Good morning, Wisconsin.
Morning, world.
It's a new day.
Thanks for kicking it off with us at WFHR.
Got your host, James behind the mic.
I am joined by CEO of your United Way of South Wind and Am's counties, Terry Johns.
Good morning.
Good morning.
Good morning.
Good morning.
How are you doing down there?
Great.
Doing okay.
We had some hail.
Had some pretty crazy weather here for a little bit, but it came and went.
And so far from what I've seen from the community, I had no damages too bad or anything like that.
Pretty okay.
How was it in your end?
Good.
Good.
Yeah.
You know, I actually had to take shelter.
Well, I was just going to take shelter.
I was just going to take shelter.
I was just going to take shelter.
I was just going to take shelter.
I was just going to take shelter.
I actually had to take shelter last night.
I was under multiple tornado warnings.
And, nothing happened here for me, thankfully.
But, I mean, oh my gosh, the National Mother Service is busy today.
There was plenty of tornadoes reported.
Ping pong ball size hailed too just down to the south.
Band cropped may have had a tornado touched down there.
Law enforcement saw some stuff going on.
And then also, it looked like it went toward a team or maybe Planefield area as well
so they're out there surveying the damage to see if that was a tornado and what it was
raided.
But, I mean, that tract kind of north-east bringing some large hail with it and even it went towards
Russia too.
And then those storms kind of made it my way up towards Wastaw.
We saw lots of hail, some wind damage as well.
And the parade of being reported doing major damage just outside of Milwaukee too into that area.
They're seeing proofs ripped off of homes and just destruction.
So, some got it worse than others and we all were definitely eyes to the sky last night.
I feel like with the severe weather warnings all across the state.
One of the things that comes of this along with the data and everything and certainly surveying all the damages
is usually people needing help and one of the things I love about this state is up and down the state
people looking out for each other and helping out regardless if they're neighbors or they're even next to each other zip code-wise.
So, being a lookout for that everybody will be we will be as well.
Hopefully there is no need for that but I was like to set that up if it need be with these kind of events.
I appreciate that Brittany.
Real quick, I don't get to talk to meteorologists that often and I'm a weather nerd.
I've never seen this before when it came to hail.
My parents house and I'm watching it and my dad and mom are of course talking about the tornado warnings and some of that.
Whereas my fur brother Sammy who is a terrier muppet mix is just barking at the hail.
Like he's literally barking at the hail and I don't think I've ever seen it.
It's not the first time he's ever seen hail and I don't know what it was.
Sam's a little older and he doesn't see as well.
So I don't know if that played into it or not.
No, he's not used to it too.
Yeah, but so meteorologists, Brittany, what do I do?
No, I'm kidding.
What is our forecast for today?
What do we got going up for with Mother Nature today?
A little calmer, hopefully.
Yes, much calmer today.
But speaking of it, hail, there was softball size hail reported in northwest Wisconsin in like St. Craig County towards the Claire softball.
I was looking at pictures of these hail stones.
They were like shooting out little spikes.
They look like stars.
They were massive busting out wind shields and stuff.
So yeah, I feel like the animals have that sense of like the atmosphere.
The atmosphere is not good right now.
It would be the hail or the pressure changes or whatever it is.
I feel like they pick up on stuff because my animals are going wild last night too.
But hopefully everybody's anxiety is calming.
We are in the clear of severe weather.
We may have some showers and storms popping up later this afternoon.
But they are not expected to be severe whatsoever, not in our area.
If one gets severe worn, it's just going to have some quarter size hail, maybe some gusty winds with it.
But nothing else more than that.
But that is the system pushing its cold front through today.
We will cool things off as we go into the weekend.
Highs tomorrow are only going to be in the low 60s.
And that's going to stay the case for Sunday too.
And we may even fall to the upper 50s for early next week as another big soaker system heads our way.
So drive this weekend and comfortable.
Hmm, not bad.
I can take that.
Yeah, well, we'll do.
We'll definitely handle that.
Thank you so much, Brittany.
We appreciate you.
Have a great morning.
You too, thank you.
We'll talk later.
And the best in the business right there.
Pretty more low joining us every morning, right in this time slot.
We appreciate her.
So much will hang out with her again on Monday.
Terry and I are going to be hanging out with you over the next couple of hours.
We got some fun things lined up.
The Elcafe birthday anniversary club for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
After our news sports break, we will give you a star of the day with our friends from Calvars.
I got a fun TV theme song lined up for today.
All you 80s kids out there.
The little Tee's little preview right there.
Maybe a hint.
Also, we're going to get into what is the what are the chances you have a quote perfect dog?
Well, we'll get into that.
Oh, I do.
Yep.
I think everybody knows the answer to that.
Everybody does.
We'll get into some entertainment news.
Got some fun stuff there.
And actually have some breaking semi breaking.
Theater local theater news.
Some semi breaking local theater news.
We'll get into it with some local ties into it.
We'll get into that a little bit later.
And it's barbecue day, national barbecue day.
So we're going to get a couple of barbecue things for you here.
We're going to get into everybody that I think are going to be fun.
We got just a national barbecue day poll and some other stats on barbecues as we get ready for a nice weekend.
And we got brewer tickets to give away, Terry.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, every Friday, all summer long.
Us in every civic media radio station is getting every civic media talk station is giving you a chance to give away tickets.
So the real question is, is why aren't we there?
Yes.
Like we should find a Friday home game and we should set up from there.
God.
Oh, I would love the second you said that I got excited to start thinking about where we could be.
Like where we could be set.
And so I've been there.
I've been there.
