The Truth Booth · Wed Jul 31, 2024

Hello, hey, good afternoon. Good afternoon. What's your name? Hi, I'm Doug Denny. Doug Denny. So tell us what you do

Well, I'm the current mayor of wasa. I've been here about 103 or four days. Oh great

Yeah, new to the job. New to the job. How do you like it so far? So far so good

I'm

Enjoying every day. I take a walk downtown every day. I run by WXC. Oh

Looking at the

Yes, looking at the big hole across the street from WXC all that's great and you've been on Chad's show

I imagine I've been on the bull falls radio show with Chad the Chad home show the Chad home show

So he's all right. He's a he's a pretty good guy. He's pretty good and you know, actually

I didn't realize it, but I was also on Saturday with the business show that you have there too. Oh, okay

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the wasa business show. That's it. Yeah. Yeah. That's great. Yeah, no and

The audience loves that show by the way we were looking at the numbers. So that's always it's always good to see our aim is to

Promote local community as much as to local business

So and you've got a lot of great downtown businesses to support and some award winners right down the street for me

Yeah, what are some of those if you want to share

one would be

The the chef of chow chow his name is

um

Adam yeah, and what kind of food is it?

Very good food. Very good food. There you go. Okay, perfect. I don't know what competition

He was in per se, but I did see the news article. Yeah, that

That Adam won that and he's just two doors down. I like going there quite frankly

My wife and I sneak in there whenever we can I should probably try it because I'm visiting from Madison

And that sounds like a good a good sort of place to have a meal then it is

Yeah, so, uh, you know, did you grow up in wasa? I grew up in green bay

We we did a military career and then I moved to wasa with my family in two thousand. Okay

So why would be one a story that you would say is quintessential wasa that you want to share with us and you can take your time thinking about

Well, we moved here primarily for my job, but then secondarily was we had two options or multiple options to move

the school district at the time we thought was

excellent

Coming from where we were last in Rockford, Illinois and then brief time in Wabino

We felt the wasa school district was the right spot for our kids the opportunities were there for our kids

Yeah, and job growth and job opportunities at the time were great and you know wasa is a small

city

Not too big not too small, but you know if the old wasa insurance commercial they used to talk about

That great little city in Wisconsin. Yeah, no, and has that feel for sure right

And what are what is something that you're looking forward to doing here at the fair this week

You know, one of my favorites and when I go this goes back to when my kids were little and we would take them to the fairs to go

Go to the animal barn and see the see all the farm animals the cows the pigs that

The goats and the sheep and you know, I still enjoy yeah watching that

I was never a farmer myself my families were but

Yeah, I do enjoy that part of it. Yeah, no, that's great

And that's actually one of my favorite things to do when I get a chance to walk around there because you know a lot of the

Do they have the 4-H program here?

The the kids who grow the animals?

I think quite a bit of them are still 4-H people and I know in years past you you could auction they would auction off and it was a fundraiser

Kind of have been and if you think back to when August Kickbush our first mayor

Donated this land and it was a farm egg

event

Some of the other things like the music and the rides and all that came later, but it always was an egg or cultural

communal event that drove it from the beginning. Yeah, no, and it's you can tell that from you know, that's sort of the roots of it

Yeah, that's great

Any closing thoughts before we go

Hey, you know, I came into the exhibition hall not knowing who I was going to run into and when I see and we ambushed you see

You and Chad sitting here. I thought well, I'm gonna at least come up and say hi. Yeah. Well, thank you so much

I did I'm glad you're here. Yeah, we appreciate it promote the heck out of this place. Yes, it's a wonderful city

So in town. Yeah, thank you. Thank you
