All right. No, the system computer system is completely hard break. All right, you can finish up your thoughts. Okay, so back to the getting ahead program. It's run by

a social worker we employ by the name of Emily Miller who's just fantastic. We've had about six of these. We've had

roughly 50 or 50 or more people have gone through the process. Again, 20 weeks they learn

they they they're called investigators and they look at what poverty is all about they understand how poverty impacts them.

They learn about theory of change. They learn learn about the definition of poverty with which is a lack of resources and that can be an

individual an institution or a community can all have is all their

their poverty can be, you know, less resources. So the idea is to self-assess see where your strengths are. What resources you have that are strong help build

the weak resources and develop a future plan. Very successful. A lot of lives changed and it's a it's been a very good program. We've got

a lot of requests for people to participate. We also now do something presentation within the community called bridges out of poverty.

We had our first presentation a week or so ago was December 13th, I believe at NTC. There were about 40 people there from local organizations and spent about two and a

half hours learning about what poverty is like learning kind of a common language for poverty and the idea is for all the helping agencies, the government, the local government and people in general to get a better understanding of poverty and kind of learn the language of poverty.

It's very different to, you know, for the say the middle class to understand what it's like to live in poverty just like it's difficult for the middle class to understand how the wealth class.

So it's all done through the lens of economic economics if somebody wants to be involved. What's the best way to go about it?

So any final thought. Yeah, hey, just thanks a lot for coming in. You know, I know you had a rough night last night, right? You were at the Notre Dame game. Yes, I know. What was it like actually being at the first ever campus playoff? Can that little history right there, a lot of fun, very loud, louder than normal, cold, quite cold. It was in the 20s. And it was a well, you know, two good teams playing each other in the right team one. Yeah, Notre Dame ended up

winning, although they kind of they didn't finish the way they want to finish well. They got a very good defense. We'll see very good. And I know that Syracuse is having a real good year this year, Marty. So given that being your alma mater, right? You were at Syracuse tire. I was born and raised in Syracuse. I'm a Tony 90. There's nothing wrong with that. An avid avid fan. Very, very good. Well, gentlemen, thank you very much. It was a lot of fun. And again, terrific work.

But before we actually get to the games and when you get the knock, you talk about knocking MS all the party get the knock solely all the park here on the 10 game challenge.

But you can talk about the charity talk about Charlie's anything that you like to start off with here this morning.

I'd like to talk about Charlie's bar first. My sister started the business. It's a name is the name sake of my dad who used to hang out there a time or two back in the day.

So Karen decided to take the venture into the bar business restaurant business offer chicken dinners meals, great pizzas.

She's into catering food for for many many events. So she's very much a foodie and has a great menu.

She's also donated to our charity, the knock MS out of the park, which is again a nonprofit where we're trying to help people that have MS.

So again, we have an event in summer that's called knock MS out of the park. It's a softball tournament. It's held in June during Father's Day weekend.

And we're trying to raise continued funds to help people with MS and try to make a difference in their lives. So it's a real important cause for me and my family.

Fantastic, really. I mean, you said it earlier. We heard about so much good work and especially this time of the year to hear about the good work that you and the organization are doing. That's fantastic.

Well, after all that heartwarming stuff, we're going to now go head to head. We're going to go into the trenches, going to get into the meat houses.

As Sully likes to say and see you can come out ahead here in the 10 game challenge and a lot of great football to talk about. And in fact, coming up in just 45 minutes or so playoff game between SMU and Penn State.

First round playoff game. Larry will let you go first.

All right. So we are talking about Ohio State and Tennessee. I'm sorry that that's a little different. You'd have to go down to the sorry Penn State and SMU games.

All right. Well, I am going to take Penn State over SMU. I think the SMU team is not going to have the point expressed today and they might need to calibrate it.

And I'm back from the death penalty yet. James and who was that dicker sick? Yes. Ron Meyer, the coach.

