Welcome to the program today is Friday, October 23rd, 2026.

It is not too early for me to start planning what I would say are my best.

They're the most fun, most exciting radio programs of the year.

It's when we do the year in review and whatever program that I have that is closest to.

The last work day of the year somewhere around New Year's Eve.

I think that we have off on New Year's Eve if I recall correctly I've probably worked a New Year's Eve or two in the past done a radio show But I think for the most part we are we're not on air.

So maybe it's somewhere around December 30th where we Basically review all the things that took place in the calendar year and so many things happen any year ladies and gentlemen I guarantee you there will be things that we will discuss

During that last week of December that took place during the calendar year of 2026 and you would have sworn it happened several years ago So many things so much breaking news so many things switching and turning direction.

I am starting to put together My end of the year program already and we still got a couple little few months left out of the year where strange things are likely going to continue to happen But just take a snapshot just where we are right now the political things

Aside Donald Trump and the economy and the war that we got into in February of this year and the impact that that's having in the Tariffs in the trade war that probably is going to find a place in a space in my year in review radio program because those things have had a profound impact on people in this country the number of folks who are being kicked off of their Health insurance whether it be the extended subsidies for the Affordable Care Act

or reductions in cuts in Medicare and Medicaid funding so that Donald Trump can give his very wealthy friends a bit of a tax break.

I'm sure those things will probably fit as well.

But I would like to think that the majority of what we are going to talk about when we look back glowingly on the year that is 2026 is.

the fact that David Crowley very well could get elected governor.

I'm going to talk about that today and his debate performance of what I believe it translated into.

And it's more than just increased political campaign donations.

It's more than just people talking about the debate on social media.

There are other tangible results to that debate performance.

I think we're going to be talking about that.

And I know that we're going to be talking about these here Milwaukee Brewers because I firmly believe that they are going to win the World Series and there's so much happening in the city.

So this is the Friday where we do the truth weekend guide.

It's all sports.

I'm just going to tell you right now.

It's where to watch where to park different shuttles.

the debacle if you try to get watch party tickets which were supposed to be $15 then they went to $100 then they went to $400 I understand it literally is a once in a lifetime event for our small little very segregated overwhelmingly too poor on certain sides of the city little po-dunk town but we're being showcased

Internationally and I think that this is a good thing.

Let's make sure that we're still mindful of the problems that we have in this city But when we can get a global spotlight on this town because of our sluggers, well, then let's take advantage of it.

Shall we?

I've got a bone to pick Mostly because I'm incredibly selfish and I want to go to the world series I want to go to every single game.

I can't I can't get tickets.

I can't or

Then put it in a different way.

I'm not spending.

I'm not.

I can't do that.

I can't spend that kind of money.

I can't do it.

I can't do it.

I have a story.

That shows.

Exactly how extreme this situation is in this city.

If you want to get a ticket to the world series, I mean, the actual game, not a watch party.

Hell, you can't even get watch party tickets.

It's cheaper.

more efficient and more economical, to fly to Tampa, have transportation from the airport to your hotel, book a hotel room, buy a ticket to game three or four, have transportation back to your hotel room, eat, hop on your flight the next day and go home than it is.

So that whole package.

is about $700 less expensive than just buying a single ticket game here in the city of Milwaukee.

I think the cheapest I've seen is like $24.95, but then parking is $77.

Here's the problem that I have, and I have many.

We subsidize, taxpayers do, the five-serve form of the bucks a home opener is today.

Nobody cares.

Nobody cares that the bucks

are starting their home, their season at home today.

In fact, the Bucks moved the start time of their game.

The Bucks were supposed to play at seven.

They moved it up to three o'clock because they knew.

That if they kept their regularly scheduled time of starting the Bucks home opener game at it with a tip off of seven o'clock No one would have been there cert The Bucks may not have even been there for their home opener because they would have been watching the world series So the Bucks play the Chicago Bulls today at three o'clock They move the game up tip off is at three instead of seven because they want to make way for the

Game one of the world series, but the bone that I have to pick is this so we subsidized The five serve forum and I was very much involved in the fight To try and convince people that it it is a good idea for taxpayers to chip in To build a new arena.

I think at the end of the day it was worth it We ended up getting an NBA championship out of it and the additional revenue that came to the city paid the taxpayers back and then some

For what they contributed to build the Pfizer form here's where we got screwed Tremendous amount of income a lot of people were coming to Milwaukee getting hotel rooms renting cars going to games going out to eat going to bars and drinking Spending a lot of money and all of those things for the most part are taxed but those taxes go to Madison

So we had increased activity increased excitement increased spending in the city of Milwaukee that only the city of Milwaukee itself could provide because you can't go watch a bucks game in person anywhere else.

But here you see not to mention every single professional sports player.

That plays a game in the city of Milwaukee and I believe that American Family Field is the city of Milwaukee.

Some people say it's West Alice, it's West Milwaukee, but I think it's still considered.

City of Milwaukee.

I think about this if I'm gonna use round numbers here if the average NBA player makes two hundred thousand dollars per game If that is what the average is Every game that they play both the home and visiting team they are required to pay a six percent Wisconsin income tax per game that they play

Do the math on that so that means that each player if they average $200,000 a game is paying $12,000 per player per game While they are playing in Milwaukee baseball probably add a zero onto that so that's revenue that is made that is created Right here in the city of Milwaukee because we have the damn arenas now the arenas are very expensive

But worth subsidizing with our taxpayer dollars because every time a team plays every time a player collects a salary from playing in Milwaukee, we get a piece of that money.

Madison gets a piece of that money.

So the Republicans withholding our fair amount of shared revenue actually hurt the city of Milwaukee and they took the money that was raised here from people coming to bucks games and brewers games and all of the additional spending and all of the additional taxes and all of the taxes, income taxes and all the player salaries.

Madison decided to give a larger share of that money to other counties and to other cities, mostly red counties and red cities than they did the city of Milwaukee.

That is why the city is in the shape that it's in, why we don't have the revenue that we have.

And that is why we were required to raise our taxes.

And it's political because when our taxes went up, when our sales taxes went up here in the county and the city of Milwaukee, the Republicans knew exactly what they were doing.

They were going to take.

A large share of the money that was generated from the amenities that we have here in Milwaukee.

They're going to take that money that we were able to collect or we were able to get from the things happening in Milwaukee.

They're going to divvy that money up amongst their little pet projects and their rural conservative towns and put money into schools and some of these low red cities.

And then Milwaukee is starving and Milwaukee is left having to tax its people even though we have the money.

We're actually a rich city, believe it or not.

We are.

But this is why Republican control of the legislature has hurt this city because when we see our taxes going up Property taxes going up sales taxes going up.

What are the Republicans doing?

They're blaming David Crowley They're playing politics with us They are the reasons why our taxes went up and they know that we are much more likely to blame our local elected officials than blame Republicans in Madison They control the budget.

I just want folks to be mindful of this

So when we agreed and there wasn't a handshake deal essentially between Herb Cole the new Ownership of the Bucks this goes back to 2016 2017 and the taxpayers they're gonna put in some money Herb Cole is gonna put in some money the taxpayers are gonna put in some money They gave us all the revenue models.

Hey if the Bucks do this amount of ticket sales and this year Here's how much money we're gonna generate it actually was worth it in that calculation.

Nobody thought the Bucks will win a championship

Money came flooding into the city.

Milwaukee barely saw a goddamn penny because the Republicans have robbed us.

And that's why it was real tough for me to talk to Shondling yesterday.

I've known that woman for a very long time, but why she decided to run for the assembly as a Republican because she is tied to the legislative action that has stolen money from this city and this city is starving and we shouldn't be got a goddamn world series in our city right now.

Now here's the good news.

Oh, that's going to late generate a lot of revenue to.

Oh.

We there's white people coming from everywhere.

You know what's funny is they're typically afraid of Milwaukee.

I don't want to go to Milwaukee.

It's so violent and it's so dangerous.

I don't like to go to Milwaukee.

Sherwin Hughes

Wait.

So you see all these goddamn cars flooding in from 43 and from 94.

They ain't scared of Milwaukee tonight.

I guarantee you that now all this is going to make it into my

Year in review program.

I'm gonna do the last week of December I'm just giving you a bit of a preview now because we got a monumental year ahead of us and one behind us actually If David Crowley wins and I'm gonna give you a scenario in which he can doesn't mean he will But I'm gonna give you a scenario in which he can and if he does the revenue that will be generated

From this world series run just as an example not to mention all the other things that we have in this city that generate revenue That money with a democratic control legislature, which we need to More of that money will return to this city where we will have more of a say so on where it gets invested That's when you lean on your older person When the city has this additional revenue because the democratic legislature will understand

far better than a Republican one.

If you invest in Milwaukee, all of the boats around the state will lift instead of stealing and robbing Milwaukee.

OK.

OK.

That being said, the price gouging for tickets is offensive because the taxpayers are subsidizing American family field.

I don't care what the game is.

I don't care if it's a regular season game.

Hell I don't care if it's cactus league People should be able to afford To go to a baseball game in a city in which their taxes are subsidizing that stadium if a developer wants to build an apartment building and They get some money they get some grants from the federal government.

You know the federal government requires

They require a certain number of units in that apartment building to be available for folks who don't have high income, subsidized housing.

A lot of these big tall apartment buildings and high rises, there are people that live in that, and you would never know it because we think the Section 8 people are all African-Americans that are walking around smoking marijuana.

While that may be true.

The number of well to do looking white people, Asian people and Latino people that also get section eight will blow your mind.

Here's the thing.

They don't talk about it.

They don't discuss it with nobody.

And they don't look the part.

And so when some of these buildings are built, these apartment buildings, because you know that this current mayor and the previous mayor.

They really wanted to increase the housing stock and even Kamala Harris made mention of that when she was running in 2024 Oh, by the way, I think she's gonna be here next week for David Crowley Don't know if that's a good idea or not because she she lost Wisconsin.

So all right, whatever you got to do David to win Hope it hope it works didn't work the last time she was here.

She lost everything but that's that's cool We're just at a war and tariff war and Donald Trump is looking at men's butts.

No, no, no, it's fine Kamala.

I'm not mad at you or anything because it wasn't your fault

Or was it?

Oh, Kamala, please don't mess it up for us because Kamala also endorsed Mandela Barnes for the U.S.

Senate in twenty twenty two and he ain't when Kamala endorsed herself in twenty twenty four.

She ain't when now Kamala is coming for David.

OK, I'm going to relax.

Plausible scenario in which David Crowley could potentially win and maybe we'll get to that in a little while I hope he does would make for a monumental year So these apartment buildings get built and these developers are like hey federal government We want to because the federal government wants more houses built too because housing is too expensive Because our housing stock in the United States of America is not commensurate with The demand I saw a statistic that shocked me.

I'm gonna tell you this.

I'm gonna take break The average age

of a first home purchase is 40.

Most mortgages are 30 years.

These folks are not going to have their house is on average.

People are not going to have their home, their first home paid off until they're 70 years old.

That's a long time.

About a generation ago, so roughly when I was coming of age, the average age.

of a first-time home buyer was 29.

The price of housing has been pushed so high, mostly because of demand.

Another thing that's going on in our society, it's just greed.

What we're seeing, ladies and gentlemen, a lot of this price gouging that we're seeing, it's greed.

These brewer's tickets are greed.

People are greedy.

They're gouging people.

They're ripping people off, and only a small segment of people can afford to live the good life these days.

If you're rich, you're partying every single night.

I have a couple of rich friends, and I hate them and love them at the same time.

Sherman, what do you mean you can't join us to be in Tampa for all two weeks of the world series?

What do you mean you can't afford to fly back and forth with us on a private jet?

What do you mean, Sherman?

Are you one of the pours?

Yes, I am, clearly.

If the taxpayers are subsidizing a sports arena, there needs to be tickets set aside that are $5 and I don't care if it's for the World Series.

