Now, like when I was growing up, the big thing was to go to Fort Dells, Fort Dells, which was kind of a, you know, a made up Western, you know, Fort where you had
quote-unquote real shootouts with with cops and robbers and they had like cap guns and and they'd like put on shows in the middle of the of the thing and there was a train you would ride around so there's Fort Dell's and there was biblical gardens where you would go around they have like all like the different vignettes of biblical times and you walk through that there was also it was called the spot where it was come some sort of a
of a sham I'm sure but like it was built on the side of a hill so like when you were in there it appeared that your gravity wasn't working right the wonder spot that's what it was called and then of course when I was growing up the big thing was the Tommy Bartlett ski sky and stage show and it ended every in the evenings it ended with Tommy Bartlett's Densing Waters where it have it was super cool because it was all these great skiers and it was kind of an amphitheater
right on land that looked onto the water, Lake Dalton.
And then at the end, it was dark and they had, I don't know what it was, but it was like some sort of fountain next to the stage of the water.
And it would shoot up water and the water to go back and forth and all these lights and be patriotic music and fireworks.
And then in later years, a big laser show as well.
And now, unfortunately, after the passing of Tommy Bartlett and then his protege Tom Deal, a huge name and entity in the Dells who just recently passed away.
And unfortunately, it is no longer the robot world is still a thing.
But Tommy Bartlett's ski sky and stage show.
And so now now is not so much that stuff.

And then you wake up tomorrow and your candidate has lost by a couple of hundred votes Could happen By the way, we got a text earlier Well, I'll go to that in a minute.

quite confusing, but quite the joke.
I also
want to get serious about voting.
I know a lot of people do mail-in ballots.
and I encourage them to go online on the site that you said, my vote, and check to make sure that their ballots have been received.
If they've mailed later, some things happen in the mail too, their ballots may not have been received, and they still have time to get out and vote, to go vote.
And they can do that even though they've sent in a mail-in ballot that will just be held up at the end.
So it's important to make sure your vote is counted.

Todd, I say, I just had an interesting experience this morning.
I dropped off my daughter's absentee ballot in person to the city clerk in Berkfield.
Heard the instructions on the envelope, drop it off by 8 p.m.
voting day tonight.
She's a freshman of the University of Minnesota.
Well, I was immediately asked, is it my ballot?
And I honestly answered, no, it's my daughter's.
And they said, oh, we can't take it.
It has to go through the mail.
So, believe it or not, I had to go across the street to the Brookfield Post Office.
I had a very nice talk with somebody there.
They said, well, you know, we'll post market right now.
They have been delivering some across the street, you know, some ballots.
But the guy who said there's a good chance it would get over there.
He couldn't guarantee it.
But just think of this, how crazy it is.
I'm standing there at the city clerk with an FV ballot by 8 a.m.
on election day, and I was told because it was not my ballot, my daughter's, okay, she had to be there in person to drop it off.
You know, they were not able to take that ballot.
They had to go across the street and hope that the post office will.
get it back across the street.
I just find that very ironic.
I was very nice to the woman at the city of Berkfield.
I just said, well, you just disenfranchised my daughter.
She said, no, we did it.
And I said, well, I believe it disenfranchised the vote, but I went across the street and had a nice conversation.
And
they're going to try to get it literally across the street.
I appreciate this call, Jim.
And I understand your frustration, most likely your daughter's frustration as well.
I'm not an attorney.
You might want to call in.
I believe Maggie Dawn is back next hour.
She is an attorney, but I believe the poll worker, what they told you is correct.
I think that is we might not like it or agree with it, but I believe that is the Wisconsin law.
So again, the poll is not the poll workers fault.
They they're just following the law as it's written and what they're instructed to do with it.

You know again, I get the frustration that is the law I'm glad you got it to the post office and hopefully they can get it across the street and deliver it and having postmarked it should it should still count But I appreciate the call Jim.

