Thank You For Thinking of Me (Hour 2)

Mornings with WFHR · Fri Feb 28, 2025

Good morning, Wisconsin.

Morning, world.

It's a new day.

Makes for kicking it off with us at WFHR.

Got your hosts, James here.

I am joined by CEO of your United Way of South Winam's counties, Terry Johns.

Good morning.

The band is back together.

We're out to hang out with you and get you ready for your weekend.

We're going to have some fun while we're at it.

We got good stories on the way for you.

Terry and I are going to be getting into a hack that could help you decide what to do this weekend.

I think we got time for this one.

The top 10 go to responses for disliked gifts.

Yeah, that sounds fun.

That could be an interesting one.

Yeah, that should be fun.

We dive into entertainment news to kick things off.

We'll get into our schedule a little bit more in just a bit.

But we will not be having our original Sunday episodes for you this Sunday

because we're going to be having Wisconsin men's hockey.

We're looking forward to covering that for you as always.

Wisconsin is a big game actually taking on the US national team development program.

So that's a really good opportunity for all these players to be seen by scouts

that they may not be seen by otherwise.

It's an important game.

We're looking forward to having that for you.

We may have like the tail end of an unlabeled to wrap up your Sunday night,

but I won't be having a new episode.

But Seth and I were able to record a new episode of Director's Cut,

Director's Playhouse last night,

yesterday afternoon with Pete Schwabba.

We had Pete Schwabba from Night Light,

where you can catch tonight and every Monday through Friday.

And it was great having Pete on.

I just want to send a shout out to him and thank him for joining Seth and I.

It was a great conversation.

Let's dive into some other great entertainment news.

Zendaya will voice Shrek's daughter Felicia in Shrek 5.

Shrek 5.

Yeah, there's a new one coming.

She's seen in the new teaser alongside aged Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey.

The full story now that she'll be joined by Mike Myers,

Cameron Diaz in any Murphy.

All the originals are coming back.

So I think right away you hear that and I'd like,

okay, well, maybe this is all right.

Not much else is known about the plot yet,

but it does look like quite a bit of a time has passed since 2010's Shrek forever after.

Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey look like they've aged a little bit.

And that would make sense.

They've got a teenage daughter.

In case you forgot, Shrek and Fiona had triplets,

a girl named Felicia and two boys.

Up until now they've only appeared on screen as babies.

Shrek 5 will hit theaters in Christmas of 2026.

I mean, I don't know if I'll hit the theater for it,

but I do like the Shrek movies.

I don't mind them at all, but to be honest with you,

I only know can think of like the first two.

Maybe I saw the third one.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't remember.

I know my dad would know.

My dad loves these movies.

My dad would definitely be able to tell you.

I thought they were fun movies though.

Then it's just a great cast.

She's a great actor too, so that's a good addition for them.

And Katie Perry is not been really having a very good time

in the last five or 10 years or whatever

with her career considering where it was going.

She's been trained to do a lot of different things

to kind of counter this.

The music thing isn't working very well for her,

so she's been doing American Idol or The Voice or these things.

She's gotten some good run doing some of that stuff.

Well, this is a bit of a stretch,

but it's something different for Katie Perry

is going to outer space, like really going to outer space.

She has joined an all-female crew on board,

one of Jeff Bezos' blue origin space flights.

So she's only technically going to space

because they just kind of like go into the app.

Okay.

The exact definition of technically going to space

is what these billionaires are doing.

So like you just break into space and then you come back down.

Yeah, so you can tell everybody you went to space.

Yeah, basically.

You're not orbiting anything.

Yeah, yeah.

You're not literally doing anything.

Like you're just going up and down.

Although.

It's more than you and I have to.

Sure, absolutely.

But I also think you can.

Yeah, you're not going to the moon.

Yeah.

Like you go into the moon, then we'll talk.

Yeah.

That's going to space.

Like going to the actual atmosphere and everything.

I mean, I'd much rather spend, but I'd have more fun.

I feel like on a Ferris wheel.

Yeah.

I feel like that would be more fun.

I think you'd rather go to the islands, right?

Yes.

Absolutely.

She'll be joined by Gail King, along with Bezos's fiance,

of course, Lord Sanchez, and three other women,

an aerospace engineer, a civil rights activist,

and a filmmaker.

Lauren reportedly bought the mission together.

The launch is tentatively scheduled for this spring.

She says, quote, I don't really need a team of explorers

on a mission that will challenge their perspectives

of Earth and power them to share their own stories,

and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come.

Katie posted a picture of the crew and said,

quote, I am honored to him be among this device group

of celestial sisters.

So I do think that it's noteworthy.

Will Shakespeare, William Shatner, Matt,

could not mix those names up or...

At least they sounded a little alike.

They did.

Back in 2021, William Shatner was the oldest person

ever to reach the outer atmosphere there.

And he did have quite the impact from it.

And I really did enjoy hearing him talk about it.

To be fair.

But I have a very hard time believing

that Katie Perry is going to get off of that thing,

and I'm going to want to...

What's Katie Perry thinking?

Like, I don't know.

I don't know.

It could be wrong, and I will eat my words if I am.

I will wholeheartedly admit it.

But I feel like if you really want...

This is my...

And this is coming from being raised by a feminist.

I will, again, own that.

I am a big believer in things that support women,

empower women, and it's women supporting women.

And we need more of that in society.

One of my reasons that I like power the purse,

I've talked to my mom about this,

and you and I have talked about this, Terry,

is all of the cool things that are going on with that event

is great.

