You know, Newman Catholic School, Classic School is a new iteration.
Give us a little bit about what that is and how it entails.
Sure.
A lot of people are unfamiliar with the idea of a classical school, and yet it's something
that actually is pretty familiar.
It, when we talk about something being classical, it means that it's enduring, it's long lasting,
it's good, it's beautiful, it's true, whether we're talking about classical literature,
art, music, whatever it may be.
In this case, classical education is the foundation of Western culture.
It began centuries ago in Athens.
It utilized Socratic teaching methods and also Aristotelian logic.
And that carried through into the rest of Europe, eventually North America, South America,
and it founded universities around first Europe and then around the world.
So it is something that emphasizes things that have gone before, and surprisingly, a lot
of the names of people have been educated in a classical system when you look at Galileo,
Newton.
Let's go a little more modern.
Einstein was classically educated.
Steve Jobs, a name that I think everybody recognizes, classically educated.
So this is a form of education that has endured.
By the 1950s, it was out of vogue.
And the ideas of an educator named John Dewey began to take its place.
And we lost some things.
We lost, for example, phonics.
We lost memorization of facts and mathematic tables.
We do rely on memorization, but not for the sake of memorization.
And so that students have knowledge at their fingertips, so to speak, so that they can
carry that with them for the rest of their lives.
Awesome.
That sounds great.
Well, thank you for being here, Deacon.
Now we enter the fun portion when we bring our sponsor on to enter into a little competition.
We're going to go through a series of games here between Sully and the Deacon, and we're
going to see who comes out on top after the results from this week.
So this first game, we're going to throw over to Deacon.
It's Tennessee at Georgia.
Two good teams, but I think Georgia, perhaps, feeling a bit wounded, I think Tennessee is
going to have everything that can handle and I pick Georgia in this one.
Alrighty.
You know, going up against the Deacon is not something from a spiritual perspective either
much of a shot in, and then the make matters worse.
Like how many state champions ships did you win when you were coaching, curling at East?
We won nine state championships.
So we got, we got the spiritual side, which I'm way, way behind.
And now he's got nine championships going for him.
So Mike, based on that, I'm going to go with you in this first game.
I think Georgia is desperate to eliminate in game for Georgia.
I think Georgia comes out and plays a lot like they played against Texas and to make
matters more difficult for Tennessee, it looks like their quarterback is out.
Oh, yeah.
That'll be a big difference maker there.
The next game is LSU at Florida.
Sully, you're going to start this one and then Deacon, you can pick after that.
You know, Billy Nupier just got a vote of confidence, the Florida coach, to be back next
year.
He's always been a supporter of Billy Nupier.
Did great work when he was at Louisiana.
I think he's a very good coach.
And I think Florida was a mess.
And he's working his way back, they're playing much better now.
So I think upset here, Mike, I think Florida gets after and takes down LSU.
Well, and I'm going to disagree with you on that one.
I think that LSU has not necessarily had the kind of season that everybody hoped they
would have.
And I think that LSU still tips the scales on that one.
All right.
There you have it for that second game.
And we've got, I don't know what we're going to do here, but we got Oregon at Wisconsin,
Deacon, you're first up on this one.
Oh, thanks for letting me do the first game.
Oregon, of course, is a very powerful team.
And Wisconsin, my heart is with Wisconsin.
You know, I'm a badger, but I think Oregon is going to be too powerful.
I know that they're 14 point favorites in this one.
I don't know if they'll cover that or not, but I think they'll win the game.
Yeah.
You know, Deacon, I'm with you, with your heart, with the badgers, but the ducks are just
bringing too much speed.
They're going to force the game into space.
And Wisconsin is just athletically just a quarter second slower.
Absolutely.
Next game on the roster there is Michigan State at Illinois.
Sully, you're first up on this one.
You know, I kind of like what Belima has done.
He's kind of resurrected Illinois and, you know, big game for them today.
The Alina Deacon have a chance this year to win 10 games.
So it's a big deal for them.
Michigan State is going to bring it.
This is a very good game, but I like Illinois in the end at home to get this done.
Well, I'm going to agree with you on that one.
Belima did a decent job when he was in Wisconsin.
Had some trouble down in Arkansas after a while.
