Sherwin Hughes

2026 ladies and gentlemen I like where we are right now we're in good shape things are looking good now that doesn't mean that you can count your chickens before they are hatched but I would rather be in this situation that we are in right now than in any other or certainly rather be in this one than the alternative I think that we are off to a good start

The election is essentially here yesterday was the first day of early voting and be able to do that until November 1st The election itself is going to be on Tuesday November 3rd I absolutely am going to go over with some detail the three referendum questions with one of them.

I believe being of prime importance because it relates to How we look at race in determining things and opportunities and college scholarships grants

how we look at a number of different programs in the state of Wisconsin.

It's a critical question because it can change the Wisconsin Constitution forever in a way that can permanently put in the past any attempts at racial reckoning or racial fairness.

It will take all that has happened, all the segregation, all the discrimination and lock it away.

and make it so that people and entities in the state of Wisconsin never have to address it.

And from that, and this is all on a referendum question here, from that you can see the dissipation of respect for African-Americans, African-American institutions, not just us, but just minorities writ large.

You'll start to see a dissipation of things like Black History Month.

You'll probably see fewer and fewer celebrations of Dr. Martin Luther King Day, and it can start with this referendum.

See, what happens is policy changes first and then attitudes change at some point later on.

I assure you in 1948, I'm sorry, 1954, rather, when Brown versus Board of Education passed the Supreme Court, you think that the country immediately jumped up and stood up and said, yes, let's integrate the schools tomorrow.

I will have you know that after that 1954 decision, 30 years later in 1984, under President Ronald Reagan, the US Supreme Court had to re-intervene where?

In Milwaukee County, because even after 30 years of Brown versus the Board of Education, the Milwaukee, West Milwaukee School District, rather, was not doing enough to integrate.

based upon a Supreme Court order from the previous 30 years.

So that's why these referenda are so incredibly important because once the policy changes, once the Constitution is amended, people's attitudes will then follow.

So if you are removing the...

ability to consider race and college admissions and who gets a scholarship and who gets a grant and who gets an opportunity to get a government contract.

And what will happen is the opportunities for those things will completely and totally disappear at some point in time.

So I do want to go over those.

I'm also encouraged, which is rare.

I'm usually very disappointed, but I'm encouraged that.

The number of people who have voted early on the very first day I do want to go over those totals with you Because it's promising and in a lot of these early voting sites and we've got I don't know maybe nine or ten of them scattered throughout the city some of them are in enclaves that are heavily Democratic performing.

This is good.

This is good.

Also have some polling information here, which also looks pretty good

Now, Davis is within the margins.

It is going to take some pretty robust turnout.

And why I want the turnout to be robust for obvious reasons, because I want to show a clear victor in the governor's race, but also if it's close, then there's the opportunity for people to doubt and to people to think that there was malfeasance and there was cheating and people double voting.

And you know, the Mexicans.

They might just jump over the border.

They might come all the way from Mexico to Wisconsin just to vote for David Crowley.

And then either, I don't know, stay here and work or maybe go back to Mexico, but they're going to drum up all sorts of conspiracy theories, I'm sure.

And people are likely to believe them because there has been.

so much mistrust so in government that nobody really believes anything and we know the Trump people have been perfecting this lie over many many years all you have to do is just cast a little bit of doubt on the election results and then people will question the entire election I find it very unusual and maybe you will join me in this thing that I find very unusual it's only when Democrats win is the

accusation of election fraud something that we discussed but when republicans win those are the only fair elections huh that sounds that sounds mighty suspicious to me because we don't ever question

the election and the reelection of Republicans, because then of course every vote is counted and everything was totally fair.

There was a little bit of mail-in voting, but not too much mail-in voting.

Speaking of mail-in voting, the president himself uses mail-in voting, but you can't use mail-in voting.

You know where mail-in voting started in the Civil War, because there was people fighting each other.

A couple of blacks, they didn't really want to give us guns, but a few of us fought.

A lot of whites very angry at each other.

And there's an election going on.

the election of 1860 and the Civil War people were like, oh, darn it.

If it wasn't for this pesky war for the soul of the nation, I would be at my local clerk's office voting in the election.

And then America said, fear not, Civil War fighters.

You can vote by mail and then get back to fighting and.

By fighting, I mean shooting Southerners in the face, but then the South kinda won the Civil War, cause we didn't totally eradicate the Confederacy.

Speaking of Confederates.

Hello, Alan.

How are you?

You're on 1-on-1-7 The Truth.

Hey, how are you, Sherwin?

I just got out of the hospital.

I got real

Sherwin Hughes

sick.

Oh, no.

Sorry to hear that.

What's wrong with you?

Mental hospital?

No, no,

no.

Why would I be in a mental hospital?

Sherwin Hughes

Oh, I don't

know.

You need

Sherwin Hughes

a new liver or a new kidney?

No

I don't think they liked me too much.

They didn't like my brother being involved when he started telling the doctors what to do.

I'm listening to you talking.

I'm really, you know, I'm really interested in this stuff.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, guess what happened with the developers?

They got raided, man.

Ice made it up here.

It's not a bunch of real legal.

Another federal government is involved in our fight up here.

They're finally looking into these guys.

the misuse of the grant.

So it takes a long time, but the wound does turn, my friend.

So you know, good luck.

I know you want Crowley to win, you know, I don't.

But as long as we're gonna well vote and so it can be on the up and up, I think.

So we'll see what happens.

Anyway, God bless you.

Sherwin Hughes

God bless you too.

God bless your liver and your one kidney.

I'm assuming the other kidney is fine.

I think it will be advantageous for someone who is very familiar with Milwaukee and Milwaukee's problems.

Let's not blame the problems in the city on a particular person who has chosen to represent people that live in the city.

We're going to stop doing that in our politics.

If you happen to live in a place, you're from a place and you're elected by the people of that place.

You're elected because you have strength of ideas and maybe you ran a great campaign and maybe you were elected because you have solutions for that place.

And if that place is in fact in need of solutions like we know Milwaukee is, you can't blame somebody like David Crowley for all of the things that are happening in this city because I assure you each of those things and those crime things and those poverty things and those joblessness things were happening before David Crowley got into office and were likely happening before he was even born.

I do believe.

That his policy ideas have been more helpful than harmful, but also think it's important for someone to Ascend to the governor's office that knows that if Milwaukee is doing better and is stronger the rest of the state will follow and I don't know if we've had that prevailing attitude and people who have been elected governor before I think Tony Evers Understood Milwaukee and he would try to do what he could to support it, but he wasn't from here.

He didn't see the dynamic he has not

Growing up with and inside of the institutions of this city specifically now he may be very familiar with him Especially on paper, but he ain't from here.

David is from here.

Here's another benefit That I believe would exist if David Carly got elected by the way the debate is tonight at 7 p.m.

On WISN channel 12 that is our local ABC affiliate You will also be able to stream the debate online via YouTube.

I am not hosting debate coverage

Not did it last time not doing it again was fun made for a long night.

No, we didn't do debate coverage.

We did.

Um, I think I did do a debate watch party, but then Dr. Ken and I did primary election night coverage.

I'm not doing that again either.

I will post on my social media this afternoon where I will be watching the debate.

There's a couple of debate watch parties.

I'm not going to tell you on the air because some of you are insane and will probably try to harm me.

So only the people that follow my sure win Hughes Instagram account I'll post it on there for those people because some of them people are cool some of them are crazy, but some are cool Having a governor that's from Milwaukee I Think he's important because he understands a dynamic but also a place like this where we myself and many of you including Alan Who's got a kidney and a liver problem

You'll be all right.

We come up with some fantastic ideas.

Some ideas, not fantastic.

Others, top notch.

What we all come up with, what we all discuss, has a better chance of making it to the ear and to the desk and to the policy than if any other person gets elected governor.

What we come up with, because this is what democracy is supposed to be,

We identify a problem.

We all don't like it.

We all put our heads together We come up with a solution and that solution we hope the organic solution Can be implemented so we can rectify the problem because people in the neighborhoods and in the communities are dealing with the problems every day whether it be reckless driving or crime or Whatever it is Poor levels of education.

So our solutions me and should be respected number one, but also should be considered

For a policy creation, okay?

I don't think Tom Tiffany would do that in fact there would be a chance that if Tom Tiffany got elected governor We would never hear from him ever because we know who he represents and it's very very clear If Tom Tiffany has voted with Donald Trump 100% of the time what you think he's gonna be different as governor He doesn't know how to be different his political identity

The person that is currently in the White House and dare I say in these days and times that we are in considering inflation and the war Why don't we do this?

Why don't we keep it real?

Should we keep it real?

Let's keep it a thousand.

You know who's fault it is the Brewer's tickets are $2,000 Donald Trump That's right.

Oh, I saw the Brewer's ticket from 1982 where you can get a bleachers seat for eight dollars Now now that was in 1982.

Okay, fine.

I'll adjust for inflation

Twenty seven dollars and ninety three cents could you imagine going to the world series for twenty seven dollars and ninety three cents in today's money?

I'd buy a block of tickets Donald Trump's fault I can't go see it guy team World Series game in my city when I drive when I go downtown when I drive to work I literally see am fam stadium every day when I get on 170 I look at it now I got to look at it and just wonder and Just wish Trump's fault

If you want to be able to afford to go to a baseball game in your own city, vote Crowley.

Take a break, come back, got some things we're going to dive into today, got some polling, got some early voting data, got a little more information about the only debate that is going to take place between these two candidates.

I'm hoping to see a very polished, steady leader in David Crowley.

And with Tom Tiffany, I just want to see a scared old guy who's afraid to be on stage with a black.

First day early vote totals are as follows.

I want you to pay attention to two numbers in particular.

Not just the number of voters.

I'm gonna give you the cast ballots at each of the sites with the number of registrations You often don't get people registering to vote in a midterm election So if there are any new registrants especially on the first day because the first day is when there is like the most hoopla and excitement because this publicized is promoted I believe that Christina

Candy classy girl says that the mayor and Congresswoman Moore were at the Midtown early voting site to take pictures.

That's good.

We want them there for the photo ops and maybe people get excited to see Cavalier Johnson and Congresswoman Gwynne Moore.

I guess I get excited to see him, but I've seen him so many times that if I don't see him, I'm perfectly fine.

But if I see the Congresswoman, I say, hey, Congresswoman.

When she first so she got elected a no for I remember that campaign like it was yesterday and then I started at WN OV and 12 And Congresswoman Moore literally lived like six blocks away From WN OV and back in my early days of the radio.

She would just hop in her car and Text her oh sure and I'll be there in two minutes.

She lived one stoplight away So sure when I decided I was gonna stop by but I got my red beans and rice on the stove So I got to get back home in a couple of minutes

I used to enjoy those conversations with Congresswoman Gwen Moore.

But back in the day, we never envisioned that America would be like this and where we are right now.

There is a level of optimism back then.

Obama's second term, like running into or leading up to Obama's second term, there was a great optimism because we got four years of the black guy under our belt.

We also saw a perspective of racism that a lot of people didn't see.

The best teacher is black success.

