Like again, I'd like to thank Carmelo's for trusting me in representing their organization

and their golf course.

It's a great little institution out there they got going family, living legacy and great

food at Carmelo's.

Couldn't agree more.

Although I'm still protesting the fact that chicken lasagna was off the moon, I guess I was

only going to eat.

Anyway, hey, before we get started, Joe, I wanted to mention, I'd like to give a big shout

And Joe, before we actually get into the games themselves, maybe give us a little, a

bulk caramel.

It was obviously very proud of it and give the listeners me who may not be aware of this

wonderful place a little bit about it.

Well, it's funny you should say that, Chad, because as long as that golf course has been

there and the restaurant, we don't

take tea times.

And unavoidably everyone calls and asks for tea times.

But anyway, getting on to the restaurant, they have a great family thing going on there.

The menu has been established for a very long time, along with their Italian staples of

Spaghetti and Meatballs, lasagna, they also have a variety of steaks and they just started

something recently where they're doing a weekly, biweekly special for the season.

So a couple of weeks ago, they had October fest going on and they had a schnitzel sandwich

and a bunch of stuff.

So the chef there is doing some really wonderful things.

Fantastic.

Well, let's jump in.

Let's talk about some of the big games going on today in college football, ten of which

where Sully and Joe will go head to head and we'll start off with the Southeastern Conference

Mississippi.

Well, you haven't got to the rankings yet, but I'm assuming they took a big dip after

last week after falling at home to Kentucky, Mississippi, taking on South Carolina.

Both teams with just one loss and being our guest, we will let Joe go first.

I'll tell you what, Sully and I talked about this a little bit last night.

We were at Carmelo in the B-box, yeah, that's a whole nother story, but I'm going to go

with South Carolina.

I know this is going against the flow here a little bit, but South Carolina in that environment

over there in South Carolina is just amazing and Beamer's got something rolling there.

He has been for a while.

Kiffin has been suspect no matter where he's been.

He does really well, but sometimes he just runs into something like he did last week.

Yeah, you know, when I was researching this game, I was surprised to see he's eight and

eight on the road in the four years that he's been in the SEC at school.

I'm going to respectfully throw disagree here because the two words Jackson and Dart, I

think Jackson Tart is still the best quarterback in the Southeastern Conference and I do think

he's the best quarterback in the country, although I have sales a little disappointment

last week.

Chad against Kentucky couldn't get it done.

So anyway, Joseph, I'm going to go with Ole Miss in this game.

Second game, another SEC matchup, Missouri, still undefeated and they'll take on Texas

A&M in front of six figures in college station and M was able to pull out another tight

one against Arkansas last week.

This time we'll start with Sully, you know, this is one of the best games.

If not the best game of the day, I'm a little prejudice towards the Rutgers Nebraska

game, but this game is a huge game.

College station is one of the nuttiest places and you mentioned another one in South Carolina,

but this game is really going to make or break A&M season.

Missouri can pop back because they're unbeaten, but A&M's got that loss to Notre Dame.

I'm going to say that Mike Elko and A&M finds a way against Missouri.

Well Sully, although I don't like to, but I'm going to agree with you.

I think Elko down there, Texas A&M's got something rolling.

Missouri Drink Whits is doing really well, but he still has some stuff to prove.

He's had up and down seasons in the last several years.

Got a good matchup in the state of Florida.

Next central Florida, taking on the gators of Florida, obviously a lot of a heat down

there in Gainesville, but Florida and UCF this time will start with you all.

You know, when I researched this game, I didn't realize that this is potentially Napier's

last year or last season at Florida.

They're not happy with the things have been going down there.

This is all going to hinge on Grandmarts and how he plays.

If he has a good game, it'll be close otherwise I'm going with UCF.

So you're going with Gus.

Okay.

I'm going to say this.

His chat knows I've always been a big billionaire supporter and you're 100% right,

so he's got one foot out the door.

You're going to have to travel down there to help him all the way down there.

And I'm with you on Mertz.

I'm going to say that Florida finds a way and I've got to say my nephew is married to

a Florida swimmer and she always says UCF stands for you can't fail.

She says that that university is the largest undergrad in the country and she says everybody

gets in there and everybody graduates.

So what are you taking?

I'm going to have Florida.

Okay.

You gave a very good story.

There's a lot of people who are going to win the game.

That's the big 10 Iowa and Ohio State again, Iowa perennially the best defense in the

country with no offense and Ohio State was a perennally one of the best talent bases

this time.

Sully.

Yeah.

Phil Parker.

They're defensive quarter.