I've seen I think three games at the stadium.
And I don't know.
I am obviously a sucker for the white socks and I love the history of Rick Lee field.
That is the most overall best experience I've had at a sporting event probably is going to be small games there.
It's fun.
It's a great atmosphere.
And I've been there with, you know, family and I've been there with friends and had a good time either way.
You know, it's good.
It's good.
It's good event.
So we're going to be doing that in a little bippy listening for that everybody as we do every Friday.
Throughout the summer, giving you a chance to win some brewer tickets and root on your brew crew.
Of course, with Terry in right now, I wanted to jump into some United Way conversation and getting update on things.
How are things going over the shop?
Great.
So we've got some stuff going on that the community can help with.
Two different opportunities to donate items.
So we are currently in our diaper drive.
This runs from Mother's Day to Father's Day.
We are collecting new, unopened diapers, wipes, preferably unscented.
If you, if you have sent it, it's okay.
But, you know, if you're going out to buy, preferably unscented.
And then also pasting creams.
And we are collecting those through Father's Day.
And then we'll be distributing two programs in our community that, you know, people seek diapers from.
So this is an identified need.
We started this last year and continue to hopefully help supplement places like the food pantry and the family center and the first choice pregnancy resource center.
Because this is where people come and say, you know, hey, I don't have enough diapers, right?
Like I'm not, I'm not able to keep my child clean in the best way that, that, you know, I should.
So this is a way for the community to get engaged and help.
We had a great showing last year looking forward to that again this year.
And again, just another demonstration of us hearing of a need kind of, you know, scoping it out, making sure that, you know, yes indeed that is the case.
And then, you know, moving maybe a little more quickly than sometimes nonprofits are able to.
You don't trying to be nimble and meet this needs. So if you can help us out, we have a few different, you know, places where diapers can be dropped off.
But of course they can always be dropped at our office at 351 Oak Street here in Wisconsin Rapids.
We also extended this to the Adams County part of our service area this year.
And so diapers in Adams can be dropped at the Adams County extension.
But the other place that you can help us with items is stuff the bus.
So we are collecting school supplies now until lunch by the river on August 7th.
And we encourage you to pick up items like plain colored folders, plain colored notebooks, markers, colored pencils, scissors.
Those are some of the greatest need items that we have.
And we have, you know, already over 150 students registered.
Last year we served 949. So it's significant.
And I also just want to say that, you know, a lot of people want to help out with these.
But you know, whatever they don't want to go to the shopping and that's okay.
For either of these opportunities, diaper drive or school supplies, you can also make a monetary donation.
You just need to tell us that that's where it's supposed to go.
And especially for stuff the bus, because we buy backpacks and those are pricey, right?
Any monetary donations or company sponsorships that that we might get is helpful.
And then for diapers, we use the money honestly to buy the largest sizes because that's where they have the greatest need.
So, you know, people will donate whatever, whatever sizes they donate.
And then we will also go out and buy like the size fives and sixes with the dollars.
And we really appreciate the community doing that.
However you do it, whether you're picking up items when you're out shopping or if you're doing it in the monetary donation,
it all goes to helping the betterment of our community, the strength of our community.
One of the things that I appreciate that you guys do at the United Way.
And this is certainly, you know, wherever you have a United Way near you,
you've got one that hopefully, I believe, is ploppy in tune with your community.
But I certainly have a bit of a more love for our local one here and I'm a homer.
So that's not surprising to anybody.
But when you guys do things like this diaper drive and these, there are no small events with the United Way.
Every event, not only because of having you behind it, I believe that you're going to go big
and you're going to go strong with it, but also the importance of them and the uniqueness of them, I think,
when it comes to, you know, nationally, you're not going to hear in the news.
The news isn't going to start with, well, a shortage of diapers for people or something like that.
So that's where our nonprofits really come into play.
And not every nonprofit is in tune with the community and understanding that this is a need.
I appreciate that so much and I think it's above and beyond.
I also feel like it's on us as a community to be like, okay, well, you guys got the ball rolling.
Let's help you keep it moving.
I think that's certainly with all of our nonprofits, that's the case.
But in particular, with events like this, stuff to desk, these kind of things,
where we're, again, these may not be national stories, but they're big here and they're important here.
And the lengths that they go, I may ramble about this a couple of times
as we're building up school supplies and everything, but I don't care.
I may be shining example of the difference it can make when a kid has all the supplies they need.
I, you know, in the recent years found out I had, you know, attention deficit disorder in some of this,
and I did not realize how hard it was for me to focus when I was in school.
But one of the bigger distractions for me when I first moved out here was,
how come everybody's got glue sticks and I don't?
And it sets out so silly as an adult and into other adults out there.
Oh, come on, how distracted were you really by that? I was.
I felt like I, man, I already stood out. I already, I didn't have, I mean,
there was no, you know, fitting in around here for me.
And then when it came to not having the same supplies as all the other kids
and, oh, we got to make a diorama and I don't have the glue and I got to wait for somebody to hopefully give me glue.
And I'm behind, except, and this is one example of this.
This is every class that this is happening and every, every, you know,
subject that this is happening in grade school.
That's grade school.
And I went through that all through my whole school year.
From every single year of school I was in, I did not have the supplies I needed or any of those things.
And my parents worked their tails off.
Both my parents worked 40 hour week jobs.
Both of them were trying to supply. They had three kids.
And my brother and sister needed supplies. I mean, somebody had to take the short end.
That shouldn't happen to any kid in this country, any kid.
And when it does, it falls on all of us adults.
