Sully's College Football Show · Sat Oct 19, 2024

And welcome back. It is Sully's college football page on 98.9 WXCO online at bullfallsradio.com

mobile devices and Alexa by searching WXCO and on the civic media app along with Sully. I'm Chad Holmes

and every week we start off our number two by getting the brain power together. We have a little

bit of a challenge here with one of the terrific supporters of Sully's college football page.

It is the 10 game challenge. We look through ten of the top games of the week with one of your

great supporters. Yeah, our guest today is Kevin Melver, who is a certified professional

insurance agent, a certified insurance counselor and managing director of advantage and

a damn insurance services. So welcome, Kevin. Always good seeing you, Matt. Good morning, Sully

and Chad. That's great to have you in here, Kevin. And of course, before we get talking a little

bit about what you do, Kevin, Sully, I know that you wanted us again to make a big shout out to the people that

make all this possible. Yeah, without our sponsors, we're not here on Saturdays. Anyway, so I'd like to take this

time to give a big shout out to our sponsors. As a result, Kevin, of your willingness and others to partner

with Sully's college football page, we were able to reach our 2024 goal of donating $1,000

to volunteer, private and charitable institutions in our area and beyond. These donations were given to the

following. Hagerhouse wounded warriors, women's community, Newman Catholic schools, the good news project,

main all volunteer fire department, the humane society, knock MS out of the park with Central Wisconsin

School of Ballet, St. Vincent, DePaul society, the national MS society, children's miracle network,

and St. Jude's children's research hospital. So Kevin, on behalf of the services, schools,

charities, bull falls radio and Sully's college football page, we want to give a big thank you to you and to all our

sponsors for your support. So thanks, Kevin. Thanks a lot. And Kevin, let's talk a little bit about what you do with

advantage and reddant insurance before we actually get into the meat and potatoes of the games game.

Can you maybe give us a thumbnail sketch on Advantage and Reddant?

Sure. Advantage insurance and reddant insurance. We are an independent insurance agency.

What does that mean? We have dozens of different carriers. If you're looking for your personal auto insurance,

home insurance or your business insurance, we are able to help you out with that. Anywhere from a small,

if you're a business, anywhere from a small account to a large manufacturer, we have the carriers be able to do that.

We started the agency from scratch that's now 17 years ago.

So I'm just under 20 years into more than 30 years into the business, just under 20 years of doing my own game.

And right here in Wassa, the advantage location is 1500 grand avenue. I remodeled the old quick trip.

And then I also own Reddant in Reddant and Reddant has been around for 75 plus years.

Fantastic. All right. We got the preliminary's out of the way. Now it's time to go head to head.

We'll see if you're as good as the game simulator.

I can tell you're getting really annoyed by me and I'm actually very thrilled about that.

I want to get your blood flowing this early in the morning. I can tell you to say, I don't have chances.

But no, let's get into it because we have some really good games.

And in fact, I started off with probably, would you say solid the game of the day?

There's no doubt. All right. So let's do it.

SEC, Georgia and Texas. And Georgia, five and one, they're only blemish against Alabama.

And then the Texas Longhorn's undefeated ABC 230 PM and being our guest. We'll let Kevin go first.

Well, I'm thinking Sully may go against me here and everything, but I'm going to choose Texas because they're at home.

And I think the they are going to bring the the bull horns to the Georgia.

There you go. I got to tell you a funny story quickly about a friend of mine, Martha Micah,

who was the niece by the way of George Micah.

The great, the great basketball player. Minneapolis Lakers.

Yes. Yes. There you have it for those folks out there.

They were saying, what Minneapolis Lakers? There was a Minneapolis Lakers.

Yeah, that explains why you're by the ocean and call yourself the Lakers.

There you are. There you are. You like to you like to you have learning.

Oh, yeah. Let's go on. I'm sorry. She went to Southern Methodist.

And she used to say when they do them hook them horns, you know, when they got the index and little finger up.

She said that at Southern Methodist, they said that was a cross side cowboy ordering one beer.

So she told me that about 50 years ago when I got it.

I never forgot it. I can't actually I'm with you. I like Texas in this game.

They're at home. I think he was just going to step up.

You know, Carson Beck is going to bring it. I mean, there are judges in a really difficult spot.

But I like this Texas team to get this done at home.

Game number two. I just spoke of Alabama.

Who would beat the Georgia. Another massive, massive game in the SEC.

Alabama, Tennessee, both five and one and.

Sully, what do you think is going to?

You know, this game, Alabama dominates this series.

They have beaten them over the years. Pretty, pretty regularly.

In fact, they won 17 or 16 of the last 17.

I'm going to say it continues. I like Mel road to run around and make some plays.

Although Tennessee's got a guy too. Great game.

But Kevin, I'm going to go with Alabama and this one.

Well, just to go against Sully.

There you go. There you go.

I have to choose the underdog here.

I'm going to because I like I love volunteering.