I'm surprised I don't hear his name or for jobs, but you never seem to look at I'm with

UCF.

They're really good defensively, but they are not quite as bad offensively as they are

good defensively, but they're close Ohio State's going to keep that defense on the field.

They're offense on the bench, eventually Ohio State pulls away in this game.

Sully off to agree with you on that.

My friends in Iowa just had offensive coordinator change and it was his son I believe who was

the offensive coordinator that they demoted him.

Days got something going in there in OS.

You always seem to improve throughout the year and I'm going to agree with you on that

one with Ohio State.

Another big 10 game coming up next Michigan at Washington, as we said earlier, this is

a rematch of the national championship game.

One by Michigan a year ago, both teams in transition, both teams with new head coaches,

both teams of stuff.

They're totally early.

Joe, what do you think?

Yeah, like you said, Chad, we got two new head coaches there.

Michigan's still trying to find their identity from the previous year and Sully as you and

I talked about last evening at Carmelo's restaurant that very smooth.

They have the B bar.

They've got something to prove and what I was allude to is that every year you always

have a number of starters that are changing.

College football to predict it from one year to the next, as we can see what's going on

here with Washington, although Michigan's got something going there.

I'm giving Washington the edge, being at home.

You know, a new coach at Washington, you know, the bars are off to Alabama.

I think Michigan wins this game, Joe, so I'm going to do the Red Sea separation here.

And I'm going to say that Michigan comes out and throws the ball better in this game,

because Washington physically I think can meet that power that Michigan's going to bring.

So look for Michigan to throw it a little more effectively and to get this win on the road.

It is halfway through our 10 game challenge.

So we're going to take a deep breath and step back and again, talk to Joe Nino a little

bit about Carmelo's you, you're very good, I got to say, you know what you're doing

in front of this microphone, but anything else you would like to add about Carmelo's

game.

You know, when it comes to your restaurant, it comes to the food.

It also comes to the ambiance and they have such a diverse ambiance there.

And when I alluded to the B bar, people were familiar with Carmelo's.

The B bar and the A bar, the A bar we call the library, the B bar is more of a local

Tony.

You can go and hang out and they have that meshed super well and it's all brought together

with their food.

They have daytime specials now in the summer during golf where they have food for lunch

that you can get some of the greatest side.

I mean, they have the best meatballs in town bar none, but all of their food is really

good there and their staff.

I mean, they have their staff, Lisa, who is the the Quase manager because it's a rule

by committee at Carmelo's restaurant and it works really well, but Lisa kind of holds

it together there.

And if you haven't had their food out there and you haven't been out there, go out there

and try the food.

You still got some time for golf.

We don't take tea times underlined right there.

And how about Jane in the A bar?

Oh, yes.

Mike, Michael, you know, she's way too efficient and he thought the only way to make her

less efficient was he offered me a position to go in there and work in it.

But I think Jane put the, put the stop to that pretty quickly.

Well, let's go on to game number six of the 10 game challenge, the game that, that

Sol has been talking a lot about Rutgers and the brass gun.

Sully, you've talked a lot about this, but now we're going to find out who do you think

is going to win it?

Well, that's something that I have thought about a lot as we get closer to kickoff here.

I think Rutgers is going to find a way on the road.

And I just don't trust Nebraska.

I've seen them too many times since the last time they were in a bowl game in 2016.

Get to five wins with two, sometimes four games to play and can't get that six win.

I think Rutgers offensive line is going to come out even with all that racket is going

to play a really effective game.

And I think they're going to get it done against the brass gun.

And I'm sorry to say that, but nonetheless, Joe, I'm going to have to differ with Sully

on this one.

I think rule that new coach over there who took over for frost, you know, Nebraska's

playing for something finally.

And like you said, they've got, they got to win this game to stand the big 10 hunt.

Rutgers on the road.

I just don't know, although this is the best time Shannels had or team he's had in a while,

on the road in Nebraska.

I'm going to tip it to them.

And I do think this is the most difficult game here to pick this one.

Clemson and Florida state hard to believe, but Florida state one and four coming off

a rather embarrassing loss last week.

And Clemson after an embarrassing loss to start off their season as a bounce back in

our three and one, this game in Tallahassee, Joe, what do you think?

You know, Florida state had high expectations, considering they had the big pity party going

on and not getting into the terminate tournament last year.

But like I said before, a lot of, a lot of turnover there with starters.

I just don't see how they come over double swinging and that, that, you know, they say

about a trend.

A trend can either continue or can stop at any time.

I just don't see the trend that FSU's got going there with the losses mountain up there.

I don't see.

I don't see them overcoming that this year.

