Sully's College Football Show · Sat Sep 7, 2024

It's Southeast College football page on 98.9 WXCO, both fallsradio.com, multiple devices,

and Alexa by searching WXCO and on the Civic Media app.

It is our number two of the program and with Dan Sullivan, I'm Chad Holmes.

We always start things off at our number two as Sully will be going up against one of

his terrific sponsors and had a lot of fun last week and now we're doing it again this

week.

And Sully, who's on the hot seat here today?

Well, our guest today is Troy Champion.

Troy is the owner and CFO of Champion Insurance and a guy that we have known for many years,

great guy and does great work in the community.

So how are you doing, Troy?

I'm doing good.

Morning, guys.

How's it going?

Fantastic.

Hey, and before we get started, Troy, I just want to give a big shout out to our sponsors.

As a result of your willingness to partner with Sully's College football page, we were

able to reach our 2024 goal of donating $1,000 to volunteer private and charitable institutions

in our area and beyond.

These donations were awarded to the following.

Lager House, wounded warriors, the woman's community, Newman Catholic Schools, the Good

News Project, main volunteer fire department, humane society, not MS out of the park, Central

Wisconsin School of Ballet, the St. Vincent de Paul's Society, the National MS Society,

Children's Miracle Network, and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

So on behalf of these services, schools, charities, both falls radio and Sully's College football

page, we would like to give a simple thank you to all our sponsors for making these donations

possible.

So thank you for that, Troy.

We appreciate it, man.

Oh, Charlie.

And Troy, after all that nice stuff from Sully, before we put you on the hot seat to go

up against them head to head, would you like to maybe share a few of our listeners a

little bit about the champion insurance?

Well, you know, like Sully said, we've been around for a long time, we're a small family

own shop.

So when you call in, you're going to get to know us all very well.

We have different carriers that specialize in different businesses.

We've got our wonderful personal lines, carriers that we deal with.

So as you guys know, you know, rates are going up, so we're doing the best that we can

to try to find our customers the best rates and keep things in check.

Fantastic.

Well, Sully, are you ready to go head to head with Troy here on 10 of the biggest games

of the day?

Very nervous about Troy.

Very nervous about this.

Well, why don't we just start off with one of the biggest games of the day?

Of course, the Fenty National Champion Michigan against one of the final four from a year

ago, Texas.

Of course, Texas, one of the preseason favorites, SEC versus the Big Ten.

You talk about blue bloods.

They don't get more bluer blooded than these two programs.

So we'll start off with Troy.

What do you think?

Well, I think I'm going to go against the grain just a little bit.

I'm going to go with Michigan.

You're a brave man.

Hey, I think that this is a team and a program when Michigan can play with anybody and

they are at home.

So that's a good choice.

On the other hand, I just think that this Texas team is maybe just a little too balanced

this year.

Michigan's starting a quarterback to walk on.

Quinn Ayers is going to be playing on Sunday.

So I'm going to have to respectfully disagree here and Troy, I'm going to go with horns.

Our second game, Tennessee and North Carolina State.

Again, you like these matchups that involve teams from power conferences, testing themselves

instead of taking one of these smaller schools or you're being out the big check, Tennessee

and NC State.

First, let's go with Saltley this time.

All right.

I'm going to stay in the Southeastern Conference.

I'm going to say that Tennessee starts to get back some of their swagger that may have

been tarnished last week.

I like Tennessee in this game.

And Troy, what about you?

I'm going to agree with Saltley on that one.

I think Tennessee is going to have this one.

All right.

So we have one different and one the same through two games and up next, an actual conference

matchup.

We're seeing a few of these conference matchups from the Southeastern Conference.

You got South Carolina and Kentucky and the top of schools that were trying to work their

way into the conversation with some of the powerhouses of the SEC.

And this time, we'll start off with Troy.

Yeah.

Well, I'm going to try Kentucky.

OK.

I got to tell you, I'm with you on this.

I think Mark Stoops finds a way in this game.

They've been beating these guys pretty, pretty consistently, regularly.

And South Carolina, I don't know if you know this, but they were involved with some of

the shenanigans that was going on with Michigan through assistance.

And they did beat Kentucky last year and Clemson back-to-back.

So people were raising eyebrows about that.

I think Kentucky's going to be ready.