Now at Illinois, he's got them looking pretty good.
And Michigan State is not the Michigan State that we are used to seeing.
So yes, I go with Illinois.
Yeah, absolutely.
And then the fifth game we've got here is two lane at Navy.
Both of these teams are substantial winning records this year.
Deacon, this one's first three.
Well, I know that a lot of people have probably picked two lane.
I'm not going to.
My heart goes to the surface academies.
My dad was a Navy guy and we used to sit in front of the TV and every Navy game
that we watch usually would be Army Navy.
We always pulled for a Navy.
And I'm going to pull for Navy again.
I'm somewhat offended being an Army guy.
Yeah, well, you guys are right over there.
Yeah, we'll be all right.
He's got his robe and collar on him again.
Don't let the collar fool you.
Don't let the lap of one foot.
All right, look at this game is one of the biggest games of the day
because it sets the stage for a game that I am absolutely excited to see.
And that is on December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day, if Navy gets this done today,
they could be playing Army for the American championship.
So how cool is that to get these two teams relevant again?
In the 40s and 50s, they were as good as it got in college football.
So Deacon, I'm with you.
Navy feels that they know the potential of how great that would be.
Tulane is going to get their best Navy finds a way.
Awesome, there you go.
That's the first half of our Challenge Sully's Challenge.
You know, Deacon, we just mentioned that a little bit about the Newman Classic School.
Give us a little bit more of a rundown in the location,
all those things, whatever you have to offer that people can be informed on.
We are located on the corner of Thomas Street and Ninth Avenue.
We are connected to Holy Name Parish.
It's a school building that has been there since the late 1940s.
When the parish was built, they built the school first,
prior to building the church, and their emphasis was on children.
And it is still to this day.
One of the things that's important in classical education is the methodology.
And we begin grades K through five,
looking at a grammar level, which is the acquisition of knowledge.
I mentioned that a little earlier.
The next phase is a logic phase, and it is teaching students how to think.
We don't want to ever teach them what to think.
But we want to teach them how to think.
We teach them how to use the syllogism model that Aristotle created.
And it's useful in understanding things, in developing argument.
And then finally, in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12,
they're after the logic phase, there is the rhetoric phase.
And that emphasizes outstanding writing, excellence in writing,
but also public speaking.
Not many schools emphasize that anymore.
And it's putting logic to use for persuasive speech and persuasive writing.
And that is so vital.
And our children, and this is shown through classical schools all over the country.
And it is a movement that is literally sweeping the country.
But those students who have been classically educated do as well or better
than other students when they hit college in all areas,
whether it's the liberal arts or science, technology, engineering mathematics.
It sounds like you put the foundation in place first,
and then they feed off of that for everything through 9 through 12.
That is absolutely a great way of looking at it.

You know, check it out, Newman Classic Schools, the Holy Name Parish.
Now we're going to get into the second half here, Deacon of the Sully's College Football Challenge.
Sully, you're up first on this one.
This is Virginia at Notre Dame.
I wonder which way you guys are going.
You look at this is a, this is a close game.
I don't know how you're going to pick this one.
It's a while, Virginia, last week, upset Pittsburgh, and Pitt was 7 and 1.
So it's not as if they haven't been in with some teams that can play they have.
So trap game for Notre Dame.
Hopefully, Freeman has communicated that.
Oh, Marcus has got everybody's attention.
We don't want to mention Northern Illinois too late.
You know, so they need to be, they absolutely need to be ready to go.
I think Notre Dame realized what's at stake here with the College Football Playoff.
I think the Irish come ready, senior day, they find a way and get this done.
Well, I'm going to go with Notre Dame as well.
I think Notre Dame already saw their trap game early in the season.
Hopefully, they only have won this year.
Being Irish myself and also Deacons are required to take continuing education.
Most of my continuing education, I've done it in Notre Dame.
So I'm an Notre Dame guy and I'll go Notre Dame.
So these are two homeer picks here.
You know, you better be careful how you classify these picks.
Right.
Also, next game on the line here, Deacon, you're going to go first in Nebraska at USC.
Boy, funny to think about this being a big 10 matchup.
Yes, you're right.
But I think USC, they haven't had a great season.