And so if you can help out, that's the little, you know, that little impact you make.
If it's one kid you make a difference in, that's a brighter future.
That's a better America. That's a better country.
It is. It's a great opportunity to get involved.
There is a list of most needed items on our website, www.swac.org.
I also will say if you have a need for your child to receive school supplies,
you also register on the website or you can call 211 to get registered.
And yes, I understand we're talking about next school year and this school year isn't done.
But it just seems like once summer hits, you know, like people, you just, life gets chaotic in a good way.
So that's why we open it up. The registration opens up starting in May because then you can just get it off your plate.
Good.
Go to www.swac.org to find out more.
Be sure to follow the United Way on social media as well.
Share their posts and keep up to date and all the great things they're doing there.
We'll wrap up our show talking about some other stuff happening at your United Way.
But before we wrap up this opening monologue, Terry, let's give away some tickets.
All right, let's do it.
Let's do it.
Every Friday listeners are going to have a chance to win a four pack of brewer tickets to an upcoming set of games
throughout the civic media talking network.
And we appreciate the Milwaukee Brewers giving up being great partners with us and teaming up with us and us teaming up with them
and all of that. It's been a lot of fun.
You got a civic media panty, right?
All right, you got it all set ready to go.
Text us the keyword Friday.
Friday.
Yeah, Friday texted to us everybody and get in on this chance to win tickets to Wednesday, May 21st game against Baltimore.
Ooh, that should be a good one.
One of the things I love about summer is a weekday baseball games.
It feels like you get a weekend day in the mix.
It kind of feels like you're getting away with something.
Like if you can coordinate it to go, you know, it's like, oh, I'm going to do a baseball game.
So yeah, that's next Wednesday.
Yeah, get tickets for that by just texting us the keyword Friday, everybody.
And thank you so much to everybody who plays along with these things.
We love having our local audience represent us so well in this area.
And you guys blowing up that text like like I see you're doing right now.
Friday, F-R-I-D-A-Y.
Text it to us everybody and get in on the winning Terry.
Now I'll be back with the Elcafe birthday anniversary club on mornings at WFHR.

Enjoy some Elcafe. Big thank you to them.
Terry, I'm going to need a couple of one or two.
So I need a one or two.
Two.
All righty.
Another one or two.
One.
All right.
And one more.
One.
Just see what I did there.
Yeah, like what you did.
I like what you did there.
Yeah.
Got our qualifier so we can dive right in.
First up, we want to wish happy birthday to Amy Dale.
Happy birthday.
Enjoy your day, Amy.
Hope it's a good one for you.
I'm wishing that that's the days.
And our qualifier today, Jim Wilson.
Happy birthday, Jim.
Got a good name there, sir.
Have a great day.
Enjoy it, Mr. Wilson.
It's good to be with you.
So yourself.
I could help.
Enjoy your day, Jim.
Hope it's a good one for you.
We take a look at Saturday, May 17th.
Birthdays where we wish a happy birthday to Katie Thompson.
Happy birthday, Katie.
Enjoy the day.
And our qualifier for Saturday, May 17th, Emily Anders.
Happy birthday, Emily.
Just like those names.
Good names.
Enjoy your days, everybody.
And Emily, we encourage you to brag to all your friends, family, strangers that you are

And we wrap up with Sunday birthdays.
Wishing happy birthday on Sunday to Amber Collins.
Happy birthday, Amber.
And a very happy birthday to Wilson Jones, our qualifier.
Happy birthday.
Big happy birthdays to everybody out there selling all birthdays today.
No anniversaries today.
Interesting.
Wishing you all a great birthday anniversary that's celebrating out there.
We appreciate everybody that got these to us.
And keep in mind, we'll take these all show along, everybody.
You got the whole show to get us your birthdays and anniversaries.
Keep them coming.
Let's see who you share your days with for today.
Christine, Kristen Malanado is 33.
She is one of the lead singers for Pentatonix.
I'm pretty big.
I like them.
I like them.
Yeah, they're good.
They're good.
Although I think it's a Christmas go-to for me.
You know what I mean?
Like that's where I tend to.
I don't know that I think of pulling them up at other times.
Yeah, I don't know.
I hear them other times.
But yeah, I'm 100% with it.
Let's see here.
Tracy Gold is 56.
No way.
She was Carol Seever on growing pains.
And yeah, 56.
That's crazy.
I didn't know she was that much older than me.
I didn't.
Wow.
That's interesting.
Miss Janet, different nasty.
Janet Jackson is 59.
Oh, one of the greatest entertainers I've ever seen.
She's only 59.
Now that is wild to me.
I would never guess that she's in her 50s.
And I hope that does not sound bad or anything.
I do not want to upset Miss Janet Jackson.
No, I guess I never thought of her growing up in the 80s and stuff.
I never thought of her as being in the same decade within 10 years of me.
I don't know.
Oh, no, I agree.
I agree.
Same thing here.
Long before I enjoyed her music, though, I enjoyed her on good times as an actress and a very good actor.
And just an incredible musician.
I've said this many times and I will continue to say it.
I may be the only one that does the most talented member of that family.
By far and away to me, the most talented member of that family.
Really?
Not Michael.
Not Tito.
Not Randy.
No, not even Michael.
I wasn't even going there.
No, I like Michael Jackson.
I really don't mean it as a disrespect to Michael Jackson.
I truly don't.
The king of pop.
You know, I certainly respect his career.
I just feel like when I look at their bodies of work, her's just stands out so much to me.
I can just considering the dips in her career and the comebacks and some of those things.
wardrobe malfunctions.