I like to catch.

Well, you took the words right on my mouth.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Our fourth game, when you have a game normally, in historical context between the Atlantic

Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, you think a couple of schools, pretty

close down in the Southeastern part of the country, that part of the world.

But now we have from the ACC, the California Golden Bears, and it's on the Atlantic Coast

Conference.

I'd like to call it the All Coast Conference.

Since now we have the East Coast and the West Coast being represented.

So the ACC and California taking on from the SEC Auburn, and this time around, it is

solid.

Can the Bears make that long trek east and give the Tigers a game?

In a one-word answer, no.

I think Auburn wins this game.

You freeze it in a second year.

This guy knows his way around this league, knows how to win.

He knows his way around the Nancy Double A rulebook as well.

Yeah, he's right up on that now, so I don't anticipate any more violations.

But anyway, Auburn's, you know, a year ago, this was a really competitive game, 14-10.

But I got to tell you, Troy, I think you freeze an Auburn.

And he said, too, that Golden Bears.

And Troy?

Yep.

I'm going to agree with him.

I'm going to go with Auburn myself.

Oh, you guys keep agreeing right here.

We've got to get some fireworks here.

Come on.

No, no.

It's a fifth game.

Another power matchup got from the Southeastern Conference, the Razorbacks of Arkansas,

and the Oklahoma State Cowboys from the Big 12 Conference.

Again, I'd like to see these.

This one, you know, actually two schools pretty close to each other, Arkansas, and Oklahoma,

pretty close down in the southern part of the country.

This time, I'll go with Troy first.

I am going to go with Oklahoma State.

I don't know.

Again, I suddenly know I'm not a huge college football, know it also, but I'm going to give

it Oklahoma State my shot.

Let's go to the college football, know it all in the summer.

Yeah, well, you know, you can always do, you know, what I do, try just make it up.

You know, just make it up.

Just say it with firmness, right?

Yes.

I got to tell you, I am going to part ways there or part ways.

I like Arkansas in this game.

Sam Pittman, their coach, is in a kind of a very difficult situation.

He's got to start producing there.

So I think the hogs have a sense of desperation that the Cowboys do not have at this point.

So I like Arkansas to get this done.

I have a feeling that you're going to be seeing the, there's a coach with a sense of,

you know, pressure and desperation a lot this year because there's so much pressure on

these coaches in this new college football landscape.

Again, our guest today is Troy Champion, owner and C, CFO of Champion Insurance.

Troy, again, well, before we get to the final five games of this challenge, anything

you'd like to add about Champion Insurance.

Well, again, you know, we offer full-person lines, auto home, boat, all that good stuff.

We also do a lot of commercial lines.

We do a lot of contractors, restaurants, you know, you name it.

We have enough companies to where we can really find the right niche for the right business

to help that business.

Not only get the best coverage you can get, but for the best price too.

Well, let's keep on going here into the second half of our challenge.

Again, I think a very interesting non-conference matchup in the Pacific Northwest has a

Boise State taking on Oregon, mounted west against the Big Ten.

And as Saul said earlier, Oregon, looking for that first win against Boise State in history.

And this time we'll start with Saul.

Yeah, you know, Troy, I got to tell you, I was really surprised when I saw that Oregon

had never beaten Boise.

I mean, I just kind of double-taken that one.

Anyway, these are two ranked teams.

You know, we ranked the power for separately from the group of five.

We have Boise II.

We have Oregon this week at 6th.

Oregon struggled last week.

I think they come out ready and I think they get their first win.

I can't believe I'm saying that, but nonetheless, their first win against Boise.

And Troy, your turn.

You see, again, I'm going to go with the Oregon.

I think he's, I think he's right on the money there.

Another great knockoffers game.

This is an interstate rivalry between Iowa State from the Big 12 and Iowa from the Big

Ten.

The old Sihock trophy is on the line for this one.

And we'll start with Troy.

I am going to go with the upset for Iowa State.

Well, I'll tell you what, I love their coach.

Maddie Campbell has done a great job over the years there.

Still an assuming guy, just with football games.

All that said, I'm saying no, Troy, I don't not agree.

I think Iowa just does what they seem to do to this cyclone team every year.

Stuff them on D.

And with McNamere there, maybe a little better or well, it couldn't be worse, but maybe

a little better on your offensive side.

