Good morning, Wisconsin.
Morning, world.
It's a new day.
Thanks for kicking it off with us at WFHR.
Got your host, James, behind the mic.
I am joined by your head of news, our co-host, Melissa K.
Good morning.
Head of production and co-host, Seth Haback.
Good morning.
And the best listeners in radio.
Don't know what happened there.
Got cut off.
Got cut off.
It's your name now.
It's a lot of people say that when they don't know how to pronounce it.
Your news, Seth Haback.
Tell Beth and the boys that you're name now.
That's my dudes.
We gotta go.
It's canon.
We gotta go with it.
We gotta go with it.
We got great stuff going on this morning.
We're gonna kick it off the way we like to with our friend Bert Emberlow.
Talk a little mother nature.
Good morning, Brett.
Good morning.
How are you?
I'm doing good over here.
How are you?
We can't talk, but we're good.
Yes, other than that.
It won't affect our audio radio.
We're good at all.
Really?
Not doing well as well.
It's a Monday.
It's such a Monday.
It happens to us all.
You know what I mean?
Thank goodness for that excuse.
You know, the unofficial start to summer Memorial Day weekend.
I think you're gonna let it bring their turned off, right?
Yeah.
You feel like it's all right now.
It does.
Brittany, I do want to take a second.
I really, really cannot thank you enough for the coverage that you've been able to do, especially
over the last couple of weeks.
And I've written the last couple of days, really.
With some of the work that you've been doing, we really do appreciate it.
And finding out more and more about how some of our Wisconsin families are doing after the last couple of storms will be done.
Yeah, that was crazy on Thursday that severe weather outbreak.
Nine tornadoes confirmed.
I mean, a couple of them were pretty strong.
A lot of damage was done.
A lot of people worry and anxious, but the community comes together and they're all helping each other out, which is so beautiful to see.
But we're just starting severe weather season.
Yeah.
Take this look all up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, this early into things, we're already at some of the numbers we are.
Yeah.
Keep in mind all summer.
Keep in mind throughout the whole time.
So, what are we looking at for this week, though, Brittany?
We do have a big system rolling in, but it is not going to bring severe weather.
It is, however, going to bring lots of rain, some thunder, and we could see maybe a flooding potential.
Depends how far the system lifts north, but it's going to be a soaking rain moving in.
Pretty much the southern half of the state is going to be drenched with an inch or two of rainfall.
Here for us, though, we're right on that edge where maybe we'll see a quarter of an inch.
Maybe we'll see an inch and a quarter.
So, it kind of depends.
This is going to start probably through the overnight, a few little showers start to move in.
But by late tomorrow morning, 9pm or so, that soaking rain is going to start.
And the winds are going to be feisty, too.
They're going to be gusting around 40 miles per hour tomorrow.
Today, they're already breezy, gusting around 30.
It's going to be this east wind, the entire time, as the system moves by.
So, it's going to be damp for dark, dreary, gusty, and highs are only going to be at about 50 tomorrow.
Probably feeling more like 40, so what feels like outside right now is going to be our highs tomorrow plus the rain and the winds on top of that.
So, it's going to be a dreary midweek.
This kind of lingers into Wednesday, too.
Temperatures start to climb a little bit more towards the 60s, though.
And then we try things out by Thursday.
And as we look ahead into Memorial Day weekend, I mean, I'm given the green light.
Go ahead, get those damn thing things ready.
The tent, honestly, the weather is fantastic.
Good, nice.
You have chances of rain on Monday.
We'll keep looking at that for you, because you know, the forecast always changes.
But I know people are thinking about it already.
Appreciate that, Brittany.
You know, it is good weather if you're a moody writer.
Trust me.
Trust me on that, trust me.
Or you like to curl up with a good book.
Yeah, that's too perfect weather for that.
You want a reason?
No, I can't go outdoors.
It's raining.
I have to stay in and read my new book.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, that's awesome.
Real quick, Brittany, before we let you go, I am doing a bit of a kind of a survey here.
I'm curious.
In grade school, throughout your grade school career and everything, did you ever have a class pet?
Was there ever a class pet in your grade school?
One of your grades, classes.
I think we had little chicks or one point, but it wasn't like a class pet.
It wasn't like the school.
I didn't have an actual classroom pet.
I missed out on that.
I have talked to about almost 30 people now, and I, not a one.
Nobody had a class.
No, I didn't have one.
We're going to get into this in a minute.
I'm starting to think, I think this was created by TV writers.
Yes.
I think it was.
I think it was created by TV writers.
Brittany, appreciate you putting up with us.
I put it up with me.
Thank you so much for the time.
You have a good morning.
You too.
Bye, Brittany.
Best in the business.
One of our favorite people to talk to.
We get to every morning.
Brittany kicks off our show with us, and we get you guys ready for your day ahead.
We have got good stuff coming up, everybody.
They'll have a paper or a day anniversary club is right around the corner.
After that, a new study that found that their fiber might be helping prevent us absorbing forever chemicals.
Want to get into that?
Really.
Another good thing for fiber, nice.
Tiktok has got a prompt for kids on their apps that is interesting.
I want to dive into that one as well.
It is a Monday.
You know how we're going to kick off to 10 o'clock hour with the kitchen's open.
The kitchen's open.
Already see Beth bopping around here and everything getting ready.
I don't know if she brought any big goods.
Look at this.
I don't smell anything.
The door shut, guys.
We're looking forward to doing that.
