See, that's the problem when you got people who, you know, they're so used to just doing

everything so low and by themselves, they, when they have a co-host, they don't like

And I know we have you, Dr. Ken, for the first hour, and I'm gonna hold the fort down

for the second hour.

There is a lot of not so great news happening in our community here in Milwaukee before

we get into that, because we've got a lot of interesting discussion and topics to share

with you.

That is hilarious.

So okay, before we get into some local news, what is going on with kids who are murdering

allegedly, their parents, I saw that Rob Reiner and his wife were allegedly murdered by

their son, Nick Reiner.

The police have arrested him and he's being held responsible for the death of his parents.

What is going on?

I don't know.

I think they have three children together and the daughter found them at the house, called

9-1-1, evidently they were at Conan O'Brien's house for Christmas and they were gotten

to an argument and I'm thinking to myself, wow, so you can go to a celebrity party and

see family squabbling like anywhere and evidently it carried over because the next day they

had been dead at least a day or two and when the daughter came to check on them, I guess

they found them deceased and called 9-1-1.

So let me just give some background for those who may not be familiar with Rob Reiner.

Now, I'm about to tell my age because I literally grew up watching what was probably one

of the most viewed sitcoms in the late 70s, early 80s, which is where our favorite, one

of our favorite shows, The Jeppersons, developed from and that show was called All in the Family.

And Rob Reiner played the infamous Son-in-Law, who would oftentimes have arguments with Archie

Bunker who was played by great Carol, what's his last name?

Carol O'Connor.

Thank you.

And many people know Rob Reiner is being a legendary Hollywood director, including movies

like When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, and The Princess Bride.

But for all folks like me, it goes back to the sitcom All in the Family.

And so what we now know is that Nick Reiner, and I'm doing the air quotes, allegedly is

being held responsible for the death of his parents, again, legendary Hollywood director,

Rob Reiner, and his mother, producer, Michelle Singer Reiner, according to the Los Angeles

police.

And as Dr. Kent had mentioned, the couple's daughter discovered them in their Brentwood

home.

See, Brentwood, see that, that's where OJ, let me stop.

That's where OJ, allegedly, I can't say allegedly, I can say.

No, you can say allegedly because he was not found, he was found not guilty.

Well, the criminal, but the civil he was, right?

Yeah.

So allegedly murdered his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, Brent Hood, man, that's huge.

So the couple's daughter discovered them in their Brentwood home yesterday.

And the 32 year old son was seen having an argument with his father, Rob Reiner, at a

holiday party, Saturday at Conan O'Brien's home.

And this was according to a source very familiar with the incident.

He was booked on suspicion of murder, and is currently being held without bail, which

I know earlier today, the son was being held on $4 million bail reportedly.

So now he is being held without bail, man, this is, this is crazy.

Kids murdering their parents, stabbing them.

Don't let them come over for Christmas, don't let them come over for Hanukkah, don't let

them come over for New Year's, no holidays, no Thanksgiving, you'll be fine.

Now, allegedly, I heard that the son had been vocal about his battle with drugs.

So he had allegedly a drug addiction.

Now I'm not saying that that's what attributed or cost him to stab both of his parents to

the death, nor does it excuse murdering your parents, however, it is a reminder that

you can't control other adults, however, when there are signs that your children, or any

close loved one or member for that matter, family member, is navigating through mental

health issues, drug dependencies, simple prayers and thoughts, that's obviously not going

to work.

Because the younger generation is navigating, again, I'll use that word, and dealing with

a number of societal issues, socialization issues that are driving them to the point

where they are resorting to this type of just, man, I can't even use the word violence

Dr. Ken, because it doesn't, what word would you describe, someone who, you'll have to

be beyond.

Yeah, it's hard, isn't it?

Kill your parents.

Yeah, it's hard, isn't it?

Sometimes you try to come up with words for things people did or you don't want to

sound like you're mitigating it or you're, you know, you're coming up with an excuse,

but some things you can't, you just can't fathom.

And what about this really just scares me the most is there are so many people who are

affected by drug addiction, by mental health issues, and that who are just overall just

not happy existing, and they hold their parents accountable.

And to your point, I'm trying to come up with the right words because I don't know the

situation that led up to this, but as a parent and also as a daughter, I just, I can't,

I can't relate Dr. Ken.

I can't think of anything that would be so horrific to wear because, and I don't want

to be too graphic, but shooting somebody is different from stabbing.

