Terry and I are going to get into the United Way talk in just a moment.

But a couple of station notes real quick.

Want to get some thank yous out there.

First off, a huge thank you to everybody.

Yesterday, we did something really quickly.

And I've been working on an interview the past month or so with HipRop.

The great guys, Colomockery, Asad Maki.

They were going, we were hopefully going to be able to get together for an interview.

And then for a couple of weeks, things just went dark.

So I assumed that the interview wasn't going to happen and kind of moved on.

And then their publicists reached out and we were able to get them on.

But we had a very small window to do.

Can we do this in five minutes?

Because we talked to them in between.

They were just wrapping up an interview.

And then I only had a lesson an hour with them because they had a TV interview right away after.

And I didn't want them to have to rush to it or anything.

So I wanted to get them out on a good time.

And we all worked together the three of us on this along with their publicist and a shout out to her.

And we're able to get this interview done.

Then it became me, Seth and I getting the production done of this.

And by that I mean really Seth.

And Seth is off this week, by the way.

But he agreed with me that this was too big.

It was too important not to get it on the air.

We wanted to get it on the air before their show this Saturday,

which we encourage you to get theater tickets at the grandtheatre.com.

And we were able to pull this off.

We had a little bit of trouble with Collins and Collins end of things.

There was some audio that was a little hard to hear.

But I feel like that only added to the interview.

And when I do these things, it's me alone in this studio with them on the phone.

And I have no idea.

And you get no cues.

You know what I mean? Like the phone?

Yes, a pause.

But it's different than sitting across from each other.

So your feedback out there is vital.

It's very important to me.

It means a lot to me.

Good, bad. I took it all as data.

I take it all the same.

And nothing but a wonderful, like I'm humbled right now by the way that the reaction that we got from this interview.

Like we normally have things all in order and have a good plan.

It's, yeah. So I mean, it's cool.

It's just kind of played into what we were talking about because the three of us are also improv artists.

And we just improv.

But you have, in my opinion, the greatest living in improv artists there is in Colin Mockery.

I told Colin, it depends on which whos line episode I'm watching, whether it's him or Ryan Styles.

I lost some points for that and understand them.

Good thing you couldn't see his face.

Yeah.

Couldn't have asked for a better interview.

I generally think that's one of the best ones I'll ever do.

Terry, one other thing we are very thankful for.

Our United Way of Southwood and Ames counties.

I worked all night on that segway.

Wow, that was good.

I mean, kept you up, didn't it?

Well, I was up late.

And one of the things I actually came across when I was going over things.

I wanted to talk with you about one of our favorite things in the Dalai Parton Imagination Library.

Yeah.

Which is a part of Women's United and we'll be touching on that.

I imagine soon if not soon with power of the purse and some of those.

Yeah, coming up.

But I think the stronger programs that the net away is a part of.

And something that I found out about thanks to you and I've been doing for the last four or five years.

And proudly and very happily.

And I never really thought about this.

I imagine maybe you have in the years you've been doing this.

I was like, well, how many books have they given away in the time they've done this?

Yeah.

And I'm expecting a big number.

And I go into it expecting a big number.

And then I see the number and I'm blown away.

This was like one in the morning I saw this and I'm still blown away.

As of January of 2024, Dalai Parton's Imagination Library has gifted over 229 million books to children around the world.

So we locally.

So we are the sponsor, the sole sponsor of Imagination Library for Southwood.

And we expanded to Adams County over this last summer.

So all of our United Way service area is covered.

And so we actually are 25,000, 25,000, 25,000 book went out last May.

So that was a big milestone for us.

And for those who maybe aren't as familiar with the program.

This is a book gifting program for children from birth to age five.

The child.

Unfortunately, not the ant or uncle or grandparents.

A shutter because people get a little upset about that.

But the child has to reside in Southwood or Adams counties.

Because we just the capacity to pay for it if we were doing kids out of the area.

Yeah.

You can visit Dalai Parton's Imagination Library and put in a zip code.

So maybe you have a grandchild that lives in, I don't know, Green Bay.