How did she know that?
She's not even here.
I know.
That was weird.
Oh my god.
That would not surprise me.
Terrifying.
Terrifying.
I'd actually take a little comfort in that.
I feel a little better.
Melissa is watching you.
We kick off to you.
I could probably use my new horror movie.
The 10 o'clock hour kids is open.
We're getting a little bit of entertainment news.
Netflix is up to a bunch of weird stuff I want to get into.
And the weird question, Larry David S. Paul McCartney.
Got that one coming up.
This one?
Yes, one.
And the top searched songs for each summer since 2010.
Oh, we'll dive into that a little bit.
Interesting.
And before we wrap up the show, things foreigners actually like about Americans.
The less and less is a smaller lick.
Keeps getting smaller for some reason.
I'm not sure why.
I thought that would be a fun way to kick off Monday.
Yeah, that's good one.
We'll touch on our schedule.
We've got other good stories of the day.
And a couple of other things we want to touch on here and there.
But I do want to start here with this.
And granted, this all stems from, of course, the Simpsons episode.
Oh, naturally.
Like everything.
It's a classic episode where Bart calls into it.
But it didn't start there.
I was actually calling looking for like sounders and stuff because these Simpsons for a long time had a radio DJs.
A local radio DJs.
And they are your typical 90s morning show DJs with wacky sound effects and everything.
One episode, Bart calls in and you can either win like $20,000 or a pet elephant.
And they're like a lot of radio programming back there.
A lot of radio promotions back then.
They didn't have an elephant.
But they just assume no grown adult is going to choose an elephant over $20,000.
But they didn't expect Bart.
And Bart chooses the elephant and everything.
So he gets stampy.
There's stampy.
It's stampy.
No, you're right.
You're right.
The pet elephant and stuff.
And at one point they go to, he takes it to class with him.
And like the pet hand in the classroom hamster freaks out and runs away or something like that.
Ah, so hence the classroom pet.
Yes.
Got me thinking about it.
I'm like, I have been to more grade schools than most because of how much I moved around.
And including like in second grade went to two different second grade classes and things like that.
And not once did we ever have anything even close to a classroom pet.
And so I just started thinking about it and I started asking a couple of people around here.
And a bunch of my students because they're all younger.
So I'm like, well, so there's a clear huge difference.
Anybody in our age range and not even close.
None of them ever had one.
Oh for 29 and now with Brittany 30.
But younger kids, a lot of them had stuff.
In fact, almost all of them had something like a fish tank or something like that.
So I'm wondering the TV writers create this idea of a classroom pet.
And we just kind of like ran with it.
Now it's a thing because I saw a stat here.
Whereas yeah, 67% of teachers have incorporated classroom pets into virtual learning.
Wow.
Wow.
Which is really cool.
And that's awesome.
I love this thing.
That's high number.
This is all coming from jealousy.
This is all all stepping from that.
Wait, wait, wait.
You said classroom pets into virtual learning?
Into, I'm sorry, into, into their everyday learning.
But also into virtual learning as well.
The article was actually about virtual learning.
And it just, this was one of the stats that came up out of it and everything.
I wonder if from virtual learning, if like teachers were incorporating their own home pets into learning lessons for the kids.
And they were like, well, this works really great.
Let's do this in the classroom.
Anybody out there, if you had a classroom pet, please call up.
Let me know.
544-2600, touch or two away.
100 Pacific Media app.
I wonder if something happened.
So writers are, you know, we have to remember.
So the stuff we watched as we're kids were written by people who are older, right?
And I'm guessing they incorporated stuff that they knew from school that maybe didn't happen when we were there, right?
Go up a generation in your question.
Exactly.
So they, because they, they just said, well, this is what happened when I was in school.
So let's write it into the show kind of thing.
We're like, what, what animals?
We didn't have any pets in our, in our classroom.
What is, what is this?
This is why I thought this would be any question for our audience.
Because, you know, while we have an older audience out there for some regard,
we also have been getting a lot of younger people listening to.
And by that, I mean.
We've got a pretty broad spectrum.
Yeah, we do.
Let's find out.
Good morning, you're on the show.
Yeah, good morning.
Yeah.
And like I said, I'm about 30 some years old and you guys know, we did have pet.
Okay.
And I can't remember what it was, but I know one of the kids would take it home for the summer
and bring it back to the next fall.
Oh, that's cool.
That's right.
Oh my gosh.
So.
Yeah, at least.
So maybe it was a more common thing back then.
Yeah.
Thank you for that, sir.
I can always count on you.
Appreciate you.
You have a great morning.
Yeah.
You too.
Yeah, that's great.
Awesome.
Very proven James.
Yeah, there we go.
There we go.
There we go.
That's pretty interesting.
I thought that was pretty cool.
You're of a certain age.
I love the fact that it's coming back though that it's becoming, you know, like they're
doing it again.
Yes.
Like we had a period of time where it wasn't and then suddenly we're doing it again.
I seem to remember somebody bringing in pets in school.
Like you could bring your, like a, bring a pet to school day.
But yeah.
You only wanted a time because somebody brought in a tarantula.
Oh, yeah.
I see.
And I remember seeing that.
But it was just like for the day.
Right.
Like a show and tell animal pet show and teller something like that.
Yeah.
I love the, like you said, Melissa, we're bringing this back and everything.
I also love the TV writing of it.
And the kid that brings the tarantula and it gets loose.
Yeah.
Thanks Andy Doran.