It's the socializing.

It's the networking that can exist and happen.

And just the empowerment that can come from that.

And empowering each other is not always sitting there

and reading a Maya Angelou quote to one another.

Empowering can just be, hey, how's your day?

Hey, I can relate to something that only I can relate to

that nobody else can.

Something like that.

It should be more about the genuine connections

than about saying we're empowering each other.

And you know what I mean?

To me, that's just...

And I apologize.

I feel like I'm coming dangerously close to mansplating.

I think it's kind of funny.

Keep digging.

I think you were doing just fine.

But this feels like a...

They're doing it for a post.

Like a grab.

You know what I mean?

Yeah.

How about you grab some women teachers?

How about you grab some actual,

just real everyday human beings?

Or how about just do it because it's the good and right thing

to do, not for a reason.

You know what I mean?

But I've never really embraced that.

It's just pandering never works to me.

And I feel like even if it works for a little bit,

we see through it eventually.

And this just feels like pandering to me.

It really does.

But all the power to them for doing it

and the individuals involved.

You know, I'm speaking more of this directed edge of basals.

The individuals involved.

You get what you get from it.

You know?

Enjoy your trip.

Yeah, take the ride.

Would you do that if it was offered to you?

One of those.

I don't know if I would.

I don't know.

I don't know if I would.

I don't know.

I don't know if I would.

I don't know.

There's a couple of reasons why.

None of them are really rational.

So I will say that.

Yeah.

I don't know, honestly.

I guess I've never really given it thought.

It's never interested me enough to really dig into it.

So I would, you know, I don't know.

Again, if this was a trip to the moon,

I'd definitely do it.

100% I would do it.

But you know, to go into the outer atmosphere or whatever,

I don't know.

I don't know.

I want to go to the other places.

I want to go right here on this rock.

Yeah.

Looking at what's new on your small screen, big screen,

and your local theater stages coming up.

But real quickly, I do want to thank everybody

that has signed up for the WFHR newsletter.

I greatly appreciate all of you doing that every day,

every other day, if not.

I am getting updates on my phone and people signing up for that.

You can do it right now.

Go to wfhr.com.

Just got a couple of quick things to fill out.

And once you're done doing that,

you will get the WFHR newsletter every Thursday,

right in your email box.

It's your one stop shop for Central Wisconsin News.

We've got some of our best working on it.

Melissa is kind of our, I look at her as our executive producer

of it.

She worked so hard on this thing.

But we've got a lot of other great people working hard on it.

All of our locals are putting stories on there.

I shout out to all of them.

And I do want to send a real shout out to Michael Comer

and the work he's doing over there.

Just covering so many bases in sports.

Laura's got a great powerlifting thing,

a powerlifting article on there.

I encourage you to check out.

I've got to talk to a long time coach, Coach Mach.

It was great.

There's some other great articles from Terry Barr on there as well.

I encourage you to check that out yourself, everybody.

And you sign up for it just by going to wfhr.com.

And thank you everybody who has already signed up for the newsletter.

And a big thank you to this team working so hard to put

these kind of things out there.

I appreciate you guys.

New on your small screen this weekend.

Tonight at 7 o'clock on ABC 2020,

count down to the Oscars with Robin Roberts.

A lot of people enjoy that one.

She does good job with those.

A real time of Bill Marr tonight.

Cynthia Freeland, a Ram, a Ram manual,

and Farid Azakari on there.

And Max, the streaming premiere of The Lord of the Rings,

The War of Rahim.

That is going to be on there for you.

I'll be right there, starring Edie Falco,

is tonight on Peacock.

I don't know much about what that, what, I don't know much about that one.

But Edie Falco brings me in.

That's one of the best TV actors you'll ever see.

Like Lucille Ball level TV actress.

I love her work.

If she's in something, and she usually chooses really good work.

So I don't know, I'd be interested in that.

This weekend on Saturday, you've got, on Saturday live,

Shane Gillis hosting along with Tate McCray.

A lot of people like Shane Gillis.

He's done a very good job hosting on there.

And they seem to, they seem to work really well together.

That cast and him and the crew and everything.

So that is a big one this weekend.

And then, of course, on Sunday, ABC and Hulu

will have the Oscars Red Carpet Show.

And ABC and Hulu will also have the 97th annual Oscars hosted

by the best boss I ever had, Conan O'Brien.

Go ahead and check that out.

Everybody should be a good one.

Whether you care about the, this is one of the few times

I haven't been able to say this for a long time.

Whether you care about the awards or not,

Conan's going to give you a great show.

That man doesn't know how to do a bad job.

I swear, I'm a little biased about this one I'll admit.

But I know how hard he works.

It's very few people I can say this about.

I actually know how hard this guy works at these things.

I know how much it matters to him.

I've seen him go out of his way to fit in a writer's joke

that he didn't even come up with because he knew

how much it mattered to that person.

I know how hard he works to entertain his audiences.

His people that kind of follow his work and stuff.

Something like this, the biggest hosting thing he's ever done.

I have no doubt, I will put my name on it.

You are going to come in Monday and we're going to be talking

about his hosting gig.

He's going to do a great job at this.

I have no doubt in my mind he will.

So even if you don't care about the Oscars,

I think you're going to enjoy his MC work this weekend.

He's going to do a great job.

The Americas is also going to have a new episode on Sunday

on NBC and you can get it on peacock as well.

