It was wonderful to get a perspective from the US Navy, but so we got to have, you know, both sides of the story here, don't we? Well, we've got balance here now, you know, Lieutenant Colonel Carp has just come in and Lieutenant, I'm going to I'm going to kind of muddle through some some things that you've done and then I want you to clarify that. Thank you.
I know that you're a New York City guy. Yes. And that you graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2004 with the Bachelor of Science degree in maritime operations and technology. And you also have a licensure from the United States Coast Guard that allows you to operate unlimited tonnage ships. I'm assuming. Yeah, those big ones. Yeah, the big one.
I actually, I knew that. There's lower than the Navy boats, but about that. And then, you know, you, you have been involved in some really impressive things in defense of the country. I know that you were involved in operation. In during freedom, you are operation, Iraqi freedom. You serve there. You've been in Kuwait.
You have been in Yemen, Lebanon, Jordan, I read and of course serving in Iraq. You also served the country in Korea. And then it looks like you were stationed at Okinawa, but you were kind of overseeing seven different areas in the Pacific. That's right. I have to tell you, Lieutenant Colonel, very impressive. And, you know, on behalf of Chad, we want to thank you for your service.
And I know how impressive, but definitely interesting and interesting 21 years. I'd say on paper and then knowing what we know about those parts of the world, I have to tell you, impressive, maybe a lacking in terms of what you have done.
Well, it certainly has been an interesting career. And of course, I started as a midshipman. So I do have a little bit of love for the Navy. I was just listening to the last guy, you know, telling all of his war stories about kicking for the Naval Academy and tremendous stories from him. I don't have those types of stories because I didn't go to West Point. I've just dated a few West Point ladies, including my wife.
I think that that makes you a winner right off the top right there. I try to get my wife to come in today to tell her stories, but she just had stories about being freezing cold watching football.
Yeah, of course, forced to be there.
And, you know, I'm sorry we didn't hook up, but with the probably just as well, because for the first time in seven years, the United States Coast Guard did beat the Merchant Marine in football this year.
You know, and so I might have been the wrong time to have you on to celebrate the Merchant, because that was the one time in eight years that they didn't manage to win the game, but I'll tell you a lot of people don't know about their rivaling, but if you read about it, it's intense.
It's really intense. Yeah, you know, we mimic our older brothers there, the Navy and the and West Point Naval Academy and West Point, but it's got the same flavor of rivalry. And we certainly try to
emulate the the the pranks that were pulled on that the Army and the Navy have pulled on each other over the years, although after 9-11, you know, the security went way up at the Coast Guard Academy, so we couldn't invade their campus anymore. I think I was part of the last raid on the Coast Guard Academy.
Well, you know, and I have to say in fairness to the Navy, stealing a mule would be harder than stealing a goat. And I know that the Army has been very successful in stealing a goat.
And I know that there are some disparaging things said from the Merchant Marine to the United States Coast Guard when they say to them that they are the
The Puddle Pirates. Yeah, well, the Navy Navy.
For sure, but we're here to talk about Army. We have to crush Navy today. I hope that they do. I don't have any money on the game, but I hope they win.
Well, we were talking earlier about the history of this game. And, you know, they first played in 1890, right?
And I mentioned you off air Navy one day came 24 to nothing, but the next year Army reorganized themselves going into that game. They only had four guys that had ever played a football game and they only got beat 24 to zip.
Now, in fairness, I'm not sure how they kept score. I know the rules were different back then, but nonetheless, Army prepared and then the following year with only their second year of experience.
Navy started playing in 1879. So they were playing a full 11 years before Army, but in year two Army won that game like 24 to six or something. So Army got up to speed pretty quickly.
We learned from our mistakes.
Well, also it doesn't it say right now. I mean, obviously, you've seen so many in so many different areas of the world that once you know what the goal is, you guys figure it out. Don't you?
We don't tend to lose tattoo. I can't speak to strategic nature of things.
You know, and so then there was there was an incident in the 1894 game that people got so angry that a rear admiral and a brigadier general were going to fight a duel. And they were going to do it. They were going to get their stuff and
paste it off on the 50 year line. Well, cool, cooler hands prevail. But anyway, President Cleveland got involved. Yeah, he got involved. And he he called in at the time, the Secretary of State was Secretary of War and the Secretary of Navy. And he called them in and said, this will not happen.
And so what they they've tried to figure out a way to defuse it because football, they wanted to keep the guys aggressive. And it was a great way to do it. So they weren't about to give up football. So what they decided was for the next five years, Army and Navy would play at all home came schedules. And so it worked. It defused it. And then they they began playing like again in 1899.
And I think they started up again. But there were a couple other things. World War One 1917 and 1918. We didn't play tragically a youngster name a burn, I think. He died in the he died in the Harvard game. And so then they canceled the rest of the season. Then one of my favorite ones in the early 20s, both Army and Navy accused each other of having ringers.
You know, the Army was going out to for the patchy and getting some guys to come in and play or whatever they were doing. So they got so angry at one another. They didn't play for two years there. So it just kind of speaks to the intensity of the rivalry just an early transfer portal attempt.
Yeah, yeah, for the patch, you know, West Point makes sense to me. Yeah. So, you know, the game is just steeped in history. And then, of course, in the 20s and 40s, Army and Navy were as good if not better than everybody playing football.
You know, you had Mr. Inside, Mr. Outside for Army with Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis. Those those guys, you know, people say they weren't as fast. I got to tell you Colonel.
I looked at Glenn Davis's time. I don't think I ever shared this with him. It was identical to a rocket ischmal. Yes, it was it was like three tenths of a second or 300 of a second. And one of them ran. I think Blanchard or Glenn Davis rather ran the hundred or ran the 40 meters or 60 meters.