Yeah.
If you bring a tarantula to school, you know it's going to get loose.
You have to know that.
Have you seen tarantulas?
They move extremely slow.
Okay.
They're not fast spiders, okay?
And they're literally a skate artist, like they need to be.
I think they could be fast when they need to be.
Have you seen them catch a bug?
Boy, most things are.
No.
Yeah.
That's what they need to be.
Including me.
Yeah.
Most things that you would never think and run.
Yeah.
I don't run.
Except when I'm being chased.
That's right.
Yep.
Those knives out.
Then I'll be, I'll be motoring then.
Had a, had a friend Billy grow up that would not run, would not move.
And Jim class, any of these things or whatever.
One time though, I saw Billy move it.
There's a lot of time.
That's for a radio.
But yeah.
Definitely was moving once.
And I please keep this conversation going everybody.
Yeah, we want to hear what your class pets want.
Yeah.
If you had one, that'd be really fun.
That'd be cool.
And we'll come back.
We'll do some celebrating with the LKFA birthday anniversary club.
It's a morning show at WFHR.
I just want to celebrate.
Another day of living.
I just want to celebrate.
Another day of living.
Time for us to do some celebrating with our great friends over at LKFA.
We encourage you to treat yourself tomorrow when they open their doors to 21 Market Avenue.
A beautiful port Edwards.
Open their enjoying the day, probably getting some things set up and ready for a week ahead.
This has got to be one of their busier times a year as far as spring and summer and everything.
Probably.
And let's keep busy everybody.
We want to make plans and get on over there tomorrow.
Check out some great food, great things.
We got to get over there for a team meeting, I think.
Yeah.
That would be a good place.
Yeah.
You're sitting in the community room as they, I believe they call it.
So yeah, about that time, we get together for a team meeting and why not do it over there?
You know, we have food.
Make sense to me.
Food.
Scout the air.
I think that'd be fun.
We want, we'll meet you over there, everybody.
Their door is open for the week tomorrow.
Make plans ahead on over to LKFA at 221 Market Avenue.
Beautiful port Edwards.
And I mean, I don't know, check out those pies.
Yeah, sign up for their, you know, follow their Facebook page because every Monday morning you will see a list of what pies are available.
And that will make you hungry.
And you'll get over.
Make you very happy.
Yeah, that too.
Oh, I just made me happy even thinking about like this.
I was just throwing it out there, but now that I'm talking about it, we set it out of the air.
We don't have to do this now, yeah.
I get us your birthdays and anniversaries, everybody.
We love celebrating with you.
You can email us info at WFHR.com.
You can direct messages on our Facebook pages.
And of course, you can call on up.
That's right.
715-424-2600.
Or it's just a touch or two away on the Civic Media app.
Appreciate you guys joining us with those.
Keep them coming, everybody.
I have a one through three here.
Seth, give me a one through three.
Uh, two.
Right in the middle.
Yeah, yeah.
The pickle in the middle.
Yeah, there we go.
That goes.
Let's take a look at our birthdays and anniversaries.
First up, we're wishing a very happy birthday to Sandy Het.
Happy birthday, Sandy.
Happy birthday, Sandy.
Enjoy your day, Sandy.
Hope it's a good one for you.
Uh, we appreciate everybody getting us these.
I'm pretty sure if I have it right.
So everyone, I don't remember every name, of course,
because we've been doing this for almost 10 years and stuff.
Right.
I believe Sandy, we have every year.
And I appreciate that.
Yeah.
It means like that that we get to celebrate every year with you guys.
Every year.
Nice continuity.
Appreciate that.
Happy 46th anniversary to Jerry and Lynn Montac.
Oh, Jerry and Lynn, happy anniversary.
Congratulations.
Yes.
We wish you guys a great 46th and joy.
Many happy returns.
And our qualifiers today celebrate in their 52nd anniversary.
Whoa.
Phil and Holly Johnson.
Oh, Phil and Holly got to be a little bit better.
No.
Yeah.
Come more years on there, you know.
Congratulations, you two.
Yeah.
Have a 52nd and celebrate all week long, Isaac.
Absolutely.
Well, who are you sharing your day with?
Well, let's take a look.
Starting off, a couple of great singers.
First up, Sam Smith is 33.
He's only 33.
Yeah, that's blown my mind.
Yeah, that blew me away.
I did not realize he was that.
Oh, stay with me.
I'm not the only one.
Too good at good buys.
Money on my mind.
Lay me down.
Pray, of course.
He's got a handful.
Like for such a young Korean.
But I don't know.
Isn't that in recent or anything like that?
Right.
I don't know much about him.
But I do recognize that voice.
It's fantastic voice.
It's fantastic voice.
Got a very good voice.
But not as good as I, well, to me, I think.
That's not fair.
Also, 33, Laney Wilson.
Oh, to the same age too.
Wow.
Another great voice.
Easily one of my favorite artists I've heard in the last five,
10 years or whatever.
Now, I will say, if I just heard her music, I might think that.
But it's so much more about who she is as a person.
How vulnerable and real she has been about her story and her upbringing.
Not nearly the same thing as Dali Parton.
But in her vulnerability at such a young age in this industry,
I really admire that.
Seeing her just jumping into things.
She has done a whole lot of MC stuff.
I'm watching what is the AMC CMAs?
I'm not sure which one it was.
One of those.
But it's Luke Bryant, Peyton Manning and her.
And Luke Bryant and Peyton Manning had done this before.
