Sully's College Football Show · Sat Oct 12, 2024

And welcome back, it's Sully's College Football Page on 98.9 wxco, both fallsradio.com,

mobile devices, and Alexa by searching wxco and on the Civic Media app.

Along with Sully, I'm Chad Holmes and we always start off just after 10 o'clock, here on

the program with the 10 game challenge.

And so you always bring on somebody that is a great supporter.

And number one of the program and number two of the of the page.

And we haven't read again, folks need to check out the website just as much as

tune into the radio show, Sully's College Football Page.com and it can't be done

without your supporters.

Yeah, you know, and webco, dining trips over there and then, you know,

Maddie, the last few years have been great to work with, always have been

a supporter of Sully's College Football Page.

And, you know, as a result, we try to do business with them for paraphernalia.

And I got to tell you, Maddie does a great job with that.

We get things in a timely manner and the orders are always on, right on pace and

accurate in terms of time delivery and quality.

And today our guest for the 10 game challenge is Matt Flowers, store manager extraordinaire

at Webcole of Wassa.

Matt, welcome to the program.

Thanks for the enemy.

It's great to be back.

Absolutely.

And I know before we start talking with Matt, you always want to make sure that you give

us shout out to everybody that's helping us.

Yeah, you know, our sponsors are great.

And we always try to give them a big shout out.

Matt, to you and to Donnie and the good work you guys do into all our sponsors.

And as a result of your willingness to partner with Sully's College Football Page, we are able,

we were able to reach our 2024 goal of donating $1,000 to volunteer private and charitable

institutions in our area and beyond.

These donations were given to the following.

The Hager House wounded warriors, the women's community, Newman Catholic schools, the Good

News Project, main all volunteer fire department, the Humane Society, NAC, MS out of the park,

central Wisconsin School of Ballet, St. Vincent de Paul's Society, the National MS Society,

Children's Miracle Network, and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

So on behalf of those services, Matt, the charities, the schools, both falls ready on Sully's

College Football Page, a big shout out to you and to all our sponsors for making these

donations possible.

So thank you, Matt.

And Matt, before we actually jump into these 10 games, or you go up against Sully and

try to knock the man off his pedestal, tell us a little bit about WebCoV-Wasa.

are open from 830 until 5PM Monday through Friday.

Fantastic.

We'll learn more about WebCo in a few minutes, but let's get into the games and so many great

games to choose from for the 10 game challenge here today, and we'll start off with one

of the great rivalry games being played down in Dallas at the Texas State Fair, at the

Cotton Bowl, Texas, and Oklahoma, and used for many years, it was always a great non-conference

game.

Now it's a great conference matchup between the Long Horns and the Sooners, 5-0 Texas,

4-0 Oklahoma, and we'll start off with that.

Well, I've got to give it to your head-to-head simulator on your website.

This one really helped me out.

For this game, I've got Texas over Oklahoma.

You know, man, I would have to agree with you on Texas.

They lead this series over, you know, this is 120th time, these teams have kicked it off.

Texas lead 63-51-6, and 9 of the last 11, which makes it difficult to pick and have been

decided by 8 or fewer points.

So I'm with you.

The Horns get this done today.

Up next, a big one in the big 10.

Penn State still undefeated.

USC started off great with the win against Dallas.

You lost the Michigan now, lost the Minnesota game is played at the Coliseum.

We'll start with Saltley.

Yeah, hey, I got to tell you, this game, you know, as one looks at the records you're

thinking of, Penn State, I don't think so.

I think, as see, this is a desperate game for them.

They're at home.

I think Penn State, while 5-0 has had some struggles, I think today, as see, get some.

They actually have won the last three against the Lions, and I think I see upset some today.

Matt, what about you?

What do you think?

No, I'm right there with Saltley.

I've got SC there for that one too.

I think it's going to be a good chance for an underdog situation with that game.

Up next, an ACC matchup, Louisville against Virginia, and Virginia, a little under the

radar, having a good start to this season, and Matt, what do you think?

Right now, I got to go off to those head-to-head numbers, so I got Louisville for this one.

Okay, and I am thinking Virginia gets this one done today.

Louisville's struggling a little bit.

Virginia's 4-1, they had one slip earlier in the year against Maryland, but since then,

they have played at a pretty high level.

So I'm thinking at home, Maryland gets, or excuse me, Virginia gets the 5-1.

Up next, always a big matchup in the SEC.

One program has been getting a lot of heat.

The other has been on the upswing Florida against Tennessee.

Florida's 3-2.

