Good morning, Wisconsin.
Morning, world.
It's a new day.
Thanks for kicking it off with us at WFHR.
Got your host, James behind the mic.
I am joined by our head of news, our co-host, Melissa K.
Good morning.
Head of production and co-host, Seth Habhacker.
Good morning.
And the best listeners and radio.
Happy Friday, everybody.
Thanks so much for joining us.
Let's kick things off the way we like to.
With our good friend, Brittany Merlot.
Good morning, Britt.
Good morning.
How are you guys doing?
Doing good over here.
How are you doing?
I'm so giddy happy with your watch, you know.
I knew you were trying to hold it in, Brittany.
I just tell.
You know, I appreciate it.
We have a lot of unbiased journalism around here.
I appreciate that Brittany is just up front.
Just an up front journalist going to let you know she loves the snow.
I'm going to let...
I appreciate that, Brittany.
We need more of that transparency in our journal a little bit.
I appreciate you as well, Brittany.
My mom heard your forecast yesterday.
And her and I have been waiting for a chance to have a weekend where we're stuck indoors
and we can really focus and lock in on my Nana's old sauce and the recipe for that.
We're going to spend Sunday afternoon doing that.
We're going to be working on it.
It comes from basil, comes from right from the whole country.
Wow.
And we have like bits and pieces of it.
We are basically my mother and I are going to be Nicholas Cage in national treasure.
We're just basically trying to put together all these different things to see if we can figure it out.
And that all happened listening to your forecast.
So she knew we were going to be indoors this weekend.
Oh, that warms my heart.
Honestly, that sounds like such an adorable activity and take me some, maybe?
Yes, you got it, you got it.
Definitely, definitely.
I would definitely plan to stay in tomorrow afternoon if you can.
Otherwise, you know, it's going to be a lighter kind of snow that accumulates all through a long period of time.
I mean, this is going to start moving in overnight, probably definitely by 5 a.m.
it's going to be coming down.
We'll probably be waking up to one to two inches in the morning hours and then as we go through the late morning,
that's what it's going to ramp up where we could see another good two to four inches come down in that time frame.
I'm going to kind of put her patterns out and leave by five.
So 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., a good 12 hour event to get four to seven inches.
It's going to take a little bit.
The roads are going to be pretty terrible.
It is going to be a lighter, fluffier type of snow as well.
So perfect for snow angels.
Harder to pack for the snowball fights, unfortunately, kids.
But, you know, it's going to be beautiful.
Everything is opening up.
The snowmobile trails all up north are going to be open.
Actually, they're opening today.
It's ski trails and it's just going to be a winter wonderland.
And then glad to come the weekend so we don't have to battle it trying to go to it from work.
Yeah.
You have to be careful shoveling it.
Take your time.
Shovel and shift.
Be careful.
Pay attention to your body.
If you start sweating, it's below freezing.
You shouldn't be sweating.
I mean, time for a break.
Good call.
Really good stuff there.
I encourage anybody if you can get one of those shovels that are the bent shovels.
Those really are game changers.
They really are difference maker.
And it's funny that you mentioned kids about snowball fighting because all I can think of is my father.
All I can think is as soon as we're out shoveling, he waits for me to turn my back and just pull.
He'll hit me.
He'll try at least.
It'll be fluffy this time.
Yeah.
There we go.
We're that much more prepared thanks to you, Brittany.
You have a safe fun and weekend.
Enjoy the snow.
We'll talk again on Monday.
So good.
See you later.
Have a good weekend.
You too, Brittany.
Best in the business right there.
Brittany and we're low going to be joining us again on Monday.
We got good stuff for you.
The whole couple of hours here.
Not only are we going to be celebrating El Café, birthday and anniversary club for today, Saturday and Sunday.
We got Super Bowl commercials to go over.
We're going to get into that.
We got our star the day from our friends from callvers.
That's coming up in a little bit.
We'll get into, of course, we get some entertainment news to kick off the 9 o'clock hour.
Not only going to get into a study that says music might be getting worse.
We're talking about that.
The old people are finally getting right.
We all have to use our old grumpy voices when we do that segment.
What's new on your small screen, new on your big screen, and new on your local theater stage.
We will get into all of those things as well.
And I've got a couple of other fun ones we'll get into.
We'll see what we have time for.
But of course, it is the 8 AM hour.
Music cue.
We are going to go ahead and have some fun because we got to love on the air.
Everybody.
Yeah.
We got this fun new contest we are doing that we are having a blast with Melissa.
Seth and I are just excited for this one.
What we're doing is making your valentines a little bit better.
A little bit better.
We can't do certain things.
We are not a dating app.
We are not.
Thank God.
Oh, come on.
We are.
Okay, be on the lookout for that.
Maybe that will be an extension.
Oh, boy.
Maybe it'll be a business opportunity for the three of us.
We'll see.
I need a date for valentines.
Okay.
We'll see.
All the more reason to create the app.
All right.
We'll get on that.
We'll see what happens.
I do feel like all the good app names have been taken, though.
I do feel like we're going to have to work out that.
They're getting out there now.
They're getting some really weird names for those.
Well, you don't have to worry about that.
We can make sure that you have a good valentine stay.
Whether you are celebrating your first of many or your one of many.
Or your loan.
And you're not as celebrating with anybody.
We're going to make sure it's a good one.
Thanks to our great friends in performing arts center.
We're giving us two tickets of bachelor's on Broadway.
I love ink with a gift card.
A mission coffee house with the ultimate dinner date.
Amethyst Rising's got a personal style package of full circle massage.
From full circle.
Honest cranberries.
Got some nice cranberries to give you.
