… I Thought Turkeys Could Fly (Hour 1)

Mornings with WFHR · Fri Feb 28, 2025

Good morning, Wisconsin. Morning, world. It's a new day. Thanks for kicking it off with

us at WFHR.

Got your host, James Vine, the mic I am joined by CEO of Yuri and Nightaway of South

wood and Ames County's Terry Johns. Good morning. Got the band together on a Friday.

Oh, last put in a wrap on February. Yeah, this is good. This could be crazy, huh?

Yeah, it is a little crazy. It is. We got plenty of things to get to this morning. We're

to kick it off the way we like to with a good friend, Brittany Barlow. Brittany, I was looking

at the forecast and I see that there's a possibility of this thing called snow. Could you

let our audience know what exactly that is? I'm not sure where that familiar with it anymore.

Oh, I love that. Yes, they're sure it is. Are you talking about next week with some major

snow potential? Oh, at that part, I didn't see it. It's not that we had a possibility of flurries.

And so a USM is an opportunity to make a bad joke. That's exactly what I did. That's.

You know what today? Today is just going to straight blow. It's going to be terrible.

It's beautiful. It's sunny now. It feels mild. Temperatures are in the low 40s, but this is our

highest for today. We're only going to go down from here and more and more clouds moving in.

And like you said, a chance for a few spotty sprinkles that could flip to some flurries

because we have a clipper system that is swinging through the state pretty viciously.

And it's going to bring some strong winds. I'm going to go wind advisory that starts at 10

o'clock this morning and goes until about 6 o'clock this afternoon. Now right now, it's not too

bad. Winds are gusting at about 20 miles per hour, but they're starting to get vicious and they're

going to be switching to out of the northwest and they're going to be blasting us with winds sustained.

At the constant wind, about 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts approaching 40 to potentially

50 miles per hour. So of course, it's going to be a very, very windy day. Power outages are

possible. Your hair is going to be a mess. And of course, it's going to be hard to drive to

if you have a bigger car too. So I love talking about a crazy day. I love talking about a coat.

So James, if you could just run and get that for me, you got it. You got it. You're right back.

You just go ahead and here's the topic. Talks amongst yourselves.

What a weather. Pretty soon. What a weather. Is it sweater? Is it sweater weather? Or is it sweater?

It's good to have an update on these things. You know, one of these days, when we have some time,

I would love to dive into this with you about the about what to when you're looking forward because

so much of whether the data that you take from last year, the year before, 20, 30 years before,

I don't know how much that matters anymore. Going forward, just how weird it is and everything.

So I'd love to get into that with you sometime when we have more time. Well, we'll talk off

air about that and we'll figure something out. Yeah, let's definitely do that. That's one

like a wonderful thing to talk about. But until then, you guys enjoy your weekend. You too.

Best in a business. Have a good one, Brittany. You too. We appreciate her, Jordi.

She'll be back with us on Monday. Be looking forward to that. I mean, she got me as soon as she said

your hair is going to be a best. Yeah, but but but a possibility of some snow next week,

whatever. There you go. She brought us back. I'll take it. We got good things coming up. The

LKF Aperth and anniversary club is right around the corner. We'll be celebrating today in the whole

weekend. And after our news, sports and partner break, we will get you into the culvert star of the

day. We're going to some fun with that one. Looking forward to it. Got a little bit of science

news for you guys. They're going to get into a couple of fun topics. We have a parade of planets.

We want to remind everybody about and did what? How did exactly wolves get domesticated?

Just a touch on that one a little bit. How much a single strawberry can cost in Japan? And

Terry, kind of a follow up to our story last week, we did about the tips for taking the perfect

nap. Well, we have six steps for the perfect nap now. Oh, nice. We're getting people really ready

for the weekend. And we're going to help you get ready for your weekend too, because we got a

couple of other things. Well, some entertainment news for you. Let's know what's new on your small

screen, big screen, and your local theater stage. And we have a hack that could help you decide

what to do this weekend. And we'll see if we have time for the top 10 go-to responses for dislike

gifts. That could be very helpful to some people of it. I think that song's kind of fun.

We will get into all of that, but I want to kick off the show talking a little bit about. Well,

actually, you know, something that is close to the United Way and sending a shout out to

everybody at the family center and chefs for change last night. I heard great things.

Everything went very well. I had a read through for my first read through for a movie that I'm

being a part of. And I wasn't able to be there. I felt horrible about it as much as I love what I

get to do for a living. I would have much rather been there. I just being honest. I was honest with

the director. I'll be honest with you guys. I felt bad not being there, but I didn't feel as bad

because it was such a good turnout. Everybody had a good time looking forward to doing this again

next year, hopefully. Yeah, that's great. What I saw on social media looked really good. I also

was unable to attend. We had our wish and our nephew staying with us for a week and a half

while my brother and sister-in-law were on vacation. So we had some plans already in the works,

but yeah, it looked great. I can't wait to hear even more about it. Yeah, absolutely. And again,

a big tip of the hat to all the sponsors, all the volunteers, all the people that worked so hard

on that one that went to the event and had fun. And certainly our friends over at the family center.

We appreciate the work that they're doing over there. Hope it helps.

Looking to help another cause in our area, women's united working to, in many different layers,

Terry, empower the person right around the corner. Yeah, we're about a week and a half out from

this event. So we encourage ladies out there to get on board, get a ticket, come and join us,

grab your friends. But the event is on Tuesday, March 11th, starts at 5 p.m. at Bullseye Golf Club.