You think they were 0-5 the way people are talking, but not an easy matchup going into

Neal and Stadium.

And Saltley, what do you think?

Well, first of all, that Florida fan base may be the nuttiest, most psycho fan base.

They would rather lose a game 71 to 70 than win 1-16 to 15.

They have one, and the last 19 times these teams have met, Florida has one, 17 of them.

But not today.

If the game were somewhere else, if it was in Gainesville, Tennessee is kind of reeling

from their loss.

Tennessee gets this done.

And Matt.

Well, I'm right there with you.

With this rivalry crash, Clash, I think Tennessee is going to take this one.

Over Florida.

As long as they start off strong on the offense, I think they're going to keep this one

as a win.

Up next, couple of interesting teams so far this season, California and Pittsburgh, Cal.

Mad.

I mean, they're two losses.

We're both games they could have won.

They lost at Florida State, and then they let one get away at home against Miami last

week, as you said, a 25-point lead, 3-2.

And Pittsburgh.

I think one of the surprise teams, they had struggled big time a year ago, and they're

off to a 5-0 start after winning in North Carolina last week.

Matt, what do you think?

I see pit-ticking this one, sticking with their 5-0 record, they're going to add one

more onto this guy.

Yeah, you know, I don't like to travel.

You know, Cal's got to fly all the way across the country.

And you know, with the pros, it's one thing.

College kids, you know, you're not quite sure yet what to travel with all this realignment

is going to actually mean.

So I'm with Matt.

I think Pat Narduzzi, who's one of my favorite coaches to listen to after games, he's always

got something good to say.

I think Pit gets his done.

Again, our guest today for the 10-game challenge is Matt Floubert, store manager, extraordinaire

at Webcole of Wasa.

And again, Matt, before we get back into the final half of the 10-game challenge, anything

else you want to add about Webcole?

Yeah, as I said, before we handle anywhere from small custom orders to outfitting your

entire company with embroidered uniforms, not only do we handle screen-pritching embroidery,

so we can also help you stand out with unique promotional items.

And to make life easier, we offer personal online stories so no one gets headaches collecting

orders yourself.

Our work is all about quality, affordability, and getting your orders done fast.

You may have already seen our creations at local events or shops.

at webco.com.

You can also stop by our shop at 1405 West Thomas Street here in Wasa.

We're open anytime from 8.30 until 5pm on day through Friday.

Terrific.

Let's get back into it.

Game number six of the 10-game challenge is an old physical matchup in the Big Ten conference.

Washington and Iowa, the Huskies going to Kinnick, we'll start off with Solviz.

Yeah, hey, there's nothing pretty to add about these offences, man.

We're going to line up and try to knock you off the ball and last week, Michigan went

after Washington and decided they were going to knock him in the next week, not so fast,

my friend.

I like Washington to prevail in this game.

Even though I was at home, I think Washington gets this done.

And Matt, what about you?

What do you think?

I'm right there with Washington taking this one.

Next, Iowa State still undefeated.

I know Solviz proponent of Coach Campbell over at ISCO and they travel to Morgantown, take

on the West Virginia mountaineers, 5-0 Iowa State, 3-2 West Virginia, and this time we

start with Matt.

I think Iowa's been having a really strong defense this year and I think they're going

to hold the score in their favor, so I'm going to take Iowa State.

Okay, and I'm going to separate here respectfully on this one, Maddie.

I'm going to go with Neal Brown.

West Virginia has been playing at a pretty high level.

They lost a pit in a close game and they also lost a Penn State, so their losses have

been against pretty quality two undefeated teams.

So I'm going to say West Virginia at home gets pit or gets Iowa State their first loss.

Up next will be a very interesting big 12 matchup.

You got Arizona, 3-2, but starting, I think the rollback in the formula, a big win

against Utah, and then BYU undefeated.

They are jumping into the big 12 with a flourish.

So Arizona in Provo against BYU, slowly, you're up first.

You know, I BYU is 5-0, but I do think that's slightly inflated.

The one win that they have that really is kind of, you know, an outlier, is they hammer

Kansas State 38-9.

But I like Arizona.

Arizona is going to bring a lot of speed into this game.

And I think Arizona is going to end BYU's 5-0 run here.

Matt?

I've got BYU for this one.

I think Arizona's had good games.

They've had bad games and they've had some pretty terrible games with BYU's kind of

more stable performance.

I'm going to stick with BYU.

Up next, massive game in the South Eastern Conference.

Both teams hoping to make the playoff, but it gets a lot harder with a loss.

You got Ole Miss and LSU being played down in Death Valley and Matt, you get to pick

this one first.