You know, and one of the side stories here is DJ Uli Angola, who was the quarterback at

Clemson is out for the game.

I'm sure the Clemson fans were looking to welcome him back.

You know, the other thing that you mentioned to Joe, Florida state was, you know, feeling

really slighted last year.

And I understand that, but I would tell you, I don't think they were the most slighted

team.

I thought it was Georgia.

Georgia went 12 and a loss to close game, Alabama, and we're out.

You know, so anyway, all that said, I'm with you, Joe Clemson, just too good on their

way back, looking to win the ACC.

And this is just another step against their nemesis, a chance to take it to them.

And Swini's got a good, good system going there.

He's been there for a number of years now, and he just, he has control of that team.

Next up is SMU and Louisville, both teams off to a very good start to this season.

Though I don't know, Sully picked Louisville over Notre Dame and got burnt.

So he's going to go with Louisville again.

My brain got, my heart was filled with joy, but my brain got fried, yes.

You know, this SMU was picked higher than I thought they would be, Phil Steele and

others ranked them.

And they have been as, as advertised in the preseason.

All that said, I still like Louisville's front seven.

I think SMU is up against a defense that they're going to struggle with.

I think Louisville at home gets this done.

You know, I looked into this, did a little when I was doing my research and the quality

of the wins early on for both of these teams isn't what they haven't been high, high ranking

opponents.

And when I did my little analysis, I was going to go with Louisville, but I changed my mind

and I went with SMU.

You know, they're, they still haven't overcome the death penalty that they got down there.

We talked about that last night.

It's SMU was on the tops for a very long time.

And then when they got that death penalty, they've been struggling to get back all time.

But even though I'm going to give it to the Mustangs next up, big 12 West Virginia and

Oklahoma State both teams already with two losses.

So obviously don't want to have three losses at this point of the season.

Joe, you're up first.

I'll tell you what, when this first came up on the board, Sully gave me a sheet and it

was Syracuse, you know, on a V and I thought for sure I was going to get this one right.

Well, I want to make sure I got to win.

I'm going to take Syracuse.

Yeah.

No, I'm going to take West Virginia and that's what I'm going to go with the home team.

You know, my, my gun is lost to with my gun.

Do you love my gun?

I want, you know, got a little bromance going on.

Yeah.

No.

Not really.

He, I was shocked last week that they played that poorly against Kansas State.

I mean, they got routed.

They've lost two.

I believe you picked Oklahoma.

I did.

I did.

I thought they would get that done.

I like them today.

You know, I, I just think West Virginia, no, Oklahoma State at home puts an end to this

two game slide.

You're going to keep going to that well, aren't you?

And finally, the 10th game, the one we were talking about, we talked about before.

We'll talk about a little bit later on.

The Marine Corps.

For it all against a struggling Air Force.

Again, they have barely had a tough glove, tough glove, it's all far out one in three.

So I'm going to project something out here.

And that is that Navy right now is foreign oil.

Army is foreign oil.

How about if they continue on this path and win the America, then you will have Army Navy

on December 7th, Pearl Harbor, a great day to have them celebrate those great work

to military does.

And then they would play the traditional Army Navy game the next week.

So I'm, I'm all about that Air Force, you know, is struggling this year.

I think the Marines are going to come in here, hit the beach and just keep right on moving

in them.

Yeah, I'll agree with you on this one, Sally.

But I just want to point out, you know, it's the Marine Corps slash Naval Academy to

midshipment, great institution there going up against the Air Force.

Air Force has just struggled like you said this year.

They're having a hard time scoring it a lot of points.

I'm going to go with the Marine Corps as well, but either of them against the Army Army

is going to beat them.

Well, they had to send an Army representative in a bonus pick.

That's what you like to see a bonus pick here in the 10 game challenge.

Hey, Joe, before we do a wrap it up again, I know you've been touting Carmelo's and I know

you want to have one more opportunity here.

Just make sure to folks know about the great food and the great fun.

You get over there.

Absolutely.

You know, there are a little bit of time left to play some golf to a golf and dine in

the evening.

Like I said, their meatballs are outstanding.

Their lasagna is technically going to be qualified as a meal for two when they had the

chicken lasagna.

It's stacked high really well.

Sully's called the football page on 98.9 WXeon because of all the focus on the Air

Force and the Marines today, some of the rankings that we normally go down here today

don't have time for it.

Absolutely.

And we're making adjustments, but we're doing it for the right reasons with significance

in this game.

But what Chad is specifically referring to would be the FCS rankings.

And the group of five, we rank separately from the power four because of the discrepancy

of their athletic budgets.