And for you to be able to stab two people where you, you, you stab them to death, that

is very intentional, and that takes a lot of like rage and fury and anger.

And I just, I, again, I'm bringing this up because a lot of us that are either have parents

or our parents are both, when we read headlines about this, it affects us, especially around

the holiday season.

So I really, again, I just don't know what else to say other than, man, this is crazy.

Well, remember, he had a drug addiction.

So I'm sure that played a part in it.

Somewhere in the time he was arrested and the time they set no bail was that they had set

bail at four million, but then he must have said something that I can only assume he must

have said something that caused them to say, no, we need to revoke bail and that this,

this guy doesn't need to get out.

Well, and I promise we are going to share some more positive news, but just here in Milwaukee,

and Dr. Can I apologize if you covered this on your show earlier, but for our listeners

who may have not been able to tune into your show today, there is another story that

is breaking a lot of us as Milwaukeeans and Wisconsin nights hearts.

And just again, all of this is calling us to just reflect deeply about the value of life

and the fragility of youth and the responsibilities that we share as a society.

It's just here in Milwaukee, a 10-year-old boy, Zayshan Oaton, and please pardon me if

I did not pronounce Zayshan's name correctly.

And this young 10-year-old boy who was described by his family as a social butterfly, a child

who lit up every room that he walked into and who had dream big dreams and dreamt of

music and performance and even seen himself on TV some day, who his loved ones had said

he was destined to be a star, and yet was extinguished far too soon after an accidental

shooting with a friend's unsecured firearm.

First of all, what 10-year-olds are carrying or have firearms?

Like, when they say a friend's unsecured firearm at 10?

No, I think the child was at another home or there was somebody that had a weapon in

the parent's home and it was loose and that's all that happened.

Okay, so let's do this, Dr. Ken, because we've seen these type of tragic headlines over

and over again.

And I know if I'm tired of reading them and hearing about it, I know truth nation you

are.

And because what we can do is desensitize and treat this as just another statistic.

This young man had a bright future and he's gone, there's no coming back.

And whether this tragedy was accidental or not, it again continues to raise the issue

of safe, gun, storage and access.

Kids should never be able to get their hands on a loaded weapon, especially not by accident.

We've had this conversation over and over and over and over and over again.

How do we as a community?

How do we as parents?

How do we as policymakers?

I'm serious y'all, because many of us that are listening and watching us live on YouTube,

we all have family members, loved ones that are the same age and look just like Zayshan.

What will it take to prevent another family?

From ever hearing these words, these updates, these stories and it's not even just in Milwaukee,

it's happening all over.

We've had a whole weekend of mass shootings and people are grieving, here's a thing, grief,

it's not going to ignite change.

So how do we take this grief and channel it into prevention, education and just supporting

our community?

We've got to quick point in the fingers at the mayor and the police department because

it has nothing to do with them.

It really doesn't.

This again is parents, policymakers, legislators, communities, what do we owe our children

in terms of safety, supervision and community infrastructure and at what point does this

in action become negligence?

Because that's what it is to me.

Well, if you take it a step further, you can call a child abuse.

Absolutely.

As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Ken, advocacy, it's not just for the distant future, it's

for right now.

Oh, yeah.

And again, whether it's safe storage, neighborhood conversations or making sure that the policymakers,

the legislators are creating and supporting policies that protect children because this

is again a time where we mourn and we also make sure that it doesn't happen again.

All I can say is only time will tell, but then again, we said that the last time.

B. Bruce, 1580 says, stabbing, yeah, that's a deep personal attack.

Oh, that was about Rob Reiner, yeah.

Yeah.

Let's see, because we were just talking about a lot of violence that has been taking place

over the weekend, including the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife.

So the parents were allegedly murdered by their son through a stabbing.

B. Bruce also says, it's always the ones with a light on them get worst.

Results if they were black, this is so sick, it breaks my heart a bit.

The solely on the managing parents and relatives, one of them should have been watching this

child's interactions and actions period.

I can call out the parents of all the kids in the city, be a billboards to pay attention

to their kids 24, seven, no closed doors to kids rooms.

Y'all be letting y'all kids have closed doors?

I didn't let my kids close their doors when they were young living with me.

You get to close your door when you pay rent or you pay mortgage.

So what's this?

You can close your door when you're changing clothes.

You can leave it cracked when you sleep, but I have a right to come in any time because

I pay the mortgage.