Just like we'll subsidize housing and apartment units whenever there's taxpayer money involved in building those units because developers will go to the federal government, they'll go to state government, they'll go to WETA and say, hey, can we have some money to build this building?

And the government will say yes, but here's what you got to do.

Reserve 15%, 20%, or 30%.

of your units for people that don't make a lot of money.

And that's usually the deal.

We're going to have to start doing that with some of these these sports tickets because this is insane.

I'm taking a break.

Come back.

I'm going to tell you how far you have to go in order to get a World Series ticket.

I've been going really far.

I'll donate.

Well, I don't know.

Do I need two testicles?

You don't need.

You don't need to.

Do you?

I mean, for symmetry, it's not like bio because I don't

Because I don't need the testicles to do what testicles do you know I mean to produce the sperms so I would I Would borrow somebody a testicle.

I don't know if I'd want it back though Somebody So if I if I went to the doctor and they took out my left one or maybe my right it doesn't matter and it gave it to somebody else and Then I get a brewers ticket for that, but then when the world series is over I get it.

I don't think I'd want it back

We'll discuss that and everything else under the Sun on the other side you were listening to the truth with Sherwin Hughes on a game one World Series Friday don't go anywhere.

I'll be right back

I'm going to give you some details of the dozens of watch parties throughout the city.

If you are not fortunate enough to be able to attend Game One of the World Series tonight at 7 p.m.

There are plenty of places.

In fact, some of the watch parties at different bars and restaurants and parks are going to start at noon.

Hell, I don't even know if I'm going to go home after my show.

I might just stay out in the damn

streets.

I might not sleep tonight.

I might just stay awake until game two.

Sherwin Hughes

Brewers are gonna go up to nothing.

You mark my words.

But there's a story here that appears via our local CBS affiliate that shows not just the good in our community, but also the extent and the difficulty of obtaining

Tickets to see the Milwaukee Brewers.

From CBS58.com, a Brewers World Series run couldn't come at a more meaningful time for a Brookfield woman.

Lindsay DiNardo was supposed to be in the stands for the Brewers run against the Dodgers until breast cancer surgery changed her plans.

Now a surprise from her care team is giving her a chance to be there.

for one of the biggest moments in sports.

For Donato, baseball has always been about more than just the game.

It's about the memories she made with her dad.

Then came the routine mammogram.

Less than a year later, found out she had breast cancer.

She said she was heartbroken.

In early October, Lindsey underwent a mastectomy.

Her strength hasn't gone unnoticed by her care team.

So this time the doctors had a different kind of prescription for Lindsay They surprised her with tickets to go see game one of the world series.

You got to survive breast cancer To get to get a pair of tickets to the world series.

That's that's where we're at.

You have to Have a have your breasts cut off which Again as a man, I'm not making light of this.

In fact, this is a beautiful story of a woman who overcame

Cancer and she's a she's okay.

She's not in remission.

She's gonna go to the game.

She's fine But but this is what you have to have Breast cancer quote I Get to cure cancer for a living not many people get to say say that said dr. Nicole's them Reba a health breast care surgeon at Aurora

It's a chance to trade the hospital room for the ballpark and cheer on the team She loves for Lindsey DiNardo the best part is knowing her family is gonna be right there with her quote I mean, I don't think I know anybody else that would beat two different cancers in the same year and still be able to Be happy to live their life.

It's cuz she's getting World Series tickets.

So you got to get cancer twice I don't even see an article.

She got a second cancer

Geez, that is a really hefty price to pay for World Series tickets.

But at the end of the day, right?

If you beat the cancer, yay.

And then you're rewarded with World Series tickets.

You might look back at the cancer and be like, eh, wasn't that bad?

That's probably scary at first.

This is nothing to joke around about, because I got cancer everywhere in my family.

In fact, on my dad's side of the family.

Everybody died of cancer.

I'm just waiting on my diagnosis.

What should I do?

Should I like exercise more eat more?

Green leafy vegetables.

I don't eat a lot of green leafy vegetables because I've been warned about getting salads at restaurants because they don't oftentimes wash the different vegetables the vegetables the vegetations

In the salad, I've heard the salads and so whenever you hear about like a E coli outbreak, it's like the lettuce at Chipotle for a while.

They weren't serving lettuce at Taco Bell.

There's something about the green vegetables, the leafy green that they have the bacterias in them.

And so I've been warned and I go out to eat.

I don't want to say a lot, but definitely enough.

And I have been told if you're a frequent diner.

To avoid salads now for the most part they're okay.

They're clean, but every now and again you hear about oh you got to Return this brand of bag lettuce back to the grocery store for a full refund because it's got a little salmonella And it's got a little taste of the E. Coli in it Maybe it's got some little autism flakes in it, but it's usually green leafy vegetables But I don't I don't want to get the cancer, but if I do get the cancer and I happen to beat it

Hope the brewers in the world series at that time and take a break come back I want to give you guys a couple of scenarios in which I do believe that a David Crowley could very well potentially Be the next governor in the state of Wisconsin now I don't want to say that and have some of you think that you don't need to vote you do I'm also going to make a plea

And I probably should follow my own advice because the current Attorney General of the United States made it clear that he is not objective He is not the lawyer for the people of the United States.

He said he works for Donald Trump Period point blank and unabashedly so if Trump wants to challenge or question the validity of a number of US Senate and house races

We have a U.S.

Attorney General that will listen to the president over listening to the will of the people and our actual votes.

They are going to cheat and they're telling us.

We didn't believe them about Project 2025 until we saw its impact.

They're not playing with us.

They will cheat.

They will lie.

Donald Trump has more compliant people around him now.

Than he ever has before and he built it brick by brick The only way that I believe That we can counteract what may happen the day is following Election day is if our votes are already cast prior to election day.

I'm an election day voter I always have been I probably always will be but there's something very unique about what is going on right now I shouldn't say it was unique because we got a taste of it

January 6, 2021, but I'm encouraging people to vote early and take a break, come back and give you the early vote totals as of yesterday.

So those totals, I believe reflected David Crowley's fantastic debate performance and the numbers are actually looking good.

We'll talk about that next.

You're listening to the truth.

Sherwin Hughes on 101.7

FM, I'll be right back.

Oh lady B said yesterday's show was fire.

Thank you

I never know how these shows go.

I'm just happy to get through them.

It was eventful, played some clips from the debate, where I think that David Crowley overperformed.

He overperformed because, so you can't look at, you know, a debate is, obviously people are biased.

You went into it, if you watched it, with expectations for your candidate.

Tom Tiffany is, he's not an exciting guy, but he doesn't have to be.

So here's the thing about MAGA.

MAGA is...

is fueled by the boisterousness and the narcissism of Donald Trump and the Donald Trump Empire and the Donald Trump control of media.

I was looking at just the last like 40 years, right?

Donald Trump was in a Bobby Brown video for the Ghostbusters soundtrack.

Donald Trump has been on the lifestyle of rich and famous, this show where we

Druled over wealthy people like he has been a piece of the tabloid action in the United States of America going back to the late 1970s He is just ubiquitous and popular culture and there's some fascination that Americans have with that There's some fascination we have with not normal celebrity, but a weird skewed kind of celebrity like Denzel Washington Could not get elected president

But Jesse the body Ventura a professional wrestler that used to have used to wear makeup and and wear feather boas and Pink leotards could get elected Governor of Minnesota Arnold Schwarzenegger who wasn't even born in America could run as a Republican and get elected

to the state of California, the largest state in the union, a state that's so big that California's economy is like 10th or 12th in the world.

And Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'll be back.

I'll get to the chopper, not even an American.

It's weird celebrity that gets elected.

So Maga has a draw.

It has that weird celebrity that some Americans

are fascinated with.

But the candidates, they don't have that kind of charisma.

Yesterday, I discussed this phenomenon that is happening, and none of this stuff is on accident.

All of it is planned out.

Republicans are not debating Democrats.

All over the country, they're canceling debates.

They're not responding to debate invitations right here in Wisconsin.

We were supposed to have at least two.

There was one that was scheduled for, like, the first or maybe the second week of October.

Tom Tiffany set a scheduling conflict.

You ain't got no schedule, man.

Your schedule is talking to and debating your opponent.

That's what your schedule is doc He's he said no scheduling conflict.

So they did agree to do The debate that we saw on Wednesday and I think that it was done reluctantly But I gave a list of Republicans all over the country.

They can't debate the Democrats because they have nothing to debate Maga is fixed.

We know what it is.

It's xenophobic.

It's racist.

It's anti DEI.

It's anti affirmative action

It's slashing the federal government.

It's giving opportunities and benefits to people that didn't ask for them and didn't need them.

It's a grift.

It's stealing from the American people.

It's lying.

It's getting involved in foreign wars.

It's Donald Trump doing whatever he wants to do with no checks and balances whatsoever.

If you're a Democrat, you would love to talk to someone who is running on that platform because it's easy.

The Republicans can't risk the losses.

in these debates.

And so they're not debating at all.

But Donald Trump actually started that trend in 2024 because during that presidential election cycle, Donald Trump didn't debate anybody because there was a Republican primary.

Donald Trump was able to win every single state and did not participate in a single debate.

Because he would have lost.

There was so much to say about him negatively.

And social media chops these debates up and these little powerful, little packaged sound bites.

Most people are not going to watch the debate because, come on, why would you?

Unless you're a junkie.

I want more people to be junkies, but most people understand their media consumption habits and they would rather scroll TikTok or Instagram or Facebook than watch an actual one hour long contest between two men arguing policy.

But what social media can do, especially with some of the creative people, like I remember back in the day where if you worked on a campaign, you were a political scientist.

That is what you knew that is what you understood that is where your degree was that was all your experience you you work for elected officials you worked on campaigns like you knew and understood the science of Politics of policy creation of how you outreach to voters This whole thing that we call GL TV, which is a whole strategy of getting out the vote It's radio commercials TV commercials.

It's canvases going and knocking on doors.

It's a whole strategy It's really a marketing campaign, but now people that are working working in campaigns more than ever are creatives

They're social media experts because they can take what is usually boring and mundane conversation about policy and they can chop it up into these little bits and these little soundbites which can further extend the impact of a candidacy and their platform.

because you can get a couple of soundbites of David Crowley going absolute ham on Tom Tiffany and then that will be the only clips that people will see of David Crowley and some folks will base their voting behavior just off of that clip that they saw where David Crowley was nailing Tom Tiffany to the crowd.

So these creatives are doing a great job and Republicans can't risk losing a debate fumbling and mumbling and looking unprepared to be in a sink of fan for Donald Trump because the internet will have their way with them.

So they are not debating.

I believe that David performed well.

He wasn't perfect.

Sometimes when you're in those moments, because I think David was prepared Tom Tiffany wasn't, which is disrespect to people in the state of Wisconsin.

As someone who gets in front of a microphone five days a week.

I prepare because the people that take time out of their schedule to listen to me, they deserve that.

I enter this studio of clear and sober mind with information to share because the people that listen deserve all of that.

I try to be unbiased, but come on.

Don't be ridiculous.

No, no, no, no, no, hold on, hold on, hold on.

I am unbiased.

I'm fair.

I talked to a black Republican lady yesterday.

And I didn't I did not know she was a Republican until recently I got an email Saying that She was gonna be sitting down with me.

I'm all fine.

I'm known Shaughlin for years I met her when she was working for Governor Evers, but I think that says a lot about Tony Evers that he would hire a Republican to lead his Milwaukee office.

She's really really qualified to do stuff

I just don't like the fact that she's running as a Republican because there's too much associated with that party.

She's above partisanship, which is great, but now is not the time to be above partisanship.

So I am fair and objective.

Who's the last time I interviewed a Republican?

Oh, my.

Gerard Randall.

You guys know who Gerard Randall is?

He's a black guy.