Let's go through the 25 through 11 right now and then in our last segment we'll have

the top 10, but we'll go from 23 through 25, you have 25 Illinois, 24 Kansas State and

23 BYU.

You know, the thing that jumps out at you there is BYU, five and all.

I don't think anybody saw this coming.

They beat Baylor last week.

They got a chance to heal up.

So what a great start for them.

Illinois and Kansas State, you know, you weren't, you knew they were going to be competitive.

And they're also off to great starts at four and one each.

Then you have from 20 to 22, 22 Iowa State, the 21 Pittsburgh bounty back after a tough

season in New York, and number 20 Indiana is again, Indiana into the rankings.

Yeah, you know, Indiana has been absolutely a shocker to where they're at.

And then pit and Iowa State, both unbeaten.

These teams are all performing right now at a very high level, and I'm really especially

happy for Maddie Campbell and Iowa State.

He's been really steady there and has done real good work, glad to see him win in games.

17 through 19, you have number 19 Utah.

They took a shot last week after it looked like you know, big win at on the road against

Oklahoma State, and then they lose at home to Arizona last week.

And then you have a Louisville, another team that had an opportunity to make a bit of

a statement, but they will lost that Notre Dame.

And then number 17, Texas A&M, and like every single time they play Arkansas, the game

went down to the wire, and as they tend to do, they are able to win it 21, 17, so yeah,

you know, and they, they go every year to Dallas to play that game and they play at Jerry's

world.

Jerry Jones was a graduate of Arkansas, and so he brings them in every year.

And I have to say, the game is always close, and A&M always wins or seems to, you know,

so they and them really is in a huge game today with Missouri.

I game that they really need if they're going to keep their hopes alive for a college

playoff birth.

The next trio of teams in your rankings are the old blue bloods that you like to talk

about a lot.

Number 16, Notre Dame, number 15, USC, and number 14 Michigan.

Yeah, these teams are contrastingly different.

You know, Michigan right now is about running the ball.

SC is about throwing the ball, and Notre Dame is about trying to, you know, to refine

because I think of the three of them.

They're the most balanced, but three good teams and three teams that need to keep

their winning ways alive, they're going to get to the playoff.

Are you starting to believe in Notre Dame now?

I'm starting to think that Leonard can throw the ball deep.

I've seen him do that.

He's got to improve his accuracy.

Notre Dame's got to weak off, and they really need to spend a lot of time.

And I'm, you know, we're preaching here to the choir, but they have got to get him,

get him to be more effective in the short game.

Number 13, LSU, they're starting to creep up again after that first.

Last week lost the USC number 12, but Oklahoma looked like they were going to lose again

last week, but they came from behind to win against Auburn, Auburn keeps finding ways

to lose football games.

And then you have number 11 Clemson, and really I thought, again, after that first loss

to Georgia, they've been very impressive in backup, knocking on the door of the top 10.

Yeah, their MOV, their margin of victory is growing each week.

They look better.

And then the hypernictor quarterback is now playing, you know, more to the way you thought

that he would play this year.

And you know, you and I have talked about Debo's position on the portal.

And you know, people either swear, you know, at it or buy it, you know, I understand

both sides of this, but there's something about the loyalty that Debo shows his players

that I think is now starting to take effect.

Absolutely.

Well, coming up, what, we're going to go back, focusing again on the big game between

Air Force and the Marines, what are we have coming up with?

You know, we've got Lieutenant Colonel Mike Martin, who had retired from the Marines, actually

worked here at Newman for a while as the president of Newman Catholic Schools.

And then Mike left here, moved over to the Appleton area, and then the Marines contacted

him again.

And Mike is going to talk a little bit about what he's doing for them, and then kind

of what the Master Sergeant did talk about the specifics of this game, and give us some

insights to the Marines and their experiences at the Naval Academy.

for college students, pursuing a degree while training to become a commissioned officer

in the United States Navy or Marine Corps.

Students who applied in the cycle last year had a 71% selection rate deadline to apply

is December 15th for pre-med and January 31st for regular ed students.

Scholarship benefits include full tuition, $750 annual book stipend, $250-$400 monthly

allowance, education requirements, SAT minimum $1100, math $440, and English $550, and

ACT minimum $22 English and 21 math, AFQT 81, 160 plus colleges including 23 minority

serving institution scholarship reservation and open to all majors including nursing and

pre-med.

talked to the Air Force and now we're going to talk to the Marines aren't we so?

We are!

How you doing Mike?

I'm actually standing on attention as you were playing with anything you need to know.