Paul grossed your layers with a beautiful bracelet.
And dance with dignity DJ's got a nice gift card for you as well.
Along with some services.
We're doing all this thanks to all of them.
And of course, quality plus printing and wham incorporated.
Our friends over at party envy.
And our tech sponsors over here at WFHR Johnson & Sons Jeep.
Nice.
What we're doing is giving you a keyword at the top of the 8 AM and 10 AM hours.
And then at noon and at 2 o'clock you text us that keyword through the Civic Media app.
And just like that you get a chance to win.
Wow.
That is an incredible package you guys.
It is incredible.
It's some, we're really proud of this one.
Fantastic.
Great work Ashley.
I got to say this could be our biggest prize package we've ever had.
I think so.
And I want to send a big shout out yes to Ashley, to Jacqueline, to Chuck,
to all the hardworking people behind the scenes on this one.
Jenna, great job.
So many people that helped with this.
Yeah, we're very, very appreciative of them.
They've all worked really hard on this one.
And we appreciate that.
So I think I have dragged this on long enough.
You're waiting for that keyword.
They are James, but I have to say because this is such a big package.
I got a little contention with the words.
I mean, they're so long that they can fight me to Benjamin really.
Yeah.
You know what?
Let's do it.
Wait for me to Benjamin.
Let's go with that.
Let's go with red.
How about that?
Your keyword for this hour red.
Oh, there you go.
Nice and easy.
R-E-D.
No, I didn't have to look at that one.
I knew that one.
Nice.
Your word to text to us is red.
Go ahead and text that to us right now.
Everybody pull up that civic media app.
If you have not already downloaded the app, now's the perfect time to do it.
Go to your app store.
Download it.
And you got an hour to do so.
You got the whole hour here.
Text us that keyword red and get in on the winning.
A big thank you again to everybody playing along.
And who has already downloaded the civic media app.
Yes.
And I would just put out there.
If you text invited me to Benjamin, you are my people.
Yeah.
There you go.
We also will get that word out there again before the end of the hour.
I'll get that word red out there again before the end of the hour.
Super Bowl is right around the corner.
And according to a new survey, 55% of people say that the Monday
after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday.
The idea is that everyone is exhausted and hung over from all the festivities.
And that's a real thing.
A study from a few years ago back found that people are generally
much less productive the day after the Super Bowl.
Okay.
There are other distractions for some people,
like trying to focus on work after a riveting game
and let down to realizing your football season is over.
It's also a Monday which has its own bag, 41% of people say that
Monday after the Super Bowl is one of the worst Mondays of the year.
Wow.
And there are also a few alternatives that the NFL could consider,
like moving the Super Bowl to Saturday or pushing it back a week or so
so it lines up a president's day.
They're pushing it back.
Yeah, right.
Yeah.
Because that's what we need.
If anybody hasn't understood this already, the NFL is looking to take over your whole year.
If they can.
Yeah.
And they are not going to stop.
They're already talking about an 18th game.
Even though the players Union doesn't want it.
They're looking to get their, they'll settle for making it to president's day.
But they're looking to make it to an Easter.
And I'm not even exaggerating.
So the idea that they can have fun with this idea as far as like,
should the Super Bowl be a national holiday blah blah blah all this?
Why?
They're just going to keep extending the season.
You're just going to have to make another new national holiday and all that.
And as a, and I say this as somebody who eats leaps and breeds this sport and loves this sport.
I know also not everybody likes the sport.
Not everybody cares.
That's right.
There's going to be plenty of people that are going to be asleep before the fourth quarter even starts.
Like, you know, I, I feel like this, this is a thing that we do a lot in our society that I'm very confused by
where a, a actual smaller percentage of people seem to have the loudest voice and be in, and we,
and they're the ones we talk to and listen to.
Yeah.
There, there is a lot going on right now where we've turned the bullying around where the majority is now acting like they're the ones that are like in the,
they're the victims and they're, they're, you know, hurting all this and everything.
And oh, God, what, what about us and blah blah blah?
Like, we're, we're seeing the same thing with this.
And again, I am somebody who is going to be eat sleeping, breathing these Super Bowl and I'll be back at work on Monday like every Sunday.
That's the, that's life.
Like, if you don't like it, then go to sleep early.
You know what I mean?
It's not like you can't, you're not going to find out who won the game.
Like, oh my God, who won that game?
You know, it's, it's Monday afternoon and you don't, you're still waiting to find out or something.
Or take a vacation day.
Yeah.
If you're able, if you're able to do that, yeah.
If you're able to, sure.
I think the Saturday one actually would make more sense to me than you have a whole day on Sunday.
Yeah, it's just because it's Super Bowl Sunday.
Maybe, I don't know.
Super Bowl Saturday.
Like, they can make a whole thing about it.
They, I mean, they pretty much do.
Yeah, they do.
The pregame for the end of football has already started.
Like, I'm pretty sure that for pregame.
Yeah.
Yeah, what time is it?
Yeah, right.
I mean, I know we talked about this earlier in the week, but again, you bringing it up today was like, oh yeah, the Super Bowl.
So that's the one that's why I'm here.
I give zero cares.
And I edited my word there about the Super Bowl.
This year, you're not alone.
There's a lot of people that are saying they don't care about the Super Bowl.
There's a lot of people saying that they're not going to watch the big game a lot of it.
You're going to watch and you can't.
Not you, Melissa.
The talk about these people.
Those people that say, no, I'm not watching the Super Bowl this year.
Oh, I thought you were going to force me to James.
No.
We were about to get into fist cuts.
No, I would never do that.
Yeah.
I do, I do think that one other side of this though, if you do want to look at both sides of this, the economic impact that this has and how gigantic that is.