They've been at this for almost 10 years.
They're very good.
She's up there.
It's her first time really doing something like this.
And just stealing the scene every second.
And looking more comfortable and natural than anybody else out there.
That's the thing about her.
She just really feels like somebody that this is what you see is what you get.
I like people that write their own lyrics.
I like an artist that I can tell their voice even if I don't know the song.
There's a lot about her I'm enjoying.
And as I said in the Sunrise show and I will die on this hill until...
Until probably like what January or I think they announced this or whatever
with a Super Bowl halftime show is going to be.
It's her.
He's riding on it.
He's riding on this one.
Andy Wilson and Chris Stapleton is your bet.
That's my bet.
That's my bet.
Seems pretty safe.
Yeah.
This year's ACM entertainer of the year as well.
Yes.
And Shooter Jennings is 46 a day.
Wayland Sun.
He got Stephen King to play a DJ for him in the movie Black...
In the concept of him, Black Ribbons.
They got real tired Stephen King.
The Jennings family...
Stephen King has actually got a lot of ties to some old country outlawed artists like
Willie Nelson, Johnny Estes and stuff.
All things.
It's weird.
And then when you think about it, like, okay.
If those guys were going to hang out with a writer, who were they hang out with?
Stephen King.
I mean, a big set.
Yeah.
A lot of countries hangers come from Maine.
I don't know.
Yeah.
That's a good point.
It's a good question.
I know you and I, one of our favorite ballers growing up because South Kevin Garnett is 49.
Yes.
Of course, got here.
He was the face of the Timberwolves for many, many years, actually.
So, yeah.
One of the last great high school athletes to jump, make the jump from high school to the
pros.
18 years old.
Yeah.
And pull it off.
Like a lot of guys do it.
But for every LeBron James or Kevin Garnett, there are like 90 guys who are 18, 19 and their
career is done because they should have went to college.
Yeah.
He became a superstar.
One of my favorite stories, Kevin Garnett.
Melissa, he, he's one of these guys that trash talked a lot, but not to other athletes,
but to himself.
There's a great story of a young rookie in the, I, somebody really good.
I can't think of who it was.
But they're, it's their first game and they're having a good game and they're out rebounding
Kevin Garnett.
And Garnett is like yelling and screaming in all this.
And they're like, oh, God, they really looked up to Kevin Garnett and they're waiting for
a moment to talk to him.
So the end of the game finally goes up to Garnett and he's like, look, man, I'm sorry if
I upset you or aggravated you.
You're one of my favorite players.
It's like, what are you talking about?
Like, you were talking over there is like, oh, no, I was talking to myself.
Kevin Garnett would be having these very loud conversations with himself and for every
like time he would trap talk somebody else.
He was just talking to himself half the time.
That's amazing.
It's a great athlete.
Yes.
And I don't know why this fits Seth, but Kevin Garnett's birthday is same day as Bill Lambeer
or 68.
One of the most vicious NBA players of all time.
Yeah.
Champion too.
He was.
Back to back titles for the pistons.
He was when your video game, first of all, Bill Lambeer had a video game.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's crazy.
Different times.
Different times.
Yeah.
It was called Bill Lambeer's combat goal or combat basketball combat.
That tells you who he was.
Yeah.
Archie Manning is 76 former New Orleans Saints quarterback, father of Peyton and Eli and
Cooper.
Of course.
And he was a wide receiver in high school, but spinal stenosis ended his football career.
Oh, I didn't know that.
Oh.
Archie, not maybe not the career.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good career.
Yeah.
Good career.
Good career.
One of the better actresses, one of the more beautiful people I've seen.
Also, one of the most intimidating human beings I've ever seen.
I don't, I say that about three or four people.
It's my mom.
It's.
It's.
It's.
It's Grace Jones.
Grace Jones.
She was 77 today.
Old school supermodel and singer who played Zoola and Conan, the barbeque, the destroyer.
She was also one of the greatest bond villains ever, Mayday, and a view to kill.
And just as beautiful as intimidated to me as a young man, like just, I don't know what
it was.
There was not like an athlete or a boxer that I was ever intimidated by.
Maybe, you know, certainly when I got older, Mike Tyson or somebody like that.
But I don't know if it was growing around hockey players or whatever.
I just never really saw athletes as intimidating or actors or anything like that.
But something about Grace Jones and that stare of hers, they're just like, hey, okay,
whatever you want, Miss Jones, at 77, she walks in this room right now and anything she
wants, I'm making it happen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Also great, really several albums too.
Also a very good musician.
Yes.
Really good.
All around.
If you look at the term supermodel, it didn't really exist before, you know, models like
her.
And that that she was one of the forefront, oh, she was troblasers and then speaking of
trailblazers, Pete Townsend 80.
He got old.
Yeah.
And are we happy that he did?
Yeah.
Well, we're glad you got old Pete.
It's good to have you around.
Incredible songwriter.
Yes.
Great guitar player.
Inventor of the windmill, really, or at least made it famous.
He's the one that made it famous, right?
Pete Townsend multiple shows Roger D'Altery talked about where he would finish after he had
punctured his forearm with doing the windmill and hit it on, hit it on something and stuff
and like literally like really bad, but just kept going.
I know that there's a lot of bands that are like them, there will never be another who.
No.
Never.
Never going to be another.
Very singular act.
Some people no longer with us.
Dusty Hill, part of the stay in 49, passed away in 2021, one of the members of ZZ Top.