You can go and put their zip code in.

And you can see if there's an organization that sponsors the program there.

And if not, maybe there's somebody who could hustle it up and get it coordinated.

But for us, for now, children who reside in Southwood or Adams County Qualify for the program.

Birth to age five, they can receive a book in the mail every month.

So really cool things about this.

Besides the obvious of literacy skills.

Kids get mail.

Kids don't get mail anymore.

They don't even know what mail is.

So they get an awesome book, has their name on it.

That's super cool.

And the other thing that I'm a literacy side that's really great is Dalai Parton

through the Dalai Wood Foundation.

Employees reading interventions.

Folks who really get this and understand developmental stages.

And maybe where a child should be at age two as it pertains to books.

And so these are all, again, it's a 60 book library, so they're all different.

It is free to all families.

But the book selection has done my interventionist.

And then included with the book, maybe in the front jacket, are some little tips.

So you've read the book with the child, but now maybe go back to page three.

Maybe it's an ocean scene.

Talk to your child about waves or talk to you.

It just gives kind of some little prompts to engage your child using that book

in different ways than the obvious of reading it.

So this program is just exponentially impactful.

And I would like to see a movement to get this as a statewide program.

But unfortunately, Wisconsin doesn't have really great coverage with the program yet

because you have to have a sponsoring organization.

I mean, there obviously is a cost, but it's very cost effective.

The cost is about $35 per child per year.

Think about that.

12 books for $35.

That's amazing.

It's unfathomable.

They look fine in a deal like that for $35.

Exactly.

Exactly.

And honestly, it's the sheer volume.

That number you gave that the whole program has done.

So if they're leveraging $40,000 of the same book for that month,

of course, they're getting a deal.

And they're getting to be part of Imagination Library.

So this is just a phenomenal program.

If you're listening and you have a child that resides in Southwood or Adams County,

you can get an enrollment form from us at United Way.

You know, by stopping by, you can call us.

There is a form on the website, but it's not a fillable form.

You would have to print it, fill it out, and then send it to us.

We could take information over the phone if you called us.

But it is just a really, really, really great program.

And it's one of the stronger parts and stronger arms of women's United.

Oh, great, great part of United Way.

And I thought it'd be a nice chance, especially with power of the person

and some of the events coming up and everything to remind everybody about women's United

Terry and how they can be a part of things.

Yeah, so Women United is an affinity group of our United Way.

It is a gathering of, you know, like Mind A Women who want to see change.

Our primary initiatives have been all around early grade learning and literacy.

So Imagination Library is a big part of that.

So what we have to do is, you know, I have a staff person that handles all the sign-ups.

But women United pays the bill, right?

Like, I mean, it can be, we want more kids.

We think that we could probably handle like 750 kids enrolled per month.

And each month some drop off because every month some kids in our community turn five, right?

And then that's the end. They get on to kindergarten book.

But we, you know, we have room, right?

So like, if there are kids in our service area that could benefit, I mean, every kid could benefit from this.

This is not a socioeconomic thing. This is not, I mean, this is just truly getting books to kids.

So women United is focused on this.

Our primary fundraiser is Power of the Purse.

This is a handbag, silent auction event.

But we have lots of other things.

Sometimes people go, oh, I'm not really interested in buying a purse.

But you can come there, you know, for the, just for the fun of the, it's kind of a happy hour event.

Five to seven thirty.

We have a pasta buffet at Bullseye Golf Club.

It's fabulous.

And so there are purses to bid on.

But there's also raffles and you can sponsor kids for Imagination Library.

It's just a really great gathering of, you know, it's fun to see friends and co-workers and family members come out and enjoy each other.

So that happens on March 11th.

I mean, it is a ticket event.

But you can visit our website, www.swac.org and purchase tickets.

So that's the signature event of Women United.

And then other ways that Women United supports literacy is we have a reading mentor program.

We're at four elementary schools in the Wisconsin Rapids.

And Wisconsin Rapids includes supported words.

And then we also support classroom grants.