I Really do find what Jim was saying is so true.

you know we have polls that say one thing we have before elections are even all the votes are counted we are declaring winners i think these things are all voter suppression i really do i think that we should not be um saying who won an election until every single ballot is counted and that includes anybody that you know has it in the mail in the post office
If our vote is supposed to mean so much, then you know what?
We should not be calling elections until every vote is actually counted.

Somebody who's in the media business and was in the political business for a long time, I wouldn't want that.
I mean, you put in all this work and everything, and it's not like people are just saying, oh, I'm doing this with my gut.
The Associated Press, and that's what we'll use tonight,
Dan Schaefer and I on our coverage will use the Associated Press and there is a formula they have it is computerized to the point where they have all the past election totals they know all the available voters out there and they use that to say all right are there basically they say in calling the election even if the other candidate got 90 percent of the votes which
Almost never happens, but they got 90% of the out vote or the vote that's not counted yet Would that make a difference in the final outcome and that's I broke it down in very simplistic terms But that's basically how they quote a quote call an election now in presidential elections some places use was called exit polling
So they have the reporters and people standing outside the voting place.
And when people come out, they ask them and you're just kind of relying on whether they're telling you the truth.
Some networks will use a combination of exit polling and the data from the AP that I just explained.
We here tonight at Civic will use the AP vote.
And if there are other sources out there where we're hearing things, we'll report it as such.
I get the point, Tom.
I get the sentiment.
But once eight o'clock comes,
The ultimate vote isn't going to change, right?
I mean, the votes are in and those votes will be counted.