So I'm going to go with Iowa.

You got Call the Rattle at Nebraska.

Call the Rattle fighting prime times against the Nebraska corn huskers, both one and all

on the young season, former conference foes now call the Rattle back in the Big 12 Nebraska

of course in the Big Ten.

And again, one of those major national TV matchups, Sully, what do you think?

Yeah, well, this game has a lot more history to it than most people would know, because

these teams were together in the Big 8.

They were together in the Big 12.

This is actually the 72nd time they have met on the gridiron.

Great game.

Maybe the most interesting game of the day because of Deon, you know, and the things that

tend to come out of his mouth, but I'm going to say that Nebraska does quiet him a bit.

I don't think it's possible to shut him up, but they're going to quiet Deon some.

So I like Nebraska, Troy and this game.

And Troy, what about you?

Another disagreement, I'm going to go with Colorado.

That will be a good one.

I think tonight that could go either way.

Our ninth game, get into the conference, the Big 10 conference, a conference matchup

as Michigan State travels to a college park.

Take on the Maryland Terrapins as one of these teams tries to get off to a good start in

the Big 10, a very different and tough Big 10 conference.

And Troy, what's your pick?

Well, I'm just doing this one for our friends, Billy, so I'm going to go with Maryland.

Ah, there you have it.

And you know what?

I'm right with you.

I think that Mike Loxley is doing a better job in recruiting in the front seven on

the and getting better play out of the offensive line.

He is always had skill.

I think they get Michigan State new coach there with Jonathan Smith.

I like Maryland and this game, Troy.

So I'm with you.

And then our tenth and final game and I would call overachieving programs in recent

years, Kansas State and Tulane, both one and all on the young season.

This game being played down in Nolens and we'll start off at Sully.

Yeah, you know, this game is really a difficult game to call Tulane.

A couple of years ago, as you remember, they beat SC in a bowl game, Kansas State, early

in the season, they are impossible to know much about because of the way they recruit

junior colleges.

I mean, they get a lot of JC players.

I'm going to go with Tulane.

I like their history.

They've kind of been pushed aside.

They were original members of the Southeast term conference.

Have a great history in football.

I think the green wave shows up big time here in the Kansas State game.

And Troy, your final pick.

Hey, I'm going to go opposite again.

I'm going to go with Kansas State tonight.

I'm still waiting for Sully to pick an upset.

I don't think I've heard an upset from him yet here.

Well, I think Kansas State's favorite in this game, not by much, but I think they are.

Okay.

Well, that is all 10.

And how do you guys feel about it?

Who's going to take this one?

Well, you know, Troy's into big time business decisions here with getting people set and

taking care of with insurance.

So it's very challenging to try to figure out if your pick is more secure.

So we'll just have to wait and see what develops there.

Troy, what's your final word?

I'm going to keep close track of this one, Sully.

But no, I always love being on the show.

It's always a great time.

And it's going to be a great day to watch football, no doubt.

Any final thoughts for Troy, Sully?

Yeah.

I appreciate, you know, you've been with us since the beginning and appreciate, you know,

all the support that you've provided and, amen, you're doing great work in the community.

I know you were a volunteer firefighter and have done things in your part of the marathon

county here.

So thank you for all the good things you do.

Okay.

Appreciate that.

Like I said, it's always a great time to be on the show.

We'll see what happens today.

I'm going to keep track.

I'm going to, I'm going to put yours against mine.

We're going to see you wins this time.

All right.

With Salt East College football page on 98.9 WXL and again you may tune in here on Saturday

mornings but you can go to Salt East College football page on the web each and every week

and there's so much information on every college football team around the country and

against all give the background where do you go what do you get at Salt East College

football page?

We started a site in 2009 and on the site we have a team page which has more detail

as you would imagine and a conference page which covers the reason we did that was so as

that you could look on one page at who has played who is the conference race's start to

develop here and so you can get a more detailed look on the team page a more general view

of what's going on in the conference on that page.

We have a game list you can click on that and say you're interested in the badgers.

You could just fill in for the team just hit the scroll bar and it'll be a drop down

menu and you just hit Wisconsin and generally give you every game they've played since 2009.

So 12 times whatever that 25 or 20 or 12, 13 years I guess and then we have a head-to-head

page which a lot of people like to go it'll look at the interaction of these teams eight

ways and then it'll actually give you a winner.

