Hello world, welcome to WFHR's rapid support probably brought you by Crockett Sceptic, but
this August 28th, 2025, we're welcome to this show and thank you so much for joining us
because we're here to talk to some of our friends, family, really, I almost did it.
Steven Hittner is with us today, I was going to say, I'm so used to saying you and your
sister, I'm so used to saying you and Kat, but yep, just Steven and I today, and this
is going to be fun man, we don't get to do this very often.
Yeah, we always have a good time, Katrina kind of reigns us in, so prepare yourselves.
That's the catch.
Yes, we have to focus and lock in at our jobs because if you would I get talking, I have
a feeling this could turn into a podcast about a billion other things.
Oh yeah.
But we're going to cover some really good stuff.
We always do and with Katrina, we of course do as well, but I think it'll be a fun one.
I'm looking forward to it here.
We have some fun events coming up over at the shop.
Let's start there.
Good place to start.
A couple months ago, we did an olive oil tasting.
That was a really fun event.
That was in July.
But coming up here, we've got an herb walk and that's going to be on September 16th at
4.30 pm and that's going to be at Red Sand Beach.
Most of our talks are at our store or adjacent to our store, but this one, we got to go out
in nature and Red Sand Beach is nice, easy parking.
We'll meet by the pavilion there, kind of everybody locally knows where that is or you
can look it up.
And then we'll just walk around, it'll be myself, Katrina and Jamie, who works for us.
Jamie's a retired gym teacher, but she's always loved herbalism.
She's taking a number of courses in it.
She has a lot of land and she makes a lot of her own herbs.
So we did this last year and it was a big hit.
We had like, I don't know, it was like a little parade of people walking around Red
Sand Beach, everyone who was in part of it was probably like, what do they do?
Just staring at the ground, digging things up.
I don't know.
We didn't actually dig much stuff up.
We were just kind of like identifying herbs and we're going to do a lot more of that this
time too.
And we kind of chose September because last time we did it, I think kind of early or summer
midsummer and Jamie one time told me this and I love this just to kind of blew my mind.
She said, in the summer, every day there's a new flower that blooms, a different flower.
That's amazing.
It's really amazing to think of.
Sorry, yeah.
That's really going to stop and think about that for a minute.
Every day it's a different one.
So, you know, these people who like Jamie and myself and others who spend time observing
nature and utilizing it for their health and various things, you start to see these patterns
and they kind of repeat every year.
They have a little variety.
But, you know, seeing those patterns and identifying it and then, you know, kind of living it, it
gives you an extra appreciation.
And this is all around us.
You know, we're not going to a curated farm.
This isn't a lavender field in Door County.
This is Lake Quiziccia.
We've all been there.
It's a county park.
It's a beautiful asset we have in the community.
But it's not growing.
You know, it's not an herbalist, you know, destination.
But kind of our point is, you know, everything can be in herbalist destination.
Your backyard, your neighbor's backyard with permission, of course.
And, you know, I think being honest about this too, you wanted to think there are, I love
these events and these presentations you guys do.
There are never any downsides of them, much like the products that you guys sell.
When it comes to something like this, this is a field trip.
This is a field trip.
We don't get to do field trips as adults very often.
Here's a field trip for you and the staff and certainly our community get on out here.
Oh, I got to do this.
I'm going out and you get out, you get a walk in.
I know so many Wisconsinites take a lot of pride in being able to notice what something
is and point it out in that.
Here you can extend that a little bit where you're learning to do what you could can
maybe maybe can't do with some of these great things that nature is giving us.
Yeah, Jamie wants to get into a little bit of like what you do with some of these herbs
or when you harvest them kind of the next level since last year we focus mostly on identifying
them.
But yeah, we'll do a little bit of both.
It'll be a lot of fun.
So that's coming up again on September 16th, 4.30pm Red Sands Beach.
Yeah, bring a friend or some last year people brought some of their kids or grandkids.
Yeah.
There's like some middle schoolers there too.
They were really into it as well.
So nice opportunity to be outside and there's a park next, you know, right there too.
So kids get bored.
They can do that.
Yeah.
Then after that following that event in October, the third and fourth, we have our 79
anniversary sale.
79.
We always have a lot of fun.
I'm always really amazed and humbled by the amount of people who come out to celebrate
with us and to appreciate all the, you know, way of sales and door prizes and, you know,
free samples, all sorts of fun stuff.
But it'll be on October 3rd and 4th.
We'll talk more about it before it comes.
We've also got some more talks we're working on, which actually comes to another product
I brought here today that will we've got the somebody coming to speak about that.