I won't predict, I guess, an actual winner.
I mean, heck.
I thought I thought Harris was going to win in the fall.
I'll say this from what I'm seeing in Madison media that reporters who have reported on polling sites in Madison before were reported earlier this morning that there seemed to be a heavier turnout than normal.
Or I should say closer to a general election turnout in terms of lines, the amount of lines at the polls.
Take that for what it's worth.
There's also been a tremendous amount of early voting.
I'm not sure I talked I guess I was on J Matt Nair's program this morning with Greg Matt Nair on air every morning from 10 until noon, which precedes us It was talking about Joe Hendrick former Republican here in the state of Wisconsin Former Republican legislator who is known for his accuracy and his acumen of looking at political numbers and he broke down the early voting in Wisconsin by by region
And he kind of he bases it on how people have voted before, not just on a gut feeling.
So he took the blue counties in Wisconsin, which are Milwaukee, Rock, Dane, Green, Iowa, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Portage, Menominee, and then up North, Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas in those counties.
Hendrick reports that there are 84,000 plus
more raw votes at this point in terms of of early voting than there was in 2023.
Now, we don't know who we're just saying in those counties that more often go blue, 84,000 voters more than in 2023.
Now, obviously, some of those people that vote in blue counties are going to vote for Schimel.
But so this is 47% increase in what Hendrick calls based on voting patterns are blue counties then in the red Let's do the purple ones first the swing counties and he includes that as door County the thumb of Wisconsin then basically is called the Valley the Fox Valley Brown out of gamey and Winnebago the bow counties Green Bay, Appleton, Nina, Menasha, Oshkosh
also includes, we'll call them kind of the Touch Counties of Eau Claire, Pearson Dunn to the West, Jackson Dunn to the South.
Then my neck of the woods, Southwest Wisconsin basically, from Vernon County down to the Illinois border over to basically the Dells, and then you've got Racine and Kenosha.
So in those purple counties, you have 50,000 more votes, early voting.
than in 2023, or a 59% increase.
And then all of the rest of the counties, he calls those the red counties, every place else in Wisconsin, and those have an overall vote, early voting of 100,000 votes more than in 2023, or a 67% gain.
So on the face of it, you say, well, the red counties are voting more
Often earlier there are more.
There's an increase in red counties voted early versus 2023 Which probably is good for chivalry, but Those are also the least populated counties other than what we call the wild counties of walkie-shot Ozaki and Washington basically right to the west and northwest of Milwaukee so
although they may have more votes of greater percentage, it doesn't translate necessarily directly into votes.
I'm getting very nuanced, but hey, you asked.
So what does all this mean?
It means that we're probably, based on tangential reporting today and the early vote, probably going to see more votes than for the protest sandwich race, which on the face of it, well, that's great for Democrats.
Yeah, probably.
But in recent elections, not always.
More people voted in the fall in Wisconsin in the presidential election than ever before.
But that didn't turn out so great for Harris.
So the big question is going to be tonight, in my opinion, particularly in the Fox Valley, Brown, out of game and Winnebago does.
Is Brad Schimmel able to do better there and win back those areas that Dan Kelly lost to protest a which a couple of years ago?
That's really I think it's gonna come down to there maybe a little bit around the tangential counties around Eau Claire and then Kenosha So that that's a political science breakdown for you and the other thing is this DPI race Don't necessarily be surprised tonight
If the Republican-backed candidate, Brittney Kinzer, defeats the incumbent supported by the Democratic Party, Dr. Jill Underly.
Why do I say that?
Last week, former Democratic Madison Mayor Dave Cheslevich endorsed Kinzer, as did on Sunday, the Wisconsin State Journal.
And I think the Underly just has some problems.
She has not been a terrific candidate.
They haven't run a great campaign.
They basically campaigned on lowering test scores in Wisconsin.
Governor Tony Evers, who held the DPI position for three terms before he became governor, a fellow Democrat, refused to endorse under Lee in the general election.
I apparently there's some personal bad blood.
I'm not exactly sure.
I'm not a Democrat, so I don't know why.
I think, and not to say that Dave Treslevice, Mayor Dave, and this Wisconsin State Journal are going to change the election, but I think it's indicative of a split, a fractured, a disgruntled, whatever word you want to use, democratic base in Wisconsin as we're seeing across the country.
As my friend Trigvie also likes to say, Republicans talk in narrative and Democrats talk in policy too often.
Now on the flip side of that, I think that Judge Crawford has closed a remarkable race.
I think she's only drawn drawn gone stronger in her clothes and the amount of nasty Misleading flat-out lie ads being run by the shimmer campaign against Judge Crawford tells me as a former political operative You don't close that way unless you feel you have to based on the numbers you're seeing
or you've got nothing to lose.
So we'll see.
We'll see tomorrow when we come back on the air.
And again, for everyone out there, two things.
A, don't be surprised if we don't have a call tonight.
It may be that close where it goes to an automatic recount.
Nothing wrong with that.

All right, I want to get to this story I talked about earlier.
And we've mentioned this on the show before.
You've heard about here a couple of weeks ago, the Trump administration rounded up through ICE.
About 300 people put them on planes to El Salvador, said that they were here illegally, said they were all part of this Venezuelan gang.
And now it has come out.
And yesterday, the Trump administration has finally confirmed at least one person who was rounded up that should not have been.
And there are further reports that there are several people that were rounded up.
And because Trump and his Department of Justice did not follow due process, people that were otherwise innocent had been sent to El Salvador.
And again, El Salvador has become for me like a second home.
I won't tell the whole story again, but I've been going there for almost 30 years.
Been there 39.
times.
You will not find kinder, nicer people than Salvadorans.
You won't find more beautiful beaches or better food.
But this guy who is their president, Naid Bukeli, is the playbook for Donald Trump.
He did an end run around their constitution, got a second term when he should not have.
He took over the court system.
He has suppressed and basically taken over, intimidated the press in El Salvador.
The country is still under martial law and yes crime has gone down dramatically and he has improved the infrastructure But he brags about beating a dictator he calls himself a cool dictator naib bukele And he set up this prison system that is all kinds of humanitarian things that are wrong with it They literally stack people on top of each other in not I mean there's like these these metal Floors between them and these massive cells
It looks like big dog kennels.
And now even even somebody like Joe Rogan from the right is calling Trump out about this.
From the Hill publication headline, Joe Rogan, horrific, the innocent people could be swept up in El Salvador's deportations.
Podcaster Joe Rogan said his quote, horrific.
The innocent people could be swept up by the Trump administration's effort to deport gang members and send them to El Salvador's notoriously dangerous mega prison.
Rogan in a podcast released on Saturday praised Donald Trump for lowering the number of illegal migrant crossings in the southern border, but he expressed concern that the Trump administration's policy of deporting people it claims to be affiliated with gangs could be targeting non-criminals.
Rogan said quote the thing is like
You gotta get scared that people who are not criminals are getting, you know, like, lassoed up and deported, instead to, like, El Salvador prisons, unquote.
Yeah, Joe, like, that's not good.

