Okay, by a show of hands, who remembers the summer of 1985?
Well, I do, and I know Phil does, because he's gonna talk about it on today's
Phil Knees blog.
The summer of 1985 was a great era for a mild-mannered mobile disc jockey and a part-time farmer.
I was spinning the hits, throwing the bales, and courting.
I own my own DJ business that kept me busy nights and weekends, though I played hundreds of gigs.
Some do stick out of my memory.
Just the other day I told our news guy, Todd, about a wild night at Steadly supper club, also known as the old black cat back in the day in Richland center.
I was hired for the Richland center class of 1985 for their senior dinner and dance.
When I walked in.
Management cautioned me that I should not turn up the music very loud because the class was already going crazy.
It seems that one of the scholars had thrown a baked potato against the wall across the room just before that.
Todd Copernall, do you have any recollection of this?
I went to our class dinner.
This would be spring of 1985, right before graduation, which was at Stetley's Supper Club.
And everybody arrived all excited, dressed up nice and ready to go.
Well then I sat down next to Brad Anderson and somebody went through a baked potato up against the wall from all the way across the room.
Carnage.
Spuds everywhere.
The next thing I know the staff was telling us if we didn't stop it we'd have to leave.
And he told the DJ that he should probably play a polka.
And I had to say, you do that and that will spark a riot.
We got to have Van Halen.
And then we got through it.
Okay.
But it got touch and go there for a while.
Sounds like there was, there's some trauma though, after all these years.
Yeah.
Well, I still, I don't hear from Brad as often as I used to.
He had to serve in the military in Korea for a while to get over what happened that night.
We will feature more of the story.
During tonight's those were the days behind the music.
The summer of 1985 had some amazing hits, Raspberry Beret by Prince, Glory Days, Bruce Springsteen, One Night in Bangkok, Murray Head, Some Like It Hot, Power Station, You Spin Me Round Like a Record, Dead or Alive, an amazing year for movies as well.
The Goonies, Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
was during that summer that I developed my signature dating move of the 80s.
The stretch, yawn, and put your arm around your date.
I still try that with June.
Tonight we'll be taking you on a magical mystery tour to the iconic year of 1985 during those for the days.

The Milwaukee Brewers snapped a two-game skid by defeating the Philadelphia Philly 6-0 Friday night at American Family Field, fueled by a historic, complete game-one hitter from pitcher Jacob Mizorowski.
Mizorowski fanned a career-high 15 batters, and he faced the minimum over 95 pitches, 74 of them for strikes, one clocked at over 104 miles per hour.
He was flawless on the mound after a lead-off liner by Kyle Schwarber in the first inning, resulted in the only Phillies hit on the night that ended in a double play, allowing him to face the minimum.