So, you know, Tennessee Tennessee is a perfect fit.

I don't think Tennessee is actually an underdog in my opinion.

Because I mean, Alabama, they they almost lost two in a row.

They get very fortunate last week.

I think when I was on ESPN, I think Alabama, although we don't deal with spreads.

No, no, no. Alabama was favored by three.

We were talking earlier. I think a lot of it has to do with band bases as well with those spreads.

So again, they're trying to make money in Vegas.

So sometimes you got to take a peek at that.

Next up, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech.

Again, a really interesting match of Notre Dame and Independent.

But they play a lot of those ACC teams.

And then in this case, Georgia Tech.

Irish bounce back nicely since then, or their Illinois loss.

Georgia Tech, off to a good start at five and two.

This time, we'll start with Kevin.

To me, guys, I'm going to choose Notre Dame, the fighting Irish.

Yeah, Kevin, I'm with you. Notre Dame has dominated this series.

36 with one tie.

You know, now this game is in Atlanta.

But it is a neutral site.

They're playing at the pro stadium there.

So Georgia Tech is not playing on their home field.

Certainly the crowd is going to be reflective as they are in Atlanta.

But I'm with you, Kevin. I think Notre Dame finds a way.

Up next, we'll be Colorado and Arizona.

Big 12 match up between a former couple of former PAC 12 teams.

Game being played in Tucson.

Sully, what do you think?

I'm going to go with Dion and the fellas this game.

I think Colorado finds a way against Arizona.

New coach, they're Brent Brennan, outstanding guy.

They're a great job at San Jose.

But they've hit some hard times.

There's three in three in Colorado.

You know, you don't know about the status of Travis Hunter, though.

I don't know if he's playing because he was hurt at the end of last week.

But I still like Colorado to find a way on the road.

Hey, Kevin.

I actually agree. I think Dion got shown up by a duck in a commercial.

So he's going to come back with a little vengeance there against Arizona.

Our fifth game of the 10 is a UNLV taking on Oregon State.

And I know the PAC 12 wanted UNLV to become a new member of their little conflap.

But they said, no, we're going to stick it out at this point in the mountain west.

Game being played in Corvallis and Kevin.

What do you like?

I think the rebels are going to win this one because that's probably where all the bets are.

They certainly are.

And I got to say, the NCAA said something pretty hilarious the other day.

When they were talking about, you know, oil money with SMU and some of the Texas schools getting access to that friend IL.

But man, they were clear they did not want casino money anywhere near.

So UNLV might be financially behind the eight ball here.

But anyway, I'm with you, Kev.

Barry Odom, the coach there was at Missouri, did a great job there and then moved on.

And I'll tell you he's got UNLV the last couple of years playing at a high level.

And Kevin, let's again, take a break here at half time of our 10 game challenge.

Talk a little bit more about what you do.

Certified professional insurance agent, certified insurance counselor, managing director of advantage in redant insurance services.

Maybe talk a little bit about what you do specifically and what you do over at advantage in redant.

Well, thank you very much.

Yeah, the, especially like the designations, the certified insurance counselor, the CPIA.

That shows that the agent sticks in the extra time for education to make sure the customer is actually fully informed.

Because there's too many times the customer is choosing his or her agent just because of the price of the product.

Make sure you ask the extra questions because at the time of, you don't need to find out at the time of loss that you do not have coverage.

So make sure you ask the additional questions, do I have this?

Do I have that?

Because not all policies are the same.

It's just like a vehicle.

You cannot buy a Cadillac for the same price as a forward fusion.

Come on.

Well, maybe, maybe in the news world, I don't know.

No, no, no, I'm just talking.

Maybe if you put it in your car simulator.

I'm going away.

I'm terrible today, aren't I?

I'm just awful.

Wow, he's like.

It's heating up in here.

I didn't get much sleep last night.

So I'm a little bit on edge.

No, personal vendetta here.

It's all of a sudden.

Sorry, go on, Kevin.

The main masters, I also teach insurance and one of the main things I always teach the students in that is

don't give the carrier back door opportunity to run out of.

So what that means is make sure you have your eyes out of your teeth cross.

Understand your coverches and ask those pertinent questions.

And there are, unfortunately, there are times that you will have to pay a little bit more to get the extra coverches that you may need or want.

So once again, do understand what you have.

And I appreciate.

I want to thank everybody that is a customer for advanced insurance and red ant.

We have thousands of customers in the area.

And I would say thank you, thank you for that.

And we look forward to the next 17 plus years.

Terrific.

Let's jump right back in.

Yeah, five more games to talk about.

Game number six.

North Texas and Memphis, both teams are five and one so far this season.

And I know that local connection with Memphis, of course, will start with Sully.

Yeah, I'll tell you, this is, people don't know North Texas up here.

I'm sure.

But they're quietly having a very good year.

And we, when we talked earlier in the year, we picked Memphis to be the new year six rep.

