got my knee replaced like four weeks ago, not even.

And there's zero handicap parking around here.

Having a condition like this really makes you appreciate what people who live with a disability go through every single day of their

life.

When I was a kid in Chicago, they were changing the sidewalks to make them handicap accessible.

Curb cuts.

And my friend Scott, I won't say his last name.

I think he went on to be a doctor.

He said, do you believe that?

I bet we got like one cripple on the whole block.

But that's how people used to sing.

It's not even that.

Once they did the curb cuts, guess who else started using it?

It just became like it was easier for everybody.

There are just some people you just can't make it.

It's like they always have to find something to complain about.

Remember the school shooting in Minneapolis?

There are so many.

I can't even remember exactly.

Well, this one didn't get a ton of press, but it was a Catholic school.

It was August 27th.

A family whose son goes to that school and he's fine.

He's okay.

but they're gonna tell their story.

Oh my gosh.

And then we're gonna talk about what can we do?

You know, as citizens, we hear about this all the time, and we've just kind of written it off, and if you're on the line.

We're like,

oh, that's terrible, and then we move on.

Right, we feel bad.

It's awful.

And then we, you know, we point fingers on the right, they say mental health issues on the left, they say gun issues.

Nobody's solving this problem.

Right.

So it's different when you've been through it.

Right.

So we're gonna hear their side.

I am trying not to go, and I don't even think it's political, but when a major celebrity, who was a talking head on the right, was recently killed, all the stuff for him, and that was horrific, what we

saw.

I mean,

everybody

was

like, that was awful and traumatizing.

But these kids get none of the pomp and circumstance, and they suffer what you saw in that video, that's happening to kids when they get shot.

And we don't hear about that and we don't really honor it.

Even, you know, it's just terrible.

So I applaud you.

I think that sounds like a phenomenal show.

And now I feel silly that I made jokes about myself.

That's the cool thing about my show.

When they first offered this amazing opportunity, they insisted that I call it just like my name, because then I could do anything I wanted with it.

Because

I was

thinking, you know, do you want to talk about health care or politics or health care and politics or

things

that I kind of do all the time.

But this way I can talk to anybody about anything and really just help them tell their stories.

And I love people.

That's the thing I love about being a doctor.

I love people and I love helping people be the best that they can be.

And this is just a different facet of that.

It's incredible.

And you can almost justify any guest.

and tie them to, like even your guests this weekend,

them somehow to the medical field or health,

right?

mean, that's pretty cool.

Yeah.

Let's talk about this knee.

I'm concerned.

What happened?

How did you, uh, did you run so hard for office?

You needed your knee replaced or what happened there?

I had a bad skiing accident a couple of years ago.

Oh, did you

really?

Yeah.

And then like surgery after surgery.

This is the fifth surgery when we finally said let's just start over.

I know.

That is terrible.

Does it hurt

right now?

Or are you doing the rehab?

Both of those things.

Yeah.

I'm doing incredibly well, though, because I went into it pretty healthy.

So luckily, I can bend it.

A big problem after a knee replacement is, can you bend it?

So that has not been a problem for me, although that's probably what got me into the situation in the first place, because I'm a little too bendy.

You're a little too bendy.

I have to ask you.

Oh, man.

Conrad dancing again.

Conrad is dealing with his own medical issue over there.

He's got restless leg syndrome and he keeps kicking all the jars of jelly under his desk.

I don't know why he's keeping them there.

But like I took over as district, district chair, there are 12 district

chairs.

So I now have the Upper Midwest and Manitoba and Saskatchewan and Peru.

So I've got like all of these diverse voices and it is so interesting just hearing delivery of care and patient experience all across like in South America and Canada and the U.S.

You truly love what you do.

You're very good at it.

Your bedside manner is, I'm sure there are some people that actually want to be sick so they get to hang out with you or have babies, I guess.

But what made you want to do a radio show?

Like even a two hour show on the weekend, there's production that's involved in that.

It's a lot of work.

So what made you want to do that?

Yeah.

And we're taking on more of that too, because we're doing a lot of remotely because so many of our guests are remote.

So it's even more of a burden on me.

And my oldest son Abe, who is helping out in a big way.

He's a public school teacher.

So he's a grown up.

It's a day long celebration.

It's going to be filled with a ton of family fun, like a kid's fun run through the goat barn, kitty petal poles, live entertainment drinks, and of course goats.

Don't worry, though, if you have plans for the Saturday, Pete, you can make it back another weekend for activities like goat yoga or goat cuddle sessions for the kids and kids at heart.

I think it's wise that you're just doing that for kids.

I feel like too many weirdos that show up to cuddle goats.

All right, number two, the Art of Cheese Festival.

