But as you have probably heard through the news already today, last night the FFA confirmed
that an American Airlines regional jet collided mid-air with the US Army Black Hawk helicopter
near Reagan, Washington National Airport just side outside of Washington, D.C. happened
about 8.50 p.m. last night.
Here's what we know so far.
Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac River, naturally a search and rescue operation launched
immediately.
Details are still coming in fatalities.
Some have been confirmed as of this morning, this article was about 20 minutes ago.
It does look like US figure skaters, family members, and coaches among those aboard the
plane that crashed into Washington, D.C.
The American Eagle flight had departed a couple hours earlier from which it took Kansas.
It was making its approach to a runway at the time of the collision.
Officials said these split in, they split in two, it had 60 passengers and four crew members
aboard.
The US Army Black Hawk helicopter had a crew of three according to the US defense official.
Late last night, a senior FBI official said that there was no indication of any criminal
or terrorism in the crash.
It should be noted as well.
For those who don't know, Reagan was the busiest runway in America with over 800 landings
and take-offs a day.
Right.
No, this guy's above D.C. are always crazy busiest.
Someone who used to live there, I can't emphasize that enough.
We'll be following this story and certainly be thinking and sending our hearts that direction.
There is no segue and there shouldn't be.
We are going to continue to do what we do around here and try to give you a positive start
to your day and continue moving while covering that story.

Nowadays, they're teasing commercials.
It's not enough to tease trailers anymore.

Doing all of this and then twigs with like 50 bucks, but it's just outsmarts you completely.

They're offering you two gold bars if you don't watch the commercials.

As we all know, we're going to see these commercials for the next six months.

Our Super Bowl ads like American Idol winners.
We don't remember.

Tell me the last great Super Bowl ad you remember.

And we'll be talking about them next week, we're building up the Super Bowl and all
of this.
But I genuinely, I'm not trying to be, you know, this isn't a bit off the top of my
head.
I pressed myself.
I did not look anything up.
I wanted to be able to do this with you guys.
I got nothing.
I, I don't remember what ads were Super Bowl ads and which ones weren't and isn't that
why they spend so much more money.
Yeah.
Maybe that's what it is.
It's a, it's a vicious cycle.
I do remember one and it was from a really long time ago, but there's a specific reason
why I remember it.
So it was, it must have been either like the early 2000s, I think, or the late 90s.
It was a Ford commercial.
It was like a minute long.
It was super long and it had like Charlotte Church, remember the younger at the time.
She was singing this thing and they showed all this, you know, different, I mean, it was
just full of everything.
This ad had everything in it.
The reason I remember it is because I was in college at the time and I was in a sociology
class and I remember after the Super Bowl and they talked about that commercial.
He said, I think you could write a doctoral dissertation on this ad alone, just looking
at all the images and finding out, you know, why they put them in there and finding what
this whole ad was about because it wasn't, it didn't make you think of cars.
That was the weird thing about it.
It was a car commercial.
Even though it was a car commercial.
So it was, that's why I remember it is because our professor talked about it the next
week after the thing, but that's the only reason I remember it.
Was Charlotte Church even able to drive at that time?
Because I don't think she had her start really young.
She was like 14 or 15 years old, yeah.
That's funny.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
I, I, I, I can remember companies that like bought it because they, they tried to have
a, a Super Bowl ad and then blew up in their face, but that's, that's in the Clyde
Stales.
I do remember the Clyde Stales.
I'm, but in my horse guy, I like horses, so I mean, that just stays in my brain just
because I like Clyde Stales.
I specifically like Clyde Stales, yeah.

I had a database of, of new companies that, or, you know, whatever that had Super Bowl
ads that went on a business later.

Or had something really bad.
There's a couple of famous ones.

There's a couple of big ones.
But remember the, the pets.com or whatever it was, like around 2000, yeah.

Man, they had the world in front of them with that pet, that sock puppet or whatever.
Everything.

A new study found that they'll eat more vegetables if they think
it gives them superpowers.

That's not new.

Researchers in Germany spent 20 minutes reading kids fairy tales that
involve magical fruits and veggies.
And the hero was either healed or saved by eating them.
After the story was done, they offered the kids a choice of four different
snacks.
Fruit, vegetables, cake, or cookies.
No pie, Seth.
There's the kitchen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We will work on that.
It turned out fruit in it.
It turned out it made them more likely to choose the healthier options.
Ooh.
Right after they heard the story, it had a lasting effect.
80% of kids were still eating more fruits and veggies weeks later.
Wow.
Oh my goodness.

