Sully's College Football Show · Sat Sep 14, 2024
And welcome back, it's our number two of Sully's college football page on 98.9 WXCO online
at bowlfallsradio.com mobile devices and Alexa by searching WXCO and on the civic media
app as we start off our two always start off with the big challenge.
The weekly 10 game challenge Sully goes up against one of the outstanding supporters of
this program and of Sully's college football page and today, who's our guest Sully?
Hey, today we're really really proud to have Eric great check with us.
He's a vice president chief credit officer for People's State Bank and so how are you
doing this morning here Eric?
I'm doing great, excited for the big badger game coming up here in an hour.
Yes sir, you know that's not every day that Alabama shows up and before we get started
Eric, I want to take a minute to give a shout out to our sponsors because as a result
of your willingness to partner with Sully's college football page we're able to reach
and we were able to reach our 2024 goal of donating $1,000 to volunteer private and charitable
institutions in our area and beyond.
These donations were given to the following, Hager House, wounded warriors, women's community,
Newman Catholic schools, the good news project, the main off-alonged here fire department,
the Humane Society, not MS out of the park, Central Wisconsin School of Ballet, St. Vincent
the Paul Society, the National MS Society, Children's Miracle Network and St. Jude's Children
Research Hospital.
So on behalf of those services, schools, charities, both falls radio and Sully's college football
page Eric, we'd like to give you and our other sponsors a simple thank you for making
these donations possible.
And Eric, before we actually start picking the games though, could you give us maybe
a little bit of all people stay pink?
Yeah, thanks guys, really appreciate the opportunity to be on the show and talk about people's
for a little bit.
So, people stay pink, a member of FDIC was formed in 1962, specifically to serve businesses,
their families and employees on the west side of Wassa, and that's still very much our
focus today.
We were recently voted the best bank in Marathon County for the 14th consecutive year,
as well as the best mortgage provider, we're a true community bank.
We have local decision makers, we have personalized service, and a number of locations across Marathon
County.
So, we're on Stewart Avenue in 6th Street in Wassa, Weston, Rib Mountain, and Marathon City.
So, conveniently located and here to serve you and the needs of our community members.
Fantastic.
Well, let's jump in.
We got 10 big games to talk about and to pick first up, let's start right at the top.
Let's start with the Wisconsin Badgers playing host to Alabama, both teams two and all on
the young season, Alabama making a rare foray into the far north to take on Bucky.
Let's start things off with Eric, what do you think?
As much as this pains me to say as a lifelong badger fan in UW-A-Lom, I just came in good
conscience, picked the badgers quite yet, I have to take Alabama today.
I think the badgers keep it closer than the hot makers think, but ultimately I think
they're year to the way from winning this type of game.
You know, Eric, I'm with you on that, and you know, you picked these games with your
head, not your heart.
The last time that Alabama was in Wisconsin, was in 1928, I believe, and the badgers did
shut them out 15 and nothing.
Here's what I'm hoping for.
When we get to the jump around, it's a one-score game with anything possible in the fourth
quarter.
That will be a memorable moment for the people that are traveling to see this game.
So you've got to go with Bama, I think, in the end, but let's hope the badgers make
it a fistfighter.
Our second game is an actual conference game, which is nice to see.
Southeastern conference.
You've got Louisiana State taking on South Dakota.
It's just South Dakota.
It's still out of the mind for the last week.
South Carolina, LSU, of course, lost their opener against the U.S.C.
South Carolina.
It's a shame beamer, it's done a nice job there.
So what do you think?
Well, last week, South Carolina hammered Kentucky.
I did not think that would happen.
I thought a close game, Kentucky would win at home, no, it was like 31 to 6.
That said, LSU was one-three straight, Eric, and all of them surprisingly have been at
home.
This time they got to go to Columbia.
Game day is there.
The athletic director resigned a couple of days ago, and nobody is exactly sure why, so
a lot of turmoil.
And yet I like LSU to continue to extend that three-game win streak.
I agree with you there, Sully.
I think Garrett Nussmeyer is one of the most impressive quarterbacks I've seen this year,
and I think LSU rolls today.
Up next, we got a good non-conference matchup.
Boston College, Bill O'Brien, is off to a flying start with the Eagles, including that
win at Florida State.
And then Missouri, one of the top ten teams in the country from the Southeastern Conference.
This time we'll start with Eric.
All right.
I'm going to go with Mizzou.
I think generally speaking, you want to take the SEC team at home in these situations.
I have been impressed with what O'Brien is doing at BC, but I'll go with Mizzou today.
Okay.
I'm going to separate here.
Missouri, as good as they were a year ago, really haven't played much of a schedule to this
point where BC has.
Bill O'Brien is a no-lonsense tough guy.
So I'm going to go here, Eric, with the upset BC, gets it done in Mizzou.
