Good morning, Wisconsin. Morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off with
us at 97.5 FM WFHR. Your host, James behind the mic, joined by our head of news, our
co-host, Melissa K. Good morning. Our head of production and co-host, Seth
Habagger. Good morning, everyone. And the best listeners in radio. We're all here hanging
out. We're going to have some fun throughout this week. We're going to kick things off
the way we like. Two of our friend, Brittany Merlot. Good morning, Brett. How you doing?
Good morning. I'm doing good. The sun is shining. I'm outside. It's a good day. Wow. You
can tell it in her voice. She's really excited about today. You can also tell the
weather's the air is getting a little bit better. Everybody you can hear us all. We're not
coughing and we're not coughing. You know what I'm saying? Or at least we're turning the mic
off when we do. Yeah. Yeah. Brittany, as far as the air quality, I am hearing that it's
going to be a little bit better throughout the week. Yes. Today is probably the last day,
a little bit of hay still lingering. It should be gone by tomorrow. And that's good news
because it was pretty sick out there. We've got, though, the high pressure system still
here today giving us a little more refreshing temperatures, but not as much humidity. High
speed about 78 degrees today. But then by tonight, that's the thing started to change. The
wildfire smoke gone. Chances of a few showers probably tomorrow morning. I think it
are going to hold off till and then tomorrow afternoon and evening some more storms in the
evening. And then behind that by Wednesdays at 90s, then the humidity is just going to
be ramping up from there. So it's going to be pretty impressive and slultering as we go
through the rest of this week. But in terms today, a little bit tomorrow is still on the
comfortable side of it. All right. All right. We can dig that. Yeah. We can get into that.
Yeah. Yeah. A lot. It's fine. Make it work. Make it work. It's, it we're wrapping up July
everybody. We're not going to have much more of this left. Yeah. Right. I'm going to take
a plane, take every little take all the warm weather we can get. I read a treated like,
you know, just in and throw it in the basement, you know, in a, in a jar. Why, I so wish
we could do that. Yeah. So wish. But we get stuff out in January. Yeah. Yeah. That's
what we'll do. Yeah. We appreciate it. Ready. You have a good morning. You too. Thank
you. Thanks, Brittany. Thanks, Brittany. Best in the business. Brittany Merlot joining us
every morning right in this time slot. Melissa Seth and I got a lot of fun lined up for you
this week. And for today, we're going to get into it in a little bit. The Elcafe birthday
and anniversary club looking forward to that. We will also have the TSA is adding a family
lane. Get into that. Okay. A woman being flooded by calls about an nonexistent cat. Oh
no. And we got all that covered up for you. And then in the 10 o'clock hour, we'll kick things
off the way we like to on Mondays with the kitchen's open. Beth is going to join us. Yes.
Looking forward to that. Got some entertainment news to go along with all of that. And we also
have a couple of other topics for you. Like, do you really need to wait 30 minutes to swim
after you eat the old wives. Yes. Love those. We will discuss. But right now it is early
morning and finding things that the three of us have in common or all are alike is not
as hard as you might think. It also can be a little more difficult than you might realize
to your average listener out there. Now, somebody that gets to work with you guys quite a
bit and has been for many years. I don't know you at all. No. I know you guys. I feel like
I know you guys are you. But I would say that if there is a one thing that brings the three
of us together, that the three of us have in common the most or maybe the original thing
that brought us together on this show and built our chemistry on, it's coffee. Oh, that's
fair. I could bring up music. I could bring up food, love of community, a lot of these
things. Let's be honest, coffee. It's all about coffee. Coffee brought us together.
The coffee keeps us, you know, the show. We're running. Yes, exactly. Yes, yeah. Literally
our fuel. I'm just going to say it. Yeah, yeah. That's exactly the way it needed to be
said, Melissa. Listen, I cannot be in the same room together. I mean, even with coffee,
it's dangerous. Hey, watch yourself. If you, you guys should see our tea meetings, we
actually have to, like, yeah, so Seth said, I'm running back and forth. So Seth said, Melissa,
Seth said, just go back and forth, back and forth. Like it's, I really think you should
just get us those walkie talkies, James. I mean, we've talked about it for years now.
It's not in the budget. It's not. We're meeting so much more fun. They would be interesting.
Yeah, we got it. Actually now, certainly, I kind of want to know what it wants to do
it. Right. Yeah. If you want to sound like a pro at making Joe, the next cup of
Joe, we can maybe help you out with that. All right. We are going to be able to drop some
hints on how to order your perfect cup of coffee. That is what we're talking about here.
How to order a perfect cup of coffee. Okay. So for someone else to make it. Got it. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. So order the right roast. Most people don't know that any coffee shops, you
can usually specify whether you prefer a light medium or dark roast. Correct. And not,
not sure which one you like. If you drink your coffee black, go with a light roast. If
you love to load up on milk and sugar, a medium or dark roast is probably best. And of
course, I completely disagree with this. Oh, already. Wow. Yep. It brings us together
in a tear. It's a part of this coffee. Oh, wow. I'm going to agree with Melissa. Really?
Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Because I just, I think that it's, it really does depend on how you
like your coffee. So everybody's going to be different with a little bit of this. And
you adjust these rules, if you will, to your own thing. I, I don't like, I, I want to
taste the coffee. And at the same time, I don't hate my taste buds. So I don't drink
just black coffee. So I like a little bit of a combination in there. And to me, I think
a medium roast is what works best for me. There you go. But a light roast, I think actually
kind of works well with darker coffee. You really taste the coffee. I don't feel like,
I feel like if you're the more my sister and her husband and guy, I love them. I hope
you guys are doing good. Have a good morning and everything. Thanks for listening, you guys.
They will put like half the can of coffee into one thing of coffee. It's insane. My mother
and I will just sit there and just watch as they do this. Um, it's like, James, would
you like some coffee? Yes. But just a small slice. It's basically, I, I, I want my spoon
to stand up, man. The harder you make it. And I got practical magic. So the less you're
going to taste the coffee. Right. Next on here, consider your cold coffee carefully. Since
it's summer, a lot of us switch from drinking hot coffee to the ice stuff, but there's a big
difference between cold brew and ice stuff. Ice coffee is hot coffee that's been cooled
down. So it takes more bitter, more bitter and acid acidic. Cold brew is steeped in cold
water for hours, which makes it smoother, sweeter and more caffeinated. Oh, try them
both if you don't know which one tastes better for you. Okay. I didn't know that I'm
going on the same day so that you could be ultra happy. Yeah. Yeah. Do it on a Monday.
So now this is the, this is the thing where I think would throw people because they would
think, you know, like regular brew coffee that's then iced would have more caffeine. But like
I learned when I was a breeze stuff for a little while, it is not the amount of coffee that
has the caffeine. It's how long the water sits in the coffee that increases the caffeine.
How much leech is that? Exactly. It also has to do with the roasting time too of the bean
for how much caffeine is in the bean still. So you espresso people out there like to have
that shot of espresso. Actually, not much more. No, really not. It's more packed in there,
but it doesn't stay in the grounds very long. It comes out really quick. So yeah,
that's more about the flavor. Exactly. Yeah. Maybe to that point, next on here,
don't overdo the flavored syrups. They can muddle the coffee flavors and leave you with
the sugar bomb. Which is fine if that's what you're going for. But if you want to actually taste
the coffee, start with half the usual pumps and add as needed. There you go. Okay. The only
one that I would push back on that is the lavender, which I absolutely love lavender flavor.
And it's so light that you really do need a lot more of it. Yeah. I can see that.
Explain so much. Nope. Keep it away from me.
And finally, know the differences between classic coffee drinks. Here's a quick rundown to get
you started. A latte is mostly steamed milk with a shot of espresso. It's creamy and smooth.
Like a gateway drink for people who aren't sure if they love coffee or not. I like that.
An American, an Americano is espresso with hot water. So it's got a big, bold coffee flavor.
Yeah. I like Americanos. I do too. Yeah. And a cappuccino is kind of in the middle.
Part espresso, part steam milk, and frothy milk foam on top. And it's a really fun to say.
Yes. And I'm going to choose a lot of different flavors to put in there. That's right.
And what's that I would just say that that is what mostly you see in gas stations is usually
cappuccinos. And that's basically yeah. Yeah, you're right.
And it's, you know, I want to know what you guys think out there. How you make your perfect
cup of coffee or what you're looking for in coffee. Do you have a go-to coffee? I've mentioned
many times. Mine is black is my soul. Like my like I like that. I like my coffee like I like
my night's black. It's dark long. Wow. I actually I did like black coffee when I was a kid.
And I started you know discovering more and more of other things. But I really just want to try
all of them. I want to I there's not many coffee. I don't want to try. And now we know
because James started drinking coffee when he was a kid. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
It all comes clear. I think I started drinking it regularly when I was like 15 or 16 if I remember
correctly. So I didn't until I was well into my late 20s. Okay. Yeah. I so for me the coffee
means one thing is a vessel for caffeine. That is all that it is to me. Yeah. So you don't even care
what it tastes like. Honestly I specifically taught myself how to drink black coffee so I could
have it anywhere at any time and not worry about having to put cream and sugar in it. That is
literally why I taught myself to drink black coffee. I kind of I kind of get that my my papa was
like that as a truck driver. That's that's it. He was just you never he figured. You can't see
about your coffee. Yeah. Nope. Yeah. He figured wherever he was going to go was probably it was
more likely than not going to be bad. So he didn't even bother. He just drink. They just happy
to have it. That's that's a great point. I mean there's I'd like some better than others.
Obviously. Right. Because you have taste buds. Of course. But it's in the end it doesn't matter.
If it is a coffee do I want some caffeine right now? Then I'm going to drink it. That's all
up for us to it. For what I buy and I keep in my house. I like to have one bag of a dark roast
and a bag of a flavor and I will put mostly and and I do the same thing as your your family James
and I put way too many coffee grounds in my filter. And then I sprinkle a little bit of the flavor
on top. So it's just it's got a little bit of the flavor and then also the dark roast and then
sometimes I don't use the flavor some on a Sunday. I might just use the flavored. Oh.