He's kind of ubiquitous with everything in Milwaukee.

He'd been around forever.

He used to run the...

The private industry council had a bunch of contracts with NPS.

Gerard's been around.

If you're like an insider, which most of you probably aren't, but I interviewed him and he, he came here.

I think he was here in 2021.

No, when do we move here?

2022.

To the third street market hall.

And I don't even know what the subject matter was, but I know that when he was in studio with me, and I've known Gerard for a long time too, he went full Trump.

Like full like we ended up yelling at each other by the end of the interview But he still invited me to his birthday party, which is kind of weird, but I think that was the last time I interviewed a Republican I've never have I interviewed Ron Johnson.

No, I've met him Eric Hove D. No, and I don't really talk to Republicans.

I don't know why is do they not like me Why not I'm a nice guy Okay, so should I give you locations

American Serb Hall, the Clinton Rose Senior Center, the Good Hope Library, the Marquette Alumni Union, the Midtown Voting Center, the Mitchell Street Library, Tippy Canoe Library, the UWM's Alazo Center, Villard Square Library, the Washington Park Senior Center, and of course the Zeidler Municipal Building.

Those are the places in which you can cast your vote early.

Their hours do vary.

I'm going to give you the website.

There's literally a place to vote within a mile of most residences.

In the city of Milwaukee.

So if you want to vote early and I'm really encouraging you I think I'm even gonna break down a vote early because I want my vote already cast and out of my hands by the time Election Day comes and I think these Trump folks are gonna do some foul stuff because they know they're in trouble You understand what happens if the Democrats get a majority in the Senate?

That's where they're real scared.

Let me tell you how scared they are Trump is gonna be in Mississippi You got a brother running in Mississippi his last name is Coulomb

C O L O M. I heard him last night on MS now almost want to give him money and I don't often give money to out-of-state candidates But he was so good.

Also.

I've got a personal family connection to Mississippi Cindy Hyde Smith was about as Trumpy as you can get she's the Republican senator from Mississippi and Trump won Mississippi by like 20 24 points So it shouldn't even be in play.

They're saying that this brother from Mississippi could be the first

African American US senator from Mississippi since since either The early 1980s or the 1880s Donald Trump is so worried about losing a Mississippi Senate seat I state that Trump won by 24 points imagine this Trump wins by better than 20 points in 2024 and those seats are actually in play

If the Democrats get control of the Senate Trump is cooked six ways from Sunday like he's The impeachment is a bit like the impeachment is gonna happen There's gonna be a bunch of articles of impeachment because that's what the house does the Senate Depending on some things depends on what he did the worst of what I believe Trump has done We don't even know about yet, but the Senate will investigate and the house will investigate.

There's like national security stuff going on

The conversation that Donald Trump had with Vladimir Putin, where we lifted the sanctions on a country that has nuclear weapons pointed directly at our faces so that we can buy diesel fuel from our enemy, which helps give Russia more money to fight Ukraine, which is our ally.

If that's not some of the biggest constitutional violations of national security, Donald Trump is a criminal.

And the Epstein files, that's a whole other thing.

That's a whole other set of investigations and committees that's going to be working on.

releasing the Epstein file.

They're scared to death.

Now the pardons are going to come.

Trump is going to pardon himself.

He's going to pardon his attorney general.

That's all going to happen.

But in the meantime, they're scared.

If Trump is going to Mississippi to defend a Senate seat, then that means the house is a foregone conclusion.

I saw a schematic where the best night for the Republicans, the best night they could possibly have on Tuesday, November 3rd.

This is their best scenario.

They lose the house by five seats.

That's the best scenario.

Their worst case scenario is they lose the house by 30 seats.

So it ain't looking good for them.

So they've given up on the house, but it's the Senate is what they're really worried about.

Take a break, come back.

I'm going to give you the early vote totals.

I was probably supposed to do that this segment, but whatever.

I'm excited.

The Brewer's in the World Series.

It won't be a sweep.

It'll go to game seven.

Game seven will be in Milwaukee.

It is scheduled for Saturday.

October 31st.

Yeah, that's right.

Halloween.

Also, daylight saving time ends.

So you're going to get extra drunk tonight.

Let me tell you something.

The Brewers are going to win the World Series at home on Halloween.

The city is going to be on fire.

I'm going to walk out wearing a hazmat suit or or or naked.

I don't know.

I don't know what I'm going to wear.

I'll be naked.

What are you going to do?

The Brewers won the World Series on Halloween.

I'll just say it's my costume.

Imagine seeing me naked just wearing Birkenstocks Happy Halloween the truth with Sherwin Hughes will be right back

The truth with Sherwin Hughes will be right back on the award-winning 1017 the truth live on YouTube and 101 7 the truth calm

Our phone number is 833-212-1017-833-212-1017.

I'm going to give you the daily early vote totals from, we got three days now.

First day of early vote was Tuesday.

The debate was Wednesday, so I got Wednesday totals.

Also I have Thursday totals, which I think reflect.

David Crowley's debate performer, so I'm gonna give you guys some numbers We're gonna do a little math.

I don't like doing math on the air We gotta do a little math because this election is gonna come down to math.

It's gonna be a 30,000 vote race No matter how you slice it no matter how you dice it Tom Tiffany should not be anywhere near anywhere within 30,000 votes of potentially being the next governor, but that's just

How it has been about the last 10 years pretty consistently 22 25 27 30,000 votes decide and statewide contest between Democrats and Republicans typically unless Tammy Baldwin is on the ballot Tammy just does very well.

It's interesting because even Republicans have a respect for Tammy I'm gonna do an 80-20.

Okay, that's a safe number 80%

of the early votes cast in the city of Milwaukee.

I'm not including the county.

The county gets wacky because there's conservative pockets and Republicans and while it's host of West Alice and all throughout this, it's wacky.

But the city of Milwaukee has more population as one municipality than the other 18 municipalities that make up the suburbs.

Okay.

80% of the early votes.

that will be cast at the different sites that I just mentioned in Milwaukee will be for David Crowley.

It is possible that the 30,000 votes, the margin that David Crowley needs to be victorious can come from early votes in Milwaukee.

I'm gonna dive into that scenario, but first let's talk to Marty.

You're on 101.7 Truth.

How are you?

I don't think I could be better, Sherwin.

Oh, good.

We got the

World Series.

Are you kidding me?

This is the greatest day in the city of Milwaukee's history.

I just wish that everybody was going to be partaking in it.

Because we got, as you've spoken so

eloquently about, we've got some problems in this city.

And you're talking about the money.

And that's my deal.

And you are right on.

And he just had a commercial on prior to this and talking about the billionaires.

Well, we got our own billionaire right here in town, baby, owns the Bloors.

And I'll tell you, the standing room only tickets were $80 at the box office before he got into town.

When he arrived, those standing room only tickets at the box office, which is scalping tickets for the first time in the history of the Bloors.

Those tickets were up to thirteen hundred dollars at the box office Jesus Not only that Sherwin You got to go back in time a little bit remember when the Brewers You know and their finances were a little shaky for a moment and they came to the county board the Milwaukee County Board and and said

Boy, if we could get a hold of the parking revenue, the parking revenue used to go to the county.

And the brewers came to the county board and said, boy, we really need that parking money.

10,000 parking spaces a day.

And now you say they're selling for $77 a piece?

Well, help me out here.

Is that $770,000 a day?

It's a lot of money.

Sherwin Hughes

That's what I saw them listed at last.

They very well could potentially go up.

And I think that that was general parking.

The preferred parking might even be more expensive.

So let's go ahead and say a million bucks a day for parking.

Sure.

There's one parking ticket for $770.

Think about that.

This is the billionaire coming to town and he's one of the lowest ranked owners.

in all of baseball.

The conversation continues with The Truth with Sherwin Hughes, only on the award-winning 1017th The Truth, live on YouTube and 1017thTheTruth.com.

Sherwin Hughes

Welcome to our two of the truth with Sherwin Hughes.

I want to go over some scenarios in which I think that David Crowley could be elected the next governor of the state of Wisconsin, but don't hear that and think that your responsibilities have been dissolved.

They have not need you to work extra hard and knock on some doors and talk to the people.

If you have a person in your family that can't read and you can,

Get a sample ballot and go over it with them and just just show them Get them to understand pattern recognition of David Crowley and then they mark the little circle right next to David's name and then They can kind of go home after that.

You know what I mean?

They don't really need I mean there's no no no no you got a vote for a turn to general I guess you could vote for Congresswoman Gwen Moore.

Can't nobody beat her

I don't even think Congresswoman Gwynne Moore could beat herself.

What else?

What's Joe Castor running for?

I just received a piece of mail, so she's an alder woman.

She's terrible.

She's awful.

She's a turncoat, backstabber.

Just two-faced.

Just awful.

Just a horrible person.

But she's running against the Trumper, though.

Vote for her if you want to.

It's up to you.

All right, let's talk to Marty.

Marty, you had some interesting...

things to say about this billionaire that's ripping us off for all these tickets.

Here's what I think, Marty.

I'm going to let you continue.

I think there needs to be some legislation that if a sports arena of any type and kind that is subsidized by the taxpayers, they have to reserve subsidized tickets.

Not a bunch, but there has to be somewhere regular, average, hardworking folks that don't make a lot of money.

can enjoy the fruits of their labor and the fruits of their labor are their tax dollars that go and subsidize these sports arenas.

Are you there, Marty?

I am.

I am.

Thank you for an odd and I could not talk to anyone else other than you, Sherwin.

You're the only one that I know of that has the depth and understanding of what I'm talking about, where I'm trying to get to.

And you are absolutely right.

The election is is foremost.

Number one, that is all we should be talking about.

Except if the world's sorry.

But you're absolutely right.

You've got to get out and vote, man.

They got the night riders are coming.

They are shining up their boots.

They are creasing their masks.

They're washing their masks in their little delegates.

They are getting ready to come.

So get out and vote now.

Today's voting day.

Tomorrow's voting day.

It's voting day next week.

And when you vote, don't go alone.

And if you're on paper, this is your chance.

Do you think Scott Walker was up there for eight years?

He did not pardon or, what's the other word, release one person off of paper in eight years.

Do you think Tom Tiffany's going to do any difference?

If you're on paper, be a soldier.

Get out there.

Get 10, get 50, get 100 people to go.

Drive them.

This is the time man.

We don't get 97% out of the north side of Milwaukee.

There's something wrong with us.

And then we don't deserve anything better.

This is the time man.

I ran into a black guy the other night and he didn't even know what was going on.

He went and voted the next day, told me.

This is number one, but it's all related.

Everything we're talking about when we talk about the money.

It's all related, babe.

This is this is out of hand what they're doing to to the people Not just the black people all the people and you talking about setting aside tickets if bud Zealand was in charge a Milwaukee guy It'd be different.

Sherwin Hughes

That's right.

We're the billionaires are coming and they are taking over and we got a chance on November 3rd to do something about it Thank you Marty no no wait wait wait wait

You got a second.

Sherwin Hughes

Oh, no, go ahead.

Go

on.

Okay.

No, no, that's that's more important than what I want to say.

But let's just get the numbers straight.

I talked about the parking at the brewery stadium.

Sherwin Hughes

Yes.

That's a lot of money.

That's $10,000 parking spaces a game.

That's that's eight to $10 million a year that we gave to the brewers.

And now the brewers are flush.

They're making hundreds and hundreds and hundreds.

of millions of dollars.

I hope they give some of that parking revenue back to the county.

You know, and it'd be nice, as you say, to set aside a couple tickets for the real fans.

You're going to have a bunch of people sitting in our guiles up in the stands, man.

But it's not just that.

It goes to fires of war, too.

You got to remember, we gave them the wand.

Not just that.

Under Abily.

is giving the brewers, excuse me, giving the bucks $4 million, $4 million a year out of the parks fund.