So I got to go back to those numbers from your website.

I got Ole Miss on this one.

Okay.

And you know, the only reason I hesitate to go with LSU is it's a 230 kickoff.

If that crowd had a chance to get where they normally get with their beverages, the stadium

would be absolutely out of control.

But I still like LSU at home, I think that they're going to be able to do enough offensively

and create problems for Jackson, Darden, that offense.

And Kiffin has got to stop faking guys falling down, which he had 10 instances of that.

So hopefully the SEC had a conversation with him.

And you have to always drop in the name Jackson, Darden, every time you talk about Ole Miss,

because you just love saying his name, don't you?

Yeah, well the guy throws dirt, you know what I mean?

So he is really a good player and somebody I enjoy watching.

And finally, the 10th game is probably the number one game in the country this week.

Ohio State at Oregon, undefeated, undefeated, both teams knocking on the door at the top five

in the country.

Both teams have national championship aspirations, just a massive, massive game.

And we're going to give the massive, massive game first pick to the man with the name on

the show of Sully.

I'm going to, this should be a great game.

Ohio State has one nine in the last 10, but the last time they hooked up, Oregon beat

him.

I am saying that based on the eye test of what I've seen, because neither team has played

what I would say is a stellar schedule.

I'm going to say Ohio State gets this done and wins this game, you know, somewhere between

seven and ten points, but they're going to get it done.

Matt, what about you?

Who do you like in this one?

I'm right there with you.

I got Ohio State for this one.

Alrighty.

So 10 very interesting matchups.

And we'll see whether or not Matt is able to knock Sully off the perch here in the 10 game

challenge.

Matt, before we wrap it up, any final thoughts, you know, either on the game or on

Webco itself.

Yeah.

Just reiterate, if you need custom apparel, Webco is a place for you to call.

You can always stop by at 14.05 West Thomas Street and we're open from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00

p.m.

Monday through Friday.

Fantastic.

And I got to say, man, we'd be one of those small orders you're talking about, right?

And we, you know, I would reiterate what Matt just said, everything is done right.

Everything is on time and you've been great partner to work with for the show.

Matt Flowers, thank you for coming on in and best of luck in getting all those games

correct.

Thank you very much.

It was great to be here.

Absolutely.

So Matt Flowers, again, store manager, Webco a boss, I'm looking to come back and start

into the rankings.

We'll start off with the FCS and G5 rankings coming up next on Southeast College Football

Page on 98.9 WXCO.

This is Saltley's College Football Page on 98.9 WXEO.

Both fallsradio.com, mobile devices, and Alexa by searching WXEO.

And on the Civic Media app, we are here every Saturday morning from 9 to 11 leading up

to kick off.

And against kick off at 11 a.m., a number of games around the country, then you can basically

be in front of your tube watching until sometime after midnight.

The lots of great college football action going on.

And last week, with all the specials about the Marine Corps taking on Air Force last week,

did not go through the FCS and G5 rankings.

They were still on the website, of course.

But now we get a chance to kind of reset where we stand in both these divisions and starting

with the FCS.

I was going to say we're going to start off at number five with Villanova.

Yeah, there you have it.

You know, and on the website, we rank the top 15 FCS programs.

And the top 20 group of five programs, and then, of course, we do our top 25.

So we give a little taste here.

So if you want to get a taste of them, if you want to learn a little bit more, it's always

great to go to studiescollegefootballpage.com, but FCS, Villanova, number five.

Yeah, you know, Villanova is a team out of the Coastal Athletic Association.

There are one losses to a power five team.

And so our power four, I should say.

So they're coming in five and one, and they are right now the favor to win the Colonial

Athletic Association and lead in them to the playoffs.

I like the name Colonial Better than Coastal.

Did I say Colonial better than that?

You said, you said Coastal first, and then you said Colonial better than that.

And that made me happy, actually, because that's a bet.

I like the name Colonial better.

I don't know.

I'm a history guy, I guess.

So it's like, you think about the Colonial era.

You know, they thought that since they had now expanded outside the North.

But you know what?

I mean, I didn't see there's big 10 chance there's 18 teams in the big 10.

Yeah.

I know.

And there's teams on the West Coast and the Atlantic Coast Conference.

So I mean, they just mean nothing anymore, but they're, yeah, they're just how they market

themselves.

Yeah.

Number four, the blue hands of Delaware.

Now we're the only ones to rank them because they are, you make them just because you're

helmets, right?

Yeah.

We like their helmets.

I think Michigan is morally obligated to schedule them.