But I just like some treat. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. And the only time I drink a medium or a
light roast is if I'm at a like at a cafe. I'll cafe graces restaurant. I I will drink that coffee.
I can't say that I love it. But I will because again it is a vessel for caffeine. That's right.
So what does it mean? Has no sugar. Yeah. I so my coffee during the week tends to be a little bit
more just get the job done darker and all that on the weekends is when I try I like to have more
flavored coffee or something like that to what you're saying there Melissa treat it on the weekends.
Savoring it. Yeah. You have some more time right. Yeah. Yeah. And I will say something and I don't
know if this is just the the palette that I how I grew up or something like that. I don't know if
this is even a hot take. I may prefer like certain gas station coffees like the cappuccinos
you get out of some machines over certain other like just name brand big box office you know coffee
companies. Oh wow. That's there's something about it. I just I you know if you're looking for
what that cappuccino if you're not looking for real coffee necessarily. I'm the weekend that's
just a good one. I mean I think gas station coffees got a lot better. I think it has over the
year now. People demanded it be better. Yeah. But it also I really appreciate that now they are
starting to make the the cold coffee drinks like the cold lattes. There's one I have found that has
oat milk. There you go. A lot of those cold ones in the in the you know refrigerated section
all have like regular milk in them. But there is one I found that has oat milk and it's really good.
Nice right. That's very cool. Right. Let's take a quick call before we go to break. Good
morning around the show. I have never ever ever ever tasted coffee in my life. I'm going to be
it. We're gonna have. Right on. Right on. Wow that's crazy. So you must be like eight feet tall
you're like a cold coffee stunced gross. Five five five five five five five five five.
We just prove that myth. There you go. Yeah. Is it because you don't like the smell of it?
Hawaii was Mormon or same one of seven day event it was against their religion to have caffeine
so he never had coffee and never had chocolate or anything. Wow. Okay. And you've been you don't
miss a thing. I've never had ever had an interest in trying and often never bothered me a bit.
Yeah. All right. That's good. Good. I love that. Yeah. I'm sticky. Bring water person.
It's got to be spring water. Not not all. Okay. Yeah. There you go. There you go.
Good stuff. Yeah. And you always good talking to your sir. Yeah. Good morning. That's interesting.
That's fascinating. Wow. We encourage you have some Melissa? I was just gonna say I wonder if you
did a poll of you know a decent amount of people like two thousand people how many could answer
like that gentleman. Yeah. I don't know that there's that many out there. Yeah. I'd be interested
in on myself. Yeah. I think that'd be a good poll. We should run it. We should do that. That's fine
out. But on the website just real quickly did want to say a shout out to everybody with a successful
weekend for those counts as they want to see show tournament. Yeah. Congratulations to
everybody involved. Especially of course all of our teams. Good showing by everybody.
Didn't get just didn't get to us here or see a lot of stats. But I did see that Shermalat
or one of our team local teams won the state jump. I believe our team jump competition.
Believe they did. We'll look a little bit more into that and we'll talk a little bit more about
it on playmakers today. But shout out to everybody in congratulations on a successful
water skis weekend. Yeah. We will take a quick time out. We'll come back with the Elcafe birthday
anniversary club on the morning show at WFHR. It's time to do some celebrating with our great friends
over at Elcafe. We encourage you to treat yourself tomorrow. When they open their doors everybody
they'll be open again tomorrow. But for today you can go ahead and plan out what you want to get

some of that pie this weekend. You did excellent. Everything that is advertised and then some
incredible incredible pie and very filling. I don't know if I've had you on yourself.
I don't know if I've had filling pie before. It's a solid pie. Generous pieces.
Yeah, that's probably why. I appreciate our friends at Elcafe. Get on over there everybody.
Enjoy yourself. And of course get us those birthdays and anniversaries. We love
celebrating with you. Email us info at WFHR.com. You can direct messages on our Facebook pages
and you can call on up. That's right. 715-424-2600. We look forward to having you join us with
your birthdays and anniversaries. Seth, I know that you had some. I do have a couple. I want to
shout out first of all this Saturday. I was at a wedding here in Central Wisconsin which is
amazing considering where the rest of my family is. That's out of my family is. Junction City is
where it was and it was my cousin Demetri and his new wife Maya. So congratulations to those two
for tying the knot on Saturday. It was a lot of fun to see family hadn't seen in a long time.
And then today is my parents' 52nd wedding anniversary. Yeah. Oh, congratulations.
Yes. Thank you. I'm on the dad 52 years. Yes. So yeah, they're very close. Let's see. I think
it's next week. They're going to be moving back to Wisconsin. So very cool. I think we need to
have a party. Yeah, yeah, definitely. At their place. Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah. I don't
play. Oh, their place give you a lot smaller now. I have one to shout out again today as well.