The parks that are dying on the vine, but we have $4 million a year for 20 years to give to the bucks who have some money.

I don't know that those billionaires really need that money, but that's what, and the Baird Center, we're paying a tax to pay for the Baird Center.

We cannot get the numbers whether or not any black man from Milwaukee even worked on the project number one.

But number two, the Baird Center and that tax pays for visit Milwaukee.

If anyone has seen visit Milwaukee, talk about or come over to the north side and say something positive about the north side of Milwaukee.

Help me out because I missed

Sherwin Hughes

it.

Full disclosure, I have a partnership with Visit Milwaukee and every two weeks I do a segment called the Truth Weekend Guide that is in fact sponsored by Visit Milwaukee.

They are a supporter of ours here at 1017 The Truth.

They spend money with us, they spend revenue with us, so just...

Are they everywhere

on the north side they are not but at

Sherwin Hughes

least I have I've got a partners and I had to fight tooth and nail for it now But they're

showing that that money comes from tonight when we go out and we have a drink We have a meal there's a tax on each one of those and that money goes to the Baird Center and the Baird Center pays for the visit Milwaukee and you get the money from the visit Milwaukee, so

We should just give that

Sherwin Hughes

tax money straight to you.

I'd rather do that.

Yes, I agree with that 100%.

Let's make that proposal happen.

Okay, with

Sherwin Hughes

that.

But it goes on.

I mean, SummerFest.

SummerFest, we paid a million dollars a year for cops to go to SummerFest.

Never got reimbursed until a couple, three years ago when Mike Murphy figured it out.

And you can't.

There's no cultural event for the black, for the north side of Milwaukee, for the black culture.

We've got Puerto Rican days now.

So I guess that concludes the constellation of cultures in the city of Milwaukee.

Or am I missing one?

I might be missing one if you know what I mean.

Geez.

Sherwin Hughes

Thanks Marty.

I don't

Sherwin Hughes

know man.

You'll be okay.

Thank you.

You'll be all right.

Have a good weekend.

I got a little uncomfortable there.

I don't.

I'm fully aware we're aware of what black Milwaukee lacks in comparison, but I I also don't want big business and big corporate having an influence on black cultural exhibitions now we could

We could sell out one of the reasons why we don't have African World Festival, which at this point.

It would just be mostly symbolic if we had it Northwestern Mutual many many years ago offered.

To sponsor a weekend of African World Festival, but it would be their branding and their logos and them selling products throughout our festival and at the time that board.

They didn't want that they didn't want.

African World Festival to be an extension of Northwestern mutual and so instead we don't have one at all I mean, I guess there's a righteousness in that But at the end of the day we don't have that cultural exhibition and if we sell out Who knows so I'll say this about about the brewers Cecilia

What's your name?

Is this Cecilia Gore?

Who is the Homer knows the lady?

I met her a couple of times.

I see her all over the city, but we never really talk.

So the brewers have a foundation.

They give a ton of money away.

They give a bunch of money.

A lot of our nonprofits.

You got to keep in mind a lot of like grassroots nonprofits in the black community.

There's tons

of

Sherwin Hughes

every single day.

Somebody is starting another nonprofit for another need or another incarnation of poverty in the black community.

And that stuff is quietly funded through.

The Brewers Foundation.

Her name is Cecilia.

Let me look it up.

Some of y'all are probably seeing it in the chat, but I'm not looking at the chat right now.

Brewers Foundation.

They give a ton of money away.

So some of the revenue that the Brewers make, they'll offer grants to different initiatives.

The problem is Cecilia Gore.

That's her name.

That's right.

She's been there forever.

She's been the executive director of the Brewer's Community Foundation since 09 Overseas the foundation's fundraising, which has raised about six million dollars supporting 200 plus Wisconsin nonprofits focusing on health education and recreation.

Those are rookie numbers.

They probably could do more But after the World Series, I think that

It is incumbent upon all of us to ask for more and to demand more because there's a tremendous amount of revenue It's going to be generated just the ticket sales in and of itself and all that money doesn't go to the brewers and I don't know the details of the investments that taxpayers made to subsidize American family field But at the very least price gouging should be made illegal because isn't the big like political conversation these days is affordability Nobody can afford anything

And if affordability is an issue now look the world series is a big deal We know the sports makes a tremendous amount of money and it makes wealthy people even more wealthy and this that and the other but you also have to Give some kind of respect to the taxpayers that go to work every single day and taxes aren't paid taxes are taken We got paid today here in Milwaukee black media My what's the one that you take home net net gross is what you make my gross and my net are strangers

They don't even look like they're in the same family.

They don't they're not even.

Because it starts out as this amount.

But then the government's like, give me this, give me the give the year.

Blacky, give me.

FICA, give me state income, give me.

Take it.

Take your month.

Take that.

Take that.

Take that.

Take that.

Take that.

Take that.

And I got to take it.

And then and then the rest is what I get.

So my gross and my net pay are okay.

Fine.

You got to pay to live in a society.

I'm not going to go out there and show a capital drive.

You got to have somebody that's going to plow the snow.

Okay.

I'm not picking up my own garbage or I'm not taking my garbage to the landfill.

I need somebody to do the garbage in the street lights and you got to do all of the stuff that the city does.

And when I call the police, I want them to come.

If my house is on fire, I want the fire department to come.

So I'm paying for a lot of that stuff.

I'm also paying for this.

I can't even say it.

I'm paying for the schools MP The place where the kids go into buildings then learn about the reading writing and arithmetic I'm paying for that too that one actually aggravates me because I think what we are investing and what we are going to be asked to invest Additionally, I Have a problem with them not being able to keep the kids safe because there's some

physical and sexual abuse things that are going on pretty consistently at NPS.

But I get it, we gotta pay the taxes.

But then what are we getting in return?

And I don't know if we're getting a good return on our investment.

So what I would like to see, and everything is a possibility because Milwaukee will honestly have a policy platform in Madison that I don't know if we've ever had.

In the event that David Crowley, there's more to David Crowley getting elected governor than just a symbolic thing.

I don't even care about the history making thing.

I don't even care about that.

I don't care.

He's a better candidate.

He's better experienced.

He knows and understands the needs of this city.

He's been punched in the face by Republicans that have been been disrespectful to this city.

And as a county executive, he sees that more than anybody else.

But here's the thing about David.

David doesn't.

He doesn't make public his arguments and disagreements with Republicans.

When Republicans argue and disagree with liberals and Democrats and progressives, they make it public.

A lot of times Democrats don't.

They just continue to fight very, very hard, very quietly.

I think David is one of those people but to elevate the wants needs and wishes of I'm gonna say the most important city in Wisconsin by far I don't even know what second place is there is no second place and it's not Madison

Green Bay before Madison it ain't Madison Madison is all sorts of screwed up the racial disparities in Madison Especially with African Americans and the police just as bad or worse than Milwaukee the student and education disparities in Madison public schools just as bad as Milwaukee if not worse and that's the liberal city white liberals are not worth the paper they're printed on But to have somebody elected governor that he's gonna be a governor for everybody

We also have to be okay with that as black African-American people because we know where the want is and where the needs are.

And clearly Marty told us where there's more wants and need from the black people.

Shout out to Marty, I guess.

Not throwing shade at your Marty, but just you gotta be kind of careful.

You know what I mean?

We're sensitive as black people about white people talking about what we don't have.

Because a lot of times we don't have it because of people that look like you.

But it's not you, Marty.

I don't think.

Marty, let's tell you what.

You need to give David Crowley at least a $50 donation for that phone call, buddy.

Then we'll be square.

and make it 100.

We have to be okay with, I gotta give you the scenarios, which I'm gonna do.

I still got time left in the show.

The scenarios in which I think that David Crowley can win this election even before election day, and I wanna make sure that all of the votes are there and the votes are counted, because there's gonna be some foul stuff going on.

Listen to me, David Crowley is running against an election denier.

Please just take a moment and appreciate the gravity of this the time Tiffany if he loses he's gonna say he didn't So we have to make sure that the margin in which David wins is so robust like outside of the 30,000 votes that Tom Tiffany can't say that there was cheating and malfeasance

David Crowley is running against an election denier and Tom Tiffany if he's gonna deny an election when you think about it He is gonna absolutely deny the election that he lost to the black guy that mopped the floor with him on the debate I know Tom Tiffany cried in the car.

I Bet he was more sad After that debate then when his plane crashed in the Lake Walsall

That's what he said is his closing statement y'all remember that when that plane went out We called 911 because mysteriously our cell phones were still operational as we crashed a plane in a lake and we called 911 from our working cell phones.

It took 16 minutes shut up No, no, that's not nice that isn't but he's fine.

Did you see the picture of Tom Tiffany after the plane crash?

He had a paper cut above his eyebrow

It was small, he had a band-aid on it.

I don't believe nothing they say, but they did this to themselves, and I'm not obligated to believe anything they say.

But we have to be okay with David Crowley being a governor for a state that's 79% Caucasian.

We gotta be okay with it, he's gonna have to do a lot of stuff for the whites.

He can do a lot of stuff for Milwaukee because Milwaukee, our black populations, are concentrated.

I believe that if you invest more in Milwaukee, you just help things here.

Pay attention to things here and use a scalpel and out of sledgehammer when you create policy for this city And you're fair to the common council and you have a good relationship with the mayor I think that can help African Americans because Milwaukee

is a

Sherwin Hughes

black city whether you like it or not And let me say this for people that might be listening to my program for the first time You're coming into town and you're scanning the radio because people come into town and they scan the radio Welcome to 101 7 the truth.

We are happy that you were here.

I do this 9 a.m.

Until noon Monday through Friday, but welcome

to Milwaukee.

You're in a black city.

You are.

It's not bad.

Think about this.

The Brewers are going to the World Series in a black city.

The Milwaukee Bucks have their home opener today at three o'clock in a black city.

All the bars, all the restaurants, all the hotels, all in a black city.

So because the plurality is highest amongst African Americans here in the city of Milwaukee by investing in this city, I think that can very much improve the conditions.

Take a break, come back.

Give you some scenarios do a little math Your questions and comments are always welcome and trust me.

I entertain a lot of questions and comments that I shouldn't a 3 3 2 1 2 1 0 1 7 a 3 3 2 1 2 1 0 1 7 is our phone number You can text that number Xavier do you know Zach told me that there's a something we can do

Maybe Jesus reads it.

Welcome

Sherwin Hughes

back to the program.

All right, Xavier, I'm going to send you this clip.

I tried to send it to you earlier.

You guys know how I feel about tipping.

I found something out about tipping, y'all, that I didn't know.

I am going to get to the math and the David Crowley and people voting early in the early vote totals.

But let me just put this in your brain stem for a second.

I think they've been ripping us off.

And there's a lot of pressure for people to tip.

And I got to reframe how I talk about money and spending money.

I'm sometimes a fool with how I spend money, which I'm on a budget.

I put myself on a budget.

Wrong goddamn week to be on a budget.

I know it is, but I looked at how much money I spent.

I'm just, I'm a side myself.

I got to stop buying people drinks.

Oh, I got it.

I got this.

Oh, no, no, put it on my tab.

I ain't saying that no more Screw you.

I put nothing on my tab.

I'll tell you what, okay Oh, you want me to buy your drink?

I'll buy it.

I'm gonna buy you a little your little dinner Would you get a little buffalo chicken wrap as a fries?

Okay, I got it.

What would you get?

You get you a Miller light.

You get you a high life You get you a genuine drag or you get you with Tito's and soda.

You got okay.

I got it

Give me your social security number and I'm going to claim you as a dependent on my taxes.

I'll buy you a little food.

Oh, you want me to get you dinner?

That girl.

She told me that I was going to take her out to dinner.

How did what?

Look, I get it.

Times is tight, but you don't.

How do you ask tell for a date?