And if they wanted to lean towards that and understanding of that and hey, that Monday off is because we need time to prepare this, this, and this or whatever.
I would get it if it was work related.
If it's just another day off, there are, I don't know that there are many industries that can afford to take a Monday off after the Super Bowl.
I would say for business owners, especially small business owners, that would not be helpful.
Right.
I will say if we're all going to work as much as our politicians are, then sure, why not shake the Monday off?
I mean, why not?
Let's go ahead.
Two days, three days a month.
That's good.
Yeah.
If all we're going to do is be working those hours, we'll shoot.
Okay.
Yeah.
That's how we're talking.
Yeah.
Let's take today off to next year, on the Friday before the Super Bowl.
We can need time to prepare.
I don't even know what I'm going to prepare yet.
I need Friday to prepare for that and then Monday to recover.
I need to prepare Saturday to go shopping and cook.
Yeah.
That's right.
Good point.
Yeah.
And then all the festivities on Sunday and they go, yeah, you need a day off.
And you've got to clean your house if you have people coming over.
Yeah.
I mean, it's just all this work.
It's all this work for the game.
I'm telling you.
I don't know.
And if they really wanted to do this a certain way, lining it up for president's day and then
having president's day off, that makes a little more sense.
It does.
That makes a little more, but I don't know.
I don't know.
It keeps their own.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think Melissa had the key idea here.
If you're fortunate and you have days off at work or paid days off or anything like that,
there you go.
Take it.
There's your answer.
You know, you can have fun Sunday night.
You've got your Monday already covered.
And just don't do a no call no show because that's just not nice.
Yeah.
You got co-workers.
If you work alone, maybe that I guess that's one thing, but if you've got great work.
I'm going to call myself and tell myself I'm not coming in.
I'm not coming in today.
I don't know.
I'm just not doing it.
I don't know about you guys, but I've worked a couple of jobs where people called off the
Monday after the Super Bowl and it sucks.
Like you're there.
You're there.
Yeah.
Don't do that.
Don't do that.
Yeah.
By the way, quick note to the NFL.
Stop using Roman numerals.
Yeah.
Yeah.
As we are now on Super Bowl.
L-I-X.
Yeah.
It's Super Bowl lick.
Lix.
Lix.
Super Bowl lick.
It's going to be that again next year.
It is.
Lix.
Super Bowl Lix.
We will be talking about Super Bowl Lix.
And plenty more when we come back after the L.K.F.A. birthday and anniversary club in our star,
the day from Culver's all coming up here on the morning show.
We sure are.
You heard the boys.
It's time for the L.K.F.A.
Birthday and anniversary club brought to you by our great friends over at L.K.F.A.
Treat yourself.
Get on over to 221 Market Avenue.
Beautiful, poor Edwards.
Yeah.
Got a Friday, Saturday and Sunday to celebrate here.
And we are going to have some fun doing it.
Be sure to celebrate with our friends at L.K.F.A.
Got some great specials going on over there.
And keep in mind they got that becoming more and more famous Friday fish fry over there.
Yeah.
And if you don't follow them on Facebook, you should.
Because they are so funny.
Today they got a picture of all of them fishing.
I love it.
They are all fishing.
It's great.
I am such a sucker for the...
I am showing it to Senna right now.
It's amazing.
I am such a sucker for the...
I don't know what you call it.
Superimposed or the cropping of pigs.
Right, right.
Yeah.
And it's very obvious.
You know, they just put the heads on other bodies.
Yeah, it's very funny.
Better fishing on a dog.
It's great.
I love it.
That's what I like, Melissa.
I like how...
When it's more and more obvious.
I love that.
I love that.
When they put two different raced people together already and these kind of things.
I love it.
I can't get enough of that.
It's hilarious to me.
Good stuff.
They got a great sense of humor.
They are the great people over there.
The only thing that tops the prices, the menu, the food is the people.
Go ahead and visit our friends at El Café today.
221 Market Avenue and Beautiful Port Edwards.
Give it up until late.
Yeah.
Keep that in mind.
Get us those birthdays and anniversaries.
Everybody, we want to celebrate with you.
Email us info at WFHR.com.
You can of course direct messages on our Facebook pages and you call up.
715-424-2600.
Looking forward to hanging out with you, everybody.
Feel sure to call us.
Join the conversation.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
Taking a look at our list, we have just one name for today.
But we do have two possible qualifiers for tomorrow.
So I need a one or a two Melissa.
One.
All right.
Thank you for that.
And we need a one or a two for Sunday, Seth.
Two.
I knew you would pick that.
Yeah.
There we go.
It's a 50 chance.
Yep.
It's a quick one.
First up, we want to wish a very happy birthday to our qualifier today.
Kathy Wenger.
Happy birthday, Kathy.
Happy birthday, Kathy.
Enjoy the day, Kathy, wishing you a good one.
And on Saturday, we have two birthdays to celebrate for three of them.
Actually, first up, we want to wish a very happy birthday to our great friend, Mike Comer.
Happy birthday, Mike.
Happy birthday, Mike.
Michael is a newer voice that we've had.
We've been able to use here on our airwaves.
You've heard during playmakers.
You hear him calling of a lot of our local high school sports.
Yep.
Hi.
He is the voice of our River Kings for 2024-25.
Yep.
And of course, I add to our newsletter.
Yes.
He is our official sports reporter.
He's doing a fabulous show.
Yep.
He writes up an article every week that covers kind of a bit of everything, really.
But focuses on local sports really in depth.
He really, I mean, he's really good at covering as much as he can.
Wow, it's really remarkable.