Was it Ron Meyer? It was Ron Meyer. Very good. So Sully, what do you think? You know, as much as I hate to agree with Larry in this one instance, I'm going to have to go with that.

I think the big 10. There's what what I'm interested in is based on how Indiana did last night.

How good really is the big 10 and their bowl system is challenging and it starts SMU as quarterback Kevin Jenkins, who's really a very, very good player.

But that's and I think Penn State. I'm with you. I think Penn State finds a way. I think the weather to maybe a factor today for SMU coming into Penn State.

I think that's a very good point indeed. And they got a white out today. As long as it's not a snow whiteout. Yeah, there you have it.

Another first wrong game coming up is Clemson and Texas. Clemson 10 and three from the ACC Texas from the SEC, of course, 11 and two. And Sully, you're up first.

Yeah. You know, I'm going to go with the upset. I'm going to go with Clemson. I know the site. Our selling college football page game simulator likes Clemson.

And it thinks that Clemson is going to help perform them turnovers, fewer penalties and better on third down conversions.

So I'm going with Clemson here in the upset.

Well, in the words of Matthew McConaughey, all right, all right, all right. I'm taking Texas to win this game today.

I think that, you know, yours is struggle at times. But I think they've got a second quarterback that could come in if they hit a rough batch.

Yeah, they do have quite a backup quarterback, his name, Manning.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's got a dad named painting. I mean, excuse me is right.

Next up, another playoff game, big day of playoff, Tennessee and Ohio State. And the folks in Columbus rate of burn down the city.

If they don't win this one, I think, but Tennessee in the horseshoe tonight at seven o'clock, Larry, what do you like?

Well, as much as I hate to say this, I'm going with Ohio State. I think it's good to win percentage as Ryan Day has as a coach.

I think there's some pressure to win this game and do well in the playoff here.

So I'm going to take Ohio State rallying around behind their coach.

You know, and I don't think there's any doubt Larry that Ohio State has the better roster.

They recruit better than Tennessee without question.

However, they're missing three of their top six offensive linemen and have struggled to run the ball.

Even though their bags are great.

So I'm going to say that the volunteers go into the shoe and shot Ohio State and get this done.

I just don't trust Ohio State.

Next, we go to a regular bowl action.

We got coastal Carolina taking on Texas San Antonio, the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Both teams are six and six. All right, Sully. Tell us what we don't know about this game.

Texas San Antonio was actually picked to win the American, but they started out.

They were very poorly. They were like one in four and you kind of forgot about them.

Then about five or six games in, they started playing like they could win it.

I liked them over coastal Carolina.

UTSA plays in a better league.

You know, the American is better than the sun belt.

So I'm going to go with Texas San Antonio.

My initial thoughts was to take coastal Carolina, but coastal Carolina has lost two of their quarterbacks of transfer portal,

which is effect, I think an effect in today.

So I'm taking Texas San Antonio as well.

I think that would definitely would affect when you lose all the quarterbacks.

Our fifth game, big 12 versus the big 10.

They got Kansas State and the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers at the rate bowl at Chase Field at Phoenix.

And this is what I'm going to start with Larry.

Today I'm going to take Kansas State in a win. Rutgers, Chiano has a good record in bowl games,

but I think sometimes they're kind of paper tigers when it comes to their success, which has been kind of erratic.

And Kansas State was right in the thick of things for most of the year in the big 12 to get that shot at perhaps the championship game.

So I'm with you there. I'm taking Kansas State as well.

And Chiano's great coach and it had a better year than they've had in five, six years.

But I think Kansas State's a little too big of a bite of the apple.

Again, we're joined by Larry Bookburger representing the Charlie's Bar on County Road and in Marathon City.

And also a knock MS out of the park.

And before we continue with the final five games of our challenge here, Larry, anything you'd like to add about either Charlie's or the charity.

Well, just a quick reminder that on New Year's Eve, Charlie's Bar will be hosting a New Year's Eve party with Jerry Schmidt and the Schmidt kickers playing some music.