Sure when you're gonna take me out and I will do no such goddamn thing We can go to a place where food is served you go in your wallet I go in my wallet and we keep it separate like a gross and a net Don't tell me we going out no We're not ma'am.

I Don't want to shame anybody For not tipping cuz a lot of servers

They get all mad when people don't tip but you got to be a respectful diner like if you're asking for a bunch of stuff and if you are getting a level of service that you wouldn't get anywhere else because I go to restaurants where the service is just as good as the food or sometimes better.

I'm going for the atmosphere.

I'm going for the environment.

You know what I mean?

I can relax.

They know my table.

They know what I want to eat like that's worth paying for and I don't have to worry about anything.

Everything is always going to be great like that to me is worth a little bit more than the menu price.

I have no problem tipping.

But I've also revised my tipping behavior in that if I order my food and receive my food while I'm standing up, there's no sitting down.

I go to a counter and I order my food and I place my order and I walk away from the counter and they say order for Sherwin.

And I and there's only one Sherwin, which I kind of hate using my real name because if somebody doesn't like me or they hate my radio show, hey, that's Sherwin Hughes.

Get him.

Because this week I managed to make the sororities mad, the fraternities mad, the gays and the transgenders mad.

So I got to be careful when I give my real name at places order for Sherwin I Usually go about the Quavionte That's Hi coffee order for the Quavionte Jenkins.

Yeah, that's me But I don't want to shame people that can't afford to tip and Here's what I'll come to find out Tipped wages are correct me from wrong

233 an hour 213 233 something like that right and that's low and that's terrible but that's legal but if a server Doesn't make enough tips to where they're hourly over a course of a pay period Doesn't add up to at least 725 the employer supplements their income so their servers that tell you they're only making 233 an hour true but

If they their tips combined is less than 725 the employer by law Has to make sure that they're making at least minimum wage now.

That's obviously that's not a lot of money But a lot of servers will have us think you need to tip us and tip us very well because We're only making $2.33 an hour.

No boo boo.

You're making minimum wage and maybe it's a very hard job for minimum wage But what do you want me to do?

I can't be the victim that you're upset that you have a job that doesn't pay you a lot of money.

What do you want me to do about that?

We can't subsidize people's employment like that.

You got it, Xavier?

I'm over here dodging the real stuff I'm supposed to talk.

Should we play it?

This is a conversation that an online creator has with a server who is...

Very obnoxious and shaming people that don't tip is You actually have you got the video.

It's not just the audio, right?

So I can go to YouTube and watch it All right, let's play it then we'll close out this segment then no I promise we're gonna talk about the voting everybody relax The world series is here.

I'm excited.

What do you want?

What do you want for me?

I'm a human being I'm a human.

I'm wearing my lucky underwear today might not take them off

Mean if I do take them off, you know, I mean your boy got lucky, but I'm wet.

These are the lucky ones Okay, let's play the clip shall we so you can hear this content creator have a conversation With a server who and a server is disguising their voice.

It sounds kind of weird But the details of the conversation are fascinating.

Let's take a listen

If you're broke you could just say that you don't have money to tip you could just say that

Many people are too broke to tip and they're victimized by waitresses.

Yeah, you think it's okay and fair

Then don't go out to eat, stay at home and cook.

But that disproportionately harms poor people and working-class people who need to eat out and enjoy themselves the most.

Why do you need to enjoy yourself?

You can't enjoy yourself making food at home.

So you think that poor people deserve to suffer so waitresses can thrive.

Why?

So the waitresses who saving enough money so they can buy formula for their kids, they're evil, for wanting tips because they make 4.25 an hour.

Okay, so no waitress makes $4.25 an hour.

That's a myth.

That's a waitress deception.

But if they make below, like, minimum wage and tips, the employer then pays the minimum wage.

Whenever you go out to eat, you are, by definition, paying that waitress minimum wage for a minimum wage job, and that's okay.

Actually, sometimes when you don't tip, they have to come out of their own pocket.

Illegal.

Federally illegal.

It has been for decades.

Profoundly illegal.

The narrative of, like, waitress victimization is built upon a bedrock of lies.

A bedrock of lies and misinformation, they're not underpaid.

They're not overworked.

They make the same as every other minimum wage worker, but they want me to pay them more.

And if I can't pay them more, the minimum wage, I don't have a right to go outside and eat.

That is the most weird thing I've ever heard.

That's a form of violence, and I don't buy that.

I'm not tipping these hoes ever.

Why should I, though?

Sherwin Hughes

I mean, oh, he said it's a form of violence.

The way that man put I don't even know just do his name But the way he framed it Shouldn't poor people deserve the right to go out to eat because they need Like something fun exciting and adventurous in their lives more than anybody else Absolutely, they do and a tip should not be preventative.

I just

Don't know I'm changing my tune a little bit because I thought we actually were subsidizing these $2 and 33 cent per hour Servers no at the very minimum.

They're going to make minimum wage, but they didn't tell you that now I'm minimum wage is not a lot of money, but There's a lot of people making minimum wage.

There's not below also Let me be clear about this at some places at some restaurants servers are making 10 15 20 dollars an hour Not the wrong to put my friends business out there.

Oh, I shouldn't say that

He pays his bartenders 25 bucks an hour and they make $100,000 a year.

But to get good quality bartenders, to keep your regular customers happy, you gotta pay an experienced bartender a whole bunch of money.

The people that remember what people's orders are, they remember their faces, they remember what they like to eat, they remember what they like to sit, like that is a tremendous value to a business.

So paying a bartender $25 an hour plus tips makes the hell of a lot of sense because they can increase the profit and the revenue of your business.

But tipping should not be...

used to shame people.

And it should not be prohibiting to people that want to go out and have a meal outside of the house.

The truth with Sherwin, who's to be right

back.

is just ahead with The Truth with Sherwin Hughes on the award-winning 1017 The Truth.

You're listening to The Truth with Sherwin Hughes where meaningful conversations happen every day on the award-winning 1017 The Truth.

Sherwin Hughes

So this artist, his name is Lake.

Song is Guardian Angel and he is from Milwaukee.

The name of his album is, uh, Apropos.

The world is ending and you blocked my number.

That's the name of Lake's album.

Maybe I should feature.

More Milwaukee artists but not necessarily Milwaukee hip-hop because I gotta say something and some of y'all ain't gonna like it But I'm not here to make friends.

I'm here to make people smarter some Milwaukee hip-hop is absolutely horrible It's terrible.

It sounds like they all went to NPS and are not on grade level in reading.

That's what it sounds like It's low effort It's just it's it's simple like the beat sound like they were made on remember those Casio keyboards from the 1980s.

Remember those?

It's

just it's

Sherwin Hughes

really super simple

There's no real depth of production.

It's just I'm not a fan of it.

Maybe because I've aged out of it, but I also think that hip hop was far more intelligent.

A generation ago when smart black people weren't a threat to society like we are now because as majority populations reduce, I got a story here that shows that the American fertility rate is the lowest it's been, I think ever.

There's only 53 births per 1000 women, which if you ask me, that's still enough, but that's the lowest it's ever been.

And when our fertility rate in this country is that low, that means that white people are not having children.

Also, it should be noted that if you are in the United States of America, 50% of the Caucasian population is age 58 or older.

Half of the white people are 58 or older.

They're not having kids.

And then the other half of the white population.

that is under the age of 58, they are having less children.

Black, Latino, Hispanic, and Asians, our fertility rates, steady.

Some of the Asians, I think, is clicking up a little bit.

Latinos, Hispanics are clicking up.

What you'll find, though, is that people, as they make more money, it's a weird, inverse relationship.

As people make more money, they're actually having less children.

Very unusual set of circumstances.

But the hip hop is just...

It's dumb.

Oh, here's someone who knows all about the hip hop.

Let's talk to Al from Sherman Park.

You're on one on one seven.

The truth.

How are you?

I'm doing well.

How about yourself, Sherwin?

Sherwin Hughes

Doing great.

The Brewers are in the World Series and Game One is tonight.

I'm beside myself with excitement.

Can't you tell?

Yeah, my grandfather was big into baseball.

It was boring

Sherwin Hughes

to me.

I'm

glad for the Brewers.

Sherwin Hughes

I bet you like fashion shows.

You watch runway fashion.

What do you like to do?

No, I'm a horrible guy.

I don't like fashion.

Really?

No, I'm there watching my neighbor pull in with their Volvo in the hood.

I've been seeing a lot of all these and all these luxury car BMWs in the hood.

I wanted to talk about the economics of the brewers because I see when and I do a lot of my shopping in West Milwaukee and you see what's built up down there.

around the stadium.

It's shocking.

It's like a little suburb in the city.

But I think the freeway has a lot to do with how far that economic reach goes.

But see where you can really go north of 94.

We got some parks.

We got Washington Heights.

But our development, I see they tore down the old P and H or was it Masamati or Masatsu?

mining factory.

So get ready for some development over there.

Pottawatomie has a plan to connect their facilities to that brewer's stretch over there.

So I guess the economics depends on where you place the stadium and why we didn't fight harder to get the arena on the north side of it and just close to downtown.

I don't know why

Sherwin Hughes

but that would let you finish the thought but I'm gonna tell you why.

Go on.

Okay, and then lastly about the servers.

I used to work in a lot of restaurants.

You'd be surprised how jealous the cooks are of all the wages and tips that the servers make.

The average cheesecake factory server in Milwaukee makes about $49,000.

If you're good, you can make more than that.

But it depends on your experience.

It's a sales job.

If you're not good at sales, you're probably not going to be a good server.

Go ahead.

Sherwin Hughes

No, I think that was your complete thought.

But the reason why, so in other cities, I know they try this in Detroit, where if you have a blighted neighborhood, a deindustrialized neighborhood, typically black, where there was a lot of factory employment and the factories went overseas and was left in its wake as poverty, when you put, because when the factories closed, you have to look at what your internal municipal sources of big revenue are.

And a lot of times, if you're fortunate enough to have a sports team,

Sports arenas have to get replaced and it's a huge spend.

It's a lot of construction It's a lot of jobs and it's ticket sales and food sales, etc So what is instantaneous economic development?

I mean from zero to a hundred is you take your poorest neighborhood and community and You build your new sports arena right smack dab in the middle of that poor neighborhood and immediately you can transform that community Here's the problem

It's displacement it will remove those residents and sometimes it will push them further away further away from the opportunities and it will push them To other parts of the city or the county where they're still going to be just as poor there will be tremendous gentrification But for the people that are able to stay let's say your house in the hood is worth seventy five thousand dollars They build a brand new baseball stadium basketball arena

Right there in that neighborhood, your $75,000 house is now worth $750,000.

So it's good economic development, but we are very sensitive about displacing residents.

Most big cities, if you're fortunate enough to have a pro basketball team, which we have a pro baseball team, which we have the goddamn World Series, which we have.

And if you have a big fat casino, which we also have, they're all right downtown or in neighborhoods that a generation ago were hurt.

by the factories going overseas.

Milwaukee doesn't do that.

If you look where Miller Park is, and if you look where the Fiserv Forum is, and you look where Potawatomi is, we're talking about billions of dollars in revenue from those three buildings, but they're separate, and we don't even have a mode of transportation that can get you to all three.

That's also a result of the segregation in Milwaukee.

With Potawatomi being a little bit different, because that's on a reservation.

That's native land over there.

That's their land.

So they would not want to locate downtown.

They want to be on land that they have traditionally owned for or been a part of for thousands of years.

So I do see your point, but no, that's the reason why we did not locate the five serve form.

And there's freeway access, right?

You put that to tear down North Division High School where North Division was.

Put the five-star form.

You got freeway access right there would have really served the neighborhood well bars restaurants shops and stores, but it would have displaced all the residents Thank you for your call out.

Oh Okay, unless

Sherwin Hughes

you got more you got more I'm letting everybody talk to

me.