I think they're number one ranking.

Oh, they were.

I mean, this is a very good club.

They played Navy and got beat 56 to 44.

They just couldn't, I mean, I don't know if they were just not prepared, but that triple option.

They looked lost on defense and they came.

But anyway, I'm going to go with Memphis in this game.

I think they're the better overall talent.

And I think they are now playing with their backs up against it because they know they can't lose again.

Kevin, what about you?

What do you think?

Well, we have to go for a flip coin here, choice in that.

So we're going to, I'm going to choose North Texas because Sully chose Memphis.

And that might be the smartest game you said.

There you go.

Next up, a game that obviously has local interests.

Wisconsin Badgers, who are kicking off in about 48 minutes or so against the Northwestern Wildcats.

Both teams, no.

Three good starts.

Not great starts, but decent starts.

Wisconsin, Northwestern, Kevin.

What do you think?

Well, Sully's simulator here might go against me, but I want to choose.

I like your game to the spirit here.

I'd like that.

I want to choose and be faithful to my daughter goes to Wisconsin, so we're going to choose Wisconsin.

Yeah, and I'm with you, Kevin.

I think the Badgers are going to knock Northwestern off the ball.

I think that the Badgers are starting to get an identity now.

They're kind of a little confused about what they were doing.

But the way the Walker's been playing the last couple of weeks and the way they've been running the ball.

I think they're going to get him as well, even though they're playing in a high school stadium

because of the renovations that Ryan filled.

Up next, the darling of the Sully's college football game simulator.

Miami, the national champions coming up undefeated.

They've been battling and finding ways to win.

And they travel to Louisville.

Again, this says a very interesting intriguing matchup.

Miami at Louisville.

Sully, what do you think?

I'm going to really put the damper and the simulator to rest because I like Louisville.

I think Louisville is with that front seven they have is has brings power and speed.

I think they're going to be able to slow down award.

And I think they are at the end of their slide here.

Louisville finds a way in this game and upsets Miami.

Kevin.

Well, we have to follow the simulator now.

Come on.

Oh, okay.

So I believe Miami is going to bring Helena Milton weather events along with them and cause a little disruption.

So I'm going to choose Miami.

Our ninth game.

Big 10.

Mr. Brett B.

I'm on the Illinois fighting a line eye hosting the Michigan Wolverines.

Big game of right that right below the undefeated teams in the big 10 conference.

The winner will stay within a game of first.

The loser of them be two games back.

Michigan at Illinois. Kevin.

What do you think?

Well, the history has it totally on Michigan side.

So I guess I'm going to air on that side and choose the Wolverines.

Okay.

And I'm going to say Belama is desperate for a signature win.

And even though I am flying into the wind here, the last 25 times are 26 times, brother,

that Michigan has been in urban or champagne.

They have 120, 23 times.

But I'm going to go with the Atlanta.

I'm going to say Belama gets his signature win.

And Illinois prevails against the mighty Wolverines.

There you go.

And Mick Ligoy says, my boy Brett B.

Because I'm always a Illinois fan.

Because I like B.

And I like what he did Wisconsin.

So there you go.

Oh, how was it not?

There you go.

Well, that's a few people told.

Well, I don't want to hear him.

And then finally, the 10th game and a big one in the big 10.

The surprising Indiana Hoosiers undefeated.

And then Nebraska Cornhuskers trying to bring back the glory.

And they're five and one on the season.

So Nebraska and Indiana in Bloomington.

Sully, what do you think?

I got to tell you, I like both coaches in this game.

I've always appreciated what Maddie ruled us.

And Kurt Signetti had a great run at James Madison.

And now what he's doing at Indiana is outstanding.

That said, I think today they're punching over their talent level comes to an end.

I think Nebraska controls them with their D line.

And I think, uh, right, although they're all everything quarterback gets it done.

Nebraska upsets Indiana.

Kevin, your final pick.

Well, my final pick is actually I have a little bit different history for Nebraska.

I used to work in Columbus, Nebraska.

So I'm going to go with the Nebraska, you know, for the win also.

That's 10, 10 games.

And, uh, be very interesting to see.

Uh, you got to tell us how these go.

You got to get somebody on this, you know, how is Sully going to do against his sponsors?

I'm pretty sure I don't want that.

But Kevin, again, great to have you on board for final few moments again.

Anything else you want to add about the advantage in Redant?

Yeah, sure.

Once again, we're always happy to help.

So if you open your mail, you get your next renewal.

And it's a little um, blackout there for you.

If you just want to review to make sure you have the proper coverage.

Reach out to the advantage insurance or Redant advantage.

And we're happy to help and we appreciate your business.

Thank you.

Anything you want to add?

No, Kevin, you sent me years ago down to Redant.

And I got some really good information from our Kai Cody down there.

So I have found nothing but great service when, you know, when I've been involved with you.

So thank you for that.

You're welcome, sir.

Thank you.

And I hope you got 10 out of 10.

