Holy Redeemer Church.
The building's been vacant and under a raise order by the city for more than a year.
Now, Stevens said she flipped a cigarette butt into a hole.
through the roof.
And as the group was leaving, they found a small fire and thought that he had stamped it out.
But about half hour later, after they left the building, 911 calls started rolling in.
Now, police developed Stevens as a suspect after a person contacted police about Snapchat photos shared by Stevens showing her in the building with a caption stating, quote, I may or may not have lit the abandoned building on fire today on accident.
Stevens has no criminal record and took account of.
for her actions.
I want to say how sorry I am to Holy Redeemer, the firefighters, the surrounding community, just anybody that might have been touched by this accident.
Lucky for you that you
were able to leave and not be caught up in the fire that subsequently followed.
Now that fire took several days to put out at sentencing.
A judge ordered Stevens take a cognitive thinking class, a fire safety class and ordered her to not possess any burning materials outside of her home and work.
The judge also ordered her to pay $6,000 in restitution in Milwaukee.

So there are some safety concerns outside of the Wisconsin State Fair after two people were hit crossing the street.

So the story reads from that.
On Wednesday night, August 12th, two people were hit by a car while trying to cross the street near 84th Street and Kearney Street near the Wisconsin State Fair Grounds.
The 64 year old and 28 year old were sent to the hospital with serious injuries.
Wow.
Samantha Owens lives near 84th and says walking to and from the fair is getting dangerous and has been for years.
This is a family event.
It should be safe for you to cross the street, Owen said.
With the traffic now, it's a lot busier here, so people are not stopping when pedestrians are trying to cross.
Owens and her daughter go to the fair every day and sometimes use the crosswalk near 84th Street and Attler Street to get there.
These
11 days are supposed to be fun for people and yet you stand here and you can't even cross the street Owen said Somebody needs to do something whether it's the flashing sign here or a speed hump Owens has been in touch with Alderwoman Charlotte Moore who connected her with the Department of Public Works who connected her with the state who connected her black with more
I give you my paper trail of me trying to contact to get something done in this area to get people to slow down, Owen said.

Milwaukee Common Council will hear from election officials following the primary night flood.
So a human error during Milwaukee's election night caused a delay in reporting results for the governor's primary prompting city officials to request answers from the election commission.
The mistake occurred Tuesday night at Milwaukee Central Count where staff mistakenly downloaded audit logs instead of absentee ballots results onto the flash drives.
The error unfolded live also on 12 news.
What we uncovered was that five of the sticks had the audit log downloaded and not the results.
Polina said Tuesday night 12 news cameras also captured the moment the error occurred at Central Count.
Staff thinking they're downloading thousands of absentee ballots results onto flash drives instead They were exporting audit logs, and it was clearly visible on the screen So the Milwaukee Election Commission declined to appear on camera in the days following the era but did issue a statement saying the era could not have been caught sooner by mech
staff because to maintain security all material downloaded from the tabulators are encrypted and can only be opened by the Milwaukee County Election Commission at the county courthouse Alderman Peter Burgilis commended the commission for addressing the issue saying the checks and balances worked they caught the error they were transparent about it and fixed the error and it was a longer night but we got the results that everyone was waiting for
the Alderman Express continued faith and the Election Commission staff as he reveals that he awaits hearing from the executive director next month because you know they're in the dark, you know, right all their persons there and they don't meet in August.
So that's why he said we'll hear in September.
exactly from the Election Commission and the Executive Director of the Election Commission on exactly what happened and what can be done to prevent things like that from happening again, he said.
The Milwaukee Election Commission emphasized, which they commonly call MECH, M-E-C, emphasize that the error did not affect the results.
It only caused a delay.
The Commission is now reviewing whether any procedures, staffing, or practices need adjusting ahead of November's election.
For the first time Thursday, the mayor's office responded to the error.
The Milwaukee Election Commission has Mayor Johnson's full support as it continues to focusing on administering safe, secure and accurate elections.
The mayor once again calls upon state legislators to revisit early processing laws for absentee ballots in order to improve the election process statewide.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson's office said.
The Alderman agrees with the mayor's call for allowing the early processing laws to avoid election workers feeling rushed.
When you rush things like this, inevitably mistakes will happen.

Now we were going to go to a clip and give the update of the Milwaukee warehouse fire and the woman that was charged and she pled guilty and she avoided jail time.
Yeah, I'm kind of really upset about this.

A woman avoids jail time in connection to a massive five alarm fire in an abandoned north side building earlier this year.
It happened in May near 32nd in Hampton.
Bill missed and just got out of court and joins us to break down what happened in this case.
Bill.
Yeah, hey there guys.
23 year old Ellen Stevens pleaded guilty today to misdemeanor negligent handling of burning materials.
Now that charge was related to this fire at 32nd and Hampton in May.
Stevens and three friends were trespassing in the former green bomb tannery complex, which is now owned by a subsidiary of the nearby Holy Redeemer Church.
The building's been vacant and under a raise order by the city for more than a year.
Now, Stevens said she flipped a cigarette butt into a hole.
through the roof.
And as the group was leaving, they found a small fire and thought that he had stamped it out.
But about half hour later, after they left the building, 911 calls started rolling in.
Now, police developed Stevens as a suspect after a person contacted police about Snapchat photos shared by Stevens showing her in the building with a caption stating, quote, I may or may not have lit the abandoned building on fire today on accident.
Stevens has no criminal record and took account of.
for her actions.
I want to say how sorry I am to Holy Redeemer, the firefighters, the surrounding community, just anybody that might have been touched by this accident.
Lucky for you that you
were able to leave and not be caught up in the fire that subsequently followed.
Now that fire took several days to put out at sentencing.
A judge ordered Stevens take a cognitive thinking class, a fire safety class and ordered her to not possess any burning materials outside of her home and work.
The judge also ordered her to pay $6,000 in restitution in Milwaukee.