But I think they're more powerful than Nebraska and I picked them over Nebraska.
You know, I thought by this time Nebraska would have resolved the ball eligibility.
You know, a Maddie rule, great coach has always done well in the second year.
But this year, Deacon, he didn't have a quarterback back.
He had a new quarterback come in and so they're kind of gone through some growing
points as see with three games to go needs to win two to be bowl eligible,
which is shocking as well.
So it's a desperate game for both people or both teams.
I'm going to go on out on a limb that Nebraska finds away in this game and gets
as see which they have not done their own three against them in the last three times.
But I'm going to say Nebraska finds away in this game.
Awesome.
There you have it.
Next on the roster, Texas at Arkansas, Texas, eight and one Arkansas five and four solid
year first on this one.
All right.
Deacon.
This is my upset pick.
Sam Pittman, the coach at Arkansas, when he took the job a few years back, he said something
pretty funny.
He said, for all of you out there, all you hog fans, I want you to know something.
Our primary, our primary rival, our primary concern is Texas, so he said it.
So he's well thought of, I think Arkansas is going to make the great effort and I think
they're going to shock Texas today.
Well, I hear I'm going to disagree with you, Sully.
I think Texas is just a two powerful a team and you know, I know everybody's going to
be on, you know, Sully and get after him.
But I just think Texas is a better team.
Awesome.
There you have it.
Game coming up at three, ten on the ACC and network is Missouri at South Carolina.
Both these teams are relatively evenly matched and Deacon, you're first on this one.
I saw that they're both pretty even and I think my heart was going toward Missouri.
But I thought, well, being that close South Carolina at home, I think I'll go with them
as the home team.
Yeah, this is the battle for Columbia.
I know a lot of people in the academic realm at the University of Wisconsin favored bringing
Missouri into the Big Ten over Nebraska when that occurred because Missouri is an AAU member.
You know, the Association of American Universities, really high functioning and university
do a lot of research, but nonetheless, I'm going with South Carolina in this game.
South Carolina was with two points of beating Alabama, Slobberknock, Texas A&M, a couple
weeks ago.
Missouri has struggled all year.
I like South Carolina in this game.
Absolutely.
And then the last game of ours, Sully's college football challenge.
We have Clemson, 72 at Pit, four and five Sully.
Yeah, and that's a misprint.
That should be, Pit should be seven and two Joe.
You know, as the Deacon can tell, he spent a few years with me at Newman.
He knows I'm capable of doing things that are not accurate.
Not enough years.
Yeah, that's wrong.
That's seven and two.
It's seven and two.
All right.
So here's what I'm thinking on this game.
Pit, Pit and our dues, these two coaches, this little Michigan State guy, he has over
achieved this year.
They're really not as good as their record.
And that's related to Nardousey.
Defense travels.
He's a defensive guy.
And they, you know, people get critical of them the last two weeks.
I would say rather than be critical of him, you should be congratulating him, because
quite frankly, they're not that good.
As a result, I like Clemson in this game.
Well, just looking at this, Clemson, the tradition, the background that they've had
they've been playing for the top spot for years and years, I have to go with Clemson.
Awesome.
There you have it.
That wraps up our 10 game challenge.
Deakin summarized what we have going on over there at the Holy, or New Macatholic School
at Classic Schools.
Well, over at Holy Name, I think there are a lot of really good things that are going
on.
But one of the things that I think, when I've taken, I was the interim headmaster
or principal there until July.
When I took families on a tour, there was one thing that was paramount for the families.
And that was, were we going to be truly a Catholic school?
And the answer is yes.
We are not a school that simply has a secular curriculum with a religion class added on
somewhere along the line.
We immerse the children in our faith in every single class they take.
Now, you may ask, wait a minute.
How do you teach Catholic math?
Is there such a thing?
Yes, there is.
When God created the universe, it was chaos.
And he brought order to that.
In mathematics, you use math to explain the universe to show that it is orderly.
It's not a chaotic place.
It is truth, beauty, and goodness.
The truth that comes out in the order that comes out, whether you're talking about arithmetic
or algebra or calculus.
Two plus two is always going to be four.
You can't argue with me that it's going to be 98 or 347.
Two plus two is four, pure and simple.
Calculus, for example, explains motion, explains how the world works in science.