Yeah, it's interesting how she took the heat for that and Justin Timberlake didn't.
Wow.
Chris Novicellic is 60, one of the three members of Nirvana.
And him and Dave Girl played together recently too.
That was kind of cool.
No, that's neat.
Deborah Winger is 70.
That great actress, Urban Cowboy, Officer and a Gentleman, Terms of Endearment.
Deborah Winger had a three movie run or run there in the early 80s.
Like very few have had in their whole careers.
Just looking at Urban Cowboy and Officer and a Gentleman.
Those movies are not the same without her.
The great actors in those movies.
But she, to me, is part of what makes those movies.
Her performance is especially Urban Cowboy.
Which was not a movie that is a little kid that I, especially as a city boy, thought that I would love.
But I really got into that movie as a kid.
It was a whole world I'd never heard of without everything.
Her performance has always stood out to me about it.
I really like her work.
Oh, one of the best bonds.
Pierce Bronson is 72 today.
James Bond, Remington Steel, so many great actors.
So many great roles.
I like him.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I like Pierce Bronson.
And Henry Fonda would have been celebrating a birthday today as we look at people no longer with us.
Born in 1905, PS3, 1922.
Father of Jane and Peter Fonda.
One best actor, a best actor, Oscar for Angold and Pond.
More on that later.
And Liberace.
Oh, would have been celebrating a birthday today.
Liberace is, do I have this right to see Wisconsin's own?
I think so.
Yeah.
Yeah, I want to say, I believe he was from Wisconsin.
I got a double check on that.
I apologize if I have that wrong.
But I could swear that he's a Wisconsinite.
I feel like that's, I feel like I should know that actually.
Let's see here.
West Dallas, Wisconsin.
Yeah, I was thinking, yes.
Yep.
West Dallas, Wisconsin.
I thought so.
I wanted to talk about a career.
Yeah.
Famous.
Taking a look at some birthdays for a Saturday.
Real quick look.
Let's see here.
Boy.
Josh Holm is 52, founder and lead singer and songwriter for Queens of the Stone Age.
I've seen him perform a bunch.
He's amazing.
Trent Rezner is 60 from Nineage Nails and Oscar winner and all that.
One of my favorite creatives of all time, Trent Rezner.
I've seen both of them actually live on the same show.
I saw Queens of the Stone Age open for 90s nails.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
I didn't.
I seem to forget every year that they have a birthday on the same day.
So that's interesting.
Craig Ferguson also celebrating birthday, 63 on Saturday.
And Anya is 64 on Saturday.
So Anya, Josh, Holm and Trent Rezner all share a birthday.
That's interesting.
I should do like a little jam set.
They definitely should.
That'd be awesome.
Sugar Ray Letter is going to be 69 on Saturday.
Olympic Gold Medal and World Championship
at four different weight classes.
It has underrated the Sugar Ray's career in boxing lore.
Just like one of the kings of the 80s.
And one of my favorite boxers to watch as a kid.
And part of the reason why I'm such a homer about USA Olympics
and sports and everything is because guys like him
and get to see them just mop the floor at level after level.
I don't know that people understand how difficult it can be for boxers.
In particular, I only know about boxing.
I don't know about MMA and all that.
But to move weight classes.
And the difference of the Sugar Ray in a medium weight class
moving up just five pounds or 10 pounds.
And the gigantic monsters he would be fighting.
Yeah, because of the span of that weight class, right?
Like you could be five pounds from the top versus from the bottom.
And he hung and beat every one of them.
Just an incredible boxer.
Smart hands.
And wrapping up with Sunday birthdays.
Jack Johnson is 50.
I didn't realize he was that old.
Flake better together.
Upside down.
No, it is not.
No, it is not.
You're absolutely right.
No, it is not as I sit here at 48.
You're absolutely right.
A lot of good songs from him.
I think maybe the funniest person on the planet.
Tina Fey is 55 on Sunday.
God, I love Tina Fey.
Just hilarious writer, creative.
And it's at the night we're talking about this over on the Sunrise Show
and celebrating his birthday.
This Sunday, the King of Country, Mr. George Strait.
He's got a little party.
Sixty number ones.
The most number ones in the history of music.
Music.
Not country music.
Not popular music.
Music.
Like I was a little hesitant, I'll admit.
And I've been not as with the audience about this on both networks.
I'm relearning and learning some more and more about country in the last three years doing the Sunrise Show.
I knew who George Strait was.
I had a lot of respect for him.
And I even liked a song or two of his.
But did not understand because of how quietly he's done this.
I understand if you know the music of your, you know, you eat, sleep, and breathe country music.
No, George Strait's career and everything.
But I'm talking about like on Garth Brooks level of like the fame and all this.
Like we all understand well, Garth Brooks is one of the biggest artists of all time and stuff.
I would think it almost be reverse in some ways where it will be George Strait that is talked about.
And just it's every like every household in America knows that George Strait is the biggest artist of all time.
But it's not.
And so I'm making up for lost time here.
And I'm going to continue to do that the rest of my music life.
And just to tip my cowboy hat to Mr. George Strait and the king of music, you could say even a little little kick of country music.
Mr. October is 79 on Sunday, Reggie Jackson.
One of the greatest hitters of all time.
And one of the tougher but more rewarding interviews I've heard from a lot of sports writers over the years.
And that is going to wrap up our Sunday weekend birthdays.
But again, to everybody out there celebrating Happy Birthday.
Happy anniversary to all of you.
Can't think of a better way to celebrate than with our friends at El Café.
Get on over there today or anytime this weekend, everybody.