Thanks, Kevin Malver.

It is Sully's college football page on 98.9 WXE-OP,

bullfallsradio.com,

global devices and Alexa by searching WXE.

We haven't talked about the website yet,

because we're going to talk about some rankings,

and the rankings go even deeper on the website,

but the website has so much information.

I mean, it goes into every team.

Again, how many teams do you follow on the website?

Well, just to give you an example,

the website takes about 90% of my time,

even though getting ready for the show is significant.

When we do the red zone to get it updated yet,

we have to add 3,800 bits of data into,

because we take 262 teams,

and there are seven entries on O and seven entries on D apiece.

So it's 263 times 14,

and so it comes to about 3,800.

And then we track, like I mentioned,

129 FCS, the football championship subdivision,

as well as 134 teams playing in the football bowl subdivision.

It's too much for me.

You know what I mean?

It's too much for one guy,

and so I scramble to get things done,

and don't always get every bit of it updated,

but what I don't want to be,

and I start with that the next.

But yeah, the website has been the basis for the show,

and I would say that it really adds to the quality

that we're able to bring here.

So again, check out Salt East College Football Page.com.

Again, that's Salt East College Football Page.com,

throughout the course of the week,

and get all the information really dove in,

deep in, be able to find out,

maybe some stuff you don't know.

And also, again, a lot of rankings,

because at the site, you have three different groups of rankings.

We do.

You have the FCS, you have the group of five,

and then the power four,

and let's start off with the FCS.

On the site, again, you go how many deep?

On the site.

On the site with the FCS,

we ranked the top 15.

So if you want the top 15, go to the site,

but we talk about the top five here,

and number five, it's Villanova.

Yeah, you know, that's a team out of the,

not Colonial, but Coastal Athletic Association.

You know, they don't play on the same level

as their basketball, obviously.

Right.

But they are very good on this level,

and our threat every year,

to win that Coastal Athletic Association,

no different this year to off to a great start in five and one.

I'm defeated Delaware, sixth and on.

I know that they're sort of in that twilight zone

that you've talked about this year.

Yeah, and nobody else ranks them.

You know, they are caught in limbo this year,

in that they cannot play for the conference championship

in the Coastal.

Nor can they participate in the FPS,

check, FCS tournament.

However, we've decided that we're going to give them their due,

they're playing primarily the same schedule they've always played,

and they're off to a six-and-oh start.

They just beat Maine last week,

and they've got another basketball team

that people would know from the tournament.

They're playing Richmond.

Number three, North Dakota State.

They're six-and-one on the season,

and obviously, they all have an opportunity to move up.

Yeah, and people may remember they lost their opener

to Colorado, and a great game,

really, really entertaining game.

They beat the Saluki's of Southern Illinois last week,

24-3, and this week, the biggest game of the year

in the FCS prior to the start of the playoff,

South Dakota State travels,

check, North Dakota State travels to South Dakota State,

that arguably the two best programs,

we've got to rank one in three,

but I think there's really little debate

that they are the two best programs in the FCS.

And number two, Montana State undefeated.

Right, and we've got some Montana fans here in town

who do not like the fact that we've got this Montana State team.

They did not step up like South Dakota State,

North Dakota State, and playing FBS teams,

so they're unbeaten,

and yet we've got South Dakota ranked a little higher

because of the schedule.

And number one, it is South Dakota State

in that game they have against North Dakota State

will be on the big cable ESPN 2 tonight.

Yes, you know, and so you can see that,

and I'll tell you, you get a sense of how good these teams are,

and they are very good South Dakota State

lost their opener to Oklahoma State

in a very entertaining game as well.

So these two teams, if you get a chance tonight,

you will see the best that the 63 scholarship,

because I know you are next to the simulator,

you are most unhappy with all these acronyms,

and you know, used to be Division 1 AA now.

I'm getting there though, I'm getting there,

starting to kind of steep into the thick skull of what, what, what.

All right, so anyway, really entertaining,

and it gives you a sense of the quality,

you get a chance to check that out tonight.

And also on the site, you have special rankings

for the group of five schools.

And again, you've talked about the thought that may be,

and I think it's probably getting closer and closer

as big money continues to roll into some of these colleges

that we may see a separate tournament in the end,

and you're kind of ahead of the curve here

by ranking the group of five.

Yeah, you know, and we've done that, Jeff,

for about five years,

because when you look at it,

you start to recognize that the amount

and the disparity of dollars that are available

to the Power 4 programs versus the group of five.

It's really something I think that should be considered,

and we've advocated that for years.

Gonna go in groups of two here for the top 10 in the group of five.

You got number 10 at North Texas,

so five and one on the campaign at a thriller,

beating the Florida Atlantic last week,

and number nine, Louisiana,

and they beat the App State last week.

Yeah, and that's the Florida's coach,

that's building the Pierce Old Team, Louisiana.