But they were timed in and rocket ran 60 years, 60 meters little further. But I mean, they were right on top of each other. So I mean, he could go. And then for the Army in 58 peat Dawkins, one that was the last rep from the Army to win a Heisman.
And of course, on the other side, Navy Joe Bellino, a great half back for Navy in 1960. And then, of course, the guy everybody remembers the stall back, you know, from 63 or if they don't remember.
Well, they're going to remember Bryson daily. I'll tell you, he should have been right up there. And the Heisman candidate to me, maybe not winning obviously. But people don't talk about him enough. You know, the guys, the guys are real soldier. He's out there soldiering every day for West Point running.
Not throwing as much, but isn't it really interesting how the Army and you can say Navy as well. They've actually moved up in terms of conferences and major college football. And in this era, it is so difficult because number one, there's so much, you know, with you talk about transfer portals and everything else that Army and Navy and NIL and everything else that they are separate from it, and yet fighting ways to compete. And I think going back to what, you know, in your career, you've been put in so many different situations.
Where you have to figure things out on battlefields and the like this kind of experience, trying to figure out ways to be successful. I guess maybe some opponents that have different advantages. That's going to be able to be used in the rest of their Army careers, isn't it?
One of the Army values is selfless service. And I think you're going to see both from the Army and the Navy teams today. Two teams that are made up of people who are truly selfless. They play as a team for each other. And they're not out to get any kind of sponsorships or names and likeness. And they're not going to be able to transfer out. Nobody's going to transfer in. They've got what they've gotten. They've got to make the best use of it.
You know, and I couldn't agree more about price and daily should have been invited to New York. You know, now I know you got Gabriel or Dylan Gabriel there, the quarterback from Oregon and the kid from Miami.
Is the boy's the kid going to the boy's the kid genties going. And there's one other guy, Hunter, the Mr. Everything from Colorado. But daily Thai gentie for most touchdown scored this year. He should be in New York what he has done to his team. And you know, they always say the best player now on the best team, which was never what the Heisman was intended. That's a creation of the modern era.
All right, his team is 11 and one. They lost one game to Notre Dame who's playing in the college playoff and has home game. So that and you know, top quality loss. And why he's not involved in this. I honestly, I don't get it. I think at the very least, okay, not winning it. All right, maybe not. But being there. Colonel, he should absolutely be around with you on. Maybe if they'd have beaten Notre Dame that day, he'd have been there. You know what I mean?
Well, that, you know, that's the one game that I got to slow down. But yeah, he up. I'll tell you Notre Dame scheme for him. You could see that what they did. They knew that they had to control him. Yeah, as best they could and get him off schedule. Because if Navy can't get him off schedule today, it's going to be a long day for them.
And defending the option is to is to take away the option, right, to eliminate the quarterbacks ability to think in time and space. So Notre Dame did that really well. I mean, do that so well against N.I.U.
Can you want to talk about it? I knew I had that. It's explained the normal, you know, because again, I just think that for these teams to go what 11 and 1 and 9 to 3 respectively and in a very solid conference.
And what football is not, I think I'd like to say with like the SEC, they're basically professional football teams with some academic buildings around them.
The United States military academy football definitely is not at the top for what these young men are doing. Can you talk a little bit about the balance that in life that these young men, they're focusing on their military studies.
And then they get the time for football, but they they have the same academic and military requirements that every other cadet has, correct?
Well, sure they do. They, you know, they have to take 21 credits. They have to pass. They they're not taking underwater basket weaving. I mean, maybe maybe a few of them will take a little bit of a lighter load, you know, in some regards.
But, but not not like they do in the regular college. I mean, these guys have to, these guys really have to perform on peer, you know, on the same par as their peers in school. They don't get a chance.
They work out three times a week, you know, outside of the football practices. You know, if you go to these other schools, you're probably, you know, you're probably doing two days every every week. There's no time for that in a military academy that just isn't.
You know, and how about the fact that there's, there's kind of evidence their commitments. There's no NIL access because you're already an employee of the US government. So you cannot be getting access that your talents might suggest in today's market. You would have access to you elect to serve.
And so NIL becomes a non factor. The transfer portal in terms of the team now basically goes one way people leaving the academy, not people coming in.
So when you consider those two elements and then the fact that they went 11 and one, it becomes all the more impressive for what they accomplished. And then they be going nine and three.
The games they struggled in when when Horvath or quarterback was out. So they could very well. And I got to tell you kind of we were advocating for army versus Navy on what we thought would be December 7th.
They said that they American has no sense of history because the American conference moved that game the junior to December 6th. They moved to the day forward. And I mean, how cool would that have been Army playing Navy for the American championship of Pearl Harbor day.
It was too cool. And then when Horvath got it hurt, you know, the Notre Dame loss didn't matter because of the that's not conference. And then they struggled without him after that. So didn't happen. But nonetheless, everybody's back now. And this should be as far as I'm concerned. And to what Chad was saying, these are the two best Army Navy teams that have hooked up in quite a while.
I think so. I think you're absolutely right. So I didn't you run the numbers yesterday? Are we going to get to that? Oh, yeah, that's I got that as our grand finale. I got to keep that keep that we do need to take a time out right here. So we'll come back have more again focusing on Army and Navy. What what are we going to be doing next this all? Well, actually, we're going to take a look.
You know, we're going to challenge the Colonel to a 10 game bowl pick here. We'll see how he can do here. But we'll continue to talk Army Navy throughout the rest of the show.