So if you ask it if Alabama plays Auburn who wins and it will do that for you and then

we have a blog where we comment on various things going on and so in general that the site

has been kind of the precursor to the radio and we try to drive traffic from the site to the

broadcast and then from the broadcast we try to get people to go back and kind of check out

again sulliescollegefootballpage.com sulliescollegefootballpage.com check it out get all that great

information and just have a lot of fun going around and learning a lot of these different teams

and one of the things you do as well is rankings for not only the the the power for you have the

FCS and the group of five and let's talk about the rankings folks we'll see first with the

football championship subdivision the FCS top five you have Idaho of course played Oregon

last week at number five you have Villanova at number four Montana number three North Dakota

State number two in South Dakota State number one so let's delve into those top teams in the FCS.

Yeah and you know and interestingly here three of our five three of our top five teams lost

last week because they played up and so what we try to do is to have more of an insight

than just record you know the fact that you know South Dakota State took on a very good Oklahoma

state who's in a big game today with Arkansas the fact that North Dakota State took on Colorado

who is in a very big FPS battle with Nebraska Montana played down they beat Missouri State 2924

good team out of the Missouri Valley Villanova one they beat another good team out of the Missouri

Valley they beat young sound state and then Idaho may have played the best most interesting game

from the FCS taken Oregon into the fourth quarter 17 to 14 so we think those teams are in

the right spot even though three of them are zero for one this so far this year and then you

have the group of five and of course you've talked about a lot about the fact that the gap grows

between the big money power conferences and then everybody else in in college football so

you give a separate set of rankings for the group of five and starting at number 10 it's James

Madison they're one in all after beating Charlotte yeah you know a very good team out of the sun

belt they played their way up through the FCS they were in the what was then the colonial athletic

conference today it's the coastal athletic conference but a very good team and have played some

really good football in the in the sun belt Texas San Antonio one in all on the season from the

American Athletic Conference they beat Kennesaw State to open things up and they have a almost a

pick-up game coming up against Texas State they do you know Kennesaw State is new to the to the

FBS they're in the conference USA and for those of you who are wondering they're in Georgia

their home state is Georgia many picked UTSA to win the American which is often regarded as the

best or if not the best one of the best conferences in the group of five so it should be an interesting

game as Texas State this year one of the 12 mind you 12 teams that play division one football in the

FBS in Texas and one of the teams often seen in the group of five a top 10 there's Air Force from

the mountain west they're one at all yeah I click Elhoon Ben there for I'd say 12 to 15 years

outstanding coach Air Force last year I went into to the Army game having won eight straight

games lost that game and then kind of went into a nose dive lost the next three and then

righted themselves in the bowl by beating a team that we were just talking about James Madison

so very good team and very capable when they play up against the p5 or p14 17 years for Troy

Calhoun at Air Force I'm really flies on by you got another mountain west team at number seven

you know V yeah you know I was surprised that's Barry Odom he had a good run at Missouri and then

I think he had some health issues great to see him back at it again and I was surprised that they

went in and took care of Willie Francis teams Willie's first year at Houston but a big win for UNLV

and I'll tell you Barry Odom I got that team to a bowl and I believe it tied for the most wins

they've had in quite a long time you mentioned Willie Fritz his old team Tulane is number six on

the group of five yeah you know and they're in a big game with Kansas State today Tulane has so

much football history that people up here just don't know about you know they were they were in

the southeastern conference then they were in the Metro and they you know they have always been

highly regarded in football now they play often teams from the SCC and unlike some of these

other games with southeastern conference teams people have a different feeling about Tulane

down there because they know there is number five is a team that has an opportunity to move

way up if things go the right way but it's got to be easy south florida yeah they they are in the

in the time of resurrection here they they have been bad for any number of years

Alex Goulish is the coach there now and they had a good year a year ago looked really good in

the opening game today however they are taking on Alabama so it's going to be a challenge for them

but I'll tell you what these Florida kids they will not back up so it'll be an interesting game at

least for a quarter or so another school that you have highly ranked in the group of five that's

going to step up and face one of those power four power houses is appellation stated number four

yeah you know and they're running in the Clemson at a bad time you know uh damn will keep