We haven't nailed down a date yet, but it's in the works.
That's cool.
I have to say of all the things you guys do over there, the only thing that I would even
come close to nitpicking or critiquing, you do not sell, give yourself enough credit.
This anniversary sale is the greatest that I see.
I'm not saying it is.
I'm saying from my opinion and from my perspective, I never see anybody go all out like you guys
do with these things.
You really make your customers feel special, unique and appreciated.
It's a reason why not only you guys are celebrating 79 years, but why you have so many repeat
people and some return people.
Somebody like my mom, who may be by every six months or something like that, is still
constantly a billboard for a family natural food.
And any chance to mention you guys and stuff.
But that's built.
That's something that is earned.
You guys have earned over the years.
It's taken 79 years.
And I think you got there.
Yeah, exactly.
Every year, we try something new for this anniversary event and we always have fun with
it.
Well, actually, for a couple of years, we got so many samples.
We didn't know what to do with them.
We had a wheelbarrow on the back.
It's probably my grandfather bought it at one point.
I don't know what he used it for.
Everybody's got to have a wheelbarrow.
Yeah, we've used it for various things over the years, but it's one year we had so many
samples.
We just dumped them all in this wheelbarrow and we said, hey, we have a wheelbarrow
sample is here and it was literally like somewhat heaping full of samples and people love
it.
They dug into it.
That's really good.
And maybe we'll bring that back this year.
We'll see how many samples we have, a lot of companies we work with that love sending
us to.
It's also a great opportunity to stop on by because it's such a social event as well.
So many people come on by.
It's a great chance to even come down and do that and say that there's a product that
you've heard talking about us with family natural foods or there's something that you
yourself have been thinking about, what better opportunity come on down, ask them about
it, maybe pick one up and sample and find out.
It's our most comprehensive sale that we have of the year for those two days at Friday
and Saturday.
So it's a great opportunity to come down for that.
But like you said, there's a social element.
I've noticed in the last couple of years, especially since we've been doing it for two
days instead of we used to just do it for Friday, but now we like to include the Saturday.
What I've noticed is a lot of people, they come back the next day and they bring their
sister, their cousin, or their neighbor, their friend, or all those people.
And they come again because they're like, hey, I got to show this person this, and we
have different things happening both days.
So there's a reason to come both days if you're in the neighborhood.
It's a lot of fun.
We'll have more details on it, but definitely put it on your calendar.
It's October 3rd and 4th.
It's a Saturday and a Sunday, or sorry, Friday and Saturday, and a normal business hours
for both those days.
Yeah.
And we'll be talking about it here and we'll certainly have you guys back next month and
talk about it a little bit more.
Look forward to it though.
It's going to be great.
Yeah.
I know that one of the topics we want to get into today, Steven, involves one that we don't
really cover that much in a society, but is an important one.
And there are very few people out there listening that it doesn't affect.
And if it doesn't affect you right now, more power to you, it probably will eventually.
Or maybe we can help you keep it from happening to eventually.
Because while I am nocturnal and I am an insomniac and I don't sleep nearly enough, even
I, with the two to four hours of sleep, I get a night, wake up in the middle of the night
to have to run to the bathroom.
Which is almost unfair, it feels like.
If I was sleeping six or eight hours, I'd get it, but that's not right.
But regardless of that, even I'm affected by this.
I'm pretty sure, as far as things that affect most human beings, this is one of those
one top, top things that almost everybody can relate to, and urinary health and frequency
in some of that.
Yeah.
So, yeah, the product, I think it's important to talk about because people aren't always
interested in asking about this, but like you said, James, like people either have this
problem, they may have this problem in the future, or they know somebody does.
And as an aside, we sell this product also for pets.
So perhaps you've got a dog, you're like, well, not for me, but I've got a dog, you know,
nobody really likes getting up in the middle of the night till they're dog out.
I had a puppy, and at the time, the puppy obviously didn't have this, the same sort of problem,
it was, it's more of an older dog problem.
But, you know, the dog had to go out in the middle of the night.
At the time, when we had this dog, we were living in an apartment on the second floor.
Oh.
Oh.
Yeah.
And, you know, I guess I probably would have even tried this on that puppy if I had it
at the time, because I would have been like, I do not want to get up, you know, put, you
know, put shoes on, you know, put what, you know, like basically get to rest, put shoes
on, and then walk down the steps, go outside, it was a winter as well, of course.
Of course.
Yeah.
And then let this puppy outside, I don't know, two or three times anyways.