Again, science explains the what and the how our faith explains the why.
And so when parents came to take it to where they wanted to know what it meant to be Catholic
or classical, excuse me, but most importantly, these families want to know that their children
are being immersed.
The other thing I want to say is that it is a happy school.
When I go back to visit and walk down the hallways, I hear children learning, I hear laughter,
I hear music, I hear songs.
Our music program is tremendous, our art program is tremendous, and there's a sense of community
and belonging in this school.
I am so pleased and I truly believe that the Holy Spirit is working hard at Newman Catholic
Classical School at Holy Name Parish.
You know, and Mike, I'd like to give a shout out to the Jeff Gullin who looked at the
potential here of providing another way for Newman to do its outreach, to bring people
into the faith, to bring people back into a Catholic educational environment.
And I know the other presidents in the various, you know, high schools, whether it's lacrosse
or Pacelli are all very much looking, you know, to Jeff to say, how exactly does this happen?
And then of course, Father Martin, who was instrumental in doing this and convincing people
at Newman that this was not something that it was a threat, but it was another way to
do the outreach within the Catholic environment.
Well, that's a great point, because we're not a competitor, we compliment.
We attract students that may not have been attracted to other Catholic education.
And two people, instrumental, you're absolutely right, Father Martin had the dream and Jeff
Gullin, the president of Newman Catholic Schools, said yes.
And those two things, and besides that, we have the backing of the Bishop and our Dean.
And with those two men behind us, and then Father Martin and Jeff Gullin, we've got everything
that you could possibly ask for.
And the other thing is that Holy Name Catholic School is the only school in the entire diocese
of lacrosse that once closed, it's the only one that has reopened.
How cool is that?
That's amazing.
And then I got to say, my favorite linebacker over the years, played for Notre Dame on a
1966 championship, and his name was Jimmy Lynch.
And I noticed now that Jimmy has re-emerged.
He is the president of, or the principal, rather, of Newman Classical School.
Now, the thing about Jimmy that I admire, he doesn't seem to have age too much, and he's
gotten a little smaller, I noticed that.
I hate to tell you this.
It's probably a different Jimmy Lynch, and we can say the Holy Spirit was.
And my grandmother, her maiden name, was Lynch, so I teased him off of that.
We're related.
She was a redhead, just like he has great guy, a wonderful educator, and we have just
a magnificent, caring, faithful staff.
I can't speak too highly of the teachers and the administration that we have.
And full disclosure, Mike, I got to let you know I made that up about thinking that was
Jimmy Lynch.
Well, Sally, you've said things like that in the past, and I've never known whether
to take it seriously or not.
So I was going to let it ride.
Unbelievable.
There is that.

I'm here with Sully, the professor.
We're getting right into our F-E-F.
What about that, buh?
F-C-S and G-5 rankings, Sully.
Start with Incarnate World.
We're on us, Reload.
Yeah.
We're talking, we're short time here, so we'll kind of zip through these.
Incarnate World is eight-and-tool.
That is the largest Catholic school in Texas, that's a Texas school.
UC Davis at 9-1 out of the big sky is fourth in our rankings, and then South Dakota State
lost the game, 13-9 in North Dakota State, and then lost to Oklahoma State, so an FBS
team.
Those three teams are all high-functioning Joe, and every one of them capable of winning
the F-C-F playoff.
Awesome.
Jumping down into the group of five, the G-5, the big ones, run through him with Sully
for it.
All right, well, you know, one of the dimensions to our second ranked team is North Dakota
State in the F-C-S, who beats out the Dakota State, lost a very competitive game to Colorado,
who is now challenging for the big 12, and then Montana State is the fifth undefeated
team at the Division I level B at F-C-S.
So that rounds that out, Joe, then moving to the group of five.
For years, Joe, we separate this.
We do the group of five, which are FBS programs, meaning they offer 85 scholarships just like
the Wisconsin and Alabama of the world.
And right now we got Georgia Southern at six and three out of the Sun Belt, Navy out
of the American Athletic Conference, and then Sam Houston out of the conference, USA,
our ranked 10, we ranked 10, 9, and 8th.
Yes.