getting beat up about the transfer portal uh Clemson is way better than people are giving

them credit for it and Georgia may be way better you know so as a result uh they they did get kind

of run on uh a week ago but at halftime that score was six to three so they were right there uh

number three liberty liberty wanted all of their outstanding twenty twenty three you still have

them way up here for twenty twenty four and they they had a great year got to the new year six day

bowl unfortunately they ran into an Oregon team that was not related to the Oregon team from a

week ago and uh you know they they went into that game thirteen and all and I really took one on a

chin I think it ended up forty two to six so they struggled in that game but this nonetheless is a

good program number two boys these states again as a team that maybe you're ahead of the curve on

in terms of resurrecting to where they used to be well you know and I'll tell you uh Georgia's

southern uh put forty five out of them last week so uh that game was fifty six forty five boys

you win and yet Georgia's southern came after so you you got to wonder now about Oregon

refocusing and then boys he giving up that many points to Georgia's southern how that's all

going to translate in today's uh in today's game so I got to tell you from a football standpoint

you want to tune in to that when it's tonight at nine o'clock on peacock and number one

Memphis and they got off to a very impressive start with the shuttle win against North Alabama

yeah you know they're playing Troy another team out of the uh sunbelt very good team

Troy located in Alabama in fact one of my uh one of my high school buddies went there to uh to

try to play I didn't even know where he was going I asked him where it was in Alabama and they

they have been very good program I struggling a little bit in their first game and I think

Memphis you know there are preseason pick to get to the new year six uh uh bowl game this year

so there you have it the uh top teams in both the FCS and the group of five and again you can get

more information on those uh groups uh of college football programs by going to sulleys college

football page dot com coming up next we're going to go to the power four yep uh power four conferences

in the top 25 as counted down by sulleys college football page that's coming up next here on 98.9

with always some very interesting 11 o'clock games and now time to look at the power four top 25

again this is not the AP it's not the coaches poll it's sulleyscolleysfootball rankings again just

for the power conferences the conferences that basically are the ones that are expected to battle

for the national championship and to start things off despite their scare last week you still have

Wisconsin in there at number 25 yeah there was there was enough last week to keep them here uh

I think that they're they're they're going to develop the D line and I think their back seven is

really going to win some games in the big ten we'll see as we go forward their offensive line is

massive you know and then they've just got to decide if they're going to focus in the running

now Chad I counted I didn't see a lot of pre snap shifting which I've kind of complained to you

about you know that's what I was looking for because that's what Longgo did at North Carolina but

not that but I counted in the first 14 plays nine different looks you know they come out with three

right they come out balanced you know a split and a slot then they'd come out with two splits and

two tight wings you know each back sitting right off the tackle sometimes two backs sometimes one

with the quarterback then they would shift to like an inverted bone look like a you know the old

pistol but with two backs sitting there so man they are showing all kinds of looks and so maybe

what Longgo has decided to do is if if he's not comfortable with putting them in these pre snap

shifts just to give the defense a lot of different looks initially and then go to motion or not

but anyway yeah I like the bathroom number 24 Vanderbilt don't see them very often in the rankings

no and how about a big win and over time over Virginia Tech one of the kind of the dark courses

in the ACC couldn't be happier for a guy like Clark Leah great coach really good coach went

to Vanderbilt taking a shot to go down there and was really happy about that win and they're going

to beat Alcorn State today so Vandy is going to be two and over after two weeks number 23 Arizona put

up a big number of points last week in their opener yeah the concern is they gave up six there

are 39 points to New Mexico and this is not Jerry Kells New Mexico State which was a little better

on the last few years so yes the 61 is impressive but the 39 is more concerning than the 61

number 22 Iowa they were able to win their opener they had the defense we come to know and

respect after maybe a bit of a slower start first half they were able to put up 32 points with

their new offense a coordinator in the second half and they were without Kirk Ference last week

as well so it's not a bad start yeah they scored the majority of these points in the second half

you know they were struggling the first half big game today with Iowa State this game

230 kickoff on CBS and Paramount so this is always an entertaining game one of the teams that you've

said so far this season you're keeping an eye on to see if they can make a jump as a traditional

power Nebraska at number 21 big game today we've talked about it on a couple of cases today with