Our fourth game is Texas A&M and Florida, Southeastern Conference matchup.
Both teams have already lost this season, and both teams, I think, don't want to get
on that slide in a very difficult conference, so a fairly big game down at the swamp.
Sully, what do you think?
I'm going to go with A&M.
Florida has just had too many problems the last couple years, and now Merch is not playing
today.
They're going to go with their five-star, who really is not completely ready to get in
with the defense that he's going to see today.
So Eric, I'm going to go with the visitor I'm taking A&M.
I'm going to agree with you here again, Sully, Florida, the math.
That's all.
That's good.
And our fifth game, a very interesting non-conference game for the first time a non-conference game
after many, many, many years together in the pack eight and the pack ten and the pack
twelve.
It's Oregon, and Oregon State, Eric.
What do you think?
I'm going to go with Oregon, although they've really been begging to lose their first two
games, but I feel like at a certain point their talent is going to take over, and I believe
that day is today.
Yeah, you know, on that one, Eric, I'm with you, although they have lost three of the
last four when they were in Corvallis, but Oregon has really had to have a come to Jesus
meeting this week as a team because their scene is one of the best teams in the country
and they've done anything but play like it.
Today, they're going to come out and make a statement, I look for Oregon to win and win
big.
Again, our guest here for the ten game challenge is Eric Rayjack, People State Bank VP and
Chief Credit Officer, and again, Eric, before we get into the final five games of the challenge,
could you speak a little bit more about People State Bank?
Sure, yeah, just wanted to talk a little bit about my credit manager, which is a free
service for all customers who then are mobile app.
Within there, you can view your full credit report, the factors that are driving your credit
score, receive real-time notifications of items impacting your score, and then other
tools to help our customers stay on top of their credit and be in the best possible position
when lending these arise.
I believe our mobile app is up there with the best that the big banks have to offer and
this is a great free service for our customers.
Terrific.
Let's continue our sixth game, very similar to our fifth game, another game between former
PAC-12 rivals, Interstate Battle, Washington and Washington State, the battle for the Apple
Cup.
Both teams off to winning starts in the first couple of weeks of the season, Sully, what
do you think?
Well, I'm glad that this Apple Cup is continuing the Oregon Oregon State game is known as
the Civil War in Oregon, so I'm glad they're keeping these games going.
Washington leads this series, like 76 to 33, they won 12 to the last 14, Eric, I think
this continues, even though, and luckily, I should say, the game is in Seattle, so it's
at a neutral site, they're playing in the NFL state of, so I'm going to watch it over
the Cougars.
I agree with you there as well, as weird as it is to say that I'm rooting for the big
10 in this matchup, I'm going to go with Washington.
Then you have an actual big 10 conference matchup, you have Indiana and UCLA, and first time
that we're seeing this matchup, again, something we're going to see a lot of, these unusual
new matchups in the big 10 conference, so Indiana visiting the West Coast, and Eric,
what do you think?
Yeah, it's going to take me a little while to get used to that, but cool, it's UCLA, today
it's you to win it home.
You know, Eric, I'm going to part respectfully with you here, I think Indiana, with Kurt
Signati, their new coach, they have been on a mission, they won last week 77 to 3 against
up, really a bad team in Western Illinois, but nonetheless, I think they go out to the
Rose Bowl, they haven't been there since 68 to 14 to 3 loss to SC, I think this time,
they get it done against UCLA.
Up next, within the state of Indiana, we talk about Indiana, there'll be out of state
in Pasadena today, but in West Lafayette, the Purdue Boa, their makers will host the
fighting Irish of Notre Dame, coming off their massive, massive loss last week, solid,
do they bounce back?
You know, I'm going to be real interested, Eric, in this game to see who starts, if they
start Riley Leonard, supposedly he was hurt last week and they couldn't run him, and
Notre Dame has been bragging forever about their quarterback room, yet they kept him in
the game.
So, Scotland Yard is going to look into this, Eric, as to why they didn't sub their quarterback.
Notre Dame, I like in this game, I think that they know that they're in with a great rival
in Purdue, and they're going to come with a little better focus, at least I hope this
week.
Yeah, I'm going to agree with you there, I think Notre Dame doesn't win this game, their
season is effectively over, so I believe they'll be the more desperate team and
get it done today in West Lafayette.
Well, we had the Apple Cup, we had the Civil War, now we have the Backyard Brawl, West Virginia
and Pittsburgh, the 107th meeting between these two schools, today, we'll be played at
Pitt, Eric, West Virginia and Pittsburgh, what do you think?
I'm going to go with Pitt today, V Live Olsen, which is a great name, I don't know why I'm
playing at Wisconsin.
I think he has a big game, you know, two straight, 300 yard games, so it's his career,
so I like to hit today.
You know, this game is a fun game, the home team is one three in a row, pits at home, I'm
with you, Eric, I think the Panthers find a way and get it done against West Virginia.
