Wester in Kentucky number eight in UNLV number seven UNLV had a couple of big games in the last seven days haven't they well they got beat last night, you know, in a bit they had that big win last week
So didn't have much time to really enjoy that Oregon State when did they they did not and the game last night was 29-24
You know Barry Odom has done really good work there good coach from Missouri and he's kind of woken up
The the the the rebels there to where they are now recruiting better one of the interesting things and funny things is the NCAA made it clear that while they will take oil money
They will not take casino money. So you and OV's big time boosters really are in the background number six is Tulane and number five Memphis both from the AAC
Tulane five and two Memphis that only blemish against Navy but still doing very well at six and one
Yeah, and and Memphis has a loss in the conference Tulane does not the good thing going forward for army they don't have to play them today to lane plays North Texas who also has one loss
And if in fact Tulane beats them that to army would be playing to close out the season biggest threat to them Tulane though has to play Navy
So Navy's got Notre Dame today which no effect on the conference but that Tulane game looms pretty large couple of unbeaten's at four and three got Navy
We've talked quite a bit about the end of big win against Charlotte last week and now the massive massive game against Notre Dame coming up in about half an hour's time and then Liberty is still just keeps on winning there number three
And this week and my apologies get I didn't know that Kennesaw State who was oh and six beat Liberty really they beat him on Tuesday night and I meant to go the heck to that happen
It was you know Liberty 25 and a half point favorites and they lost they did they got and they were down
Seven points with about three four minutes to go and you thought they're gonna get a stop and they're gonna get a score
They're gonna get this game in OT and they're gonna come out like they did the week earlier against FIU where they didn't play very well
Instead Kennesaw oh and six takes the ball down the field and kicks a field going goes up 10
Well then you know we thought they would come back they did they got a touchdown but there were only about 50 seconds in the game
The outside kicked it bounced around and then Kennesaw State got it and made a first out and so then they just I could not believe it
I thought when I turned it came out in the 40 something no and we talked about them nobody knows where they're out they're in Georgia
and Liberty is not gonna be going to a New Year's Day game this time around are they after that I would think no I think that
The American or Mountain West Conference champ would go in front of them
Again we talked about early in the season there are losses and they're bad losses and that's a bad loss

Number two and number one you got army number two they beat East Carolina last week they're off today
And Boise State as you said number one going into the weekend they did nothing to hurt themselves with a big win again
The big part of that wasn't on the blue turf that was in Las Vegas
Yeah it was they went there and got it done and you know you went off he was loaded for this game
They understood the significance New Year's Day 6 ball possible and I'll tell you give boys credit they went in there and got it done
You know the other guy that that Bryson daily the quarterback we didn't get a chance to talk about the iceman maybe in the next session as to be able
He is one of my guys he is having a great great year for army and the Navy quarterback a kidney Blake or about is also having a great year

Let's talk about the top 25 and this is the power for top 25 from Sully's college football page and not the national rankings
This is from Sully's college football page and starting off with the 25 and 24
We'll start with a pair of ACC teams Duke and Syracuse Duke number 25 at six and one Syracuse number 24 at five and one
But they had a rough one against Pittsburgh Hunters they didn't they they certainly did and just a fair clarification
We do the rankings on Sunday and then we don't we don't yeah the weekly rankings yes going into the week's action exactly right because you know
McCord Kyle McCord I might say anyway he uh he started a game first quarter three picks two of them were picks sixes
And one of them resulted in a field goal and so I couldn't believe the way they started that game
And it didn't get a lot better as Narduzzi really confused them as to what they were doing
And he ended up throwing five interceptions in the game number 23 and 22 got Wisconsin back in the rankings at number 23
And Ole Miss was back in the top 10 a few weeks ago now at number 22
And I'll tell you we went back and forth with Nebraska you know being at five and five and two as well
But their performance against Indiana Indiana was so poor and Wisconsin has just been ascending
So in the end it became pretty clear to us now 23 belongs to the majors
Number 21 and 20 at Washington State they beat Hawaii 42 to 10 last week to improve to six and one
They have an interesting road game at San Diego State coming up tonight then number 20 Pittsburgh still undefeated
I imagine after again of a very impressive performance against Syracuse they have the potential moving up
Yeah well you know the Narduzzi has quietly been just going about his business and Pitt is now seven and all
And I really even though they're seven and all they're kind of under the radar you know they really are
They have such a poor year last year I think that has something to do with it they really struggled last year
You know and everybody is talking about Miami Clemson game not so fast my friend this may very well be the Miami or Clemson versus Pitt game for the ACC championship
Missouri number 18 SMU number Missouri number 19 SMU number 18 is interesting Missouri they found a way again last week
They were trailing Auburn and they came back in and won that one and SMU beat Stanford very impressively last week
It's interesting because I think Missouri there's a sense maybe they're underachieving because they've had so many tough games against competition
You think they should beat and then SMU I think is overachieving and they're kind of right together
And I got to tell you I think that's the general perspective I'm going to take a little different track on that
I'm saying drinking which is over-performing
You know he he's a guy that if you follow them he will say some things that I like Roberto Clemente's arm
The ball's in right field and then it seems to appear at third base like how did he make that throw
Drink with with his mouth sometimes says some things that are where did that come from
But anyway this year I think he's done his best coaching job
Because I'm with you in the sense that they're winning games by kind of with the old mirror trick
Number 17 and 16 both from the big 12 and both from the the areas with a lot of farmland
Kansas State number 17 there's six and one very impressive win last week
Rolling West Virginia 4519 and number 16 Iowa State they survived UCF
Came from behind to win 38 35 I've noticed that you've got I was a little lower than maybe some of the other rankings
We do and I think that's related to the strength of schedule they struggle with Iowa
I was proven to be kind of a miserable yes and you know BYU I'm probably undervaluating them
And they just keep winning and I can honestly talk I'm happy for him he's always like this
Polynesian guy that's always uplifting and you know and positive
We may end up because these teams do not play in a regular season
We may end up with the big 12 championship came between two undefeated teams
Number 15 is BYU just mentioned
No, no, no, it's all good because they had three year old from the big 12 K state Iowa State and BYU
They beat Oklahoma State 38 35 last week and they'll get a challenge at UCF
Who showed that they could definitely compete with that game against Iowa State the names
And number 14 Alabama my question to you for Alabama I'm a past you put your prognostication had on
At the end of the year are they going to be in the playoffs when all of a sudden done
The answer that is simple if they win the rest but do you think they're going to do that?