Oh, that's right.
Yes.
The only guy with Dusty.
The only guy with them.
Great drummer, though, I believe.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The great, the legend Peter Mayhew born in this day in 1944, Chewbacca in the first seven
Star Wars movies before Juneus Samata took over the role who has done a great job within
as well.
All seven foot one of him, Peter Mayhew, seven foot one, I think.
Yeah.
Wow.
And one of the most gentle, I mean, you see interviews with them, one of the sweetest
gentlest people on the planet.
Yes.
I loved seeing his interview.
Yes.
Really?
Yeah.
With that very refined British accent that he had, I mean, it was all, yeah, he was great.
Also born in this day in 1925, passed away in 1965, way too young, Malcolm X.
One of the most controversial, like people that we talk about when we talk about legends
and talk about people of that time, and I hope that people can, especially when we have
all these years to look back.
I am not saying that Malcolm was any more a perfect man than Martin Luther King was, but
I do think that a lot of what he was saying and a lot of his momentum, his meaning, a
lot of his passion is very understandable now than it would have, might not have been
back then.
Some of it.
And then there's also a lot of things that you wouldn't agree with, including Malcolm
himself.
In his last month, last years of life, Malcolm X went to Mecca, as ever Muslim is supposed
to do.
You're supposed to travel to Mecca at least once your life, and he goes there and he's
actually in, he's paying to the temple and he sings and people praying next to him would
pale skin.
And he's like, well, wait a minute, they're, these people are praying to the same God
I am and everything.
And it opens his mind and it opens his world.
He was actually him and Martin Luther King, you know, we're working, we're trying to work
together.
We're beginning to the one of my favorite posters as a kid and one of my favorite pictures
of all time is a beautiful picture of Malcolm, who Malcolm went to see Martin, one of his
speeches.
And afterwards they were talking and somebody took a picture and it's just those two
shaking hands, but you see Malcolm smiling and you see a man who has come full circle,
who has found the anger, has found a way to funnel the anger into intelligence.
And one of these smarter human beings to walk the planet, one of the greatest speakers
to walk the planet.
And a man who was so much more than anger, who was so much more than divisiveness and found
that at the end of his life, I wish when people would look a bit at Malcolm X, you talk
about the whole story and talk about the man where he came because even Martin didn't
get there.
Caesar Chavez never got to that place or anything, Gandhi didn't even get to that place.
You saw a complete human being in Malcolm's life and somebody who, as much as he loved
his faith and loved the message and loved the cause, not as much as he loved Betty
Shabbaz as a man who loved his woman, loved his wife.
If you watch interviews with him, he's very, most of the time people ask some serious
questions and he gave serious answers, but whenever they talked about Betty, that's
when he would relax, when he would smile, when he would talk warmly about, yes, yes,
it was a true partnership marriage.
As a young kid, I hear the quote, just because you are born in the slums, does not mean
the slums are born in you and it literally changed my life and it's his and it started
with him.
Yeah, just not at all a perfect person.
I'm not romanticizing the man or anything like that, but a whole complete human being
and that's saying something considering he was taken way too young from us.
And you mentioned gentle giant and Peter Mayhew, well, also celebrate the birthday as we
wrap up Andre the Giant, born in the day of 1946, a pest away in 1993, a professional
wrestling wouldn't be where it is without Andre the Giant, incredible athlete when it comes
to those things.
And I do mean athlete for the amount of agility in those things he had, but of course a great
actor and personnel.
No rhymes now.
I mean it.
Anybody want to pee that?
Oh, Fessick.
Oh, Fessick.
Some of the greatest behind the scene stories in any movie of all time are Andre the Giant
during the Princess Bride.
Oh, they all loved him.
They all loved that man, especially look at Robin Wright Penn talking about her interactions
with him and how they had a lifetime friendship up until his passing and everything.
The reason we say gentle giant is probably because of Andre the Giant.
And we wish a good friends over at El Café a great day, enjoy your day out there and
get ready for tomorrow because they'll be back open tomorrow everybody.
Get on over at El Café tomorrow, make plans for the head and over there at 221 Market
Avenue and Beautiful Port Edwards and get us more of our days and energy.
James, don't be mad at me, but I just sent you a reel of them making a death by chocolate
pie.
Oh, I can't wait to check that out.
That's all I'm going to be doing during the break.
Look at that pie.
Yeah, you guys go ahead and listen to some sports news and then take a bit and do some
our partners and we'll be back in more show.
Welcome back everybody, morning show here at WFHR.
Melissa, Seth and James here with you.
We hope you're having a fantastic day out there.
Thanks so much for joining us.
Happy Monday, everybody.
Thank you Melissa for sending me that video.
I'd not see that.
I encourage everybody to check out El Café's Facebook page.
They put some great stuff.
They're really good.
Wow.
The amount of chocolate they put in that.
Oh my goodness.
It is.
It is.
You're going to go.
You may as well go all out.
Yeah, they're not kidding.
I love that they share that stuff.
I like seeing those kind of things just out of interest, but also it just makes you so
darn hungry.
Yes.
I can eat a whole sweet tooth going.
I love the music they chose for that too.
That was pretty funny.
If I had tightened it better, I would have started our bump in music to come into the
segment here.
Shout out to our friends over at El Café.
I local support, local everybody.
Let's dive into this one because this is sort of, you know, it's the opposite of good
PR, really.
It's the opposite of what they do at El Café.