My publicist contacted scientists in Germany.
Yeah.
Like this is not new.
That's why all of our grandparents ate so much canned spinach.
It's disgusting.
But they developed a taste for it after watching Popeye come on.

This is one of those things where, you know, we figure something.
It's like, well, that would make sense.
And now they've just kind of confirmed what we would seem pretty obvious.
But it's kind of cool that they've got something to back it up.
You know, scientists say that if you, you know, that kind of thing.
Right.
Now Popeye's science has been supported.

That's still weird.
That's kind of weird.

That has always encouraged well-done children, well-done parents.
As Laura notes, this isn't necessarily new.
This is kind of a play on, if not the same thing that a lot of do.

But a quick thing about this, if anybody else isn't already realizing this, works on us too.
Oh, yeah.
Works on us as adults.
Not just veggies or vegetables or eating healthier.
But think about the 80s craze of workouts.
And seeing Suzanne Struthers or Suzanne Summarine fond, Richard Simmons and some of these things.
And what that started, and every single 90s diet there was.
There was just a run there of 80,000 diets and different things.
Yeah.
We're all guilty of this.
We're all able to play on all of us.
It's the You Are What You Eat campaign.
Yeah, there you go.

That's a good one.
The positive to this, I think, is too good not to try or not to do if you're not already doing it.
Well, and to be fair, my mom totally was doing this when I was a kid too.
It was very much, well, eat your vegetables.
You'll grow up big and strong.
And I remember late at night when I was praying before bed, it was, please help me be big and strong.
And now I have a lot more in common with a draft horse than those built for speed.
Which it could be its own superpower.
Yeah.
I'm not upset at being stronger than I am.

You know, worked out for powerlifting.

Benefitted me greatly.
I love that.
Oh my gosh.
You know, it's, you know, the fantastic four all had different superpowers.
You know, there's a reason for that.
You know, to have our own superpowers.
If we all have the same one, how boring would that be?

I don't know if any of the fantastic four were necessarily fantastic.
I feel like they all had like, like, like, okay, this is super power.
If it's also attached to this one, but they didn't have that.

I can stretch.

They kind of lead into that thing because, you know, it's every time with Reed Richards.
It was, it was more about his smart.

But if I, I think of ones that I wouldn't want, like waking up one morning and I can stretch all over the, I don't want that.
I don't want that power.
Think about the control you'd have to, to muster, to not like be flying everywhere.

I am six one with the reach of a condor.
I have spent my whole life getting things on shelves for people.
How is that going to, how much worse is that going to get if I could reach the moon?
If I could, like, stretch so far.
Like, I'm good.

I don't mind people asking.
You see me in a supermarket.

I know a problem.

You definitely need another one of those.

And it should be noted too, the jobs that they create with those positions.

I've known a couple of people over the years that have done that work.

Businesses they put into their community, put into the area.
We want to welcome them to the area.

