During those were the days tonight, I'll be reminiscing about the summer of 1974.
I was a star on the Ithaca Happy Hour 4-H Club's Junior B team.
A wonderful time for family farming, mixtapes, visiting the neighbor girls.
All the area families had a young lady that was around my age.
So I would ride my three-speed Hiawatha bike to the end of the long driveway and meet up with them.
It was important to look cool.
The playing cards in my spokes may not have helped this.
I did have a radio that bolted to the handlebars of my bike.
It did not give many stations and even WRCO AM 1450 at the time would get electrical interference when I rode under a power line or cruise by an electric fencer.
The young neighbor girls may have only been interested in me because I was friends with boys they liked.
That began my time of being a funny guy that was a good friend.
I was also busy making hay.
My parents gave me a quarter load allowance.
And then at that time, during the summer of 74, new 45 records went up to 85 cents.
So it took me a little bit more work to get the latest hits.
What a great bunch of songs to buy or pirate off the radio back then.
My summer favorites included Band on the Run by Wings, Rock Your Baby by George McCray,
Dancing Machine by the Jackson Five, Grand Funk in the Locomotion, The Show Must Go On by Three Dog Night, Don't You Worry About a Thing from Stevie Wonder, and Waterloo by Abba, Radar Love, Golden Earring, Lagrange by ZZ Top.