I did I did real quick I just see that happen when I used to be Al from Brewer's Hill And I had to move out to Sherman Park because all of that land around Brewer's Hill got really expensive

And I don't know if you saw the viral video about these white, uh, Telerico supporters who moved into a historically black neighborhood near black college in Austin and paid 1.5 million dollars for the house in the hood.

And they were trying to tell their neighbors where they could park and they couldn't park and they wanted to own the street.

Those black neighbors rose up and protested those people.

But that's what gentrification does.

It pushes us out of affordability.

Sherwin Hughes

Thank you Al appreciate your call.

Have a good

Sherwin Hughes

day.

I think they talked about that on the lunch break Let me just go ahead and just say this for the record now.

I don't know the details of that story

And oftentimes don't delve into things that are happening in other cities and towns unless it's directly relatable to Milwaukee because like there's this something going on in the Ohio governor's race.

I'm not involved in none of that stuff.

There's malfeasance going on over here in Washington in poor.

I don't care about none.

None of that stuff helps black kids in Milwaukee read and make better hip hop.

So I don't concern myself with it, but I'm going to tell you this much.

If I pay $1.5 million for a house.

Goddamn right.

I'm gonna tell you where the hell you can park.

I sure am uh-huh, uh-huh if I'm paying I don't know would there be seventy thousand dollars a year in property taxes Oh, yeah, I'm telling you where you can park I'm telling you where you can park what you can eat how often you got an exercise I'm gonna tell you to go to the doctor

I'm gonna tell you when you can and cannot go to the restroom I'm gonna tell you when you can and cannot have relatives over for fourth of July barbecue I pay $1.5 million and I'm living in the hood my hood my hood Not our hood How much money you pay for your house?

$13 and 42 cents.

How much money you pay for your house?

My house was free.

How much you pay for your house?

$4,219.

Oh, okay.

I pay $1.5 million everyone go over there

Your kids can't even play with my kids because That's not nice, but I'm also not spending $1.5 million for a house in the hood

If you got 1.5 million dollars, you can buy a good piece of the hood.

You know what I'm saying?

Take a break, come back.

I'm gonna do the truth weekend guide.

I need to stop lying to y'all.

I'm gonna give you some scenarios in which David Crowley can be the next governor.

Can we do it now?

Can we finally do it?

We're gonna do it on the other side.

D. Donald says, I do get angry at veterans who don't tip on Veterans Day.

The food is free and they're working their butts off.

It doesn't make sense not to tip on Veterans Day.

Veterans, guess what, veterans?

Don't tip.

It's your day.

Don't, don't spin up.

God damn penny.

You know what some veterans have seen?

People, their best friends getting their heads blown up.

You ain't, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Then don't work on veterans then I'm not trying to sound cold and harsh, but we don't treat our veterans very well We send them off to these goddamn wars.

They come back screwed up.

They commit suicide Let that man eat that double cheeseburger for free You don't want to work on veterans day because the veterans don't tip and don't go to work calling sick No, at least give them a free meal I Imagine most of them probably do tip, but if they don't you better not say not name nothing.

I think people just get greedy people feel entitled to money

They do I Felt entitled to money before guess what I just I was just entitled.

That's what that's what it was I just felt entitled to it.

I don't mean I won't get it a Surge driven by the historic nature of a potential black governor strong get out the vote focused on Crowley's Milwaukee roots and record

endorsements from black leaders and black media the Milwaukee Courier WNOV and one of one seven the truth and Residual enthusiasm from his narrow primary win could raise turnout in majority black Milwaukee wards toward higher historical levels in recent presidential cycles these wards cast on the order of 90 to 100,000 votes a meaningful increase several percentage points relative to

2020, 2022 and 2024 baselines could add thousands of netted democratic votes in Milwaukee County, potentially five to 15,000 plus depending on the magnitude and efficiency expanding the county's democratic margin.

So let me go to the early vote total.

So we've got totals from the first day of early vote, which was Tuesday, where 3,398 early votes were cast.

There were 129 people that registered, and 188 people dropped their ballots off.

So I'm looking at an 80-20 rule here.

I believe that 80% of the early votes cast in these Milwaukee locations

which are Serb Hall, the Clinton Rose Center, the Good Hope Library, Marquette Alumni Union, Midtown, Mitchell Street Library, Villa Library, Tippecanoe Library, UW-Milwaukee, the Washington Park Senior Center, and the Zeiler Municipal Building.

David Crowley will get 80% of those votes because Milwaukee is heavily democratic and dare I say in this particular election cycle because of the affordability crisis and just poor Republican leadership.

That 80% is fairly certain.

that people that may have been moderate, that may have been independent, that may have voted for Republicans or folks that don't have like a die-hard political affiliation are gonna lean toward the Democrats.

So it is safe to say that 80% of the votes that are cast early in Milwaukee will go to David Crowley.

On the first day, there were 3398.

On the second day, which was Wednesday, that was the day of the debate,

3072 people cast their votes early 178 new registrants and 138 people dropped their ballots off I have the totals for Thursday, so the debate was Wednesday.

I think David did okay If we're gonna score it David wins He made it a debate he challenged Tom Tiffany on everything from his love for supporting the billionaires to the Epstein files

Tom Tiffany just blew a bunch of nonsense just oh we're going to do this and pay for the transportation and David looked at him like how you're going to pay for the transportation when you keep cutting the taxes dog and then Tom Tiffany started sweating and then he reached for some water so after David Crowley's debate performance on Wednesday so typically what you see is unless there is like events

and happenings.

Early vote numbers taper off.

The first day it's hyped up because we all talk about it for weeks.

First day of early vote is on whatever day it was, October 20th, yay.

Sherwin Hughes

And you get big numbers.

And then the congresswoman was out there, the mayor was out there greeting people, right?

But then days after that and weeks after that, the next week it falls off.

So Monday, I'm sorry, Tuesday, the first day of early voting, highest total.

It did sink on Wednesday.

But it went up on Thursday and not only did the early voting totals go up on Thursday It outpaced the day before which was Wednesday and Marquette early voting site was closed So on Wednesday early votes were 3072 yesterday.

They were 3111 and the Marquette early voting site was actually closed I believe that more people went out and voted early because remember these are majority Democratic votes now

We don't have many Republicans in the city of Milwaukee.

We ran them the hell out of here.

I'm all right with it All they do is go to Walker show and go to my nominee falls But I think this bodes well for David.

Let's talk to Carolyn.

You're on one on one seven the truth.

How are you?

I'm fine.

How are you doing today?

Sherwin Hughes

I'm doing great.

What's on your mind?

Well, I just wanted to compliment you on the last three days of shows.

They were very

going over the referendums of things because when you get to the poll and you read them, they're so confusing and you'd be like, okay, what are they really saying?

So thank you for that clarification.

And just want to speak on the tipping and stuff.

It's never been a tipper and stuff because, like I say, poor.

And when we would take our children out for meals and stuff, that's something that we have to save up in budgets for.

So we don't have no extra to tip anybody.

And the gentleman that is.

about the veterans, not tipping and stuff on Veterans Day.

How dare you in most of all, the free meals that they give are crappy, I know, because hey, I'm a veteran, okay?

Sherwin Hughes

Thank you for your service.

And the last thing I want to say and stuff is I'm not going to tip nobody more than I pay my time.

So if the bill comes and it's $100, you'll be lucky if you get $10, okay?

Because I'm not giving you more than what I give to Lord.

gave a tip one time, right?

And mind you, lived with me for years, didn't tip me, basically lived off me and my spouse and whatever.

So one day we went out to a mill and he put a $20 bill on the table.

And I picked the $20 bill up and he was like, what are you doing?

I said, how dare you?

You have never tipped.

Half want to buy your own food and you gonna sit up here and put a $20 tip and two minutes later to be asking us for some money?

I think not.

Yep.

Tips are overrated.

I'm not gonna do it unless I feel like you have been just generally really, really nice and professional because now I can't tip because I've got a little bit of money.

But I'm not just giving you a tip because you're a waitress.

Just be with that one.

Have a good day.

Sherwin Hughes

Oof.

All right.

Thank you, Carolyn.

Carolyn said I ain't... I ain't tipping you hoes.

D Donald is a little angry I'm assuming D Donald is a woman because men don't talk this way Whatever sure when I like my food without spit a lot of those servers hate veterans day Let me tell you something if you get caught spitting in food and I hope you do that's a felony and I hope you go to prison I hope you go to prison for spitting in somebody's food because somebody doesn't tip you you're going to tamper

Welcome to our three of the truth with Sherwin Hughes coming up this hour We're going to do our truth weekend guide.

It's all sports just to let you know The Milwaukee Bucks home opener has been moved to 3 p.m.

Instead of 7 p.m.

That was the originally scheduled tip off with the Chicago Bulls But the game has been moved up to accommodate game one of the world series

in which the Tampa Bay Rays will be here battling our Milwaukee Brewers.

Two teams with the best American League and National League records are facing off here in Milwaukee for the World Series where the Brewers have home field advantage.

I do believe this will be a fantastic series.

It will go seven games and the Brewers will win the World Series.

Game seven will be held in Milwaukee on Halloween night.

Brace yourselves.

I'm going to go over the different watch parties throughout the city.

I want you all to explore a little bit.

Milwaukee is not that bad.

It's not.

If you stay in the same little spot, do the same little things where it's just sad and depressing.

You're going to hate this city.

It's so much going on.

I want you guys to try a new neighborhood, go to a new place.

There's so many watch parties.

I'm trying to figure out which one I'm going to go to because I got to pick one.

And I'm just gonna stay there.

I ain't gonna be moving around a lot tonight.

In fact, you know what?

I think I might leave Miss Tesla Rhonda Jenkins in the garage and I might just be taking Ubers tonight.

I don't know if I want to be behind the wheel tonight.

I'm also gonna give you all the different shuttles.

There's a lot of shuttles taking people all over to the all over the city and get on the shuttle and get transported where you don't have to drive.

So we're gonna discuss that.

the truth weekend guide We are making a Lot of history this year and I'm looking forward to already even though it's not until the last week of December really the last broadcast day of December where I do my year in review Man this year 2026 is gonna be something else right our first year without Yanis A lot of new Bucks players.

We'll see how they perform.

I think they'll do 30 or 35 wins this year.

That's being a little optimistic

Packers have won three in a row.

That's good.

Let's see how they shape up Toward the end of the football season if they can make a decent playoff run the Brewers are gonna win the World Series and potentially David Crowley might get elected governor of the state of Wisconsin That's a monumental year.

Donald Trump is gonna be impeached a lot.

Well, that's not gonna be until 2027 a lot of impeachments lots of them But there is in fact some work to do.

I don't think that we need to dwell on the historic pedigree

The Milwaukee County executive becoming the next governor because there's a lot of work to be done and the history wears off and the history doesn't mean much Unless your performance Exceeds and supersedes the history Barack Obama the history of him becoming president His policy making and the

Indelible impact that he made on American American politics and even foreign policy Barack Obama won a goddamn Nobel Peace Prize Serve two terms admirably no scandals.

Nobody went to prison.

He didn't cheat on Michelle.

Maybe he did.

I don't know Would you like him any less?

I wouldn't Barack Obama comes out with a tell-all book Things were getting kind of stressful in the White House

Got me a little extra ass didn't mean to do it just fell into it.

I Had a lot on my plate.

We had to kill Osama bin Laden and I Wanted to get a little sloppy toppy fine fine with me y'all got all been out of shape When Bill Clinton got a little sloppy toppy I didn't mind it all in fact at the I was 20 That was like 97.

Oh, it was big news.

They try to impeach Bill Clinton cuz he got a little toppy.

Oh come on

Look what we impeach what we impeach people for now Violating national security you serving the authority of Congress like that's what you impeach people for back then the world was so nice decent and calm you had And it was Republicans that were mad because Republicans don't get no toppy unless they're giving it to each other which that's very true I Mean look at Bob Donovan he got caught in a men's bathroom at UW Milwaukee where men would go and masturbate and have sex he got caught beeping

Yikes.