And then our 10th and final game, we have Central Florida and TCU, it is a big 12 matchup,
silly, what do you think?
Well, you know, I think Central Florida is better athletically than TCU, Gus always makes
me nervous, Gus smells on the coast, you never quite know, Eric, what that guy's going
to do, but nonetheless, I'm going to go with Central Florida on the road to get it done
in a big 12 matchup against TCU.
I agree with you there, I think it's going to be a very high scoring entertaining game
and I will go with Central Florida.
Well, there you got it, 10 of the biggest games of the day, picked here between our
experts across the table, Sully, and then one of our terrific supporters in today, Eric
Ragek from People's Deep Bank, any final thoughts Eric, do you think you got Sully here?
Well, I guess just one last opportunity to talk about people's a little bit of think,
you know, if you're getting the run around from your current bank, you don't know who
to talk to, you feel like you deserve better, stop by people to talk to someone who will
take a genuine interest in you and your financial needs.
So again, I'll talk about our locations, we're on Stuart Avenue and Sixth Street in
Walsh, Weston, Rib Mountain, and Marathon City, or at bankpeople.com, we're open 24-7 at
bankpeople.com.
So again, that's People's State Bank, member of FDIC.
You know, I got to tell you, Eric, I couldn't agree more, you know, I've been working with
some of your folks to get squared away here for the sponsorship, Kelly, Megan, yourself,
all high quality people, and personally I have a lot of history in People's State Bank,
and I think that, you know, you being the best bank in Marathon County for 14 years certainly
is something that I have plenty of, a lot of reason to recognize that.
So great job over there, and hey, thanks for coming on today.
Yeah, thank you guys, appreciate the opportunity.
Absolutely.

So, let's start things off with the football championship subdivision, the FCS and number
five is Villanova.
Right now, I should mention that on the site, if you go there, we rank the top 15 teams
because of time.
We only do the top four on a year, so if you want to see some other clubs, just go to
the website, go to the top 25 teams and you'll find it there.
Villanova is, I think, shaping up to be the best-looking team in the Coastal Athletic Association.
They beat Colgate, a New York School last week, 28-3, they got Towson coming up.
This is a good team.
They made a good run last year in the playoffs and looked for more than the same from them.
The four is Idaho.
Quite a start for Idaho.
A couple of road games against teams that are larger than them.
They went to Oregon, played an outstanding game there, then they went to Wyoming and beat
the Mountain West Squad last week on the road.
Well, that's exactly what they did.
In that Oregon game, the score was 17 to 14 into the fourth quarter, so they were right
there.
Then they went to Wyoming, as you mentioned, and got that done.
These guys are out of the big sky, and I'll tell you, they're going to make some noise
when they play Montana and when they play Montana State, two of the preseason favorites.
Number three Montana State, who is still undefeated, they defeated Maine last week.
A solid win for them, Maine's out of the Coastal Athletic Association, good conference.
When you're talking the FCS, you're talking the Socon, the Southern Conference, you're
talking the big sky, you're talking the CAA, the Coastal Athletic Association, and of
course the Missouri Valley.
Good win for Montana State, and they have solidified their position.
I shouldn't mention North Dakota beat Montana last week in a very hotly contested game,
and so Montana State is now moved in front of Montana.
Then the top two, a couple of parts of the country, part of the country, normally, we see
at the top.
You got the Dakota.
You got number two North Dakota State, and then number one South Dakota State.
Yeah, North Dakota State had a pretty good showing to a real good showing against Colorado.
I believe it ended 31 to 26, and they took out their frustrations on Tennessee State.
They beat them 52 to three, and this week, they're playing East Tennessee a team out of
the Socon.
So a little better step up in competition, but nonetheless, North Dakota State is going
to be fine.
So again, FCS, Villanova 5, Idaho 4, Montana State 3, North Dakota State 2, and South Dakota
State number one.
The group of five, we'll talk about the top 10 in the G5, with the PAC-12 returning,
will it then be the group of six?
You know, I don't know, or we'll mount the Westrop, but you'll never know, it changes all
the time.
That'll be an interesting, you know, development, because the PAC-10 or eight or whatever they're
going to be, are going to try to maintain their power ranking.
I don't think that's going to happen.
You know, it'll be interesting to see which way they go when they get, when they're trying
to get to eight.
But anyway, we, for the group of five, Chad, we ranked 20 teams.
We only present 10 on the radio.
So tennis Toledo team out of the MAC, they beat UMass last week, who is coming into the
MAC next year.
They're going to be losing their independent status, and they're going to be joining the
MAC.
And this week, they are up against that.
This is a good Toledo team, and yet they're going to Mississippi State and SEC team.
Not one of the better ones, but nonetheless, still, they play in Italy and play against
awful good talent.