Their helmets are a little different in the color blue, but otherwise it's that wing

to look Delaware.

So this year is playing as an independent.

It's not eligible for the Coastal Athletic Association Championship, nor are they eligible

to play in the FCS tournament, however, we rank them because for all intent and purposes

of the factor, they are in FCS and we've got them at five and oh, and they're playing

at a high level.

Number three, North Dakota State.

They're always around.

Yeah.

And they, I'll tell you, they got Southern Illinois this week.

Their loan loss is to Colorado.

You, I'm sure you remember the games, great game, and you know, that's it for them.

And I'll tell you right now, we got them third, but the I test, they're playing every bit

as well, as is the two teams, as are the two teams of, you know, ranked in front of

them.

Montana State.

Number two.

And they've got Idaho this week, they're six and oh, big sky team, a big sky rival.

And if you remember Idaho played Oregon to a three point, fourth quarter deficit.

So this is going to be, you know, a team that could challenge this Montana undefeated

season here.

And number one, South Dakota State.

Yeah, you know, they've got the loss to Oklahoma State, good competitive game, and we have

them at number one based on the fact of how they have looked this year and they look

awful good again.

Group of five top 10.

And again, as Saul said, you can get the top 20 if you go to the website, sullicecollegefootballpage.com.

But at number 10, the thunder ain't heard of Marshall after a rather entertaining winning

against App State.

Yeah, there are two losses are against power for programs, somewhat competitive games.

And I'll tell you, they've looked better the last couple of weeks and they took it to

App State last week, 52, 37, they app, State Appalachian State simply could not stop them.

Number nine, the dukes of James Madison.

This team continues to play well, you know, Kurt Signetti left, took some players with

him, went to India.

Some players, they took a lot of players, there was a big bus full of players that were

leaving town.

Yeah, they were coming to the limo, they needed a bus.

Anyway, James Madison, four and one, they did play coastal Carolina team who has been

playing better of recent.

And I thought that was going to be a very tight game.

It was not, they beat coastal Carolina last night, 39 and seven to Lane, again, even with

Willie Fritz leaving, they're still among the top 10 at number eight at four and two.

And the scoreboard operator was working overtime in their last game, 71 points against

the UAV.

Yeah, I think they were a little frustrated with some of the things that have happened.

And so the green wave came out and really took it to, to UAV.

Memphis number seven, still trying to get over that, that lost to Navy.

Yeah, you know, and that's, that's one of the great stories as fire and college football,

Army and Navy, what they've been able to do.

We had Memphis as, as you know, as our group of five, New Year's six day rep and would

be the team making the playoff.

That now is in jeopardy with that lost to Navy, they've got to yet play two lane.

So Memphis is going to have to downshift there.

And they take a track to South Florida, which is never easy coming up today, right?

Yeah, yeah, you know, South Florida, as you know, very athletic.

Sometimes they border on brain dead with what they do, but nonetheless, they are really

a good club.

Toledo from the Mac, four and one after a win against Miami.

It's the one team in the Mac that can run.

Now they got Buffalo and, you know, after Northern Illinois beat the Irish, they went to Buffalo

and got beat two weeks later.

So I think Toledo really needs to focus in on this game and keep their Mac hopes alive.

It's been a great year for UNLV, they got off to a 4-0, started then lost a heartbreaker

to Syracuse in double overtime, their first loss of the season, but still a program that

looks beyond the upswing under Barry Odom.

And they, they played Utah State last night and pounded them.

So they are now at five and one.

And this looks like somebody who's going to challenge Boise in the Mountain West.

Army number four, undefeated and it's rolling over the golden hurricane of Tulsa.

Boy, again, just what Jeff Monkin has done that, Army has been so very impressive.

Yeah, well, he's a Joliet guy.

I don't know if you knew that his dad was, when I was in high school, his dad was the

coach at Joliet.

He's, he's a lot younger than I, so I never knew him, but I know guys who do, and I speak

very highly of him.

How about this first story, Lancet?

Army and Navy are both right now undefeated.

If they keep on the one team on paper, because all of them can, but the one team on paper

that could challenge Army is North Texas, they've only got one loss and are looking pretty

good.

But there is not more than a possibility that on December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day, Army and

Navy could play for the American championship.

What a great storyline that would be.

Couple with the fact that they would play again the next week, which would be just amazing.

Yes.

Number three is Navy.

We talked a lot about the game against Air Force last week.

They went into Colorado Springs and took care of business 34-7.

They've got to buy wheat, so they're kind of kind of get the popcorn going and probably

cheer hard for whoever is playing Army.