We have lots of fun stuff going on, and we have a pasta bar, you know, dessert, of course,

like we don't have old ladies' events without some good sweets. Sure, sure.

But we do have a handbag, silent auction, and this is how we are raising funds for

Deli Parton's Imagination Library. So, you know, really looking forward to that, getting more and more

kids, getting free books in the mail through what we raise at this event. Also, in addition to the

handbag, silent auction, we have some raffles. We've got some great items for our raffles.

And this year, new this year, we have a mystery box. So in that box is a purse. I don't even know

what it is. Like I bought it as a mystery box. So I don't even, I have no idea. You know, I'm told

that it has a $90 value, and so that's a raffle as well. So of course, we'll have the winner,

you know, pop it open at the event, so everybody can see it. But you know, certainly looking forward

to that as a new event. And then, you know, of course, we thank all of our great sponsors for this

event, including media partners, like yourself, you know, like civic media, and then also our

partners, you know, over at the chamber, helping us to promote this event. But we do encourage you

to buy your tickets in advance. You can do that by visiting our website at uwac.org. You can also

stop and see us at 351 Oak Street here in Wisconsin Rapids. Again, looking forward to a great event.

Can you get a preview of the purchase at all? You can, not quite yet. It's coming. So it's

actually really close because we typically do sneak peeks, as we call them, for about the 10

days prior to the event. So those will be starting. I think maybe she's start some tomorrow.

Must be tomorrow. Tomorrow or Sunday will be the first one. But you know, we're kind of not really

super nice about it. Like we don't get let you see the whole post, but you might see a detail

from one of the persons or something like that just to, you know, maybe, maybe intrigue you

enough to want to come and check it out. So those sneak peeks will start sometime over the weekend

and those happen on our social media. So you would want to follow us on Facebook or on Instagram

where you can, you know, see more, learn more about events and, and as importantly, learn more

about impact that we have in the community, right? So we are, we typically are just making a daily

post, you know, we're trying not to flood your, flood your feed, but grab your attention.

And so you, you see a lot of things in there about the impact that we have in the community.

So I encourage you to follow us there. And then we will be, if you're on our email list,

if you get our newsletter via email, we will next week also be setting a reminder to get tickets

and there'll be some sneak peeks on there too. Just in case, you know, sometimes people just don't

do social media and, and that's okay. But we just thought we'd, you know, give a couple,

couple sneak peeks on there. I also encourage people to jump on and visit our website.

We did launch a new website in December. We have a new marketing communication staff person.

This is only the end of her second week. And she is like running circles around us. So it's,

it's amazing. She's doing great, great work. And so, you know, when you, when you jump on our website

and see it looks really fresh and, and exciting and, and, you know, that's, that's all a tribute to Anna.

So, you know, we're super excited to have her there. But we also are, you know, really happy

to bring you the latest and greatest. And so when you do log on to our website, you see,

of course, power the purse where you can purchase tickets. You will also see my free taxes.

So you can file your taxes for free in most cases by visiting my free taxes. So if you come to

our website, there's a link there and you can go and file your taxes for free. This isn't,

this is a, can be a hefty expense, you know, for, for an individual or for families that,

that we can help to alleviate. And so, you know, that's a big shout out to United Way Worldwide

and the partnerships that they created to make sure that, that folks have an opportunity to

file their taxes online for free. Today is also the very last day to apply for funding for

2026. So you must be a 501c3 school or government program to apply for funding and those applications,

again, available on our website. And you must have that application submitted by 4pm today.

And then just, you know, if that's not enough, you can check out our annual report.

Earlier this month, we had our annual meeting. So, you know, probably through Monday, we have our

annual report kind of front and center. But, but of course, that information can always be found

on our website when you look in the about us section. And you can see, you know, our, our high

level financials, you can see our 990, you know, we're, transparency is really important to us.

And so that information is always there. But I do encourage you to jump on and, and see what is

available to you and also ways that you can engage and, and get involved through United Way

and the community. You sent Anna. Yeah. Wishing, uh, welcoming her to the team and everything.

Appreciate the work that she's been doing already. Uh, and appreciate you with the bookmark.

I love the bookmark. Yeah. Getting ready for power the purse. I never stop working.

I, yeah, she's, she's hard at work over here, everybody. And I'm not even, I'm not kidding,

she really is. But as soon as the bikes go off, that's all she's doing. I, I did want to mention

two real quick things. One, I encourage everybody to sign up for the, um, the United Way newsletter.

I was able to get the number of the things that Terry just talked about right away, sent right to

my email box, uh, very similar to our WFHR newsletter, which we also encourage you to sign up on.

And when you have that United Way letter, it not only, uh, gives you insight to some of the things

Terry was talking about, but I think encourages you to look at the website, to look a little bit

more into some of these things and, uh, find out more. And with everything we talk about with,

and whenever Terry is, uh, nice enough to join us in everything, that annual report is really a

synopsis of so much of what we're talking about and the work we're trying to do here. We have a

lot of fun together and it's been great to do this with you over the years. Uh, one of my favorite

people have a work with radio, but the work we're able to do in this segment right here, um, I think

is the most impactful work we're doing. And, and that's what it's all about is helping this community

working with this community and making this community that much stronger. We're stronger together.

And I think, you know, exactly what you said, like we do different work, but we're both about

what is this community need, identifying what the community needs and then delivering on that.

Right. So, you know, you're doing it through information. We're doing it through programming.