He's a champ now, but in the future, if I need this, I'm looking forward to knowing
that this is a quiver I can pull for the, for my dog as well as, you know, any family
members or myself who may need it.
But, you're in a frequency, so having to wake up in the middle of the night, or maybe
throughout the day time as well, I can work both ways to go to the bathroom.
It's, it's very inconvenient.
And it's, you know, it can interrupt our sleep, which certainly, James, you understand
the value of sleep more than anyone does.
Yeah.
When it comes to something like this too, Steven, I don't want to cut you off on your
flow here, but, you know, pun intended, but it did make me think of something else about
this too.
And, and this is something that we do so much, another relatable thing.
Oh, I, I'm, did my body's doing this new thing, but I'm just going to roll with it, because
I don't have to go to the hospital for it, or I don't have to make a doctor's appointment
about it.
So it doesn't seem like it's that big of a deal.
We treat our bodies often like our vehicles.
Like noise?
Well, my car's still starting.
So I'm fine.
Whatever that mystery noise is, ah, I'll worry about it later.
I got too much going on.
I have too many things happening.
And we just assume that we're just supposed to, well, we're going to have aches and pains
as we get older.
Yeah.
But we don't have to have these things.
Yeah.
So that's, that's a great reminder.
And so this product, we've actually got two products for, for bladder health.
They can be used by men or women.
The reason I mentioned that is men sometimes have bladder issues related to prostate health.
And so for men in particular, it could be better to start with a prostate health product,
especially if you're older in age, or you have a family history of prostate issues.
Start with that, or start with both of them together.
There's certainly no harm in doing that.
The product I'm talking about in particular today has a money back guarantee.
So here's another thing.
You can try it.
If it doesn't work, you bring it back, you get your money back.
And that's why I like that we have two different products.
If one doesn't work, the other one usually does.
They're different formulas, but working on the same thing.
So they did a study on this, and I'll just just give you the quick details, and that's
really all you need to know is this.
So in the subgroup with the bladder capacity, less than 260 milliliters, those taking this
product saw an increase of over 170 percent in bladder capacity versus the placebo group.
So over 100, closer to 200 percent, bladder capacity increase compared to the placebo
group, really remarkable.
And for these folks that were waking up in the middle of the night, it reduced the trips
to the bathroom by 48 percent.
Wow.
It's almost a half.
Yeah.
You're really waking up four times in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
Now maybe you're waking up twice, or if you waked up two times during the night, it's
maybe one time.
You know, a lot of improvement in real game-changing, a lot of opportunity to get more sleep,
not interrupted, and to feel more comfortable.
So this has been a really great product.
It also, you know, just incontinence, it can also help with, you know, maybe potential
bed wetting and things like that.
But come in, you know, we have free information, I brought that in, that's what I was reading
this from.
You can read about this.
It's on sale.
It's going to be on sale through September.
So stop in and, you know, again, check it out.
It's on sale, money back guarantee, there's really no risk to try in this and see if it
improves your life.
When it comes to asking for a hand, or even asking the time, Midwesterners can be
difficult about that.
We have a difficulty even asking somebody the time, let alone something like this, let's
change that narrative.
We, I've touched on this a lot in our shows.
We are in a point in society where we can do that.
We can start changing narratives and rewiring society's brain on this stuff, whether we're
talking about prostate and getting checked, or we're talking about something like this.
I personally think that we need to make this a very, especially with certain people,
and we're talking about guys in a lot of ways that won't talk about these things or ask
for help, or get a prostate exam, or something like that.
I think we need to flip the script on this, and one of the more manly things you can do
is getting these things done, because we're losing too many people, just to be blunt about
it.
We've lost way too many people.
In my own life, I've lost at least three people to prostate cancer.
It's ridiculous that so many people we lose, because we're afraid, or we're just shy
about asking about something, you know, and that's, to me, is too many.
One too many.
Way too many.
And especially with something like this, we're again.
This isn't something you have to deal with.
You can get help for something like this, and there are products available.
Asking one simple question makes it so much easier.
You get the ball, that icebreaker.
You bring it up, and I almost promise you that the rest of the conversation goes so much
easier, if you can just get that one, you know, breakthrough, and get to the topic.
Well, and as a reminder, this works for men and women.
It's not only for prostate health, but it works on that issue of urinary frequency.
Like you're saying, James, it's important, if you're a man, to check in on the prostate
health issue, keep an eye on a lot of the cancers out there are slow growing, which is, you
know, nice, better than fast growing, obviously.
But you know, you want to stay on top of those things, especially if you have a family
history or any issues, but there are a lot of, you know, especially for those ones that
are slower developing, there's a lot of great natural products to kind of, you know, even
make it slower.