Terrific. Our next game, you talk about two ends of the spectrum of college football.

One of the big names, you know, in terms of putting all the resources possible into college football.

And then you have a group that is basically, you know, the country before football.

You got Navy and Oklahoma in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth.

Oklahoma struggled six and six Navy out of terrific season, nine and three and dog on it.

We talked all about that game last week and they went out and they they whoop the army, which was, you know, eleven and one army at the time or twelve.

I can't even remember what they were at the time, but what a big win for for Navy last week.

And Sally, what do you think?

Well, I'm going to look at Federables, the coach now in Oklahoma, who was the decordinator at Clemson for many years.

And I think he's going to be able to put together a defensive scheme that's going to slow Navy's triple option down.

And Larry's, you know, they just have better athletes, Oklahoma than Navy.

So I'm taking Oklahoma in this game.

Well, again, as you said earlier, I hate to agree with you, Sally, but I'm going to agree with you.

I'm going to take Oklahoma in this game too.

I think that Oklahoma is going to sink the battleship today.

Very good. Up next, again, a battle of teams that not only play well in the football field, but also do very well in the classroom.

It's Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl, six and six bandy, seven and five Georgia Tech.

Larry, you'll start first.

All right. I'm going to take Georgia Tech.

I just had a chance to watch him recently, and I really like the physical style of play they play.

Reminding me kind of an old Wisconsin team with their physical, you know, attitude.

And that's just kind of a gut feel that Georgia Tech is going to win a grinder.

Yep. And I like their quarterback, Larry, Georgia Tech's quarterback.

He did not play when Notre Dame played them.

Notre Dame beat him 31 to 13, had Hayes played.

I think Notre Dame would have still found a way, but it'd been much closer.

So I'm going to go with Georgia Tech, even though Clark Lea is a Notre Dame guy as well.

So we've got to give him his two.

But no, I'm with you, Georgia Tech eight over times with Georgia.

They're just going to overwhelm Vandy.

That's what I think too.

Next game is the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Of course, in Memphis, a former Southwest Conference matchup between Arkansas and Texas Tech.

Have to go back a long way, making a Southwest Conference matchup.

But I remember back in the old days, Arkansas, six and six, Texas Tech, eight and four, solely.

You know, I like both these coaches.

Sam Pittman, I think, is kind of an earthy guy.

You know, he's about a hog, you know, the old razor backs.

Yeah, so is Joey McGuire.

Joey McGuire is a high school Texas coach who's come up through the ranks.

And he was there just the other day yelling about the SEC in Big Ten.

They get all these props because of their arm patches.

We're going to do it on the line of scrimmage, man.

Well, I think Joey McGuire in Texas Tech just has a little more to work with on that side.

And so I'm going to take tech over Arkansas in this game.

Well, I'm going to have to disagree with you.

I'm going to take Arkansas.

And I think it's going to be a grinder.

I think it's going to be a high scoring game.

But I'm going to take Arkansas and win.

And we're going to find out about those arm patches.

Because Arkansas is going to be pointing to him.

And it does.

I mean, you always put these interesting tidbits, 29 to 8 back in the SWC days.

Arkansas was a big back in those days.

And Texas Tech was always towards the bottom.

I still remember that 1969 Arkansas Texas game.

Cotton Spire was their whiteout at Texas as an eclat of pass.

And they beat him like 14 to 13.

If you remember Frank Broyles, I don't know if you guys remember.

Oh, yeah, I do.

I used to coach at Arkansas.

And I was remembering him talking to the guys in the locker room after the game.

And he was just saying, you don't leave anything out there.

So you don't got to look around.

You guys did everything.

It was moving.

Very, very awesome.

Our ninth game is Washington State now in a little chaos after their coach left this week.

Taking on Syracuse who had a terrific season this year.

Well, it's always one of the most exciting games.

I think one of the places people like to go to.

San Diego in the holiday bowl of Larry.

What do you think?

Washington State Syracuse.