So Northern Illinois earns their way into the top 10 at number nine after that win in
South Bend.
Yeah, it was a great win for Northern Illinois.
And I think it was a coming out party for them to make an announcement to Toledo, to Miami
of Ohio and Ohio, as well as bowling green now, starting to assert themselves that we're
here to win the MAC this year.
And some people have them picked as high as second.
Got the Sun Belt making an appearance at both number eight and number seven.
You got Texas State number seven after a rather impressive win against Texas and Antonio.
They'll get an opportunity to make some waves against one of the power conferences when
they travel to Arizona State.
And Coastal Carolina is also from the Sun Belt and at number seven.
Yeah, they're playing temple, and I should point out that Texas State plays.
Arizona State Friday night game.
Yeah.
And the great game, it ended up one score like 34, 27.
And you know, Arizona State survived, but just barely this Texas State team is really
a very good club.
And number six, Liberty Liberty still undefeated, obviously, they made it to the one of the
main bowl games last season, and they continue to be among the top teams in the OG five.
Yeah, they are.
And they've got a conference game this week against Texas El Paso, one of the more challenged
teams in conference USA, you know, going into the game, a Liberty's a 23 point favorite
here.
UNLV number five.
And again, it feels like a program that is on the up swinging, especially if you're
here.
So you said earlier, perhaps they could be becoming a pack 12 team in the near future.
It just feels like with that stadium with everything that's been going on in Las Vegas
generally, it's a program that is going to be a factor in the future, isn't it?
It absolutely is.
And Chad, that's a great lead in because they did play last night, and they beat Kansas
23 to 20 great game, very entertaining game.
UNLV scored on the one yard line and from the one yard line on fourth down.
So it couldn't have been a more exciting game.
In fact, it ended with Kansas driving and UNLV getting a sack on fourth down.
Bad week for Kansas.
Yes.
South Florida number four.
And again, they bet into the score last week against Alabama, you know, looks like a blow
up.
But it wasn't anything but a blow out.
No, it was not.
And Florida State is really good.
South Florida.
You know, I'm going to say that forever, thank you.
I should say USF, yeah, you know, I said a couple of weeks ago, I thought they were as
good and ready if they were to line up and play Central Florida, they would go right
with them.
Those two used to be rivals.
I think South Florida is on that level again and they're going to make some noise in
the American.
Number three, two Lane and looked like for a while they were going to get a big W against
Kansas State last week, but K-State was able to come back and win that one.
But you still have two Lane at number three.
Yeah, you know, I thought they played really well and it doesn't get any ease here for
them.
No, it does not.
They're traveling to Oklahoma.
Now, Oklahoma struggled last week and it's two Lane team is really a very good team,
but I don't think so.
You know, I think Oklahoma finds a way, but I would not underestimate two Lane's ability
to make this a very competitive game.
It's actually interesting because Oklahoma last week faced two Lane's former coach.
Yes.
And now they face two Lane themselves.
Yeah, well, Willie Fritz, yeah, in fact, I think that score was 16.
He was very low score.
Yeah, so Willie was, he was all over Oklahoma.
Number two, Boise State.
And again, they came so very close of getting a major upset victory, taking Oregon right
to the nub before falling on the last play 3734, but still very impressive squadded.
And again, as we talked about earlier in the season, they're trying to reestablish their
role within the G5 that we came to expect for a number years and a little bit of a dip.
Well, you know, we've got them too.
I think a lot of people think that, you know, they don't rank them the way we do with the
G5 as a separate entity, but they have Boise ranked higher than they do.
Memphis, but nonetheless, that was the first time in you and I when we talked about a last
week, we're kind of surprised that Oregon had never beaten them, but nonetheless Oregon
got it done.
But I'll tell you, BYU did itself proud, and they clearly are making an argument.
They are the best team in a group of five.
And number one, Memphis and Memphis beat Troy last week in a very interesting game coming
up for them this week, isn't there?
You know, a lot of layers to it as well.
Yes, you know, Florida State, this time it is Florida State, I probably should have said
South Florida, but anyway, Florida State, O-1-2, shocking, you know, you know, like when
I look at that, I think you mistyped that, but it is O-1-2, Memphis 2-0, Florida State
yet is favored at home, but the interesting thing here from those who said lines, it's
less than a touchdown, you know, it's at that 6.5.
So this game is, I think, my C-T-V, it's going to be fun to watch how this plays out.
Wasn't Mike Norvel, the former coach at Memphis?
Yes.
So this is, you know, I hadn't thought of that, but he was.
So this makes that another layer to it, whenever somebody leaves your school for somebody else,
you want to beat them.
I think Memphis would love nothing better than to beat Mike Norvel.
And they are in position, these two games, the two lane game, and the Memphis game are
going to be a lot closer than I think your general average fan would think.