Because we still believe God blessed the blacks that if we achieve a level of success by following all the rules or I don't know breaking all the rules Whatever the case may be their racism will disappear and they'll respect us the respect our accomplishment they'll look at the merits meritocracy right you work your way up and just Stay dedicated and boom you'll be successful regardless of your race.

We actually believe that if we achieve That racism will simply fade into the background

No, it gets worse.

And that's what's very difficult for us to swallow.

But Barack Obama showed us that because the better he did, the fewer scandals he had, the more they hated him and the more they hated us.

Let me tell you why they hated us more because that means we have potential.

Nothing is more frightening than a black person's potential in America.

Because here's the thing.

What are you going to do with it?

What are you going to do with it?

Are you going to support the nation?

Are you going to be a patriot?

Or are you going to rebel against this system?

And I want you to take any point in American history.

Maybe you take a slave revolt or a slave rebellion or slaves running away or slaves getting their freedom and going up north and then challenging the ideas of slavery long before slavery.

And I want you to think about that.

political perspective and also think about slavery.

It's something that is deeply, deeply conservative.

It's religiously conservative and politically conservative.

I want you to get that in your mind before I give you these early vote totals and the numbers I want you to pay attention to when I give you the early vote totals, the number of registrations and the number of people that drop their ballots off.

But hold your horses.

I'll get to that in a second.

I want to give you the definition of where I believe something was birthed.

If you think of the institution of slavery and whatever you know about it and the rebellions and the escapes and Those that made it to freedom that wanted to challenge the institution of slavery because it's a lot easier to challenge it in 1758 in Boston Then in New Orleans, right?

So if you got up north is a lot easier to gain the sympathies of the enlightened ones about the institution of slavery

that if you were deep in the throes of it, you understand me?

You do, of course.

Good.

American leftism was born from black people.

The left is ours because it was the original anti-slavery and abolition movement.

And the leftists at the time were us and those that were abolitionists, but it started.

from a desire to be free and free from the clutches and the confines of this exceptionally conservative institution.

And I say that because Christianity is still the religion of the KKK.

Now at some point we can have a conversation about black people's adherence to the same religion as the people that burn crosses, but we're going to be optimistic today because I think we're in a very good place.

I think we're off to a good start.

American Serb Hall saw 505 voters, three new registrants, and 20 ballots dropped off.

The Clinton Rose Center saw 131 voters, 10 new registrations.

That's pretty much 10% of the votes that were cast were new registrants, and then five people dropped their ballots off.

So drop off, sorry, you received your ballot in the mail, you filled it out at home, and you're bringing it to one of these early-vote sites to drop off.

This is good because these are folks that they're not even chance thing sending their ballot in the mail and having it arrived late That's something else.

We're gonna have to be concerned about You have up until if I'm not mistaken election day itself to have your ballot postmark You know the post office takes a little couple few days.

I Should know both of my parents worked at the post office.

In fact, my parents have met at the post office.

I Don't think anybody knows more about the mail than my parents

Nothing exciting about it.

Trust me, but it but sometimes takes a couple little few days I never understood why if I mail a letter in Milwaukee It sometimes takes more than a day for a letter that I mailed in Milwaukee to get to another address in Milwaukee But I don't question it because once I put that mail Into the big blue mailbox.

I don't even say it's in the post office's hands.

I think it's in God's hands.

I think God

Is responsible because sometimes you will mail stuff and it never gets found ever again I've had people mail me things over the years.

No, not often.

Sure.

What did you get that thing that I sent you in the mail?

Huh?

Well, when did you send it?

1994 No, I haven't received it the Good Hope Library 320 voters on the first day eight new registrants and 27 drop-offs

The Marquette Alumni Union, 72 voters, 18 registrations, one drop off.

I like that.

I like that.

That's 20% of the votes that were cast in Marquette.

You know, college kids, even though it's a Christian college, I think them some liberals.

It's the Jesuit college.

Those Catholics are usually more liberal.

Jesuits usually hang out in the hood.

You ever noticed that?

You ever see the...

And they'll be missionaries to be two white boys that look like twins, but they're not twins We're in white short sleeve shirts and black ties trying to convert people to Christianity.

God bless them too Midtown big numbers 671 Early votes cast on the first day 21 new registrations 53 people dropped their ballots off the Mitchell Street library 68 votes were cast early on the first day six registrations.

That's 10%

of the votes that were cast for new registrants, there were zero drop-offs.

The Villa Library, 104 votes cast on the first day of early voting, five registrants, one drop-off.

The Tippi Canoe Library, I think that's down there in the Bay View where the liberal barefoot white people live, 326 votes on the first day.

Wait a second, I did Midtown Double Tippi Canoe Library, damn near.

Actually better than double.

Five new registrants at Tipika New Library early votes site a drop-off the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Zalazo Center 269 votes on the first day 19 registrations 14 drop-offs the Washington Park Senior Center I don't know if you get more of a Democratic stronghold in the Washington Park Senior Center because even the white folks who live near the Washington Park area are liberals and Democrats

That, the Good Hope Library, and, well, the Clinton Rose Center, obviously, and then Midtown are African American Democratic strongholds, so the higher the votes.

Cast there the better off it is for the Democratic candidate UWM Zalazzo Center 269 people voted on the first day 19 folks registered 14 drop offs Washington Park Senior Center 230 votes on the first day 14 registration 16 drop offs and the Zidler Municipal Building right in the middle of downtown did see the highest first day early vote turnout at 702 ballots cast on the first day 20 new registrants

and 43 people took their ballots and dropped them off at the municipal building right here downtown.

First day totals are 3,398 early votes cast in the city of Milwaukee.

There were 129 new registrants and 188 people dropped their

ballots off on the first day of early voting.

I think we're off to a good start.

Take a break.

Come back.

Let's discuss some polling ahead of tonight's debate.

The only debate between David Crowley and Tom Tiffany will discuss the polling on the other side.

Commissioned by City Forward Collective and YouGov was online full disclosure.

I was sent this poll and I participated in it.

Let me tell you why because I vote in every single poll.

I mean, I send y'all polls every single day via the YouTube.

There was a period of time where we used to complain that we didn't get poll because when polling was done on the telephone, African-American communities didn't get polled a lot.

Lot of times we didn't have a home phone African Americans were early adopters of having a cell phone as your only telephone I remember the days of having a cell phone and having a house phone until I realized having a house phone was stupid Why pay two phone bills before a good amount of time You were polled via your home phone polling companies and Consultants didn't yet have a large depth of cell phone numbers.

Hell they got them now

That's where they get them from every time you register for a website because you know when you say except all cookies gotcha So now we get pulled more often and there was a period of time in which I would hear about all these other people that would get pulled and then the polling results would come out and I would say Dagnabbit That's not reflective of the community of which I'm a part because none of us get pulled now I get polls sent to my email and I get polls sent to my cell phone

And they know my name is very cute.

Hi, Sherwin.

We're asking Wisconsin voters in your area what they think about social and political issues and about some upcoming campaigns.

Would you like to participate in the poll?

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

Click the link.

I did a poll yesterday, actually, and I got a five dollar visa gift card.

Huh?

Just for participating in the poll, it was long.

It.

It's used a lot of my time, but I'll take five bucks.

I would have did it for free Now here's the thing who gonna be the lucky recipient of my five dollars?

I Got some money now I fired out.

Here's the thing.

You know how you get money That you didn't expect and it's like free money.

It's not even real.

Oh, I love falling into some money.

I don't give this five dollars or five thousand When you get a little money that you didn't expect

Don't know sometimes just somebody owes your money.

Maybe and they pay you sometimes I don't know you get an extra check you ever just get a check in the mail Hi, we're the government.

We messed up here's $78 78 Then I'll go buy something for $78 probably not the smartest thing financially, but I have my finances in order All right, let's see what we got here

The poll was commissioned by City Ford Collective.

You gov conducted it online.

The survey included 2000 Wisconsin adult in which Sherwin Hughes was one with 1715 respondents included in the gubernatorial vote question.

Of those respondents, and this poll was long too, by the way, 46% support Crowley, 42% support Tiffany, 9% were unsure.

And two percent say they don't plan to vote at all.

If you go and look at the relatively small handful of polls we have here since the primary across all of those polls, we see a range from a Crowley lead of about three points to five points.

Charles Franklin said, and he is the commissioner of the Market University Law School poll, which if you've noticed, I don't reference that poll anymore.

There's a reason why I don't reference.

I just can't remember it They made me mad or something happened where they were inaccurate or I don't know, but I just I did away with it I think it's cuz it's inaccurate and their sample size is way too small Because they're cheap it should spend more money on the poll their sample size statewide is like 800 or 900 people that's insane when I my company does polling we'll have a sample size of 2,000 people in the city of Milwaukee

Marquette University Law School will do 900 people statewide.

That's not an accurate representation of anything.

However, I digress.

As for why Crowley is leading, Charles Franklin says it has to do with party loyalty.

At the end of the day, independents and moderates will ultimately determine who wins.

He says that voting block typically isn't as engaged until about a week before the general election.

This sounds like someone who's not even familiar with...

the attitudes of voters.

When you have an issue like affordability and inflation and the war, moderates and independence and all those other people, they've been decided.

They've been decided.

They broke away from Trumpism probably before anybody else did.

And this isn't necessarily about party loyalty, because this is not a primary.

Primaries are party loyalty.

This is a general election in which the Trump administration can potentially be held accountable.

Funding can stop flowing to a variety of foreign places because we need as much aid here in the United States as ever.

And there might be a stoppage of sending unlimited resources to a war in the Middle East.

Let me tell you something if you don't know this already.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret.

America don't win wars no more.

We just don't.

We're very bad at war.

We're not good at it.

We were kind of a long time ago, but we had to have a lot of help.

Then we got nuclear weapons because then we're like, okay We have nuclear weapons now there should be no more war because eventually America's gonna lose one and we've lost pretty much all of Go for it on count.

I don't even know what that was the go for 1991 was a damn video game The war tonight Iraq and Afghanistan we lost the Vietnam War we lost whatever the hell we're doing right now with Iran we're losing

Even our ally Ukraine.

We're not even helping Ukraine and we're helping Russia the United States is providing aid and buying diesel From our enemy that is shooting at one of our allies make that make sense I said all that to say this this has little to do with party loyalty and if there isn't I think there's enough people around the country They're they're a little fed up

Because Trump lied in the boldest possible way he lied about everything directly to your face now.

There's still gonna be some people that support him But because the handful of things that he promised he was not able to make good on any of them and started an unnecessary and arbitrary trade war for nothing do start a trade war with Canada Canada Those are our friends.

That's like a canister's right on top of America's head.

They're like America's hat

They also give us a lot of wildfire smoke not happy about that, but at least they're a good trading partner Let's keep the trade going keep the wildfire smokes don't like that Trump said no more foreign wars got us in a foreign war And so I think that there's a cohort of people who who maybe transcend party identity that are just looking at Everything literally unraveling, but what did you expect honestly?

I still hear people saying, oh, we didn't know the Trump would be this bad.

Here's what you did.

You allowed the convicted felon to run the prison.

And then what the convicted felon is doing, because you made him the warden, because the president of the United States is the top law enforcement officer in the country.

And don't think law enforcement like cop, you enforce the laws passed by Congress.