So if there are teachers, primarily elementary, we would maybe entertain older.

But we typically stick with that, you know, until third grade, you're learning to read after third grade, you're reading to learn.

So third grade proficiency is really, you know, something that's my, our group is mindful of.

So elementary age teachers and reading interventionists and, you know, there could be others within the schools.

But we do classroom grants.

So sometimes you just don't have all the tools you need.

It might be for your lower level readers.

You know, you might have gotten, when the curriculum came out, you might have gotten all the reading materials that you need for your average or proficient reader.

And you maybe got like one set for your below proficiency and one set for above.

We know we have more than one of each of those, right?

And so what does that look like?

So we have helped purchase companion book sets for classrooms.

We've helped purchase.

I'm just thinking recently at our late queen of heaven, they just have book boxes that go home with kids on the weekends.

So just refreshing and replenishing, you know, kiddos are hard on, hard on books.

Oh, yeah.

But you know what?

Is there anything better to see than a well-loved book?

You know, I mean, like, you know, some dog-eared pages.

You know, you can tell that they've really loved it and enjoyed it.

So we do offer those classroom grants.

And it's a pretty simple, you know, it's maybe a handful of questions.

It's not like a huge application.

It's just a one-pager that you fill out.

And then it gets considered at our next Women United meeting.

So we do have dollars available for those needs as well.

And remember as well that you can even sponsor a child for a imagination library.

If that is the case, if maybe your little ones are bigger now,

and you would still like to be a part of this.

But we are diligently working on this.

So, you know, if you've been a follower of our Facebook or Instagram

and you wonder where the heck we went.

We're just having a few little struggles with Meta,

who is the parent company of Facebook and Instagram,

for impersonation, if you can believe that.

And I think we think because we can't actually get to a person.

But we think that it's around the fact that we had a brand refresh,

the entire United Way system.

And so, a lot of us were using all of a sudden,

using a whole bunch of assets that looked the same, right?

You know, new color scheme.

And so, we were suspended for impersonation.

And then we were shut down for a personation.

And you can only appeal their decision every 30 days.

So, we have been diligently appealing

and also trying to figure out how to connect with a human.

Yeah.

At Meta.

And it's really hard and it's really frustrating

because I don't want people to just think we just disappeared.

Well, I mean, consider, I'm a little surprised, actually,

because it seems like Mark Zuckerberg has no spine.

So, I mean, I would figure that he could just really bump

and over right away and help whoever,

and especially a non-profit you would think they would look out for.

It would be super nice.

You would think they would do that.

I mean, if it's not him, his assistant will be fine.

We don't care.

I don't care.

It could be the answer.

I don't care.

Somebody, somebody just push that button to put us back on line.

I question how good your system and your algorithm is

if you are hurting non-profits from doing what they're trying to do.

Yeah, it's really, I don't think that's controversial to say.

It's really a challenge.

You know, and it's really disappointing

and we've also been advised don't start a new one

because it just gets shut down.

You know, I mean, because we'd want to use the same name.

Of course, we'd want to use the name of our organization.

You've already collected a point if you follow us on that page

that's important.

That's part of how you get these events out there.

But you know, like the longevity of the music, too.

When I think of an artist like Neil Diamond, regardless of I like his music or I listen to it,

Warren Zeevan was born in the state in 1947, passed away in 03, Werewolves of London and so many other songs and hits.

One of the greatest performers in set in her life.

John Belushi, born in the state in 1949.

In my house, he is on the Mount Rushmore of people.

Just a big Belushi family, big Belushi household.

And one of the big, the Saturday life isn't what it is without Belushi.

Like you can talk about Chevy Chase, you can talk about the rest of the cast members.

All you want.

You needed a leader.

You needed somebody behind the scenes.

It was a leader that would really push things, push the envelope, push things to the next level.

That was willing to be samurai divorce lawyer or half of these other characters that he played.

Whatever was needed.

Whatever that needed and do anything to make the audience laugh.

I think it gets lost in the shuffle with his overdose and some other things about Belushi.