So again, that is the top 10 in the group of five, and as Sully said, if you want to get
even more rankings, go deeper into the rankings, both of the FCS and the G5, just go to
Sully's college football page.com and get that information in a whole bunch more.
So coming up, we will have the top 25 teams in the Power 4.
I think we're not going to give anything away, but when we say there's going to be a lot
of big 10 in the Southeastern Conference teams, it's not a very well-known seed.
So we'll come back with the top 25 coming up next here on Sully's college football page
on 98.9 W-X-C-O.

Welcome back, Sully's College Football Page on 98.9 WXC.
Well, it's time now for the 25 top teams of the power for you.
The P4 now and top 25 according to Sully's College Football Page, and again, you do not
look at the other rankings.
This is strictly based on your information on the site, based on your eye test yourself.
That's how you do it, right?
Yeah, you know, based on what the information is on our site, and then I'll use the game
simulator, and that is just by the numbers, but it gives you a perspective of all these
teams would do it against each other.
So yeah, do this, and then I have to tell you, I do take a peek to see how close we are.
Well, number 25, you still have Wisconsin on the edge of the rankings.
They're two in a home, and they've played well enough to be in consideration, and since
this is the great state of Wisconsin, we give them a positive consideration.
But nonetheless, I don't know if anybody else has ranked them, and we're going to find
out a lot about them in about what, 25 minutes or a half.
Well, if they do win today, you know, they'll be going up significantly.
Right to the top.
There you go.
Number 24, Vanderbilt, off to a two-and-all start.
Yeah, this is a team that people in the SEC often speak very disparagingly about it.
Academically, this school, this university, like you say, is not a athletic program surrounded
by academic buildings.
This is all about academics.
It's one of the top schools in America, and Clark Leah, their coach there is a graduate
from there.
He's doing an excellent job, and I think it's going to continue.
They got Georgia State today and should be able to get to three and a half.
And real quickly, it's not a case where they don't take athletic seriously.
I was reading a story a couple of months ago talking about their basketball program.
They made a change with Jerry Stackhouse being fired, and they're putting money into athletics.
They are trying to compete again, but there's a balance to it that we don't see in many
of the other schools in the South Eastern Conference.
Now, as though they don't care, or they aren't trying hard, they're making the moves to
try to be very competitive as well.
Yeah, you know, and look, they've won it in baseball.
We're at a final four, a few years back in basketball.
They can play.
You know, they struggle in football, but who wouldn't in that league, you know, so I'm
thrown for them.
I hope they get it done today.
And then next week, we're going to start with some Southeast Eastern Conference competition.
Number 23 Notre Dame, even with the loss of me, you keep them at like, you know, number
two or number three, but no, of course, my mind, but number 23, and I guess, you know,
when you lose that kind of game, that's where you're going to be.
I mean, it was a good, obviously, still a good win against Texas A&M, but boy, that loss
really does a stink.
I would say to you, if you compare the up and the down, the down is worse.
That lost Illinois, as great as that win was, you know, against A&M and that environment.
This was worse on the other end.
And so we dropped them to 23rd.
I mentioned I checked from time to time.
We have them the lowest.
I think this might be the worst loss that I have seen in my years following the Irish.
Number 22 Michigan, and again, the defending national champs lost to Texas last week opportunity
to get back, you know, on the winning track, but again, I think Michigan is a team that
just needs reps.
A lot of these guys, right?
Yeah.
They will get better off, basically, they're replacing what 13 guys were taking in the draft.
Look at the thing about Michigan that got them to 20, got them this low was the fact that
they gave up that many points in the first half.
Because their defense would have been worn down in a second, okay, then I would have said
that's a different result in a different way to evaluate.
But the fact that Texas came out and got them early suggests that this defense is not
where it needs to be and certainly know where it were, know where near where it was.
One of the great wins last week for anybody was Iowa State when those rivalry games on the
road and you come from behind and win it as they did beat Iowa in Iowa City 20 to 19,
you got them at number 21.
Yeah.
You win from Maddie Campbell, he is a really good coach and, you know, as much as I chair
for the big 10, you know, in the non-conference season, I was not disappointed to see him
get a win.
They have been close many times, Chad, but I would just get some 10 to 7, 12 to 9.
I mean, they're always competitive, but I was seems to prevail, not this time.
Another school that you touched on during the group of five rankings, Arizona State and
they did get a, they get the relax today.
They already got their work done for the weekend, but some tough work last night in their
win against Texas State.
But you have a number 20.
Yes.
And I misspoke on the score.
It was 31 to 28.
I think I said 34 to 27, but nonetheless, really a good game and they are playing way better
than people anticipated, which is one of the concerns I know you have with preseason rankings.
But I would counter that if you're going to preseason rank, then you better be mobile
with these teams because it's how they're playing.
You know, you're exactly right with that.