That's what the president does.

The president doesn't make law.

They can veto, they can pocket veto, they can sign.

They can do some executive orders.

That's it.

They can appoint people.

You let the inmate 34-time convicted felon run the prison, and then he's picking people from like the different prison gangs to be like the secretary of energy.

the Treasury, the Department of Defense.

I'm sorry, the Department of War.

So he's taking just other prison gang members and putting them in leadership positions in the prison slash federal government.

And what did you expect?

Well, we don't know very much about how they are changing or how they might be changing and really only late in the campaign.

Are they likely to have.

Fully made up their mind, Franklin.

So why am I even quoting Charles Franklin?

City Forward Collective says it has been doing polling since the year 2022.

It also polled 1,038 Milwaukee voters about closing or consolidating Milwaukee public schools that are under enrolled.

Allow me to continue.

Nearly two thirds at 61% believe MPS's financial issues are serious enough to require school closures or consolidation.

and support grows to 71% after voters hear arguments for and against the idea of closing and consolidating schools.

The survey also found voters would rather see NPS closed schools at 37% or cut administrative costs 28% before asking taxpayers for more money with 49% opposing another property tax referendum and only 37% supporting one.

The next referendum, I don't care what it is and what the district asks for, they ain't gonna get it.

Let me tell you why.

People are already maxed out.

We're taxed out.

A 30-year fixed interest rate if you want to buy a house is probably gonna be flirting with 8% if it's not already.

People want to move and can't afford a new mortgage.

Gas prices are too high.

There's just way too many things going on for taxpayers to say, yeah, yeah, yeah, go ahead.

Add on to our property taxes.

That's gonna make rents go up.

When I talked yesterday about the 1.457 billion dollars that the district has as a budget and even with that money We know what the reading scores are.

We know what the test scores are.

They're not good But there's a failure to even keep children safe with a budget that that's that large

The district needs to figure out what it needs to do to do the most basic of priorities is make sure that the kids are safe from sexual abuse.

Why don't we start there before you start asking us for more money?

Because that should be the primary focus and the priority.

Test scores, I believe, are secondary, but you got to be able to keep the kids safe.

And with the amount of money they're getting right now from all sources, they can't even accomplish that.

phone number here is 833-212-1017 833-212-1017 reviewing a little polling information for you today.

We also shared the first day early votes totals.

They're looking promising.

They're looking pretty strong for a first day.

And I do believe that we are off to a good start in this upcoming midterm election.

Let's talk to Hello, Bob.

Hello Sherwin.

You know, you know, it's no way I'd watch this debate man because he voted with Trump a hundred.

It reminds he voted with Trump a hundred times.

It reminds me of me asking my mother.

She's deceased now, but I asked her, why are you watching Fox News?

I gotta know my enemies.

I gotta know where they go.

It gives me to aggravate what this man voted with Trump and the most and plus you say vocal crop.

So I kind of go with your flow.

Sherwin Hughes

Listen, stop.

Watch the debate to see how David Crowley performs.

to hear what David Crowley is going to say, to see what he offers for solutions.

Watch the debate to see what kind of leadership David Crowley is going to offer.

I know you've already made your mind up, but don't you want to see the two candidates interact?

How do they look?

Are they showing confidence?

Are they showing like they are leaders?

Like that's what you should be watching for.

You don't not watch because your mind is made up.

In fact, that's even more reason to watch.

I watched Lindsey

Graham's Sister and that guy and it annoyed me.

I mean to see her How

Sherwin Hughes

she Bob that's Bob that's South Carolina ain't got nothing to do with you here in Wisconsin That's that's great that that annoyed you but that you can't vote for anybody that was in that contest That's a whole nother part of the country.

There's a whole nother set of voters

Maybe you should pay attention to what's going on right here.

Maybe if you took your little time and attention and focused it on more of what's going on right here, you'd be a little bit more knowledgeable.

We can have intellectual conversations.

Instead, I got to yell at you every day and it's elder abuse and I'm tired of abusing you, Bob.

I mean, I'm not going to stop, but I'm tired of it.

I don't know why you laughing.

I have no idea why nothing is funny.

I do have a joke, though.

No, I gotta go I got that's enough.

Nope.

I'm not you're still there.

Nope You guys want to hear a joke it's very controversial It involves transgender people September 11th and Michael Jackson Don't get mad at me.

I heard this joke somewhere

I thought it was really really funny, but it's a joke It's offensive But it's really funny and involves things that shouldn't be funny September 11th when the World Trade Center towers came down It involves transgender people and involves Michael Jackson

Type yes in the YouTube chat if you want to hear the joke type no if you don't want to hear it So when I tell it if I tell it and I offend somebody I'm not gonna take responsibility for it.

I'm gonna blame the people that said yes in the YouTube chat I Think it's really funny I Could be wrong.

Maybe my sense of humor is twisted and warped and yes, I'm still gonna get back to the polling information Don't worry the polling information isn't going anywhere

You want to hear the joke yes or no?

Type yes if you such a bad idea All right, I'm telling a joke a Transgender person walks into a bar in tower one Go up to the bartender and they ask for a sex change on the beach

And the bartender says, yeah, we don't have that here.

We don't even know what that is.

And the transgender person gets a little upset because they believe that they are being discriminated against and they are being targeted because they walk into this bar at the World Trade Center, Tower One, and they're asking for a sex change on the beach.

And the bartender says, yeah, we don't have that.

So the transgender person says, fine.

I'm going to go use the bathroom.

And the bartender says, no, I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

And again, the transgender person even more offended because first they couldn't get their drink.

Now they say they're going to the bathroom.

And they're being asked to leave.

And the transgender person says, I need to go to the bathroom.

Why are you asking me to leave?

And the bartender says.

Because a plane just hit the building So then the transgender person walks out As they're walking out of the building after the first tower had been hit They run into Michael Jackson just randomly in Manhattan Transgender person walks out of the tower sees Michael Jackson And Michael Jackson looks at the transgender person and it says

And the transgender person says no she her That's funny, right?

But it combines so many elements, you know, it just Everybody in the YouTube chat I Mean three people Told me to tell it so it's not

It's not my fault.

The Ugov City Forward Collective CFC Action Fund poll has David Crowley at 46% Tom Tiffany at 42%.

The Z to A research poll conducted from September 28 to October 1 has David Crowley at 49% and Tom Tiffany at 44%.

The Marquette University Law School poll that only samples 692 voters and it was conducted September 16th through September 23rd has David Crowley at 49% and Tom Tiffany at 46%.

Another Marquette University Law School poll with 843 registered voters conducted at the same time, September 16th through the 23rd has David Crowley at 46%, Tom Tiffany at 45%.

Aggregators such as 2702win.com, which is a website that combines polls from all over, show a recent average of David Crowley at 48% and Tom Tiffany at 44%.

Prediction markets like Kalshee have priced Crowley as the clear favorite, roughly 80% implied probability in mid-October snapshots, reflecting the consistent but modest.

Democratic edge plus fundamentals in an open seat.

I Like where we're at.

I think we're off to a good start early votes

Sherwin Hughes

Welcome to Hour 2 of The Truth with Sherwin Hughes.

I gotta read this comment on YouTube from LadyB.

She didn't want me to tell the joke It was a joke that I told a little while ago if you're just tuning in that involves the World Trade Center on September 11th a transgender person and Michael Jackson all combined into one joke I heard the joke somewhere and I thought it was very funny So I decided to tell it today on the air to mixed results

Lady B didn't want me to tell the joke because she has Michael Jackson tattooed on her Why would you do that in which version of Michael which one there were many?

Black Afro wide-nosed dark-skinned Michael or the Michael that none of us recognize why would you?

Why would somebody do that?

I don't want to question you tattooed people because you all have your reasons for why you have your tattoos because you know they mean something to you or whatever a Michael Jackson I want to see it Lady B. I want to see it.

I want you to send Because I know you have a picture of it because why would you get a picture or a tattoo of Michael Jackson and not have a photograph of it?

I want us

Because I want to see which version of Michael you have permanently inked on your body.

Is it his name?

Is it his face?

And if it's his face, he had so many faces.

Michael Jackson before, after the allegations, because if you got the tattoo after the allegations, I got to wonder, why, why would you?

Is this the thing?

Do people get celebrities?

Tell you what.

Somebody get my name tattooed on him.

I've asked people to do that before.

Nobody's done it.

I don't have any takers yet, but I'm still hopeful.

Get sure when tattooed on your body.

Now, here's what I have had.

I have had people get like the temporary tattoos of my name.

I shouldn't be telling you this.

That's some ownership stuff right there like I liked it.

I didn't know I didn't know she was going she was gonna do it and then I've seen that I was like Come on now it washed off Can I tell you guys one more?

I'm just this is a long time ago.

Oh I shouldn't do it.

I'm doing it.

I Had a permanent marker

And I wrote my name on her butt cheek in permanent marker.

It was funny.

I thought it was hilarious.

She didn't care, because she knew it was going to wash off.

When she sat on the toilet to use the bathroom, it imprinted, part of my name imprinted on the toilet seat and her son saw it.

supposed to know that's so lady B can I see the Michael Jackson tattoo I mean I won't show anybody if you don't want me to but if you want me to show people I'll put it on my Facebook but I'm just very curious as to what the Michael Jackson tattoo is and was there ever a day in which you regretted that did you wake up one day like oh man I should have got maybe Tito a less controversial Jackson

Jermaine Jermaine wasn't in any freaky stuff.

What about Latoya Latoya gets no love Rebe gets no love wouldn't expect you to get a Janet Jackson tattoo But I'm just saying there were less controversial Jackson's because you can show love to the entire Jackson family Without having to get Michael because Michael just I gotta I gotta tell you I gotta tell you some of the things Bother me a little bit

And I don't want to believe any of it, but I also saw a documentary that I never should have seen.

If you're a Michael Jackson fan, you never should watch this documentary because it won't necessarily change your mind.

It's going to make you think about things that you never thought about before.

A lot of these things are plausible.

A lot of it is he said, I would say he said, she said, but he said, he said, and it just.

Makes you think about stuff that you never really want to consider because Michael Jackson was probably one of the best

entertainers the world has ever seen he was amazing he was immaculate and if you are of a certain age there was a Michael Jackson song or album or something playing in the background at an event at a barbecue at a birthday party it was the soundtrack to a lot of our lives and that was his angelic voice and oh when the thriller album came out and then the thriller video the entire world stopped to watch that thriller video it was very thrilling

Let's talk about the referendum, shall we?

Wisconsin voters will decide three proposed amendments to the state constitution.

Voting no on all three would suggest the proposals could restrict future Democratic governor's governing authority, limits emergency public health responses, and weaken the ability

of public institutions to address longstanding racial and gender disparities.

And I would like to start with that one because this one might be getting lost in the shuffle.

The third proposed referendum basically says that race and or gender will never, ever, ever be considered in everything related to the state, the state government, college admissions, et cetera.

I don't believe that we need to change the Constitution to reflect that.

I think that institutions need to have flexibility to deal with their own past discrimination.