The stories to come out about him.

All of this gets lost in the shuffle of.

Belushi was a guy who wanted to build other people up.

He was also a guy who was willing to, hey, nobody else wants to do this scene, I'll do it.

I'll be the guy to make, if it's going to make the audience laugh, I will do whatever it takes.

Just a complete performer.

Like 30 is.

Yeah, very young.

And interestingly, where you saw Robin Williams and Adam Sandler later on in life go to,

he was starting to try to do some dramatic work.

And I don't know how good he would have been at it, but I think if you watched the neighbors and some other stuff of his,

he had a bit there.

He had some chops there that he might have been able to do a little bit of that.

Farly tried to do a little too, but never got the opportunity.

But another one who wanted to do some serious work.

And I genuinely think that Chris Farley could have done some.

I think he, I don't, again, I'm not saying Oscar Caliver doesn't have to be.

I just think he could have pulled it off very well.

For most of history, anonymous was a woman.

That's such a good line was so much depth to it.

One of the better dunkers I've ever seen.

Wayne Gretzky is 64, the great one.

When your nickname is the great one,

like you can't top that.

Charles Barkley tells a great story when Wayne Gretzky moved to Arizona.

He moved into the same neighborhood as Charles Barkley.

And the Barkley's invited the Gretzky's over for dinner.

They're having dinner together.

And Chuck's wife comes in the room and says,

do you want seconds?

Great one.

And Wayne was about to answer.

Chuck cuts him off.

He's like, no, this house is a great one.

Such a good life.

So good.

So yeah, I believe it.

Wonderful.

Oh, God, I love the way she says it.

And let's just back up.

No wife should have to call her husband the great one.

And I don't know the Barkley's.

And Connie's moved on to other things.

So we haven't had that connection as much.

But that's just on me as a PD.

Spirit Airlines is classic things up sort of.

They just announced that you can't wear see-through clothing anymore.

I didn't know that you could.

Do you want to see anybody in see-through clothing?

I don't.

Look, I view spirit airlines.

I think many of us out there have.

There is nobody take flying spirit airlines and I need to see that way.

Nobody in general.

Yeah.

Do I need to?

But especially with this.

Regardless of what airline.

Okay.

When you're going through security, do you ever see some of these people going through security?

You know, you have to take off your outside.

Like, if you haven't like a cardigan, you have to take that off.

You didn't know you were coming to the airport.

Right.

You didn't know that it doesn't cover your fat rolls.

Like, I just don't get it.

I just don't get it.

So this means no more sheer tops without a bra.

Leave the clear plastic pants at home.

I mean, just for who's doing this anyway.

Wait, are you getting clear plastic pants?

Yeah, that's an interesting question.

They updated their fine print this week to ban things that could be seen as,

quote, lewd, obscene or offensive in nature.

Then it includes see through clothing, tops that don't offer adequate coverage, et cetera, et cetera.

They do all this.

And if anybody wants to go ahead and Google a spirit airline plane,

just go ahead and do that.

Throw it into your search engine spirit airline plane.

I'm doing that right now.

And I'm going to show Terry because on spirit airlines,

they have on their airlines, and most of them bear fair.

It says on many of the, like on the side, it says bear fair,

which, I mean, come on.

They're done.

They've got to change that then.

They can't have that.

They can't have the word bear on there and not being allowed.

I mean, it's really on them.

But let's just go back to why?

Why is anyone supermodel or otherwise?

Why is anyone wearing see through clothing?

I don't believe that, and this is not my wheelhouse,

but I don't believe the churches have this rule because they don't need to.

It's just a given.

It's implied.

Yeah, you don't do it.

I would think that flying is a very similar thing.

I mean, it's bad enough.

You got to go shopping and watch people do it in their pajamas.

Yeah.

I don't know, man.

That I write.

That I write on anybody.

I just, I can't believe they have to say that.

And can I be real about this, too?

I don't know that spirit airlines can afford to be picky about this.

I'm not sure they can do that.

Well, okay, but you've got somebody.