221 Market Avenue in beautiful Port Edwards.
Get into our news, sports and partner break.
When Terry and I come back, we're handing out free callers.
We're giving out free calls.
Everybody, all you got to do is be able to guess our theme song.
You do have to guess that.
It's coming up.
Oh, work.
A little bit, a little bit.
I might even have to push the button to call in and all that.
So there is a little word behind it, but a boy is it worth it for free callers.
Coming up on Mornings at WFHR.
Lights, camera, action.
It is time to make somebody a star of the day with our friends from the Wisconsin Rapids callers.
What Terry and I are about to do is play a famous TV theme song.
If you know it and you have won anything in 30 days, call up or hit us up through the Civic Media app.
You can call 715-424-2600 or just a touch or two away on that app.
And boom, just like that, you win a kid and adult meal from our great friends at the Wisconsin Rapids callers.
Big shout out to them wherever you got a callers, you got one putting into their community.
That sounds great.
And you know what?
I really like their lemon ice and it's back.
Yes.
We need to spread the word about that because you're not alone there, apparently.
There's people in this building that really love that stuff.
I keep hearing about it.
I got to try it because it's been talked a lot this past couple of years.
I like it with raspberries.
Get ready to call up and let us know.
Everybody, what is this TV theme song when you sell some free callers?
Show me that smile.
Show me that smile.
Don't wish to know.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, I was wondering.
I mean, someone on there has a birthday.
Yep.
Yep.
Just got done giving you a tease, everybody, with one of the birthdays.
We are celebrating in our celebrity birthdays.
Each other.
We got the last minute.
Okay.
Okay, we got to call up.
Oh, here we go.
Here we go.
Let's see what we got here.
If we got ourselves a winner, good morning.
What's your answer?
Back to life?
Ooh.
Oh.
It's easy to know a person.
No, no, no.
No, it's a show.
It was crazy.
Yes, yes.
I'm sorry.
Yes, it is her.
I'll give you a second chance at that.
Do you want to take another chance?
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'll give someone else a chance.
Excuse me.
I'm sorry.
I'll give someone else a chance.
That's okay.
I appreciate you trying.
Thank you.
Feel free to call back if you want to.
That's all right, too.
We'll keep the phone lines open here.
715-424-2600.
I thought this way.
I actually have a second one lined up.
No way you did.
Just because I thought I was wondering.
I didn't know all this.
That's kind of low-hanging fruit.
Two words.
People.
Two words.
Yep.
Two words.
Let's see if we got them.
Good morning.
What's your answer?
I didn't hear what the answer was.
It was a text of life.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Keep trying.
Oh, I like this.
Now I'm having fun with this.
You better keep that back up.
Oh, here comes another part.
All right.
And good morning.
What's your answer?
Oh, so close.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Keep trying.
Hello.
Oh, you got a sign on the back.
What's your answer?
Hello.
Hello.
Now, dad, if that was you, you can't win.
I've told you this for years.
I don't know if that was my father.
It's not very nice.
It might have been my dad there.
Wow.
This is okay.
Let's try this one more time.
Let's see here.
Good morning.
What's your answer?
Growing pain.
Yeah.
Nice job.
Let's make this official here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There we go.
You're having a few growing pains.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Definitely.
It's actually done.
It's obviously done by you.
Who do I have on the phone with us?
Gary.
Gary.
Thank you so much for listening and calling it.
Gary, what town are you calling us from?
Well, I'm honored by Lake Wasitra.
Oh, God.
That sounds awesome.
Gary.
That sounds really nice right now.
Especially a day like this.
Did you know the theme song Gary?
You're taking a chance.
Did you watch the show?
Well, I thought it was initially.
And then you mentioned about the birthday thing.
And I'm thinking, I don't remember.
But you did say Tracy Gold.
Yes.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's great.
Thanks, Gary.
We appreciate it.
We appreciate you playing along.
You're our newest star of the day.
Just one yourself, some callvers.
Hang on the line.
You're going to get a little information from you off air.
But thanks a lot for calling it, Gary.
Okay.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We'll talk to Gary more in just a second.
Why did I choose this one?
Well, of course, Tracy Gold's birthday.
She's 56 today.
Congratulations to her.
But also, it was back on this day a couple weeks ago that on this day, all three of these
things happened.
In 1991, the dinosaurs, dinosaurs at TV show premiered on ABC.
Everybody remembers that one for that time.
No.
Oh, you will if you see it.
In 92, growing pains, final episode on ABC aired.
I do remember there when they ended.
Yeah.
I just thought that was a fun one between Tracy Gold's birthday, which I don't know if
that was weird for her to have her birthday right around when the show was ended.
Yeah, that would, you know, it seemed a little weird.
My next hint, of course, or clue was going to be Kurt Cameron.
Yeah, it had to be.
I was waiting for it.
I actually thought that that's where you were going to go first.
I thought you did a good job there.
And you guys did a good job out there.
Thank you for all the calls right there, everybody.
That was a lot of fun.
We don't get that very often on these.
They're usually, to be honest, I usually try to make it really easy.
But I wasn't sure about this one.
I wasn't sure, but you guys came through.
Nice work.
We're going to talk to Gary, get his information.
I'll make sure my agent gets it because he is our newest star of the day.
Keep listening every Friday for another opportunity to win some free callvers.
From our Wisconsin Rapids callvers, big shout out to them.
And all the callvers out there up and down the state.
We appreciate you.
Terry, now I'll be back more of show.
Welcome back, everybody.
It's about time.
Morning show here at WFHR.
14 years later.