Colorado Nebraska is a six and a half point favorite it's on peacock tonight at NBC at 630 I think

this is one of the games that is going to be most watched this weekend number 20 and I think a

lot of criticism all there after last week with Clemson I mean again you lose the Georgia

which is expected but boy I think a lot of the national media is real and again I've not been

somebody that's been a huge dabble sweening fan over the years I think he gets a little bit of

no uppity when it comes to you know himself and everything else but boy they he's getting

pounded on because he refuses to become one of these guys who goes out there and tries to get a

senior quarterback pay them a lot of money to come in he is not a guy who believes in the transfer

portal he stands by it and it just feels as though he's getting a lot of criticism like

the game is passing them by when he's still got a very good program but number 20 Clemson

yeah you know and look he is missed on some quarterbacks he had Watson he had Laurence I mean

he had some of the best quarterbacks you know someone you know those guys are generational

yeah you know the the reality is the quarterback play has not been the same and the receivers

are not as good as they have been so he's missed in the recruiting and you know you go into

with these high school kids and you know you he was hitting the ball out of the park there for a

while now people are critical of him because they're saying hey if you do miss then get in the

portal he's talking about his loyalty as to his players it's it's commendable and I hope it

works you know I think that he's at risk though with the number 19 Texas A&M they had that

opportunity against Notre Dame last week with that massive crowd and college station but lost

so they start off the new era on one but they're still number 19 yeah you know uh

Notre Dame is is very good defensively uh the Wigman really struggled against that D to kid

hadn't played like four games a year ago and then he was out and so this was his first game back

in about a year look for them to get better uh they got uh and they're going to start today with

easy state of team out of the Southland number 18 is LSU uh lost a southern cow last week

and Brian Kelly was very frustrated afterwards you know the audience on the uh podium

the only thing I mean with all due respect to Brian Kelly I don't know if you saw that but it

looked fake you know my my son said the only thing that he needed to do was uh use his

fake son but I and I will say that your son does not like anything about Brian Kelly

there is that so I gotta take that into consideration yeah my son a big

no he's not but you know the the reality is it I saw it it didn't look a little orchestrated

the um the reality of it is no that fan based down there I mean they can get hostile pretty quick

so I think Kelly was kind of turning it in front of him we saw it a number of years ago with

Les Miles he you know he he wanted all did it take very long for them to get tired of him and

push them right off the door does it and how about any ords run he went national justice it was

gone in two years so Kelly needs to do uh do a about turn here and get this program going that's

the fifth year they've lost their opening game in a row number 17 is actually we'll pick it

up a little bit here we'll go two at a time because they're both big 12 teams Kansas State number

17 talked about their big game against Tulane and then number 16 Oklahoma State two big games

Tulane Arkansas uh two old style one current but SEC coming on taking on the big 12 these

gonna be fun games number 15 is Utah and again some I you know those those silly

playoff previews we saw earlier I think they had to make number three you have them at number 15

yeah you know Kyle winning him is one of the the best kept secrets in the country great coach

and you know Dave Renda down at Baylor this is going to be a game where there's gonna be a lot

of cerebral moves made from the coaches should be a fun game you got 14 and 13 you got

Michigan we taught quite a bit about their game coming up against Texas and then you got

Oklahoma and they started off with a good win against temple and that good for Willie Fritz they

got the Oklahoma coming up yeah Willie's got Oklahoma coming in and historically Houston that's a

little bit of a bite of the apple it might be beyond their skill sets so I don't see I don't see

Willie getting it going this week that's actually a Houston favor game because Oklahoma be leaving

for the SEC kind of led Houston to be coming into the big 12 right yeah well they were in it

together for that one year but the move was made because they knew Oklahoma was leaving no question

about it now you've got eight new teams in the big 12 since two years ago and then you got

Tennessee at number 12 yeah you know they hammered Chattanooga 69 and three big game with NC state