I want to thank Kevin for that one because my parents

are really enjoying that as his suggestion.

He's like, hey, Tom Hanks narrated this great show.

My mom and dad love that kind of stuff.

I got to catch some of the first episode and it was pretty good.

It was good.

In a preview of the upcoming season of American Idol

will be on ABC also on Sunday.

And a new episode of White Lotus.

Those that are watching that one.

And let's see here, new in your theaters.

Not a lot of big things coming out in movies.

Not big movies coming out this weekend.

In part, interestingly enough,

not wanting to compete with the Oscars.

Which I find kind of interesting.

In recent years.

Nobody cared.

Nobody cared.

Including Hollywood.

Yeah.

It's hilarious to me that the people that like you,

like a year from now you're hoping to be at the Oscars.

But you don't care if you like pull people away from it viewing wise.

That's kind of fun.

But that's changed in recent years.

Even before the whole Will Smith slap thing and everything.

The Oscars have actually been getting a little bit better ratings.

Not where you would like them to be if you're a producer of the Oscars.

But they have been a little bit better.

So the movies are a little bit limited release.

There's a riff rap movie of Bill Murray and Pete Davidson.

Ed Harris.

Jennifer Coolidge.

A little bit of a darker comedy.

And last breath.

PG-13 starring Woody Harrelson.

This one is based on a true story about deep-sea divers

who try to rescue one of their crew members

who's trapped hundreds of feet below the surface.

The trailer had me gasping.

Yeah, I agree.

It's an intense move.

I thought it was, yeah, almost overwhelmed.

Like I'm just watching them.

Like, are you kidding?

And as much as I love the...

I can't say this about many commercials.

But I love the Matthew Piccane,

Woody Harrel sick commercials.

I'm not even sure what they're selling.

But I just love those commercials.

What hour are they selling?

I'm not sure.

But I love those commercials.

It's some kind of food, right?

Yeah, and I love seeing these guys doing comedy.

Yeah, I think it is some food.

Yeah.

But Woody Harrelson,

it's great to see him every once in a while,

remind everybody, I'm a Thessbian.

I'm a darn good actor.

I've been nominated for Oscars.

I've come a long way since Woody on Cheers.

It's cool.

This move.

And I think it's noteworthy too with these actors.

Every actor needs a job.

There is no retirement plan.

There is no 401k for actors.

So you're going to see actors continue to work

throughout their lives.

But what kind of work they choose?

Are they going to play a caricature of themselves

and just kind of do the same thing that we've seen them do

in the last five movies?

Or are they going to push themselves

like you see Woody Harrelson do with every project he does?

It's incredible to see.

He doesn't have to do this.

Woody Harrelson's legacy is pretty set.

And his money is definitely set.

He's doing fine.

This isn't a guy that lives lavishly,

so he's been saving his money.

He does these things because he likes to push himself

as an actor.

He wants to...

He thinks he can do the best at this role,

and he's going to do it.

And I really admire his work.

I admire actors like that.

And I admire the cast of Arsenic and Old Lace.

A great crew that they got for this one.

Cast and crew.

And they are ready to perform for you.

Oh, I heard good things about opening night last night.

They're going to be back at it tonight at 7 o'clock

over at the Centralia Center at the WRCT Auditorium.

Head on over there and check out this great show.

One of the greater dark comedies of all time.

And this cast is bringing it to life for you.

You got a 7 o'clock show tonight.

And if you can't make that,

you got a 2 o'clock matinee tomorrow.

Next week, they'll be back at it again.

Thursday and Friday, 7 o'clock shows.

A 2 o'clock matinee to wrap everything up next Saturday.

You are going to help WRCT celebrate their 50th season,

as well as help...

Just help the arts in Wisconsin.

You know, it may not feel like it,

but that ticket that you buy is helping the arts in this state.

And it's just great entertainment.

It's so good.

They got a great cast.

You got to check this one out, everybody.

Go ahead and get down over to www.wrctheater.org

and get your tickets and while you're over there,

maybe fill out an audition form for Noises Off.

Melissa Kay's a directorial debut.

We'll be coming up next.

Yeah, I'm very excited for her.

March 10th is auditions for that.

Mark your calendars for it, everybody.

We will take a quick time out when we come up.

Terry and I got a hack for you that might help you

figure out what to do this weekend.

Nappy.

Nappy.

We gave it to you earlier.

It was Nappy.

Yeah, well, just coming up on the boarding show.

Welcome back, everybody.

Morning show here at WFHR.

Terry James hanging out with you.

Thanks for joining us.

Hope you're having a great start to your Friday out there.

Thank you for kicking it off with us.

Got an interesting hack right here.

Actress Kira Corsorin is training for a hack

that might help you figure out plans this weekend.

She was on the Nickelodeon show, the Thundermans.

And she was also part of the 90s show.

I'm not that familiar with her to be honest with you,

but she calls this the 50-50 method for couples.

When she and her husband can't decide

if they should go out or stay in,

they toss out percentages.

You might say, I'm 60% in 40% out.

Then they might say, I'm 20% in or 80% out.

And whoever has the wider percentage gap cares more,

so that's what you do.

So...

wider percentage gap from what?

Yeah, I mean, you lost me at math.

They also do it with food options like,

hey, should we have sushi or Italian?

Okay, so should we go out or stay in?

So her and her husband, she wants to stay in,

he wants to go out and they give the percentages.

And then if she's saying, well, I want to go out 80%,

and he's saying he wants to stay in 60%, then they go out.