And a good guy.
And a good guy.
We love working with Michael.
Love having him a part of the team.
And really appreciate the work he puts into our local high school sports.
And covering it better than anybody that we have.
And certainly anybody in the area.
Yeah.
There's some great people.
I shot out to Gene Delicio and some of the great voices and people around this area.
But I don't know anybody doing what Michael is doing to Cess Point.
And we appreciate that.
We put him to work a lot around here.
And he's been working hard for us.
We have a great day, man.
And you can help him out too by reading our articles through our newsletter.
And then clicking on the links at the bottom to head over to his website and like it.
And visit that too, because he does updates there as well.
It puts up a great lot of information there.
A lot of good stuff over there.
I kind of, we've talked about this off-air a bit.
But we kind of, the newsletter, what he covers there.
What he can't, we kind of cover on playmakers.
And then the rest he has on his website.
Yeah.
And pretty much so much.
Especially the coverage he's been doing with there.
And recently announced retirement of Coach Biola.
I'll be sure to check out that.
And enjoy your day.
We'll talk to Michael a little bit later on playmakers.
He usually calls in on Fridays.
Yep.
Awesome.
And as long as we're talking sports and this and covering sports in this area.
It's only fitting that we mentioned as well.
Tomorrow's birthday.
Mr. Bob look.
Oh, I haven't been back.
I haven't been back.
Now I thought I had Bob's birthday on Sunday.
I'm going to trust Pam on this one.
She's much smarter than I am.
She knows this stuff.
But either way, for Saturday, Sunday, Bob,
a original voice here in Wisconsin Rapids for many years.
Covering all high school sports in this area for many years.
You know, we're very fortunate.
We have like a Randy.
We've had Dave Mueller.
Michael himself that we were just talking about.
Guys can cover multiple sports.
Yes.
But I really feel like those guys are all good at that.
Bob is just a natural addict.
Like nobody I've ever heard.
When I got back into radio, it was to cover high school sports.
And I did a games for Bob, all Bob's games.
That's right.
And I heard him cover every sport.
And I would sit there and just be blown away.
Like every sport he was able to cover and do very well.
Bob has dedicated so much of his life to radio.
And we appreciate that.
The work that he put into this station and keeping this station alive
and running for many years.
And certainly his work with the Wisconsin Badgers and other teams.
And just on a personal note, when I moved back to this town,
I didn't have work.
And I wanted back in radio.
And one of the toughest things in this business to do
is to leave the business and try to get back in.
Yeah.
The door shuts on you.
Bob opened it up for me.
And I came back to just run some high school sports
for maybe at the most 10 hours a week I would get.
And he took a chance on me with the morning show
and I've been doing it ever since.
I don't know if I'd be back in radio without him.
I appreciate that very much from him.
And looking forward to hearing him real soon on these radio waves
because Chad Holmes is going to be doing the broadcast
Wasaw West versus our Lincoln high school boys hockey team
from Wasaw next Tuesday.
And Bob look is going to join him for the call.
He is.
Bob is celebrating 50 years in broadcasting.
And Chad will have Bob join him for the first and third periods.
And the second period, Bob's going to call solo.
Which is really, it's going to be a lot of fun.
We will be carrying that game on W.I.R.I.
Yeah.
You sure to join us for that on Tuesday.
I know that I'm going to be locked into it.
I have a class that night.
And I don't care.
I'm going to be locked into that.
I'm going to be listening as much as I can.
Happy birthday to you, Mr. Look.
And our qualifier for set.
All that said Bob didn't qualify.
Yeah.
No, he can't.
He used to be able to not anymore.
We do want to wish a happy birthday on Saturday
to our qualifier, Tara Cook.
Happy birthday, Tara.
Happy birthday, Tara.
Have a great day, Tara.
And then on Sunday we wish a very happy birthday to Joe Zurfloo.
Happy birthday, Joe.
Happy birthday, Joe.
Joe, Joe doing a great job in our community.
Putting a lot into our community.
Protecting our community.
We appreciate you for that, Mr. Enjoy your day, Joe.
And our qualifiers for a Sunday celebrating their 40th anniversary.
Bob and Linda Garsky.
40th anniversary.
Bob and Linda Garsky.
40th anniversary.
Oh.
Bob and Linda.
Oh, congratulations, guys.
Congratulations, guys.
I wish them a great one.
Yeah.
We're gigantic fans of them around here.
We are.
And I think you can say maybe the best laugh you'll ever hear
is Linda Garsky's.
You always know where she's up there.
She's there, yep.
Enjoy your anniversary or your two.
You're our qualifiers for today.
Nice.
For Sunday.
We take a quick look at our weekend birthdays for celebrities.
Taking a look at Saturday birthdays for today.
Chris Rock is 60.
Really?
Yeah.
Doesn't look it.
No, no.
He looks, yeah, I don't know how he does it.
Man is agent very well.
Yes, he is.
Yeah.
Another great stand of comedian.
Eddie Isert is 63.
Haha.
That same generation of comics.
Yeah.
Amazing.
Amazing.
You might know Eddie as an actor from the Ocean's 11
and 13 movies.
Yeah.
He's also done quite a few guest roles on different things
throughout the years.
But Eddie Isert is one of my all-time favorite stand of comedians.
One because I love, like Chris Rock,
I love these guys that came from the George Carlin School of Comedy
where they don't have to dumb down comedy.
Right.
Eddie Isert really wanted to be an actor,
but got in the comedy to kind of give him a break.
But he started to do something in his stand-up routine
that you see comics do all the time now where he do,
you know, Richard Pryor did this to a little bit
where he would have a character, red bone,
these kind of characters.