If you're booking an Airbnb, you might skip over the long list of amenities because of
most of them, most of them don't really matter.
Hangers, first aid kits, a tea kettle, you know, what have you.
I should mention that before diving into this, I've looked at a lot of Airbnb's, but
I've never done it.
I know a couple of people who have, but I've never done it myself.
I will say it seems very interesting to me because I come from some hotel world and
I'm so used to hotels and everything.
I'd like to try it.
Like, see, you know what it's like.
But not this, not this place or maybe without this because there are some amenities where
you should look out for like hot water.
A woman named Tanya is going viral after she shared her interaction with an Airbnb host
who messaged her to stay to say that there was a, quote, temporary issue with the hot
water at the property she rented.
It was less than a week before her stay, so she asked if she'd be refunded if it wasn't
fixed before she arrived.
They said they're, quote, unable to offer a refund in this situation because hot water
was not included as an amenity in the booking.
Oh, no.
Oh boy.
They apologized for the inconvenience, but said that they, you know, they, you know, they
did the whole thing where I appreciate you understanding.
Even though the person hasn't agreed anything yet, they're just trying to like, yeah, it's
the, again, going back to kind of these little, like, these situations we put each other
in in society and, you know, where, you know, on its surface, well, of course you're going
to complain.
But in the moment in everything, oh, I don't want to, I don't want to do anything.
Oh, you know what?
You're right.
It's fine.
It's fine.
You just roll with it.
And that's what they're hoping for with a quick, you know, goodbye and understanding
there.
Tanya not doing that.
Tanya responded.
So you're choosing to rip me off because you didn't list in an assumed amenity.
And that's a think a key term there assumed amenity, right?
You also didn't list windows indoors.
If those are missing, I guess that's fine too.
Well, man, to me, well done, Tanya, the host didn't budge, but Airbnb stepped in with
a full refund.
They're also helping her with another booking.
They're going to review the other host, but it's unclear if anything will come of it.
Apparently, hot water is an amenity option that hosts can check when listing a property.
And technically, they may only be responsible for delivering on stuff they promise.
Still, this seems pretty shady.
That's it.
That's shady.
That's not all.
So who does it include a roof?
Yeah.
You know?
Walls.
List all the amenities here.
Yes.
It's a shelter.
Yes.
We have walls.
Make sure what kind of floor covering you have.
Yeah.
We do offer a bed.
Yeah.
Hey, guys, check out this Airbnb.
They have walls.
My favorite kind of Airbnb.
I like that.
I like that.
That's different.
I like that.
I don't know about that.
Oh, that seems a little bit.
Yeah.
It's again, getting off on technicalities when you don't provide the service you promised.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
It's ridiculous.
So what was that Disney was trying to do here not too long ago?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, that's right.
I remember what you're talking about.
Oh, boy.
Real quick, I wanted to mention something because we just got a text into our WFHR text line.
Appreciate you guys doing that.
Feel free to hit us up anytime with any of your stuff.
We know that we are dealing with a poor signal right now here in Rapids, which we're working on.
And it's getting some things worked out here with our tower moving and everything.
We were talking about this last week, but still dealing with some issues.
So popping around town this week, when I was trying to listen, there was a lot of static as well.
So we understand that's going on and appreciate all of you streaming us to keep listening.
Right.
We appreciate that.
App is free.
Yes.
The app is absolutely free.
I was listening this weekend on 1320 AM, and that signal was coming in pretty good.
Oh, yeah.
So there's always that stuff.
It's an option.
Yeah.
That's it as well.
I want to dive into this one with you guys.
A high fiber diet can be good for a lot of reasons, but I don't think a lot of us heard about this one.
All right.
A study found getting more fiber in your diet can reduce the amount of forever chemicals in your body.
Wow.
They're found in certain cleaning products, not stick cookware and even shampoo.
And they're called forever chemicals because they don't break down easily in the environment.
And I feel like even that sentence isn't telling you enough of what forever chemicals are.
We've touched on this subject with, you know, the three of us a number of times.
But I've never seen, I've never heard of this.
Almost everyone has them in their blood now.
And it can take years to flush them out.
So preventing more from getting in seems quite a vital seems like a good idea, right?
This the study found we don't absorb as many when we eat lots of fiber, but they're not sure why.
They think it might create a sort of gel that lines your stomach and prevents them from being absorbed.
Oh, interesting.
Good sources of fiber include fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, and seeds, foods that don't have much include meat, eggs, pasta, etc.
And white bread, which is unfortunate for me.
For one, I have to say this and I don't know if you guys are, if this is obvious or not.
But it's another one of these times in society where instead of just fixing the problem,
we're finding ways around it to make our life more, more, better, or studies that'll back, you know, what's going on.
So that's easier.
Like any chance to take the easy route.
Unfortunately, we do this very often or shortcuts when there happen a lot.
When there is no shortcut with anything with forever in the title, especially this,
when we should be putting more of a focus on these companies that are doing and continuing to do these kind of stuff and putting more forever chemicals.
Exactly.
Yeah.
And it's also speaks to how long this has been going on.
This is evolution people.
This is what real evolution sounds and looks like in everything.
It's not us growing gills or wings or anything.
It's our brains and our bodies adapting to modern times.
If you go back, one of the things that always gets me in time, machine stuff, whenever they're going back in time,
nobody talks about the air.
Nobody talks about how much clean they're the air, you know, they go back into the sense of 1600s.