So if there was a company or a college or whatever for a period of time they did not allow

black people or indian people or asian people or latino-hispanic people they just didn't allow them for a long period of time i think that if that company that agency that institution says you know what for a long time we did not allow diversity to walk through our doors now we want to make up for past transgressions

This constitutional amendment will make it illegal for that company to make that decision.

If a company says in the past we were very mean and bigoted and very discriminatory or a college or a university or anything, they have a history of intentionally discriminating.

If they decide today that they want to make that right and they want to provide opportunities to people that they banned from opportunities in the past, the Constitution will say they can't do it.

I don't think that that needs to be in the Wisconsin Constitution, that if a business, a company, an agency, or an entity wants to make good and wants to rectify their past transgressions, they should be able to do that.

Referendum number three, government discrimination and preferential treatment, what it does.

prohibits government entities from discriminating against or granting preferential treatment to individuals or groups based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, national origin, and public employment education, contracting, and administration.

We should preserve lawful targeted efforts to expand opportunity to diversify public institutions and address documented barriers affecting historically disadvantaged communities.

Here's where the tough sell on this one is going to be.

Here's what I think, and I could be very narrow-minded in this, and if I am narrow-minded in this, please widen my mind.

If a white person who has maybe fallen between the cracks and they're not doing well, and a white person in the state of Wisconsin, let's also be clear that the state of Wisconsin is 79% Caucasian.

They may read this referendum and think,

If race is going to be considered in opportunities and college admissions and contracting and administration White people will believe that they are going to be excluded and I can't I can't argue the contrary if a white person sees something That is intentional and wanting Racial diversity white people will think that they are going to get completely excluded and I don't know

if they won't get excluded.

And it's a very, very tough sell.

But also, it should be noted that there is a history of barring competition from non-white people in the state of Wisconsin throughout many institutions for a very long time.

I think there's also a misconception that because the North was anti-slavery, they still were really super prejudiced.

And I think that was a wake-up call.

for a lot of folks who fled either the Jim Crow South or the Antebellum South.

They thought that if they got up north where slavery never really existed, it wasn't the institution in northern Midwestern states as an example.

At one point it existed everywhere.

It was in New York, it was in all the colonies, but then as Manifest Destiny pushed settlements westward.

Slavery was not allowed in new territories, and I would argue that was probably one of the biggest reasons for the Civil War.

The South wanted to expand the slavery map.

The North did not.

Let me tell you why, because that's how the North was enlightened.

This will be a good topic for discussion if you want to argue with your family over the Thanksgiving dinner table.

White people in the North believe that slavery stifled their economic opportunities.

and they did not want to expand.

Now, you might think to yourself, well, how is that?

Because if you can purchase the life of your laborer, you're not going to hire a white person to be paid a wage.

If I can buy a person and make this person perform all of the laborers and all of the duties, all of the agricultural duties, all the domestic duties, then why would I on top of that hire someone and pay them hourly?

Meaning, if slavery existed,

If people in bond is we're performing a society is labors then no one is going to make any money Performing labor you are unable to sell your labor does that make sense?

It makes sense in my head.

I just want to make sure it makes sense to you Whites in the south Didn't quite see it that way because they thought that they could get some kind of opportunity within the slave system.

They couldn't They plantation owners

Had southern whites convinced that slavery was also good for them even though these poor white folks own nothing hell they were sharecroppers too Because they couldn't get jobs whites in the south couldn't get jobs because all of the labor was occupied by the slave workforce So white people you could be an overseer, but if there's a plantation of 300 and slave people what do you got 10 overseers?

That's not enough

Employment opportunity for all of the other white people that live in that town Slavery has always undermined white people's economic viability in the north.

They understood that

They knew that if slavery expanded and you could just buy people, they also feared that they unemployed white people could get purchased too.

Now we do have a form of slavery and it's not the 13th amendment form of slavery that you think slavery now is low wages.

It's rising prices and low wages because guess what?

If you make nine dollars, I'll even humor you.

If you make $15 an hour, do you know how many hours you have to work to afford food, gas, rent a mortgage?

You are enslaved.

to your employer.

Now, you think, well, I'm going to work all these hours.

I'm going to stack up this money.

You don't have time for a life.

You don't have free time.

You're not reading to your kids.

I don't understand why people don't go to parent-teacher conferences.

I totally get it.

And it's not because of lack of want.

They don't have time.

You know what else bothers me?

A lot of things bother me.

I started this show on optimistic notes saying that we were off to a good start.

Now, y'all done got me mad again.

It's so bad and people need to work so many hours to make ends meet that they come to work sick You should not have to come to work sick If you don't feel well ladies and gentlemen, we have this stigma I don't know where it came from that we prove our toughness By coming to work when we feel like we're dying.

I know I'm not doing that no more every morning when I wake up Here's what I do alarm goes off.

I Say a couple of explicatives because that's just how I wake up

And I do this thing around, I get up and I put my feet flat on the floor.

I'm sitting on my bed and my feet are flat on the floor and I got my hands on my knees and just kind of bent over and I make a full assessment.

How do we feel today Sherwin?

Anything hurting?

Anything bothering us?

Are we stuffed up?

Do we have the sniffles?

Are we coughing?

Are we sneezing?

Do we have a headache?

Do we have a backache?

Hell, do we have a frontache?

How are my elbows?

How are my knees?

I go through a full assessment.

And I better check out 100% because if I don't I'm sending that email I'm like Xavier player recorded show last I got to send an email.

I think to 744 people If I need to take a day off because I'm not feeling well, I think the last time I did it I sent an email to just Xavier

Not to the other 743 people.

So then I got 743 emails saying sure when you should have sent an email to each and every one of us So now when I have to take a day off for work, I just run a goddamn add the journal signal Just to make sure I cover all my bases, but I'm not coming to work when I don't feel I'm not coming to work sick Especially if I got the cold or the flu gets your flu shot We'll be fine if you're an older person don't worry about the side effects and the reaction to the flu shot That's mostly for young people because their immune systems are stronger

So when you're younger, you're going to have a much more adverse reaction to the flu shot because your immune system is like, it's fighting extra super hard and getting ready to get all the antibodies.

But if you're older, immune systems are weaker.

You don't even feel I got my flu shot last week.

I forgot I got it.

Arm wasn't sore, not nay and nothing.

I ain't even believe she's like, Oh, sure.

When you don't need a bandaid, you're not even bleeding.

There you go get your flu shot don't come to work sick, but there's a modern kind of slavery.

We don't realize it.

I think folks are starting to feel it right now I Can't conceptualize trillion dollar companies I can't There's so much money concentrated in so few hands that you don't you want to mother so much poverty There's so much money concentrated in so few hands.

There's not enough money for the rest of the people to even eat in a Ford gas that's

That's what it is.

At the same time, our health care is almost unaffordable.

Like, I hate the fact that we still have to do, like, health fairs.

And we got to offer, like, screenings for health exams, because we still have a large number of people that don't have health insurance.

It's horrible.

Awful.

But slavery still exists, but not in the form in which you think.

Because the whole point is obviously to get as much free and cheap labor as you possibly can.

If you can enslave white people, then we'll go overseas and get some third-world country labor.

The argument preserve lawful targeted effects to expand opportunity diversify public institutions and address documented barriers affecting historically disadvantaged communities this amendment The government discrimination and preferential treatment basically they want to make affirmative action or anything that can be even considered affirmative action Unconstitutional forever that is what this amendment is doing.

This is one of the three that you're going to see arguably the most important one because it can

have a real serious impact on future contracting, employment, and college admissions for minorities in the state of Wisconsin.

It's very, very easy for companies and agencies to discriminate.

It is very easy.

If this amendment passes, it will be, like discrimination will be permissible.

Legitimately and if somebody wants to sue if a black person doesn't get an opportunity or doesn't get a scholarship Or doesn't get admission and we sue it'll say you can't sue because the Constitution does not allow for us to look at Your race your gender your ethnicity your country of origin that is entirely not fair when we can illustrate and demonstrate that extreme that

discrimination did exist for a really long time.

And you know how many dreams weren't realized because of that discrimination?

You know how many people couldn't go to school, couldn't get the loan, couldn't get the grant because companies and agencies and institutions and universities were discriminating?

What this amendment does is it says that if people vote no on the no passes, that means that companies will be able to determine.

How they want to make right past transgressions and we want that latitude to be with those companies Not the state saying that they cannot make right on those past transgressions You're gonna vote no on that.

I'm gonna take a break come back go through the other two amendments You're gonna vote no on those two just pretend that the amendments are Ladies pretend it's a man that you don't like cuz y'all know how to say no then Fellas I would say

Pretend it's a woman you don't like, but we're still likely to say yes to a woman that we don't like.

I don't know why we do it.

We just do.

Oh, I got it.

If you're a man.

No, I can't even use that example because some men like men.

If you're a straight, heterosexual man and you like ladies, how would you respond to a very, very gay fellow?

I mean, his hair is long and everything.

He's got makeup on, he's wearing heels.

Nice heel, he's got nice legs.

I mean, whatever, he's got nice legs.

He was an athlete in college.

What would you say to that man that was approaching you for a date?

If you're a heterosexual, cisgender, straight man, and you read Playboy magazine, and you drive a pickup truck, and you got big old balls, what would you say to a man that's named Bruce?

Who smells like Chanel number five approaching you for your phone number you would say no so just pretend that the ref referendum I Can't tell if I ever offend the gays Well they still call so I guess I'm okay the truth with Sherwin Hughes will be right back

Sherwin Hughes

Yes, Linda, I will go over the other two ballot referendum questions.

I started with number three, because I think arguably that's the most important.

It is a way to enshrine prohibiting any kind of affirmative action policies in the state of Wisconsin forever.

Laws are one thing, changing the Constitution is another.

In the event that this referendum passes, referendum number three, the affirmative action referendum.

Life will be a little bit more difficult for non-white people in the state of Wisconsin.

And I don't want white people to think that by allowing these considerations that they're going to lose anything.

In fact, here's how I will frame it.

If you have to believe that there's been a history of discrimination in the state and that that discrimination can still exist and that it does continue.

Donald Trump and the election of him should be evidence of that but we'll table that for a moment if a company wants to Make right or diversify Who is on its board who they hire if a university wants to Create a campus that is much more reflective of the real world They should be able to do that without sacrificing somebody else's opportunity

They should be much more open in their considerations of how they want to build communities, how businesses want to build its workforce.

Your workforce, I believe, should be reflective of your clientele.

And if your clientele is getting more diverse, well then your employees should as well.

If there are more extended opportunities,

to people of racial and ethnic minority background.

If they can have better opportunities to get jobs, to get into college, to better themselves, the safer everyone is.

The less we will spend on criminal justice, the less we will spend on corrections, the less we'll have to spend on law enforcement if we have a mechanism.

that allows businesses, agencies, and institutions to provide more opportunity, especially if they want to make up for past transgressions where they stifled opportunity.

We should allow those businesses to do so.

The government should not be telling agencies and entities what they can and cannot do, including the government itself.

If opportunities are extended and afforded to people where they traditionally were not,

it makes

Sherwin Hughes

everyone safer.

A society in which everyone has the ability to make money and take care of themselves and their family is a society that does not have to steal from other people.