Will you surprise that they beat Air Force so easily?

Air Force is struggling to cheer.

Had to spend earlier, yes, but the way Air Force has been playing, you know, they're just

not what they've been.

In fact, if you remember, they were eating no last year and they ran in the Army, got

P-24 and three and then lost their final three games.

It took them to a bowl game where they righted the ship when they beat James Madison.

So they've kind of stumbled, you know, since that time, except for that bowl game.

Number two, you have liberty and they just keep on winning.

Yeah, and they beat FIU last night, 31 to 20 or no, I'm sorry, it was Tuesday night.

In fact, I heard the other day for the next 40 some days, there's a football game on

every day, you know, including the NFL with the Sundays and Mondays and then college.

They're playing starting now on Tuesday and Maxion, you know, that thing in the Mac is going

to start.

Boise State, your number one team in the group of five, four and one, and again, we taught

earlier in the season.

It was a program that had been so high that kind of was a mediocre for a couple years,

but now they seem to fall their footing again.

And I got the right guy there now and they're back playing at a high level.

God Hawaii, this week at Hawaii and a high scoring game.

The one thing about Boise that you can question is their defense.

You know, they beat Utah State last week, 62, but they gave up 30, you know, so they're

not playing defense the way that, you know, over the years, we've seen them be a pretty

good defensive club.

So there you got it.

The top teams in both the FCS and the G5 and again, you have an opportunity to see even

deeper rankings in those divisions by going to Sully's College Football Page.com.

But coming up next, we are going to talk about the power for the top 25 according to Sully's

And sand, oh, can't forget the sandals and the right sunglasses.

And Southeast College Football Page on 98.9 WXCO, both fallsradio.com, mobile devices,

and Alexa by searching WXCO.

And on the civic media app.

And again, you get so much great information at sulleyscolleysfootballpage.com, including

the one and only sulleys top 25.

And do you say it all the time?

You don't look at any of the other rankings.

This is all based on the research and the information that you pull up.

Well, you know, the reason I do that, it would be very easy to be influenced by them.

You know, they have access to a lot of things that obviously we don't, we have access to

our numbers.

And I have to say it's kind of amazing how close we are in terms.

And for instance, last week I thought that I was giving A&M more credit for their wins.

And as a result of that, that Notre Dame moved up, because Notre Dame quite frankly hasn't

been as impressive.

And yet, when, so we used that information and we moved Notre Dame to 12th, I thought

that would be much higher than what they had in the 11th.

You know, and so it's funny how that works out.

But again, you know, they're looking at the same numbers that we are.

And so they are very similar.

Well, let's start talking about 25 through 11 in this segment.

We'll go in groups of two.

And number 25 back in, I believe they dropped out last week after they lost, so they're

back in.

The fighting align eye of Illinois, they did not play last week.

They get back to action against Purdue later today.

Yeah, you know, we had some things happen around them.

Teams that had gotten in front of them were beaten.

And so Illinois was able, and by week, to sneak back in, and it's based on their four

and one performance to this point.

And Illinois has beaten two ranked teams when they played, so they deserve to be exactly

where they're at.

And they, we talked about they had kind of been teetering, and then they fell off the

ledge against the A&M, didn't they?

They got hammered.

I was 41 to 10.

Were they in the top 10 last week?

They were.

You took them way down.

Well, you know, they have been teetering, and I didn't think they were going to survive

much longer there.

But the numbers and the wins suggested that's where they belonged.

But I'll tell you, they ran into an A&M team that brought back a weekmen started.

I think everybody thought that Marcel Reed, who had a big game the week before would start.

But Elko went back to a weekmen, and he delivered big time.

This game was not close and I'm dominated from the get go.

Number 23 is Washington State, and real quickly, beyond the field, I had felt really nice

about Washington State and Oregon State.

But I guess in this era, you have to be, you know, ruthless.

But I haven't been very thrilled with the way the PAC-12 has been going about trying to

reform it.

What do you think?

Well, you know, I think it's a doggy dog world.

Honestly, Chad, I try not to think much about NIL or the transfer portal, because it

can blow you up in terms of you're just thinking this economic push is out of whack.

These are public institutions, they're academic institutions, and suddenly, they've become

NFL surrogates.

You know, they're like a poor man's NFL.

And you know, you're looking at Oregon to spend 23 million for its roster across sports.

Ohio State, it's been reported as that 21 million, a lot of schools are careful, because

the money's coming from private sources, so they don't have to divulge it.

So I don't see I try not to think about that, but the conferences, obviously, have to

try to put the best foot forward and the pay the bills, I guess, that's where we're at

these days.