But, but I, you know, I think that what we're doing is, is very similar and in the same alignment

of how are we caring for, um, the, the members of our community. Yeah. We encourage you to get those

tickets for power of the purse and be on the lookout for other things on their social media and

share what they do on their social media. Let's help build that Facebook page. I mean, really,

let's really really get two tickets for power of the purse. Bring it. Bring a friend. Bring a

friend. Yeah. You don't want to go alone. Trust me. God trust me. You do not want to go do this

event or any event alone. Just, just take my word for it. And if you've been, you know how fun it is.

And if you've never been there, take the, it's, it's a great event. Find out more at uswac.org.

We're going to take a time out, come back with the L Cafe birthday and anniversary club. And

don't forget, we still got our culverts start of the day around the corner for you right here on

the morning show. It's time to do some celebrating with our great friends over at L Cafe

in the birthday and anniversary club. We encourage you to treat yourself, get on over to

21 Market Avenue in beautiful port Edwards. Wish our great friends over at L Cafe a great day

from all of us, a good weekend from all of us. Enjoying them as they celebrate their two-year

anniversary. Let's get that's gone here. Yeah. Look congratulations. Big celebration for our great

friends over there. Try one of their specials or maybe you're hungry and for their famous fish fry,

go check that out. They got some great beverages over there for you with that fish fry. And they have,

oh, they're excluding out, so your beverage is on them excluding alcoholic beverages. As

their way of saying thank you for support for the over the last two years. Oh nice. That's really

cool. Cheers to many more and salo to them. Muzzletop. That's fun. That's just awesome. That's so

much fun. We're really happy for our friends at L Cafe. Happy and second anniversary to them help

them celebrate. Today and really any chance you get to get on over to 21 Market Avenue in beautiful

port Edwards by local support local everybody. And of course we want you to get us those birthdays

and anniversaries. We love to celebrate with you. Email us info at wfhr.com. You're going to call

a direct message us on our Facebook pages. And of course call up 715-424-2600. Just to touch

your true way on the civic media app. Terry, now I need you to do a little bit of work. Let me go

right back to what you're doing. I need a one or two. One. All right. Give us that one. And I need

a one another one or two. Two. All right. And oh, we just, yeah, we got one single qualifier for the

way. Actually, I give you a one or two. Yeah. Yeah. One. All right. There you go. And we got our

qualifier. So we can dive right into it. And first up, we want to remind everybody that this is,

of course, as Terry was touching on earlier, the end of February. So that means on Monday, Melissa

Seth and I are going to be drawing a winner for the month of February. Looking forward to it.

Somebody's going to win two gifts certificates to L Cafe. Looking forward to handing those out to

someone. I haven't gotten to draw in a really long time. It has been a while. It has been a while.

I do put my own schedule. So I could just pick the first. Okay, fine. Never mind. Moving on.

I'll backtrack on that little rant. We are looking forward to draw that winner. But our last

qualifiers for February, we've got it right here for you. And first up, I want to wish

you happy birthday to David Collins. Happy birthday to him. Happy birthday, David. And a happy

birthday to our qualifier, a guy who can qualify now. Jeff Seagler. Oh, happy birthday, Jeff.

Jeff was our former manager and marketing specialist around here. And one of my favorite people

I've worked with in radio. He is hilarious. Yeah. You have to be friends with him on Facebook,

aren't you? Yes. I mean, sometimes I'm just like, you know, retirement's treating this guy good.

It really, you know, that's, I mean, I mean to tell him that. And if he, if he hears this, please

somebody make sure he does. If he doesn't hear this, I want to learn from him on retirement.

I have no idea if I'll be able to, but I want to take notes because Jeff is doing it right.

Really is happy birthday. Yeah, happy birthday, man. Enjoy your day, Jeff. Hope it's a good one for you.

We take a look at Saturday birthdays. And first up, we shouldn't have happy birthday to Ron Stowell.

Happy birthday, Ron. Enjoy the day, sir. Hope it's a good one for you. And our qualifier, our first

qualifier for the month of March is a good one. Happy seventh birthday to Hadley Rainey.

Oh, happy birthday, Hadley. That's a great name and a great birthday. Number seven, that's great.

So March 1st birthday, you know, we need to get Brittany back on the phone because we didn't talk

about if March is coming in like a lion or a lamb. I was all so to make that joke. And I did,

it just didn't seem like it was. Well, it didn't really seem like it was coming in like a lion.

So I didn't feel like it was a great joke. It felt like it's coming in more like a, like a stuffed,

like a stuffed animal lion, like just kind of like a lamb. Like a lamb. Yeah, like a lamb. So,

you know what that means? Then it goes out like a lion. Oh, good. Yes, it could. Yes, it could.

Okay, all right. Happy seventh birthday to Hadley. And as we take a look at Sunday birthdays,

we wish a happy birthday, a very happy birthday to our great friend Bill Heck, our former veterans

spokesperson and would join us at the beginning of every month. Happy birthday, Bill.

We appreciate Bill very much and everything he did in this community and all the time that he

spent hanging out with us. And our qualifier on Sunday, Amy Aldi. Happy birthday, Amy.

Enjoy the day, Amy. We wish you a great one. I hope it's a good birthday for you. And again,

quick reminder, you can get us those birthdays in anniversary. Still everybody by calling it.