I'm going to take Washington State again, losing a coach at any time isn't good unless they deserve to be fired.

But I'm going to take Washington State to win here today.

I think the the team's going to rally and get a win.

And I'm going to go back historically to Jimmy Brown and Larry Zonkin, Floyd Louis.

And who was the Ernie Davis?

Remember Ernie was a great player for them.

And tragically, I got leukemia.

But anyway, yeah, I like what Syracuse has done.

And Washington State's played more or less a Mountain West schedule.

Syracuse has played in the ACC.

So I like their schedule as well.

I think Syracuse gets this done.

And finally, Las Vegas Bowl.

USC in Texas A&M.

It's kind of interesting because USC started their year off in Las Vegas against LSU.

And they're going to finish their season off in Las Vegas against Texas A&M.

And Sully, what do you think?

I'll tell you, I saw them there against Notre Dame.

Those white outs are something else.

And their quarterback now is a little more mobile than Miller Moss.

So he was able to move around, extended place, and those were severs.

I don't think that Texas A&M will necessarily play that much man.

But I like SC's offense.

I think that they're going to be able to score on A&M.

And find enough defense to get this done.

I'm going to have to disagree again, Sully.

I'm taking A&M.

I think they're on an upward trend since they lost Jim Bull Fisher.

He's doing a nice job.

We have to have the...

When Sully says he's a Notre Dame guy, another drink.

We'll be on the floor by the end of the two hours.

I'll tell you that much.

I think that they're going to be a little more physical.

I think USC is still a little soft when it comes to...

They've got a lot of skill players, but I think that Texas A&M is going to out-fysical a little bit.

And so off in the bowl games are who does want it more?

Yeah, and I got to tell you, I am definitely watching this game.

I think this is one of the better, if not arguably the best game

outside of the playoffs.

And Larry, any final thoughts before we wrap it up?

No, again, I just would like to recommend...

So, going through a lot there last few segments.

Boy, you have some really terrific guests involved,

really terrific to talk to folks

that are supporting the site

and also the good things they're doing.

We've had some really high quality people coming in

these last few weeks,

and I got to tell you, Chad,

very uplifting,

when you hear about what goes on in our community,

and you hear from the people

who work with people who support

the less fortunate in our community,

and you hear the abundance of it.

So, really a very uplifting,

and those guys are just what they do

is really hard to quantify.

All right, you've been kind of teasing this

about some of the tough matchups

the Big Ten has in bowl season.

Let's talk about these matchups themselves.

And again, a lot of Big Ten conference teams involved

in the bowl is not the Wisconsin Badgers.

No, I mean, this is weird.

I mean, we haven't talked about the Badgers the entire show.

I know.

I know, it's just strange.

I was like, probably in all these years,

like you said, they've always been a bowl game,

so it's like, they've always gone to the very end.

This is like the first time,

we've got to talk about everybody but the Badgers,

because they are done.

Yeah, 22 years, I suppose we can't win too much.

No.

They've done it for that long.

But yeah, it's different.

Well, let's talk about the Big Ten bowl game,

starting off on the day after Christmas,

next Thursday, the rate bowl, that chase field,

touched on it during the course of the challenge,

but you got Rutgers.

And again, really good solid year for Rutgers,

seven and five.

It could have actually been even a little better.

That would get away until Illinois late in the season.

Yes.

And Kansas State, a team that was in the mix

for the Big 12 championship until late in the season,

but then kind of fell by the wayside.

What kind of matchup do you think that is for Rutgers?

Well, I think it's a pretty big bite of the apple.

Kansas State, the coach there is Chris Cleeman.

He was at North Dakota State, so I'm sure he's going to have

one eye on what are they?

Are they the Bison, the North Dakota?

I know.

I think South Dakota is the Kiosk.

Yeah, I think the state is the Bison.

Yeah, and then I think the Jack Rapids are in North Dakota.

It's self used to be the fighting suit,

but now they're something else.

I don't know.

Yeah, I can't keep track of that.

But back to the past game.

