As Wisconsin sports fans are all too aware of, the Badgers have been having a rough few seasons of football under coach Luke Fickell. In their last game, the student section began booing and chanting “fire Fickell” when it became clear they were losing against an unranked team. Former coach Barry Alvarez went on ESPN Madison, making his distaste for this behavior clear. While we agree that it’s good to support your favorite teams even when they struggle, there’s more nuance to this. Todd walks us through the surprisingly far-reaching consequences of a struggling college sports program and asks Badger fans whether or not these chants cross a line.
At the bottom of the hour, Todd turns back to a topic that has been escalating since the assassination of Charlie Kirk: free speech. In yesterday’s show, we broke the news that Jimmy Kimmel will return to the airwaves tonight after being “indefinitely suspended” under what appears to be government coercion. Some TV networks have chosen to stick by that original decision and will not carry his show. Even though Kimmel is back on air, this attack on free speech is not over. Todd shares his thoughts, as well as those of other late night hosts.