Sherwin Hughes

Got mad at Bill Clinton.

I didn't think anything of it.

So I was 21 or 22 at the time.

And I'm just starting to really pay attention to politics.

And the Clinton era was a wonderful time to get engaged and get involved in politics.

He also was the first president of his generation.

That was back when baby boomers were still kind of cool.

Now everybody hates them.

But he went he was on MTV.

He admitted to smoking weed.

He performed on the Arsenio Hall show and for us back then That was a real big deal.

So I was cool Bill Clinton But then when I heard he got a little top from Monica, I Was like and he's the president President is a lot of benefits to it and plus You can't expect Hillary to do that

Hillary probably hasn't given any top since the 60s, which is fine.

That's it's okay.

I know that someone like Hillary Clinton Doesn't need to be in the physical service of her husband because she's ambitious right Bill Clinton was a Means to an end like they work to deal out when they met in like 71 or 72 they Bill was like I'm gonna be president that I'm gonna help you be president too.

She was like bet.

Let's get married

For all I know, they're swingers.

None of that matters to me.

People are so enthralled by other people's bedroom behavior.

It's crazy.

You know what I mean?

Like, what's the big deal?

Do y'all not have any bedroom behavior of your own?

Because if you're getting toppied and domed up, you want everybody to experience the beauty of it.

You know what?

That's what the problem is, other than affordability.

People are not getting topped off enough I can tell cuz you're walking around all tense You can tell can't you when someone is physically Satisfied there's an aura.

There's a confidence.

There's a calm about them These are the people that you look to in the time of an emergency.

Oh, no

There's a natural disaster.

Oh, it's an earthquake or hurricane or tornado.

You look for the calmest person in the room to be like,

don't worry, I got this.

Everybody follow me.

We're all going.

We're going to take shelter.

Come on.

Don't worry about it.

Sherwin Hughes

That person is thoroughly satisfied.

And then the people that aren't satisfied, they're angry, they're agitated, their anxiety is high.

They're always walking really fast.

They're always just mad at the world.

You know, you need to bust a nut.

It does temporarily make all your problems go away.

You know that.

I probably should relax.

My mother's probably listening to this show, but I mean, come on.

I know how I got here.

I remarked on the show, I think last week.

Our moms might be very flexible.

You know I mean like limber Good that's how I got here Probably should stop talking about that scenario number two rural Republican turnout surges due to Tom Tiffany's local appeal Trump aligned energy even if he distances himself somewhat from Trump

Economic grievances in agriculture and northern areas or high engagement in a midterm under a Republican presidency, while Black Milwaukee turnout stays flat or only modestly higher.

Alternatively, a specific event, a high-profile local crime incident, economic data, or national midterm dynamics could suppress urban enthusiasm more than rural.

Oh, by the way, I should tell you that Actress Kerry Washington is going to be in studio.

with Ray Nitty.

I would say Ray Nitty and maybe Shannon, but maybe Shannon is not even going to be in studio.

So Carrie Washington, she's in town doing David Crowley events.

So tune in to the lunch break with Ray Nitty and maybe Shannon and Carrie Washington is going to be, I just stick around for that.

Get a hug.

I met Carrie.

She was here and she's

been here a

Sherwin Hughes

lot.

Was that 04?

No.

That was Natalie Portman.

She was here.

Not that you want to compare the two.

No, Carrie Washington, she was here in 08.

She was here for Obama.

8 and 12, I think, Carrie Washington was here.

She comes here a lot.

Well, enough.

You know what I should do when I see her?

Reach my arms out like sweaty Dion.

I'd be like, where's my hug, Carrie?

Where's my hug?

That's creepy when people do it, because I've had a man do it to me.

Dion does this thing where he reaches his hands out and then he does this thing where he clasps.

He reaches his arms out and he clasps, clasps, clasps his hands.

Come here.

Give me a mile.

Why do you want to hug another sweaty man?

Like I'll hug my homeboys, but like a.

There's a gentlemanly way to hug I mean sometimes you hug like a normal hug But we got to be like very good friends for that.

I don't really like I Don't really hug strangers.

I knew I don't really want to hug strange women.

I don't know you lady.

I Don't know you Put them big sweaty breasts all on know where that breast sweat came from Bottom line on the rural counterbalance

Higher black turnout in Milwaukee can be sufficient in a close race because of the concentration and margin of those votes as seen in prior narrow democratic wins.

It is not automatic.

Royal Republican strength is real.

It is consistent and it is geographically broad and Tom Tiffany is well positioned to maximize it.

So we need everyone who is eligible to vote.

to go and cast their ballots in the city of Milwaukee because rural red voters are exceptionally consistent.

We have a large number of what we call drop-off voters.

Drop-off voters don't vote in local elections.

They don't vote for mayor.

They don't vote for county executive.

They don't know who their older person is.

They don't vote for county board supervisor and they damn sure do not vote for school board.

You know, like all the important stuff, the things they can have a major impact on what we see when we look out the window every single day.

Drop off voters, they're not bothered with that.

Drop off voters will vote for governor and they will vote for president.

Even though they vote for governor, lower numbers will certainly vote for president.

We need those people who are only occasionally engaged to be fully locked and loaded and ready to do this thing because at the end of the day.

I think this state will be better off and better represented.

I think that the economy will be better.

I think that when we get a Democratic president in 2028, which is all but certain.

So there's this thing called political agreement that I've noticed.

So when you have a Democratic governor, which we have and have had since 2018, and you have a Democratic president like we had in Joe Biden, you know how much money Joe Biden gave Wisconsin?

They just called it COVID money.

That is a way in which a Democratic president can thank and reward a Democratic governor and a Democratic state for giving the electoral votes to that Democratic president, allowing them to get elected.

So they'll just give us a bunch of money.

That's when you get money for your infrastructure projects or highway projects, your roads, your bridges.

You get money for education.

You know, NPS got like a billion dollars in COVID money.

They didn't need it because they don't know how to goddamn spend it.

But they got it.

Joe Biden called it ARPA dollars gave it to Tony Evers and Tony Evers gave Millions of dollars to black-owned businesses just Ruben Hopkins at the black chamber got five million dollars And here's what he was supposed to do the governor's like here you go here's five million dollars Ruben create black jobs Ruben was like gladly

I'll gladly create black jobs for five million dollars.

The reason why we have one of the referenda on the ballot is because the Republicans that controlled the legislature were angry that we had political agreement, meaning a Democratic governor and Tony Evers and a Democratic president in Joe Biden and federal money was directed right to Tony Evers and Tony Evers decided where that federal money went.

And a lot of it went to black owned businesses, but a lot of people don't know that.

When we talk about gatekeeping in our community and I don't blame people for gatekeeping because you can't tell everybody everything because people will ruin it.

But there's a lot of black businesses that were sustained, survived and even thrive are still thriving now because they got millions and millions of dollars either through a chamber or they got direct aid or they got direct grants.

from Tony Everson because Tony Evers prioritized black businesses during COVID because we got hit the hardest.

The Republican said, we need to change the constitution to make sure that a governor cannot ever give direct aid to black businesses again.

This is why I was so upset at Shondelin for running as a Republican for the assembly.

Now, Shondelin is not going to win.

She isn't.

And she raises really good policy issues.

And maybe Soquana Taylor takes in some of those policy issues.

I highly doubt it.

But running as a Republican when they've done so much mean spirited, cruel damage unnecessarily, like they really, really hate us.

It's personal.

I don't hate Republicans.

I hate the MAGA influence.

Unvulnerable people that think they're losing their country And so the afraid and intimidated whites that believe you're losing your country to

I

Sherwin Hughes

don't know to us immigrants Muslims let me just Let me ease your fears for a moment even though I'm not in the business of easing your fears because I get it you guys are all panicking and we got to be worried when

Middle-aged and older white men get panicky because they shoot so just relax guys just relax You had a great run I mean I would argue a lot of it was immoral illegal Disgusting human trafficking a lot of rape a lot of slavery, but okay for you you guys did You did great for like 500 years, okay?

And what you worry about is when you become a minority That we

The Browns will do to you what you all have used your majority power to do to us.

Listen up.

We're going to do a little bit.

Sherwin Hughes

We're going to you're going to feel a little pain, OK, a little bit, but we're not.

We're not going to enslave you because.

We have the criminal justice system and slavery has got to be

like

Sherwin Hughes

Nerve-wracking Because you're thinking let's say I had a just a bunch of white slaves just I'd have to feed them casseroles I got I got a whole white slave house and they're taking care of my affairs for me.

I got a bunch of

Sure when we freakin hate these working conditions shut up All right When is the casserole gonna be done?

I don't know I got to go get some cream a mushroom soup all right.

I got a bunch of white slaves I Wouldn't get a good night's sleep because I'd be afraid that one would kill me like how do you rest?

You know what I'm saying if you have a bunch of people Really close because the big house of course where I live

My slave quarters, they're not far and in my plot and plan against me.

I don't think the institution is worth it because the rebellion Would eventually happen.

I

Sherwin Hughes

don't They be in their planning in their slave quarters, dude, you know, we're gonna freakin do like when master Sherwin goes to bed We're gonna go all up in the big house.

We're gonna beat them up real good Yeah

So And plus my armor gets higher from whipping them because I don't think the whites would be obedient slaves.

I don't think so I'd have to subdue them with like hockey games whenever they get all rowdy All right, master Sherwin, but no we're not gonna enslave white people We just want a better fair world.

We just want a shot at Having success like everybody else.

We're not gonna enslave the white people.

We don't

We have a lot of stuff that we still want to do and accomplish, and white people, we're not gonna... You know, we might... Like, black cops might pull you over a little bit more frequently, because once you're a minority, you're gonna see how bad it actually is.

In fact, I might even join the police force if I'm still alive and have sound mind and body.

When the whites are thoroughly in the minority, I might join the police force.

Because I guarantee, whenever that is, we're gonna need cops.

Uh-oh, what's that a Toyota Camry?

Yeah, let's pull them over I Walk up to them.

Hey, how are you?

I'm fine officer Hughes.

What what seems to be the problem?

I'll be asking the questions.

God damn me get out of the car Got dope in here.

No offers.

He was I'm taking my children to daycare And I'm taking this child to rehab because they have a broken leg that child ain't got no broken leg Get to get the kid out here.

C spots.

Where is the shuttle, man?

The Ambassador Hotel.

This is for the 7% of people that actually need a ride to the game.

There's also a map for shuttle pickup locations.

Rounding third barn grill also on Blue Mounds, Saz's 5539 West State Street.

Stenny's Tavern in Grill 800 South Second Street and who's on third?

1007 North Old World 3rd Street also Let me give you this little note to Before we conclude take our break and come back and talk to Al Milwaukee changed its NBA schedule because of the Brewers Once in a generation of Friday Milwaukee changes NBA schedule because the Brewers created a once in a generation of Friday originally appeared VOS is a national news

that the brewer or the bucks change their schedule against the bulls.

There are ordinary sports Fridays.

Then there is what Milwaukee is about to experience today.

The city has an NBA home opener on the schedule.

It's first World Series game in 44 years coming later that evening and a sports community preparing for a celebration that could last well into the night.

Milwaukee bucks have decided that the occasion is so special that they are changing their own schedule to accommodate it.

Instead of hosting the Chicago Bulls at 7 o'clock Central Time, the Bucks will begin their home opener at 3pm, allowing fans to turn their attention to the Brewers World Series opener against Tampa at 7.

It's not every day that an NBA franchise adjusts its schedule because a baseball team across town has accomplished something extraordinary, but the Brewers return to the Fall Classic has created exactly that situation.

And this concludes the Truth Weekend Guide.

I'm sure I'll see some of y'all out there in the streets.