My sister-in-law Jacqueline's birthday is today. Happy birthday Jacqueline. Happy birthday,
Jacqueline. Oh, salut to the new married couples and the old and a very happy birthday to Jacqueline.
Yeah. That's great. That's great. That's great. I don't have any to add. Not today. Not today.
Not today. But we do have a great couple of the chews from. So I need a one through three Seth.
Let's go three today. But a long time since I've gotten three. All right. It gives us that
qualified. There we go. All right. So we can get right into it and here we go. First up,
I want to wish a very happy birthday to Jan Dietz. Happy birthday, Jan. Happy birthday, Jan.
Enjoy the day, Jan. Oh, it's good one for you. We also wish a very happy birthday to Pam Nunean.
Happy birthday, Pam. Happy birthday, Pam. Great name. We wish a lot of great
Pam's around here. Yeah, yeah. We love that name. Happy birthday, Pam. And a late entry,
but they qualified happy 52nd anniversary to Rich in Ronda, Jacqueline. Oh, congratulations.
Ronda, happy anniversary. We got married the same day my parents did. That's pretty good.
That's really cool. Yeah. Same day, same year. Yeah. Exactly. Congratulations to them. We wish
them a great one. Enjoying a very happy birthday and anniversary to everybody out there celebrating.
Yes. Who do you want to say Seth? What is your parents' names? Dean and Barb.
Okay. I just want to make sure they weren't sneaking in. No, no, no.
We appreciate them getting us those names. Take a look at who you share your day with.
First up, Juno Temple is 36 today. Keeley on Ted Lasso. She was in Melissa Fent and Sally in
Sin City. He's a very good actor. Very nice. Rory Kalkin is 36. But Kully's younger brother.
Okay. He was in signs and screamed for. I was in a couple of movies over there, but a good actor.
The Kalkin family. Yeah. And realize that they are also in so many things.
Yeah, a lot more to them than that. Josh Hartnett is 47. Ethan on Penny Dreadful. He was in Pearl Harbor,
Black Hawk Down, Sin City. I never, Josh Hartnett was somebody that actually him and Harrison Ford
didn't get along that great early on in his in Josh Hartnett's career. And hearing that story,
I was like, oh, I don't know about this guy. I don't know how he's going to be. He really,
like, that will came up a lot and made him really appreciate where he is, what he has.
And when he, he told himself, okay, whoever reaches out to me next, I'm going to give everything I
got. I'm going to do all these things. Robert Rodriguez reached out to him and said, hey,
I think you're perfect for this part. But I can't pay you right now. Oh, it's basically just a test.
Because I'm trying to get this guy Frank Miller to do this movie, Sin City. And he won't do it.
People, directors have been going to him for 20 years trying to get this movie made and nobody will
do it. Would you do this scene? Hartnett gets on a plane immediately and goes to Texas to film
this scene. They filmed the scene. Show it to Frank Miller. He's blown away the rest of his history.
They get two movies out of it. Josh Hartnett's career gets a penny dreadful role after that.
And his whole career has been completely different. Lucky number 11. If you're looking for a really
cool, fun, Josh Hartnett Bruce Willis movie, where you really get to see what I'm talking about here.
It's lucky number 11. It's a great movie. Great movie.
I love these tapes coming up. These movies I've never heard of before. I love it. That's great.
That's my that's my wheelhouse. Let's see. Brandy Shastine is 57. A wonderful, amazing women's soccer
player. I brought us that winning gold in 99 and one of the most famous shots of the 90s.
Yeah. And far and one of the most famous shots in Olympic or in world competition,
the history especially. She's great. This is a lot of fun.
Acting. The great John Lovitz is 68 today. Wow. I love John Lovitz. Yeah. I love John Lovitz.
Fantastic actor comedian. And of course, SNL alum. Long time of edge.
And it probably one of the sillier entries into the Senate Live movies, but high school high.
Yeah. I mean, yes. It's silly, but it's funny. He's great in that.
Yes, he is. I think John Lovitz is actually underrated. I do really do.
I think of a fantastic actor. Cat Stevens, Yusuf Isla, is 77 today. Yeah.
A wonderful writer, a wonderful writer singer, singer, songwriter played one of his songs
yesterday on Seth Face of the Music, by the way. I didn't even know what was his birthday today.
Got to dance to his song at Breeus Wedding, if you want to sing it aloud. I'll be honest with
everybody. I know who he is, but it didn't grow up at a lot of his music or anything like that.
And it never really thought too much about him. Now, every time I think of his name,
I'm in that at that wedding. There you go. Yeah.
It's crazy how music does that. Yeah. Really. Yes. Takes you somewhere.
I know. I think just an fantastic writer. Gary Trudeau is 77 today. Oh, wow.
Dune's Barry cartoonist who I just always thought was a very good writer.
I grew up reading a lot of the Dune's Barry comics. I don't know how many of them I even
understood. Probably. But I loved I liked his writing. I like what he did. His art style too.
I really enjoy his art style. Yeah. Let's see here. Janet Reno would have been celebrating a birthday.