So one, five, four, two, four, twenty, six hundred. For now, we'll take a look at our celebrity

birthdays for the weekend. For today, Pat Monahan is 56, lead singer of train, drops a Jupiter,

a soul sister. They had a couple of hits. The great, the wonderful supreme character actor, John

Totoro is 68 today. Pete and no brother were out now. Pino and do the right things. Seymour and

the transformer mervies, Carmine and the Batman, John Totoro. He's on the TV show Severance right

now too. Great actor. One of my all-time favorites, just a great actor. The wonderful, the great

Bernadette Peters is 77 today. Amy's mom in Lenora Lindell on the good fight. She was in a bunch of

Steve Martin movies like Penny's from Heaven. But my favorite role of hers and just one of my favorite

comedies of all time, top three comedies of all time, The Jerk. Steve Martin's The Jerk.

I still, as a little kid, I would stop if no matter what I was doing if that was on TV.

And to this day, I still can't help myself. It is not a movie that is aged well and I don't care.

I cannot help myself. You know, there are movies like that. They're just are. They're just are.

Like last night when I was slipping through in Titanic was on. And I did sit and watch it till it

did you did you get up as much as I love Steve Martin. Bernadette Peters is a big part of why I

stop and watch that movie. Great actress. Now, one of the greatest racists of all time. Mario

and Jreti is 85 today. And then there's some people no longer with us. Like Gilbert Gottfried,

but in the stay in 1955. It's the best way a couple of years ago in 2022. Old school comedian,

Jafar's parrot logo in Aladdin. One of the better voice actors and what was the commercial?

You know what I mean? Like what company was the commercial that we was pretty prominent on?

Did a couple? I don't remember. I remember one that he did. I know when you're talking about

Freak Bonner born in the state in 1942 herb on WKRP and Cincinnati.

Do you ever feel like we should re-enact some of that stuff? I absolutely want to.

More on that coming up. Let's see here. And

bruh. But oh, no, I want to move to Saturday. Yeah, we're moving to Saturday. Let's go ahead and

take a look at Saturday birthdays. Justin Bieber is 31. Whoa. Yeah, that's, I don't know why,

I don't know if he, this is a weird one. I don't know if he, if I think he should be older or

younger. I know. That's what I was just going to say. Like when you said 31, I'm like, oh, well,

okay. I did not look, I did not have a chance to look at these ahead of time or anything.

So I was, I'm a little kind of like, take it back. Maybe like maybe like 23 or 24 or forever.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. I don't know. Kesha is 38. Really?

Good singer, songwriter. I think she just came out with something. I put her more like 30.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. See, I have them mixed up. Yes. Yeah. Wonderful. Amazing actress. Lupita Nguongo

is 42 today. Nikiya and the Black Panther movies, Maz and the Star Wars movies. And she wanted

Oscar as playing Petsy in 12 years of slave. In 12 years of slave, it's a hard movie, but it's

one I encourage people to watch. Chadwick Boseman, one of his greatest performances. That man

gives you everything he's gotten that movie. And you have Michael Fastbender in it, who I,

I think is one of the top five greatest actors in the world, Michael Fastbender. And especially

in this movie, he's incredible in it. Lupita X circles around all of them.

Much. Her performance is like goosebumps, I get. It's just, it's why when I talk about acting

as an art, the work she did in that movie is what I'm talking about. That's one of those ones where

we got the Oscars coming up this Sunday and everything. And this is one of the more questionable

ones. There's no real clear cut. Oh, this is for sure going to win in any category. There's no

categories. Very few times I've seen it like this. That year, it was like, well, thank you for coming

everybody else, but this is Lupita's award. And everybody do that. Like she just, that's the

performance she gave. Jensen Eccles is 47. Dean on Supernatural. He's been on the boys as well.

Real good actor. I like him a lot. Good actor. Very good actor. How are you? Ardem is 56 today.

And tomorrow, no country from old men. One of the more darker roles you've seen. He was a

villain in Skyfall as well. Let's see here. Ron Howard is 71 tomorrow. Of course, most people

remember him as Opia Neanderthes show or Richie Cunningham and Happy Days, but he is also a

world renowned director. One of the better directors we have seen in a long time. Grant

Splash, cocoon, willow, parenthood, backdrop, Apollo 13. Ransom, a beautiful mind, the DaVinci code.

Is that cool? It just goes on and on. Like I love that. I'd even bring up my favorite thing he's

done. He is one of the producers. It was one of the producers and the narrator for the TV show

Resid Development, one of my favorite comedies of all time. Ron Howard and one thing that doesn't

come up in his IMDB and in his resume, but it did come up recently. Jason Bateman was on the

Conan O'Brien's podcast and he was talking about this. Ron Howard is one of Hollywood's greatest

mentors. Like since he was a little kid, he's been a mentor. Most people think of, you know,

child actors as well, the adults helped them out. And Andy Griffith was a big part of Ron Howard's

life and a huge help for him. But Andy Griffith talked about an interview. Ron was very helpful

for him too as a young age. Like he was just a very mature young little kid. And one of these

like weird stories in Hollywood where yeah, he got out of acting, but he didn't get out of the game.

He just went to a different angle on it. Very similar to Clint Eastwood, late in his career,

deciding, well, you don't want to use me as an action star any more fine. I'll go behind the camera.

Just a very cool arc to his career. Yeah, that is cool. The other thing I like about him is you

don't see like all of his movies, even just the few that you rattled off. Like he's not just sticking

in like one genre. Yes. You know what I mean? Like he's kind of very good boy. He's not just like a

superhero guy or a western guy or or dramas or yeah, I don't know. I think that's kind of cool.

