Um, now I want to go into something, uh, to kind of like kick things off because, uh, in besides, you know, being in radio, uh, I'm a DJ, of course, uh, producer DJ brother Z.
So this there's a thing that is creating a whole lot of hoopla on social media About a Brady Street club that's choosing to do what they want to do with their establishment So it says hot topic And this is all Milwaukee reports Milwaukee bar on Brady Street bans all hip-hop artists from getting played
And included and it gave in bold writing.
No Milwaukee artists.
None.
No Milwaukee hip hop artists.
So of course, you know, people are having differences of opinion on how they feel about that.
And so this post was put up and I guess this may be someone who is in charge of the DJs or whatever the case may be.
But it said it's from, such and such, from the garage.
They blanked out his name, so I won't say it.
But these were some songs that he said that the DJs could not play.
They were on a do not playlist, you know?
So they were on a do not playlist.
And those songs, well, some of those artists, some.
And I know there's more, but these are some of the artists
that are clearly posted, I guess, inside of the DJ booth.
No Kodak Black, no 42 Doug, no Chief Keith, no King Vaughn, no NBA Young Boy, no Little Dirk, no G Herbal, ESTG Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, City Girls, Tyga, Glorilla, Lotto, Little Baby, Gunna, Playboy Cardi, Migos, Offset, Quavo, Two Chains, Gucci Mane.
Rick Ross, Lil Uzi Furt, Lil Wayne, Money Bag Yo, Key Glock.
Young, what a young foolish is that?
And then they also had Up Under That Where It's Like, and no Milwaukee rap artist, none.
And it said the note that came with this or the message as it was sent out, say hi everyone, effective immediately.
We can no longer play these artists.
That includes remixes.
I will also have this posted at the booth as well.
This is coming from ownership.
Failure to comply will result in a loss of gigs.

So there's been a whole little, you know, windstorm sandstorm because of this and people are
commenting on social media, like saying, you know, how they're feeling about this, like this is crazy.
Um, they don't want no customer.
They don't want no business.
It's that and the other.
And my thing, you know, my thing on that is like, just for real, if you want to think about it in its full context, right?
If you don't want to go to the club no more because they said they doing that, then just don't go.
Some people, in my opinion, are making a bigger deal out of this than they should be, in my opinion.
And what I mean by that is just don't support it.
If you feel like, oh, I got to hear those artists because a great DJ, not just a good DJ, will not be one dimensional.
They will not be one dimensional.
So you go to a jazz spot, you don't get to play.
hip hop in the jazz spot, you go to a southern soul, blues and southern soul, you got to play blues and southern soul.
So I'm saying that if I don't want to hear blues and southern soul, I'm not going to that spot.
If they say we're going to start playing all techno, if I'm not into techno, then guess what?
I'm just not going to that spot no more.
to sit and try to be like, oh, y'all just don't want black people.
Y'all don't want this.
Listen, if some things have been attributed to behavior patterns, I think you gotta pay attention to it.
So maybe it doesn't apply to you like that.
And I'm happy to hear that.
I'm happy to hear that.
But for some people, it does apply.
And some people that are acting brand new to that situation, yeah.
Just keep it real with yourself keep it real with yourself There's some people that create where you like I got to say my business I Love you know what I'm doing.
I love being able to provide entertainment, but sometimes Sometimes and if you see other things some people are just looking at in their opinion the writing on the wall Like maybe it hasn't been any issues there
And maybe they want to keep it that way.

Some of us won't even acknowledge that though music is entertainment because I'm one of the first ones to fight for music, right?
Is some situations to where is this some uneducated people that are listening to this music and they're trying to be.
And you you know it, you can try to argue against it if you want.
I want to hear your opinion.
You know the life that King Von lived.
You know the life that a lot of a lot of the rappers on that list were some drill rappers.
It just is what it is.
There's some drill rappers.
And so because of that, again, if I'm trying to protect my investment, if I'm trying to protect my investment,
Yeah, I'm probably gonna say, you know what, as much as I enjoy the money, you gotta make a decision.
So for those who don't like it, just don't go no more.
That'll show them either they gonna turn around and say, you know what, we gonna put all that black in the rotation.
We sorry, we apologize.
We are making no more money.

Let them have to choose to make that decision if that's what they want to do.
So I'm just saying, like just real talk, you should be able to have and run your business the way that you want to run your business.
And if that means that you feel like having some of those artists played in your establishment or that particular, I didn't hear him saying that they didn't want to play a young job.
You know what I'm saying?

And again, for those artists that know that they make a lot of music that may be somewhat in the content-wise detrimental.
You know how many people have been arrested and went to prison because of their lyrics in their song?
Their lyrics!
They went to jail and prison because of their lyrics.
There are artists right here in Milwaukee who have been sentenced to prison because of their lyrics.
They described the homicide with information that wasn't shared with the public.
Oh, we didn't share that.
How do you know that?
You're talking about where you keeping your dope.
You don't tell on you.
Don't tell on you.
So, you know, I want to find out, you know, how people are feeling about this because, again, it is a lot of people that are upset and given their thoughts and opinions.
But if I'm a DJ, Brother Z is a DJ as well, as I stated earlier.
If we go to a wedding reception and they tell us, look, we don't want none of this, guess what?
DJ Brother Z, if you go on and DJ in a wedding.
And they say, we don't want any of this and any of this and any of that.
Yeah.
What are you going to do?
Are you going to play everything they said don't play?
It depends.
I'm not a fan of being told what I can and can't play.
If I am told that I can't play.
a certain artist or a certain genre, I will turn that gig down.