Today, the first woman to serve as attorney general. Incredible career. Sorry. I was going to
the Senate. Yeah. Good on. I'm glad you brought that up because actually it's one of those
things I think should be mentioned about her. Will Farrell played her a number of times as a bit.
Instead of kind of like getting bent out of shape about that, Janet Reno, like actually
guest spotted on SNL with Will Farrell to do. And even did the silly dance that she did. As
her, it was really fun. I love people that do those kind of things. Yeah.
That's she's something. Don Nots would have been celebrating a birthday
today. Born in 1924. I don't want to call him a character actor because he was a lead actor
in a number of things. Yeah. He did a good job in them. Yeah. But one of my dad's favorite
people of all time. My dad loved Don Nots. He was one. I mean, of course, everyone knows,
you know, being on Andy Griffith's show, of course, and all that stuff. But you forget, man, he was
in a bunch of movies in like the 70s that he was the lead in. These are some fun, you know,
silly comedies and stuff like that. The Apple dumpling game, by the way. Oh my god,
that funny movie. He's right. I don't want to get away together. Oh my lord. That is a funny movie.
The shakiest gun in the West in 1968. That one was so good. Oh, for watching that one again.
I forgot he was in. Oh my god. Goes to Monte Carlo.
And he was in Pleasantville in 1998. Oh my gosh. I forgot about that. I've seen that movie
and I forgot about it. Oh my god. Yeah. I can't always do this on his birthday. I forget the movie.
My dad loved so much watched all the time. The one where he's the fish, Mr. Something or whatever.
Oh, it was the fish that that that eight Pittsburgh or something like that. I don't know. He turns into a
fish. Yeah. Oh, okay. Oh, yes. It is voice acting. It's got the old animation to it and everything.
I just cannot. Oh, I love it. I'm looking all right. Yeah. Well, one way or the other will get to it. Why
you're doing that? I will mention also Ernest Hemingway's birthday. Would have been today born in 1899,
Pestway in 1961. One of our biggest, our greatest writers. Yep. We have produced in this country.
And one of the greatest writers I've ever read. A very, very complicated human being as a writer
goes, one of the greatest you will ever read. The economy of style. He pioneered a certain way of
writing and still, I mean, very influential and it still holds up today. Read, I don't know,
the old man in the sea. It's a classic. I love that one. Yeah. That's a great point. And one more
to mention, born in the state in 1951, Pestway in 2014, Robin Williams. That's great. My greatest
influence outside of family or anything like that. I've mentioned many times of seven years old,
watching him on Morkin, Mindy and realized, that's what I want to be. That's what I want to do.
Don't know if there is a more versatile actor I will ever see. A more where not just that he could
do any role, but he could do them all at a 10 and how incredible he was. The stand-up comedian he
was. You've never seen a stand-up comedian like him and you never will again. There's nobody
whose brain worked as fast as his did. And did it all naturally. This is just who Robin was.
There are great stories of his kids asking him if he was doing okay when he was just really waking
up at the board and not really writing to be, quote, Robin. Yeah, right. But just an incredible
human being who gave so very much to the world. Robin Williams, I can ramble about his acting for
days, but it's what he did once he got a little bit of clout and how he demanded it. And every
movie that Robin Williams ever did, going past Moscow and the Hudson probably, somewhere around
there, we'll start with toys maybe. In his contract, had it that the movie had to hire some homeless
people, had to hire some unhomed, unhoused people for the movie. Every single movie he did.
He would, he was a friend of all directors and writers that I mean, like people he didn't even
work with. Steven Spielberg was called up by Robin Williams during the filming of Shindler's
list just to keep him cheery, just to keep him mood, his vibe right, his eyes on the prize.
Robin Williams visiting people in prison, all these different things. So many things that we
didn't find out about until after his passing. He is the greatest to me. For all of his great
comedy and everything of his famous comedy roles, you know, we can name a whole bunch of them.
I find, as maybe as I get older, I like the quieter roles, better, like Dead Poets Society,
maybe Goodwill Hunting, his performance on that, the, you know, and it kind of really showed
that he didn't have to be manic all the time, right? He could be quiet and he could do a really,
really good job or he could be really creepy, like one hour photo or something like, I mean,
he could do it all. He could do it all. It's amazing. One hour photo is the most freaky role
I've ever seen in my life without him, like it's not blood and guts or any of that. It's
old hitchcock kind of. It's suspense. Yeah, just, and a movie being human is a really good one of his
if you're looking for, if you're looking for a fun one toys. He gets to work with a Joan Cusack
in that one. And their chemistry is off the charts. It's fantastic. Cool. And I loved him in
Jumanji, of course, but which one is the, oh, what dreams may come? Oh, yeah. That's a remarkable
performance. The most romantic movie I've ever seen in my life. And, yeah, and every movie he was
able to bring something new to a role that I, as somebody who studied every single thing he did
multiple times, he would be able to do different things in them all. Very cool. Also,
we'll go ahead. No, you listen. No, because I was going to change this. I just had a quote from him.