It is very cool because he stretches himself, right? I don't I couldn't say that about some directors

that I look up to. I couldn't even say that about it. I think that's a really good note. And Roger

Daltry is 81 tomorrow. One of the bigger stronger, greater frontman. We have ever seen the

who's lead frontman, not a bad actor too, but you can't talk about the who and you know, Roger

Daltry, not know his name. And let's see here. Then let's take a look at Sunday birthday. We

got Sunday birthdays to look at. And we got to wish happy birthday on Sunday to Mr. Luke

Combs, 35 for Luke Holmes, one of the better singer song writers in all Nashville. And having like

that we look at this and I'm asking the question over on the sunrise show who's going to have the

biggest year of 2025. Luke Combs has been having this big year for like three, four years now.

It just keeps going. Yeah, that's all right. That's good. Yeah. Yeah. Good on them. Let's see here.

Bryce Dallas Howard is 44, Ron Howard's daughter. So her birthday is right the day after his

I would like that. I think that would be cool. My kid's birthday is nowhere near mine,

but I kind of like the idea of that. That seems like it'd be cool. She's she's incredible actor

and director herself. She's becoming a better a good director. She directed a couple episodes

of the Mandalorian and did a great job. I like when I can tell a different director when I can

see it when it doesn't just look like everything else. And I feel like with her you can tell oh this

is this is Bryce's work. You know, she's starting to get developed that a little bit more and a

good actress. Let's see here. Chris Martin is 48 from Coldplay, Coldplay lead singer and songwriter.

And I will mention this for you Terry and because I should. John Bon Jovi is 63 on Sunday.

What were you going to leave him over? I do not leave him. I thought it was Corey Hart's birthday.

You can't talk about the 80s and not talk about John Bon Jovi. And you can't be a teenage girl from

the 80s and not talk about Bon Jovi and let's be real. Yeah, fair, very fair. People in Lorraine

Newman will be 73 on Sunday. One of the originals of the cast of Centaurate Live was fantastic. She had

a great sketch in the 50th anniversary special. Pete Davidson. She was in very I almost

almost think feel like she wrote the sketch because it was very Lorraine Newman, very deadpan.

And you didn't get a lot of female actors doing that. It was usually a guy thing. Lorraine Newman did

that quite a bit in her career. Didn't get a lot of credit for it. Maybe one of the first female

women to do it. Oh, be Arthur in mod and some other stuff too. But you just didn't get a lot of

that from women. Jean Curtain did a little bit of it. Lorraine Newman, great at it. Good to wish

her a happy 73rd. And people no longer with us to would have been celebrating birthdays on Sunday.

Mikhail Gorbachev, born in 1931, passed in 2022, former Soviet president, Tom Wolf, amazing

American author, the right stuff, Bonfire, the vanities, and always known for that white suit.

Mr. Tom Wolf in that white suit, no matter where he went. Lou Reed, born in 1942,

passed away in 2013, would have been celebrating a birthday on Sunday. Seth has it in him that he

wants to do something a Lou Reed biopic or something. He wants me to play him. Yeah, you think

that's the only reason I don't know. Karen, Lou Reed, amazing singer, songwriter, cannot talk

about music without him. Karen Carpenter from the Carpenter's would have been celebrating a birthday,

born in 1950, passed away in 83, amazing musician, amazing musician, and a very difficult story,

but one that should be told and a great, great artist. And Dr. Seuss would have been celebrating

a birthday on Sunday, born in 1904. Green eggs and ham, cat and a hat. Horton, here's a who. So many

great ones. And you know what that means? Read across America week. Yes. That's right.

at uswac.org and Desi Arnez born in 1917, passed away in 1986. Ricky Ricardo, of course,

and I love Lucy. His company Desilu was a powerful studio that produced a number of hit TV

series, by the way, Star Trek, Mission Impossible. We wouldn't have gotten those without Desi and his

production company. They were the ones that bet on those shows. They did not, nobody else would

greenlight those shows. His production company was the only one that thought, oh, there might be

something to this Star Trek thing. Oh, there might be something to this mission impossible. Interesting.

Everybody celebrating birthdays or anniversaries. We wish you a great one. We encourage you to

celebrate with our friends at L. Cafe. And while you're celebrating, you can help them celebrate

their two-year anniversary. Head on over there and wish them a good two-year anniversary from all

of us here at WFHR. We come back. We got our chance for you to win some callvers coming up on our

star of the day here at WFHR. Lights, camera, action. It is time to make somebody a star of the day

with our friends from the Wisconsin Rapids callvers. What Terry and I are about to do is play a famous

TV theme song. If you know it, call up and add, you know, give us your answer. 715-424-2600.

Just a touch or two away in the Civic Media app. We encourage you to wait if you have one in

the last 30 days. We'd like to get new winners on here. We appreciate you doing that. Everybody,

our audience is great about that. We're going to play this for you right now. You're ready to call

up 715-424-2600. Tell us what TV show this is from.

Let's go ahead and see if we have ourselves a winner. Good morning. What's your answer?

W-K-R-P in Cincinnati. Nice job. I was wondering if someone was going to call before it gave it away.

You know before it actually said the call letters? Yeah, I was thankful for the call coming in right

when it did, sir. Thank you so much. Can I get your first name? Gary. Gary, thanks so much.

Where are you calling us from, Gary? Well, I'm here by Lake Wazitra. Oh, right on. Right on.

Rapids went on. Gary, we appreciate that. Were you a fan of the show, Gary?

Wazitra from 78 to 82. Right on. I did not see it in the reruns, of course,

but it was one of the more impactful shows that you could tell, probably, with my current job.