We are, you know, and I guess today Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Carp is going to, he is graciously without seeing any of this as graciously stepped up to go through some of these bowl games that are going to occur between now and next Friday.

South Alabama from the Sun Belt, Western Michigan from the back. It is the veteran's bowl. So that's a good one right there. South Alabama is the favorite by eight and a half points. Should we start with?

Colonel, what do you think? Well, I'm going for Western Michigan because my high school fullback was a QB. He was a fullback. He played for Western Michigan. So I'm going Western Michigan all the way. Broncos, right?
I think Western Michigan Broncos, they are. What do you think, so well, you know, as long as this is a mental and not a physical challenge other than Colonel looks like I'd be in the next county. Anyway, I'm going to we're going to have some separation respectively right away.
I'm going to go with South Alabama. I think a little, little quicker and both on both sides of the ball. So I'm going to say that USA University of South Alabama gets this done.
All right, though, let's go to the next game. Memphis, Memphis again, they've had a little trouble with the military academies this year.
They're 10 and two from the American and they'll take on West Virginia and saw that this week. Richrod is coming back to West Virginia.
He is, you know, and I have to say, Colonel, I was advocating for Richrod to go to Purdue. Chad is a guy who always says they always emphasize in their coaching offensive guys.
And while he mentioned that last week, they didn't jump on it. They did not. I think it was a while. I think they already had West Virginia in the works for that reason.
I'm going to say that Memphis, out of the American, you know, a fellow conference member here is going to get this done and a G5 is going to be the power for.
I got to agree with you, Sully, anyone who beats Navy's, you know, I'm on, I'm on your side. There you go.
That's a scientific reason we're going to get on.
Up next coming up on Wednesday of this week, it is Western Kentucky from Conference USA, eight and five on the season, taking on the dukes of James Madison, who are eight and four.
JMU is actually the favorite by almost ten points. This is the Boca Raton ball and Colonel will start with you.
Well, I played Western Kentucky and Rugby once and so I go Western Kentucky.
You know, that's a good choice. The friend of mine went to school there. The Hill Toppers. We gave her a write down from Jolie Hut.
But anyway, you know, they, they surprised me this year. I thought they'd be a little better in Conference USA. They were not.
JMU was up and down, but I'm going to separate again, Kurt. I'm going to go with JMU in this game.
I think they're going to get their bounce back, their step back here in the post season. So I'm looking for them to get to get this done against Western Kentucky.
Also coming up on Wednesday, it's a battle of the Atlantic Coast Conference. You know, the Atlantic Coast where California is.
Cal in their first year in the ACC, six and six taking on a UNLV who's had a pretty good season at 10 and three.
This is the LA Bowl.
Yeah, I think some people just got the right and left coast make stop and ended up right together.
But I think Atlantic Coast, I think California. I tell you.
Yeah, there you have it.
You know, UNLV changed coasts. Danny Mullin took that job, you know, so he left the SPN.
He's off to UNLV. So I'm going to go, Kurt, I'm going to take Cal. Cal had Miami beat. They had them down by 25 and lost the game.
And have been real competitive to having a pretty good year this year. So I'm going to say Cal gets this done against the UNLV.
That's in a little disarray.
Yeah, I got to agree with you solely. Absolutely. And it looks like it'll be a fun game too.
All right, coming up on Thursday. Again, lot of bowl game action getting underway this week on Thursday.
It will be Georgia Southern, eight and four taking on Sam Houston State.
This is the New Orleans Bowl. So good fun time at the Superdome. And this time saw. What do you think?

Wait, are we right here? Don't believe me. One, two, three. Oh, this is the Colonel. Actually, I have a fantastic Colonel.
Oh, you get to go first here. I got I lost track here. I'm going to flip a coin here and go to Sam Houston.
Ah, you know, played much better. You know, a year ago, Colonel, this team, they were like started the season,
was their first move from the FCS to the FBA. They were like, going eight. Then they won like two or three games at the end of the year.
And then this year they have played at a pretty high level, nine and three. So it's a good pick. However,
I'm going to go with Georgia Southern in that a little better league, you know, the sun belt and Georgia Southern at times has been as good as anybody in that league.
So I'm going to go with with Georgia Southern for this pick.