22 as Iowa State, they're undefeated.

What do they have to do to get a little more love here in the rankings?

You know, I think the big 12, in general, has a lot of good teams, but they don't have

a lot of great teams, or you know, when Oklahoma and Texas left, their blue bloods kind

of left to conference.

So you're looking at a Kansas State, you're looking at typically an Oklahoma State, not

so much this year, BYU, teams that are solid, but not great.

And I think Iowa State fits that bill, their biggest win is against Iowa, who is beating

him 19 and nothing at a half time and ended up Iowa couldn't score, which we knew about,

and they got beaten at game 20 to 19.

So haven't had a great resume thus far, but I real solid.

I'm going to make a historical connection between 22 and 21, you have an undefeated Iowa

State, number 21, undefeated Pittsburgh, of course, Johnny Majors.

Sure.

Johnny Majors' connection there, but pit, five in all, number 21.

And you can also look at him from his days at Tennessee.

But they're not number 20.

No, they're not.

Yeah, they're not.

So yeah, I mean, you could have really made it funny if you put just no Tennessee at

number 20, then I could have made a three in a row.

Well, you know, and I can go back historically to the time a good friend of mine, a guy played

high school basketball with Tommy O'Connor, 6-11 kid, went to Iowa State from Mobile

League Junior College, and was coached by the legendary Mory John, you know, who had

the great run at Duke and, excuse me, not Duke Drake, and then was that Iowa State

with all.

That's when Majors was the football coach.

So Iowa State knows there's, they kind of had an athletic cool with those, you guys.

Number 20 Nebraska.

Again, they got the big win against Rutgers last week to kind of maintain that.

That little momentum they've been able to gain so far this season.

Yeah, now they've been at five wins with games to go before.

That's time they've got six games to do something they haven't done since 2016.

And this is shocking to say, but nonetheless, true, they've been to a bowl since two, they're

on their way this year.

I mean, it would be a beyond a major meltdown if they don't win one more game undefeated

Indiana.

You said it.

There's more touchdowns than anybody.

Number 19.

You know, and, you know, it was one of the teams that you and I talked about.

We were going to watch this year in Nebraska and Florida, and then along with Indiana, because

Kurt Sigmetti had never had a losing season.

And you know, right now, they'd have to lose six in a row and then lose the bowl game.

Otherwise, he's going to continue that streak.

Number 18 Kansas State, again, you mentioned earlier, the only flaw in their resume so far

was a pretty nasty loss against BYU.

And this is a big test coming up against Colorado on the road.

Well, you know, this is a game of contrast.

You know, Kansas State is a program that does things right where Colorado is a program that

does right things.

You know, everybody's trying to be a playmaker where Kansas State, they play their position

first.

So it's contrasting all across the board.

And I'm with you.

This is going to be a fun game to watch.

Number 17 Southern Methodist, one of the best seasons as to SMU's had since the

pointy express days.

I didn't think they beat Louisville.

I thought they did a taste of that defense.

Louisville has a great defense of line, but I'll tell you, they did themselves proud.

You know, it's Texas players and of course, Texas players don't think they know they're

better than the people they're planning us.

You got a couple of Utah teams, 16 and 15, you got Brigham Young, and then Utah itself

and Brigham Young sort of on the upward, and then Utah sort of on the downward.

Yeah, they got beat last night, and so that was a tough loss for them.

And I'll tell you, BYU, I was looking one time.

The average age in a college football program is about 19 years, eight months, because

you know, once they get to their third year, guys can leave.

BYU was like 21 years, five months.

So they were almost on average, two years older, because of the missions.

You know, they go on these religious missions all great, and I think it gives them an advantage

because their kids are a little older.

Oklahoma, number 14, and again, massive game against Texas.

I mean, this kind of will indicate whether or not Oklahoma is a team that's fighting for

a playoff spot, we're just basically trying to survive the SEC.

Yes, and you know, this is one of your pet peeves here in that TV money.

This game is 11 o'clock kickoff forever, and the idea was you go to the game, and then

you go enjoy the Texas fair, you know, that's why they've always played in Dallas.

And yet, the TV dollars have moved this to a 230 kickoff, so I've been whining about

that all week.

Number 13, LSU kind of in the same boat, along with Mississippi, but LSU taking on Ole Miss,

and again, it's a game that will indicate whether or not LSU's a team that is truly fighting

for a playoff spot, or again, just trying to survive.

Yeah, and you know, this is one of the very best games of the day.

You've got two SEC teams that are in the midst of the race for that SEC championship, and

the winner of this is certainly going to have a leg up.