You know, prevention is, what is it, I want some preventions, we're the pounded cure.
I mean, there's a lot of stuff we can do to kind of mitigate these issues.
So yeah, feel free to stop in, a lot of great products in all fronts, urinary frequency,
prostate health, et cetera.
Sometimes if it's easier on the phone and you're not face to face, asking these questions,
encourage you to call in as well, we'll give you that information before we wrap up.
We're Stephen, we're speaking with our friend Stephen from Family Natural Foods, Stephen
and Stephen, they just went right together for me there.
And one of the, make sure that we got 10 to talk about this, you got a really nice product
available for hair and nail and some of that for people.
Yeah, yeah.
So this is a new product, really cool.
There's a lady locally who owns this company, lives down in the role area and she kind
of, she's just a customer of ours.
She's been a customer for a couple of years and she said, hey, would you guys
be interested in bringing in this product?
I think it's her and her sister who in the company.
And she said, you know, we worked with a doctor, a medical doctor, but he has a lot of natural,
you know, kind of naturopathic training to make this formula.
And it was to address hair loss specifically.
She said they had, like, she had some family members, maybe even herself.
I forget her whole story, but they, they wanted to kind of address this problem.
And so they, they worked with this doctor and they, you know, they tried a lot of products
out on the market.
There's a lot of stuff out there.
And she said they really didn't find anything that was that good.
And they found a lot of things that were, you know, formulated with actually even ingredients
that were counterproductive.
So we've seen over the years biotin.
It's a B vitamin.
It's kind of a less essential B vitamin, but it is essential for hair, hair growth and
hair production.
And what she, her name is Laurie, what Laurie explained to me is that a lot of products
out there, they put in a lot of biotin, maybe five milligrams, 10 milligrams, but she
said even a thousand milligrams is too much biotin.
And it overloads your, your body with biotin and it kind of stifles hair growth.
So it does the opposite of what you want.
So she said when they were working with this doctor, he knew this.
And so he specifically formulated this formula with only 500 micrograms of biotin.
Still a healthy amount of biotin, but not enough that it's going to overload your body
and be counterproductive.
And then there's just like all these other really unique ingredients in here to give
your body the foundational nutrition and needs for hair growth.
And what's really cool about her product is she made one for women.
She made one for I think like 40 plus women because it's a little different hair concerns
as particularly like hormones change with age with women.
We have a lot of women come in and said like oh my hair is thinning, what do I do?
And we had some hair products, but none of them were really for that demographic for women
as they aged.
And so I was really happy to see Laurie have a product design like that.
I don't know how old Laurie is, she looks timeless, but I'm thinking she's over 40 anyways.
And so she kind of understood this detail.
I'm sure from her own personal health or sister.
And then they made one for men's health and men's hair skin and nails.
So it really addresses all things hair skin and nails.
It's got some really unique ingredients, a lot of clinically studied ingredients, like
vitamin K2 and MK7 form, which has been really popular lately, MSM, a clinically studied
MSM, which I think is an ingredient that's really underrated in natural health.
It was popular in the late 90s, early 2000s, but I'm glad to see Laurie bringing back things
that are even not that popular, but are definitely effective.
They've been clinically studied for years.
So this is a great new product.
I bring it up because I think Laurie will be coming in to do a lecture at our store.
We'll certainly let people know on one of our next podcasts here.
Cool.
And because she's local, it's a really easy opportunity.
Maybe I'll have her come and do a radio show with us.
I love that.
She's got so much enthusiasm.
She do a great job.
So more to hear about this, but I just want to let people know we have a new hair skin and
nail product for men, younger women, and women over 40 that's going to address all of your
health and concerns and needs for hair skin and nails.
It's really cool to think of how far we've come with some of these things and how detailed
we can be about it, where you can break it down by age and some of that, where it makes
sense on paper, but to be where we are, it's still, it doesn't, it hasn't become normal
to me.
It's still amazing.
Yeah.
It's really cool.
And it's a local product.
We love that.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
That's exactly it.
One, to take a beat to be able to touch on a probiotic that you have coming around.
Thank you.
And there's never a bad time to bring these up.
But I think with the conversations we've had today about the different topics, this
is a perfect way to wrap up.
Yeah.
Let's do the probiotics for our last one here.
It's one of our featured sales in September.
We've got a few other things.
Some bio-sale, sprout living, protein powders, CBDs on sale in September.
There's a long list, stop in or call us, or we'll talk next time around the radio.
But one of them that doesn't go on sale very often, and it's a really wonderful product,
it comes from Dr. O'Hara.
