Guests: David May, Paul Malloy, Shannon Hellenbrand

We are honored to welcome Brigadier General David May of the Wisconsin Air National Guard back to the program! Brig. Gen. May is now Wisconsin’s Interim Adjutant General and responsible for Emergency Management. He also serves as Wisconsin’s Homeland Security Advisor, chairs the Homeland Security Council, and serves as the senior state official for cyber matters. He updates us on something big that may be coming to Wisconsin! The 128th Air Refueling Wing is competing to convert to the brand-new KC-46 aircraft. This is a tremendous update from the KC-135, but only one state will make the switch at this time. Listen in for the differences, and stay tuned to discover if we get it in Wisconsin!

Also, if you’re a longtime listener, you may remember that Brig. Gen. May is a huge music lover, so we hear a few more hits from his playlist throughout the hour.

As per usual, the General brought some friends! We introduce Paul Malloy, Director of Education from the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and Lieutenant Colonel Shannon Hellenbrand of the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

LTC Shannon Hellenbrand focuses on recruitment and what it’s like to be a woman in the US military. Opportunities for women to grow and show how awesome they are have never been better, and she’s living proof of that. The Army National Guard has given her the confidence to overcome anything, and she wants nothing more than for other young women to have access to the same incredible opportunities.

Every summer in Oshkosh, the EAA hosts AirVenture, a week-long celebration of aviation! Civic Media will be there covering it, and Todd will make a stop during the week as well. Paul Malloy tells us all about the incredible sights, sounds, and educational opportunities available. If EAA AirVenture sounds interesting to you, bring your family! Kids under 18 get in for free, and there are tons of events geared toward a younger audience. There’s nothing quite like AirVenture, so head on over to eaa.org to learn more. Additionally, if you know any kids from kindergarten to high school who want to learn more about aviation for free, check out AeroEducate! It’s a fantastic program for kids to have fun while learning real skills for a potential future in flying. Visit AeroEducate.org to check it out.

If you’re interested in learning how you can serve your country, you can reach out online. Head over to goang.com for the Air National Guard or nationalguard.com for the Army National Guard. If you have a passion, there’s a way you can serve. Representatives will also be attending AirVenture.