I'm gonna take a break, come back, we'll talk to Al on the other side.

The

truth with Sherwin Hughes will be right back.

all right

Sherwin Hughes

without further ado hi al thank you for holding on how are you

i'm doing a good first of all i hope everybody have a great weekend and do everything that you are big enough to do but uh you've learned something up about the girl who's talking about tipping

You know, I thought that was kind of foul because when I thought about her, I heard her say, like, baby formula.

Well, my thing is, is why are you getting pregnant by somebody and you can't afford no baby formula?

You know, and she probably is from a different generation because there ain't nobody talking to her because, number one, if they drive a mini van or a Chevy Transverse, 9 out of 10, that's their baby, his mama's car.

And why is you letting somebody pop your cherry and nut inside you even furthermore?

Ain't nobody talks to you about doxy, prep.

Ain't nobody talk to you about no birth control, no plan B. Because here's the thing, these young girls ain't nobody talking to them because as soon as you feel that warmth feeling down there, you should be popping them plan B's like peppermint.

And I don't understand how, you know, and I understand, you know, when you, when you, when you want to feel like a woman you want to do, but, but why do y'all let these men get y'all pregnant?

That's why, that's what I don't understand.

If you drive, if you drive a J37 or J, a J35 insanity, you got it from Wally auction.

Why would I let you give me pregnant?

And your credit score is probably a 322.

What about 167 errors?

And you only getting maybe hair and nails and that and then you got to deal with Stretch marks and getting him boys from your ass spreading doing giving birth See nobody is talking to these girls because if they were talking to the generation They would have told them have some Vaseline on the side because how much do a job Vaseline cost?

Sherwin Hughes

What's the Vaseline for?

I shouldn't ask

I should Well back in the day

No, you're not going to get in trouble.

This is educational purposes.

They will take a hand of Vaseline and swoop it up the cooler because everything that hits Vaseline take up, you know, and then here's the thing that can't

Sherwin Hughes

be healthy.

Well, it might not be healthy, but you letting everything from six to 12 inches beat you down and your lips look like Chitler's ain't healthy

neither.

Because now everything's looking well out like raw

chicken.

Oh,

so what I'm saying is Nobody is talking to these girls.

So when I hear this girl talk about oh, well, I don't have I don't I don't have no money for milk.

That's so far So far maybe you should have sat on his face You really think I'm glad I'm not a woman because there ain't no way in hell you gonna bust me down had me all out of whack Just to get nothing

And you probably smoke a blackie mile and you got an oil ass Tahoe.

I can't get no down payment on no mortgage No new car and all I get is smelling like it's just smelling like manjuice and that And you don't want me out and I'm just walking around here with nothing But what if

that's the point?

What if she doesn't need a down payment on a mortgage or a new Tahoe or get her brakes fixed?

Maybe she just wants to enjoy

the pleasure women like the pleasure

Well, if she liked the pressure, if she liked the pleasure, don't complain because you was waiting tables.

He should have been weighing your ass and making sure you set up while you were out here second and letting this man dump all inside your vessel.

You probably walking around here talking in toms.

You don't know nothing about his micococcus, his cranny, and you, for the lady, are just to get hair and nails, to walk away smelling like onions and bleach, because you know, females smell like bleach.

And my stuff is all to what

Sherwin Hughes

it does

because it's very

Sherwin Hughes

alkaline.

Yeah, it's

well women if you're listening Please take notes and stop giving up your ass to somebody that's smoking black and miles The only thing you can do is maybe sit on their face and suck them off But don't give them no ass cuz nine out of ten.

They don't got no money What you gonna do next put a new poor 100 in your cooler and smoke it now Have yourself a good day and be safe.

Okay

Oh, wait a minute.

And the abortion is only cost $600.

So have that $600 on the side so you can suck that baby right up out of you.

All right, take care.

Thank God for being my joy and time of summer.

I thank God for being my hope for tomorrow.

I thank God for every good thing that he has done for me.

Hallelujah.

I

think

Sherwin Hughes

we needed a little religion after After

that

Yes

Sherwin Hughes

That's I'm gonna get I'm gonna go to hell for that I Don't know if Al's advice is universal Maybe if plan B was like Skittles like candy flavored I really shouldn't be talking about this because

My shows are family friendly.

I got a question which I don't want the answer to.

I can't understand something.

And some things are not meant for me to understand.

We don't always have to understand everything.

Some things are just not meant for human beings to know.

Maybe we find out in the afterlife.

Maybe we never find out at all.

I think one of the great things about being human is that curiosity.

But be careful because curiosity killed the cat.

Love women a lot very much to a fault even when I'm very mad at them.

I'm not really that man.

That's I love them.

They're great.

They're just I Like the way they look and walk and talk all of them.

They're good.

I like women Even the bad ones are good like pizza, you know I've never really had horrible pizza I've eaten it and I was like I've had better but I still it's pizza, right?

There are some women and maybe this applies to men, but I don't think it applies equally because I know whenever I say something about women People always want to flip it around and make it about men.

I don't know if this applies the same to us I don't know women are very They can be very protective Like over their their privacy and They may not want someone to know where they live because that's where they rest that might be where they are raising their children They don't want strangers knowing where they live.

That's fair and men too.

I suppose

Maybe men have a little less caution Women need to be very careful and very cautious right and you may not want someone that you don't know very well to have your address Even though I know an idiot girl who put her address on the internet because she wanted men to send her flowers And then she was shocked why she got strange visitors.

That's a story for another time But I think a lot of women especially single women if you're raising children on your own you don't want strangers to know where you live

And you might be very cautious about a stranger coming to your house.

Follow me.

I'm going somewhere with this.

There are some women that will let a stranger into her body before she lets him into her house.

Make that make sense.

You know what I mean?

Is that I'm not trying to be offensive here.

It's just it's a very unusual phenomenon.

Like, oh, and you can't know where I live.

But here you go.

Let me part the Red Sea for you.

I don't take a break.

Come back.

I got World Series Fever.

I gotta figure out what I'm going to do when I leave here.

What am I gonna do?

Do I start the festivities already?

I gotta make it till seven o'clock because that's first pitch.

Do I go home?

Catalano Square in the Third Ward, their party starts at noon.

I can't go out there that early.

I'll be dead by four o'clock.

All right, take a break.

Come back.

Go vote today.

Get that over with.

You can go to the many different early voting sites.

Go vote.

Everything will be fine.

Oh Carrie Washington is gonna be here in studio with Ray Nitty and maybe Shannon.

Maybe I'll.

Stick around for that.

Give me a hug.

Sherwin Hughes

I'm about to play the best gospel song ever

recorded Everybody

Sherwin Hughes

relax you ready for this

Such a good song.

Gotta play religious music after that call from Al.

You know what this is.

You know this song.

I like gospel music that fools you into thinking it's not gospel.

Come on.

We are in the midst of a monumental moment in the history of this city.

Milwaukee's on the world stage.

I think that's a great thing.

Baseball team is likely to win the World Series We also could be on right on the cusp of electing an African-American governor while the history is very important I think he is a much better policymaker with a much more well-rounded point of view and someone who was not directed by the worst instincts of you know the Epstein files president a lot of things That we can shape for the positive and I hope that we're able to do that because I know that we do a lot of complaining hell I do a lot of complaining but

Every so often those that complain have the opportunity to banish their own complaints with their actions and I hope we're able to do that Don't get too drunk tonight get get a little

Sherwin Hughes

But don't drive.

Just have a couple of you to celebrate.

You deserve it.

You worked very hard all week.

We all worked very hard all week here at one on one seven the truth.

We had a very productive week.

Maybe some of you get a Toppy.

Maybe shout out to the people that are fortunate enough to have brewers tickets that are going to game one.

That is awesome.

Please tell us all about it.

Make sure you follow the.

Vanessa says she's gonna be outside Vanessa you got a fancy car I Ain't even gonna tell you what Vanessa drives.

I'm gonna tell you what I'll tell you this much She drives one of those kind of cars so when women drive The kind of car that she has they don't have to listen to anybody and a woman that doesn't listen is very dangerous

I think I'm gonna leave Tesla around to Jenkins Park this weekend.

I don't need none of y'all getting too close to my bumper.

Milwaukee Bucks are having their season home opener today.

It's been moved to three o'clock.

They are playing the Chicago Bulls.

It was probably a good move for the Bucks to move their season opener a couple of hours earlier because having the Bucks tip off at 7 p.m.

and first pitch of the World Series at 7 p.m.

Well, I know what I'm going to be watching and I'm a Bucks fan to the highest degree, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of scenario and I remember 1982 and I was seven years old.

But I remember the magic and the electricity and when I really became a baseball fan when our home team, Jim Gantner and Raleigh Fingers and Cecil Cooper, when they took us to the World Series against the St.

Louis Cardinals.

I don't like St.

Louis to this day because of that World Series in 1982.

I don't even want to drive through St.

Louis.

I'll avoid it on a map.

People are starting to show up here at the 3rd Street Market Hall.

It's gonna be a rowdy evening.

I'm sure it's the whole weekend because you got game to Tomorrow night, maybe we should talk about this.

Let me turn off the BB and CC wine and for a second if the Brewers win Tonight people are gonna go insane Tonight will look like in most other cities

We all get championships here very often just to let y'all know if you're a newcomer to Milwaukee We'll first of all welcome wipe your feet before you walk in but we don't get championships very often But lately we've been on a real nice upswing bucks in 2021 not to mention the other notable things that we've got we get all sorts of conventions We had the Democratic National Convention in 2020 the Republican Convention in 2024 Even though the Democratic Convention which was here it was virtual in 2020 we felt cheated because of COVID

But Kamala Harris did something very very special and I want Milwaukee folks to take this very personal because she didn't have to do it When she accepted her party's nomination she should have accepted it in Chicago because Chicago held the Democratic National Convention in 2024 Kamala Harris and Tim Walls drove to Milwaukee to accept the nomination in Milwaukee if you're a Chicago person

You should feel slighted because she got on the freeway and came up here and accepted her nomination In person in Milwaukee.

She left her own convention.

So if you were at Were they at the where were they at in Chicago the rose month horizon?

Wherever they were United Center, maybe You had to watch Kamala Harris accept her party's nomination on a TV screen suckers because she likes Milwaukee

We're punching above our weight.

And I think the sky's the limit.

I know a lot of people, you're not a fan of Cavalier Johnson for whatever reason.

Here's how history is likely going to write this story.

David Crowley gets elected governor.

We will start to see things improve and turn around within a couple of years because the investments and the resources, like you don't even know how much money Republicans have been stealing from us once that money is returned.

And we can start investing it the way that Milwaukeeans want their money invested in our people, in our education, in our infrastructure.

You are going to see a turnaround.

People will look at who was the leadership in the city of Milwaukee when the turnaround came.

And I think the renaissance of downtown really started with Tom Barrett.

Prior to that it started with Mayor Norquist because he envisioned a downtown Milwaukee that made people move from the suburbs.

You know we lost a lot of population.

A lot of folks got scared of Milwaukee when the industrial jobs left and they fled to greener pastures.

Now they're coming back.

Mayor Norquist laid the foundation for that.

He actually was an advocate for school choice because you cannot have a good city if you do not have good schools.

Let that sink in.

It's also why I talk about education so much on my program.

You do not have a good city.

unless you have good schools.

Everything else basically flows from that.

But Mayor Norquist envisioned a city that was so vibrant and thriving that people would sell their houses in the suburbs and move back downtown, but we had to give them somewhere to live.

The factories are closed.

They're not coming back.

We have to understand that nobody wants to work in a factory anyway.

Turn them into apartments, turn them into condos, turn them into housing that generates tax revenue.

Build it and they will come in the year 2000.

Build the new Brewer Stadium and they will come in the year 2017.

Build the new Bux Arena called the Five-Serve Forum.