I think there's not really much difference in terms

of the quality of coaches.

These guys are both really good coaches.

Kansas State's a six and a half point favorite.

I like Kansas State in this game,

so I got the big 10 here at 0 and 2 after this game.

Then on Friday of next week, again,

it's one that you said that you're going to be keeping

a very tight eye on that.

You think this is one of the games that features

a lot of great athletes, a high level stuff

from two programs that have high level hopes

in the future now, after maybe,

especially for USC disappointment,

but maybe Texas A&M back on the right track.

But the USC and Texas A&M,

and interesting that A&M is the favorite

by three and a half points,

but it feels like you really liked

what you saw with SC against Notre Dame.

You know, Lincoln Riley is getting blamed

for everything, you know,

since canned beer got warm.

You know, I think the guys are good coach.

They're really fun to watch offensively.

I watched them against Notre Dame.

Oh, Golden's kind of an ideologue with his man stuff.

But Riley, I mean, he knows how to coach the O.

I just think this is a great matchup,

and I think SC finds a way.

So let me re-calculate here.

I got Penn State winning,

but I got Tennessee beating Ohio State.

So that's one and two,

and then Rutgers, one and three,

but now I got to big 10 back to two and three.

Another matchup coming up on December 28th.

That'll be a week from today.

The pinched right bowl played in Yankee Stadium,

and after a number of years,

Nebraska back in the bowls,

is charging the field for six and six.

Taking on Bill O'Brien and Boston College in Bill O'Brien,

I think had a solid first year at B.C.,

actually a pretty interesting matchup.

Yeah, really is Billy O'Brien,

and then Maddie Rule,

two guys that you really think a lot of us

as college football coaches.

Terrific records.

Yes, and beyond those guys are quality people.

I got to tell you,

I like Nebraska in this game.

I think the motivation for them to finally be there,

Yankee Stadium,

I don't know how any team from Boston likes playing there.

But anyway, I think I'm really thinking

that Maddie Rule and Nebraska

not only get to a bowl,

but since 2016 absence,

they're going to come out with an edge.

Yep, and again,

I think I said this earlier,

so many of these games that a lot of it has to do with,

who wants it?

I mean, and I'm not really a big fan.

I'm not somebody else going to say,

well, they wanted it more most of the time.

But I think with bowl games,

there is that sometimes there are players

that are one foot out the door,

and sometimes nowadays there are two feet out the door

by opting out,

but even the players that stay often,

and then we talk about coaching changes

and the transfer portal.

There are so many different aspects

that have to go into a matchup during bowl season

than they do during the regular season.

And honestly, Chad,

the way I continue to enjoy these games,

I just look at them as a preview to next year.

You know, because the teams are so different potential, you know.

So anyway, yeah,

this should be a real interesting game here, though.

Then a week from this coming Monday, December the 30th,

there'll be the music city bowl,

and Iowa, and Missouri.

Iowa, eight and four on the season.

Sometimes not pretty,

but in the end, again,

winning two-thirds of their games,

and that's what Kirk Ferenc does.

And Missouri, again, as you said,

Eli Drink, which is a very fine season,

nine-and-three campaign.

So as you said,

one of the non-playoff goals that you're looking forward to.

Yeah, you know,

he got criticized this year

in the conference, you know,

things that were being said by those

who are analysts for the SEC.

I actually thought he did his best job

because I mean, they don't think

that his talent was that good.

And his quarterback was hurt a lot of the year.

So I like them, though, in this game.

They do play offense,

and they play enough of it

to where I think they're going to get it done against Iowa.

So I like Missouri,

here, over Iowa,

in the, what is it?

The trans-perfect music city bowl down in Nashville.

And then finally on,

is this all these games on New Year's Day?

Yes.

So even the Sun Bowl this year on New Year's Day.

Interesting.

But starting off with the

Reliah Quest Bowl in Tampa,

Alabama and Michigan.

And it feels like, you know,

based on what we expected going into the season,

Alabama was expecting,

I think a lot more.