They don't have to rob other people.

I assure you white people, you guys are gonna be just fine.

No, you really are.

Trust me, you're gonna be great.

But black person has a job.

That doesn't mean that that job should have gone to you.

It means maybe you suck.

That's the thing with... I'm gonna be nice to the whites because they're a sensitive sort.

Sometimes you're not gonna get the job no matter what because you're just not good.

But I think you may have grown up in an environment where there wasn't any...

Real competition from an educated black person Hispanic person or Asian person like your parents and your grandparents may have grown up in a world where we were not a factor We weren't we weren't applying we weren't allowed We black people brown people weren't permitted now we are and so you've got to be a little bit better But don't we want people to be a little bit better?

To be more competitive at the end of the day, don't we want the best Americans to get the job to get the opportunity?

Don't we want our businesses and companies to be competitive with the absolute best people and the most educated people and the people with the best backgrounds so we can compete against China?

The toughest thing for a diverse country It's very hard for us and I don't know if America prides itself on its diversity we used to

Or at least when we let a bunch of diverse white people in America love bringing in the Italians and the Irish and the German and all the other Well, kind of we had some negative slurs For the Italians, you know what I was shocked to hear I was listening to the morning show this morning that Homer blow went to go see Jersey boys.

I was wild I Think Homer just probably might be a theater person, but I got us You couldn't pay me to go see that I argue

With one of my very Italian friends.

He's almost too Italian for his own good and the debate is He believes because the Italians hold Frankie Valley in an esteem like we probably hold well Michael Jackson I wouldn't be surprised you got a bunch of white people with Frankie Valley tattoos on their butt cheeks wouldn't be surprising to me But they hold Frankie Valley in a kind of esteem like we would hold Michael Jackson in Prince

And I argue with my friend because he thinks that Frankie Valley was actually better than any singer from Motown.

Oh, good Lord.

Any verse from a Marvin, any Marvin Gaye song ever recorded in the history of human ears would beat anything in Frankie Valley's catalog.

But I'm not going to win that argument with an Italian because they're very committed.

The Italians are.

But we don't see ourselves as a country that gets its strength from its diversity, because really that's where your strength comes from.

Because when you have different people from different places that have found different ways to succeed in very adverse conditions, maybe in their own countries, and they bring that knowledge to the United States of America, it helps us solve very complicated problems.

We in America have to compete against one race nations.

because one race nations can use all their government spending to take care of one another.

One race nation can give free health care and free education to everybody in their country because they're only helping a single race of people.

The reason why we don't have those same kinds of amenities and what I try and explain a democratic socialist but they just don't get it because they live in some parallel universe.

The United States does not have free health care, does not have free college, does not have a universal basic income because the powers that be don't want black people to also get those things.

And the powers that be are content to let white people suffer deep in the throes of poverty just so a black person gets nothing.

Do you understand that?

Because they know that if you give us a little bit

We will make the most out of it.

Next thing you know, you have a second black president speaking of which.

I do like that governor Westmore.

I like him.

I'm just saying I like

him

Sherwin Hughes

and

I don't like many.

Sherwin Hughes

But I'd be nervous to vote for another black president because I know what the backlash will be like.

America really hates when we do good, don't they?

I went to a NASCAR race in 2024 and Bubba Wallace was racing at the time.

I don't know where Bubba Wallace is.

And there's not many black NASCAR drivers.

There might be a couple, not many.

Bubba was actually okay.

He wasn't great.

He didn't get many first places or even top tens, but he was holding his own.

And they introduced him prior to the race.

He just got booed.

You know what I mean?

Like give the dude some credit.

He's a black felon in NASCAR But NASCAR has got some deep racist roots But I was shocked though because it's um the pit crews are really diverse a lot of black people on the pit crews.

I didn't know that NASCAR started as Moonshiners and rum runners during prohibition had to have vehicles that were faster

Then law enforcement because transporting booze across county lines across state lines was illegal During prohibition and so they built these really super fast cars so they could outrun law enforcement and Then when prohibition ended Those rum runners and those moonshiners were like what do we do with all these fast cars?

We don't have to outrun law enforcement no more.

Well, what should we do?

And one of the rednecks was probably very moonshine drunk, which is a very different kind of drunk than any other.

Maybe we should race our cars.

Sherwin Hughes

NASCAR was born.

But it was birthed out of.

Making your car faster than the cops.

You ever wonder why the good old boys hate law enforcement so much?

It's weird because Donald Trump, he changed it, but he didn't.

So to see MAGA beat cops.

was shocking because we're like oh they're all law enforcement.

Do you remember a show called Dukes of Hazard?

Bo and Luke Duke with their fast Dodge Charger always running away from Boss Hog and Roscoe Peacole training.

You guys understand the premise of the show, the Dukes of Hazard?

Was also the foundation of how southerners that made moonshine were outrunning law enforcement You got to be old enough to remember that show.

So Boss Hog was the sheriff's name

He was a pig we call cops pigs remember boss hogs Southerners

Hate law enforcement should I give you another example?

I'll give you one more example and then I got to take a break because I want you all to be very informed when it comes to this you want to know another reason why southerners hate law enforcement because of civil rights laws When civil rights laws were passed and Jim Crow was in it the South hated it They hated the federal government federal troops having to go to colleges and universities to make sure that black children were safe going to school They hated the intrusion of law enforcement.

The southerners have always hated law enforcement

Historically, because it's the law trying to tell them to change their ways.

It's the law trying to tell them you got to integrate this school.

It's the law telling them you have to let these black people vote.

It was the law telling the southern moonshiner rum running redneck that you can't transport your corn liquor over to Attala County.

So there's a deep history with southern whites hating law enforcement.

Then Donald Trump also talk about how much the FBI was after him because he kind of hated law enforcement too and to see the mag of people beat up and eventually even killed some police officers on January 6th That is a theme that is as old as America You're welcome the truth with Sherwin Hughes will be right back

The second referendum deals with religious gatherings during emergencies.

It prohibits state and local government from ordering places of worship closed or forbidding worship gatherings during declared emergencies, including public health emergencies.

So what happened was during the pandemic, apparently people wanted to get the hell out of the house and they couldn't get out of the house because we had to get the pandemic under control.

I inside being in 2020 and the fact that COVID was almost seven years ago, we totally overreacted.

We did.

But we were doing what a good society is supposed to do as you look out for the best interests of your votes, your most vulnerable people, not your strongest.

Strong people are going to be fine.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's the other folks we've got to worry about.

So people were desperate to get out of the house because again, there's this.

understanding amongst conservatives that they don't want the government telling them what to do.

And I've given you examples of the South when civil rights laws were put on the books.

The people in the South, the races, the segregationists, the bigots, the Dixiecrats at the time didn't want the government telling them what to do.

When they were making moonshine, they didn't want the government telling them that moonshine was prohibited, they didn't want the government telling them.

What to do oftentimes you'll hear conservatives talk about we want a small government government is too big too many regulations because they don't like government having more power than they do That exists and so during the pandemic same thing.

They're very consistent the conservatives are They don't want the government saying you can't leave the house.

You can't go to the

store and you can't go here because the world is closed.

We're closing down the businesses because of COVID.

And so they got creative and they said, well, we have a constitutional right to practice religion.

And of course, the state is going to agree with that because we uphold and support.

people's religious freedom because it's constitutional.

So then they got crafty and they said, well, during a pandemic, when you close everything else down, we should still be allowed to go to church and worship.

Here's what they're actually trying to do.

They're trying to find a loophole to where they can defy government orders during another health crisis or during another pandemic.

Because here's what you're going to find.

If this referendum passes, then it shouldn't is that people will call anything a church.

Let's say there's another pandemic, which

We flirt with another pandemic all the time, actually, especially with the US Department of Health and Human Services being a shell of its former self.

It's just a matter of time.

So we get another pandemic and everything gets locked down.

People are going to say, well, I want to still be able to go to church.

You can't tell me I can't go to church.

But then a bar will then apply for church status or some other optional place that people are going to want to go to.

when things are supposed to be locked down.

They're trying to find a loophole to where they can defy the government order to shelter in place.

That's what this referendum is and it's stupid.

It's a dumb thing to do.

If we have a global pandemic, we should allow the experts and health experts and scientists and doctors determine what is the best way forward.

And if it is sheltering in place and locking down so we can prevent the spread of another pandemic, then that's what we have to do.

Our biggest problem, though, is that people didn't shelter in place.

They didn't want to get vaccinations.

Our ignorance prolonged COVID like two years longer than it needed to.

The number of anti-vaxxers there are some people that I just never would have thought in a million years were anti-vaxx because you know, we've all been vaccinated That's why none of you have probably never had the lockjaw because you got a tetanus shot It's probably why a whole two three generations of people have never gotten the measles even though people are getting the measles again Which is insane the measles were like eradicated in 1980 or 1981 we decided that the measles

We didn't want the measles anymore.

So we got a vaccine and we vaccinated everybody and the measles went away now all of a sudden The measles vaccine that people had been getting for I don't know half a century now all of a sudden it's dangerous and I get it people that aren't Very knowledgeable about about things they notice some things some correlations Everybody's got autism now and everybody don't don't everybody have autism.

There's so much to them Everybody's on the spectrum And people don't know where it came from

Here's where I think the expanded autism spectrum came from.

Sometimes it's performative.

If you're a person who has had every single opportunity afforded to you and you've always gotten the benefit of the doubt and you've had the best of everything and you still fail at life, that's why I think some people need a diagnosis.

Well, I'm mentally ill.

That's why I'm a failure.

No, maybe you just suck.

People just resign to the fact that, oh, it's got to be mental illness.

No, some of you just aren't very good.

It's okay.

Get better.

But just everybody...

Can't just say oh, I have a mental illness that must be the explanation as to why I'm broke No, you're broke because you're bad with money not because you got diagnosed with the Tism Because then you always can say well I'm broke and I'm not doing very well in life because I got the Tism and now a white person in particular Has a way in which they can be discriminated against it's actually cute when you think about it, but it's damaging The reason why I think we have so much Tism and expanded definite.

I shouldn't call it Tism.

That's not nice

Why there's so many more people who are being diagnosed with developmental disorders is because the technology to understand developmental disorders has gotten larger.

And so it seems as if there are more people that have these developmental disorders than a long time ago.

And so what people are doing is, oh, it's because of the vaccines.

No, it's not.

If you get the measles vaccine and then all of a sudden you develop.

develop the autism.

I believe he would have gotten the autism.

Even without the measles vaccine.

Because here's what we don't want.

We don't want you to have autism and the measles.

You know what I mean?

That's too much to be tizomed and measled.

That's a rough life.

But no, I don't think that there's a correlation.

But like some stupid celebrity like Jenny McCarthy, not that she was any kind of major celebrity.

She was in Playboy.

She became this crusader for the anti-vax movement and people followed Jenny McCarthy and there was others that joined in.

So no, no, no, my child got a vaccine and now they have the Tism.

Maybe Jenny McCarthy had a Tism gene in her body.

Maybe she had genetic Tism and then she had a baby with somebody who I should stop calling your Tism.

I apologize.