Number 19 Nebraska.
And again, it's been a good start for Nebraska.
That was an impressive win last week against Colorado.
I mean, you take a look at what happened last year in Colorado compared to this year, a
complete turnovers.
Yes.
You know, and clearly a different quarterback with Raleigh.
This kid is as advertised out of Georgia.
And so wherever he's from, he's not from Georgia.
He was going to Georgia, but nonetheless quarterback play is greatly improved.
And Maddie Rule has a history in that second year of making a lot of noise.
So we're looking for them to come in with an attitude today against Northern Iowa.
Speaking of attitude, yet Brian Kelly and LSU again, he was not happy after that first
game lost to USC, bounce back, beat Nichols, 44-21, but I guess we'll find out more.
They are on the road for their SEC opener at South Carolina.
They are.
And I don't know if people saw his, his, his tirade after the game, he pounded the table.
And my son, who has often been a critic of, right, he said, all the other party needed
for that fake advertisement was to break into a Southern accent.
But nonetheless, this is going to be a very interesting game.
North Carolina is playing at a much better level.
Their game day is there.
The athletic director resigned on Thursday, so there's a lot going on there.
I would say, watching college football tune into this game.
Texas A&M is number 17, bounce back from their Notre Dame loss to beat McNeese.
And now they get into the SEC as well, a road game at Florida.
Yes, and they're a three point favorite.
Texas A&M has not done real well at Florida.
They have not, you know, so this is going to be an interesting game.
They're not starting grandmurts.
They're starting their five-star.
So Mertz was in a concussion protocol last week, and so I didn't know the status.
I just heard this morning that they were not starting him.
So a big game for A&M, they've got to continue to distance themselves in that Notre Dame
loss.
Notre Dame losing an IU hurt them.
Number 16, Clemson, after scoring only about three points in their opener against Georgia,
put up 66 in a win against Appalachian State last week.
They're off, but number 16.
Yeah, I think Clemson is circling the wagons.
Everybody in their mother is yelling at dabble about his commitment to his recruits and
not going into the transfer portal.
In the last nine years, he has no transfer portal starter.
So he's loyal to his group, and I think the kids are responding.
Not to correct you, but according to ESPN Grandmurts, we'll be starting a quarterback to you.
Well, then, yeah.
But they will, that there is a plan in place for DJ Legway to also play.
Okay.
I've got to say that I would go with ESPN over my insight, but I-
That will be first on the field, and that Legway would play specific possessions each
half and certain plays throughout possession, so it looks like they're both going to play
a lot.
Okay.
Well, you know, what I heard this morning, so I didn't know if he was still in protocol.
He's obviously not, and so I'm glad they're going with them.
I don't know if you saw a game against Miami, but that Florida line could block nobody.
In fact, I thought they were black and Casper because sometimes they weren't near anybody.
Bottom line is, I'm glad for Merz, and as much as I would like to see Texas A&M keep winning,
I got to go with our boy Merz.
And Legway had 456 yards in that game against Sanford.
Obviously, a different team.
Yes.
It's hard to pull a guy after 456, so I guess, you know, he's trying to split the baby right
there.
You're right on it, Ted, and the Florida faithful do not want that.
I know.
Fan base would rather lose 72 to 71 than win 10 to seven.
I guarantee you they want points back to the rankings.
Number 15 is Utah and they beat Baylor 23 to 12 last week.
Utah takes on Utah State coming up next.
Weird game.
Baylor scored all their points in the first day, or excuse me, Utah scored all its points
in the first half, and then they were random defensively, you know, made it close at
the end.
Number 14 Kansas State.
We touched on this earlier when they had a comfort behind win against Tulane on the road
last week.
And they were in action last night, right?
Yeah, they beat Arizona badly in like 31 to three.
That's a big win.
31 to seven.
I think I don't have it written down here, but I watched a game, and I'll tell you, Kansas
State looked good.
They looked very methodical, very physical, good looking team.
Number 13, Oklahoma State.
And they beat Arkansas in double over time last week.
A game that Arkansas had many more yards.
Arkansas really probably should have won that football game, but Oklahoma State was able
to find a way.
Oh, my Gundie.
That guy, I saw them against Notre Dame a few years ago.
Notre Dame was beating them 28 to seven.
Gundie didn't change expression.
His hair never moves.
And they came back and beat him, you know, so I was thinking, I'm not counting Oklahoma
State.
Oh, because they were down big early.
Doesn't matter.
They just kept playing.
I felt bad for Sammy Pittman, you know, he's really a good guy.
He did.
They needed to find a way and, you know, they got to that second over time and just didn't
get it done.
So tough loss for Arkansas.
Oregon is number 12.
And the thing about Oregon, you know, they may have struggled, but dog on it.
I mean, at this point of the season, you just have to win the games for a team like
that, right?