They're in the sunbelt,

and North Texas is in the America,

so they're in two different leagues,

and yet both these teams can line up

and would not be embarrassed

against some of the better teams in the group before.

Got number eight, James Madison.

They beat Coastal Carolina last week,

and then Louisiana Monroe at number seven,

and they knocked off by 17 points, Southern Miss.

And Louisiana Monroe upset James Madison

a week ago, 2119.

And so both these teams have performed very well this year.

I got to tell you, Louisiana Monroe is surprised,

because typically they're at the bottom of the sunbelt.

Not this year, they've been playing at a pretty high level,

and as a result, we got them at seven.

And Alicia, you have some real common sense.

If you beat a team, you should be ahead of that team, right?

Obviously, when it comes to the AP and the coaches,

Bob, I'm the minority of thinking here.

But yes, if you go, it makes sense.

Exactly.

Number six, Memphis,

he's defense got back onto the ring.

They did.

Three points allowed in a win over South Florida.

And number five is UNLV,

and they put a 50 in a win over Utah State.

Right, and UNLV has a big game today against Oregon State.

So we still count Oregon State

and Washington State is part of the power for.

We still do that.

When you look at Phil Steele and some of the other magazines,

they kind of got him in limbo.

We count them in Notre Dame.

So when we look at the power five, or check the power four,

we have 70 teams, Chad.

Anyway, Barry Odom has done a great job at UNLV,

and I look for them to get Oregon State tonight.

And I know you're very happy to see the three and four teams

doing so very well.

Both Army and Navy.

Army number four, they're perfect.

Six and O, and they roughed up UAB 44-10 last week.

And Navy, also undefeated.

They were on a buy last week before playing Charlotte this week.

But I know this, you'll love what this could all mean

as we get towards December.

Well, how about this?

You and I started talking about this about three weeks ago.

When we said, how great would it be for Army?

Army to play Navy for the championship

of the American Conference on Pearl Harbor Day.

Because they'd be playing on December 7th.

And then better yet, the following week,

we would get that game again.

We would get the Army Navy game,

the traditional Army Navy game,

which is always played in the second Saturday in December.

Number two is Liberty.

They barely got passed FIU last week in O.T.

Yeah, the quarterback broke a run in overtime

and wanted, except there was a hold.

So they brought it back and you thought,

okay, FIU is still in this.

Well, then the very next play, he broke another run.

This time he ran 10 yards further and scored.

So you're right, Liberty was up against it

and yet they found a way to get this done.

And for the last few weeks, number one again is Boise State.

Yeah, they haven't lost a game since that Oregon game.

Which they almost won.

Yeah, you know, and you can argue,

they were winning a game in the fourth quarter.

So really good team.

And I think at this point,

I don't think anybody disputes that Boise State

is the best team in the group of five

and will be things go according to oil.

They will be the New Year six rep.

Again, those are the rankings both in the group of five

and the FCS.

And again, you can get even deeper into those rankings

by going to sullicecollegefootballpage.com.

Coming up next, we'll talk about the top 25 in the power four.

And again, we're getting deeper and deeper into the season,

starting to see the cream rise to the top.

So we'll talk about that.

We'll go from 25 to 11 in our next segment.

Here on sullicecollegefootballpage, 98.9 WXCO.

We talked about the top 25 when it comes to the power four,

yep, so these college football page dot com does separate rankings for the Power Four.

And let's start at number 25.

It is Washington State and they had a big win at Fresno last week.

Yeah they beat Fresno, which keeps them going, they're five and one.

And they've got, you know, Hawaii at home this weekend and the CW network,

I know you've come in on that before, Washington 19 and a half point favor,

should have should be able to get this done.

Number 24, Oak the home, it was a rough one.

The big rivalry game at the Texas State Fair at the cotton bowl last week against

the Longhorns fell to the number one ranked team 34 to three.

So OU down to number 24.

They're only two losses against really good football teams 10 to see in Texas.

And they take on South Carolina in an SEC matchup later today.

Who had every chance to beat Alabama last week slipped away 27 25.

And so Oklahoma needs to be careful in this game,

because Beamer has to steam plan.

Well, the thing is, I mean, we could be talking about South Carolina probably in the top 12 in the country

if they would have held on against LSU and held on against Alabama.

I mean, again, we talked about it earlier.

There's like a handful of plays that can make a team either a fantastic season

or a middling season.

Yeah, you mentioned three plays and could result in a swing from, you know,

two and five to five and two.

So big difference.

Ole Miss, number 23.

And what was looking like maybe a magical season for Lane Kippin has gone the other way

but two very tough losses the last two weeks.

And last week they fell to LSU and OT.

Yeah, you know, Lane has done himself no favors by faking injuries.

He's got guys falling down all over the field.

And there was one scene you could see him yelling,

pushing his hand down.

And the kid was like looking squinting and then realized and then he fell down.

That's cheating, isn't it?

Yeah, it is.