Again, there's so much to discuss when it comes to the United States Army. I mean, there's so much that is so good about what these,
the military does for our country, and especially again for the young people that are involved in it.
Could you talk a little bit more about, especially for the cadets and the, and the careers that are possible and anything else that you'd like to share about the US Army?
Well, it's my job to recruit the best young men and women here in Warsaw into the United States Army in it.
And I hope that they do because, you know, you can get a lot out of an army career. You can grow up in the army.
You can mature as an adult. You can develop some leadership skills. If you incorporate the army values into your life, you will be stronger for it.
You know, the army will pay for your education. The Navy guy talked about that a little bit about all the education benefits that he's received as an officer.
So I would just say to anybody that's thinking about, you know, joining a service, come on and join the army because we've got a lot to offer.
And again, one other thing that we, we want to go through our lives one time. The, the amount of adventure that you've had in your life to be able to see the world, to be able to be part of something bigger than yourself.
I think it's something that, you know, as people think about what they want to do with their lives, that's something to really consider, right?
Adventure is the only reason I joined the army. I just wanted to, I wanted to go to, to fight in our nation's wars for good or bad.
I wanted to have an adventure in life. And I stayed in the army for 21 years because they keep offering me new challenging assignments real quickly.
What has been the biggest adventure that you've had? That maybe people could connect my favorite, my favorite experience in the army was serving in Beirut, Lebanon.
I spent over a year working there at the US Embassy with some really fine Americans in the state department.
USA Agency for International Development and some other agencies. And I tell you what, those career diplomats and, and those other, those other officers of the US government truly, truly are the finest.
Fantastic. Let's get back into the second half of our 10 game challenge, starting on Friday, Friday, Ohio from the Mac takes on Jacksonville State from the Sunbelt.
This is the curable, and we'll start off at Sully.
You know, I'm going to, I'm going to go with Ohio on this day.
I didn't think, I thought they would be third this year in the Mac. I thought, my Emmy of Ohio Chuck Martin's team.
And then I thought, I always want to say, I got to go through Tulsa Tulane and then I arrive at Toledo.
All right, so I thought those two teams would battle it out. No, Ohio stepped up. And I think they got one more in them.
So I think they're going to get Jacksonville State. And I should add, the tenor curled that, that was where the West Virginia guy, Rich Rod, Rich Rod was at.
Now he's gone. So they lost their coaches. Yeah. Okay. Well, the curable is what it is.
And I'm trying to figure out where that would be the greatest quiz is to bliss the ten, this ten ball to say, where is this game being played?
Because I have no idea. I was going to say if it's in a cold place, I'll go with, I'll go with Ohio.
If it's in a warm place, I'll go with Jacksonville State. Why not?
Do you know where this game is being played? I do not. I do. I wonder if the players know where this game is being played.
Where are we going? We don't know. We're just going to get out of the place.
You know, I have enough trouble with dispensers. I mean, you know, along the site.
Our next game is Tulane, the green wave taking off. Florida, Florida for much of the year.
No, they get to a ball. But they were able to find their way coming down the stretch.
This is the Gasparilla bowl. Yes, for real.
So this is that one will be on Friday as well. Tulane and Florida on this time.
Lieutenant Colonel will let you.
Well, I want Tulane to defeat Florida because Tulane lost to Army.
And so I want it to be to seem like Army did more by winning against Tulane in the championship than maybe they deserve.