I mean, it's such a fiction.

Ooh, we treat art or cheese making as an art form, Pete.

So this one is true.

The Art of Cheese Festival exists.

It's put on by the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, and it's actually happening this week in Madison, September 25th to the 28th.

You can taste all our cheese making excellence at the Art of Cheese Festival.

They're going to have chef-led experiences, tasting events, excursions and more, but you're going to want to act quick though.

Tickets are limited.

Events are selling out.

There is a free experience on Saturday, though, for anyone who's in Madison that's cheese fair off the square.

You're going to explore, shop, and connect with different master cheese makers there.

Wow.

I have a confession to make.

I went against my instincts.

Conrad kind of gave me a nod and I went with him and he totally steered me wrong.

I didn't think of it.

There's too many cheese festivals.

But you can live out your love for fantasy, not quite Minotaur style, but Dragon Days Fantasy Festival.

This is upcoming in Lake Geneva.

It's for families, fantasy fans and gamers alike.

It actually pays homage to Gary Geigex, who grew up in Lake Geneva and co-created Dungeons and Dragons in 1974.

So Dragon Days Fantasy Festival, that's October 4th and 5th.

It's going to be all throughout Lake Geneva.

You can learn how to play D&D, other tabletop games, check out fantasy themed activities, browse medieval vendors and see live demonstrations.

That actually sounds like a blast.

No live demonstrations of Minotaur rodeos though.

You know, you may have heard of a wine walk or a beer walk before, but they are putting on soup walk in Appleton.

You can visit the community on Saturday, October 11th for an annual downtown Appleton soup walk.

You're going to stroll through downtown and just save or deliver it.

delicious soups from a variety of participating businesses.

And really, does anything sound more like fall than a soup walkpeat?

It sounds fantastic.

And it's not like a bar crawl where you can barely stand up by the end of it.

If anything, soup is healthy, right?

Yeah, exactly.

So that's like in Appleton.

Appleton has a lot of stuff like the mile of music.

I know they also have a mile of fun coming up.

That's one of the things on your website.

I, um, that one is new to me, Pete.

know my old music, uh, that is a tremendous festival, but Appleton certainly knows how to entertain visitors year round.

I mean, if you want to go check out the trout museum, um, they got fantastic, uh, fantastic art there and they're just, uh, getting ready to open a new location for the trout museum.

So good reason to get to Appleton, um, next month in October when that.

and that museum opens up.

I love that.

What else can you tell us in terms of fall activities?

You know, you're going to find information on the Marinette waterfall tours.

Maybe you're rafting at Coshier's up up, I'm blanking on the name of the river, but there's certainly plenty of ways to go.

Tell us about night lights

So, yeah, I thought this was appropriate topic for a show like yours You know fall

Days get darker earlier, those temperatures are cooler, and you're going to find these really cool nighttime artful like light shows throughout the state.

So there's a few I'd like to highlight.

One's in Oshkosh.

It's at the Pain Art Center and Gardens, and it's called The Nature of Light.

Have you heard of this yet?

No, I have not.

So they put on their first display back in 2022 and attracted more than 50,000 visitors to this historic estate in Oshkosh and they're returning this year with the second incarnation of the nature of light.

It opened to the public in August and it runs each night through October 26.

And it's these spectacular showcases of illuminated sculptures and environments inside and outside the pain.

They have light dancers that are putting on circus style performances to enhance the viewing experience.

Definitely want to check out.

That's fantastic.

Another quick one in Madison.

That's Gleam.

It's an annual exhibition at the Ulbric Botanical Gardens.

It's been allowing people for a decade.

It's these large-scale light installations that are created by local, regional, and international designers.

So you can stroll the outdoor 16-acre garden inside the Conservancy to see this destination literally in a new light.

Book the ticket soon, though.

Gleam runs Wednesdays through Saturdays until October 25th.

I have not heard of that one.

That's kind of cool.

Real quick, we've got about a minute left, Logan.

What about fall farm fun?

Yeah, there's plenty of options to choose from If you're in the Lincoln County area, I'd highly suggest checking out Helene's hilltop orchard.

That's in Merrill.

They got a big you pick apple operation there They have you know bakery, you know, you can get pastries bread their signature pies Another great idea is folks in southern Wisconsin.

They want to they'll want to travel to Jamesville for Skelly's Farm Market

Particularly for their corn maze, they have a escape room style corn maze that love it integrates clues and and like solving puzzles to navigate your way through the maze where you'll actually end by unlocking a door and solving this mystery.

So those are two great destinations to check out.

The

great thing about corn maze is if you never get out, you won't starve to death because you've got food.

Some people maybe like a little more variety in their diet, but I get the logic.

just I'm saying for legal purposes.