I was going to read. Oh, go for it. Never pick a fight with an ugly person. They have nothing to lose.
No, that's not the quote. That's not the quote. That's not the one. That's, oh, man. It's a little kid
bit. I love that line. No matter what people tell you words and ideas can change the world.
Oh, that's a good one. That's a good one. Yeah. No, and I was going to say that the Don Nott's
Fish movie is the incredible Mr. Limpy. Thank you. Yes. I guess he's got to throw that out.
They're going to watch it. Very good. Very good. Of course, again, a happy birthday and
adversity to everybody out there celebrating. Can't think of a better way to celebrate them
with our friends at El Café. Get there tomorrow. Everybody. Yes. We'll be back with more show.
Welcome back, everybody. Morning show here at WFHR, locally grown radio. Melissa, Seth and James
hanging out with you. We hope your Monday is treating you good. We're certainly going to. We're
going to have some fun over the next couple of next hour and a half. We got some great stuff
lined up for you. I want to dive into this one. There is a lot of changes going on with a flight
and flying and how to fly and how we're flying and all these things. It's also none of this involves.
I'm not hearing anything about safety. We don't have shoes. We can keep our shoes on. We can do this
that they're adding these different things to it, but I haven't heard one thing about addressing
safety in the flying. Yeah, right. Or giving them more workers or anything like that.
And this is an interesting another tidbit on this. Two weeks after the TSA nicks their shoes off
policy, they've announced that they're adding dedicated new, quote, family lanes at security
checkpoints. They're only available at a few major airports to start, including Orlando International,
Charlotte Douglas International and a handful of others. Okay. More will be added in the coming
months. The TSA says the new family lanes are supposed to help mitigate the unique challenges
families face when traveling and minimize stress when maintaining the highest level of security.
This is one of those rare wind winds where parents don't have to worry so much about holding up
the line and everyone else doesn't have to worry so much about families holding up the line.
Right. They'll also offer discounted TSA pre-check rates for families $15 off and they've
been adding honor lanes for the military community. They already available in the 11 airports
expanding in their expanding nationwide. Okay. Very good. Glad to hear that.
I'm not willing to give up convenience for safety. Right. I will admit that. I am also alone on
this island. I don't know that there's many people that agree with me on that. Right. I think
especially just what I'm reading in articles and what I'm checking out and seeing. I love
flying. I really enjoy it. I haven't gotten to do it in years like over a decade probably. It's been
since I've flown and I miss it. But like this whole time since my last time flying, all I've
been doing is thinking about where I want to go and making plans for it and I've never in my life
been hesitant to book a flight. Let alone get on a plane. Right. Until now. Yep. Just being
honest with you, I don't want. I hate the idea of, you know, it's hard for me to imagine. I say
something and anybody out there could be affected by even a little bit. It's hard for me to imagine
that. But just in case of anything like that, I am only speaking for myself and never ever have
all ever speaking for anybody other than myself. And I'm not even saying that it would get me
to not fly. Sure. I'm just saying that it's the first time in my life I've ever been hesitant
about it. Yeah. And I don't honestly, I do not think you're alone. I think a lot of people have
been rethinking their traveling in the recent years and months with all of the stuff that's come out
and it's almost all related to safety. And that's the big thing. That's what people want more than
anything. I think it would seem to be that people want to be safe when they're traveling, especially
when you're flying in an airplane, right? Makes sense. Right. Because you really can't do
anything to protect yourself once you're up in the sky. And the more we hear about air traffic
controllers being overworked, being short-staffed, working with old equipment,
that may be a little nervous. Yeah, absolutely. It boggles the mind that one of the things that we have
we have we have we have laxed a safety odd is something like this. Like of all the things,
your hard press to find meant like a nuclear reactor, like your hard press to think of things
that need more safety requirements and safety should be number one. Like forget convenience,
forget price, all of these other things, safety. What's the safest airline? Like that's the thing
that we should be looking at. And it's the it's probably not even on the top, not even on the top
three of things that think people that a lot of people were looking at. Right. Now I think that
that yes, that's different now. But for the longest time, we got so big and happy on this.
Well, so it became a commonplace way to travel. Yeah. Yeah. And let's be honest, let's be fair here.
The reason it was so safe for so long is because we work to it. Yeah. We got to that point because
we wanted it that way because we would say, you know, we would, you know, crashes would happen
or like, oh, people would be, I don't want to fly. And then they're like, no, no, no, what look,
this is what we're doing for safety. We're doing this and this and this. And then after a while,
it became like flying. Oh, it's safer than walking. You know, that kind of thing. You're more likely
to get hit by lightning. Right. Exactly. I'm dying to play. Exactly. But then for, you know,
consolidation of airlines and the manufacturers, lacks and regulations. And that's just,
that's how we're here now. That's where we are at right now where people are like,
again, they don't both fly in kind of thing. And this is something that happens when you let
businesses devour other businesses. Yes. But I'm not even against that. That's, that's just,
that's business. That's America. That's the country we built. That's capitalism. That's,
that's the way this works. I'm not going against that. It's what happens when that happens.