NC state kind of a dark horse struggled last week in their in their game but then eventually got

away from it this is a game that's being talked about a lot on the national level and I think one

of the most impressive teams last week was Miami and to go into Gainesville in that rivalry within

the state of Florida and just pound the Florida Gators and number 11 maybe based on what we saw

last week a team that could be moving up as we get further into the season yeah I can't word play

to Washington state not a lot of people are aware of them but people out there certainly knew

how good he was and man he came out to the scene with the splash people all across the country are

talking about him a lot of powerhouses you got to talk about when you get to the top 10 of the

power for and we'll do that coming up next number 10 through number one you're on Southeast

hey it's all these college football page again every Saturday morning we start off your

college football Saturday and today it feels like college football sunny skies temperatures

not expect to get much more than about 62 degrees here in central Wisconsin so it is football time

before we get hot again but next week but when you've walked here to the station today and come

on in it feels like football and again we take you right up to kick off and again not too long to

kick off about a little less than 15 minutes until 11 o'clock in the start of another college

football Saturday and again it's a run up isn't it it's a run up early on we see some you know

matchups that are not the most competitive but now we're starting to see some conference

activity it should be a very fun Saturday yeah and we got here in about about 12 minutes we've

got the Texas Michigan kickoff so I want a great way to start today and then there are plenty of

games throughout that I think are games of interest well let's get into the top 10 again this is

sully's college football page power four top 10 and number 10 is USC and again one of the impressive

wins so well last week was there a victory over LSU yeah great game I mean really so the

probably the catch of the year was made again when I'm grabbed that thing one handed and then

made another great catch held on their ball in spite of the targeting that he experienced so

SC what an outstanding receiver room they have they have the best receiving them right now in

the country or at least arguably so Penn State at number nine and again you talk about really

good nine conference wins and I think that one ranks right up there when they beat West Virginia

34 to 12 well if they can get some chunk plays you know and they're running backs you know

singleton and Allen our top shelf and then you know with all our plan better throwing a ball

willingness to throw it down the field and their defense is elite this is a team that can make

a lot of noise in the big 10 number eight the Missouri and again they were hoping to sell out

against Murray State if they did sell out they saw a big overwhelming win 51 nothing but the

Mizzou Tigers right there at number eight yeah they're playing Buffalo today and not much of a

challenge for them of things go according to oil so I think drink with this big challenge today

is make sure these guys are focused and make sure the folks come by and I don't think it's

yes number seven the Oregon ducks and again I will try to avoid making the grand comments about

Oregon after saying it was a glorified scrimmage against I know hole last week and again the big

number that jumped out is they only scored 24 points again we are so used to Oregon with their

you know great athletes being able to go up and down the field it's got a lot of points but

yeah I mean we've seen this before I mean sometimes early in the season it can be a lack of focus

these guys know they're expected to win by massive amounts yeah I wouldn't over sell what happened

last week but then again you do notice it yeah well you know it's hard not to you know check

given the perspective that we all have of them and the perception of speed everywhere you know

and now you're in with Idaho and you can't get separation it was bizarre I think that's all

bad for Boise because I think they're going to retool refocus and as good as Boise is they're

going to I think they're going to struggle today. Notre Dame number six and I was reading some

articles that said basically that that was the probably the toughest game they're going to play

I mean maybe not USC now if USC gets back to where they they normally are that obviously will

be a tough game but in terms of the big hurdles this season to get number one into the playoff

and the number two have a good playoff seed that was a huge win last week for them wasn't it?

Well you know when you looked at it and you said okay there are four real challenging games

under schedule Louisville Florida State which doesn't look so challenging now but it may be

still may be yes and then SC you thought okay A&M is as good as those teams and A&M is going to be

in front of a hundred and eight thousand screaming you know I remember when the the guy from

Washington State who's passed away Mike Leach thank you he would say this ain't no military school

and third military I'm a pirate yes but I'll tell you that yes he did and I'll tell you that

environment was really something else big win Freddie Irish and I'm with you they they may have

cleared their biggest hurdle but it certainly doesn't mean like you were ridiculing ESPN you

still have to play the games right and you want to be of one of those top seats you want to be

able to you know that's a very least play at home early in the first round or you get those

thighs and everything else so so there is still even if you feel like you're in the playoffs you

want to be as high up as possible definitely number five Alabama they got off to a good start

in the post Nick Saban era with a whip down of western Kentucky and of course they're getting

ready for their trip north of very very soon but before they head to Madison they do have self

Florida but number five Flint and Tide yeah you know western Kentucky is a good program you know