And the first thing you get out of that time machine, your lungs are going to be of reacting to that.
Like there's just no coffee.
Yeah.
Or how about the person that talks to you?
How about the person that travels to the future?
And they have to have a hard time breathing this air or something like that.
Our bodies over time have evolved to this.
There's certain, there's plenty of examples of that.
And this is not me with a cool opinion.
This is actual smart people that I've read up out of everything.
I'm just, you know, synopsizing and everything.
This is what's happening.
Our bodies are evolving.
Our bodies are evolving to this because this is how big of a problem it's been.
That we've had to do that.
Yeah.
All right.
We just need to hit the companies that are doing it and putting it into our land and our bodies because this isn't really on us.
No.
No, you're right.
You're absolutely right.
And they knew about this in the 30s when they were making them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And it's one of the, we have to not only call them out, but call out our political leaders.
Yeah.
Our leaders, yeah.
To hold these companies accountable and to not give into them.
I mean, to not just take the low dollars that are there for them and everything.
To not be bought out.
You know, I don't think that that's, I think I never thought of that before.
But you would think I would have coming from Chicago.
The one that the elite, this is where politics has gone for me.
Please don't be bought.
Just don't be bought.
You know, I think it's your own person.
We don't even have to agree politically.
Like, but if you are running for politics or if you are in politics, please just don't be bought.
Just don't have money in your pocket.
You know, that's the job that you are elected to do by the people who elected you.
Like, that's it.
There's the bottom.
Yeah, you are paid by the way.
Yeah.
I mean, it's not like you're doing it for free.
I mean, if you want to, if you're getting, like, if you want to make, if you want to be rich,
don't get into politics.
How about that?
Try something else.
I mean, God, I mean, don't think we're asking a lot here.
And I am very disappointed that white bread doesn't do more.
No, you're, I'm sorry, dude.
I am constantly, I feel like I am constantly reminded that the bread I eat the most of does nothing for me.
There's nothing for you.
There's nothing for me.
Could be destroying you from the inside.
That's really disheartening.
That's really true.
I love white bread.
Oh, when you start making your own white bread, James, it'll be better for you.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, okay.
There we go.
You're a bread machine.
Now, you know, you know what's in it.
You know exactly what's in it.
Yeah.
Melissa, I, I, I, darn it.
I forgot to text you this this week.
And I was, I was just going to text Melissa, some bread maker.
So I was looking at it.
No context.
Nothing else.
Just bread maker.
It was like 11 at night or something like that.
It was like, what the?
We'll be back with more show coming up.
Welcome back, everybody.
Mornings here at WFHR, locally grown radio.
Melissa, Seth and James hanging out with you.
I like to think of this as Melissa's song.
Just, just stuck right.
Stuck in the middle.
Poor thing.
That's why she's at home.
That's why she's at home.
That's why she's at home.
That's why she's at home.
Thanks for joining us, everybody.
We appreciate the company.
I thought this was an interesting one.
TikTok announced a new feature that will prompt teenagers to stop scrolling and start meditating.
Yeah.
Okay.
If your, if your kid is on TikTok after 10 p.m.
They'll see an alert in their 4U feed that offers a guided meditation to help them fall asleep.
Then if they keep scrolling, they'll get hit with a second prompt that fills the whole screen.
No, she said.
Wow.
TikTok's parent company, Bite Dance, says that they tested the feature with a hundred, a handful of teenagers this year,
and only 2% turned the feature off.
It's in response to public pressure and claims TikTok is melting our child's brains.
They're making it available for adults too, but anyone under 18 will have it turned on by default.
Oh, okay.
All right.
Yeah.
And I looked at an example that they had of it on there.
And it seemed like something that might, you know, I work.
Yeah.
It's just a friendly reminder.
Yeah, exactly.
Right?
It's not, it doesn't force you.
No.
No.
And I don't see a-
Hey, maybe you should stop scrolling.
It doesn't seem to be a harm.
Yeah.
Like, like a couple of months ago when we were being told that it was, it was the, you know, the death of everything.
And then somebody got something in their pocket, and then all of a sudden they're going to find-
Everything's fine.
Everything's fine.
Everything's fine now and everything.
Funny how that works.
Yeah.
But they, they, they, the idea of banning it is not the conversation that I, is used to be with this topic.
I, you know, I love the, the, the, the refrain is always the same.
It's always the same.
Kids are melting their brains.
So what was it when we were kids?
Yeah.
Heavy metal music.
MTV.
Yep.
Yep.
And TV.
Video games.
Melt in our brain.
You know, just TV in general.
Those brains kept to melt in, you know, so-
And then-
Older listeners might remember that, you know, radio was good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Elvis.
Elvis.
I mean, oh, geez, corrupting morals.
I'm telling you.
If anybody saw Elvis's hips, like they, the way it was at the Ed Sullivan show where they wouldn't-
They would not know-
Nope.
The way it's down?
Yep.
That's right.
It's a long line.
It's a long line and stuff.
And before that, was it books?
It was novels.
It was, you know, a few-
All magazines.
Comic books.
Yes.
Comic books.
Comic books.
Melt your brain.
The old-
Kids got, you know, the time-life magazine, but inside it is a comic book.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, you know, clearly this has been a thing for a long time.
Right.
It's just modern times, modern devices and all of that.
New things, right?
Yeah.
I appreciate what they-
I appreciate any attempt really.
Right.
And I like the idea-
Actually, I'm a big fan of meditation.