Want to just wrap up here talking about this story in the Hill about conservative podcaster Joe Rogan.
Even Rogan is calling out Trump
on these deportations that have swept up across the country, put them on planes, sent them to El Salvador.
Judge ordered them to turn the planes around.
Trump ignored it and now is being evasive with the Department of Justice and not wanting to follow due process.
And the point here is not about.
Look, I don't want bad people here, quoting.
I don't want criminals here, convicted criminals.
If they're if they're not here legally.
But there is a due process something called habeas corpus There is a way to do that because every person on us soil has in fact whether people like it or not certain rights And you have to follow due process because then the due process protects the innocent And we never know when the innocent might be you and me
So conservative podcaster Joe Rogan even he calling out Donald Trump in this story in the Hill Rogan pointed to recent reporting about several people not Affiliated with gangs getting set to the mega prison because they had tattoos and were not given the chance to defend themselves before going to a judge He mentioned specifically an example of the quote-unquote gay barber He said quote.
It's horrific.

who did land to interview with Trump last year.
Rogan agreed with his podcast guest who said, quote, a human being being plucked out of nowhere and ending up in a country he's never been in in a maximum security prison with a gang member seems like a bad thing to happen, unquote.

The guest added said, I don't think that should be controversial.
Joe Rogan said, no, that's not controversial at all.
Rogan suggested that the Trump administration should be more diligent not to make these kinds of errors saying, quote, it's bad for the cause when horrific mistakes get in the way of the goal.
Rogan said, the thing is, you know, measure it twice, cut once.
And this is kind of crazy that this could be possible.
That's horrific.
And that's again, that's bad for the cause.
Rogan said the cause quote the cause is let's get the gang members out everybody agrees but let's not innocent gay hairdressers get lumped in with gangs Rogan said he went on to say this and then like how long before that guy could get out can we figure it out can we get him out is there any plan or place to alert the authorities that they made a horrible mistake and correct it unquote
To answer Rogan the Trump administration saying last night and today that no There's basically not a way to do that because guess what?

Several of my fairly famous colleagues have disclosed they no longer vote as a way of maintaining their neutrality as journalists.
I admire their objective, but I don't understand their reasoning.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my job, but it is a job.
I wouldn't equate it with voting, which to me is my duty as a citizen, like paying the water bill.
I remember reading the rise and fall of the Third Reich as a young man and how surprised I was to learn the Nazis had used an election as a springboard to power.
And I lived in Germany then.
I hope I could have voted against them.
I wouldn't have wanted to be neutral on that one.
Besides voting is just so much fun as a reporter.
I have to back up what I say with facts, but I need to give no reason, marshal, no argument for why I voted the way I did.
Maybe I just didn't like the candidate's attitude.
That's reason enough to vote against him.
Or maybe I found a candidate really qualified.
That's a good reason to vote for him.
It is my vote and I can exercise it any way I choose, but no candidate gets my vote unless I believe he or she deserves it.
We take voting so seriously at my house.
My wife has instructed me not to tell even her who I voted for.
She's afraid I'll disappoint her.
Oh, ye of little faith.
But isn't that the best part?
We can tell everyone or no one.
So go vote.