And he would transform into that character on stage
and be that person.
Eddie Isert would have conversations with that character
as Eddie Isert.
So he would literally like be standing on the right side
and then go to the left side to deliver the line.
Doesn't seem like a big deal,
but people weren't really doing this before.
Eddie Isert started this trend where now you see all kinds
like Neil Brennan with his three mics routine
and some of those.
Eddie Isert is also a cross-dresser.
And unabashedly.
And it has very little to do with his comedy.
It is just a part of who he is.
And I love that about him.
I love that not only has he brought that so upfront,
but that he's been able to have an incredible career
and there are people that are fans of his
that have no idea about this about him.
It's just something I think he's mastered very well.
He goes by the name Susan now, Susie.
And I got to see him at the United Center once.
And we were told beforehand
that announcer comes over the PA.
Mr. Isert is sick.
So the show may be court short tonight.
We apologize.
He comes out there and gives two hours.
Two hours of nothing but new material
or some new material.
The hits that we all love.
Is that so you can't plot a flag.
Cake or death.
If you want an example,
I cannot encourage you enough to look up either the cantina scene.
Was Eddie Isert the cantina scene?
Or Eddie Isert cake or death?
It is one of the funniest things you'll ever hear.
I swear to you.
I love it.
Great stuff.
James Spader is 65 today.
The Blacklist, Avengers, Boston Legal, the office.
One of our 80s guys.
Yes.
What a career that man has had.
Wow.
Robert Smigel is 65.
He is Triumph, the insult comic dog.
Also a long time writer for SNL.
Conan Schoen and so many other things.
He was Conan's writing partner for many many years.
Yeah.
I love him.
And some people no longer with us.
Laura Ingalls Wilder born in 1867.
Children's author, of course, of Little House on the Prairie.
Melissa Gilbert played her on the show, I believe.
Yes, she did.
Yes.
And one classic author shares it with another classic author,
Charles Dickens.
Oh.
Wow.
Good company.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Christmas Carol and, of course, so many others.
Oh, yes.
Then we take a quick look at Saturday, Birthdays.
I got a couple to mention for Saturday.
First up, I want to wish a happy birthday to Seth Green, 51 on Saturday.
Yay.
Famous Seth.
Yay, Seth.
Yes.
There's not many of us, you know.
Austin Powers movie, Oz on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
The Voice of Chris and Family Guy, co-creator of Robot Chicken.
Yeah.
I really like Seth Duck.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm a big fan of Seth Green.
Me too.
I think he's great.
I think that he's gotten to do more than just comedy, though, you know.
Yeah.
He's done the Italian job.
He was an it.
Yeah.
He was great in the Italian job.
And I know it's a silly dumb movie, but I liked him in idle hands.
And he was in a movie called Party Monster.
And I believe it's his only serious work.
And remember that.
And I saw that movie and he does it with McCulley Culkin.
And everybody at the time was talking about McCulley Culkin's performance,
but I came out of it like, oh dang.
Seth Green can do drama.
Like he can do drama.
And I made the prediction with my friends sitting around at like midnight.
And well, Seth Green is going to get nominated for an Oscar one day.
That's going to happen.
It hasn't happened.
It hasn't happened yet.
He's got more of the comedy route.
And it's really hard to get Oscar nominees that way.
Yeah.
But I really feel like if he gets a chance, he can do more serious work.
One of my favorite roles of all time was a very early guest spot on the ex files in the first season.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
He plays kind of a stoner guy.
It's hilarious.
It's awesome.
Ted Coppel will be 85 tomorrow.
Wow.
One of our great journalists.
And John Williams is 93 tomorrow.
Tomorrow.
There are a few, you know, categories where we could say that is the greatest of all time.
No question.
You know, you have debates about this all the time.
John Williams is the greatest composer of all time.
Yeah.
Like there's no getting around that.
No composing.
No question about it.
Anything you want to counter with that, I will counter simply with the number 54.
That is how many nominations he has had 54 Academy Award nominations.
Wow.
Holds the record for the most Oscar nominations for a living person.
Oh, and he's won five times.
He's also won 26 Grammy Awards, three Emmys, four Golden Globes, Star Wars, Harry Potter,
Indiana Jones, ET Close Encounters, Schindler's List.
I mean, my God.
How many melodies has he created that are still in our heads?
How?
How does he do?
I just can't even imagine how you'd write one.
It's amazing.
I couldn't write one original jingle for a commercial, let alone what that man is.
It's what he does.
Incredible.
Also, Jack Lemon and James Dean would have been celebrating birthdays tomorrow.
Oh, wow.
Two of the actors.
Two of the best.
Yeah.
Quick look.
At Sunday, birthdays, Michael B. Jordan is 38.
His abs are 20.
That man's awesome.
He's great.
He's a great actor.
Charlie Day is 49, one of my favorite comedic actors.
Charlie, I know it's always sunny.
He was in Dale in the horrible bosses and Benny in the Lego movies.
And because my son's favorite character, he is his favorite actor because he played Luigi
in the Mario movie.
I love him.
And he loves, I love Charlie Day.
I'm like, oh, well, you have no idea.
He sees one of my top 10 favorite comedic actors.
Joe Pesci is 82 on Sunday.
That is good.
Wow.
And my mom.
Oh, yeah, good one.
Good one.
And my mom's favorite singer, songwriter of all time, Carol King is 83.
Wow.
And the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame multiple times.
Absolutely.
Amazing singer, songwriter, one of the best.
To everybody celebrating birthdays and anniversaries out there, we wish you great ones.
Enjoy your day and keep getting them to us, everybody.
Keep on listening.