Oh, I see.

So, I guess this is a way to do it.

I mean, but then when you get your way,

just by always going high.

I mean, yeah, you just wait for the other person

to give their number and then you give yours.

Yeah, I don't.

So, yeah, because I was waiting like,

you write it down maybe and then you slide the piece

paper over like that.

The gray reveal.

You each have these little dry raceboards

and then you write it down and then...

So I like to, I don't like to just do this to the,

our co-hosts and everything.

You know, I'm going to throw this at you and you haven't

pre-read it.

I tried to do that too sometimes.

This one I did not pre-read.

I kind of wish I had because I expected

a little bit more from this.

I really did.

It's just odd, but I don't get her gap thing.

You know what I mean?

Like, I don't get the whoever has the greatest

percentage gap.

Yeah.

Unless maybe it's from when you give your second percentage.

You know, so if I say I'm 80% going out,

whatever, and then you say, and then I say,

well, okay, I'm 60% going out.

So then is it the gap from your two answers?

Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

I'm over thinking.

Well, I am too then because I'm with you on this.

I don't know.

But, you know, to anybody out there listening,

maybe this isn't the greatest way of doing it.

But how do you do it?

How do you figure it out?

I mean, how about some rock paper scissors?

It's the best way.

Like, well, I don't think you need to overthink this one.

Rock paper scissors is right there for you.

Have you ever not wanted to go somewhere so much that,

like, you're like, you know, I'm not going,

I don't care if you go, but I'm staying home.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Which is not nice or supportive.

No.

But it is kind of funny because, you know, I have,

I think we've probably all had those moments, right?

Where you're just done for the day.

And it's like, well, if you want to do that fine,

but I'm just not.

I have had plenty of moments like that,

but I don't know if I've ever actually done it.

I will say I've had people do it to me.

I've definitely had the other side of that.

I have definitely felt that.

But I feel like it's one of those ones where, you know,

especially the give and take of a relationship.

Like, even with friends, you know, hey,

we're going to do this because they want to.

And, you know, down the line, we do somehow want to do

or something like that.

And not that that's the reason.

Because I also think it's a good idea.

I will say that, I don't know,

at the 10 times I've done that in my life.

I almost guarantee a seven or eight of those.

I ended up enjoying myself.

I ended up doing something that I wouldn't have done normally.

And I'm glad I did.

Sure.

And sometimes once you go, you know what I mean?

Like, once you actually just go do it, it's fine.

I think work can be like that too sometimes.

You're dreading work.

You're dreading it, dreading it.

You get into it and you're like, oh, this ain't so bad.

Like, I can get through the day.

Well, it's all right.

And honestly, it is so much better

when you just change your frame of mind a little bit.

Even when it's something crappy that you don't want to do.

It's like if I go into it, dreading it,

then it makes it a lot longer.

One of the best friends you can have the older you get

is perspective.

That is easily one of the better friends you can make.

As you get comfortable with perspective,

it changes a lot for you.

But there are just some times where you're like, yeah, I'm not going.

Yeah, definitely.

Definitely.

Which is cool.

I think it's a stronger relationship.

You should be able to do that.

And I'm like, hey, I just, I have a long week.

I do not feel like this.

Like, I won't be mad if you go, but I am not doing it.

Well, we do this thing where we work, work, work, work, work.

And we're so focused on work.

And that is really the American way.

And then we wonder why we don't feel like doing anything.

Which is, we're beat.

We're tired.

We just worked all week and everything.

I didn't want to sit down.

I don't even care what we do.

I just want to sit down.

I didn't care if there's anything on the radio or the TV.

This is a, that ain't right story possibly.

To each their own, you guys can decide and use the play at home morning show versions.

If you want to choose that, this is a stunning right story.

And by that, I say you can text in or call in.

Strawberries are expensive these days, but they're not $20 a piece.

Thank.

Unless you buy some weird types of luxury strawberries.

Gold-plated?

Yeah.

An influencer on TikTok has a video where she ate a $19 strawberry at a posh market in Beverly Hills.

She says, she says it's from Japan and quote,

apparently it's the best tasting strawberry in the entire world.

It comes out on a culinary tray with a plastic top around it, kind of like a snow globe.

And it looks absurd.

From what it's worth, for what it's worth, this random influencer approves,

saying it's the best strawberry she's ever had in her whole life.

For the love of God, are you kidding?

Yeah, I'm showing Terry a little bit of a picture.

It's not even like...

I mean, it's bigger than kind of your normal...

It is a really big strawberry.

If you buy a container of strawberries, it's bigger than those.

But it's not any bigger than the ones that you see that are like...

You know, like if you go in or you see on a chocolate dipped one at Valentine's Day time,

it's like that size.

Really?

Yeah.

There's no way it's worth it.

There's no way it's worth it.

The presentation of it is just insane, I think.

Seriously?

I don't know.

I can't even...

I can't...

If you have...

There's no way it could be worth it.

How about...

How about...

Put $19 in your 401k?

Yeah, yeah.

I feel like there's...

I mean, like...

9,000 different ways you could spend this better.

Like, I don't know.

And it might be a very good strawberry.

And yes, different strawberries taste different and, you know, whatever.

But come on.

Nah, I couldn't do it.

Couldn't do it.

That's dumb.

And another quick thing.

Well, I wholeheartedly admit I cannot stress this enough.

This is definitely not my wheelhouse.

But to the influencers out there, if there's any listening, I gotta know.

Like, what do you think of with these videos?