Maybe the child that she had that ended up getting the Tism Maybe she made it with somebody and made it she bred with somebody that also had a gene for Tism and they had a baby and they got a baby Tism But you don't need to have autism and the measles so get the measles shot because it's not gonna give you the autism chances are your autism is already coming or maybe it isn't I Mean do I have the Tism some days I think so I got something.

I'm either lead poisoned I Still can be productive

So that's referendum number two.

I'm gonna take a break, come back, and I'm gonna talk about referendum number one, and I'm gonna give an example of how if referendum number one passes, then governors will lose their ability to deliver aid where they as governors see fit as opposed to having to go through a legislature in order to give those resources to the places that need them most.

This also extends back to the pandemic as well.

During the pandemic, Governor Ever delivered $125 million in federal ARPA dollars, the American Rescue Plan Act dollars, so COVID money to support minority-owned and diverse small businesses.

Tony Evers dumped millions of dollars into small black-owned businesses of COVID relief money.

which he had the unique authority and latitudes to do because he, at the time, was chief executive of the state of Wisconsin.

We have a very unique mechanism here in the state of Wisconsin.

If there is federal aid available, federal money available, federal relief available.

The governor sometimes gets that money first.

Sometimes the money goes through the legislature, but sometimes that money is given directly to the governor and the governor can decide who are the communities that need the most relief.

Let me give you another example.

Let's say there's a tornado.

Let's say there's major disaster relief.

The governor will make a declaration for a disaster relief declaration.

The president's like, OK, cool.

I got you.

I'm going to send some federal money.

The governor then has the ability to send that money to Oshkosh or Appleton wherever that tornado hit hard.

It is something that we have allowed.

But the Republicans got so angry that Tony Evers gave $125 million to diverse businesses, including black-owned businesses.

They said that you need to check with us first and the governor was like screw you.

I'm not checking with you.

I just like other governors have always had the right and the ability to deliver federal aid where I as the governor see fit because the governor is the only person who's elected statewide in all 72 counties, all 1851 municipalities.

The Republicans want to change that they want.

The legislature to be involved in funding decisions that the governor can unilaterally make they didn't care when Tommy Thompson did it They didn't care when Scott Walker did it But when Tony Evers did it they have a problem so they want to change that mechanism We vote no because guess what let's say that we have a request for federal aid under a new president Donald Trump is gone.

Let's say we have a new president a Democratic president and they say you know what

Milwaukee is suffering Milwaukee needs more resources for job training placement for education Vocational training and let's say the Democratic president of the United States elected in 2028 says calls up Governor Crowley said hey Governor Crowley We got some money for some folks in Wisconsin for job training and placement and vocational training We're gonna give you some money so you can allocate that money to MATC So you can allocate it to a Bradley Tech high school so they can reinvigorate the trades Governor Crowley would say thank you very much and then the governor will allocate that that money

The Republicans want to say, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you got to check with us first before you give money to people that are most in need.

Does that make sense to you?

The Republicans, this was literally started because Tony Evers gave money to black owned businesses and the conservative Republican legislature didn't like it.

But the governor is able to do that.

I also need folks to know this in the very crowd of primary for governor.

Tony Evers endorsed.

and supported David Crowley.

I don't want you to overlook how important that is.

Missy Hughes was an appointee of Governor Tony Evers, worked in his administration.

Joel Brennan led the arguably the most powerful department in all of state government in the Department of Administration.

Sara Rodriguez was Tony Evers' lieutenant, and Tony Evers still endorsed and supported David Crowley.

I need you to think about that.

Tony Evers supports and endorsed a candidate above people that Tony Evers had actually selected to work in his administration.

Tony Evers got himself into trouble with the Republicans because he saw that there was a need for dollars and monies and resources to be delivered to black owned businesses so that we could mitigate the black unemployment problem during the pandemic and the Republicans got so mad they said we're gonna change the Constitution so a Democratic governor or any other governor cannot allocate resources where they see fit because Republicans may disagree with black people getting money.

That is where this first referendum is coming from now.

They're not gonna explain that to you on the news, but that's why I'm here Wisconsin governor Tony I'm gonna tell you where this whole referendum started referendum number one about changing or Amending or preventing governors from allocating federal resources where governor see fit this is where it came from

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers allocated $125 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act dollars or ARPA dollars, pandemic relief funds to support minority-owned and diverse small businesses, including $86 million directed through the Diverse Business Assistance and Investment Grant programs.

Diverse and minority-owned business funding, Governor Evers expanded the initial minority-owned business relief total of $86 million managed via the State Department of Administration.

Chambers of Commerce and nonprofits, half of the program funds support ethnic and diverse chambers of commerce, including the ethnic and diverse business coalition to provide operational and technical aid.

So Ruben, what's Ruben's last name, Hopkins of the black chamber, got a check for like a million bucks from the governor and held it up in the air and took a picture with it on Facebook with a promise to create three to 4,000.

jobs in the African-American community.

And Tony Ebers was like, here you go, here's a million bucks, go ahead and create some jobs.

This is exactly what we want our governors to do, but the Republicans didn't like it because we African-Americans who are residents, who are citizens, who are constituents, receive that money.

Now the money went to other places too, but there was a priority on the businesses and on the chambers of commerce that needed the resources more than anybody else, because I don't know if you guys know this, COVID really hit the black community hard.

It did.

And what these dollars that came from the federal government, these were American Rescue Plan Actiles.

What they were supposed to do is supplement where people were hurting and where there was pain in the black community was hit extra hard from COVID.

And Governor Evers said, you know what?

Let's provide more money and more resources and more grants for these black and minority owned businesses because you have been hit the hardest and it made the Republicans mad.

They're a vengeful, angry, spiteful little party because the women don't want to sleep with them anymore.

It is

not my fault.

It isn't I have nothing to do with it They're just angry little men the conservatives are Trump and he said just they're angry Trump is

Sherwin Hughes

angry Their whole political ethos is just angry.

They're angry that they're losing their country They're angry that they're being outpopulated.

They're angry that they're poor and that they're hungry and instead of blaming the real reason people like Trump They're blaming us.

We're all in this together And it's not our

fault that your women don't

Don't want to hump you anymore.

I have nothing maybe we should

Welcome to our three of the truth

Sherwin Hughes

with Sherwin Hughes.

The answer your question will...

Will not be hosting a watch party via my YouTube channel Hughes views because I'm going to a watch I Would in the world and I will post where that watch party is on my social media probably my Instagram my Instagram is Mr. Sherwin Hughes if you're not a follower, please do so I also have a Hughes views 414 Instagram.

I got two of them which

Kind of unnecessary I keep the mr. Sherwin Hughes Instagram a little more private, but I will post on that Where the watch party is going to be?

It was another question.

I think

oh,

Sherwin Hughes

yes The black Chamber of Commerce did not get one million dollars of COVID relief money from Governor Evers.

They got five million dollars

So I'm giving the reason as to why the Republicans want to change the Constitution to prevent governors from giving aid to places and spaces and agencies and organizations that need it.

Because Governor Evers went above and beyond.

Like Governor Evers did a lot.

He did.

I know y'all don't see it.

I know y'all don't feel it because it's very complicated.

But he did more.

He acted almost like a local official in how he gave Milwaukee its due.

And we got a lot of respect from Governor Evers.

Lot of it because we often wonder well, where's our money at?

Where's the money going?

They're taking all of our money Governor Evers gave a ton of it right back to us to black businesses specifically In fact, he did it so much that the Republicans want to change the state Constitution to prevent it from happening again I need you to understand that that is why this first referendum is in existence because Governor Evers gave money to black owned businesses Including Sherman Phoenix

High-profile announcements included multi-million dollar rounds hosted at hubs like Sherman Phoenix Supporting black owned and diverse businesses.

Do you think that the Republican governor would have provided resources and aid and grants?

So black business hubs like Sherman Phoenix Hell no and because governor Evers did it the Republicans are like we got to prevent that from ever happening again because one thing they don't ever want black people to have is money The center for black excellence and culture and ladies and gentlemen

If you have not seen the Center for Black Excellence in Culture in Madison, please go.

To me, it is akin to like the African American Museum that they have in Washington, DC.

It's so big and beautiful, it doesn't even make any sense.

It's even more confusing because they built it in Madison.

We in Milwaukee don't have a building, don't have a structure like the Center for Black Excellence in Culture in Madison.

I went to the grand opening and I was astonished.

Like 50 some thousand square feet just dedicated to us our art our community our culture our education in Jason Fields former state representative Jason Fields is the corporate operating officer of the

Center for Black Excellence in Culture.

Governor Evers gave that organization five million dollars.

And here's the other thing about the Center for Black Excellence in Culture.

It's all self-funded.

They have no loans.

They don't owe anybody.

They don't owe any banks.

It is completely paid for.

Now, what we're trying to do with varying degrees of success is connect Milwaukee's African American community.

social infrastructure to that beautiful building and connected to Madison social and political African-American infrastructure but for some reason us Milwaukee black folks the Madison black folks is very different mostly because they are Madison is a very unusual city because economically it's almost recession-proof which is odd in and of itself but also there's a there's a history of racism in Madison too big time

Don't let these white liberal cities fool you.

So you ever heard of so there's a moniker Portland, Oregon keep Portland weird, right?

You ever heard that moniker?

I've never been to Portland But it seems like a unusual Middle-aged white Gen X utopia.

That's what Portland seems like Portland is weird because Oregon is a racist state That's that's the weird of Portland it's

They've had, they had sundown towns in Portland, Oregon.

Oh, that's the history of horrible racism in the Pacific Northwest.

It's awful.

Watching it stay too, but they're very liberal.

Liberal white people may oppose conservative and Republican policies, but also don't like black people.

You know what I mean?

So here's a, I got to explain this to people because we still conflate liberalism with lacking black people.

Some black people don't like other black people Right and if that's possible Then it's also possible For a white left-leaning liberal to also not like black people your political affiliation and the policies that you support and the people you vote for has nothing to do with your attitudes and opinions about race because you can be liberal and hate blacks you also can be conservative and

Black people You guys have been hearing a commercial playing on office playing across one on one seven the truth, but it's certainly playing on my show a Shondelin Reeves who is a political candidate running in the 11th Assembly District You'll see that if you live in the 11th Assembly District You'll see that office on your ballot whether you vote early or whether you vote on Tuesday, November 3rd Shondelin Reeves is a black lady

And she's running to be a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly of the 11th District.

Shonda Lynn Reeves is also a Republican.

I'm interviewing her tomorrow at 10 o'clock.

Hold on, I know, I know, I know.

I mean, she's a black Republican and I'm going to let you all, you ask her the question.

I got a list of questions I'm supposed to ask her, but it's just such a bad time.

To run as the black Republican isn't it?

It's just She's got a reasons and she's because she and I had a telephone conversation a couple weeks ago Because when I found out that she was running against a quanta Taylor, I was like, oh Why?

She's like sure what I will tell you why and she told me so tomorrow at 10 o'clock.

She's gonna tell you why Let's talk to another black Republican Hello, Al.

How are you today?

Hi, Sherwin.

I'm doing well.

How about yourself?

Sherwin Hughes

I'm doing good.

What's on your mind?