How much I enjoyed that show. It was a great show. Oh, man. Oh, I thought it was...

That's my name. Exactly. Thank you, Gary. That's exactly what we're doing.

If you could see how James is dressed, you'd know he was inspired by that.

Yes, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. That's the problem. The problem leader soon, you know?

So, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So good. Gary, thank you so much for listening and playing along.

Hang on a line. Gonna get a little information from you off air, but you're our newest star of the day.

Already. Thank you, Gary. Thank you. Appreciate you. So, yes, I appreciate Gary mentioning Howard

Hesman there, because this is part of what made me want to do this. Not only do we already

celebrating yesterday, we celebrated Howard Hesman's birthday. It would have been his birthday.

He's passed away, of course. But as I mentioned earlier in our birthday anniversary club,

we also want to celebrate Frank Bonner, who was herp on there, who would have been celebrating

birthday today. Just an iconic show. One of the very few TV shows I can say this about,

I'm a little surprised they haven't tried to redo this one. Like, I feel like I shouldn't say

that out loud, because then they probably will. And it'll be really bad. Yeah. But I'm a little

surprised. I think that one of the things that we've noticed that I think that TV has

wanted to stay away from is that radio is stayed quite relevant. And I don't I think that that

I think that in some ways that that is part of why you don't see a lot of radio TV shows anymore

and stuff. That that you ever saw a whole lot of them. There is always going to be this little

bit of a push and shove between TV and radio. It's just the way it is. I don't see why the two

can't work together more and all that. But regardless, I think that that's part of it. I do think

this is one of the few shows that if they did remake, they actually could do a good job with it.

They did it right, of course. But I don't know if that's ever going to happen. And I'm not sure

I wanted to be honest with you. I'll go back and watch the reruns of this one, Venus Flytrap

and all the great characters on that. My God, as God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

It's one of the greatest slides ever. It's one of the greatest. We'll be back next week with

another star of the day. We're going to talk to Gary and Terry and I will be back more fun here

on The Morning Show. Welcome back, everybody. Morning show here at WFHR, locally grown radio.

Little bit of the James Brown to play us in, live in America.

Terry and James here with you. We hope you're having a good one out there. Everybody got a

couple of interesting ones here for you to get to. I want to remind everybody of a story that

Melissa reminded me of. We've got a parade of planets tonight. Seven planets will be visible

in the night sky. Experts say the best time to look is right around dusk. You might only see

four or five. Saturn is pretty close to the sun right now and you need a telescope or binoculars

to see Uranus and Neptune. They call it a parade because they'll be lined up in the sky. It won't

happen again until 2040. Cool. On my list of things that, oh, I've got to buy this one day,

is a like one of those telescopes. The one that I'm looking at, you can hook it up to your phone

and you can take pictures of the sky. That's cool. It's amazing. One of our daughters wanted one

one year for her birthday and so we have that. It is neat. They're not even that expensive anymore.

It's not bad. You can go pick them up at the dollar store but they're not that expensive as I

thought. Oh, for sure. I made the mistake the other day. I'd never do this but between my sister

and my daughters and my staff around here, I have actually been thinking about, oh, you know,

vacation. We got spring creeping in and everything. People do that. Yes, I've heard of this.

I had to look it up again. You earn paid days and then you actually use them?

And I actually have that. And now I'm starting to hear it from my higher ups and everything that

you should use these days and stuff. So I, being me, couldn't just look at, hey, what's going on

in the state next to me or something like that? I thought, well, let's go ahead and start big

and then we'll work my way down. And the Galacobos Islands is something that I've always thought was

very fascinating, very interesting. And I think it'd be pretty cool. And while it is a ways away,

it's still, you know, this side of the equator and all that. And I thought that it'd be quite interesting.

And I just thought, well, let's just look at what packages are like, you know, how much could

that cost? It can't be that bad. Oh, dear God. Oh, so you're passing? Yeah, yeah. No, no,

that ain't happening for a while. I got that kind of money. I don't like it. You better start

putting away some pennies each paycheck. So someday you can do it. Yes. No, that's a great point.

You're absolutely right now. Yeah. Throw aside 25 bucks or whatever so that you can pile it up.

But you should, you know, you don't have to go somewhere when you take a vacation day. I mean,

you should because you never go anywhere. But you, but you can just take a day off. You're right.

Right. I had something I got to look into. Maybe next year. No, no, no, you're absolutely right.

I'm listening. I have listened. No, you're not. I truly have. I truly have. Okay, you might be,

you know, you're hearing, but you're not. Yeah, yeah. The chances of that asteroid hitting us in

2032 have dropped to basically zero according to NASA. There is that slimmest of chances that it

could hit our moon. But they're more worried, not more worried, but they are just, it's just as

likely that it hits the moon's atmosphere. And, you know, that still could do some things. We are,

we are in such a unique spot. And, and if we move a couple of inches this way and a couple

inches that way, it really changes everything for us. So any of this stuff could be effective,

but they're not, you know, the smartest minds out there are not worrying about this. I don't think

that we have to worry about it. Yeah, right. There's enough to worry about. Just in case, can we

make sure that Bruce Willis is ready to go if we need him? I mean, I like that movie. I'm

again, was fine. I thought it was fine. It's Steve Bussemi. It's fine with me. I have no problem with

that. People that go into that movie. And like, I've seen actual people that I like to hear talk

about science and stuff and they get all bent out of shape. Well, actually, this could never happen.

It's a movie. What do you do? Thanks. That was pretty good.