And then the bottom half of that is seven Western Kentucky, they're set up, and Western
Kentucky dealer is favored by 13, UNLV at Hawaii, or not at a Hawaii, UNLV is where we're
ranked there.
Their last game was a win.
That game is one of my favorite games every year.
It's Sin City versus Paradise Island, always an entertaining game, and this year, more
of the same, the game ended up 29, 27, really a competitive game, we've got them sixth.
And then at five, we got Memphis State out of the American, a Navy gave them a loss earlier
in the year.
So Navy needs this one today with two lanes.
And then we have round out four through one, what do you got there, Sully?
You know, Louisiana has quietly had an outstanding year, that's building a pair, we mentioned
the Florida coach.
He was there, they have come back, had some real close games show that they won early.
Now they've been separating themselves and look to be one of the better group of five
teams.
We mentioned two lane, eight and two, handle tempo last week, 52 to seven.
And then one of the biggest games, maybe the biggest game that nobody really is talking
about, and that's two lane, you know, at Navy.
Yes, absolutely, and round and out the top two there, Sully.
You know, then Army, ten and all, or nine and all, brother, has a loss to game yet this
year.
And then Boise, the leader in the clubhouse for the college football playoff, and eight
and one, and they've got probably their biggest threat left in San Jose, they're playing
today.

Alrighty, welcome back to Sully's College Football Page.
I'm Joe Nino sitting in for Chad Holmes.
Best for me is Sully, the professor Dan Sullivan.
It is the holiday season coming up and as usual, the Nutcracker event that's happening
put on by the Central Wisconsin School of Ballets.
The Nutcracker is a holiday event for the whole family.

Great haul before and after performances.
Children can take a ballet lesson with Clara before and meet the Nutcracker characters
after the Saturday and Sunday matinee performances.

their silent auction.
Like I said, this is the 55th anniversary of the Nutcracker.
The performances will be December 7th at 1 30, December 7th at 7 and December 8th
at 1 in the afternoon for the matinee.
Yeah, and this is a family-owned school pad has taken up and for many, many years now
has run the business for his father.
His partner Stephanie, I worked with that Newman.
One of the best educators I've ever worked with, in fact, Deacon Meyer and her were in
the building together which greatly increased the rigor of our academics.
And so, you know, Dr. Stella, like Deacon Meyer, great, great people to work with, and
they've continued that greatness within how they present ballet here in Warsaw.
Absolutely.
And with that, we're going to jump right into a little more college football.
The top 25 power for only 20, and we're going to run through them here with 25 down to
11.
Okay.
So we're going to start with 25.
We got LSU Joe with 25, 6 and 3.
They got Slobberknock to buy Alabama.
We could go 42 to 13, a little bit of a surprise.
Night game in Louisiana.
You know, you think Baton Rouge come that Saturday night, that's a tough place to play.
But actually, Alabama has had a lot of success, and they have won there more than they have
lost.
So, not really a surprise in that regard, but nonetheless, the score, the 42 to 13 was
definitely a little bit of a surprise.
Right.
Then at 24, we got Iowa State from the big 12, lost Kansas, but they got Cincinnati coming
up this evening on Fox.
Yeah.
You know, and Iowa State is kind of falling on hard times.
They've kind of played themselves.
They were unbeaten at 7 and 0, and now I've lost two in a row.
And it's unlikely, I mean, things are going to have to happen for them to get back into
the big 12 championship, championship game.
Right.
And then following that, we got Pitt coming up against Clemson.
It's always going to be a good game that's, you know, that borders on rivalry there.
Oh, yeah.
And Pitt, like I said earlier, Patton, Arduzzi is an outstanding defensive coach, spent
time in Michigan State.
They were always formidable when he was running the D there.
Look for them to give Clemson a run, but they are overachiever spit this year.
And I think people get critical in Arduzzi.
I'm going to call time out on that and say, hey, he's overachieving, you know, so-
With the talent he has.
Yes.
Alrighty.
And then in 20 second, we got Louisville up next Stanford.
Yeah.
You know, Louisville has had some tough losses this year.
They're very good, and especially very good in the front seven.
Louisville is going to make some noise in the big 12, and they still have a path to get
to the championship game.
A few things have to happen, but there's nobody in that league, you know, that in the
game, when I say the ACC, that they're not capable of beating.