And representing the U.S. Marine Corps is Lieutenant Colonel Michael Martin who was tired

but has been called back into service.

Mike first of all what would you like people to know about your experience in the

Corps and why you're recommending young men and women to consider serving?

Well before that, just a special thanks to the math start and representing the Air Force

I'm glad I was able to make it.

A little professionally embarrassed the Marine Corps recruiter couldn't make it he better

be right in the contract as he's speaking in this.

If not he's all kinds of wrong and I'll get him to do an eight count bodybuilders later

in the day.

So I joined the Marine Corps back in the 90s on a dare from a fraternity brother at the

University of Southern California.

I say that so some of your lesson-formed listeners don't think South Carolina at the

U.S. suit with eight Hyatton trophy winners, the most NFL Hall of Famers and the most

number one draft picks of any college.

And they went to court over that.

They suit South Carolina for that and won so don't forget that Mike.

I'll do respect the BMer he's doing a great job that way and obviously that's a great

place as well.

So I joined on a dare that's no kidding right after Desert Storm.

And I thought I was going to go in for four years, come back out into my MBA and end up

making it a 22 year career.

And then it was blessed to, when I retired, to be named the president of Newman Catholic

School.

So I was kind of, I was listening to the radio broadcast and just bringing back memories.

They're like men's and her hardwoods and lot of nose and all those great places I remember

out there.

Phil Men's and hired me so I've a soft spot for men's and her hardwoods and all things

would truly in general they provide.

I did get called back.

I do work for the Marine Corps again as in the civilian capacity.

I get to write doctrine for them, which essentially is how the Marine Corps operates specifically

on the ground combat side, basically how would we, how do we do our business on the ground

combat side.

If we have to hook and jab again and then how do we actually command and control that to

make sure that we inflict the maximum damage on the enemy and we bring everyone home

so to speak.

I'm blessed to have two careers, I guess, post active duty, one serving Catholic education

in the lost area and then now back serving our nation in a different capacity as a civilian.

So I hope that helps.

That's perfect, Mike.

So now, you know, we're going to talk a little bit about today's game and you said something

interesting to me the other day when you said the percentage of Naval Academy graduates

that go into the Marine Corps.

You want to speak to that for a moment?

Yeah, so I, again, I should say this upfront in deference to any Navy listeners out there,

especially the Naval Academy graduates.

I am not an Academy graduate, I'm not even an NROTC as well.

So I do know that in the rivalry, so to speak, the United States Military Academy calls

it canoe you, canoe university and then those Naval Academy folks that do a career broadening

toward the, at the Military Academy, call it castle grayschool and if you look at the

architecture, you understand why.

But roughly 30% of every graduating class from the United States Naval Academy is commissioned

to secondly tenant in the Marine Corps, which is a pretty significant number.

The majority of our Marine Corps officers come from other commissioning sources as you

might expect, but still as your tax dollar works significant amount to keep in mind that

the Marine Corps is part of the Department of the Navy, even though it's a separate service.

It falls under the Department of the Navy and ironically, it's senior to the Navy because

it was established in a bar called Tom Tavern in Philadelphia a couple days before the actual

Navy was established.

So when you see this service is lined up, you see the Army first, the Marine Corps second,

the Navy third, the Air Force fourth and now space forces is fifth.

You know, and I, as an Irish Catholic, I knew there was a reason I always had a connection

to the Marine Corps, but now you tell me they were establishing a local joint that explains

it.

Well, so there is a famous quote by Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of our 32nd president, FDR,

and she said literally, I think it best sums up what it means to be a Marine, and that

is quote, the Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest

minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I've ever seen.

Thank God for the United States Marine Corps.

That was her quote.

You can look that up.

I think it's magnificent, and it probably sums up what a Marine is to your listening audience

if they don't know.

Does a Marine have a logo like the Air Force Falcon and the Gold for the Navy?

Well, I've always known it as first a fight, so the Marine Corps pride itself on always

being there first in this expeditionary nature, if you will, and it's not to say the other

services aren't there as well, and I think ever since the Goldwater Nichols Act in the early

80s, we've become a lot more joint and a lot more interoperable, and I think the service

rivalries are not as severe anymore.

They're more akin to the Naval Academy trying to steal the Army, mascot, and vice versa,

right?

They're more good humor now as opposed to survival of each service.

I think for guys in my generation, we know nothing but joint.

I've always worked alongside my Army Navy and Air Force partners, and I can tell you as

a Marine infantry officer with a rifle company in combat in Iraq, there's nothing better

than having an Air Force pilot check in on a close-air support station at 30,000 feet

height of an ordnance he has, and he's ready to drop on the enemy.