Weekly grown radio.
He's a giggly.
You're right, it has been a while.
We've been waiting to do this.
I'm like right back, like a 12 year old in the summer.
14, 12, 13, 14.
There are certain songs that just do it to you.
I don't know what it is, but Electric Avenue.
I hear that song and it immediately does that to me.
Like there's certain songs that didn't bring you right back.
We used to camp there when I was a kid in the summer.
Like right there.
Mark.
Awesome.
Thank you, Seth.
I know James didn't do that.
Nope, nope, that's all Seth.
Nicely done by Seth.
We appreciate your bad great work with some players as always.
Our head of production around here.
I can, I can actually do that.
Yeah, I can play around again.
I can do that.
Because I'll be gone the next time I come.
Absolutely.
I hope it shows how much we appreciate you.
Terry also sitting in with us as you have for many years out here
and putting up with me in all my fun topics.
Like this one right here.
What are the chances you have a, quote, perfect dog?
If you have a dog in your life, you already know the answer 100%.
But let's look at what they say at this study out of Texas A&M.
What are those Aggies think?
Well, a study at Texas A&M found over 99% of dogs in the U.S.
have behavioral problems.
They collected data from more than 43,000 dogs of various breeds,
ages, sizes, and locations.
The dogs were analyzed based on stuff like aggression,
separation, and attachment issues, fear and anxiety.
And, you know, if they were trained or not, body trained or not.
In the end, there's only about 1% chance you have a perfect dog.
99.12% of dogs showed at least one behavioral-rated moderate,
a moderately serious or semi-series.
Or at least two problems of moderate to serious intensity.
Out of that list that we just gave you.
Separation and attachment behaviors were the most common.
Those things include restlessness, pacing, following people around the house,
sitting close to them, escape attempts, or barking,
and chewing items when left alone.
This is something that happens when you domesticate an animal, though.
So I feel like you can't be expecting any.
It's again, it brings me back to you.
You can't expect a dog nut to bark.
That's what they do.
How much to just the humans feed into this, right?
Like, I mean...
You're so right about this.
It's still a pet, right?
I will say we have a little kind of rambunctious dog.
You know, he's a kind of a stinker that we have right now.
But our dog before this one, he was in that 1%.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, like, sometimes you just...
It made me for a long time saying no more dogs.
No, because we don't never compare to that.
But, you know, I got...
I don't know.
I'll vote it.
I think other people, though, have been in a very similar place
where you are with that.
I know my parents were, and had not been for a Beth over at the old
Humane Society director over there reaching out to my parents with Sam.
I don't think that would have ever happened.
I don't know, actually, if they'd even have a dog by now.
All these years later, they loved Zeppelin,
and the way he was such a family dog and such a good dog.
But they all have good...
You know what I mean?
Like, even Rex being a stinker now, like, I still...
I mean, he's a great addition to the family.
Yeah.
And I...
Much like human beings, I feel like the...
Their imperfections are part of what we love about them.
Minor behavioral problems may seem relatively harmless,
but experts say it's important to work with your vet
to appreciate what might be going on within your dog's mind
and recognize when special care is required.
Because animals don't think like humans.
And we have to remind ourselves of this all the time.
You know, though, I'm sorry.
Like, I'm not paying for dog therapy.
I mean, if there's something physically wrong with the dog,
absolutely, but I am not taking my dog to the vet to assess their...
Mental health.
I think for one thing, I think even if you want to do this,
very few households probably can't.
You know, we've learned this through the ALS report
and many other things.
And even if you want to...
But one thing I will say, I think everybody can pay attention
to that stuff.
Oh, yeah.
And I have a hard time believing anybody that owns an animal
doesn't already do that.
Maybe they don't, you know, bring in what's his name?
The seasoned Malangai or whatever.
The dog whisperer guy.
Yeah.
Maybe they don't do that.
Maybe they're on homework or even if not that,
just paying attention to your animal.
I think people do care.
Take him out for a nice long walk.
Wear him out.
Yes.
They won't chew on as much stuff.
They probably won't be sad because they're outside.
You know, I mean, there's some things that are just,
in my opinion, kind of more common sense, right?
Yes.
And I think with that, I think because of it,
when you get, again, down to the way that what we know of,
the way animals think.
And since we're talking about dogs, just dogs in particular,
dogs don't think about their 401k.
Dogs aren't thinking about tomorrow.
They're just about today.
Or what to make for supper.
Yes.
Yes.
Now, that also means, though, when it does seem like your dog is sad,
there is no poker face for a dog.
Unless they're on that painting.
Yes, that's a whole different story.
Those dogs are very different, very good poker players,
by the way.
One of them had a really good hand.
No, so putting our emotions and our feelings and our anxieties
on an animal, all it does is give them anxiety.
They don't understand.
Don't deflect.
Yes.
Use them to change your mood.
Don't project your mood onto them.
It's a great way to put that.
And I hope I'm sounding like I'm preaching here,
because I need to do that myself.
Praise.
I need to take a little of that medicine myself.
I think that we all do that.
I know when I've gotten better about it as I've been around dogs more,
but I didn't grow up with animals.
So when I first started working at shelters, it was rough.
Every animal I wanted to take home.
Every animal I wanted to take care of and everything.
I couldn't help it.
Thank you for catching that.
Okay.
But, you know, I think it's just like, right,
don't expect your kids to be perfect.
Don't expect your pets to be perfect.
Like, it's, they just are who they are.
They have a personality on purpose.
I'm not sure there's anything in life we can really expect that from.
And I don't think we should.
I don't, I think that's life.