Story that I just want to touch on because I encourage you guys to do some homework on this one,

just because I think it's interesting. But if you guys don't, then you don't have to. But

in animal news, wolves may have actually domesticated themselves.

Oh, over 30,000 years ago, when wolves started becoming well, wolves turning into dogs and

domestication of that animal. They basically just like getting treats from us. And people alongside

fires, and wolves would come by smelling that food. And they would just give a look to these

people. And the people would realize, Oh, this animal doesn't want to hurt me. It's just hungry.

Or they were feeling for their life. And they were like, Oh, if I just throw them this little

bone, right? Throw them this piece of meat. They won't eat me. We've all heard the phrase,

you know, or seen some sign or something like that. You feed the animals. You're never going to

get rid of it. That kind of thing. It started somewhere. This is where it started. That phrase,

that saying is this. And for a long time, most people thought we brought these animals into our homes.

It's sounding more and more like the wolves kind of like just didn't really, they just didn't

even, they just came in. Like we didn't even invite them in or anything. We went from campfires

to fires indoors. And the wolves followed us. And we didn't kick them out. It's just very

interesting. The dynamic here and how this evolved and how it came to be. Let's talk about cats.

Same. That's like, well, cats have been domesticated much longer. You go back to Egypt and some of

it. Hey, I figured you can do that one. But that's an interesting story. I encourage you to find out

more about it. You can at LiveScience.com. LiveScience.com has a wonderful article about this one,

about the domestication of all this and really how it just comes down to snacks. I mean,

it really all comes down to treats, which tells us 30,000 years later, nothing has changed.

Dogs are still all about their treats. I mean, they love them. There's something about snacks.

I don't blame them. I'm 100% worth about that. I'm into. And I wanted to make sure we got time

for this one, Terry. You know, kind of continuing our NAP series. We have this one of the six

six steps for a perfect NAP. Six steps. We went over kind of tips for a good NAP last weekend.

Now we're going over this one. According to research, these are the six steps. It takes to have a

perfect NAP. So you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go with the purpose of a NAP.

Set it on alarm. You only need 20 to 25 minutes. That's the perfect amount of time. You sleep longer.

You'll slip into deep sleep and feeling groggy after. Listen, that is completely contradictory to

what we talked about last week. 54 minutes was the NAP time. I've adjusted my alarm clock from 25

minutes to 54 minutes. And I look at this. And the funny part of this, it's coming from the same

sources too. So that's it. Maybe they were NAP. Maybe they were sleeping on the job. They slept

through. They slept through it. NAP at the same time each day early is better. So it won't keep you

up at night. But it's hard during the week to if you have one of those, you know, in one

day of the job or something like that. But if you are not, I think that, you know, retirement,

this is a good idea. Or maybe you get home at like three o'clock and you can catch a few

Z's and refresh before dinner. I don't know. And the thing that they say the same time each day,

does that mean that you have to take a NAP a day? Wow. I mean, I could totally do that. All powered

to anybody who can or is doing that. I just that saying that. I'm not. But I could shut the

blinds and turn off the lights. You'll sleep better that way. It's also best if you don't have the

TV on. I never do that. I don't have a TV in my bedroom. But in an Al Namp on the couch. But

honestly, I kind of don't mind just curling up on the I don't crawl in my bed. Just lay on the

top of it, maybe with like a throw blanket. And I do not darken the windows because for me,

I feel like I wake up quick quicker after 54 minutes. But you know what I mean versus if it was

dark, I might just snooze that alarm and keep going. Everybody's different. I think the same

thing about the TV. Some people like by Nana had to have some sound. She had to have something.

I'm not a white noiser. She was such a city girl. She couldn't her first, I'd say, 10 years

here living in the wrong. Yeah, it was too quiet for. Let's take a call. Good morning. You're on

the show. Terry, Terry, Terry, what am I going to do with you? You tell such lies.

We know that at about noon, probably you'd probably stay upstairs because you know the way

you really want to walk upstairs by you in your office with your feet up there. I mean,

for 54 minutes. I mean, if I could, but there are other people that have offices up there. So

I'd probably get outed pretty quick or I'd fall off my chair. Terry's got one of those masks

that has her eyes open. Oh, that'd be awesome. And I mask with eyeballs on it. If somebody could

hustle me one of those, that would be great. Keb, with all three of our jobs, there isn't really a

real opening for taking maps. Yeah, there's no real nap time for this. I think I think Terry's

got an easier opening than you and I. Mike, Mike, Mike, I feel like the audience is definitely going

to know if I'm taking a nap. I feel like you guys are definitely going to pick up on that one.

If not, then I really need to look into a different light of work. I am not doing my job.

If you guys would not even notice that I just conke out over here. You know, it's funny about that.

Like I, I like naps and it's not even necessary. I mean, sometimes it is to get the rest

and because I'm tired, but it's it's not even like I just like that downtime. Yeah, you know,

like on a on a weekend day or something, I don't, I don't on a busy day or if I have plans,

like I'm not sitting there going, oh, I'm tired. I need a nap. But if I'm home, I'm like,

I'm taking a net, like I'm building that in in the morning. I'm like, when's my nap going to be?

Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. It's just a good reset time. So it's, you know, like it's like,

I don't even feel like it's because I'm tired. It's more because I just want to chill a little bit.

I look at that, whether it's reading or just like zoning out on a TV show or a sports show that

I like, pardon me, interruption or something like that. And it's not like I'm watching it to

the net. I like the show, but it's it's just I can tune out. Like you just check out a little bit. Yeah. Yeah.