I think given the nature of the inconsistent play and everybody talks about Milro
I would say not so fast my friend take a harder look at that defense they have been inconsistent as well
And now the Alabama pundits you know their former stars are complaining that it's the wrong defense
They shouldn't be lined up that way we should be lined up in a more traditional four guys with their hands in the dirt
or turf for whatever it is now so I just think they've been too inconsistent on both sides of the ball to get to the playoffs
Number 13 Illinois and number 12 Indiana I tell you if you were to say to people Illinois and Indiana 13 and 12
in the national rankings at the start of the year they would have said you are out of your mind but they both earned it
Yes all they have and you know 10 we were talking about it's too bad we didn't have a crystal ball we could have went out to Vegas
and put like a grand down on that's all there in the summer I could have made a lot of money
If you would have said Indiana would be more eligible in six games in October
Yes you you would have been given a pretty good betting eyes that that would not happen
And for those two teams do you think they're both going to continue to make it that far I mean the state at the
near the top of the big 10 or do you think they're going to find out like Cinderella it's going to hit midnight at some point
Like I got to tell the way that these teams have played Indiana is more likely to do to keep winning because of the way they're winning
I mean they just come out and score points and they are stingy on defense Illinois has been good one way and then good the other
and rarely good in both instances you know the reality is in that framing of the question
I think Indiana is more likely to do it and number 11 is Clemson and really been an impressive season I think for Clemson again
When you get beat like you did in the first game against Ford and all the noise around dabble
and yet they have come back and not only been winning but they've been winning impressively
Yeah I think ESPN gives new meaning to kick the guy when he's down you know they were all all over him about the portal
And I get that I mean you look at Indiana team we just discussed 14 starters are from the portal 14
Kerr dabble has none he's never had in the portal era somebody he brought in and started
There is another side to that and you and I have talked about the loyalty he has to his players to his recruits
And then his recruits right now reciprocating saying hey you trusted us we're gonna perform so we'll see

It's been a good first season up to this point for Mike Elko
that that season opening lost to a Notre Dame but it bounced back and right now in the mix in the SEC
after beating Mississippi State but going to find out a lot more about that team today aren't you?
I got to tell you this is the game that I am most looking forward to this week
You know there's a lot of storylines with Kelly and Elko
Elko was the assistant for Kelly when he was at Notre Dame
In fact they were discussing Clark Lea
Another of Kelly's assistants who's the head coach at Vanderbilt
They have their 5 and 2 which you got to repeat because people that's a what moment
But anyway they're playing Texas today
So I've got a quasi interest in that game as well
This game is a huge game in the SEC
These are two right now of the leaders in the conference
And the game is at A&M
LSU is ranked higher in our site as well as others
And yet A&M is the favorite
Number 9 is Notre Dame
They beat Georgia Tech 31-13
They are 6-1
They do have undefeated Navy today
And Notre Dame is recovered I guess is the word from that Northern Illinois loss haven't they?
Well I don't know if you can ever recover from that
But as best they could I think you're right yet
I think they survived it
And the only thing they can do is keep winning
And not only keep winning they got to win with some space
Number 8 Texas, they were number 1 last week right?
Yeah I bumped them
That's a big drop but they they lost at home by 2 Scores to Georgia
Georgia very impressive Texas not very impressive
No you know and I was curious as to what you know Sargeason was doing when he changed quarterbacks like that
Hewers has been their guy has led them through a lot of difficulties
And to some pretty good heights
So I was a little surprised by that and wondered if that wasn't a media deal
You opened up that box it's hard to close it again right?
It really is because now they're going to get that out of them and they're going to want you know manning in
But anyway yeah I bumped them I saw Georgia win in there and you know they overcame
Carson Beck did not play well through 3 picks in that game
And yet Georgia's defense for the first time this year I thought they came out and just said
Not today this ain't happening 2 day and they took care of Texas
Can Vanderbilt do it twice in one year?