Another name, number 12, and right now, despite that loss to Northern Illinois, they're still

there.

If they take care of business, it's not what you would call an overly difficult schedule.

I mean, they're probably in a pretty good spot right now to be in the playoff.

I didn't think that I don't think the Notre Dame thought Army and Navy were going to be as

good as they are, but you and I talked about this.

It does a great win, you know, overshadow a really bad loss.

The loss to Northern Illinois is what I would describe a horrible note disrespect to Northern

Illinois, but that is a very bad loss.

So Notre Dame needs two things.

They obviously need to keep winning, and they also need A&M to keep it going as they have

to this point.

Number 11 Clemson, the world was coming to an end down in Clemson after that first game

against Georgia, but things have really settled in nicely.

They won four games in their own, including a win against Florida State last week.

And Clappernick, their quarterback, has been playing a lot better, and he's been showing

some speed.

He's broken some runs of 40-50 yards.

You know, I think this team is rallying around their coach and his position on the transfer

portal where Debo basically says, we're going to recruit and then we're going to develop.

And so these guys are our guys, and he has not in the seven or eight years that the transfer

portal has been available.

Has he taken a starter from, he's taken guys.

But not a starter.

So, and I kind of like that as well, I got to tell you.

We're going to take a quick time out and then come back with the top 10.

Yep.

There was some interest in the losses within the top 10 last week, so we'll see how those

games affected the rankings, so we'll talk about that coming up next.

On the Civic Media app take you up to kick off.

Lots of action starts off at 11 a.m.

Continues throughout the day and the night as we get into the midst of some major conference

showdowns. Let's talk about the Southeast College football page top 10 for the power for

and starting at number 10 down slightly after a loss to Arkansas on the road last week.

Tennessee, I think the thing about Tennessee that was the most surprising was

they won a score of 14 points.

That's the thing that jumps out of to giving away the offense has been playing.

You thought that they were going to come in and just kind of overwhelm Arkansas.

Who to this point has struggled but not the case.

Arkansas stepped up played their best game of the year and I think shocked many people

in the South Eastern Conference when they won the game.

But how they won the game holding Tennessee's high potent offense to 14.

Texas A&M has cracked the top 10.

They of course lost their opener to the Notre Dame but then made a major statement

last week waiting previous top 10 ranked Missouri of 41 to 10.

How good is Texas A&M?

You know defensively they're very good.

You know they're D line their linebackers can all run their secondary plays at a high level.

You know their quarterback Wigman has done a good job.

Running backs have been effective.

So this is a good team.

How good you know is Missouri.

You and I question them you know good you know for the last few weeks.

We've been wondering if they're as good as advertised.

A&M exposed them.

So we're going to see when A&M gets in with some of the heavier weights

in the in the South Eastern Conference.

Number eight Ole Miss and they bounce back with a win against South Carolina

after they fell to Kentucky still right there at number eight in the country

and still very much a factor.

You know and I got to tell you if I was like Lane Kiffon

and yet what he's doing now Chad is a travesty of the game.

He had on 10 occasions in that game when they beat South Carolina to 27 to 3.

They were falling down.

Guys were just falling down to stop the clock or anytime.

You know South Carolina made a play and you know were

because the game was closer than that for much of it and they were just falling

down to stop the clock.

In other words the kind of let the sweat dry, the rhythm dry up

and that needs to be challenged and that's what Shane Beamer said

that somebody has to talk to them about this.

Number seven is Georgia and it was a bit of a struggle for a while against Auburn

but in the end they pull away when 31 to 13 and the Bulldogs again

a couple of natural championships and maybe the team that was most

aggrieved last year and suffered the loss against Alabama but

still sticking around right at number seven.

Yeah you know and a lot of people now have put and I say people I mean

polls have rated or ranked Georgia in front of Alabama.

I'm still a head to head guy you know Alabama beat them two weeks ago

they lose then they become unfocused or whatever you want to say or give

Vandy their credit they went in and just played at a really high level

and yet people put Georgia in front of Alabama.

You know what I guess there are many ways to look at this whether it's resume

or the eye test or you know the head to head stuff

and so we had Bama spot in front and Georgia has not dominated the way they

have the past few years.

Six is Alabama what happened I mean what happened there I mean they lost

Vandy even the game against Georgia wasn't the prettiest football in the

world I don't I don't know if this team is I mean it's obviously exceptionally

talented team but is there some tightening up that needs to be done.