Absolutely.

I'll be nice on my first because I had doors, I'll not and do the $1,000, $2,000, $1,000.

Bottom line is something interceded taking care of children, something either children

are either not being it, it seems to me, just my opinion.

Are either not being taken care of or they're growing up too fast?

Let me ask you a question, Dr. Ken.

Would it be at all fair?

And I'm just asking the question, I'm not insinuating or implying anything, but I do think it's

a valid question because this was the same type of questions that were presented during

the world famous Menendez brothers, murder trial where they were found guilty and are

currently serving, I think up to a 35 year sentence for murdering their parents.

Should the parents, because there were a lot of people that were saying the Menendez brothers

should be released, they were abused by their parents both sexually and physically

they should be held accountable as well for their children's outrage and ultimately murdering,

being found guilty of murdering their parents.

How do you feel about that, Dr. Ken?

Help as a parent and growing up with parents?

Well, I think it depends on how much money you have and how important you are.

And we give an example.

When the Menendez brothers committed their crime, they were sentenced.

They went back into court and under the California youthful offender statute, it automatically

made so that if you commit a crime under the age of 26, I don't know if that's youthful

or not, 25 years old, I'm just saying.

If you are under the age of 26, 25 and under, it will immediately make you eligible for

parole once you serve half their term.

Unless you have the money or the backing or the power to go back in court and get this

done, I'm sure there are a lot of people that would be stuck in jail because they don't

have the money.

So again, these cases that come to light are always cases where the parents are affluent

that happens, not because the killing happened, but because, oh my God, they came from a

two-parent household.

It was loving.

It was the anomaly of what looked like a perfect family and something happened.

And they can't fathom.

Now the problem is, the Menendez brothers are Hispanic and unfortunately, they're looked

upon as, in some cases, being the new black, where they're treated like adults too.

Oh, they commit a crime.

Well, they know what they were doing because they're smart.

They're ingenious.

They're, and they got life.

Even when they argue.

You're the first person.

Say what?

You're the first person that I've ever heard bring up their race.

And I must say that it hasn't been brought up, but you're the first person.

And I've spoken with a lot of people about this case because, for my lens, they portrayed

themselves, and based on their appearance, because their appearance, they had close proximity

to whiteness.

They did not, how do I say that this is the truth I'm filtered?

But their last name weren't Menendez.

They showed in that life, they weren't white.

But they exhibited and had the money that made them act that way.

Does that make sense?

So they don't...

No, absolutely.

Right.

And so that's where I was going.

They're Menendez, and they're this, but the fact that would you bother even pulling

up the fact, hey, you know, these guys may be eligible for the California youthful offender

statute.

You're right.

Oh, I forgot to tell them.

I was a lawyer.

I forgot.

Like, there's so many things in the way.

The recitencing was one of three possible paths to freedom sought by the brothers.

The other two included clemency by Gavin Newsom, who ordered the parole board to assess whether

the brothers would pose a threat or a new trial.

I'm like, what?

But again, when you look at them, you know, like, how can I say this?

You might be named Menendez, but when I look at you, you don't look like Menendez.

That's what I'm saying.

And furthermore, as far as I'm concerned, after you murder your parents, and you're out

here taking your life insurance inheritance, and buying Ferraris, and jeeps, and all

kind of other luxury items, very expensive luxury items, and I mean, house parties.

Come on now.

We've been told by house parties all day.

I'm sorry.

And y'all didn't find me, but, you know, I say that to say that.

Yeah, but we were talking about Bill Cosby's parties and our Kelly's parties and Diddy's

parties.

Yeah.

Bill Cosby had parties?

Yeah, that's what got him in trouble.

Not Bill Cosby had parties.

Well, not those kind of parties.

We had parties where you invited people, and you, we got drinks and quailudes, y'all

can come hang out.

Hello, buddy.

Bill Cosby.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah.

Well, I'll just say this, because I know we've been talking about all these these tragic

murders of children murdering their parents.

This is just me.

And again, I'm speaking from a lens where I've been mad at my mom and dad.

And I know my kids have been mad at me, and we've had some very heated conversations.

I just can't, I can't make it make sense to the point where, because the Menendez brothers

had automatic rifles.

They did not, they came to kill.

Rob Reiner and his wife's son stabbed both of them to death.