I want to jog your memory of a governor who took a veto pen and changed the wording to increase the school budget 400 years, $400 increase.

her student every year for 400 years.

That is where the plain reading of question one comes from.

Should I read question one?

Sherwin Hughes

No.

They're

going to use that.

Sherwin Hughes

So let me, before you run off on that tangent, because I figured a conservative would call and use that as an example.

Every single year we are going to have to invest more in education, whether we like it or not.

We have to have our students be competitive, not just against neighboring cities and counties, but neighboring states, neighboring regions, and neighboring nations.

The governor made a commitment to investing in public education because the governor is a public educator himself.

I assure you, Al, there will never be a point in time where we can spend less on education and get a better product.

Was it a bit overzealous potentially, but did it show his commitment?

So public education and most certainly did.

And I think of all people that need to benefit from public education, getting an increasing in funding, it's black children because a bunch of our kids can't read.

Now, was that something that needed to, you know, cause a constitutional amendment?

It absolutely did not because I would rather have a governor that will do that and then allow for aid to go to the places and spaces that needed most than to change the Constitution to prevent it.

Anything you want to add to that?

I didn't think so.

I know governor should ever use that veto power to create a tax or fee like that again.

That's what question one plain reading.

If you ask an attorney, they'll plainly read that to you because it says tax or fee it.

You can increase what you want to take out of somebody's budget and give it to a group that's already been allocated for.

You can

do

that, but.

Laying this extra burden on the people the homeowners the taxpayer $400 increase per student for 400 years every year increase $400

Sherwin Hughes

here's the here's the good

news and then they come back and ask us for another referendum We can vote no on that public schools right after that

Sherwin Hughes

We can vote no by saying they're already getting a $400 increase per the actions of the governor if you don't mind me asking I know this might be a personal question How old are you?

I am going to be 62 years old living in trying to hang out to my house in the city of Milwaukee where taxes of the property taxes are already high.

All right.

Well, guess what?

I'm going to do another

Sherwin Hughes

three hundred and eighty years.

You won't even have to worry about the tax increase because you won't be here to pay it.

You won't even for the for three hundred.

And 80 years, that tax increase will not be your burden, sir.

And I'm giving you a lot of grace saying you're going to live to be 80.

And I hope you live to be 80.

And I hope you have all of your faculties.

And I hope that you can still run around the Sherman Park neighborhood naked because I think the Sherman Park person is actually you.

But I'm just saying you don't have to worry about that tax increase for 380 years.

Don't even worry about it.

You're not going to be here to pay it.

Okay

politicians love to turn us upside down and shake every coin out of us because they think that our tax dollars belong to them No politicians should ever have that ability again

Sherwin Hughes

if black children can't read I think they might make a little more sense that we invest more money in public education It's fine Okay, so now you don't have to vote on the future NPS referendum because the kids are getting the $400

That was the politically safe answer as to why the Republicans are opposed to The power that because when Scott Walker had the same power they didn't say anything about on Tommy Thompson had they didn't say nothing about Because Tony Evers used his power as governor to invest in places that Republicans never would

They want to take that power away from every governor because Republicans also realize something that is why they are in such a rush to change the Wisconsin Constitution that the policies that they have created, especially during MAGA and Trumpism during this.

weird addiction that America's had with Donald Trumpism.

They know that their policies are falling out of favor, but they want to have their political sentiments represented in something durable and permanent like the Constitution, because there will become a point in time where I think Republicans will be in a permanent legislative minority in most of the country, just like they were from 1954 until 1994.

A lot of folks may be unaware for 40 years.

That is.

20 congressional elections in a row.

The Democrats had a majority in the House of Representatives for 40 years.

We are likely returning to that and the Republicans know it because Donald Trump has hurt the brand of their party probably more than Ronald Reagan did.

And so they want to make permanent changes while they still have the power to do so to reflect their political sentiments, which people are going to stop voting.

for those political sentiments because they are counterproductive and they are harmful.

Here are the real reasons.

Community Development Funds, the remaining half goes through Community Development Financial Institutions, CDFIs to assist micro-businesses with 10 or fewer employees, the majority of which oftentimes are minority-owned.

Diverse and minority-owned business funding.

Governor Evers expanded additional minority-owned business relief to total $86 million.

managed via the State Department of Administration.

Half of the program funds, supports, ethnic and diverse chambers of commerce such as the Ethnic and Diverse Business Coalition to provide additional operational and technical aid to minority and black owned businesses.

That is why they want to prevent the governor, future governors from having that power because Tony Ewer has done, gave you blacks too many coins.

Tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Shondlyn Reeves is gonna be here.

Y'all be nice to her.

She's hey relax everybody.

I know she's a black african-american republican but Maybe she has reasons as to why she's running as a black african-american republic and here's the thing I've known shondlen for a very long time.

She ran for a department of public instruction superintendent back in 2021 You know what else is crazy

Used to work for governor evers Governor evers appointed her to be the director of his Milwaukee office So she's credentialed She just was like screw it.

I'm gonna run as a Republican this cycle which a Shondelin Reeves she'll be here tomorrow.

He's a very smart lady.

He's dr. Shondelin Reeves actually she's an educator in her own right

Take a break come back and we'll talk to I don't know probably an angry Milisand I'm not sure what kind of Milisand we're getting today But we'll talk to her on the other side if you want to be like Milisand angry or not Is that racist to say that black women are angry?

Xavier says no, it's not racist because some of y'all are very mad I Probably should stop right there because I don't want black women getting mad at me.

I made a bunch of people mad yesterday.

I went after the

sororities and fraternities Because you know that they do their dances You know the fraternities a bunch of guys are jumping around barking You got to do all that damn dancing looking like Steve the stone or doing all that dworkin don't do that Man should not dwork.

It's It's just not

I think we're off to a good start.

Early voting numbers on the first day looking pretty good.

We'll see if they follow suit for day number two, which is today, actually.

I'll report on those numbers tomorrow when we have them.

Read off a number of polls.

David Crowley seems to be in the lead, at least within the margin of error.

And all of them that I listed, we're doing OK.

Now, I'm still going to need.

We're going to need a lot of folks to turn out to vote either early at one of the different sites I probably should go over those sites in which you can cast your vote early now through November 1 Or those of you that plan on voting on election day sure one is gonna vote on election day because I want to be all up in the mix I want to get off in my polling location.

I want to look around I want to see who's voting.

I want to look at the people I want to look at them in their faces.

I want to see what's going on I need to see how many people are in there

Because my ward and my polling location is Very deep in a working-class racially diverse neighborhood, but we are almost exclusively Democrats and so when I see a lot of people in my polling location That typically bodes well for the Democratic candidate.

So I'm trying to get all up in it I like election day.

It's like the Super Bowl with less alcohol or maybe more alcohol not sure I like election day events

I like all of the souls to the polls and all of the people giving people rise to the polls and all of the people that are outside with their banners and people are on the corner and they're honking their horns.

Oh, by the way, Ray Nitty, if you're listening, you're supposed to bring me a David Crowley yard sign.

So I hope you grab the David Crowley yard sign because it's time for me to display my yard sign.

Let me tell you why.

People on my blog know that I'm the politics man.

Some people on my block, God bless them.

They don't even know when the election is most of the time until I put a yard sign in my yard.

It's not supposed to be that way, but I willingly accept that responsibility because I put the yard sign out and I always have a neighbor that's outside.

Hey, hey, Mr. Sherwin is voting time.

Sherwin Hughes

Yes, sir.

Yes, sir.

It is Mr. Jones.

OK, then.

All right now.

Sherwin Hughes

I don't know why black people think all right now is a greeting and also a departure.

Somebody for the first time

hey all right now

Sherwin Hughes

all right then have a good day.

I'll see you all right now Just say all right now.

Let's talk to hello Milis on.

Are you angry today, or are you happy today?

I Am happy today.

I'm happy every day.

Sherwin Hughes

Oh, you're not

never angry.

Sherwin Hughes

Yes, you are.

Yes.

I am

Sherwin Hughes

I think you yelled at me yesterday.

I'm never angry now.

You might take me to TN, but I'm not angry.

I'm just there But I have a question

are actually an observation.

Do you think that the damage that is being done right now for America will ever be repaired?

When I say that, look at now, America is no different than Israel now.

We're killing kids too.

We're allowing them to turn off that link system in Ukraine.

and bombs are killing those people just for the sake of doing it.

We are now no different than them.

We have made enemies of people who should not be our enemy.

And I don't see them coming back to America.

I

don't ever

see

it.

I don't see it because it's like a bad boyfriend.

You've hurt you've hurt people really, really bad.

They might kick it with you, but they're not going to be your best friend anymore.

And I really am afraid of that because it's not just Donald Trump doing this.

This is America doing this because even the units of government, we have to stop this aren't stopping it.

And I think it personally, I think this is America at her best right now.

This is America.

This hate, this selfishness.

This is America.

And I think we don't like looking at it like that, but this is what we are.

And we need to accept that now and start working from that point on.

So I don't think for black people who don't have it together, I don't see it getting better for them.

Because right now we have to, we're fighting too many battles to worry about black people.

We always at the bottom.

I think the Hispanics are going to get reparations and everything they need before we are for what they're being done to them right now.

All of the immigrants will get it before we do.

Sherwin Hughes

That's the hell of an observation.

I have a different perspective, but I'm going to share my perspective in just a moment if you'll indulge me.

Yes.

Yes.

Go ahead.

With you off the phone.

I'll let you talk on your show.

OK.

Thank you.

Jesus Christ.

The units of government, namely Congress, that is supposed to be the chambers.

They push back against the president all of those people are replaceable and Because I'm gonna try and go through her gripes one by one, but I'm also going to try and summarize them The units of government that are supposed to be Like a stopgap between a runaway executive branch Has been faulty that is why the Republicans who control the legislative branch the federal government are not performing well

That's why this midterm election is likely going to be a nightmare for them.

So the mechanisms that are designed to curtail the crazy power of the president, that political party is likely going to lose big time.

So there's going to be some stability that returns.

I would not like in America to being.

A bad boyfriend.

America.

And so Millison thinks that all these countries that we have.

We have angered and because of Trump, we have picked, you know, the wrong people to be allies with.

We are siding with our enemies in these foreign countries that used to love America and used to be allied with America, that they have turned their back on America permanently.

No, they haven't.

They can't.

They love us.

Here's what other countries know that Americans don't know.

Every country, especially European countries, you think they haven't had mad kings before?

It was just America's turn.

They have had kings and rulers and leaders all throughout Eastern and Western Europe in particular that have cut people's heads off.

They used to murder women and do all sorts of stuff.

It was just our turn.

So America is not the bad or abusive boyfriend.

Think of America as your sister that's dating a bad and abusive boyfriend.

And right now you don't have any communication with your sister because you don't like your sister's boyfriend.

America is the sister, Trump is the bad boyfriend, but eventually America is going to break up with the bad boyfriend and then your sister will be coming back to Thanksgiving and Christmas again.

And yes, things will turn around.

That is what America does.

I can remember not even that long ago when the economy was in worse shape than it's in now.

And we were in not one, but two wars.

And our car companies were going bankrupt and the banks weren't lending anymore.

People's homes were being foreclosed on.