Because coming up, we're going to make you a star with our star of the day from our friends from callvers.
God, I love that song.
Lights, camera, action.
It is time to make somebody a star of the day with our friends from the Wisconsin Rapids callvers.
Melissa Seth and I are about to do is play a famous TV theme song.
You call up on the Civic Media app or just by dialing 715-424-2600.
And you will get in touch with us and you will, of course, give us your answer, your guests.
And if you win, boom, just like that.
You in an adult meal, a kid's meal from our Wisconsin Rapids callvers.
A big shout out to them for that.
We greatly appreciate them by doing this and working with us.
We've been working with callvers for years.
We appreciate them doing this.
Excellent stuff.
And it's free callvers.
Free callvers.
Melissa, that's all I should have said.
Free callvers.
You do usually say that.
That's why I had to add it in here.
You guys free callvers, baby.
Melissa's got it.
Melissa's got it down.
Go ahead and get ready to call up everybody and let us know what TV.
So this is from...
Oh, come on now.
Whoa.
Come on, Peoples.
Man, I expected something right away.
Here we go.
All right.
Here we go now.
We're getting so many in here.
Okay, let's go ahead and see what we got.
Good morning.
What's your answer?
Would it be a little house on a prairie?
Yes, indeed.
Yes.
Nicely done.
Nicely done.
Nicely done.
Let's go ahead and get ready to call up everybody.
There we go.
All right.
There we go now.
We're getting so many in here.
Okay, let's go ahead and see what we got.
Good morning.
What's your answer?
Nicely done.
Let's go ahead and make this official.
There we go.
Now it's official.
We got a new star of the day.
And who do we have on the phone with us?
Larry.
Larry, thank you so much for listening, Larry.
Yeah, congrats.
Larry, take a second with that one.
Larry, do you know that one, Larry?
Right off the bat.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Very iconic theme song, really.
Really is.
And it's interesting to me, too, because it starts out so low and slow.
But you know it even with that.
Well, yeah, that's fantastic.
Larry, thank you so much.
What town are you calling us from, Larry?
Rapid.
All right.
Got ourselves a Rapids winner.
All right.
Larry, thank you so much for listening.
Playing along.
Hang on the line.
Gonna get a little information from you off here.
You're our newest star of the day.
Thank you, Larry.
We appreciate you.
Great job.
So just a quick look behind the curtain here.
Well, into the, you know, the topics we've covered on the show.
Certainly today would have been Laura Inglewild.
Right.
So that's certainly an over the good, the author of Little House on the Prairie.
Correct.
And earlier in the week, the three of us were talking about the possible remake of
A Little House on the Prairie.
And we all crushed that.
No, no, no, no.
A blight.
So I killed it.
He'll it right there.
Well, you can't make it better.
No, you really can't.
So I just thought that this would be a fun one to do.
And I know we've done this one before.
But we're not trying to sell people.
We're not trying to get you free culverts.
Plus, there's all the molasses in the show that just, you know, need to be promoted
and glorified because they're amazing.
Molasses.
We understand.
Or molasses.
Yeah, molasses.
We understand molasses.
Gilbert, that's just so many molasses.
It's a wonderful.
It is.
It is.
So the tickles are pink.
My goodness.
Of course, Little House on the Prairie ran September 11th from 1974 to May 10th, 1982.
Had a really nice run.
It's a nice long run.
And remains in everybody's hearts.
We're going to talk to Larry.
And to talk with him, I'm going to get him my agent's phone number and hook him up with that
because Wendy's amazing.
A shout out to her.
And we will go ahead and get our newest star of the day.
I'll take care of it.
But be listening every Friday for a new opportunity to win some free culverts with our friends
and Wisconsin rabbits culverts.
You get on over there.
Get some culverts in your life this weekend.
Everybody.
Perfect Super Bowl food.
Yes.
Perfect Super Bowl food.
And enjoy.
And be listening again next Friday for another edition of Star of the Day.
Welcome back everybody.
Morning show at WFHR.
It is mandatory.
I need Stevie Wonder before 9 am.
I need it.
It's not a bad prescription, Mary.
We appreciate all you guys hanging out with us on a Friday here.
Hope you're having a good start to your Friday.
Big shout out to Larry, our newest star of the day.
Congrats Larry.
Big thank you to him.
And I thank you to all of you that have been texting us with this.
The love on the air text.
Yes.
I don't know about your guys' phones and minds when blowing up.
Yeah.
Like a lot of getting a lot of answers in there.
Which, as a side note, is a bit of a distraction sometimes.
When I focused it on, are we on the air?
Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
No, we're okay.
We're okay.
We're okay.
It's a good distraction.
It is.
Great distraction.
Yeah.
We will get that keyword to you one more time before the end of the hour.
I could give it to you right now.
But now I'm going to make you wait until the end of the segment.
That's a radio 101, Melissa.
I got to.
I don't want to.
I have to.
You got it.
You got it.
You got to tease a man.
You got to keep it there.
Keep it on the air.
You know.
We got a lot of great things lined up for you in the 9 o'clock hour.
Not only we can even spend our payment news.
We got a little more Super Bowl talk to do as well.
And we're going to get into our schedule.
We got a great schedule lined up for you this weekend, including a jam pack Sunday.
I'm so excited about our Sunday lineup.
We got a lot of great things.
Right up against the Super Bowl.
We're taking them on.
We are giving you counter-programming like no other.
Yes.
Like no other.
And now let's talk about and promote the Super Bowl.
And not really though.
Not really though.
Okay.
Because I think that the funny thing to me that we don't really talk about, but we all kind of get,
is it well, you're going to have some people that like the Super Bowl, some that don't.