But then again, you have to think about the current mute, like what people listen to that actually go to garage.
And the music that's popular too as well.
but it's also very telling because it's like if they wanted to say no rap.
then just say that.
But this list is all black artists.
And that's where I think people are.

But you know the crazy thing about that though brother C is this is the the same people that complain on social media that these are some of the drill rappers that have us in the situations that we're in.
They're not taking the music as just entertainment.
I love to listen to music because it's entertainment and I'm able to discern the two but there are people that are
literally doing videos with glocks and switches and and beams and they and they like they all entranced it.
They're all entranced so more than just taking it for the entertainment value.
We have seen the crime in our city definitely take a hit.
from some of these people who are talking about, yeah, I gotta switch.
And some of the people even here that are making music like that, doesn't mess it up for some of the other artists, absolutely.
So like I say, it's like when we talk about other elements that are going on in our community, which is what I have to call them, because it's other people that are, they
flipping the script from what it was.
So instead of being able to just go out and have a good time, that's it.

It is, it's, it's a different vibe now.
It is a different vibe and people that don't want to acknowledge that.

So we as DJs know that you can either create or get a DJ edit or remix of a song where it's either a complete remake, a complete flip, where it's the vocals of one song and the instrumental in beat of another song.

If you were going to DJ there, they have a list of hip hop artists that you cannot play, which they have posted in the DJ booth as well there.
So no excuses.

You could have some DJs that would rebel, like DJ Brother C, that would say, that wasn't on the list.
That wasn't on the list.
And then the next sign they'll see it just says no rap of any kind, period.
But yeah, my thing is, if you don't like the policy of someplace, you have the right to not go.
And that'll show them they'll either say, OK, this is what we wanted, or they can be like, we didn't know it was going.

But yeah, it's their establishment.
It's like people have rules in a vehicle.
You can't do this in my vehicle.

Another situation that I kind of touched on
This morning, you know where some people don't want us to deal with us And I'm talking about us as a people Black people whatever you choose to call yourself.
We got different names that we adapt to I'm not that I'm this whichever one you're comfortable with that's who I'm talking to all right, whatever makes you comfortable then just take when I say black people and Change it to what you want.
We are people of color
You know, be whatever it is.

Well, that's what they do this at the other than we get mad and we get, we get mad instead of saying we need to make sure that we change our community, that we don't get used to this.
Some people are trying to take these things and turn it into normal and it is not normal.
It's not normal and I believe we should be able to call it out because it's so many of us in my opinion that fight The fight against all of the stereotypes the negative things that are put out there we fight against it, but then we got everything that they are saying All over social media it ain't got to just be on Facebook and then people say well we shouldn't talk about it though
Uh in in front of people that might be listening that don't look like us Again, who owns Facebook and Instagram?
Where everybody post everything to Who owns tix up?
Who owns a lot of these other social media platforms that you're not even aware of and even if it's a couple of black
Social media platforms that are out there.

So kind of going into kind of proven my point, but the thing is They are public there are public platforms that will show you all this and you post yourself happily so Us saying it or myself saying it

They're not gonna come to a meeting if we say hey y'all we gonna have a community meeting and it's gonna be just us Somebody gonna go live in the damn meeting So I'm trying to figure out what it is that we're afraid of Being able to reach our people in the masses that we need to reach our people.
I Don't see some of the ones that are doing that so maybe some
people that I would refer to as PWKs, people with kids because they're not parenting, because there's a lot of things we wouldn't even have to worry about.
A lot of things wouldn't even be an issue if people were still parenting their children, parenting their foster children, being a responsible adult when you see other family members or children in the community or teens in the community.
I mean, I know.
That's not cool.
You're going to end up dead or you're going to end up locked up.
Baby, don't do that.

That's what they want you to do.
And instead of some of those people adhering to what they're saying, they want to cuss them out.

But if they're talking to you and you talking about what you would do to them and man, you don't know nothing this that any other Nobody want to just keep hearing that You know how many young people between the ages of 10 to 35 Have been murdered or shot in the city of Milwaukee Just in the last couple of months just in the last couple of months

They're looking for who ended up shooting recklessly to where we had a one-year-old injured in a shootout on Capitol and Sherman Boulevard here in Milwaukee at 10 a.m.
in the morning.
But don't talk about it, though, because they gonna think, they call us animals.

But as long as we doing it, we ain't protesting and going to the house of the people that we know are causing the drama in our community, but you'll tell everybody else to come on the block.

You tell all that information, but we ain't gonna go march on that house.
We ain't gonna go march on them.
We not gonna do it.
We're not going to do it.
We're going to know all of the houses who down there and they don't never be picking up.
We ain't going to do nothing about it though.
But sit here and talk loud and do not a damn thing.
And I have problems with that.
I'm not going to just allow if you are a trouble or a nuisance house or business in my community.

Take out all your primary expenses.
You got to pay talking about your ranch and all that stuff, you know, that stuff, take that out.
Now, figure out how much you spend, how much of your discretionary income goes somewhere else.
That's going to tell you who you are.
If you're spending all of your discretionary income on hooker and alcohol and your kids can't read, that's going to tell you what's really important to you.
That's going to tell you you're not a good parent.