The rage, the premeditation that it takes to execute that type of murder, I don't know

how you can, if you can say that they're crazy or not, or they have mental health issues

or they were defending themselves, I don't know, but again, I'm speaking from a lens of,

I can't relate, but I know one thing, I hope that the justice system continues to send

the message that you can't, you can't be out here killing your parents.

That's nice of you, isn't that nice?

Don't go kill your parents.

I think that's the mantra for 2026.

Well, no, that's the mantra for today through next year, because you might say, wait a minute,

I can do it now, because it's only still 2025.

No, it's, there's something that he had to have been high or he had to have been like, what?

Because rumor has it, before we go to break, he had a drug problem, he had a major drug problem,

and that that's what they were arguing about at Colonial Brian's house.

out of Cudahay, Wisconsin, which is far as I'm concerned, both shocking and heartbreaking.

And Dr. Ken, when we come back, we're going to get into this, nothing is off limits, and

we're going to dig beneath the headlines to talk about this top story out of Cudahay,

Wisconsin, where a staff member at Cudahay High School has been charged with two counts

of second degree sexual assault of a child.

Why are you laughing, Dr. Ken?

Because I know what you're about to talk about.

And I'm reading, you know, because you talked about cut-a-ha and I'm reading the talking text line.

And it's hard to argue with B brews because he said cut-a-ha should now be known as Buck Tussle, the hillbilly town from Beverly Hillbilly,

but it's all great.

There's an ongoing, see, I didn't know whether it was a black community thing or a Milwaukee community thing,

because I moved here from out of town as did you.

So I don't know the nuances of, of, do y'all call it that?

Because of, so when you talk about, there's a difference between West Alice and Stalas.

Oh, yeah, I'm folk from Stalas and I never knew what that meant.

And they were like, yeah, you know, like Oak Creek, kind of hay, St. Francis, South Milwaukee.

And I never, I was like, that's kind of mean to talk about people like that, to kind of, you know, like what?

But the stereotypes, just like they have for the North Side of Milwaukee and the near South Side with Hispanic.

The stereotype of people that live there, like literally jumped out as I started to meet people and go,

oh, or, or visit and went, oh, so for him to say that, yes and no, I agree, but disagree.

So cut-a-ha high school staff member charged with sexual assault of a student.

I tried to, I tried to read the story, but, you know, I'm, I'm learning, you know, if I start getting angry, I need, I need to stop reading it.

Yes, you've got to preserve your positive energy.

But yet to your point, this is what, these are the facts that Dr. Ken and I know.

A 28 year old staff member was charged with not one, but two counts of second degree sexual assault of a child.

The victim was a 15 year old student. The incidents occurred in 2023, opt school grounds.

The school district of Cut-a-ha has placed him on leave immediately after the report.

Now, it's not just a Wisconsin thing, because nearby states are seeing similar allegations.

There's a Connecticut teacher that allegedly groomed an assault of a student over multiple years.

So these aren't isolated bloops for lack of better words, but part of a broader, and I'm going to use this word intentionally, pattern of boundary violations in professional context.

Why are so many professionals failing? We've over the weekend, and I'm going to save my op-ed for the second hour with Dr. Ken.

Because he and I've already had a brief off the air conversation, and we, what's the word?

If I'm mentally disagree with one another, what's the word?

We agree to disagree.

Yes.

So what I'm seeing is professionals that have what they consider power, access, and trust.

So what do I mean by that?

Hey, Lucretia.

Lucretia on our YouTube message board says, hello, Dr. Ken.

Hey, Denise. Hey, sis. Hey, honey.

See, I don't, I don't get all the big ones. I just get a hey.

Oh, here you go.

Anyway, so here's my position, Truth Nation.

And our truth talk and sex line is 833-212-1017.

You got a group of people that have been given a certain level of power, a certain level of access.

And a lot of these positions, whether you're an educator, whether you're a head coach,

it automatically comes as a trustworthy position.

So you've got folks in these roles that are taking advantage of that trust, of that access, of that power.

And they also have unique access to vulnerable populations.

When you look at most of these headlines that we've seen over the recent weekend,

a recent month, the victim is usually someone who's in a vulnerable position,

or a vulnerable population, whether that's an assistant, secretary, student.

And so what we then have now is institutional betrayal.

What is institutional betrayal? I'm so glad you asked.

That's when institutions fail to identify, prevent, or respond to misconduct,

and then it deepens the trauma and eros the trust.