It is unbecoming what college football and college athletics in general should be.

And I know people now get caught up in the money and so you got to win.

No.

No, it's not.

Northmanship still matters.

Yes, it does.

And you know, when he does stuff like that, he's got a great quarterback.

And you know, I like Dirt.

But I'll tell you, when I see that stuff and Dirt was actually,

he likes to pick the kid in the shoulder like, you know, it's just a bad look.

Number 22, Arizona State.

And this always felt like it should be a good progen.

They've had their ups, some time to time back in the day, John Cooper got him to the Rose Bowl.

And then they would go down.

And we'll ask you about what a wonderful place to go at Arizona State.

And all the pretty girls that are down there and everything else.

And they look like they're starting to put it together this year.

You know, they are the second largest undergrad.

And maybe the largest university when you consider graduate school in the country.

So they, a lot of people attend their central Florida is the largest undergrad.

But anyway, this team, like at sister school or is Arizona, are always athletic.

And you always see speed when you watch them play to your point when they can play in the trenches,

when they can play in the meathouse, then watch out for them.

Because they're, if they can stay with you inside, they certainly can cause problems outside.

Pittsburgh number 21 still undefeated.

They keep finding ways. It's not always pretty.

17, 15 against Cal last week, but they're still undefeated.

And you know, I got to tell you, Pat Narduzi is one of my favorite guys to listen to after a game.

He's always got something that's kind of wise tailed to say.

And he's always kind of, you know, gruff.

But I'll tell you, his team this year, they are playing at a high level.

One, some close games, and they're sitting here at six and oh, and we finally ranked them.

We've been probably negligent in that regard.

Number 20 Nebraska. I know you've talked about Matt rule.

And you felt like this was a team to watch this year.

And they got a big opportunity today to move up.

Yeah, I like him in this game, although I got to tell you, I'm thrilled what Indiana's done.

So I'm going to watch this game very neutral with a neutral perspective.

But, um, yeah, many rule done a good job.

They lost that Illinois game, which they easily could have run.

Could have won.

And so you were, we're a playaway like you like to save from undefeated battle here today.

Yeah, but Illinois at number 19.

I said earlier, I am a fan of bill amount of fan.

I'd like to see Illinois actually do pretty well.

But I would have dropped them after last week because I thought that wasn't embarrassing.

Against a Purdue team that's been so bad this season to have that game almost slip away and give away.

You know, about 46 points and a half plus over times.

You know, and I don't, I don't disagree with that.

I'm going to go back though to the point you were making when I was yelling about Ryan Debian 1 and 7.

And you started talking about the details and what actually had occurred.

And, you know, in this game, Ryan Walters, if there's one game he's the coach at Purdue.

He was the assistant decordinator at Illinois.

He gets up for this game.

And this is the third year in a row.

They won the first two.

And man, they came roaring back 46 points in the second half and over time.

And almost got it done.

Then you have had number 18, SMU.

The pointy express is back.

And SMU doing very well, five and one.

And they're back from the death penalty, which they got all those years ago.

The only lost this team has is 18 to 15 to another team that's kind of flexing its muscles in the big twa.

No, excuse me.

They're in the ACC.

That would be right here in a minute.

But their only loss is to a big 12 BYU team.

Great game.

I started a game.

18, 15.

So SMU playing at a very high level.

Then you have number 17, Texas Tech.

I tell you, they're a little under the radar.

And I know you're also a big fan of their coach.

Oh, yeah, Joey McGuire done good work.

You know, their loss.

I want to say did BYU beat them and have to double check.

But they lost a game and you thought, uh, maybe Joey's not going to get it.

Then they've won like four in a row.

And this team is playing at a very, very high level.

Number 16, Kansas State boy.

They had a thriller against Colorado last week, one on the road.

31, 28.

So still just at one loss against a BYU.

And they have a pretty tough road matchup at West Virginia.

Yeah, you know, uh, this team, they build their team.

And a lot of people don't know this.

But if you follow them with junior college recruits,

they are probably the number one power for a program that relies on junior colleges.

They go get these guys.

And I have to tell you, sometimes they're undervalued because they're not kids coming out of high school.

They're kids that have been in junior college for two years.

And we all know those kids change.

And so, uh, this program, you always have to be mindful of that you, you know,

you really don't know what you don't know, especially with them.

Iowa State.

And another guy that you are very high on is Coach Campbell at ISU.

Still undefeated after beating West Virginia last week.

Yeah, you know, you got to tip your head to this guy.

He stays, of course.

He has struggled in that Iowa series.

You know, I think they've played maybe nine times and he's won twice.

And I have never heard that guy say a disparaging thing after a lost Iowa,

which is they're superbowl, you know, trying to beat the hearts.

And high quality guy.

And you always like to see him do well.

And how about those BYU Cougars?

Number 14, a big week.

They beat a good Arizona team last Saturday.

And then last night beat your, uh, your buddies over at Oklahoma State in a thriller.