And they beat, and they beat Navy, too.
So Tulane win is a double win for today's game.
That is a good reason he does. I think we've heard on this challenge.
It's what the Army does, man. They connect the dots.
Exactly. So there you have it.
You know, I, I'm with you. I think Florida has not relieved.
Billion appears back. The recruiting is going well.
I don't know how focused they're going to be in this game. I'm sure they wanted a bigger time game.
But you know, the thing about Tulane is this is the school that has been very much steeped in college football history and tradition.
People don't know that up here, but they were part of the SEC.
And they, they will not have any, any ounce of intimidation.
So let's say two Wayne gets one here.
They got to have a chip on their shoulder too for losing the championship.
And not only did they lose that championship, they got whooped in that championship game, didn't they?
They did by Army.
Well, you know, talking about the Army, that was one of the weirdest box scores I have ever seen.
Army had zeroes everywhere. Turn over. Fumbles.
Zero.
Zero punts.
Zero interceptions.
Zero penalties.
And subsequently zero yards penalized.
I mean, when you went down it on their team's database on ESPN, I never saw a stat to look like that.
Discipline.
Discipline.
That's what it happened.
You don't, if you have discipline, you don't commit those penalties.
You hang onto the football and ultimately you win a conference.
It's against Army regulations to hold or have a fall start.
And we, I think you can, that's remind the officials of that when they call it.
Up next, we're getting into the playoff.
Talk about, sometimes it felt like sometimes during the basketball tournament, they sometimes put these interesting matchups.
I thought maybe they did this because you have two teams from Indiana.
And I'm sure Indiana always felt like Notre Dame getting all the football love in that state.
But I you and Andy at Notre Dame Stadium.
And Sully, what do you think?
Okay, now I got to tell you.
People are talking about Notre Dame in Georgia.
I think that's foolish.
Look at Indiana had one bad outing against Ohio State.
You guys should raise your hand if you think they're going to try to make up for that.
They're going to go out and they're going to play with a lot of tenacity against Notre Dame chance point, second fiddle.
No more.
We can put an end to that.
This is going to be a very challenging game for Notre Dame.
That's that.
But Notre Dame is at home.

Personnel-wise than Indiana.
So I think Notre Dame finds a way in this game.

They are really a good program.
Well, most people get beat by Alabama.
And the ESPN guys were just bad mouthed and Mercer.

Just to be contrary, and I'll go with Mercer.

I mean, we're in dangerous times.

we fight where we're told,
and we win when we fight.
And, you know, I think the idea of a strong army
and army that, whether you're talking to Near East,
South China Sea, Eastern Europe,
I couldn't agree more.
In my lifetime, this is the most outside threats I think we've experienced.
And so, just what the colonel said did over that,
we need a strong army.
And a strong army will avoid war.
Yep.
You know, that's the key thing.
It's to not go to war.
So people sometimes come in the office, they're a little bit nervous.
They're like, well, I have to go to war.
I'm like, no, you won't as long as you join.
And we can project that strength, right?
But let me ask you something.
If we were ever to get into a war,
would you join anyway?
And they go, yeah, I would if there was a war.
Well, let's get in now so we don't have to have that war.

as we continue to count down to the big Army Navy game
being played just outside the nation's capital here today.
Was it 125 times...
This is the 125th meeting.
Started in 1890,
and have played every year, except 10.
We've kind of went through some of the reasons,
some of them relatively humorous,
some of them not so much with the war in interrupting
and during World War I.
And again, we're with Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Carp,
joining us again this year,
and thank you again for making the trek up.
We do really do appreciate that.