That's as close as I get to a nap. Kevin, we'd prefer you didn't do that while you're driving. Yeah,

you could. Yeah, no, that's not a good thing. You know, but the thing is, I really, it's hard for me

to take naps because when I wake up, sometimes I take it on that, I feel like crud. Like more tired

than when you lay down. Yes. Yeah. And it's just like, well, but I have to, if I do take a nap,

I have to because I won't be sleeping as heavy. You know, if you have a TV on or the radio on. Yeah.

I probably don't sleep as heavy, but if I say, I'm going to go into the bedroom and I play on bed

and I wake up an hour later. I mean, I take, why did I even take a nap? Because I feel like even more late.

Yeah. Well, the sweet spot is 54 minutes.

The man get at extra six minutes might have got me. I mean, I think so. I think I put you into deep sleep

and then you just couldn't get out of it. It's been that good. Maybe it's practicing this weekend,

everybody in cap and safe travels out there, Kev. We appreciate hearing from you, man.

All right. You guys have a great week. Yeah. Don't be sending me messages at noon. Okay.

Have a good one, brother. Safe travels out there. And save that voice. I might need you on playmakers

tonight. I got a solo show tonight on playmakers. I'm going to be by myself. So I want all you callers

and call. You just, you seriously just gave him free reign. And you, you call it too. Your sports

takes some thoughts. Yeah. I want you to be too. Number four on this list, take a nap in an

actual bed, like falling asleep on the couch, which is kind of my thing or a chair or the floor.

I'll be, this happens to be I'll be petting Sam, my, my fur brother on the floor or something like

that. And I'll bring my laptop down there. And then I wake up like an hour later or whatever.

So I don't, I don't know. I may take naps. I just don't plan them. My, my body just decides,

hey, you know, hey, brain, you can go ahead and do whatever you want. But we're shutting down.

Like you can go ahead and keep going if you want to. But we're, we're done for right now.

We're, we're taking, we're taking the time out. I get it. And I do, I think that the bed part is,

this adds to part of what you were saying. And I think what I was, I was trying to pick you back

on a little bit of even if you can't take a nap, just having some downtime, just kind of un,

you know, uncharging or, you know, recharging a little bit. And then, and I think a bed kind of

helps you be more, just plain more comfortable. I mean, yeah, that's what I was going to say.

Maybe you just don't get all, you know, kind of cramped up or, you know, sometimes you fall asleep

in the chair and then your neck is sore. Oh my God. I mean, can, could you imagine if you were as

old as Kevin? Yeah. I mean, you, you would really be like having some, some uncomfortable spots.

It's something that I, I'm very conscious of. I don't want to just be blunt. I don't want to be

hunched over at the, as I get older or anything like that. My posture's bad. So I've been trying

to really work on it a lot the last five, 10 years or whatever. But my dad is a great note of this

because he always had good posture, but he's doing that now where he's, he's falling asleep in the

chair and he's, he's in a horrible position and he's wonder wise neck's hurting. Like you got to

stop it. Get this quiet as possible, meaning no TV, no music and sort of that. And busy streets can

be an issue. So sometimes that one can be a little difficult. And finally, buy some incense or any

air freshener that smells like lavender. A study few years ago found people slept better and felt

more alert if they fell asleep and at the smell of lavender. Plus you'll start associating it with

sleep. So you'll fall asleep better. So bath and body works has this really awesome, like a mist

that you spray like on your sheets and pillows like you do. Like it's just a little kind of a

spritz thing. It doesn't make a wet. It's just a, you know, real light mist. And it's, there's

a lavender, one of the scents. There's a few different ones, but one of them is a lavender, vanilla

lavender. And it is heavenly. That does sound good. It's nice. Sounds all right. Hmm. The

quiet part and the, this part, the smell part, all of these really are, are case by case. And you

got to adapt this stuff to what works for you. But I do think these are pretty good tips. I

think it seems like a good idea. I might try this. I might bite. You won't. You should. Because you

don't sleep well. Absolutely. I absolutely should. But yeah, I don't know. And now I wondered,

now you mentioned a sleep thing. That's what I was going to kind of lean into a little bit here.

I wonder if this can help people like me that do have to struggle falling asleep. Maybe I can use

these, you know, I can cheat a little bit and use some of these. Not just little napping. Yeah,

I wonder. It might be worth trying. Regardless, for you out there, I think it's definitely worth

trying. And whatever it is to focus on your sleep, it goes a lot farther than I think we realize

if you're able to focus on that and encourage you to do so. I mean, or just keep burning the

candle at both ends. Let's be real. You know, I mean, I'm not going to. It's kind of what we do.

I, I, yeah. I feel like I do. I do absolutely. I do. 100%. I mean, the next time Kevin comes

by my office, I'm for sure faking an app. You have to. You kind of have to. In fact, I would

want to know how long you can keep that going. But the other newsflashes, I don't get an

app during the day. Right. During the work day. I don't, you know, I would love to know how many

people out there actually do, like get a consistent name, not even every day. But like, what do you,

how many of you out there get one or two a week? You know, they're, yeah. And there's some companies

out there that one mostly, I think you're being companies that offer like you, there's like

napping rooms. Oh, yeah. But I don't know if you've ever heard of Epic. It's a big software

company. But that amount isn't like they have nap rooms. Actually, if you need, if you need to

rest, you go rest. My brother in law, Mac works for Epic. I can ask him about that.

Crazy. That's interesting. We'll be back with more show coming up.