Tyson Hilton yeah Clay's brother coach there so that this team has made some noise not to

suggest that it's a SEC caliber team but it's a good team and Bama went in there and just took

him apart no lack of focus here from them and they went after it and South Florida is a step

up from western Kentucky so we'll see what Bama's got and we'll get a better look at some resistance

today number four also from the southeastern conference and we're going to say that quite a bit

coming down the stretch of these rankings is Ole Miss and they you know that what's your

coach's name again who's that Mississippi oh Kiffin Lane he is not known for taking his foot off

the accelerator and Furman found that out last week yeah well 76 to nothing Furman is a pretty good

team in the socon but they were way overmixed and I'm going to tell you Chad and I know I'm a minority

here but I'm going to tell you I think Jackson Dart the quarterback at Ole Miss is better than

Georgia's quarterback Carson Beck now I know that's not necessarily agreed with but if you watch

those guys play if you get a chance watch that kid play he is a true a true dual threat and throws

lasers and he's got great feet this kid I didn't see this game but I bet he was the difference maker

number three down a spot Ohio State after they're winning against Akron getting separate

western Michigan tonight but the only head non SEC team breaking up the SEC top five party

yeah well you know when you look at this the only team that's not in the southeastern conference

or the big 10 it's Notre Dame that's in the top 10 so when we were talking last week and you

were pointing out that it really has a power too I mean if you look at this you'd have to concur

that's what it is you know Ohio State struggled you know in the first half against Akron I mean

that should not have been be interesting western Michigan coming off given Wisconsin a battle

maybe we can get a little precursor to what we're like compared to what Ohio State you know does

in this game absolutely number two Texas and again boy it's a loaded Texas lock on squad they

be Colorado State 52 nothing archmaning got some experience as the backup quarterback last

week I saw some writing some about that and of course they get an opportunity and it really

is a great opportunity to go into the big house against Michigan coming up here in mere moments

yeah and you know this manning Quinn he was really speaks to NIL because there is no way

in Hades that manning would stay there if he wasn't making over a million dollars to kind of keep

going keep the talk time go hold the clipboard yeah that too you know so yeah Texas Michigan we got

about five minutes here and we're going to get that baby going absolutely and then still the number

one team in America and boy I think when we've done these rankings for most weeks last couple of

years it's been Georgia Georgia Georgia and Georgia again they had a terrific non-conference opponent

last week they took care of business against Clemson poor Tennessee tech I'm hoping the check is

nice and big for them but Georgia again boy I mean they have really officially I think taken over

as the most consistent top program in America I haven't they they certainly have except they

can't beat Alabama that's the last nine times these teams have played Alabama has one eight and

you know I guess I guess real fast before you continue I guess then that does mean that Alabama

so the top program in America overall yeah well you know I mean I'm just less quick if that's

proper English to to annoy them that because I know what they've done in that family game right and

you know Georgia is great people say well yeah well they were winning well they were playing also

in the SEC East and you and I know there is a distinction between the SEC East and the SEC West

that's right and so yes I would agree and for the most part but I'll tell you if they play Alabama

when it matters or for whatever if they play them I would not dismiss Alabama coming out on top

so there you have it the power five I should see I knew we're going to make that

but the power four top 25 rankings and again the top five Alabama Ole Miss Ohio State Texas

and then number one is Georgia we got about two minutes to go here as we go into the into another

Saturday as we as you get ready I mean what what are the games they're going to keep you glued to

your seat from 11 a.m. until well after midnight yeah well you know I have to record 264 games

or teams that are playing today so I got to tell you I've had a lot of my time is working off ESPN

you know the game stats to enter them on the hard side and so I see things periodically

but certain teams I watch like I will watch the Badgers you know I will watch the Irish and then

games today that's Michigan Texas game and I'm definitely going to tune in to color out on the

brass guy I think that's a very interesting game it's kind of like you know athleticism versus skill

sets you know Shander Sanders Sardir Sanders other he that kid last week was off the charts good

he'd move around and keep his eyes down the field you know we always say extend before you escape

he he is the poster child for that he is always looking to advance the ball through the year

then I'd rather than with his feet so he's fun to watch Hunter I do think they're doing him a

disservice that's my humble opinion playing him that much human body can only take so many hits

and I know the end did both sides but not every play you know maybe maybe you can play him when

it gets inside the 20 or maybe you can put him in and passing situations something that

well it's going to be a very exciting Saturday afternoon and evening and check out again