It's the best feeling in the world, so I love how joint we've become.

Okay, Mike, hey, now let's turn to today's game here, and we know that Air Force leads

the series 34 to 22, and so some other things about the game, Mike, that I'm sure, since

you worked so closely with Air Force or Army, and then, of course, your Navy partners,

things that really the services think about these games.

Oh, I think it means a tremendous amount to them because of the bragging rise.

I mean, it's the equivalent of the Notre Dame USC game to them, or the Iron Bull for folks

in Alabama, or a Ohio State Michigan.

Now, I'm not saying it's at the same level, obviously, in this day and age.

I think back in the 40s, you know, in the air, when they were winning Hygiene and trophies

and whatnot, it was a much bigger deal, but to them, it's their big deal, right?

And I think that's what's important for everyone to understand.

Everyone, every college or university probably has their rival, and so playing your rival

and being successful against them, it really makes or breaks your season, regardless of

your actual record, in my opinion.

So I think that's why they place a lot of emphasis on this.

And then, I think the prestige of the commander and trophy, as well, is another aspect.

And as you mentioned earlier in the show, you know, with both Army and Navy at 4-0, just

start off with, in this new age of Confrontary Alignment and NIA, and I may not apply so much

to the service guys, but Confrontary Alignment in general, it gives it even more excitement,

I think.

Before we continue talking a little bit about the game coming up, you said that you got

into it, and probably weren't expecting to spend as many years involved in the Marine Corps.

Could you maybe talk a little bit more for folks who may be considering taking that step,

the positives that you are able to achieve during the course of your life, and a little

bit more about a career in the Marine Corps?

Sure.

And again, this is coming from the officer perspective, but I don't think it's too far

off from the enlisted perspective.

But joining the Marine Corps has been said by many folks to be kind of akin to a calling

to the priesthood.

It's an intangible calling, if you will.

I mean, the Marine Corps has the same educational benefits and educational resources in general

that the other services have.

But I think if you look at the billboards on 39 and some of the other places you see

the Marine Corps appetizers, you're always advertising the intangible of just being called

the Marine.

They don't lead with the educational benefits, now they'll put the cherry on top and the

wrap the sales package up with all that.

But at the end of the day, the Marine Corps is selling the privilege of being called

a Marine and what that means.

And there's a famous recruiting person, we didn't promise you a Rose Garden, right?

Just a title of Marine.

And as I said, first of all, we always have a refuse-to-lead mindset.

And the ethos that we have on our courage commitment, I think, brings true to the average

American as well, that wants to serve a higher purpose, that wants to put, that wants to learn

how to be selfless.

And I would tell you from a personal perspective, whether you're an officer or enlisted, the

chance to be a leader of people.

And I say that because you're believing both men and women, right?

It's fully integrated in that regard.

And as a young second lieutenant, 22 years old out of USC, becoming an imposter officer

and picking up my first wife, full platoon, I had 42 Marines.

Everything they did or failed to do was ultimately one person's responsibility, that was mine as the leader.

And I can't think of a better place in the world for someone to learn leadership from day one at that age,

whether you're an 18-year-old, private-first class put in charge of a detail to clean the barracks

or a second lieutenant leading 42 Marines, you're still the leader and in charge.

And it inculcates that in you from day one, whether day one at boot campers in Liston Marine

or day one at Offsure Canada School for Officers, it really trains you in leadership from day one

as opposed to many organizations out there that make you technically competent perhaps in your job.

And then only when you get into management, like 20 years later, they say,

oh, here you are, here's your leadership responsibility, go figure it out.

I don't think that's the best way to transform a leader.

So if you're looking on being a leader first, I would definitely look at the military in general.

And as you look at which service appeals to you the most, I would offer perhaps the Marine Corps

might be the best at developing leaders.

That's not to say we don't produce good leaders in the other services.

That's just my bias, I think, as the Marine.

Okay, Michael.

So now let's talk a little about, you mentioned this, the Commander-in-Chief Trophy,

which the Air Force has dominated or certainly leads 21 trophies,

the Navy, Marine Corps 16, and the Army coming in at nine.

There's only one other thing we mentioned, like this in the country where you have three teams competing for a trophy.

And that's what the Michigan schools, Eastern Central and Western play for the Mac,

Michigan trophy, so the three teams compete there.

So Mike, today's game, who do you like?

You know, I mean, I know who you're for, but who do you like?

Do you like the Marines in this game?

Or do you think the Air Force are going to turn their season around?

Well, I'll be truth and advertising.

I had not had my eye on this game, so you approached me, guys.