What direction are we going to head in now?
Still have a lot to try to cover here between now and kick off?
Okay, so I thought what we would do now is,
in this segment, take a statistical look
at where these teams rank within the family of NCAA Division I,
FBAS, the football sub-division,
and I'll tell you if you go on the NCAA site and look at it,
I think you will be surprised to maybe even somewhat shocked
at how highly Army and Navy rank when compared to the Big 10
and the SEC and other teams,
and especially Army.
They are in the top 10 in many categories.
I mean, they're in first and few.
So these teams this year,
this is going to be the best quality football.
It's always in terms of the fight and the effort.
It's as good as it gets anywhere.
I know people say, Iron Bowl, you know, Ohio State Michigan.
No, fires I'm concerned.
This is the best rivalry in sport.
It's thought about all year long,
everything that goes into their season is there.
So anyway, we'll take a statistical look here.
All right, let's jump right in.
Where are you going to start with this in terms of trying to figure out
where they kind of fit into the universe of college football?
Okay, well, let's start in total yards on defense.
Army gives up 296,
which ranks them 10th in the country.
They are the 10th.
Incredible.
Highest ranked team in the country giving up under 300 total yards.
Then let's jump over to rushing yards offense.
Navy at 247 ranks 8th.
They are the 8th best rushing team in the country.
Army at 314.4 yards per game is first.
They rank first in America, run in the ball,
and I'll tell you, if you haven't seen their quarterback,
Bryson Daily, he is a linebacker with the skill of a whiteout
playing quarterback.
I mean, the guy is unbelievable.
In terms of rushing yards defense.
When Army lines up on defense,
people are going to overpower, no, they don't overpower them.
They're the 11th best rushing defense in the country.
On the other side of it, I guess, is passing yards.
That's a little different.
A pass is a trick player, I think.
It works.
I think Army and Navy are among the top five in the yards per attempt.
Because they attempt so much to you that when they do,
I think Navy is like 11.8 yards per attempt.
Let me ask the Colonel a question,
because I think this shows a really great coaching
to go along with the great young men there on these teams.
The challenge is for the coaching staff at a military academy
is incredibly great.
It takes a certain type to be successful there, doesn't it?
Yeah, absolutely.
They're not able to recruit the rest of the colleges across the country.
The students that are applying to West Point,
they can't just be good football players.
They also have to have all the other qualifications
that are required to get into a service academy.
They have to have a congressional nomination to these academies.
There's a lot of hurdles just to get in.
Being an athlete will help them get in,
but it's not the whole picture.
The coaches have to take what they get in a sense.
They have to mold that into something
and to a unit that's effective.
It's probably a lot more work for a coach in some ways.
Maybe it's easier than others,
because you don't have as many individual personalities to deal with.
And you don't have to deal with NIL and all that other stuff.
Oh, it's crazy.
It is crazy.
And just to discipline,
when you watch these teams play,
you often see mental toughness to me.
I've spent a lot of years coaching.
It's how well you handle things when they go wrong.
You know, anybody can high five and be celebratory
when their things are going well.
You watch Army and Navy when things,
there's a mistake made.
Four guys are going to, you know,
if a guy is a specific guy,
they're going to go over and let them know it's okay.
They got his back.
And then just in general,
they just read double their efforts to get it right.
And don't pout or whine or just get back the next place.
Short memory and great focus into the next play.
And that's what they, in my opinion,
that's what I love watching in this game today.
Absolutely.
Well, the team works inculcated and everything we do in the military,
both for the Navy and the Army.
That's why this is going to be such a good game.
I mean, the statistics maybe show that Army's, you know,
got a lot on Navy.
But I think today the, the, the spear,
the camaraderie, the drive of these,
of these soldiers and sailors are going to prove that it's going to be a tight game.
Probably right to the last,
the last few plays are the fourth quarter.