For every cheaper flight you get, you have a lesser, lesser restrictions and lesser people
caring about those things. Do you think you care? And yes, exactly. And the bigger they get,
all they do is they pay fines. And it's a really small one. Yeah. Here's something else. And
it doesn't matter what kind of business we're talking about. This is every big business out there.
The bigger business gets the less accountability we have. And, and I understand that we've
gotten rid of shame in society. That just doesn't exist anymore. It seems like people can be
as shameful as they want. It seems like. But the accountability part, I'm going to die on this
hill. I'm going to, I'm just, I'm never going to stop bringing up that word accountability.
I'm never going to stop demanding it out of people, out of our leaders, out of people in
positions of power, out of these things. And anybody that doesn't demand accountability,
I don't understand what we're doing. I don't understand what you're doing. I don't understand how
you can look in the mirror, let alone look at your loved ones and not have accountability.
Now, you, you're, it's demanded of you. We should be demanding it of them. Like, it's not like the
rest of us can get away with this stuff. I don't care if it's a CEO or it's the president. Like,
there needs to be accountability. Without it, what do we have? And that's it. That's it. You're
absolutely right. I also think that flying should be like a little bit cooler.
You want like hats? No, yeah, I want like themes. I want like, you know, like just themes.
Stink white. Yeah. Yeah. Why is that? It's our, it's our low off flight. And you know, and it's just
like, I mean, that would be cool. And what I like about it is just random like people, like the
person, for every person that's excited about it, the person who is like, just got to their gate.
Yeah, they're just, they're just frazzled in and it's like, no, what are you doing? Yeah. All of that
but dressed, but dressed like it, they're going to a little while. I'll maybe light the mood,
right? Yeah, that'd be a little bit. I think it'd be a little fun. There you go. That would be
funny. That would be funny. We will take a quick time out. We'll come back and have some more fun
on the morning show at WFHR. Welcome back, everybody. Morning show at WFHR.
And the living is beautiful. It's a wonderful version of this song for my favorites.
Sam could play us in, everybody. I will recommend the Louis Armstrong Ella Fitzgerald version of
summertime. That's good to. Maybe the greatest song ever. A woman named Natasha has been getting
dozens of calls from people saying that they found her missing cat named Torbo. There's one problem.
She's never heard of a cat named Torbo. She lives in, she lives in British Columbia, Canada
and the calls have been coming from around, for around about a year now. Oh no. The calls about
Torbo have mostly been coming from the US and she has no connections there. She's never even
been to the country. She does have a cat named Mauser, but Mauser is safely enjoying the air
conditioning at her home right now and hasn't, hasn't been wandering around in, I don't know,
Albuquerque. Oh no word. Natasha just now finally figured out what has, what has been happening.
I mean, just like over the last peak week or so. Her partner finally got a caller to explain
how they got the number and the person said that the number was on a t-shirt that they bought
and the shirt has a missing cat poster with Torbo and Natasha's number. Oh my gosh.
The company that made the shirt said that they pulled it and a rep said that the use of a real
number with a cat with the art created was not intentional. This was just a gimmick shirt. Okay,
gotcha. Like when you see those old school shirts, hi, my name is. Yeah, over, over, over, that
get news. It's just kind of a fun shirt, a gag shirt. Yeah, it turned out they got a real number
on there. Oopsy. Oh dear. The woman says she, she plans to keep her number. She said she'd like a
real apology from the company and added, I feel like I deserve a t-shirt after this. I think,
I want not not that one, but yeah, some people are picking a t-shirt for crying out loud.
I'm with her on that. I will say and I'm showing Seth the shirt right now.
Yeah, I will say that this I don't know what the get what the joke is.
So neither I remember when I was a little kid and I was I was working at my aunt,
Nadine's apartment complex and I was running around doing odd ends and odd jobs and stuff.
And I go in, I get to go into their, you know, back office, you employee office. And I
I've never been in an employee. And I took it all serious and stuff, you know, and everything.
And I'm walking back there. And the first thing I see is this poster, missing dog.
Missing one ear has one eye, two legs, goes by the name Lucky. Yeah, that okay. It took me a beat
to like, oh, this poor dog. That's poor dog. Not only does he have all these problems, but he's
missing. It took me a couple of minutes to realize, oh, it's a joke. I was like 10, you know,
whatever. That was a gag. There's no punchline. Yeah. They even say cash reward upon return.
Like it looks like a real legitimate shirt. It does. But they're doing it as a gag. I don't see
where the punchline is. I don't see what the joke is. Just understanding the concept.
Yeah. That's the whole thing is very weird to me. Yeah. On a shirt. And they just,
are they just playing on people's emotions to sell a shirt? I think that's a good question.