You've got a lot of households that are mixed.
Some people are going to get into it, some that aren't.
Right.
Almost unifiably, everybody is interested in the commercials.
You have plenty of people.
Fascinating.
Like Melissa, who's in the Super Bowl?
Do you care all that?
We've heard Melissa's answers in this one.
Yeah.
Pretty string.
I think I know.
Chiefs and Eagles.
Yeah, there you go.
See?
You got that done.
Lucky guests.
Nicely done.
But with the commercials, do you find yourself a little interesting in those?
Melissa.
No.
Okay.
So in improv, they ask you to always say yes.
Always say yes.
That's what you know.
But I didn't know this was improv.
You were asking me.
I didn't know.
No, and I wanted to say no.
Yes and.
I did it.
I did that just as a joke.
I really did a actual genuine answer, Melissa.
I really did.
I was just teasing.
I really did.
Oh, that was good.
That was good.
That was good.
I'm good.
I'm good.
No, I'm good.
I'm good.
I'm good.
No, I really.
I'm good.
I'm good.
I'm good.
I'm good.
I'm good.
But I'm good.
No, I'm good.
I'm good.
No.
No.
No.
I'm good.
She's a maverick.
She's not a control.
They really did get me.
They really did.
But super bull commercials are pretty well for the majority of people are kind of interested in
them.
So we're going to go over that right now and some of these super bull commercials that
are going to be going on this weekend.
It is noteworthy that Super Bull adds this year sold for a record $8 million.
You're a waste of money.
Wow.
Wow.
And everything I've been saying for the last couple of weeks about award shows and how much
the good PR they could have built and the great funds they could have raised for any number
of different causes is same thing with this.
Hey, take that $8 million.
That you are going to spend on a 30 second ad, which I'm guessing what it is, right?
Take that $8 million.
Give it to the fire aid thing that's going on right now and say, hey, instead of doing
a 30 second Super Bull commercial, we gave $8 million to the recovery of fires in Southern
California.
You can't tell me that wouldn't be just as good PR as doing a ad during the commercials.
Are we thinking that'd be better?
And that only would it be better.
I think people will, they'll probably remember it as long as they'll remember these ads.
I'm telling you, these ads are some of the most biggest waste of money every year.
We talk about it for Monday, maybe Tuesday.
Tell me the last Super Bull ad you really remember.
Like you really remember, you really, like, and I've done this.
I've tested people on this one and the same thing happens almost every single time.
They remember mixes, like, hey, there was that one year with this and this, like, actually
that was two separate commercials from two different companies that actually, nobody
remembers these.
Nobody remembers these.
Last year, James, I actually went and watched some of them, you know, that were released
before the Super Bull so that we could talk about them on air and I could, like, sound
like I was informed and, like, I cared and everything.
And I don't remember any of them.
Yeah, not a one.
Why waste the brain power?
Let's take a call real quick.
Good morning.
You're on the show.
All right.
I got to chime in on this.
Yes.
Come in.
Yes.
The commercials are, yeah, the money's ridiculous.
Yeah.
I get that 100 percent.
But the commercials are awesome and you don't have any skin in the game.
That's why you watch for commercials.
Oh, I think I'm miswording this.
I enjoy the commercials.
I'm all glued to them and I watch them and I think they are entertaining.
I just also think that they're a waste and that you could be this year in particular.
It could be much better served.
If your job is, okay, I am Budweiser and I want to sell more beer.
How can I do that?
I'm going to come up with a Clyde'sdale commercial, okay?
Great.
You've done that before and everything or, you know, what, $8 million, I'm going to give
it right to fire it.
I'm going to give it to help childcare in the US.
I'm going to give it to this cause of that cause.
That would more than double if not triple your sales or your PR or whatever your, whatever
your parameter is or what you're looking for.
I'm just looking at this as a marketing, from marketing perspective and a sales perspective.
On a human level, that's a whole different conversation.
Right.
Right.
And they are entertaining.
Yeah.
I don't disagree with you for a second, man.
And especially to your point about, if you don't care about the game, I actually know for
effect that there's at least two people, three people that I know that are strictly, they
could care.
They're taking their, their, their bathroom breaks while the game's going on.
They're waiting for commercials.
That's the big game for them is the commercials.
That's what the bingo cards are for, right?
Well, one of these people has like been dodging the commercials, like the previews of them,
like Melissa was talking about, like they're a spoiler to a TV show or a movie.
Like it, like it's WAM.
Yeah.
You're so, you're, you're 100% right about this, Cap, I completely agree with you.
I just, I just come from this because I am me.
I can't help it.
I come from, from this serious angle and everything, but I'll shut up.
Is there any you're looking forward to in particular, Kevin?
I mean, I always went at what's on my bingo card as well.
I'm hoping that I can, you know, I can watch, but where you could take this on another,
I mean, I'm kind of digging in on my marketing sign a little bit is, yeah, they can pay
the $8 million for their commercial, but like Budweiser or some of these others that,
you know, that people consume Doritos portions through the month, for the rest of the month
of February, portions of our proceeds are, are, are our monies will go towards the hurricane
relief, flood relief, or the fire relief, you can try to do something like that.
You know, I don't mean to not say, I mean, like you said, it's, it's, you're, you're,
you're taking the series side of it a little bit, but I guess I would, you know, you're
not going to get them not to put their ads in because look at them on a people that
watch the Super Bowl, they're going to still put their ads on there and, well, and, and
you're one, you know, you always ask, you say you ask about what's one, do you remember?
I, the one I, that I still laugh at when they do do run it once in a while now is a Doritos
commercial with the kid in the tight, then he made up that time machine.
