Let’s Talk Ghost Hunting

NEWisco Weekend · Sat Oct 26, 2024

This is New Wisco Weekend. I'm Lisa Hale. A new survey from Wallet Hub shows 34% of parents

feel kids can safely go trick-or-treating without an adult's chaperone. But at what age?

The survey reveals parents believe kids around the age of 13 or 14 are safe to trick-or-treat

without an adult. Meanwhile, half of those parents say they have no problem helping themselves

to some of their children's Halloween candy. Scary movies are all the rage this time of year,

but what about scary songs? Of course there's Ghostbusters, somebody's watching me, Monster Mash,

our very own Todd Michaels has been curating a Halloween playlist for us, but there's one more.

And it's considered the most popular one of all time. Terry Barr shares the song,

and though you'll recognize it right away, there may be a few spooky things you didn't know.

The creepy coffin footsteps. Dog Halloween. These are the opening sounds

turning Michael Jackson's song Thriller into a Halloween classic.

Thriller hit number one on the Billboard charts and stayed there for a record number

37 weeks from February of 1983 to April 84. And it's still on and off the music charts today.

It's supposed to be a night as something deep was lurking in the dark.

I love the moonlight, you see us like that I almost stopped you hot. You try to scream,

but dare I take the sun before you make it.

And you start to freeze.

And so it looks you right between the eyes. You're buried lies.

Because that's the day, day and night. And no one's going to say,

you're probably the most striking. No, it's day and night. You're fighting for your life inside of

Canada, Canada, Canada. Thriller is described as a Halloween disco funk song.

And it's five edited versions for radio. This is the longer one. And the one you'll

typically hear around Halloween.

I think we'll possess you. And I should choose that number for the time.

And I was the time for you and I to cuddle close together.

All through the night. I'll save you from the terror on the screen. I'll make you see.

And I think the day, day and night. Because I confuse you more than anything.

And I go through the day and try.

So let me hold your time and share them together.

Tell us and share.

Tell us, it's your time.

You think the day, day and night.

I can feel you more than anything, go through the day and try.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

So let me hold your time and share them together. Tell us and share.

The song finishes with a poetic reading by Vincent Price.

He nails his part in two takes and has paid $1,000 for his work.

And his falls across the land.

The midnight hour is closer than the creatures crawl in search of blood

to terrorize your neighborhood.

And who's however shall we found without the soul for getting down?

Must stand and place the hounds of hell and rot inside a corpse and shell.

I'm going to do it tonight.

Price is a late, great master of horror films and helps push thriller over the top

and into the Halloween record books.

The foulest dentures in the air.

The funk of 40,000 years.

And grizzly goons from every tomb.

Are closing in to seal your doom.

And though you fight to stay alive,

your body starts to shiver.

For knowing your mortal can resist,

the evil love of the forever.