You 100% right because nobody remembers, nobody remembers that you were beaten.
I know 17 to 14 in the fourth quarter in, in November, they won't remember that.
The reality is they did what they needed to do.
They won.
But today, they better put up or it's going to be shut up time because they are going
to take one on the chin.
Oklahoma number 11.
And again, the unusual thing about that game against Houston was the score.
Yes.
16 to 12.
I mean, you just don't expect that right now, generally in college football, but even
Oklahoma over the, I mean, going back a number of years, they've just been playing lots
of high scoring games.
But it does look like Vennables has brought defense back to Norman.
Yeah.
And you let the offense go on vacation.
Yeah.
You know, this is such a weird score, 16 to 12.
You know, there are football scores, 24 to 14, 31 to 28, 17 to 16 to 12 is just an odd
ball score.
And, you know, but what you said earlier is true.
They won.
And so now they keep and continue moving forward.
And it will be a challenge against Tulane today.
Tulane.
People don't know about Tulane's history.
They were initially one of the starters of the SEC.
In the South, they are, they are revered as a football school.
You know, they've kind of lost their swagger.
But nonetheless, if you look at them historically, they are always right there.
That is 25 through 11.
That means we have the top 10 coming up.
And we will hear who Sully has at the top of the heap going into this week's action.
So coming up next, the top 10 of the power four in our final segment of today.
And then we'll take you right up to kick off again for another big college football Saturday
starting at Camp Randall.

Well, it's time to find out who the top 10 teams are in college football for this week.
And again, it's going to be skewed towards the real power to the Big 10 and the SEC,
but a little bit of a spice outside of that, very little bit of spice outside of that.
Yeah, one team, but let's talk about the top 10.
Let's start off with number 10 Penn State.
Again, they started off with a very impressive win.
I thought against West Virginia, but then that quite is impressive just getting past
bowling green.
And maybe it's the case where again, these are still younger folks, college guys and
like Notre Dame coming off the big win.
They did not get the W and then Penn State coming off a pretty good win.
Maybe that's the emotion wasn't quite there, but they are two and all.
They get a week off, two weeks in, get a week off, but they are number 10.
Yeah, you know, and bowling green kind of made a statement here that they are going to
be a force in the Mac this year, along with Ohio, Miami of Ohio, Toledo, and of course,
not Northern Illinois.
And to your point, kid, they got it done.
Penn State won a big game like Oregon, basically.
Yes, they got the win.
That's the way.
Found the way.
Yes.
And Mizzou down a little bit from where you had them.
I dropped them a tad, even though they won, they won solidly.
I watched them play and the eye test looking at, you know, what you're seeing, you know,
in the teams that we're going to talk about here, didn't look overly impressive.
They're going to be in with Boston College today.
You know, you got Billy O'Brien, no sense guy who's going to, you know, get in your face
and stay there.
So today will be a little uptick for them.
They're favored by 16, but you're right.
I did drop them a couple of spots.
And like you said before, this is the time of year.
You shouldn't be glued to a ranking because I mean, you're finding out more about these
teams at this point of the season.
There should be a lot of fluidity when it comes to the rankings.
I mean, again, that's because in the preseason, you have somebody at this number, whatever
it may be, there's no reason not to take what you learn.
Yeah.
And you know what happens?
People say, well, I put them there and they didn't lose.
Right.
So I'm not going to learn.
You can't think that way.
You've got to look at these teams and then look at all of this stuff is subjective, you
know.
And so they really should be in flux.
Number eight, Miami.
Again, Miami off to a really good start this season.
They went from a whip down a Florida to a whip down a Florida A&M and up next to the
Ball State Cardinals.
Yeah.
You know, they look really good.
I mean, they looked really good against Florida.
Mario Cristobal has done two things the last couple of years.
He's done a great job recruiting.
There are top 10 program recruiting now.
And then Chad, they've gone to the portal and got fillers, you know, ends that can play
right away.
So this is a very good team.
I'd encourage, but forget a chance to watch them.
Check them out.
Number seven, Tennessee, again, a program that you've been very high on and may think is
really on an upswing.
Well, they're beat down of North Carolina State.
That game was at a neutral site, but they went in there and just took care of business.
Their quarterback is playing at a very high level.
And as well as he is playing, the D line may be the best right now, at least playing
the best of any college team.
They are looking like the real deal.
And they're going to make some noise coming up here in the SEC.
Another team off to a really good start so far this year is USC.
Again, there were a lot of question marks.
I think it's a lot of pressure on Lincoln Riley, but so far, so good for USC.
Chad, about a month ago, you and I would have never said the two best looking teams in
the Big 10 or Ohio State and FC because of their defense.
You know, Ohio State the last few years has struggled.
And as we look at him today, I love the fact that SC is getting really good again because
I think college football is better with a really good SC team.
Number five is Alabama.