So he's a medical researcher doctor out of Japan, and he's been doing this for years.
This formula seems like it's, you know, the latest and greatest following all the trends,
but really he was a trendsetter.
He did this, and he did it just because it's the way it should be done.
And now I think everybody else is catching up with him.
But nobody's quite doing it like he does his products.
And the reason that his probiotics unique, you're not going to find any other ones like
this, is that it takes time.
And nobody has time.
Manufacturers, companies certainly don't have time, especially.
Such a good point.
These big companies that, you know, they want to spin their company up and make a bunch
money and sell it off to Procter and Gamble or Chlorox or, you know, you name it.
They don't have time to cultivate a probiotic for three to five years.
And that's what Dr. O'Hara does, and that's what makes this probiotic unique, and really,
you can't copy it.
Because it takes three years or five years first professional formula, which we also sell,
to make this probiotic.
And so what's really unique about this is it's kind of a common sense back to nature,
probiotic.
Dr. O'Hara took clinically studied probiotics that he had done over 30 years of research
on.
I forget how many.
There's maybe 12 different probiotics in here.
And then he took just good wholesome food.
What you'd call prebiotics.
So they're prebiotics, but they're food source prebiotics.
He puts those prebiotics with these clinically studied probiotics.
And then he cultivates them.
He basically recreated the environment of the human gut.
So he's same pH, same body temperature, and then he gives it three to five years.
And at the end, you end up with still some of those great prebiotics, the food that
the probiotics eat.
Then you have the probiotics.
So they're able to sustain themselves when they get in your gut because they have more
food to eat.
And then you get the postbiotics.
The postbiotics, we could do a whole nother talk on.
So I won't get into too many details.
But the postbiotics are these metabolites that come from the probiotics.
And the best way I have to explain it is also the worst way for me to explain this.
Unfortunately, I haven't found a better way, but I think it really drives the point home.
This probiotic is the closest you get to a fecal transplant.
So again, I apologize, but I've got to go down this road.
So fecal transplant is something that is done in the medical situations for people that
have chronic diarrhea, just chronic digestive issues.
And what doctors will do is they'll actually take poop from a healthy person, and they'll
transplant it into a person's gut that's on health, having GI issues, severe GI issues.
Life-saving procedure, and kind of natural in its own way, I suppose.
But not really the prettiest thing to think about or talk about, but really what this product
is, it's not fecal transplant, don't get me wrong, this is all just made.
But it's made in a way that's very reproducible.
It's very similar to a healthy gut that has been thriving for three to five years, right?
It's the same pH, same body temperature, even maybe better than that.
It's like these clinically studied for 30 years, specific probiotics, like eating the
best food.
It's like, you're not going to get people to eat these foods every day, but if you could,
you would produce a very healthy gut.
And so the idea of this is you can take this, and I think you get basically a very similar
result.
And a number of customers buy this, who had long-term GI issues, and they said, this is the
first thing that did it for them.
It's the first thing that turned around their gut health and got them back on their feet
and feeling great.
I've taken this on trips, I went to India, you always get...
It seems like a really good idea.
Wow.
You want to have this on a trip to India, or a lot of third world countries where there's
just a different level of cleanliness and different things you're going to be exposed to.
I've been to India a couple times, I live there for six months.
And every time I've been to India, I've gotten, you know, food poisoning more than once.
And I've often been there with friends, and I've been there...
I remember one time, specifically, my friends all got food poisoning.
I got food poisoning.
I got...
I took this intensively for a day or two, and I was back on my feet feeling fine, normal.
They were going on a week plus of just suffering.
You know, I should have shared this with them.
But you don't know until you try it yourself.
Yeah, I wasn't sure how well it worked, but I was like, the philosophy makes sense.
And really, I encourage people, if they do use this with more of an intensive gut issue,
it doesn't matter if it's chronic or acute.
Use it intensively.
I was taking six a day, but you could do four a day, and it will make a big difference
for you.
So I'm going to leave it at that.
Like I said, we can come back to talking about postbiotics, but I think this is a great
product.
It's on sale in September.
And really, for anybody who wants to restart their gut, or just to give it a little refresh
to take this at least a couple of times a year, even if I'm feeling it my best.
I was going to say this feels like something that even if you do have a healthier gut, not
a bad idea to take, and can certainly help.
Like I said earlier, these products, we don't have to spend 20 minutes of this interview.
Side effects may include these are positives for your body.
And it's great.
Great things to get ahead of too, and very few people couldn't use a little help with
their gut.
Yeah, totally.