Alabama now Texas comes into Nashville
Yeah you know the reality is I don't know how you cannot cheer for them
That is with the lone exception of maybe Florida
You know that university because of what Florida does at the graduate level with the research
Vandy is the best academic institution in the southeast conference
And one of the best in the country and so while they continue to project that
They're winning football games and quite honestly you know they have good basketball program
They've been to the final four and they've won the nation in baseball
So it's a good athletic school
Then number seven is LSU as we talked about they do play a&M
And that win last week was probably their most impressive beating Arkansas by that margin
Yeah well you know Sam Pittman you worry about him because you know he struggled the last three or four years
He is an Arkansas guy and anybody when he gets a win says he's going to have a go have a cold one on national TV
I got it but I got it cheer for
Number six Ohio State they lick their wounds now they try to get back onto the treadmill against Nebraska coming up today
Yeah you know they got to stop playing pretty I mean Ohio State has a chance to carry the Big Ten banner into a national championship game
Because we've said it many times on this show their starting 22 is the best in the country
You can argue about depth with maybe Georgia Texas Alabama they're right there with them
But in terms of star power it's Ohio State but they've got to play with a little more machiso
Number five Georgia right back back into the mix again so very quickly with that win against Texas
Loved it you know they went out there and you know Kirby has got a problem down there with some of the off field nonsense that's going on
He's got to fix that and get these guys more focused on what they're doing especially on defense
Because that's his forte and Chad that's exactly what they did when they went to Texas
Number four Tennessee right back up there they had that stub toe against Arkansas
I thought frankly I mean they were shut out for much of that game and then they were able to come back and beat Alabama
They were kind of teetering there for a little bit
Yeah you know they they there's always going to be a confidence level for them with Alabama
Because Alabama or even a Florida or maybe even especially Florida has beaten Tennessee like a bad habit over the last 15-20 years
So they kind of exercise them down look bad they just kept playing and got it done so big win for hypo
Miami keeps giving up a lot of points but they keep scoring just a few more than their opponents
They're number three and again it was a shoot out in Louisville last week they ended up winning 52-45
And then that big rivalry game against Florida State was struggling
Yeah this is not the Miami of the criminal era when they were playing
My favorite one back then was when they played Iowa and they called it farmers versus felons
More so than the Catholics and convict stuff but anyway this is a Miami team that's winning different than those guys
Not with their defense this team out scores you is the kind of team that the Florida fans want
They want to win 48-46 and that's what Miami's doing they're just scoring points and winning games
Number two is Oregon again they had a shootout last Friday against Purdue and now they have Illinois at home today
Yeah you know Illinois has got to start this game fast
If they can start the game on defense get a few stops get some points get that crowd
Somewhat quiet they've got a shot in this game but I'll tell you it's a tall order
And number one Penn State at first I would say what what are you talking about but then you look at those numbers that you had in the simulator
And again I know it's just a snapshot but they have put up really good numbers
I mean and I can see where you may say okay of the undefeated teams they are the team that should be number one
Yeah you know you got to remember on some of these polls writers will vote local you know if their team is having a good year one loss or undefeated
Or the coaches conference opponents you know that they're playing them better win for them
Where we don't we just kind of look at and say I were are they and you know that winning against Illinois we're going to find out today
How good of a win that was for Penn State because Illinois has hung even within the loss to Penn State
They were right there and then they've taken care of business
I like their running backs you know Alan and Singleton I liked their quarterback and Alan and now Warren the wide receiver broke out against SC
So we'll see what he does today the badgers are up against it and let's get that signature win against the number one team in the country tonight
Got about two minutes to go we did that go through your your Heisman watch
You want to sort of give your your top Heisman trophy contenders at this point of the season?
Yeah and he's this comes from from us and then I'll go back and look to see okay I got it
All right so right now the favorite to win it is Ashton Jeannie the running back from Boise State
Last time I checked which would have been a week maybe two ago he had rushed for more yards than 109 teams in the in the FC or in the FBS
So he's our rushing teams low alone potential competition for the Heisman then Cam Ward Miami
He reminds me a lot of Jalen Daniels from LSU a year ago guy makes plays Dylan Gabriel
Now I'm not as high on him as some people are for whatever that means I just don't think he's a lead I think he's a really good player
But I never bought into some of the hype about him and then I've got a guy that nobody else mentioned
And that's Bryson daily the quarterback for Army this kid is having an unbelievable year
And you know Notre Dame is going to find another Academy quarterback in Blake Horvath who is not a really good player
So everybody is we're on board with the with the pondents are saying except for daily
I'll say that Gabriel one thing that I think a manager for him is you see what Oklahoma's done without them
Their offense is really taint and I think sometimes that sometimes when somebody leaves and then they tank that makes them look better in retrospect as well
So I think for Gabriel that's one aspect that you know I kind of noticed because Oklahoma's offense is just not good right now
Yeah and they fired your OCE a couple weeks ago they got really him so not sure where they're focused on
But yeah it's a good point Chad and a valid one