Colonel, before we get back into the numbers,
you were talking to us during the break
about the uniforms and the connection
for the Army Navy game today for you.
What you will see when the Army hits the field today.
Well, if you see, you can see obviously our listeners can't see
the 101st Airborne Division patch on my right arm.
If you're in the Army, the patch you wear on your right sleeve
is your combat patch.
It's the patch that you earn from your divisional level unit
when you've actually been in combat.
I've been deployed a lot, but I was really only in combat
one time, I can say, in Iraq, you know, it was real.
That was with the 101st.
I was in the 506 Regimental Combat Team,
also known as Cari, stands alone,
named after the Cari, he mountain down in Georgia,
and today you'll see that the Army team is going to wear a uniform
that it reflects that lineage, the 101st Airborne Division,
specifically the 506 Regimental Combat Team,
and you would know that that unit
from the Band of Brothers television show.
Sure.
You know, and that's just a tremendous lineage.
We try to sustain these lineages over time,
pass them down through the generations,
and I know I was very proud as a young lieutenant
to say I was part of the Cari, he regiment.
So today I'm really excited about seeing those uniforms.
You should get online and check them out
and definitely watch the game at 2 p.m.
I imagine this will be almost a little bit of goosebumps
when you do see that.
I mean, have that connection today.
It's pretty amazing, isn't it?
The older I get in the Army, the more I get these goosebumps,
I always thought I would be too cool for that,
but someday I'm going to wear the funny veterans hat too
and parade around with my Cari, he logo on it.
Yep, for sure.
Fantastic.
So folks, when you turn on the game today,
make sure you notice that on the Army uniform.
You know, just one other thing about that,
101st and 82nd Airborne.
Is there a rivalry between those units,
or is that what's that like?
Yeah, there's a rivalry because the 82nd
will say that 101st isn't an Airborne unit,
and they're right.
The 101st is now an air assault unit,
meaning that we're air mobile.
We travel by helicopter.
We do we insert troops into combat via helicopter.
We don't jump out with parachutes.
The 82nd still airborne unit.
They're on call for any conflict around the world.
Them in the 173rd out in Italy.
Those units are elite.
101st is still elite, but no, they're right.
The 82nds right, the 101st is an air assault division
at this time.
Well, I got to tell you that I occur.
I think I would rather fly in a helicopter
and jump out of a plane into a hostile environment.
I think so.
The 101st may have a little bit.
It may be able to beat the 82nd airborne in checkers.
It seems like a better way to get the...
People don't know, but you can jump out of a helicopter
with a parachute, too.
I love jumping out of black hawks with a parachute.
That was way more fun than jumping out of a C-130.
There you have it.
Got a little less than two minutes to go.
Let's jump into the simulator, Saul.
Who's going to win this game?
Well, according to the simulator,
Army is going to outperform Navy
in seven of the eight categories assessed.
It says that Army is going to win the game,
score wise, 28, 24.
The only area that Navy is going to outperform Army
and buy the numbers now would be passing the ball.
So, as we were talking earlier,
Colonel Trickplace, you're going to have to watch out for Trickplace
with them throwing the ball.
It's going to be a great game no matter who wins.
I've got a tremendous amount of respect for the US Navy.
I've been deployed with them.
Of course, I want the Army to win,
because that's what I do for a living for 21 years.
However, it shakes that.
It's going to be really exciting.
I hope everybody watches.

It's our country on our best.
It really is.
It's something that I think everybody should take a little time to
and college football is best, too.
I think it's back to what college football should be about,
as well, for these young people that are truly...

You know, these are two teams that are good at football.
And I was real pleased that Army and Navy held the line
on the second Saturday in December playing the game.
The NCAA, quite frankly, has dropped the ball.
They have not done enough to protect the traditions in this game.
And they're letting other balls and things seep in this stage
should be for us to take a step back and honor the young men and women who serve.
One minute to go, Lieutenant Colonel.
I want to let you get the final word in.
Anything else that you want to mention or anything you want to promote again
for the people out there that may either know a young person,
or maybe a young person that is the coming of age
that would consider a military career.
Look, you know, service to your country is something you get to carry with
for the rest of your life.
You know, there's a lot of ways to serve your country.
You could be a teacher, you could be a fireman.
They're all really important jobs.
But the Army and the Navy, they're truly something special.
And I just encourage you to encourage young people that you meet
in whatever forum to come and try to serve your country
in the U.S. military.
Preferably the Army.
That's my job, but really anywhere.