But 9,000 out of 10 of these videos I see, they're doing it in public.

And there's like tons of people around.

So you can never even barely hear them anyway.

Wow.

And let's be real.

She didn't pay for that strawberry.

And I can't think of...

Like, if I was...

If somebody was recording one of these videos when I'm around,

I am going to ruin that video for you.

I am, I am a wholeheartedly.

Shame on you.

Yep, shame on me and I admit it.

But shame on you for doing this in public.

You could do this at home.

You don't have to do these videos in public.

It's so weird.

I think it's rude to be doing this in public.

It's no different than when you're on the bus or you're in an elevator

and somebody's on one of those Bluetooth things.

And they're talking like at a 10.

Yeah.

But it's like before, like what we said before, it's an attention grab.

Yeah, absolutely.

Everything is an attention grab.

It's so annoying.

I'm shaming this person.

Like, I don't care what happens.

I don't care how old I see my...

Would you just like shaming them?

I think you should just get right in there and get a bite of your strawberry.

I'm photobombing this.

I'm doing everything I can.

I don't care.

I think you take a bite.

And I might take a bite of the strawberry.

I might.

How many times in life do you get a chance to try a 19 dollar strawberry?

You just see like all of a sudden this hand comes up.

I would be canceled in seconds.

Oh my god.

I would be canceled.

I might be canceled just for saying this.

It would be quite funny, yeah, actually.

Not to egg your ass.

But I think that maybe...

Oh, there's any influencers out there stay away from me.

Don't go anywhere else.

No.

Because I don't get it.

I don't...

I don't...

I do like the idea, I will say, of people being able to recommend things for people.

But if second money gets involved, your opinion is means nothing.

Okay.

If they are paying you for this, then your opinion means nothing about that product.

But that's all influencers.

I mean, they're getting their product for free to talk about it.

So though, let's just pull this all the way back to farming and fruits and vegetables.

Okay.

It might be the best tasting strawberry you've ever had.

If that strawberry came all the way from Japan, there's a lot of preservatives and other...

You know what I mean?

Like, it's not even...

I just...

Yeah, I don't know if it's worth it.

Don't think it's worth it.

Terry and I will be back after our new sports and partner break.

We're going to get into the top 10 go-to responses for dislike gifts.

Got that one coming up for you right here on the morning show.

Welcome back, everybody.

Morning Show at WFHR.

Hope y'all are having a great day out there.

Thanks so much for joining us.

Terry and James hanging out with you.

And I think that a lot of people are similar to how I am.

And I think you are to a degree, Terry.

Not to speak for you, but I think most of us are just...

It's the thought that counts.

It really truly is.

You know, when you get a gift from somebody no matter what it is,

no matter the dynamic of your relationship with that person,

that person thought of me, they're handing me something,

I'm going to be thankful for it.

Doesn't really matter what it is.

That being said,

we all also have all been in the situation of you get something

and you can be thankful for something.

And also, like, what is this?

Why did you give this to me?

Why did you think of me with this?

And looking and reading into it more.

And I think the other side of this, too,

where we've all given somebody something

and they have that look out their face.

Or something like that.

Maybe you've had that.

Don't you think it depends sometimes who the giver is?

You know what your tolerance is for it?

If one of your siblings has always known

that you very much dislike something,

but then that's what they give you.

Now, it might be because of being funny,

but it also might just be because they don't pay attention.

And then it's like, dang, why are you giving me this?

Yeah, that's the part of it.

I think that gift giving is not really that hard.

It can be, but it's not really that hard

if you're paying attention to that person.

Why don't you know better?

Yeah, and then she really shows if you get somebody like,

here's this and like, well, I've never, like,

what used do I have for a ski pole?

Barbie doll.

Yeah, Barbie doll. What do you do?

Like, do you know who you're buying this for?

Well, it's something that we all experience

on multiple different angles in this in different ways.

And a new survey asks people for their go-to responses

when they receive something they don't like.

And here are the top 10 responses.

The number one response.

Thank you for thinking of me.

27% usually say that.

I mean, if you can say it and mean it,

you know, like you said before, like,

we've all gotten things where sometimes you're like,

what is this about?

But if you truly mean it, you know,

thank you for thinking to me, then that's good.

I love it.

23% said that, even though then apparently they're lying

if I don't agree to the dessert.

Okay, when you rather here, thank you for thinking of me.

Yes.

Then someone faking that they love something,

I would totally.

Yeah, 100%.

Yeah.

I really appreciate this.

21% said that.

How about I really appreciate you?

Yeah.

You know what I mean?

Yeah.

Or I really appreciate, well, I guess it's the same as thinking to me.

I really appreciate the thought.

I mean, because.

Oh, that's honestly kind of where I lean towards it.

I focus on the person as a gift.

Because here's the thing.

Depending on how close you are to this person,

like you lay it on too thick,

and it's like something,

some nasty decoration or something,

you better have it on display when they come to your house.

In some ways, a gift is a human lie detector.

It really is.

You can tell.

You read so much in a person's face.

You may never read a person's face more

than how they respond to this.

You shouldn't have.

Literally.

14% said you shouldn't have.

Well, I feel like there are some people that I could say that too.

Yeah.

But I mean, like a minute.

Oh, yeah.

You know, like, oh, you shouldn't have.

Well, I'll be fair about this one.

If you've ever heard me say this, I mean it.

Like you really shouldn't have.

I am not comfortable again.

Like really, really.

I'm really, I really get about that.