So I had to do some research going into this.

And I did not realize the struggles Air Force was having of late,

and how successful Navy has been of late.

So just based on what's, I don't read too much into what happened

history-wise in college football because of the turnover associated with it,

and how different it is from year to year.

You know, I mean, maybe Vegas and the wise guys do to some extent in terms of trying to set margins,

but in my mind, I'm looking at what have you done from you lately,

and what's going on in terms of quality opponents you faced,

how you played against them, and just your physicality in general.

And because of that, I think just from an analytical standpoint,

and being an OS broker, I'm going Navy in that regard.

And not because I don't like Air Force.

It's just, I think what the stats are telling me is Navy.

With that said, stats are meaningless.

Like Mike Tyson, everyone's got a plan to get punched in the face, right?

So you don't know exactly how tough Air Force are going to be

so that first snap when they start smacking in the face, too.

So that's why we line up and play the game, right?

So it may turn out that I'm wrong, and that's what makes,

I think, the drama, the human drama and the human aspect of sports so compelling,

because you don't really know what you're going to get.

Regardless of what the pro-nosticators may say,

regardless of what the historical outcomes say, what Vegas said,

and what I just said based on the limited research I've done,

at some point they got to line up.

11 on 11, snap the ball and smacks on the face,

and the tougher one is the one that's going to win at the end of the day.

Yeah, and I'm thinking, too, that last year,

Air Force was on a roll.

They went into the Army game.

They were eight, no, they were on pace to win the CIC.

They were on pace to win them out in West,

and it looked like if they accomplished that,

they were going to a new year six ball.

So it didn't happen, Army beat him 24 to three,

Hawaii beat him the next week, then Boise got him,

and it kind of went to Hades in the hand basket.

So Mike, if you and I and Chad were in that Air Force locker room today,

we're going to say this began, this struggle began with Army,

it's going to end with the United States Marine Corps today.

So I think they're even though clearly the Marines are having a better season,

the reality is Air Force is coming after them today.

Oh, and that may very well be it.

And I would kind of pleasantly smile if that was the case,

because it validates everything I just said in terms of,

you self-to-line up, you self-to-execute, right?

And there's, you might have like,

Riley, I really look at second half adjustments, right?

Because everyone comes in with scripted plays,

their first 45 plays are based on everything they see,

not film, and what they think is going to work against that,

and the defense is doing the same thing in the offense.

So really, if the end game adjustments part of the second half,

and then the big time second half adjustments,

when they come out of the locker room,

that are really going to tell you who's going to win this game in my opinion.

And finally, Mike, before we wrap things up,

any final thoughts, anything else you'd like to add,

that you haven't set up to this point in terms of making the Marines a great career choice?

No, I really appreciate you having me on here,

and I really appreciate the fact you modified the name of the Naval Academy.

Like that, which is kind of interesting, cool.

But again, in today's NIL,

Compressory Alignment, it actually makes perfect sense.

I would just say, anyone considering a military career,

I say that purposely because I think all the services have great aspects to them,

and there's advantages and disadvantages like there's everything.

I say, go for it, check it out.

Worst case, it's four years of your life.

If you enlist your 22, you've got the whole role ahead of you.

If you're 22 and you're an officer, you're 26,

you've got the whole role ahead of you.

And it's about life experiences,

the point being selfless, serving others.

I can't think of a better way to start off your professional career,

whether you're enlisted an officer and I encourage everyone to look at it.

And you know what, if it's not for you, that's fine too, right?

There's other ways you can serve your country, whether it's an education,

whether it's in local government, right?

There's other ways you can serve your community,

being a police officer, firefighter, a first responder.

Look at those first,

because I think you might be happy in those careers and money success

without actually looking for them.

That'll all come if you're happy with what you're doing.

And I submit to you, looking at a military career,

first responder career, someplace where you're selfless to yourself

and giving back the community is a great way to start off

on being successful as a human in general.

And I think everybody has got some good information today

concerning the Marines and the Air Force, haven't they?

Yeah, you know, we wanted to celebrate this game,

you know, a lot of times it kind of gets

left in the background with the focus on the Army Navy game

and the significant contributions

that the United States Marine Corps makes

in that game oftentimes were overlooked.

I hope everybody appreciates the fact

that we talked about the game being the United States Air Force

versus the United States Marines.

Since the Marines are a critical element

of the core and of the Naval Academy as well

as their involvement in the game,

which they always seem to be at a linebacker,

the guys that are going to the Marine Corps

or in the defensive line.

Let's talk about the top 10 teams in College Football,

according to Sully's College Football Page.