They can beat Miami.
They lost the close game to them earlier, but they are quite capable.
Right.
And the game after that is Arizona.
They're playing Kansas State.
Next, Kansas State's got, has been doing some little upsets here in the last several
weeks or if May games closer than people thought they would be.
Yeah.
You know, Arizona State was not getting a lot of love to be preseason.
It was Arizona.
People thought Arizona would be much better a guy named Brent Brennan, took that job.
We had a lot of success at San Jose State, but it's actually been Arizona State that has
played at the higher level.
And in a big game today with Kansas State, and then, you know, at 20, we got Washington
State.
Joe, and this is a team that's in limbo.
They're not really in a power five.
They're not really classified as an independent.
So I don't know what to say.
They are these days.
You know, the Pac-12, as it stands today, has two teams in it, you know, and in my understanding
there's a lawsuit going on with that, isn't there that the two universities remaining
are?
Yeah.
They've been fighting as to who would get the Pac-12 revenue while Washington State and
Arizona, Oregon State won that.
And now they went and started poaching team or poaching teams from the Mountain West.
Now the Mountain West is kind of getting after them about, hey, you know, this is a violation
of existing contract and you're the perpetrator.
So it's kind of a mess, Joe.
But anyway, and it's a bigger mess to define how they fit to this, but they would have
to get an at large bid to get into the college fail.
So they don't have a 50-50 chance in being a conference judge?
I would say, yeah, they could win that, but I don't think anybody is going to recognize
it.
All righty.
Then we're going down to Missouri.
They got South Carolina up next.
Yeah.
We got two teams that are ranked.
I'm Missouri at 19th, South Carolina at 18.
Now keep in mind, these are always college football rankings.
We continue to do ours, you know, in spite we talk about certainly the committee's rankings,
but we always do ours, you know, and through the end of the year.
But anyway, big game today, the Battle for Columbia, it's Columbia, Missouri versus Columbia,
South Carolina.
And we talked about this game as one of the better games of the day.
Should be a fun game.
South Carolina is favored by 13 and a half.
It's on the SEC network at 315 if you want to check this out.
Absolutely.
You said right next to each other, they're 18 and 19 so we can bring the breeze on down
to 17 Kansas State Arizona State coming up next.
Yeah.
You know, Kansas State is really one of my favorite teams to watch.
They, they show recruit junior college better than anybody in the kind of Kansas.
There's not a lot of people live there and not great high school football, but yet this
program is always good.
This claimant is the coach, he was the old coach or one of the coaches at North Dakota
State had a lot of success, one national championships, and has kept that going and improved
in the dad in Kansas City, Kansas State, and a big game today with Arizona State, another
team in the big 12 from the back 12, that has really over achieved.
Right.
And then that, you know, this team is making some big noise over there and they're almost
become in the Miami of the West.
This is Colorado.
They got Utah up next week.
You got them at 16.
I haven't heard anybody say that, Joe, but that's a good analogy.
You know, Deon is bringing attitude.
Yeah, he's morally obligated to say something that's controversial.
Yeah.
And the reality is when he went to Jackson State, they went from about 20,000 attending to
just under 40,000.
And so now Colorado, selling out, so whatever you say about him, you can also talk about
the fact that he puts people in this state.
Absolutely.
100%.
We got cleansed and they got pit coming up.
Yeah, we talked about this game.
You know, devil Swini, the one thing I admire about him is he does not take transfer
portal.
He has not had since the spend available.
He has never had a transfer come in and start.
They still take them.
They just don't actively pursue them.
Exactly.
And they haven't yet.
And that's how he sells his program.
Joe, if you come to play for us.
You don't know who you're going to be competing with for playing time.
Right.
And we're going to stay right about that.
And that's a, and that's a big thing too, because you know, you go there and you're moving
up the depth chart and all of a sudden they start pulling people in and, you know, you
get shuffled to the back.
That's not good for a program either.
No, it is not.
Yeah.
So, and moving over to the 13th ranked team SMU.
Yeah.
You know, this is a team that's kind of come out of nowhere.
And they're not in the big 12.
People think that they're not.
They're in the ACC.
Here's the other thing about them.