So, I like the idea of promoting meditation in any chance.
That's cool.
That's cool.
Everything.
What I get tired of is the-
It's a constant thing that we see here where kids doing this, kids brains, kids this, kids that,
and no adult responsibility.
No.
Adults get in play and it's just, well, ban it.
Well, don't ban it.
Well, maybe there's a middle ground.
Maybe there's a gray area.
That we all live in and everything.
I get so tired of the quickness to blame kids for things.
When the adults in the room take no darn responsibility.
We're seeing with NIL and transfer portal, seeing it a lot in college sports right now.
A lot of adults blaming kids for being kids.
And no adults taking any darn personal responsibility.
Why are you-
Why do we get older?
Why are we in charge?
If we're not going to take any dang responsibility for this stuff.
Well, no adult watches TikTok, James.
I don't know if you knew that.
It's just kids that watch TikTok.
That's the only group that does anything with TikTok.
When I try to open it up and ask me to give me an age verification if I'm too old.
Yeah, you can't come on TikTok.
You're too old for it.
Sorry.
I'm too old to understand it.
I gave up after about 10 minutes.
100% on that one.
Not much there for me either.
But also if you look at this as a whole, like taking a step back from it.
A lot of times it's banning access to information.
If you really, really take a step back and look at it.
And that's really not okay.
No, no, not when you're-
And it should be the responsibility of the adults to train children and teach them to, you know, like safeguard themselves.
What to look for, what to watch out for.
That's the parent's job.
Critical media thinking.
That's very important.
Do not teach that enough.
Yeah.
Parents' schools, we need to teach that a bit more, I think.
And we go to a story that is a little familiar maybe to our consistent listeners out there.
Because it's going to sound a little like another one.
A Detroit man said he initially thought he was being pranked when he discovered he had won a lottery price of $25,000 a year for life.
Wow.
Oh, whoa.
Michael Garland.
M-I-C-A-L-E.
Michael?
Michael?
It might be a different way of saying Michael.
Yeah.
One or the other.
Michael.
Mr. Garland.
There you go.
Don't Michigan lottery officials.
He bought his ticket for the April 20th.
Lucky for life drawing online.
I've never heard of a lottery like this.
No.
Part of the reason.
It must be a Michigan thing.
Yeah.
A quote, I've been playing Lucky for life for a few years and I always buy my tickets online.
When I saw the email from the lottery about claiming a prize, I logged into my account and thought I was being pranked when I saw my account balance.
It wasn't until I called the lottery confirmed the prize with them that I believed I'd really want.
It still feels like I'm living a dream.
Wow.
Smart man though.
Double checking.
That's what you need to do exactly what you need to do.
What he did.
Yes.
We had a story very similar to this just a while ago.
We did.
I remember you talking about it.
About a couple that didn't believe they had won.
Right.
She thought he was joking.
Something like that.
Yeah.
I feel like we're missing an opportunity here.
There's been a dozen prank shows already.
I want a prank show.
But the prank is real.
It's actually, yeah.
It's a positive prank show in a way.
Right.
Yeah.
Good luck trying to figure that out.
That's not my job.
I came up with the idea.
You go ahead and do something with it.
Where's the writers?
Writers.
You need our writers.
Yeah.
Much more creative people that can come up with the idea.
But I think that'd be a twist on the prank show.
Absolutely.
Hey, you guys won $1,000 a week for life or something.
Yeah, right.
Get out of here.
Yeah, we did it.
See how long you keep doing it.
Yes.
How long that will keep for believing it, even if you keep showing them, you know, the proof that is it.
But no, really.
Keep popping up in the mod places.
How did you know I was here?
Well, you won $1,000.
We've been following you.
Why won't you take $1,000?
I feel like it's a great idea for a show.
I also feel like it will end poorly.
Probably.
No one's interested in that.
I'm guessing I'm popping up the only person it's ever thought about.
And what would take its place?
True crime drama.
Yes, always.
I know it's done.
No, it's done.
We have got to move out of the way and get ready for not only CBS news and news break from Melissa.
But we, of course, are going to kick off things the way we like to in the 10 o'clock hour on a Monday with the Kitchens open.
Beth Hagger is going to be joining us in just a little bit with that.
We've got a fun one lined up for you today.
Be listening for it.
Afterwards, we're getting some entertainment news.
Getting into that.
And then before we wrap up, they show kind of great one here.
This wonderful list.
Things foreigners like about Americans.
We'll get into that.
I just said I didn't read that.
Yeah, that sounds good.
Yeah, I did not pre-read that one.
All right.
I'm looking forward to diving into that.
Very cool.
Don't want to remind everybody it's Seth and I dawned on us this morning.
We are a week away from Rafter baseball.
Opening day.
A week from today.
I got the home opener at Witterfield.
Awesome.
Are you on Memorial Day?
Yes.
Yes.
On Memorial Day.
We're excited about that.
As a programming note, we will not have any of our live original content that they accept for Rafter baseball.
That's right.
That will be played.
We're looking forward to that.
We'll meet you at Witterfield.
Pick up a pocket schedule here, everybody.
There's so cute.
Be on the list and we're going to be giving away tickets soon.
And this Friday on Playmakers over on 105-5 from 4-5.
New manager and coach Ziggy is going to be joining us.
Coach Ziggy.
Yes.
That's a fun name.
We're going to have a lot of fun with that.
That's going to be a great season.
Awesome.
We'll be back with more show.
This is locally grown radio.