I don't want to do with that.

Yeah, you are going to read about gifts.

What a thoughtful present.

13% say that.

Okay, that's fair.

That's nice.

I like that better than I still, I love it.

Like just laying, you know, that number two there.

Like that's laying it on too thick.

And there's a great note right away.

Like before we go any further, just don't overdo it.

Whatever your response is, I think being very down the line

is a fair safe way to do it.

You know, if you're just fudging kind of like you don't really love it,

then I mean, it could come back and bite you.

My, my little sister is so, like all the things I'm talking about about

are receiving gifts.

Jillian really, really is this to, to, to, to, to a fault almost.

Because I think sometimes she may come across like that.

When she's really just really, she's a really thankful person.

It just really appreciates things.

But I wonder sometimes how far she could go with it.

I'm like, let's see.

And what a thoughtful present.

What a great present are the number five and six there.

Similar.

Number seven, you're two kind.

11% will say that.

Yeah.

That's a go to for me.

Yeah, I don't think that that's bad.

And you know, I think the other thing is is clearly if someone took

whatever it was, the time, the money, to get you something,

to give you something, there is some thought put into it.

I mean, there's also the whole fruit basket thing.

Yeah.

But I just think, you know, showing appreciation,

even if you don't like or care about what it is

is really important.

Some of this can be a response to a gift that you like,

but isn't maybe, you know, blowing you away.

Like you get a gift card to somewhere you really like.

And that's a cool gift, but it's still a gift card.

You're not going to get.

Oh my god.

You know, you're going to freak out too much.

Okay, but I, you know, I'm a fan of the wellness spot.

And I'm an, oh my god, if I get one of those gift cards,

like I love that place.

There's no other side of it.

So it's the thought that counts 10% said that.

That's a, that's a, but are we kind of trained on that?

Yes.

Like in our, like our generation, that was, that's part of etiquette, right?

Like it's just, it's just part of how you treat people.

I don't have a ton of data for this one,

but I will say when it comes to my nephews,

or any of the, the kids that I've gotten to work with here at the station

or just have known in my day to day life

or my god children or something like that,

all really appreciative.

Yeah.

And maybe they're not writing thank you cards,

but they're sending you thank you texts and even my kids,

they're generations.

I seem to be pretty good about that.

I had to talk to my parents about this, though,

because my mom and dad, and many like them,

come from a generation of, if you're thankful, send them a thank you card.

Oh, I'm a thank you card writer.

And if you don't get the thank you card,

then they really didn't appreciate it.

Well, my, my kids' generation, they're texting, they're emailing.

Yeah.

They're, they're still doing the thank you card just a little bit differently.

It's a lost art.

I wish we still did it, but it is a lost art.

And, you know, I do, I agree with you.

You know, and, and thanks for thinking of me or, you know, that,

or that was a thoughtful gift or whatever.

I mean, I sometimes you want to be like,

I wish you would have thought about it a little more.

Yeah.

Let that, let that bake a little longer than I do.

It's so unique.

9% say that.

I would never say that.

No, I would never.

Whoever I said that to would totally see like right through it.

There's no way my friends would not see right through that.

My family, I think, would, but they also would give me a little like tongue and cheek with it.

My friends would see right through that one.

And finally, where'd you get this?

Eight percent said that.

Is that the equivalent of, so did you, uh, this is really nice.

Did you happen to keep the receipt?

Did you just, just asking, just asking.

I didn't notice the gift receipt in the bag.

Yes, I mean, that is kind of funny.

Now, if it is something, notice you took the tags off.

Right.

If it is something truly, truly unique that maybe you like really think is special, you know,

then yeah, like, oh my gosh, where did you find this?

But like, you know, you turn it over and the little tags is like 1996, you know, where they found it.

Like covered.

Yeah, exactly.

And the re-gift box.

Re-gift box.

The survey found that avoiding eye contact is the clearest sign of gift dissatisfaction,

followed by putting on a fast smile, changing the tone of your voice,

or talking too much about how great the gift looks.

Yeah.

I agree.

You can't win for losing on this one.

But you know, the whole eye contact thing, like not making eye contact,

but I think there's also the other extreme of like the stare.

You know what I mean?

Like, you're trying to make eye contact so you don't act natural at all.

Yes, like, I love the idea of that too.

Just like watching the person over the gift and like not even blinking.

It's more than half of the people in this survey say they're great at concealing their disappointment

if it's something they don't like.

And also, more than half of the people in this survey said they can tell right away

when somebody just likes it.

So nobody's fooling anybody.

And you know what?

It is ultimately the thought that counts.

And it is the fact that someone took enough time, effort to get you something.

And you know, if you don't like it, just move it along.

Right?

I mean, showing appreciation and gratitude is one of the greatest things that we can ever do.

And I don't know, you can think of the people in your life who are really good at it.

You know, that are always showing appreciation.

And you know, the gift, I guess, is the side benefit of that.

I think the greatest hack for this is act naturally.

You know, act naturally.

If you are truly appreciative, especially before you're opening that gift,

you got a moment to think about this.

Think about the fact that whatever you're about to open, you're appreciative of.

You know, and I think you're okay after that.

And I think this just reminded me of a one time we were at a birthday party.

Friends of our family, like at their son's birthday.

And he must have been maybe like four or five, you know, pretty little yet.

Yeah.

But it was so funny when he was opening gifts.

He was like, well, what would I want this for?

You know, and that's like, isn't that every parent's nightmare where you're like,

who's, you know, just pretend you like all the presents.