So there are some safety concerns outside of the Wisconsin State Fair after two people were hit crossing the street.

So the story reads from that.
On Wednesday night, August 12th, two people were hit by a car while trying to cross the street near 84th Street and Kearney Street near the Wisconsin State Fair Grounds.
The 64 year old and 28 year old were sent to the hospital with serious injuries.
Wow.
Samantha Owens lives near 84th and says walking to and from the fair is getting dangerous and has been for years.
This is a family event.
It should be safe for you to cross the street, Owen said.
With the traffic now, it's a lot busier here, so people are not stopping when pedestrians are trying to cross.
Owens and her daughter go to the fair every day and sometimes use the crosswalk near 84th Street and Attler Street to get there.
These
11 days are supposed to be fun for people and yet you stand here and you can't even cross the street Owen said Somebody needs to do something whether it's the flashing sign here or a speed hump Owens has been in touch with Alderwoman Charlotte Moore who connected her with the Department of Public Works who connected her with the state who connected her black with more
I give you my paper trail of me trying to contact to get something done in this area to get people to slow down, Owen said.
More tell CBS 58 that she has been in touch with Owen, sending her traffic calming resources.

Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting on the city's north side that killed the 16 year old boy.
Family now is wondering why a bro pressiato has reaction from neighbors.

It's the sentiments felt in this Northside neighborhood after a 16 year old was shot and killed near 40th and Clark Thursday morning.
Family identified him as Armani Thomas Cotton.
Things like that don't happen over here, so it's just it's unfortunate.
Lexi Reed lives just feet away from where the shooting happened.
There's a mom to my heart does go out to his mom, just his parents.
Investigators say a person in a vehicle fired at the teen around 933 AM.
It's terrible when violence happens.

From January 1st to August 12th, Milwaukee police have reported six juvenile homicides in 2026 compared to 16 reported during the same time frame in 2025.

A witness told TMJ for they rushed out to help him after being alerted by another teenager and found our money.

Another witness told TMJ for he heard five gunshots just after 9 30 AM.
Family shared that Armani Thomas Cotton was well loved and liked to play basketball Friends and family gathered at the scene Thursday shaking up to speak on camera Wow The shooting shook the surrounding community including Ali Gray a concerned community member and survivor of violence I rushed over here because I am one of him It don't matter if I knew him or not.

Armani Thomas Cotton is the seventh person under the age of 18 killed in Milwaukee this year.

We're talking about the violence that has struck the family of 16-year-old Armani Thomas Cotton who was killed on Thursday.
and authorities report no arrests have been made as of yet and are seeking public leads.
So this is where I say, you know, as a community, we have to come together.
Somebody, somebody knows some, somebody doesn't see it, something like, man, I got to hide out.

So they go through all the things of how they ended up finding out where this person was when they went to apprehend them.

I always end up hearing one of the witnesses, because now they're the witness, they didn't come forward, but they talk about he called me or she called me and told me that they had just shot somebody or they just killed somebody.
And so other people know and they don't say nothing until all of the things start, you know, the detectives end up.
through hard diligent work, putting the pieces together.
But my thing is, if you really concerned about the community, there are families that will hide a murderer.
They will.
They will.
And they were like, nah, I ain't turning my, you know, uh, and, and all of the derogatory language they have against like law enforcement.
But if it was their family member, are they going to hurry up and say, somebody knows something y'all need to call y'all need to turn them in this, that and the other.
But.
When it's their person that is the perpetrator.
It's I'm gonna hide them I ain't never gonna turn them over and this and the other and that's That's crazy to me and I think that's one of the things in my opinion that keep us where we are They keep us where we are.
So we're seeing we're able to see numbers where they're going down Yeah in different areas and we're not having as much this and as much that

Milwaukee police have reported six juvenile homicides in 2026 compared to 16 reported during the same time frame in 2025.

You know, when you lose a loved one and, and without it being gun violence

You ain't trying to hear nothing.
Nobody else.
And especially if you got some family members that you really didn't care for.

And then they want to come.

And then also the clearance rate is much higher this year in a lot of the homicides and even just shooting victims in the city.
So those things have to be looked at, although a lot of times people, again, if you
our friends or family of the victims, you still ain't trying to hear it.

Because my people still got shot.
My person still got killed.
My person still got carjacked.
You know, but it's like, but the numbers went down.
I ain't trying to hear that.

Because they carjacked me and all that kind of stuff.
So, so those are the narratives that we are.

You know and then you know, I mean cuz kids are gonna hustle and I don't feel like there's anything wrong with them being out selling some candy Or stuff like that, but you know, I just you know There has to be a point where and we don't know who shot him.

And they get instilled the right morals and values.
They get taught how to write, how to read, how to figure out colors and things like that.
But then when they get home, oftentimes there's no follow-up.
We're not going to let and for me parenting was I'm not going to allow my son or daughter to come up with excuses and not take accountability for their actions, right?
Because that's your thing in itself there.
That's a whole situation and that's a whole mission because I want to be able to have the conversation.
Uh, maybe we can do it one day next week when we're talking about accountability.
Accountability is the act of taking responsibility for your actions, your choices and duties.

It means you are willing to explain what you did, accept the results and face any outcomes, good or bad without making excuses.