It was a really bad situation that we got in.

Two terms of Barack Obama saw the longest expansion of economic prosperity, saw the stock market double.

Millionaires were made left and right and the economy was so good that Donald Trump could get elected in

2016 and still ride the Joe Biden Barack Obama economy.

So as bad as things are right now, this country has a kind of political and social elasticity, unlike anything I've ever seen, because our democracy is incredibly flexible.

And when good people register and vote, the civility returns.

But if people have and harbor the attitude like middle Sonic, everything is terrible and nothing is going to get better, then it will absolutely stay that way.

But if people decide, especially those people who don't

Participate who don't pay attention who don't vote when they decide to get up off the sidelines and participate Civility will return but guess what it is up to us.

We still run and rule this country us the people We still do the hard part is getting the people to exercise their ability to run and rule the country That's the hard part

Because people are not used to what ownership feels like.

We own this democracy.

We own the people that we elect.

But only the people that vote have that ownership.

And if you've never owned anything before, you've never had that level of responsibility for something that you own, this is a foreign concept to most.

Also participating in things collectively another foreign concept to most most individuals are individuals and they are selfish They're just looking out for themselves and most of the time you have to because ain't nobody gonna look out for you, but every now and again we have these opportunities to come together I Thought that would perk up some of your black african-american ears cuz ain't black folks always talking about we need to come together We don't never come together.

God damn it.

We coming together when we vote

We're not all gonna go to the same party and listen to the same music and do all the same dances But when we come together you have to recognize those moments as being very special now I went over the damn poll numbers I Went over all of the great positive things that it might be coming our way if we make the right decision on November 3rd And it only comes together if we come together.

I don't know what y'all think

What coming together is it's not going to be everybody singing kumbaya because I don't want to hold everybody's hand.

But I will work in concert and in unison with people that want to see a better, more functional democracy that is coming together.

You know, you know, you can come together with people and not even talk to them.

You just go and do the thing that we need to get done like a whole bunch of other people that go and do the thing that need to get done to improve and to repair our democracy.

You ain't even got to talk to nobody.

Just go when you do it.

That's coming together.

You ain't got to share with everybody what you did Coming together doesn't need to be a headline in a newspaper.

It's just something that you do All right, we're okay now.

WISN is hosting the only confirmed debate between the candidates vying to become Wisconsin's next governor, and that will be tonight, Wednesday, October 21st, 2026, from 7 until 8 p.m.

The debate featuring Democratic candidate David Crowley and Republican candidate Congressman Tom Tiffany, who has a 100% voting record with Trump.

It's part of the station's ongoing WISN 12 commitment to 2026 coverage I Did ask via the YouTube today Do you plan on watching?

The Crowley Tiffany debates 72% of respondents said in fact, yes They are gonna watch the debate tonight.

I hope you do because we're gonna talk about it on my program tomorrow Let's see how they perform

Who exhibited confidence in a mastery over policy?

Who is more convincing?

Who is more believable?

Who is exhibiting the kind of leadership that we need in these trying times?

Who looks better?

Who's wearing the better suit and the nicer tie?

I have a feeling they have to tell Tom Tiffany to put pants on or he'd go out there with no pants.

He's one of them old-school dudes that wears boxer shorts with hearts on them.

Maybe no boxers at all.

I could see Tom Tiffany free ball in it.

I could see that but whatever I Am looking for a solid performance from county executive David Crowley because if I'm not mistaken Tom Tiffany has never been an executive I Really don't know much about his political career.

In fact Prior to him announcing that he was running for governor.

I didn't even I Used to could name

The entire Wisconsin congressional delegation.

I don't know who the hell they are right now You got a Brian van Orden, I think his name is dude is a nutcase That's David Obey's district Well, I remember David Obey.

He served in Congress for like 60 years.

It was crazy how long you serve Democrat, of course and then obviously Congresswoman Gwynne Moore

Got mark po can second district He represents the Madison area.

He's a gay fella.

None wrong with that Madison loves a gay they do you know Tammy Baldwin also used to represent the second congressional district that encompasses Madden Tammy is a gay She's a senator now.

I guess when you When you're a member of Congress And you're a woman you're gay when you are a senator you become a lesbian is that how then

I never know if I offend the gaze.

So yeah, make sure you watch the debate tonight.

We're going to talk about it tomorrow.

The story from WISN.com goes on to say quote the November 3rd election is right around the corner making this debate especially timely so voters can make an informed decision on election day says Sean Oswald, president and general manager of WISN 12, which is our Milwaukee local ABC affiliate.

We're going to be covering critical issues that impact Wisconsin communities.

The WISN 12 commitment to 2026 Wisconsin gubernatorial debate will be held at the Lubar Center at Marquette University Law School's Eckstein Hall.

The debate is being moderated by WISN news journalist Matt Smith and Geron Jordan.

The candidates will face tough questions covering a wide range of issues.

These topics include cost of living, taxes, immigration enforcement, data centers, and election security.

It also should be noted that Tom Tiffany is an election denier.

And OK, whatever, even though we've litigated that many, many times, if Tom Tiffany is such an election denier, then let's deny his ass this election.

This is just a suggestion.

You want to deny an election?

We'll deny you this one.

Buster.

In addition to being broadcast on WISN 12 across southeastern Wisconsin, the debate will stream on wisn.com and on very local WISN 12's free streaming app.

Ricotta or cottage cheese in lasagna and that should be a pole I'll do either but Ricotta is preferred It's a little creamier.

I like the texture a little bit better, but you do need One or the other in a lasagna.

I love it by the way, it's like a It's a meat noodle and cheese cake

Right It's a cake of meat noodles and The cheeses you got to have a bunch of cheeses in the lasagna.

I think you need a cheddar I think you do.

I think you need copious amounts of mozzarella You need your ricotta and or your cottage or whatever one you have you got to have you got to season the meat

You need onions and the green peppers and the Italian seasonings and the basils and the garlic powder and onion powder and a little salt and pepper in the meat and you gotta brown your ground beef and you gotta boil your noodles and you can get you a pan.

A lasagna pan, baking dish and you start to layer it.

You get to lay, you put your noodles and your meat and your cheese and your noodles and your meat and cheese and you layer it up until it reaches the sky.

You put it in the oven for several years because the lasagna takes a very long time.

And then when it comes out of the oven, here's the hard part because when the lasagna comes out of the oven after several years of baking, I'm ready.

Because the baking of the lasagna is the foreplay because your house smells like lasagna and you get very food horny.

You've been food horny before.

I'm food horny right now.

I will sexually assault the chili dog pause.

But you got to wait you got to let the lasagna cool a little bit otherwise you can't cut it You can't cut hot lasagna.

I've tried you got to get a spoon.

You got to scoop it.

I'll scoop some hot lasagna.

I'm not that way You know what else you need You need a nice garlic bread not You need a cheese garlic bread and then what you what you do

You got that hot pile of lasagna on your plate.

It's just a steaming You got that cheese garlic bread and you got you got to scoop it You got to use the cheese garlic bread to scoop that hot lasagna onto the you got to scoop It's a scooping mechanism But the look the garlic bread the cheese garlic bread, of course It's a scooping mechanism But you can also take a bite out of the scooper, which is the cheese garlic bread So you got the best of both worlds.

You got a fork full of hot lasagna.

It's just cheese.

It's ripping off

It's just, it's dripping.

It's so drippy.

And then you got your cheese garlic, but you got cheese everywhere.

Maybe a little cheese on your face.

It's fine.

I'm not judging you.

To answer your question, I'll gage both.

Let's talk to someone who knows very well about things that drip.

Hi, Al.

How are you?

Hey, I know it's about to be the end of the show and you feel to get out there and get with the get down and the jump down.

Sherwin Hughes

Yes.

And

it's not like a good design you but my question is for the

voters.

yourself a good day.

I'm about to go take care of a couple things.

Bye-bye.

Sherwin Hughes

Bye.

You heard him.

Where's the checks at?

Where's the stimulus check?

Where's the doge check?

Where's your $5,000 make your hollow check?

But no, that's only after the midterm elections and the Republicans retain control of Congress.

Do you get

Do you get $5,000?

No, there were some other checks that were prime.

We like checks.

There's nothing like getting a check in the mail, especially when you don't expect it.

You ever just sometimes get a check during the COVID times because people were driving a lot less.

Now it depends on who your car insurance company was at the time, but because people were driving so much.

less and there were so few accidents.

Some of your car insurance providers sent you checks like reduced rates and discounts because they weren't paying out nearly as many claims because we didn't have anywhere to go.

Some people's batteries in their vehicles died because they didn't drive for weeks at a time.

Now every now and again, I would get out and get into the world because we could still go to the grocery store.

remember I went to go buy some I needed some cheese actually speaking of cheese and it was a whole thing you had to put on your hazmat suit and put on your mask and you had to go to the store and we got to the store you got to stand six feet from the person that's in front of you in the grocery store line but the person who was in the aisle next to you was only one foot away

didn't understand that, but you go to the grocery store and you have a hazmat suit on.

Do you remember when people used to wear actual gloves during COVID?

They wore like surgical gloves and rubber gloves.

They didn't want to touch anything.

Oh, it was a wild time.

And if you wore glasses, which I do sometimes, and you put that mask on and you breathe.

And you would fog up your glasses.

So now you got the mask on and you're breathing and your glasses are getting fogged up.

And then there was those special people, a lot of special people during COVID.

You'd see them in their car driving by themselves and they'd have a mask on.

You don't need your mask on in your car, boo boo.

You can take it off, breathe.

You can take it off and breathe normal when you're in your car.

You don't need it to drive around.

And the mask thing, it's still.

It's happening every night again.

I'll see a YN wearing a blue surgical mask.

Oh perfect.

There's nitty.

Hey, did you bring my yard sign?

Did you you didn't bring it did you?

You did bring it Where is it send a car in the car?

What the hell good is that gonna do me dog?

Let me get your keys.

What kind of car car you got?

You can unlock your car from your phone

Where's your car at though we got 17 levels to the parking structure You know what I?

Can't so I got a hunt for your vehicle on the third floor, okay?

How about this?

Just tomorrow It's bringing with you.

No Bring bring with you tomorrow.

I was hoping I could display in my yard sign today, but I can't go

Because I parked on the second floor.

So now I got to go up to the third floor.

Look, did you park far away?

Are you near the door on the third floor?

I wouldn't never mind.

That's all right.

I get tomorrow.

I'll come back up here later.

Kidding.

No, I'm not.

All right, let's let's move on from that.

Ask a black person.

Black people always got to make stuff.

Let's get to the bottom of this.

In July 2023, Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers

used a partial line item veto to strike out digits and hyphen the state budget, transforming a two-year $325 per pupil school revenue limit increase into a 400-year extension lasting through the year 2425.

Evers deleted numbers from a legislative provision to change the expiration from 2025 to

425, which critics argue places a long-term compounding burden on local property tax caps.

In April of 2025, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled 4 to 3 that the governor's action was constitutional.

The governor stands on the 400-year revenue increase for schools.

Evers maintained that the move does not automatically equate to a property tax increase stating that local school districts and the Wisconsin legislature retain choices within