I feel like a couple of natural transitions here talking about pet smart.
We're going to be having our Humane Society joining us at the top of the yard
when they're pet of the week looking forward to hanging out with Denise for a little bit.
And I got a great segue in between a dog lost in Oklahoma reunited with its owner after eight years.
Oh, I love these stories.
It should be noted that this dog will not stop talking about what it's been up to the last eight years.
You know, that's what happens with the lost pets.
He just got so much to share afterwards, right?
So many stories to catch up on.
It's so many.
And squirrel.
And Arizona man whose dog ran off during a stop in Oklahoma City was reunited with his canine companion eight years later.
Paul said that he was in the midst of a move from Massachusetts to Arizona eight years ago
when he made a pit stop in Oklahoma City and took his five year old miniature pincher Damien for a walk.
Okay.
I don't know why, but it's so fitting the dog's Davis Damien.
Oh, it absolutely is.
Damien.
He said he was trying to keep Damien from running into a road when the canine ran off.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
Um, Gilbert, uh, Paul said that he spent a week in Oklahoma City trying to locate Damien too.
Oh, so he like a whole week there won't move.
Just trying to find this dog.
I mean, I would a two.
Oh, yeah.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Amazing.
Hard in a heartbeat.
But I still think it's not worth it.
It is.
Absolutely.
Oh, goodness.
It wasn't until eight years later that he received a text message from Oklahoma resident Rich Chambers saying I found your dog.
Oh, my gosh.
It's got to be the most one of the most amazing text messages you'll ever get.
I can't even imagine.
And I would imagine after eight years, not only like look more power to him if he held hope.
But if he didn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't blame him.
Oh, no, exactly.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
To the point of like, found my dog.
Like it takes him a second.
Right.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
You know, like, take some a second or something like that.
Yeah, especially a small dog, like a mint pin.
Like, that's a, that's a small dog.
Uh, Chambers had found Damien wandering loose and taken into a veterinarian where a microchip scan revealed his name at owner's contact information.
Uh-huh.
Let us give it up to the microchipping to the goal.
Tell him, yeah, that is so important these days.
You know, main societies around the country are doing art.
So they've led the charge on this.
A big credit and thank you to them.
But there is also businesses like PetSmart and other places like that have done similar things as well and they help with those services.
Damien was found about 30 miles from where he originally went missing.
That's kind of interesting too.
Yeah.
Because a lot of the times these dogs, you find them like two states over something like that.
Make their way somehow to like these different areas.
Yeah.
I'll remind you how small he is.
That's as far as he could get.
That's good point.
Good point.
It's a fair point.
Hey, he had eight years.
He could have gotten farther.
He was also getting old, okay?
He got those little legs.
Little legs.
Damien was found, yeah, about 30 miles from this area.
The dog who were about for the past eight years are unknown.
But Chambers said he appeared underweight and had overgrown nails.
So that's pretty unsuitably been a while.
Yeah.
And in all honesty, not that I'm making light of those things.
That's, I mean, after eight years and probably no care at all.
I'm curious.
I'm wondering if there wasn't like an eight years a long time.
I wonder if there wasn't someone who did take care of him in the interim for a little while.
And then something he ran away again or something like that.
It almost sounds like that's what happened.
I mean, who knows?
Like you said, the animals can't talk.
They could have even been just someone nearby putting food out for him at night.
It could have been somewhat simple is that.
Yeah.
We talk a lot about inventions and how grateful we are for them or how like ones that fade away or not.
I don't know if we talk about inventions that I'm not sure if we should have did that or or or or or that that you know has it really.
We liked it at first and then it went away.
The pen rock if you will.
Like something like that.
I still have my thank you very much.
And it's doing very well.
Yes, it is.
Rocky is spectacular.

Oh, come on.
I was 12.

That's great.
I'll take you to step back on that Rocky.
The pet rock is great.
I got to say that I read these stories and immediately one of the first things I think of obviously with all the context we've given outside of that is the idea of animals being able to talk and wanting to interview this dog.
So tell me, Damien, the last eight years, what was it like?
You know, and I want to ask it everything.
But I feel like that invention gets old quick.
I feel like for every day being in every interesting story, there's a dog.
There's just dogs just you know.
So I saw a bunch.
There's a bunch of squirrels outside.
There's a ton of squirrels.
Yes, I know, buddy.
I know there's that's where they live.
No, you don't understand.
Okay.
They are forming.
They are doing something out there.
I don't know what it is.
Because every dog thinks squirrels are up to something.
And I have a feeling these squirrels are just trying to live.
I don't know if they really are not really messing with the dog.
But I feel like every dog is a conspiracy dog.
They're all worried about what's going on out there.
That would be the question.
How are dog memories working?
How's their long-term memory?
How's their short-term memory?
Great question.
What kind of answers could you even expect?
You know, I have to say that the downside to that would be the detailed description of them cleaning themselves.
Don't need that.
So many butt sniff stories.
You are not going to believe the booty I smelled today.
No, I don't need it.
I don't need that story, man.
The least they've been.
I don't need that.
I love the idea that dogs call it booty.
That's Damien would have.
I feel it in my bones.
And I hope this is a really fun story.
Don't let it be lost to anybody either.
This microchipping.
And how important that is.
It's so important.
It never happens without that.
It's so important to microchip your pets.
That's why shelters do it.
We're very thankful to all of our shelters.
Especially our local ones.
And I'm not just saying that because I hopefully Denise can hear me out there.