One of the things I think, one of the earliest lessons
I think you learned in life is, hey, things are not perfect.
You know, you got to roll with it.
You got to just roll with it.
I do think it's funny, though, how they're saying 99% of dogs.
Yeah.
Like, there's no window, right?
Like, there's no window, right?
Like, there's no window.
Yeah.
I mean, deal with it.
Texas A&M dot org.
I think I did say that you can find the complete article there, everybody.
If you'd like to, let's take a look at a sunblock.
Another thing that I have no idea what I'm talking about, Terry.
A little bit more of that in this segment here.
A study at Florida Atlantic University found you're more likely to get a sunburn
when you've been drinking and for obvious reasons.
They talked to a bunch of people who have recently been burned
and around one in five said alcohol was a factor.
22% admitted that they'd had a few drinks.
It's because you're less likely to apply sunscreen when you're tipsy,
more likely to misjudge how long you've been in the sun,
and potentially more likely to pass out in the sun.
Okay, so this really has nothing to do with sunscreen.
Nope.
This is all user error.
Yes, yes.
Okay, I was like, why is there some kind of chemical change to...
You know what I mean?
Like, what do you put it out?
Sure, sure.
Yep.
If you've over-indulged and you don't reapply or apply sunscreen,
you likely will get burned.
A few more times you need to remember,
11% said that they were working outside when they got sunburned,
10% when swimming, and 7% when exercising.
But the top time to pay attention is when you're doing more than one thing.
43% said that they were multitasking when it happened.
And that seems to be the most guilty party, if you will, the multitasking.
And especially here in the Midwest where we get, you know,
six to seven minutes of summer.
No, I'm kidding.
Six to seven months or whatever it is of summer,
even less than that really when you...
If you're just looking at a summer fall and some of that.
So you want to get out there, you want to experience things,
get all the time you can in, just like we were talking about with animals.
You know, you want to get our walks and what to get our time out there.
It's understandable to multitask everything.
Yeah, and I think people just forget to reapply.
One of the things that I...
Is that a timer?
Yes, we had Stephen and Katrina from family and after-foods.
And yesterday, good morning to them.
I encourage you to check out that rapids report everybody at www.fature.com.
One of the things we talked about was this in Sunblock.
And I was very honest with them and I had been before.
Growing up, it was not a thing in my house.
Well...
Nobody needed it in my house.
No, as we see.
We just never talked about it.
Your skin tone is...
You know what I mean?
I'm pretty fair.
Like I'm going to burn literally.
If I didn't have sunscreen on, I would literally burn today.
That's not right.
I feel free for one.
I just does what I...
But yeah, I know.
My best friend growing up was the same way.
And I never heard once complain about it.
I'm sure you just roll with it.
But two people like myself and of different pigment and everything
were really late to the party on this one.
And I've talked to a lot of people who have much darker skin than I do about this.
Where it's been recommended for good 10 years now if not longer.
It doesn't matter what pigment you got.
You should be putting some Sunblock on.
And I feel like learning this in my 40s.
I'm like, wait a minute here.
I feel like I should have been doing this the whole time.
Or obviously I should have been doing this the whole time.
So I'm very late to this stuff.
And could they make...
Okay, to me.
Again, coming into this party late.
I don't feel like they could make this more confusing.
They got the numbers like a 15,000 block or 1,400 block or whatever it is.
And I'm just...
Tell me what I need.
Please.
I want a picture of my skin tone.
You probably need like eight.
Just to keep the burn away.
You can still soak up the sun with the olive tone.
One of my daughters is like that.
She just absorbs the sun.
And I'm like, but just don't get burned.
You don't have to wear 50 sunblock.
But we're just put on the 8 or the 12 or 15 so that you just don't get burned first.
Why damage your skin?
Especially when you're 18.
You know?
A long time to wear that face.
I have no interest in looking like I'm wearing leather.
No, that's just a skin.
Like I don't...
That's what happens with tallions.
That's what happens to us.
I'm not happy to that happy.
I want to take care of my skin.
I do want to mention as well that family and natural food has some really cool
you in different ways of protecting yourself with the sun and everything.
I encourage you to check out that interview and check things out over there.
Because they got some cool stuff.
And for those out there, I'd love to hear from you guys on this topic.
Also one of them mentioned this one Terry again.
Another topic I know nothing about Crocs.
But you've got a pair or two right?
I have a pair of Crocs.
So some guy in Australia is going viral after washing his Crocs in the dishwasher.
It's a hack that's been circulating online since about 2021.
So it's not a new idea.
But this video blew up because he did it with a bunch of dishes in there.
We're talking knives, forks and all that.
I cannot prove this, but I guarantee you this man is single.
I guarantee that.
I feel very confident about that.
That he's in deep trouble right now.
Okay, so I get that.
I've heard that, you know, throwing the dishwasher.
But why?
Why not put him in the wash machine?
Oh, yeah.
That seems more to me more.
I guess they don't get agitated in the dishwasher.
Yeah, yeah.
Potential.
Here's the thing.
Crocs for me are not a fashion statement.
And here's when I wear mine.
This morning, I put them on when I took the dog out, checked to see what plants needed to be watered
and walked across my wet yard, right?
And then I switched into my work shoes.
So for me, they are, I guess, outside working shoes.
I'm not running around.
Now, one of my daughters, especially during their sports seasons, they always wore them.
Because, right, like you just kick them off, put on your whatever, your court shoes or whatever,
and then put the cracks back on.
So, I mean, I don't know.
We do have enough cracks in our house, though.
We could do a whole dishwasher load.