Denise, what are you saying that institutions had already known about this? I'm not saying that.

But what I am saying is that for certain positions of power,

until it gets to the point where it really hits the fan.

What was the head coach of, what was it? The University of Pennsylvania?

Yep, yeah, I think so.

The football balls.

That was touching the boys.

And how long did that allegedly take place?

I think it was like over three decades.

You see what I'm saying, Truth Nation, when you are in a position of power,

and you take advantage and abuse all those things that come with that.

Oftentimes, it's way long after the first assault to then it becomes a headline.

What are schools, whether it's elementary, middle, high school,

institutions of higher learning like colleges,

doing to prevent inappropriate relationships before they start?

Where are the resources to train how to respond effectively?

And what policies are in place to ensure that early disclosures don't get ignored?

Because all of these incidents could have been prevented.

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

So then what do you do?

College is a little different because you're dealing with adults.

You're dealing with whether or not it's undergraduate versus graduate student.

Do you have a position of power over them?

If you're an advisor or something or this and you have direct contact,

it's automatic.

If you did that, you should just get fired.

Even if you went on a date, you're fired.

Like done.

There should be some built-in mechanisms.

But part of the issue in K-12 is that I've asked.

Yes, so how many times do you get a background check?

And they say, oh, you get it when you're hired.

I'm like, I work there 30 years.

You're telling me you haven't checked me in 30.

So unless I do something that draws attention to myself,

you have no idea.

You can get arrested for OWI.

You can get arrested for battery domestic violence.

Like what?

That's weird to me.

I would literally, and I know I keep saying this,

I would literally pay an extra $50 to $100 in my taxes.

If every single person in the school district,

you know we can hate you, type it.

And everybody, that every person in the school,

that every person in the school district,

scratching the ones and shoes to give you a little,

you know, I just pour.

Everybody in the school district gets a background check,

at least every other year.

But nothing?

Okay, so here's what we're going to do.

Because our amazing producer,

Y'all know him is that, or DJ Brother Z,

I call him King's Zek Alex.

And we come back, because here's the thing.

I want us as parents to all of our valued listeners right now.

I want us as parents, aunties, uncles, big brother sisters,

just caring adults to understand the warning signs

of what is known as grooming behaviors.

Because a lot of these predators and these pervers,

they have what we call grooming behaviors.

So we need to understand what those behaviors look and feel like.

And then from a call to action standpoint, we come back.

I'm going to give you some of what I advise.

Because my kids are adults now.

But when they were in school,

as a single mom,

I would ask these certain questions

to the school districts that were my kids attended.

So we come back.

I'm going to get into that.

I'm sure that Dr. Ken will have a reaction,

whether it's agreement or from his perspective things.

like I think my kids were only two black kids at the school they attended.

You know, alongside this whole kind of,

hey, high school and other things we've been talking about over the past few weeks,

there was a story I had uncovered from October of this year in the Cap Times in Madison

that talked about how people had resigned from jobs,

and people had behavior that constituted grooming,

and sex with students,

and sexual comments.

I think it's a good idea.

It's an issue that instituted grooming,

and sex with students,

and sexual comments to students,

and appropriate behavior on social media at over two hundred of these from 2018 to 2023,

and basically the Wisconsin Department of Public Construction investigates

and documents educator misconduct,

well then what did they do?

Were they fired? Did they leave and get jobs in different places?

Like what happened?

They said at that rate, estimates show one in ten students experienced sexual misconduct

from educators during the period 12,

as according to a federal report.

In Wisconsin, that rate would amount to more than 93,000 students in the state of Wisconsin,

experiencing sexual misconduct.

It includes physical, verbal, electronic,

all those things that don't belong in schools that have happened here.

It's just...

Can I just say this, Dr. Ken?

This is what people tend to disregard.

Trauma never goes away.

That's right.

It never goes away.

But you are always in the process if you acknowledge,

that's why they call it post-traumatic stress disorder.

And what it does, especially when it occurs at a young age,

there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of what are now adults,

who are now adults, that experience this type of abuse and trauma

and that are walking around not trusting anybody.

And then that's what results are not excusing,

but that's often what times is the root cause of mass shootings and other violent acts.

And we have to...

When we come back, like I said, the second hour,

I'm going to get into what schools for my lens should be doing

to prevent these inappropriate relationships before they even start.

And I also want truth nation, each of us to understand what grooming,

because all these powerful professionals, they execute what's called grooming.