Oh, my gosh, demortified.

Oh, man.

I mean, fortunately, it was like from another family, but who didn't get all bent out of shape about it?

Because the reality is, too, is kids are kids.

Oh, yeah.

And that's just the thing.

But I found it as an adult.

Like, I mean, people give you stuff or like, it might be the cutest coffee mug ever seen or ever made.

But at the same time, if it didn't come from one of my kids, like I don't need another coffee mug.

So, you know what?

That thing's getting shuffled on.

No offense to anybody, but it's getting moved on.

And, you know, one man's junk is another man's treasure.

You probably love it.

Right.

You brought up the regifting thing a little bit earlier and I meant to mention this before.

I, for just speaking for myself, I have no problem with getting a regift or giving one.

I feel like, and again, I'd be alone on this one.

Once I give you something, it's yours.

Like, whatever you do with it, if you go right around and hand it to somebody else, a two seconds afterwards, it's not my business.

It's yours.

Well, and it's not used, right?

Like, I mean, a regift box is for new stuff.

It's not for the half-burn candle.

Now, you might want to put a little sticky note on it that says James gave it to you so you don't give it back to James.

It's a good idea.

It's very good.

I don't write that one down, but don't give it back to the girl.

I mean, you can regift.

Just don't give it back to the girl.

I would do that.

That was something that I...

Would that be a horrible thing to get caught in?

Oh, my God.

That'd be just awful.

Okay, but now you think about, if it's the right person, it'd be hilarious.

I mean, you know, but there's also people who would be very hurt and offended.

I do like the idea of a couple of friends, like, that's their tradition.

Every year, they're just regifting the same gift back and forth.

I do like that, actually.

That's kind of a fun idea.

And what are your responses?

What are the funnest or weirdest responses you've gotten from a gift we'd love to hear from you about this one?

We'll keep it going next week as well.

Go ahead.

Reach out for us.

Oh, that's interesting.

That's not good.

Nope.

Nope.

I did want to touch on a couple of quick ones here that I thought were kind of fun.

And give us an opportunity to shout out our local police departments and the police departments around the country.

A Massachusetts police department said a reported bear sighting in the city was most likely raccoon.

Oh, wow.

Big raccoon.

Avon police deputy chief Chris Abartello said that the department received the report of a bear sighting in the city on Saturday.

But animal control officers weren't able to find any bear.

Officers patrolling in the same area on Monday encountered another resident who offered an explanation.

And I quote, another individual said that wasn't a bear.

It was a raccoon.

The person posted something on Facebook of footprints and allegedly they were too small to be a bear.

Oh, so they didn't actually see the critter go by.

It was just footprints because I was getting a little worried.

I'm like, you need some stronger glasses.

They have seen an uptake in bear sightings both locally and in part of the state.

So they weren't too unfamiliar with or they were a little bit on guard of this one.

Black bears have been increasing in numbers in distribution since the 1970s.

The statewide population of the bears estimated to be over 4,500 of those animals.

Well, and they, you know, about this time of year.

Well, soon they'll be starting to wake up to, you know, and so you never know.

We've had them passing through in rapids here.

I do feel like though, if you were the person reporting this, maybe not a bad idea.

Get your eyes checked.

Maybe not the bad idea.

Maybe not.

Or get a little kid's board book that shows animals.

Yes, it's one of the other.

Now, if this took place in California, I might speak a little differently on it.

The way the raccoons are out there, they're huge.

Those things are huge.

They're not the size of a black bear.

Not that big.

Not that big.

And state troopers in Indiana ended up in a hoof chase with a sassy pony spotted wandering in a highway median.

Sergeant Teddy Bonner, public, public information officer for the Indiana State Police Department,

posted on their Facebook page a report of a pony in the median on the Indiana tollway near other four to four mile,

like La Port County over there.

Put one of the more popular pounds.

Well, you definitely don't want it to get hit.

The horse or the pony fled before troops arrived.

And after more than half an hour of searching, they located the pony near a fence line of a toll road.

The pony was ready for this adventure to end and continue Don, even so they posted the pony wasn't ready for this adventure to end.

And continue Don, even though both troopers said, hey, stop.

Well, okay, in their defense, I don't think in their recruits school like their teeth taught last week.

No.

Or if they were, they probably weren't wearing their lasso.

So, I mean, you know, there's that.

I do love the idea of, you know, every, every year or every so and so, they got to learn new skills or learn new things.

Like, hey, you got to learn a lasso and guns.

On their gun belt, they have like every tool known to man, you know what I mean?

Like, let me get to the layer three and find my lasso.

When did I become Walker Texas Ranger?

When did that happen?

Well, I mean, there's something to be said for that.

I think there's quite a few officers that would mind that.

I think that that's pretty cool.

But you touched on exactly what I think is, like, this is a fun but also informative one because it just speaks to how much we ask of our officers that they did not sign up for.

It's a nice reminder of that one and a big shout out to them, especially this time of year where I also could have taken this five minutes to talk about six different stories I saw around the country of officers and firefighters helping an animal stuck on the ice or helping an individual stuck on the middle of the ice or something like that.

Another thing that they're not, they don't sign up for, but they do bravely, and we appreciate.

We will take a quick time out.

We'll be back with more show coming up for you, right?

Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait.

My computer did a jump on me, Terry.

That was weird.

There we go.

We'll be back with the wrap up the show here on the morning show.