Number 10 is still in the top 10,

despite a loss is Mississippi.

Jackson, dark, your guy.

Yeah, like I'll tell you, I was mildly disappointed.

I wanted to see him have a high moment last week he didn't.

And you and I talk about Mark Stoops, that guy

just seems to find ways to win games

and has done a really good job.

And always seems to be under the radar

when you talk about the best coaches.

But I'll tell you, he's right there.

Nonetheless, Ole Miss stayed in the top 10

and now they've got to go to South Carolina today.

And this is going to be a game

that they're going to be tested in.

That environment is just wild.

You can see a lot of the same things

about your number 19 Missouri going on the road

in the SEC in a tough environment.

Yeah, the Southeastern Conference

has got two high-powered, high-quality, high-stakes game today.

Drinkowitz has taken his team into A&M

another crazy environment.

And those two games should be really enjoyable to watch.

We've got the, I don't have a time down

for the Missouri game did.

I think it's 230, but I'm not sure.

And the other game, the Ole Miss Kentucky game

is absolutely at 230.

Although I suspect that A&M game may be early.

11 o'clock it says on ABC.

And that's why I'm all over this.

I'm taking your word on your notes.

Number eight already, it's done.

They're work for this week, Oregon.

Yeah, you know, a solid win against Michigan State.

You know, a win that they needed.

Other than beating Boise, I would say this was

the next best team that Oregon has played thus far.

But if I were them, I would use this game

to teach the guys they got a lot of work to do

before they get to the heavy weights in the Big Ten.

Number seven, Penn State still right there.

They outlasted Illinois last week

and another big favorite today against UCLA.

Yeah, you know, they have played UCLA

as we mentioned earlier six times.

UCLA leads four to two in terms of wins.

But you're going back to an era where Gary Beben

was that UCLA in the 60s.

Heisman, trophy winner UCLA.

Being a little different team in terms of the talent

that they put on the field then they are today.

Gonna go six and five together here

as we're getting a little tight on time.

But Miami is number six.

Survive Virginia Tech last week.

And they take the track to Cal tonight in Georgia

down to number five after again, losing to Alabama.

Yeah, that's nine out of 10.

So I know a lot of people in the South Eastern Conference

have passed the torch from Alabama to Georgia.

And we've been saying for years now, no, no,

that's not the case because when it comes head to head,

Alabama wins this game.

So again, Alabama got it done against a very, very good Georgia.

Number four is Tennessee, number three Ohio State.

So Tennessee has been very, very impressive

so far this year and Ohio State.

I thought was very, very impressive last week

on the road at Michigan State.

If you look at Tennessee on the NCAA statistical site,

they are first, second, second, fifth

in all sorts of categories.

So right now by the numbers,

Tennessee looks to be as good as anyone.

In Ohio State really hasn't been tested yet.

They have been with great, really great opposition.

But that's coming for them.

And number two is Alabama.

I know some folks have put Alabama at number one

in the country after what they did against Georgia last week.

You have them at number two.

Yeah, I still like Texas across the board.

And those teams, Georgia, Texas, Alabama,

there's a lot of game to be played here.

I know that Georgia goes to Alabama.

They go to Mississippi, so they play Ole Miss there.

And then they have to go to Texas.

So of all of them, Georgia has the roughest roads to travel.

But they will bring it.

And number one is Texas.

They did not cover against Mississippi State last week.

They have a buy this week.

Is there a quarterback controversy yet?

Well, you know not, not according to the Sarcanian.

No, there is not.

He basically says that he worst is our guy.

And when he's able to go, he's going.

So we'll see how that shakes out

because, you know, Manning has played at an awful high level.

And he would have been long gone if it wasn't for NIL

and the money he's making to be the backup.

All right, so we got about 90 seconds to go here

as we get towards kickoff at 11 o'clock,

quite a few 11 o'clock games.

In fact, when you look at today,

I know that you've talked a lot about the Nebraska Rutgers

game as being one of your keeping eye on.

What else are you keeping an eye on?

Well, you know those two games

in the Southeast turn conference,

I think are a great interest.

You know, the South Carolina Ole Miss game in the A&M,

Missouri game.

I think the big 10 Washington and Michigan

is another game of interest.

And there are always games that we really didn't get a chance

to talk about today because what we were doing,

but there are always great games.

You know, you just got to kind of be willing

to travel a little bit outside of the power for it

because there are some games in the group of five

that are outstanding.

Along that same line, again, almost every week,

you have your group of five top 10

and also your FCS top five.

You can, you know, and as much time as we put into our show,

you know, and having you here is kind of a sure

is the quality for me.