And I think people,

and I think even people around Michigan knew

that this was going to be a transition year.

Yeah.

You know,

blue blood's hooking up here.

You got to like,

Alabama,

from the standpoint of their offense,

they lost some critical people

now in the portal.

So they're going to be different

than they've been.

And yet I still think with Mill Roll,

they're going to,

they're, and they have enough,

you know, with how they recruit.

So I like them against Michigan.

And I don't think they'll try to play Michigan simply

in the mean house.

They're going to get them in space.

You want to play a high scoring

in a fair of your Alabama.

You don't want to play at 13 to 10.

That's easier.

Exactly.

This one's been going on forever and ever and ever.

Louisville and Washington.

So again,

Washington, first year in the big 10 conference,

found to be a bit of a tough transition.

Yeah.

You know, six and six.

You thought they would be better,

you know, given how they played a year ago.

But you know, they lost a lot of guys.

And you know,

like Bob David,

the old coach at Notre Dame in Texas,

A&M D quarter,

they're used to say,

it's more about Jimmy's and Joe's

than the Xs and O's.

And they lost a lot.

Yeah.

And they see that Michael Panax

is starting for the Falcons this weekend

for the first time.

So you lose a guy like that.

It's harder to win games, right?

The guy's going to start as a rookie

in the NFL.

You know, you had a talented guy.

And so you like Louisville in this game?

I do.

I like Louisville's defense.

I always thought that

that front seven,

when they're healthy,

I saw what they did to Clemson.

You know, they just

control them.

I think the final was 33 to 21.

But it wasn't really,

and one of what you would call a nail-biter

in the fourth quarter.

And sort of a big 10 reunion

for a coach from.

Yes.

Leaving, leaving Purdue a couple years ago.

But this is not a big 10 team.

He's playing.

So any advantage he may have had yet.

I know it, I know it.

She's a citrus bowl South Carolina

in Illinois coming up on New Year's Day as well.

You know, I was really pulling

for Illinois to get 10 wins.

And honestly, in the bowl season,

the teams that are still available,

I don't know if they could have had a worse draw.

You know, I think this South Carolina team

is really a talented group.

You know, Shane Beamer is kind of

growing into the job.

And they had, I thought,

a great year in lined up.

They lost a Bama.

And one of the best games of the year,

27-25.

And it was a game that Bama kind of was out of,

but battled back and got to win.

So I'm thinking South Carolina gets this done

and Beamer doesn't get to 10,

although we're certainly pulling that way.

So that's a look at the big 10

in their bowl games coming up.

And again, the start of a big,

three games going to put some numbers

and see what that has to say

about the four games,

including last night's

first game.

And you brought out

the simulator.

And let's start with

last night's game

because the numbers,

Indiana, again,

Indiana put up great

numbers.

They dominated so many

teams this season.

So it's not surprising

in a sense that the

numbers actually look

pretty good for Indiana.

I mean, you look at this

and it said

that the eight areas

assessed that Indiana

without performed Notre

Dame in eight

with one tie

with turnovers.

But I mean, Indiana

had like video game

numbers.

They were like

48% on third

down.

Come on, man.

That's way above

what you would see

as a relative average.

They were great

in the red zone,

whether scoring

or scoring touchdowns.

And then there was

still a 70% chance

when they got in your

red zone that they

were going to score a

touchdown.

And so, you know,

when you look at them,

0.66 turnovers,

eight for the

season.

And like I shared

earlier, four of them

were in one game

against Maryland.

So yeah, they

the site, the simulator,

basically said

Indiana will win this game.

The score broke

down 29 to

28.

But nonetheless, it had

Indiana winning.

Average 43 points.

So I got to tell you,

I didn't believe the

numbers.

I just thought Notre

Dame is better than them.

But nonetheless,

the site liked Indiana.

A similar breakdown

for Clemson and Texas.

But I think a little different

because I do think

that you can argue

that the schedules are

a bit closer.