I live one pair.
But others have them.
But what I mean with the dishes is he just the moron.
Is this the vet ain't right story for today?
I guess it is definitely the vetting rights of one of them, at least.
It's early in the show, so there might be other ones that I do, but this one for sure.
One other tip for this, dude, if you have the lined cracks, you probably don't want to put those through the dishwasher.
You wouldn't have lined.
Like they have like fabric lining, like fuzzy lining.
Oh, yeah, definitely not.
His cracks came out spotless, so it does work.
But on top of the hygiene thing, there's another reason you might not want to do it.
He said his cracks shrunk a little bit from the heat.
Well, dishwashers get pretty hot.
Yeah, I bet.
It's not clear if it was hot water, the heating drying or whatever it did it.
But most dishwashers don't have a setting for cold water.
Or a setting for cracks.
Right.
Once you die like the next time you go dishwasher shopping, there's a crock button.
I don't know if it's common to everybody else, but just accidentally looking at modern refrigerators.
Holy cow.
Oh, yeah.
There's a lot of weird stuff.
I remember back in the day where it was a big deal if it kicked out ice.
Oh, my God, you got a really fancy refrigerator and it kicks out ice.
But I'm just not inclined to, you know, like those refrigerators that have like the screen on it.
To me, it's just like one more thing to go wrong.
Yes.
You know, so it's like, oh, well, let's see.
The electronic board on my refrigerator went out.
Well, that's great.
Don't you just wanted to keep food cold?
One thing I did see that I kind of liked, but I've never lived with it.
So I guess I don't know how much I like.
I kind of like the clear refrigerator.
I kind of thought that was cool, but I don't know.
I'm not sure how I feel about that.
But you can also, they have them now with a camera inside.
So like I'm at the grocery store.
Oh, wow.
So I can pull it up on my phone to see like, is there milk?
Yeah.
Wow.
Wow.
It's, ah.
Oh, it's too much.
And it's, and I feel like it's lazy.
Like make your list before you leave.
But at the same time, I mean, I'm not saying I've never called home and said, can you tell me if this is in the pantry?
You know, like if I'm at the grocery store, I don't know.
Modern convenience, I guess.
It seems kind of cool.
The whole clear refrigerator sounds cool for families.
As somebody lives on their own, not as cool.
Well, and it looks a little sad.
I don't know.
I think it's a little, um, it'd be weird for guests.
You know what I mean?
Like, like I entertain, I like people in my kitchen.
So I guess if I had like a butler's pantry where no one's out of the fridge.
Sure.
That, that, that, that maybe.
Ah, that's, that's an interesting one.
Do not put your cracks in the dishwasher with dishes.
I mean, am I, am I here?
Couldn't you just take a hose to them?
Like, like, I'm talking, like, with yours.
Yeah.
Or, I mean, the gardens.
Yeah, these are black ones, but yes.
Stick a hose to it.
Or just stick your foot underneath the faucet.
Yeah.
Or, um, I don't know.
My daughter had some yellow ones and they started to get looking kind of.
I just use a little scrub brush on them.
Yeah, it really wasn't.
I don't know.
I rather do outside.
I don't want all that crap going down my regular, like my dishwasher drain.
You can tell it's as soon as it's nice outside because I'm usually barefoot.
I would have no problem putting them in the dishwasher.
Or in the, in the wash machine, though.
In my defense, I have like clown shoes for feet.
I have like 12s.
So wherever I walk, I mean, I'm pretty safe usually.
I'm walking on anything except Legos.
That one, that one.
I walk on a stone.
Oh, that doesn't feel good.
But a Lego.
Like a tiny Lego piece.
I'll feel that.
Like the one.
Just a little single Lego.
My foot will find it.
Yes.
Our friends at the Wood County Parks and Forestry Department want you to know that they are announcing
their opening of four miles of new ATV-UTV trail on Wood County Forest.
They're expecting Peterson Road to Hay Creek Road in the town of Hiles.
The new trail will open for the season 7am Thursday, May 15th.
So it's already open.
Yes, right.
Yeah, open risk today.
Please use caution while riding on trails.
Riders are reminded to stay on the designated trails.
Obey all signs and to please ride responsibly.
As Sheriff Becker and many will let you remind you.
So many of the people that are living next to these trails.
You know, respect their land.
You would want to respect yours.
And you can find out more by going to woodcountywi.gov.
Woodcountywi.gov.
Have fun out there on those trails, everybody.
Spread the love of this activity, these hobbies.
It's a big part of our state, a big part of the economy of our state.
And that's a darn.
We got nobody's got trails in pass like we do in here in Wisconsin.
Yeah, it's awesome.
Be safe and be respectful.
Have fun out there, everybody.
I cannot think of a today.
This seems like a great opening weekend for this too.
Nicely timed by the Parks and Forestry Department.
It's a good way to do it.
That's some thinkers over there.
Thank you.
Again, find out more at woodcountywi.gov.
And speaking of them, just a reminder to everybody.
And I imagine a 99% of our audience knows this or not.
But keep in mind, we've got the new Woodcounty Sierra Park opening
and going on over there and everything.
I'm very excited about the possibilities of that.
And what could happen for our community with that?
It just reminded me you brought that up earlier and everything.
And it reminded me of, oh, yeah, we got that.
That's a great resource.
We always camp there when we were kids.
I'm curious.
I've never been there.
So I'm curious that you guys have driven past it a billion times.
I've never been in there.
So I'm looking forward to it.
We're looking forward to the second hour of mornings here at WFHR.
This is locally grown radio.