Yeah, I don't even talk about guns anymore.

They struggled this year.

What have they played on Friday?

Do you now have them in those 10 games?

Yeah.

You know, uh, that's, uh, Kelani Sataki is the coach there.

He played at BYU.

Really likeable fellow.

And you're always happy to see him do well.

And I'll tell you, they are playing with a great deal of physicality.

And the thing about them, they're average ages is about 21, 3 months.

High school, excuse me.

Most colleges are about 19, 8 months as they're average age.

So there are, there are almost two years on average older.

Number 13, Indiana, still working their way up.

How about Kurt Signetti, you know, and I know we sometimes cringe at the transfer portal.

Uh, this guy has, this is, this is like we said earlier.

This is the new Indiana because they've got 14 guys starting that weren't in the program a year ago.

So quite different.

And then Signetti, everywhere he's been at the college level, never experienced a losing record.

And they'd have to lose the final six and get beaten up all to have a losing record.

So he's going to do it as well.

And number 12 Notre Dame and they've really picked it up.

Have a thing.

Well, you know Notre Dame got horrible news this week when Benjamin Morris and their all American cornerback.

He has played his last game for Notre Dame.

He will be a first round or high second round pick.

And he's gone.

That's the fifth starter that Notre Dame has gone down.

And they recruit while they have depth.

But when you start losing these kind of guys, it's tough.

You're going to see this come into effect later in the season when they line up against a team like SC

when they've got all those receivers in a really good quarterback.

I think today they should be okay, although Georgia Tech has some good receivers.

They're really more about running the ball.

And number 11 LSU after that tough loss in the opener against SC.

Brian Kelly is found ways.

I mean, that South Carolina game they found a way last week, Ole Miss.

They found a way in all of a sudden they're five and one.

Well, the one thing, you know, I've been a Notre Dame fan.

I'm aware of Kelly.

And the one thing about him is he knows how to win.

You know, he finds ways to win.

That year he went four and eight.

He threw everybody but his mother under the bus, you know.

He blamed everybody but looking in the mirror.

That said, maybe last week or maybe when they opened the season and they played SC,

he thought he was still at Notre Dame because he has lost SC as the Notre Dame head coach on more than one occasion.

But I'm with you.

This team just keeps on winning in a week or two.

They're going to be playing A&M and I am very much looking forward to that.

And actually tonight's going to be a very interesting game at Arkansas,

who'll be Tennessee at home last week.

You know, and that's Sam Pittman and that's one of the nicest people that you...

He's always going to go get a cold one after you.

So you got to like...

Coming up, we're going to have the top ten.

Yep, the top ten coming up as we have our final segment leading up to kick off.

Again, Badgers and Northwestern coming up after 11 o'clock.

So we'll get you ready for all the action coming up.

That's all these college football page 98.9 WXCO.

And welcome back, Sully's College Football Page, 98.9 WXC Alt.

Time for the top 10, the top 10 from Sully's College Football Page,

in the power for number 10.

I've cracked it.

I think this is for the first time Texas A&M.

It is. This is the first time we've got them there.

Five and one.

They got Mississippi.

This week, I know they call that the maroon game,

because there's a lot of maroon in the field.

You know, and they're coming off a buy week.

Mississippi State is struggling a little bit this year,

although they did score 31 on Georgia last week.

Yes, they did.

They played very well against Georgia last week.

Number 9, Clevver.

I think they did.

They did.

They did.

They did.

They played very well against Georgia last week.

Number 9, Clevver.

They did.

They played very well against Georgia last week.

Number 9, Clevver.

Again, they won five games in or after a tough opener against Georgia,

and they beat Week 4th, 49-19.

So, really good bounce back here after all that criticism

of a dabble back after a week one.

Yeah, you know, Clubernick, their quarterback is starting to play

at a pretty high level.

And more so than that, playing with a lot of consistency.

And I think that the criticism that was aimed at dabble,

those guys that are in the program recognized that, you know,

that dabble is supporting a supporter of them.

And I think they're trying to reciprocate

because whatever they're doing, man, these kids are focused on

and are getting it done.

Tennessee number 8.

Boy, they lost such a great start and they had that loss

against Arkansas.

And then they just barely beat Florida.

And over time last week, at home,

what's your take on Tennessee?

Still number 8.

I think Tennessee was lucky that Mertz got injured

because I think if Mertz would have finished that game,

I'm pretty confident Florida would have beat them.

And so, Tennessee is now under the gun.

You know, it's not like they're trying to climb the mountain.

People are trying to knock them off the mountain.

Nobody's looking anyway, but Square Adam.

Today, a huge, huge game.

In Tennessee, they said they say,

it's the third week in October.

And that means BAM a week.

And so, anybody in Tennessee that says that,

they know what that means.

Big, big game for them today.

Number 7, Ohio State after that one-point loss

at Oregon last week.

You know, we were talking off here about Michigan

not playing a Power 5 program.