Since they have experienced the death penalty all those years ago, they, um, they have been
anxious to get their brand back to a power four, power five until this year.
So they finally did.
Now, when they went into the ACC, most people don't know this.
They took no money.
They get no money from that conference.
That's how desperate they were to get the land.
Yes.
Yes.
And so, you know, you kind of quietly, in today's age in America, for not talking about money,
we're talking about race, for not talking about race, we're talking about gender, and
if we're not talking about money, money, race, we're not talking.
Right.
You know, so here's the team that just said, hey, we're not worried about any of this.
We just want to get our status back as one of the best football programs in the country.
And they are proven it.
Right.
We got Miami ranked at 12th.
They have a buy this week and then move it on to the 11th team.
Ranked is Georgia, Tennessee coming up when we've talked about this a couple times
already today.
Yeah.
And we all know that Georgia is better than 11th, but that's where right now, we're not
doing a power ranking, we're doing a deserved ranking.
And they just have been inconsistent defensively, which is kind of shocking to say.
And you know, their quarterback has not played at the level that people fought.
And so they've had issues there, deficiencies at QB and defense sometimes, yay, sometimes
nay.
They showed up against Texas and they really need to show up today against Tennessee.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.

I'm Joe Nino sitting in for chat homes.
Across from me, as I've mentioned several times already today, is the professor Dan Sully Sullivan.
We're wrapping up this week's show.
We're going into our top 25 powerful only tonned down to one.
Starting it out results from week 11, Alabama beat LSU, 42 to 13, they have Mercer up next.
Yeah, well, you know, Alabama was talking about the SEC, every team in the SEC, there
are 16 and every team in the ACC, there are 17.
So those 30, what is that 33 teams, all of them play at least one FCS, and you can count
a 63 scholarship win towards your six, but only one.
Only one.
You cannot count two.
You know, and so as a result, all of these teams played, and this is Mammister, Mercer's
out of the Socon, because as you know, we track them as well.
We talk about them a lot on the site, but not on the show.
The bottom line is very good team, but it won't matter to any of them, exactly, over.
Right.
So here we are at number nine.
We got Ole Miss, B-U-G-A, or University of Georgia last time, this week they've got
a buy.
Yeah, you know, last week I was very excited to watch Carson Beck, Georgia's quarterback,
very highly touted, really good player, but struggling this year against a guy who I think
is flat out better, and that's Jackson Dirt, and he throws them, he throws Dirt.
And last week they came out, and they just took care of business.
They beat Georgia 28 to 10.
They just beat them solidly in every phase, and Ole Miss looked to be last week, anyway,
the best team in the SEC.
Right, exactly.
And we got your Alma Mater, and I got your Alma Mater, whatever you want to call it.
Your name up against U-V-A of this year.
Yeah, and I was talking to a couple of graduates of Notre Dame last night at Carmelo's, high
quality people.
I mean, this really good guys.
But anyway, yeah, the Irish just slobber knocked, FSU, who was, you know, our struggling
might at least, you know, Norvell is an excellent coach, but it's like they never recovered
from last year's shunning of the college football playoff, you know.
A lot of major slides this year, you know, you had Michigan slide, you had Washington slide,
you had Florida State slide, you know, arguably everybody that, whatever they said about Florida
State last year, not getting in has come to fruition now.
Yeah, well, you know, I thought the team that really got bypassed and really was unfairly
more so than Florida State was Georgia.
Absolutely.
Georgia was 12 and 0 lost to Bama in a very close game, and then Bama plays Michigan to
overtime.
Georgia, and then Georgia played Florida State and beat him 63 to three or something.
Right.
You know, so if anybody last year was slided in my humble opinion, it was Georgia.
Obviously, Georgia was a far better team than Florida State, you know, and especially
with the desertions and, you know, the injury to Jordan.
Right.
At seven here, we got BYU going up against Kansas this week.
Kansas, you know, that record doesn't say a lot about the quality of that team right
now.
Yeah.
Well, you know, if you look at them, Joe, they lost several games by three or fewer points
and they've been playing better lately, Lance Lyapol is their coach and Lance was out
of white water, and his record is like a video game.
He was like 109 and six or something.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Bizarre.
Right.
And, you know, they've been, they've been growing every year this year.