Yeah, then I love that one.
I do love that one.
And so I mean, I do remember some of them, but yeah, you'd be cooler talk for about three
or four days and now I'll be about it.
All good points, man.
And another good point, I think that I hadn't really, because it's me and I never think
about this stuff until much later, we also all deserve a break.
Like the point of this morning show is to give people a break, to give people a, you
know, a one show out there at least that isn't going to necessarily be touching on the
heaviest topics in the world and everything because we all know it's a heavy time.
It's always going to be, there's not really many times in life where, wow, nothing's
going on right now.
The world's pretty cool.
Like, so human beings are entitled and do deserve a break away from the world, the real
world.
I think it's essential actually.
Yeah.
We've got plenty of studies that prove that it's a home-wise and everything.
And if the Super Bowl for four hours is that for you, more power to do?
Take it.
Yeah, yeah.
That needs to be said too.
And, you know, maybe I don't have to be so serious all the time.
I want to see this study of whether or not it works, having an ad during the Super
Bowl actually increases sales or whatever it is, you know, whatever you're trying to
advertise.
If it actually does anything, I'd be curious to see that.
Kevin, appreciate you safe travels out there.
All right, you guys.
You have a great weekend and, uh, you too.
Gold Budbler.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Go Clydesdale.
Okay.
Okay.
Now, I just remembered one that I liked.
I loved, in fact, I liked it more than the game, the Bud Bowl.
Yeah.
I always thought that was more fun than the actual game.
I loved those Bud Bowl commercials.
Yeah.
Those are fun.
So Billy, Crystal and Meg Ryan are getting back together for a Harry Met salary union
for Helmann's mayonnaise.
Cindy Sweeney is going to be in that one.
Are we talking about the commercials now?
Yes.
Okay.
Yes.
Put on your commercials hat.
Right.
That one looks a little interesting.
Angel Soft Toilet papers spent all their money on an ad that they actually want you to
skip.
They haven't released it yet, but it's supposed to air close to halftime.
It's an animated clip with an angel in a football helmet who tells you this, it's perfect
time to take a bathroom break.
It just gives you need to be reminded, yeah.
Not bad.
Not bad.
That's not bad.
Actually, I kind of like that one.
Yeah.
Uber Eats is pulling out all the stops this year with Matthew McConaughey and features
guest appearances from Kevin Bacon, Martha Stewart, Charlie XCX, a bunch of people.
In this one, McConaughey plays Mike Dicka and it is everything I want in this world
now.
All I want in this world is a biopic made of the 85 bears that make McConaughey is
Mike Dicka.
Well, first of all, we need that anyway because that was a very dramatic team, lots of dramas
surrounded that team.
I think it would be great.
Well, I don't know how it hasn't been made.
I know.
Stella Artros is Tees the David Beckham ad with Menaflack and Matt Damon.
Frank's Red Hot has a commercial appearance, Hilton.
So all of those are making the rounds.
Good to see Matt Damon working again.
Apparently, he only works once one day a year now and it's just for a dumb Super Bowl
ad.
Thanks, Matt Damon.
Boy, no one reversed what I thought of them quicker than you did.
Oh, geez.
Snap.
Well, it is.
It is.
I'm very irritated.
Very irritated about that.
Okay.
We got a pause because the our wonderful audience is used to Melissa or I like getting
out something.
We have our moments and everything, but I don't believe we've ever had Seth go like
never seen this side of Seth.
No, very often.
I try not to do it a lot.
You know, I'm a diplomat.
I try to be diplomatic about stuff, but sometimes I'm very PC about it too.
Sometimes I just got a, yeah, I don't like to do this, but I'm calling this one.
This is one of our best segments.
This has been great.
This has been awesome.
From beginning to end.
Great job, you guys.
People who are obviously phonies, those are the probably people that you're taking me the
most.
Yeah.
They don't even care about it anymore.
They're like, yeah, I'm phony.
Yeah.
Just phony that info.
Yep.
Coors Light decided to forego celebrities in favor of sloths and I kind of dig it.
I kind of like it.
Hagen Doss.
Don't have to pay them.
No.
No, you don't.
Hagen Doss is a faster, furious ad with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and ludicrous.
Okay.
New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft produced a powerful ad through at his foundation
of combat anti-semitism with a Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady in it.
I have to give him a tip of the hat for that.
That's interesting.
Yeah.
Very thankful for that one.
And I never thought I might say that about Robert Kraft, but I am.
Especially since the NFL caved about something with the end zones and the message they were
going to put in there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's good.
Yeah.
The rise of anti-semitism has infected a lot of our top 1%.
And that's something to keep an eye on going forward.
I would like to thank you.
It's kind of scary, yeah.
Because a quick reminder, everybody, once they get to us, they're coming for everybody
else.
If that's what it takes to get you to pay attention.
Chris Jenner and Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt are all getting together for a meta-scommercial
for AI glasses that I'm guessing is about Chris's?
I'm guessing.
I don't know.
I'm thinking to guess that one, but there is a handful of them out there and I do think
you had a good point there, Seth, about it in Kevin did too, about ads that we do remember.
There are some that are admirable, but we had to think about it.
That's the thing is that like, oh, it reminded me of something later.
It's not right at the tip of your tongue.
Well, I think that this is another good point to wrap up on because we need more of this
where we can chew gum a walk at the same time where we can have two thoughts that are
different in our head but are both correct.
Yeah.
I think what we were saying as a strong point as well as what Kevin was talking about
there, too, and the idea of people just having a good moment to take a break from the
world and everything.
You got to come back to it, but having a break isn't a bad thing.
We're going to take one right now.
All right.