Again, a little bit of a struggle last week, a big test coming up on the road today.
Yeah, you know, that game, I think a week ago, might not be good for the badgers because
I think calendar more has their attention about maybe being more attentive to detail.
So this is going to be a kickoff here in about seven minutes, a game that I think everybody
in the state is going to tune into.
Head of Alabama and I think Lane Kippen will be very happy to hear that you have such
high thoughts about him and his team, Mississippi, their quarterback, Jackson Dirt.
I know everybody loves Carson back.
They say, Georgia quarterback, I don't buy that.
I think what Jackson Dirt, the guy does throw darts, he's got great feet.
And the thing that you and I have talked about over the years is he looks to extend before
escape.
So he'll climb and widen into pack up a man, his eyes are downfield.
And he will, you come up, the undercover girl right by your ear, really good player.
You got Ohio State at number three and they, we talked a little bit last week about how
Wisconsin struggled against Western Michigan.
They were down in the fourth quarter and we'll see maybe a little comparison in Ohio State
beat them 56 to nothing.
Yeah.
I mean, Ohio State has talent everywhere and earlier in the year, we had them first.
We ranked them preseason first and they've, they've scored their opposition 108 to 6.
But yet we dropped them a couple spots because of the play of Georgia.
And then Texas taken on a little better opponent.
But this Ohio State team has more star power than any team in the nation in college football.
They have the most star power when you watch them.
They got five stars everywhere and some of them are on the bench.
Number two, it is Texas and again, you kind of, you appreciate the fact that they scheduled
a road game at Michigan, the many national champions.
And then they took care of business and obviously it was a good spot as opposed to last year
going into Michigan and going this year is a little bit better.
But still, you scheduled the game, you're rewarded for the victory, don't you?
You do and I like, you know, as much as I was critical of the Michigan defense, for
giving up all those points when they were fresh.
You've got to reward Texas for scoring like they did against a defense that wasn't
on the field very long.
They just went and took it at him, scored the 26th and the first half.
So in my opinion, right now, Texas is exactly where they should be here too.
And they got Texas San Antonio tonight and UTSA had a rather tough loss last week, so
this looks like it would be a good one for Texas.
Yeah, you know, this Texas San Antonio team is underperforming.
They were picked to win the American and they have not played anything like they're going
to challenge for it.
And number one is Georgia and Georgia, the Tennessee Tech.
And it's an interesting game coming up tonight at Kentucky and Kentucky and they took
a lot of criticism.
Stoops took a lot of criticism after what happened last week.
I would expect a bounce back, but a bounce back maybe losing only by 20 to a team like
Georgia.
Yeah, but I think I think you'll get a good performance, a good effort by Kentucky because
the way they lost the South Carolina last week was kind of embarrassing, wasn't it?
And you know, game day was talking about they, they very well may be at this game had
Kentucky taken care of business against South Carolina, thinking they might be a stumbling
block for Georgia.
After that definitive loss, they, they came off that game and are now in Columbia.
So that is the top 25.
And again, if you miss any of the rankings or if you want to go deeper into some of the
rankings, you can do so at sulliescollegefootballpage.com.
We got about two minutes to go and now we're heading to kick off.
We are heading to the Badgers and the Alabama Quirms and Tyso to go basically back to where
we started this program.
You said during the 10 game challenge that if the Badgers could be within a score going
to the fourth quarter, that would be a good position to be in.
I think Madison will be rocking there, but I'm sure they already are right now.
Given the fact that Alabama is in their house, you know, and if they, Chad, if they can
get a one score game when they start with jump around, that's going to be as wild and
as loud as Madison may have been in years.
And then who knows in the fourth quarter, you know, you got to give yourself a puncture's
chance and, you know, like the simulator says, win the turnover battle, win that battle
and give your offense some short fields and maybe a good result comes up.
And frankly, this Wisconsin defense last couple of years has not looked the same.
And if you don't force turnovers, I have a hard time thinking they're going to completely
shut down in Alabama offense that puts up a lot of points.
Well, you know, people were kind of comparing a trussle to Leonard.
You got to remember, Trussle was doing that in the American.
Leonard was doing it in the Big Ten.
And that's a different kind of reality, a weekend and a week out when you're running
defenses against the teams that play in the Big Ten versus the American.
So three guys with your hands in the dirt, you know, and then how they use the linebackers,
you know, you're going to go three, three, five, are you going to make one of those
five, like a strong safety or an athletic linebacker.
So you're going to get more guys in the box, because I guarantee you that big old line
from Alabama is going to be running at them.
Well, it's time to watch.
It's time to see the badgers that start off another very busy college football Saturday,
enjoy the game, enjoy the rest of the day and night and we'll talk all about it next
week.
Well, we're off to a good start.
Chad always enjoys this morning.
And so, yeah, let's hope for a good result, Madison.