Yeah you know the quarterback at Vandy just lit him up

he made play after play after play they were really good on third down

I don't remember Bama struggling like they did

in that game getting teams off the field they couldn't get them off the field

and so they got outplayed and you know you can say it was a

you know kind of a hangover for the Georgia win and

the Alabama fan base which I have to tell you is jumping ship now and

drove they're wondering if the the board is the right guy were the week before

he was clearly the right guy when they beat Georgia so anyway

I think Alabama is human and you also start to get up a better appreciation

as good as Sabin was you get a better appreciation of him when you see

things like this you know the Alabama lost of Vandy.

Number five is Miami I mean are they a fraud I mean they got very

fortunate against Virginia Tech two weeks ago they got very fortunate

against California last week are they really the fifth best team in the

country. They may have the the best quarterback

in the country in cam ward you know he may actually be

the guy who's in the lead for the Heisman. Being down 25

he had him finding a way back is impressive you know they travel across the

country and struggled but yet they found a way to win so

I would say at this point they're headed towards a

showdown with improving weekly improving Clemson.

But I mean when you look at rankings it's not just you I mean I think you look

all around I mean I am he's right up there is it all about winning I mean

because they easily could have lost in the last two games easily I mean

they were not and those are not Virginia Tech and Cal are not teams that are

ranked I mean so are is it fair to have them be the number five ranked team

in the country when I mean when you look at Georgia and they're only lost

is on the road at Alabama does that I mean there's a loss at Alabama

me that Miami is better than Georgia well you know I think you're touching on

some really good things here and that when you rank teams what what is your

primary criteria what is it the teams resume is it like you're saying the

eye test yeah they're winning but barely you know

isn't head-to-head you know we're not the way to do it yeah they're really

and so at this point I'm satisfied with them being there but I am with you in a

sense that they are not dominating they're just getting cam word in situations

where he makes plays a little bit like Daniels did a year ago for LSU this guy

just finds ways to win games got number four Oregon and Oregon seems to be

getting better and better as the season goes on they they are I think when you

look at them they came out with that Idaho game which was a bordered on bizarre

beating them by three points in the fourth quarter before they ended up winning

the game with a final touchdown by ten then being behind against Boisey who's

a good team but Boisey is not what I would call a defensive club they're

they just kind of outscore you right now and then slow you down on D

and yet they're playing better we're going to find out a lot about them and that

crowd I know that's a loud place they better be because they are up against it today

got Penn State number three then they beat UCLA last week the U.S.C. this week

but this is probably the biggest test they've had to the season yeah you know and I think

when when you when you look at solid college football page top 25 you're going to

on our website and look at solid college football page dot com and then you flip it and go look

at ESPN's rankings the coaches the AP's you're going to see pretty pretty similar kinds of rankings

with one exception all of those teams have Oregon ranked in front of Penn State I'm not buying

not yet I think when you look at Penn State their best footballs in front of them and yet today

I think they're going to have some problems out in California number two Ohio State still undefeated

football they have the probably the biggest test in the country tonight they they do and I

got to tell you I'm really looking forward to see how will Howard Ohio State's quarterback plays

in this kind of game because they're running backs with jugans and with Henderson those guys may be

both in the top five running backs in the country so it's going to be hard pressed

dealing with mr outside Henderson's got great speed and jugans just a brawl he knocks people loose

and amica obuka well great talent a whiteout so this is a very very challenging game for

and the number one team in Southeast college football page power four rankings is Texas right

and you know you're wondering who's going to start today is it going to be it's going to be

manning or are they going to go back to ewers though the things that I've had looks like they're

going to go back to ewer and how much pressure is on him then you know I think this kid is battle

tested he's been around so he's you know he's dealing with the most famous quarterback family in

the country that he's staying in front of and he's managed to do that you know that game a year

go against watch and then came down to the last play or otherwise they're going to be playing

Ohio State for a national championship so I think mentally he'll be fine and you know going

into this game I just think Texas has too much talent on both sides of the ball for me is it going

to be it feels like Texas may even have double digit win here right well you know pretty big win

yeah you know Texas these games historically have been close I think we said nine in the last

11 have been eight or less but in that that run Texas did be Oklahoma by 49 it'd been 49

enough and a few years ago so they're capable Chad of just getting it going and then Oklahoma

starts to press a little bit they could have some problems with but a lot of great games starting

right at 11 and of course the Badgers and Rutgers getting set to kick off from New Jersey so big

game for Badgers fans here this is a huge one I honestly I think this is the biggest regular season

game they have played in a long time Sully enjoy the game they'll catch you next week thanks Chad

I intend to do that buddy Sully's college football