It feels like that a little bit on. And in the lack, and again, I don't know that this is a big
company, but it doesn't matter. You know, you got to have a better apology than, hey, we're sorry
are bad. Yeah. We chose this number at random. And I don't mean you have to have a better
apology just in the sense of being one human to another. Certainly on that level. But if you're
a company and nobody's heard of you, what is one thing you need? You want. Press. Yes. Good
PR. Attention. Yeah. Publicity. I mean, I just got done saying there's no shame anymore.
I just lean into it. Just go ahead and I'm not saying you do other shirts like this, but you lean
into the apology. You lean into it. We were wrong. We're sorry. Here's a free shirt. In fact,
and then they remake that shirt. Yes. Cat found. Yes. There you go. See the number off.
Yeah. You can even do that. Like, we don't even work in marketing. We figured this out.
Like, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. So much smarter than they are. We are.
And just and I don't know. It doesn't. It doesn't seem like a funny shirt. It doesn't seem like
a part of it. Yeah. There's there's what is it? We don't know. We don't know. I credit this lady,
though, the way she handled it. I think she did all right. Very well at everything. So that
well, imagine the first whole bunch of times she got those calls. She's like, have you been
getting pumped? What is this? What is this? Can't imagine. We wrap up our first hour with a
odd, funny, good story of the day, our wheelhouse. So a road island animal rescue group is seeking a
new home for a 20-year-old parrot with a vocabulary politely described as radar. I tried to
I did not know about pigeon quest. So I was trying to pitch this parrot to Melissa before and
everything, but she already had. She's good. She's good. Yeah. Yeah. They also, you know, just that
in the background might get me fired. Probably wouldn't go over well. Probably. It's a good call
by you. It was very smart. The forever pause animal shelter in Fall River set on social media that
the bird named Hendrix came from a home where he was not being fed proper food. So he's mostly
naked as a result of malignant and trish. Oh no. Hendrix's feathers are slowly growing back after
being put on a healthier diet, but the post warned that the parrot has one issue. If you adopt Hendrix,
you're basically adopting Samuel Jackson. Pottymouth. The rescue explain Hendrix's vocabulary is
largely made up of curse words and slurs. Oh no. Sometimes when you give him something, he'll say
thank you. If you call him a pretty bird, he'll say thank you. He'll say good morning, baby. That's
as far as the niceties go. Shintel Rogers in the Ministry of Assistant at Forever Pause mentioned.
Wow. The rest of it is all cusses. Things I can't repeat on camera. She said you were on
here for that. Yeah. The social media post was empathetic in its disclaimer. The bird is rated
our parental advisor required a real sour patch kid if one side was sugar and the other side was
arsenic. That's good. Despite the pottymouth parrot's little man, ill manners, the rescue has
already received over 50 adoption applications and is now in the process of choosing the perfect
home for this conversation starter, I guess, at a party. Have you seen my parrot? Have you heard
my parrot? Have you heard my parrot? I can only imagine how many pirates put in for adoption for
this parrot? I mean, it's perfect. My first mate. He'll insult you better than I can. That's
right. I want this parrot. I really do. I want this parrot. It's also really cool to hear
that the parrot is on the trend of good health. Yes, on the man. Yes. I'm so sad. I don't know
that you so most of the time from what I understand, I should say, I've known two different people
that have had parrots. And for what I understand from them, most of the time, the parrots pick things
up themselves. Every time they tried to teach them good morning or something, the parrot wasn't going
to learn it. Even when they were given a treat or something, the parrot just basically picked up
language on its own. This parrot sounds like it grew up with my dad and me. This is another thing
that I don't know. I don't know if this is every parrot, so forgive me. But the parrots that I was
around, they also picked up the accent. Like one of these parrots was in a Puerto Rican family
with a Puerto Rican family. And it would say, hello, hello. It would say things like that. But then
it would say, it was wild. It was wild. That's crazy. To the point where my friend Jamal, his
youngest sister, I thought it was her sometimes. Wow. Yeah. Well, they are mimic. They're just
literally mimicking the sound. And that's what it is. So that would make sense. They would pick up
all the little nuances of it, right? Yeah. They're very cool birds. Yeah. So if you get one, prepare
for it to, you know, be in your will. Because it's going to outlive. They live a very long time.
Yes, they do. The long time. My aunt Karen had a parrot once. Captain Nemo was named. He was an
ornry cuss. I mean, I don't think it had a bad vocabulary, but it was mean. It's a mean parrot.
I don't know that I'd want to pair. I mean, I don't really care about the language part that
is seeing swear words or anything like that. I like the idea of a parrot that just is great at
respond. Like say you're on a phone call and you don't want to be on. You can just put the parrot
on there. Yeah. No. Really? They said what? No. Like a parrot that can do that. It sounds just like
you. Yeah. That'd be awesome. I like the idea of a parrot. Good morning, everybody. We all,
you've listened to me long enough. You all know that I have my routines and I go to and stuff.
Maybe I could just have a parrot. Yeah. They just teach the parrot to be great.
You know, how many morning shows are doing that? Huh?
There's an untapped market right there. Possibly there's a reason why. Yeah, I think you're right.
We will be back after this. This is locally grown radio WFHR 1320 AM W24 ADE Wisconsin