They've struggled.
But not when you look at us at the results of those games, they're all like 27 to 25, 30
to 27.
Well, I look at the Kansas.
The Kansas, Kansas.
I mean, Kansas State was on course to pull that off that they haven't won against Kansas
in a long time.
And lo and behold, Kansas came rolling back and beat Kansas State.
You know, so the bottom line with them, they're dangerous.
Yes.
And, you know, BYU better be ready.
The thing I always enjoy about BYU, most age, the average age in a college football team
is like 19 years, three months.
Not these guys.
They're like 21, eight months because, you know, guys go on missions and come back really
better people.
Absolutely.
More mature.
And such.
And so this is always a tough out, but they better be ready because, oh, Lance, he's going
to have these guys ready to go.
Absolutely.
At six, we got Penn State and they're playing Purdue.
We've gone over this game a little bit.
We have, you know, produced a 28-point dog Penn State is looking to take care of business
like we talked.
They want that spot five to eight in the college football playoffs.
So they get a game at Happy Valley, which I think right now is big for them.
That could be, I mean, for the people who put money on games, it could be a trap game.
28-point favor there.
Yeah.
Well, you know, that's a lot of points for anybody.
Yeah.
Purdue is just struggling, you know, so it's hard to have any trust in them, you're not sure
what they're doing.
They're playing for pride and that's a motivation that you just can't quantify.
Yeah.
You know, so if Walters coach Walters, Ryan Walters is able to continue to tell them,
you can't embarrass yourself.
Another team cannot embarrass us as long as we continue to play and play hard.
Absolutely.
So I think that's what they're going to try to do and we'll see what happens.
Moving into the top five, we've got Indiana and they got to buy this week.
They're sitting out and you can bet all eyes are on Columbus.
Oh, yeah.
Look at it.
I should say at Northwestern.
They're looking to see what happens down and they're not playing it right in the field.
I don't know.
I think they're playing it really field today and they've adjusted it.
So I remember one year, Illinois played Northwestern there and you could only go one way.
So you had to keep changing ends when you got the ball because they couldn't get the ten
yard end zone and then the buffer if they required four yards or five.
They couldn't get it in.
So they just set the field to one end.
It was the ten yard end zone.
But anyway, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's where this game is at and Ohio State has to
just come in and focus and I would say they need to start this game with the sense of
urgency.
Get them down and then drown them.
Right.
And number four there, we got Tennessee coming up next is Georgia.
Yeah, you know, and this one a couple of times already too.
Yeah, Tennessee.
Yeah.
Huge game for them, but they're not eliminated if they lose.
However, I would encourage them to play this close.
Absolutely.
In a loss.
Well, and it's at Georgia too.
I mean, when you travel down there in those Southwest schools or Southeast schools, they're
you know.
And Georgia knows this is an elimination game.
So they're fully cognizant and completely focused.
Absolutely.
And then we got Texas at number three.
They beat Florida last time, 49 and 17.
They got Arkansas.
I'm next.
We talked about this one a little bit too as well.
We have a lot of these games.
You know, I've got Sam Pittman is one of the guys that I really enjoy listening to.
So, you know, I'm hoping his team does well and I'm picking them in my upset at a day
here.
Awesome.
You got Arkansas over Texas.
Oh, yeah.
We picked that one.
That's right.
That'll be interesting.
All right.
And then number two.
We got Ohio State who just walloped Purdue 45 and nothing.
Yeah.
You know, in a big game at a big game at Wrigley coming up here and I'm looking.
Does it say this prints too small joy?
Yeah.
Yeah.
People got to, you know, the boomers are coming into aging.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Exactly.
And then our final game is Oregon number one and they got Maryland and their organs
figured by 14.
Yeah.
You know, the badgers are definitely up against it.
You know, I think most coaches don't look at this as an opportunity.
So it's an opportunity to get a signature win to kind of shock people.
This could be like you said, this could be a pivot game.
Yes.
This could be a pivot.
It's because you can't do much worse in the Wisconsin program from what it was since
he's come in.
Yeah.
So he's got to find a way to number one, create an identity.
Number two, how to motivate these guys because you know, this, this will be a big statement
on how the team moves for how they play against Oregon.