Those couple years, they did not lose a regular season game.

Should have never lost a TCU.

But anyway, got beaten that first playoff from then wanted.

Ohio State did the same thing.

But you cannot lose if you're not going to play

anybody in the non-conference of a Power 5 status.

So, I dropped them behind both Georgia and Alabama,

or Alabama and Georgia because of their non-conference schedule.

Speaking of the Georgia Bulldogs, number 6, 5 and 1.

Again, that game against Mississippi State last week

was a little bit odd.

You don't expect them to give up 31 against an MSU team

that's been struggling quite a bit.

Yeah, and Kirby thought he was playing defensive back again

because he smacked in their quarterback.

Yeah, so, you know, Georgia's struggling.

They are struggling, you know.

They've had close to 20 arrests down there.

Off the field, there's been way too many distractions.

And no matter who you are, Kirby or anyone else.

That kind of stuff wears on you, you know.

And he seemed very emotional on the sideline.

And I got to think some of that is coming from the disappointment

he's getting from his players.

Number 5, you have Alabama.

Alabama, number 5, and boy, they beat Georgia though.

So, they almost lost two games in a row.

Yeah, well, you know, the board, when they hired him,

they know he plays like a 3-3-5.

And now all the Alabama folks are coming out of the woods

and saying, nobody believes in that defense.

We should never be playing that defense.

It was amazing.

The Alabama fan base jump and ship.

He beat Georgia and they were on top of the world.

This guy was the second coming.

Then they get beat the next week by Van.

He a week later, they're all questioned whether he's the guy or not.

Then they go to South Carolina.

And struggle in winning that game, 27-25.

Look, it's all on the line today.

We'll see what happens in this game.

Miami's still undefeated.

They just barely won the last couple of games.

They had a buy last week and another tough one against Louisville tonight.

You know, this is going to be the game where Tam Ward can kind of do

with Jalen Daniels, did a year ago when he won the Heisman and LSU.

He plays like him.

You know, he runs all over the place.

He keeps his eyes down the field.

He does a good job of extending before he escapes.

He's going to be up against it today because they're in with the team Louisville.

That absolutely can run with them.

And you know, Louisville has won for the last six times these teams have played.

Then you have Oregon, number three.

And again, that was just a massive win.

I mean, Oregon this year, it's been an interesting year.

They've had some blowouts, but they've had about three really tight games.

And they've been able to find ways in each of those games, including that 32-31 game

last week against OSU.

Yeah, they struggled against Idaho.

In the first game of the year, they were winning 17-14.

I couldn't believe it in the fourth quarter.

Then they were down the boys.

Since then, Chad, they've been more kind of who we thought they would be.

You know, like the Nords of Dennis Green.

And so they, in fact, last week really, really stepped up

and won a huge game against the Bucks.

The number two, you do have Penn State.

And you're saying you're getting some race.

I browse why Penn State is all the way up to number two.

Why is Penn State all the way up to number two?

Yeah, you know, my son was on me about this.

He said, nobody else does it.

I said, well, you know, they got Georgia in front of Alabama too, you know.

So nobody's perfect.

But anyway, you know, when you look at the resume of Penn State,

when they played West Virginia first game,

West Virginia was highly thought of ranked.

They West Virginia mentality was, we're really good.

We can get this done.

They handled them.

They gave the Alina either only loss of the year.

And then they played what I thought was as good a game.

And the most quality game.

Both teams against that sea last week.

That was really enjoyable to watch.

So I'd like to resume a little better than Ork.

And the number one team in the country is the Texas Long Horns.

And you have to say that was a very impressive win last week against Ork.

Yeah, you know, I mean, they took a tomb.

That's the identical score that Georgia beat Clemson by if you're into

the weird things.

The reality here is this game today.

Georgia, this is the first time in like 70 games

that Georgia's not the favorite.

It was some some outrageous number like that.

So very much the game of the day,

although I'll say that Alabama Tennessee game is not far behind.

But this is much see if you're must see if you're into college football.

All right, that is the game.

Texas and Georgia.

I would say and Georgia's had so much success outside of the Alabama game.

Yes.

That's Georgia go in the Austin only in that football game.

Well, you know, I think if you're Georgia,

you have circled the wagons this week.

You realize you are now up against it.

These teams have played five times.

Texas has won four.

The last time they played was like in the cotton bowl in 2019.

And in fact, Georgia won or Texas won that game

when they weren't supposed to win.

So they've kind of had their way with Georgia.

I think for a lot of things are motivating this Georgia team.

They are in a situation where they have to find a way today.

And if they do, we mentioned earlier,

this will be the first time since 2007,

mid-Actober, no undefeated SEC teams.

Well, we're going to have another massive Saturday starting

in just moments with the 11 o'clock kickoffs.

I know you'll be watching a lot of football.

Enjoy.

We got to go badges.

There you go.

That's Dan Sullivan-Sully.