It is time for us to go wrap up the week here on the morning show, Fab 4 Helping Us.

I'm going to start doing this where on Fridays we're going to use this one as our closeout song.

We used to have our Fab 4 Fridays around here, and it's just kind of a tip of the hat to Marcus and our friends at Harder Wisconsin Media and everything.

And it's a fun ending of the week.

It is.

It's a fun way to end the week.

We are going to wrap up the show here.

We're going to have a really fun conversation.

Get an update on the Wisconsin Ravics Public Schools.

And then we'll have playmakers for you tonight from five to six.

Be sure to join us.

All those sports takes and feelings you have.

You don't want to keep those inside.

They've got a shelf life.

You've got to get rid of those out of your system people.

That's kind of a scary invitation.

I really am horrible at this.

No, I'm just saying.

You don't know what you're going to get after throwing that out there.

We are looking forward to getting it and hearing it from you tonight.

Sports related players.

Yes, sports related.

Looking forward to a big shout out to our friends at Quality Plus Printing and Family Natural Foods.

Being sponsors of that hour would greatly appreciate you for that.

And remember that we're going to be keeping a close eye on our local teams here as boys and girls.

You know, the brackets are continuing on.

And we got tournament play going on.

Some regional stuff going on tonight.

You've got number eight loyal taking on number one.

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.

Pay attention to that game.

If assumption wins, we will have assumption basketball for you on the radio tomorrow on WIRI.

At 6.50, as the girls march on, we'll have that game for you, whoever they're playing.

Randy and Seth will be covering for you.

So if the assumption girls win tonight, keep an eye on that and be paying attention.

Also, while you'll be paying attention to that while also taking in some great theater

because the reminder again, our second-old lace has great shows for you this weekend.

A seven o'clock show tonight and a two o'clock matinee tomorrow.

And they're back at it again next week.

Get your tickets for that at wrctheter.org.

Keep in mind the winter farmers market is going on tomorrow from 9 to 1.

Got a great one lined up for you for some with some great vendors.

You can see what vendors will be there at their Facebook page.

Go ahead and check that out.

And Terry wanted to wrap up talking to a little unite away with you and reminding everybody.

We want everybody to be a part of women's united and power of the purse.

Yeah, we invite you to join us for our annual power of the purse event.

On Tuesday, March 11th, starting at 5 p.m. at Bullseye Golf Club.

This is a great opportunity to spend some time.

Happy hour, pasta bar, all of those fun things with your girlfriends.

So I encourage anyone listening who has an interest to join us.

You don't even have to love purses.

I mean, that is the bonus, right?

We have 24 purses for silent auction.

We have a lot of raffles and other fun things going on.

But there's also just the opportunity to come spend some time networking with other women.

You could sponsor a child or two for imagination library.

So there's a lot of ways to get involved.

But this is a great opportunity to come join us.

Have a nice evening out and make an impact on literacy in the community.

So it also feels like a really good way if you've ever been curious about women united and the work you guys are doing

or even the united way and the work you do over there.

Hey, what a great opportunity to come find out, ask some questions and mingle and have a great time while you're at it.

Absolutely.

Many of our members of women united do attend the event.

And so it is a great opportunity to learn more and maybe consider joining us.

And there are so many other great things available for you through the United Way and the United Way's website.

I know I'll be using my free taxes maybe this weekend, maybe next weekend, but I'll be using it right now.

Oh, you really have your stuff together.

I tried to.

I tried to.

I tried to.

You know, ask me in two weeks how that's going.

But yeah, see if you're done or not.

And a big reminder.

Hey, everybody, the funding applications are wrapping up.

We need you to go ahead and fill those out so the United Way can help you assist you doing the great work that you're doing out there.

Fill those out, find out more at UWAC.org.

Encouraging to do that.

Everybody.

And of course, a reminder that our great friends over at LCFA are celebrating their two-year anniversary.

Let's help them celebrate by local support local and have some fun while you're at it.

This weekend get on over there to 221 Market Avenue and beautiful port Edwards.

Keep in mind they got that famous fish fry going on tonight.

Go ahead and check that out, especially if you haven't had a chance to try it before.

And your beverage is on them.

Excluding alcoholic beverages.

They're just trying to thank everybody for two great years of service.

We thank them because LCFA puts into not only this, you know, thing we do here, but all kinds of businesses around the communities.

Yeah, and they jumped in right away.

Yeah.

You know what I mean?

Sponsory stuff being part of things in the community.

And so, you know, I definitely, whatever we can do to support them.

Whether it's LCFA or the United Way or any of these great businesses and nonprofits,

we're talking about support those that support us, support the people that have our back in this community.

Let's have theirs and make sure that we have a great time with some of these events.

I did want to wrap up with a good story of the day.

Cops in Saratoga Springs, New York saved a 22-year-old horse on Monday that fell through the ice on a pond.

They had to pull him with a rope and it wasn't easy.

Their chest cam footage recovered it.

It's very few times you can see an animal relief and happiness on a horse's face.

It's kind of hard to tell, but you can in this video.

It's a great one.

And a woman in England celebrated her 105th birthday but going to a rave.

Her name is Hilda Jackson.

Her retirement home through her one on Tuesday after 81-year-old nephew heard she wanted to go to a rave.

So they had one at the retirement center.

That's awesome.

Okay.

I got a few questions.

Yeah.

Terry, thank you for a great show.

Have a good weekend.

You too.

Have a good weekend, everybody.

Be good to each other.

This is locally grown radio.
